Trust me you are not the only one! Today is a case in point. I have a Breast Cancer afternoon tea this arvo to go to that a good friend of mines family has organised as breast cancer is very prevalent in their family.

NORMALLY I would have no problem going but this weekend is the first weekend in around 2 months that DH isnt working, not playing soccer, not going to watch AFL game or going away for work so I was really really really looking forward to having a free, hanging at home weekend. The afternnon tea is around 50 mins away so it really means the whole afternoon is a write off, and I know I shouldnt think like that. But I just wanna stay at home.

To make it worse my girlfriend in the last couple of months has been to a quiz nite that was for DH's soccer club and been to our house a couple of times to visit (her kids are older so she says it's easier for her to visit me then vice versa which is so sweet) so I really cant not go.

So after all that in answer to your original question, you are not the only one who feels obligated to attend functions.
