Does anybody even do them, or am I just supposed to wait for the wedding to give the happy couple a present?
Two very wonderful, long-time friends of mine got engaged a few minutes into the new year, and I'm excited as heck for them. The one who got down on bended knee is actually my first boyfriend, who I've remained pretty close to since we were 14, and his lady love's family have been friends of my family since we were in primary school.
I want to give them a little something to congratulate them on this exciting new chapter in their lives, but I'm sooo stuck for ideas. If it helps any, they share a house with a couple of other friends (ahh, to be young and broke and have to share the rent lol), they like doof-doof music and they both (especially the bloke) have pretty quirky senses of humour. Help me!! I don't know if they're having a party to announce and celebrate their engagement, so I was just planning on getting them a small gift to give them personally, kwim? Any tips or inspiration would be much appreciated! I've never done this before (lol seriously, none of my close mates are married, I've only ever gone to one wedding before and that was a childhood friend I hadn't seen in years so I had no idea what to get her and her beloved either :/)!
Kettle
Casserole dish
Towels (bath and tea)
Some money
Think that was it. I was living in a shared house at the time too so kept them at Mum's house for a couple of years until we were in our own flat the year before we married. Still have the dishes and towels, but the kettle gave up the ghost after 6 years of constant use and was replaced (after a few tears) this year. More than 6 years... mum borrowed it for 6 months too!
Trying to remember what I got was such a long time ago now the first time round - we didn't have a party but still close friends/family bought us something which I thought was nice.
Casserole/corningware/baking dish/platter/salad bowl type things which always come in so handy and I still use almost ten years later.
A couple of nice photoframes.
Dinner set
Wine glasses
Towels
If they are share housing, anything they get they will love and appreciate when they move out and set up on their own.
