    Angry Wedding Dress Nightmares

    Share your stories...

I picked up my dress on Tuesday which i was extremely excited about as it was extremely late arriving (or so the shop tells me anyway...see my boo hoo threads for my details). When i picked it up i couldn't see any visable faults.
I took the dress today to buy lingere and to arrange for alterations to be done - take the hem up etc.
The dressmaker (Who is AMAZING) found sooooo many faults with the dress. The seams don't match between the lining and the top layer of material, the seams don't match on the back where the join is, the zipper is too short for the amount of lining and therefore the lining is pulling too much and there is a section where the seam is coming undone and I've only worn the dress long enough to try on lingere with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The shop i brought it at has been so unhelpful saying that I brought the dress knowing the condition it was in. I wasn't shown faults in the dress, nor are they visable to someone who has no idea what they are looking at in relation to dress making! To have the alterations done it is going to cost me at least another $100!!!!!
It may seem to some to be too much effort but i LOVE the basic look of the dress...i feel in love with it when I saw it and being my wedding dress I want it looking perfect!

I have an AWESOME headache (stress related) and just can't wait for the day to come.

(no need to reply if you don't want to....just venting a little)

That is so wrong I assume you didn't buy a discounted dress? If not, before your dressmaker fixes the problems, I would ask her to take photos. Then you can send them to the store, and ask for a discount, based on the dresses condition. If you're not happy with the stores response, let them know you will be contacting Consumer Protection, and showing them the photos.

It may seem a lot of effort this close to your wedding, but you shouldn't be out of pocket for faults that weren't caused by you, KWIM? GL hun

something simular happened to me. I wish i had a dress maker in the first place, althought it is very stressful everyone says you just look so beautiful on the day.

I hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy hubby taking the dress off at the end of it lol

With the faults, bear in mind that it is a one show only outfit.
When you put it on, does it look awesome? Really, that's the main thing. Yeah, it sucks that the shop have been so useless, but stressing about that will not aid your cause, which is to look stunning and be super-excited.
The lining on my dress didn't line up with the zipper (couldn't take it back to the shop though, cos made it myself!) but you couldn't tell from the outside, so I didn't stress about it.

So, for now, fix up anything that is visible from the outside, or will affect function (like seams coming apart, but do remember, you're unlikely to be running marathons or climbing trees in it) Later, give the shop some shocking reviews, write them a letter, use your anger to let them know that it wasn't good enough.

But in the mean time, just focus on your special day and looking fabulous. It's more important than any shop.

Having my wedding only 4 days away (well 3 since it's after midnight) I know exactly how you feel! You want it to be perfect and you feel ripped off.

My only advice is this -

You didn't see the faults. The only person to see them was a professional dressmaker who took a close look at the dress. Do you have any professional dressmakers as guests at the wedding? I think what I'm trying to say is that no-one will be looking at your dress so close as to find faults that you the bride did not notice when looking for the dress of her dreams.

Your guests, and hubby to be, will think you look absolutely stunning and will be too caught up in the celebrations and excitement to put your dress under a microscope and point out an flaws.

Please try not to let it get to you, as hard as that may be, it's not worth the added stress to an already stressful time in your life.
