I'm looking around for someone who can do a trial makeup on my 2 bridesmaids and myself in rehearsal for my wedding day. If we are happy with it, we will book them in for the wedding day to do it.
How much should we expect to pay for makeup? And has anyone had any experience with "mobile" makeup companies and how much they charge for coming to your home to do your makeup? I just think it would be easier to get them to my home on the day... that way we only need to go out for our hair....
I reckon each of our makeup should not cost more than $30 each? Is that about right? includes their time and makeup...
trial makeup should cost $10 each you reckon? I'm clueless, just guessing really
Anyone?
$10 is pretty cheap for a trial, that's good... we are going to get that done about 2mths before the wedding day.
and then $45 p/person you think? I suppose that's okay if they do a good job it's worth it then huh. thanks i'll ring some companies tomorrow
Yeah - i agree with Cailin, i used to do professional make-up.. we charged much more than $30 i'm sorry to say - and that was a few years ago... But we used to use MAC Professional products, so maybe that contributed to the cost?
Have you got the GC Wedding book Renee? I can post it to you if you want it.. i know it lists a few businesses.
ETA - Our trials used to be free... But i heard it is common to be charged for trials now?
Hi Catherine,
Thank you but yeah i have the GC Wedding book already... just have to remember to look at it! I have a couple of the magazines and a smaller one can't remember the name of it but it's a gold coast one also. i'll have a look in them! Thanks...yeah i thought i'd have to pay for a trial at least $10 i thought...maybe more....
i've emailed "Bella" makeup... i googled them and they used to be one of our customers at one stage so i'll see what they charge. they are based on gold coast and do brisbane etc too
I think the ones that advertise in the bridal books would be more expensive than one you could find locally.
In my local paper in the classifieds there are always make up artists advertised. Ask at the florist as they always know who else is in the local industry or you could always try you local chemist. If they sell a big name cosmetic range then they usually have someone trained. I got married in a small town and that's what I did and she did a brilliant job. Didn't charge me at all for the trial and I think (it was a while ago memory is a bit hazy) charged $45 each.
I think mine was 25-30 for the trial and about 45 on the day.
The girl who did mine was a ballroom dancer, so I was quite scared at what it was going to look like but it was fine.
Also from what I have found, the make up on the day is much better than the trial, hence the whole point of the trail, to see what you like and not like.
Renstar, I got married last July and used Angel Eye Effects. They were brilliant. They did hair and make up and even helped me get dressed on the day. If your interested i can try and find a contact number for them. From memory for hair and make up for myself, 3 bridesmaids, mum and flower girl it cost under $300.
Thanks girls so much for your help and the prices you paid so at least now I know and i'm not going in blind... at least I know what they should be charging me approx... and they aren't going to charge me $80 per girl!!!
Misty, thanks heaps, i googled "Angel Eye Effects" and found their 1300 number so will call them when I can. And compare them to Bella makeup and another one. perhaps if i can get 3 quotes that would be good. (and smart!). I also worry if i've left it too late as the wedding is end of sept and the trial day we've made for hair and makeup is 28 Jul (only day as my b/maids are booked up heaps and so am i)
surely someone can come out that day for a trial hey? It's 2mths away until the trial day so it's not like it's next week or 2 weeks away i guess......
Sammy - i agree, those magazines tend to lean towards the more "expensive" options....!!
We've decided that whoever we go with, we'll end up getting them to do our hair and makeup... as that way it's easier on the day... no running around!!!

: forgot a line!
Hmmm... I think Gold Coast Wedding is pretty good.. They advertise just about everyone that has anything to do with the wedding industry in our area basically. I agree with some of the other mags advertise the top end Good luck!
Yeah Catherine, I think the GC magazine is good but I know when I've looked at others they have been a bit "highly" priced! And sometimes when you log onto places like "brideonline" etc on the net, they usually only show "high" tastes!!! guess it depends on the magazine and editors etc huh? and who is willing to advertise in their mags...
the magazines are great though, and give me good ideas about hair and makeup, flowers etc for the day as i'm clueless about what flowers to have!!!
I had a trial with someone (glad I did) and looked like a drag queen - not kidding! In tears I ended up going to Myer and went to the Clinique counter sat down and explained what happened and what I wanted. My trial was free and my 4 bridesmaids and I got our makeup done there on the day, all we paid was a mininum $30 purchase of a product - and we bought lipsticks and glosses we wanted for the day - it was great. All the counters do this i think like Napoleon, Mac, etc... just a thought!
If you are on a budget, you can also try calling the Gold Coast Training Academy and get a student make up artist from there? My bestfriend studied there last year and has now opened up her own mobile make up thingy in the ACT. If you want I can ask her if she knows anyone up here?
Gosh! I'm shocked! Bella Makeup want to charge $65 each for the trial for makeup alone.... what a rip off.... I can't believe that. How long ago did you girls get married and only paid $10 for trial?? LOL!! thats alot of money just for a bit of makeup on the face and mucking around... i am happy to pay $20 each per trial, perhaps i should find someone that just does it on their own as extra $$ or something...
well, i've just called "Angel Eye Effects" as Misty recommended (thanks! ) and they can do the makeup/hair trial on the day i requested (getting so booked up this time of year i've left it bit late!) and they can do my wedding day also... luckily! and all for $455.00 that includes trial hair and makeup for 2 b/maids and me, and the actual day for 2 b/maids and me... i thnk that's okay and they use napoleon and polar makeup brands.....
Do you girls think i should go with that?? We don't have much time to be fussy thats all and i'll just ask them to ensure we aren't white like ghosts for the photos!! that happens i've been told!!!
