Hi, I am considering doing some Avon sales. Has anyone else done this with Avon?

I haven't but a friend of my mums done it and she did very well from her sales.

i did avon for a year or so a little while back, and it was really successful. only reason i gave it up was cos i got together with DH and we were going away in the truck so often that i never had spare time for it!!! anyway, as long as you're prepared to work at it, you can do pretty well (you really need to be able to work a territory and drop/collect the caralogues) - i was working with a friend so we had most of the town in which we lived, plus we sold at work - our average combined order every 3-4 weeks was around $2500 - and we got to split 35% (i think) of that, so fairly reasonable income. we spent maybe 2 hours a week dropping and collecting catalogues, had a bit of outlay for calls to people to make sure they were ready for their stuff to be delivered, plus products for advertising and stuff, but in reality, it was pretty profitable

I just saw the ad blink up here on BB & was thinking this might be something worth looking into. My MIL, mum & sister use a lot of Avon, so I'm sure I'd be able to make some money off them alone

I just wondered, has anyone else done it?

I did it a few years back when I was on my own. TBH for me it didn't work out that great. As there was already a consultant in my neighbourhood I was only selling to family and friends. Once I got my own stuff too I was probably only just breaking even, some months I owed.

I guess it depends like most things, how much work your prepared to put into it.

I'm doing it now but I don't have the time to really make it successful. I was doing a territory but am giving that up now because I've returned to full time work. I just do it at work now. My only problems are these:
1. You have to pay for the books which can be expensive if you aren't making much money
2. I buy way too much for myself

Hi there,

I've been doing AVON for this year and found it not to be too successful for me. BUt I don't put enough effort in it.

The books - it depends on how many you buy, but it's about 50c a book. Your territiory has about 100 houses, and you have 3 weeks to work that territory (but you can back order for a further 3 weeks). What I was doing, was buying 30 books and working them around the 100 house over the 3 weeks. But the problem is you don't always get the books back, even though you put a not saying what day to leave them on the letterbox. As I was collecting at a night time, I didn't want to knock on doors. and ultimately lost books. So by the end of the 3 week campaign, I'd only have about 10 books to work with.

Once thing I found and my SIL too.. was it may take you a few campaigns of dropping to start getting orders. As there are so many dodgy AVON ladies out there, they just hang back and wait to see if your reliable before they order. Also, ppl leave books IN their letterboxes, so you need to check inside.

The support from avon itself - that depends on your sales manager. I haven't had a great experience, but I can see it depends on the person.

My SIL has been doing it alot for about 12 months as done very well. She has about 60 regular customers to buy nearly every campaign.

I did Tupperware as a manager for some time and dound that to be far more profitable for the time you invest. 1-2 parties a week = 4-8 hours a week = $150-$300pw in profit. You can earn up to $10Kpa tax free before declaring it.. it's counted as a hobby.

Thanks mumofmany I've been looking into Tupperware aswell.. I've got the recent catalogue & have been asking my friends & family if they'd have parties if I started demonstrating & so far the few that I've asked said they would.. I might call the local distributor of Tupperware then rather than Avon.. Is there any initial outlay for Tupperware?

There isn't an initial outlay for tupper. How it works is your kit is paid off with the commissions from your first 4-6 parties. Then after that you earn 20% commission. Plus any stock you want for yourself is 32.2% off the RRP.

Where abouts are you in brisbane? I still have many contacts in the tupper world and actually work for a manager doing her paperwork and accounts. I may be able to point you in the right direction of someone close to you.

My only advice is pick the person you sign with well. As if they are not a manger yet, and they become one.. you go into their team. make sure that they are supportive and available and will not pressure you to do something you don't want to.

I've spoken to a few "burnt" ladies who have had a bad experience with the distributorship and/or manager they were with.

But having said that, there is a lot of money in tupper and a full maintained company car is achievable if you have the support at home to babysit the kids when you are working.

Babysitting wouldn't be an issue..
I've heard that your manager does a coming out party for you, is that true?

Their is 3 distributorships that cover brisbane. Under the distributorships there is varying levels of managers, then the dealers.

When you start, you have a coming out party which is called an announcement party. Your manager will come and do that one for you in your home. Any commission from the sales goes towards paying your kit off, and your manager will work to get you 6 parties within the first 2 weeks for you to start strong. It helps if you have some lined up already.

Your manager should explain to you to pay attention during that party rather than chatting and socialising, as it is a good training party for you to see how they are done.

just spoke to my manager, she doesn't know Julia. The distributorship that my manager's with will be doing sales meetings at Carindale which isn't too far from you. If your interested, I can pass your email address onto her. No stress. She's not a pushy person and shoots from the hip. She tells it how it is and is an inspiration. She's been with tupper for over 5 years and been earning a very decent income during that time. She has no other job, this is her fulltime job so you have her support during business hours and after.
