    Midwife in Wodonga..will I get a job?

Lately I have been thinking about what I want to do once the kids are a bit older and I can go back to work. Currently we have our own business which is keeping me busy but its not what I want to do.
I have been thinking that I want to become a midwife. DP is not sure about me going back to uni and thinks i should use the degree i already have, which is bachelor of psychology, but thats not what i want to do i only finished it because i had started.
His main concern is that i wont be able to get any work once i finsh because there is only one hospital in this area that has a maternity ward. he doesn't want to waste the money getting the degree if i wont be able to use it.
So, i was wondering if anyone works in this area in Albury Wodonga and if they know what the job situation is? Will I be able to get work? Should I go for it anyway?

From what I know of the situation down there, it possibly wont be hard to get the work, because Mat is usually always understaffed, but because they are always downgrading services, any job you get could be very tenuous at best. Besides, if you can't get into the B.Mid course with direct entry, you do have to do your B.Nursing first and then do the middy part, so that could take years and who knows what the situation would be like then?

    Thumbs up

Ok, not sure what the job situation is in the hospital situation and I am sure they can and will change in time. If it were me I would go for it. I have often thought about doing this and my dh would be behind me 100% but circ. are not right atm. Hope you make the decision of your heart. Would you be looking at getting into uni next year?
Great hospital esp. mat ward. Had 3 bubs there and soon #4

    Hello there,

Midwifery will get you a job anywhere and you can apply for scholarships to help you get there too. You will never be out of work as a midwife....anywhere!

    All the best,
