9 Months - 12 Months, May '05

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I have not been around of late. My dad passed away just over a week ago and I really not dealing with it at all. I was lucky enough to get to speak to him....the nurses said it was a miracle he woke up at all as he had a stroke. He was only in hospital to get his regular pain relief via a drip....
But back to what this forum is about.......great to read what all the bubs' have been up to lately and all the mile stones that they have reached.
Belated birthday wishes to everyone who's kids have had birthdays.

Yvette - how are you going? You must be so excited about having identical twins! You must also be tired too! Hope that you are going ok.

Kayne will be 1 months tomorrow and has a very cheeky grin. His walking has progressed to running...especially when he has something he is not supposed to and I see him. He just bolts down the corridor.
he was very cheeky at the hospital when I was with dad. Dad was unconscious and Kayne decided he would shake the bed and dad woke up. I am sure it is just a coincidence but maybe not. he also decided to pull at dads oxygen mask when I got him to touch my dad...it flicked dad in the face...but it made my dad laugh and Kayne did his cheeky laugh back at dad. It is a nice memory of dad laughing.
Sorry I keep going back to dad!

I am supposed to be organising Kaynes 1st birthday party but I dont know what to do. Has anyone got any ideas of what to do ? The last 1st birthday I did was 12 years ago and it was a traditional 'italian' thing that meant all the relo's over. I dont want it to be about the relo's - I want it to be about the kids and a happy affair!
Any ways I better go - so behind with all the housework and all that stuff!

Yeah it was a miracle that he woke up. He knew I was there and he knew I loved him heaps. Just missing him so much.........Even though I am 35 I still need my daddy.

Matilda's first is going to be a BBQ in the park for 2 hours in the arvo. Sausages & fairy bread...not very fancy. We were thinking of putting if people want to bring presents than a book would be nice, that way we can increase the book collection and people won't feel obliged to get anything big ykwim?

A BBQ sounds like a good idea - but being Melbourne it will probably be shocking weather like it was the night he was born!
I guess I better get my butt into gear and come up with an idea.

Marisa, so sorry to hear about your Dad, I am so glad you got to speak with him and he had some enjoyment before he passed. Our thoughts are with you. Please don't feel concerned that you are talking about your dad in your post, I am sure I speak for the others when I say that we are only too happy to hear about him, whatever you need to say, we are here to listen.

I have no idea what we will do for Ethan's 1st birthday either, I don't even know if we will still be in this house. I don't want the whole "big deal" like it was for his naming day, I couldn't relax and didn't get to have a decent conversation with anybody as DH and I were madly rushing around catering for everybody. Pity he is a bit too young for a Macca's party :smt016

What do you guys do for bad nappy rash, I hate to see Ethan suffering, I just wish these teeth would come up. I have had nappy off time, put his bum in the sun, when he isn't crawling off the towels, I have used the cornstarch powder, I have put the sudocream on - any suggestions?

oh we've only had it once just recently and we did the nappy off thing for an hour or so and also I wound up changing her nappy heaps more frequently and we got some special stuff from the chemist dekazin? or something like that which is for nappy rash & yeast infections, but Matilda just had the nappy rash with blisters & it helped in a few days. HTH!

I use Benpanthen or paw paw ointment ... Asha's clears up quickly with those. If she has thrush I use Daktarin, it is thrush cream mixed with a zinc cream so it stays where it should instead of being wiped on to the nappy straight away.

My mother in law is an ex nurse and ex MCHN and she wreckons zinc cream is the best. I have used the Heinz Sudocrem which came in my bounty bag. I thinks that is brilliant. You can get it from Safeway.

Christy, yes it's getting harder picking Angus up & bending down generally with the belly. Lucky I have DH and the girls to help.

Hi Gayle. PJs at 12.30! Sounds like someone busy with a baby, lol. I'm still in my dressing gown at the moment. Good luck with selling the house, dealing with agents is such a hassle. I've only used Sorbolene occasionally for Angus, his botty has been mostly fine. When Lola was a bub I used Curash powder which I found very good.

Hi Kellee. When you do post regularly like me it can take an awful lot of time to keep up with. I'm trying to ration my time a bit, but it's so addictive. Nice to hear that you have a life away from the puter. What do you play? I play guitar (& drums but not for years).

Hi Kelly. Sounds like Asha's doing really well with her food. Angus is not a bad eater, but makes such a mess and throws things all over the floor. And he refuses to wear a bib, so change of clothes often needed after a meal, arrrrggghhhh.

Hi Marisa. So sorry about your father. It's nice that you have that memory of him laughing with Kayne. Feel free to talk about him, I'm sure it's a good part of the grieving process.

No birthday ideas from me I'm afraid. Angus' is in a couple of weeks, and we'll just be having my parents and brother over. Although I have made some new friends on BB, I'm just not up to organising anything, so we're doing a quiet family thing.

Still snot city here, but I think we've turned the corner. I mangaged to put some blankets on Angus last night without waking him up, which was good. I worry about him getting cold at night now. Putting socks inside his pj pants with the feet is helping, and not closing the door completely, so when I go in the door doesn't make a noise.

Lots of birthdays coming up. We'll get a nice cake for Angus & I want to get him some nice board books. He has so many toys already from his big sisters - I kept all the best things. We have some serious videoing to do too, with him just newly walking, so cute!

Kayne always tosses his blankets off - so I have now invested in one of those grobags. They are expensive but I find them quiet good. Seems to keep Kayne warm. They have differnt levels of warmth. I have gone for the warmest one coming into winter.

Thanks for your suggestions on the nappy rash, it has almost cleared up with the sudocream and nappy off time, plus I have been using cornstarch powder too. Ethan's tooth can be seen almost busting through the skin, I told him he is almost a big boy with his two front top teeth, lol.

I wanted to get a Grobag but couldn't justify the cost of them at the moment (on one wage :cry: ) so I did the next best thing and got a cheaper polar fleece sleeping bag from target or Big W, he has two of them and absolutely loves them and it keeps him toasty warm and guess what, he slept in until almost 8 am thismorning, I didn't know myself, mind you the stupid dog kept barking every two hours all through the night so we got a bad nights sleep anyway, Ethan slept like a log all the way through.

Anyway, must fly, heaps of things to do.

Marisa I"ve seen the sleeping bags, but they look like they'd be too tight over his PJs, and you want the PJs on as well, or you're not getting any extra warmth. So what are these Grobags, how much are they and where do you get them? Can you fit them over PJs? How do you adjust the warmth? Lil do the ones you've got fit over the sleeves of the PJs? What size did you get? Angus is in 00 or 0 PJs I think.

Ethan is in size 0 clothes and PJ's and he has a size 0 sleeping bag, the pjs fit under the sleeves no problems and the rest of the bag has enough room for him to move around in and kick his legs if he wants to.

Grobags are available online or you can get them at any good baby shop I think. That website might have a list of stockists which will stop you paying postage. From the last I looked into them they were about $80-90 each, not including postage, but they are good quality. Grobags don't have sleeves, they look like a singlet arrangement so the pj's just go underneath.

But, honestly I think the sleeping bags do the same job at the moment and they are a lot cheaper and they grow out of things so fast.

Also, there are other places that make the sleeping bags so perhaps look into them too to find one which is cheaper.

We have two sleeping bag suit thingys...one is from BigW and has long sleeves but its lighter weight and will be perfect for our QLD winter... also my mum got one in a baby shop in the US which is great. It doesn't have any sleeves and fits great over PJ's. They are both sized up to 18 months and one she will grow out of well and truely before then, but thats okay... it will be summer by then anyway LOL

LILG got it right with the web site for the grobags. They are around the $90 dollar mark. Saw them on ebay too the other day. There is heaps of room for them in their pj's and the size I got - 12-18 months looks like it will fit him for alot longer than that. There is heaps of growing room.
He wears his pj's and socks under them - they are a singlet sleeve type thingo on top and it zips down instead of up. When it gets warmer I will put him in less clothes. But I am relaxed knowing that it is going to be very cold tonight and he wil be warm.

Woo Hoo, Ethan's top front left tooth has broken through, yippee :smt026 , he is such a trooper, he hasn't really complained at all, only when he had the bad nappy rash with it, which has cleared up thankfully. That makes 5 teeth now with number 6 on the way, the other front tooth. I thought he was late in getting his teeth as he didn't start until about 8 months but he is going great guns now.

:oops: On another note, Sorry guys, I didn't realise that you couldn't post website links on this site so I stuffed up and I have removed them from my previous post now. Mitchell is standing on his own, sleeping pretty well, and very slowy getting an appetite back after 8 weeks of being sick, teeth, gastro etc. I get the snot city thing Yvette!
all the kids are zooming around now aren't they?? I don't know what to do when Mitch turns one. I'm not sure if we'll be in this (crappy) house or not either, and I don't think I can bear to have people over here.

Marisa - I'm terrrible sorry about your dad - from a certified daddy's girl. I'm petrified about losing mine. He's the world to me, and he buys me the BEST shoes. Don't worry about typing (!) about him all the time, that's how you force yourself to deal with it I think, esp when it's in black and white. we don't mind at all.

I've missed you all, I'm going to have a bit of a ***** and check on the Vic thread, catch up with you in there Yvette!

Well had a few tough days with working more & Matilda's become very precious lately... :-k don't know why. Just all of a sudden. Then yesterday she had a traumatic day at daycare & got bitten :cry: now she's super sensitive today, and apparently wouldn't be put down yesterday for the rest of the day had to be held.... poor sausage.

ok...going to have a nap while I have DH here! :)

Angus sleeps without his dummy now! He can't have it because of his blocked nose, and just doesn't seem to be missing it, so we're going to put it away for good! He still has his cold, less snotty (only slightly) but sounding a bit chesty now, and off his food. Lucky his daddy is a nurse. He's having a lovely time with his big sisters at the moment & hasn't gone down for his nap yet. As long as he's happy may as well leave him a bit.

Thats great that Angus is sleeping without his dummy =D> I guess its a lot less painful doing it this way... Matilda is sick atm again with green stuff coming out her nose and she's using the dummy for a minute or two and then spitting it out... :-k Maybe she'll be without it soon... :)

Bugger, after being great for 2 weeks, it looks like the snot has returned!! Mitchell cried and clung onto me when I left for work yesterday - usually he waves happily, I felt so crap all day. Get even worse when I read the release about the budget at work. I don't want anything to do with these new changes. Just because people need welfare doesn't mean they should be treated like dogs.

Mitchell dropped his dummy about 8 weeks ago, we didn't really even notice it, but I think it had something to do with snot and not breathing. I never thought I'd say I miss the dummy but it makes him look like a liddle baby, and I want him to stay that way!!

Bugger about the snot fairy returning Christy & Lulu. Angus still running on Demazin here too, & it's turning green (sorry TMI).

Lol Lulu, he's gonna keep growing into a big boy, ya just gotta face it and take lotsa photos.

Sounds like you work at Centrelink, a big part of our lives. We've been finding them really good, but always have to expect they'll send Lindsay off for medicals every couple of years or so. I don't think they'll be able to send him back to part time work unless they want to give me an at home nurse to cope with the consequences, lol.

Only a week til my baby turns 1! Better find him some pressies & start thinking about cake. Mmmmmm, cake!

Hi girls! We had our first day at toddler gym today, its a 15 minute drive from our house & is only $5, and only 30 minutes long, but Matilda loved it! She ran around & climbed on everything and was running, falling, laughing the whole time, AND she had a big feed when she got home, some quiet play and just slept 2 1/2 hours!!! YAY! (I got an hour of sleep too!) We are definately going back next week!! Wooo hooo!

YAY Christy ... I am glad you found something for Matilda that tires her out! Does she have any teeth yet?

Asha still has no teeth, although I can see them and it looks like we will get all our teeth at once (2 bottom and 3 on top!!!)

Asha stands on her owna nd will squat down and stand up holding on to things and has begun cruising the furniture in ernest but no steps on her own yet. She does however CLIMB!!!! She climbs on to the coffee table and her little yellow chair in her room. I am sure it is because she has learnt how to climb out of the pool with me holding her bottom.

So the sags continues ...still no teeth!!! but muching away on all sorts of yummy food (she had chicken chop suey at day care today).

Better go football training tonight!

I am still here! But only just... Has been a crazy crazy CRAZY week! And now Charlie is trying to eat the computer cables, so I must be brief.

Sorry to hear that there are so many sick kiddies in here! It's certainly that time of the year for it. I hope that the various remedies kick in and they start feeling better soon.

Toddler gym sounds great, Christy. I will have to find one for Charlie. What's the age that 'they' recommend that bubs start going?

Charlie got another couple of teeth this week. Now he has two top, two bottom and two top eye teeth. He had a couple of traumatic days as a result, but seems happy and contented now. He's also started to sleep better - we went away at the end of April and that really threw his routine out. Now he seems to be sleeping from 6.30-7 pm to 5-6 am, then I feed him and he goes back to sleep for an hour or two. I was all geared up to have a nice long sleep in this morning, but DH went downstairs and opened the noisy screen door before he left, so Charlie woke up. Not happy, Jan!

In other news... and this is something I would NEVER normally do... I entered a makeover competition put on by a local TV show. I've recently lost 20kg and I have NOTHING that fits me anymore. If you win you get $250 new outfit, $150 haircut and $100 makeup! I could really use that at the moment - I don't really know what current fashions suit me. I have commandeered my best friend to do a "Straight Eye for the 20-kilos Lighter Chick" when she has some time off next week. It would be nice to feel my age (24) instead of 50! I'm also still busy busy doing some accompanying work for a girl's choir in Brisbane, so I won't be here much over the next week (again!). DH goes away in a few weeks time, so I'm looking forward to catching up with you ladies properly when I have the evenings to myself.

Anyway, Charlie is really starting to do naughty things like climb on the computer chair, so I'd better go and rescue him! Hope you're all well and that your bubs stay healthy and happy.

Guessed right first time Yvette, now you know where the child abduction thing came into it! I'm only there 2 days a week atm. I used to be in the families section (I loved it) but am now stuck in the Newstart queue and it's not half as fun, or interesting. I like the bodyshop waaaaay better, but I just need to build it up a bit more before I go chucking away paid mat leave.

Christy - the baby gym sounds great, I don't think there is anything like that here except for the really expensive ones. Matilda can "shake her sillies out" as I used to say to DD. How are the tanties going?? It's been a hard road with our littlies hasn't it? Mitch has gone back to non-sleeping again, but he is sick. We just have to wait it out before we can try another routine. I'm just lucky I have DP here, although it would be nicer to have another wage.

Woo hoo, mitch has amused himself for about an hour now!

WE HAVE A TOOTH!!!!!

Came through yesterday but haven't had much sleep!! She didn't want to sleep last night so while she was playing on the floor she decided it would be a good thing to bite Mummy's toes and she did and it hurt LOL!!!

Top left tooth is through and there are two more up top that look like they will be through any day now!!! Bottom ones don't even look like they are there!

Anyway better go we have to drop some things at work and then go and have lunch with Daddy, because he might have to go away next week for work!!!

Hooray for Asha's tooth! They do hurt - be careful that she doesn't hurt you! It's a bugger when they all come through at once - Charlie got his two at a time - but at least the pain is over with in one hit, for bub and for Mum! I hope that she didn't experience too much pain and that it's all over with quickly for you both.

It must be really rewarding for you to be working two days a week, Lulu. What is Newstart? I have only just started dealing with Centrelink (for Family Payment stuff) and I don't know much about it.

Had a great day today - went out with Mum for her birthday, and went op shopping and found a pink ball gown, almost a perfect fit, for $12.50! The things you find... will be able to wear it for gigs and feel like a princess. Should be fun.

Oh dear, Charlie is eating my favourite pair of kitten heels - better go and save them...

2 days a week is quite enough atm! And newstart is the dole. If you find it hard to get your head around the C'link stuff, I'm quite happy to help you out. It's pretty bloody confusing I know!

Thank heavens those teeth are through. Why on earth it has to be such a trauma for everyone I don't know.

Well just finished Matilda's birthday invitations and I'm a bit excited... we put a photo of Matilda on the front & its really cute, from Aidyn (Ambah's son) birthday party... have a look its the last one on her website's photo gallery... I'm a bit proud.... :)

Now just counting down the month! OMG I can't believe its been almost a year!

Well, you all must have much more exciting lives than me, because you're too busy to post! I haven't done too much that's worth writing about, but anyway... Went shopping with DH for clothes for when he goes to the US in a few weeks... It's very depressing going into Jeanwest, etc. and not being able to try anything on myself! I'm going shopping on Thursday at some factory outlets, so hopefully I'll find something there too. Went to Newfarm Park for a picnic - had far too much to eat - but Charlie had a ball crawling on the grass and looking at the birds. That's about it really - a fairly uneventful few days.

Anyway, I hope you all have time to let us know what you're up to soon. It's far too quiet in here! Hope you're all well.

Kellee, how funny about the factory outlets, are you going to stones corner or harbour town? We just went to harbour town recently & found a Pumpkin Patch outlet!! OMG... don't let me loose in a place like that LOL!
I only got one top for Matilda, I held back. There were some good bargins there, not like $5.00 but a couple of $10 long sleeve shirts which were really nice.

Matilda's birthday is going to be a BBQ at South Bank. As we have friends from all around Brissy we thought a middle place would be good. And we want it to be casual so an arvo tea with some sausages & nibblies and just blankets etc...We are hoping it doesn't rain! Otherwise it will be hard to figure out where to go...

We're going to Stones Corner, Christy. Probably best that I don't venture down to Harbour Town if there's a Pumkin Patch outlet. Although I'll probably go there sometime in the next few months - Charlie will be a pageboy soon! My brother is surprising his g/f of 6 years by proposing to her in front of everyone at her 21st b'day party on the weekend. I'm so excited! I wish I had such a wonderful proposal - as I recall, DH proposed to me at the end of a very long conversation about marriage, didn't have a ring, or flowers, or anything! Little bugger that he is never gave me any flowers for it at all! Although he did get me flowers after I had Charlie... he brought someinto hospital after C was born and got cross because I didn't make a fuss... HELLO, I had just been through 17 hours of LABOR and was a bit preoccupied! Silly men.
