We certainly are a slack bunch. ;)
Cass, congrats on becoming an blood aunty. I am not holding my breath until I get any nieces or nephews... I think I will be 40 by the time my siblings or SIL get their acts together.
Oh, and you think you have a lump for a baby? Edward has 2 kgs on Elijah... I am getting quite a workout carrying him around. :p
Nell, I think we all struggle with our toddlers. Life is just so easy when one or the other of my children is asleep. They are both lovely on their own, but together they are such hard work! I just keep telling myself that they grow out of it eventually.
I certainly do have my hands full. Edward has started taking little steps around the furniture. He pulled himself up on Byron's old walker yesterday and actually took a couple of steps. I think it was a fluke as the walker moved and he just managed to correct himself, but still....yikes!
I can see the two top middle teeth trying to make their way through now. I am resigning myself to not really getting consistent sleep for quite a while. Maybe when he has a full mouth of teeth?? Some nights He sleeps from 8 to 4, then goes down again until about 7, which I am happy with. Other nights I get woken 2 or 3 times. I have no idea what he is doing. :dunno:
Better go... Byron is raiding the pantry.

Hello again all!
Cass CONGRATS on being a blood aunty. I too am not - and possibly may NEVER be a blood aunty. but my sister IS only 24 so time yet....
Berrme what a clever little man to be pulling self up and standing! lachlan has just started sitting a bit better, and he TRIES very hard to pull self along floor and now puts legs up a tiny bit. I've been told to make most of time he's NOT on move. 'they've' been right about most things up til now so i'm tryin LOL
ozzyhoff - we bought 2.5 acres in Port Lincoln and can't wait to build. but can't do so until we sell ours. hopefully we can get a rental on acreage. i had such a happy childhood on farms - i hope to give our kids the same.
nellnell - i haven't read your other thread, but i just watned to say that i don't know how ladies do babies & toddlers at the same time. DP and i have discussed more children and i'm adamant - when Lachlan is in school LOL ;)
Well, i spke to CYH re Lachlans crying and they said it's separation anxiety.... they suggested putting a radio on snow in his room (didn't work) and going in and talking to him (not picking up) again - didn't work. so i'm riding it out. it won't be forever, and he needs me so i'm here.
I did put a pillow from 'MY' bed (spare room where i sleep) and jam it between cot and cot mattress for a presence in the bed and that it would smell of me. for the first time in weeks he slept until 3am (usually wakes at 12am)... but when i tried to put him back down after bottle he cried like his heart was breaking. so he slept on my shoulder with me.
In one way its lovely having someone love you/ need you so much they can't bear to be apart but in another way I'D LIKE SOME SLEEP NOW LACHLAN!!! hahaha!
hope you're all good - thankfully Adelaide experiencing a change the last few days. hate heatwaves.
fingers crossed for us this weekend - two opens and have been di%$ed around by buyers... please please let our house sell!
:)
EDIT: I wanted to share my awesome news that I won a years supply of nappies - how AWESOME....!!! I enter competitions for a hobby and have won lots but this is the first thing DP has said GREAT to (except the XBox360 and guitar hero i won!!) LOL
-
Nell, I don't mind you including your DD in your posts here (and I'm sure no one else does either) cos it's all part of your package... I know that I do and Mel (Berrme) includes our monsters... errr I mean toddlers ;) Sometimes I find it really helps to hear that you're not alone. That's not a bad sleep overnight :) I'm happy that Elijah *touch wood* seems to be going for somewhere between 5 and 7 hours overnight... finally!!
Mel, omg I can't believe his teeth! His pulling up and walking along furniture... OMG! I have lazy ones huh lol. Joshua was 9 months walking, Oskar 15 months. I'll take the 15 months any day of the week! Oh I absolutely CRAVE Oskar's sleep time and I think I might cry when he decides to drop it! Oh you must have some great arm muscles now with Edward then huh! Bahahaha @ Byron raiding the pantry, mine is so out of order now cos I've had to move things out of reach and now it's such a mess I don't even know what's in there half the time! I have put "his" stuff where he can get it cos he's all about "no I do it by self" these days lol.
Sach, sounds lovely.... and I'm still jealous! Awww I hate that heart breaking cry, Elijah sometimes will be crying and I'm in the middle of something with Oskar or in the kitchen and even though he can see me he'll start to REALLY cry that "mummy why aren't you picking me up I really want you" cry. Wow, congratulations!! Was it through Huggies?? I do enter when I remember lol. I used to enter a lot more competitions but I just don't win!
Elijah is so funny and loves laughing at Oskar. I love that, it's so cute. He does grab great big handfuls of his hair if he lays on him though.. ahahah karma I say.
Thanks for the congratulations :) I seriously never thought I'd see the day! He has always been the off the rails type and stupid.. really just hmmm... so it's really great to see this change in his life and see that he's pulled himself out and up of the s*** he got himself into. His fiance is lovely, only spoken on the phone cos they live in Nowra. I think she's got him sorted out lol.
I need to ask a question of those with the toddlers - last night Oskar finished his dinner then says I have a sore tummy. He said when he pushed it it hurt. We don't know if it was the buckle on the belt on the high chair (he sits next to me at the table in it and we just haven't changed it cos it works hehe) or what. This morning he woke up half crying and told me his tummy was hurting so I said maybe you should go back to sleep for a bit (it was 6am boohoo) so he rolled over for about 3 mins then back over and said my tummy is all better now, it doesn't hurt anymore. Hmmm ok confused by this. Tonight he was getting ready for bed and pushing his tummy just under where the ribs are in the centre and told me he had a sore tummy. So, I ask him after his books if his tummy was ok now and he said it was all better. So, finally my question is ... what's this about?? Is this normal? Does he have a sore tummy or is he learning about the concern or about expressing maybe a wind pain or something? Yesterday he had 3 feral sloppy poos (he's had a cold this week so it can be normal) and today he's done only 2 really small clumps of pellet type poos. Did he maybe have a touch of something and now has some consipation pains? I don't want to dismiss things but I also have a phobia of tummy bugs after having 3 this year since June! So I couldn't get to sleep last night cos my mind kept worrying :(
-
Cass, maybe Oskar had wind? I know the pain comes and goes when I have it.
On the other hand, he may be faking. Maybe he has associated tummy pain with lots of mummy time and sympathy? Byron has definitely been faking and over exaggerating thing lately. He yells out that he needs to do a poo/ wee to get out of time outs or to come out of his room after bedtime. He yells blue murder when he has just bumped his knee so he can have cuddles and kisses. (He could have them anyway if he just asked :D)
I hope he is ok.
-
Thanks Mel. He did it again today after his sleep. He was carrying on like a pork chop but wouldn't get off his bed even though the door was open and I told him to come out whenever he was ready. He yelled out that his tummy was sore again. Andy went in to ask him to show him where and then I went in also and asked him other places hurt too just to try to guage if he's just saying yes or not. I think there could be another possibility too and that is with this horrible heat and humidity we've been having he really, in my opinion, does not drink enough water and apparently that can cause some tummy cramps too.
As for faking it, yep he does that and it drives me batty lol. He will just start to do that "fake cry" which sounds more like an animal in misery and won't stop!! I've resorted to telling him that I'm not speaking to him whilst he's doing that and that when he's finished I'll speak to him again and then walking away lol. Doesn't last all that much longer usually. Thanks again Mel for your help :)

Hi! Oh my goodness, I thought it was just quiet in here, and then I realised that all of the threads that I subscribed to had disappeared! So I wasn't getting any emails to say I had news to catch up on. I have lots to read!
Ollie is doing well, 6 and a half months now. His bottom two teeth have finally come through, now I'm just waiting for him to start sleeping again. He's up every 3 hours at the moment, cries if I put him down, but laughs at me when I pick him up for a cuddle. Who knows what's going on there, I think he might think it's good time to play at 3am, I don't think so little boy!
He's crawling like a champion. Well, in his own commando way. He's so quick though, I can't leave him for a second or he's down the hallway, or eating the table, or kissing the cat. He pulled himself up to standing in his cradle the other day, I quickly sat him down before he realised that was pretty clever. It's so much easier having the cradle next to our bed rather than the cot in the other room, especially since he's waking so often. I just keep a good eye on him while he's awake now, just in case, I'll have to move him soon though if he keeps this up.
He makes me laugh every day, he's such a character.
It's good to be back, I'm looking forward to reading up on how you're all going.
:D
-
Hi Sare!! Missed you. Omg he is so adorably cute!! He has hair like Elijah lol, I just LOVE it. Elijah has no teeth yet, no crawling... has got the sitting thing really well now, he did it within days, must've really been ready. Can roll onto his belly but keeps his arm under him and his fingers and/or fist in his mouth lol then rolls back onto his back. Re: sleeping.... aaaaaaarrrrgghhhh Elijah keeps chopping and changing it and it drives me nuts! I would love to sleeeeeeeeeeeep for 6/7 hours straight every night haha. Have you got Ollie on solids? Elijah is just doing BLS cos I'm too lazy to do the whole mushed up veg I used to do for Oskar, so it's easier to just give him what we have. He actually is starting to love it. Doesn't like to be spoonfed at all, but will happily sit there and suck and lick some bread roll, chicken etc. He actually usually just sits with us at dinner time and joins the family with food now, so it's really cool and fun.
-
Hey Cass! Great to be back!
I know what you mean about sleeping 6 hours, before I had Ollie I had no idea how much I would appreciate a 6 hour sleep. We've had two nights in a row now where I've only had to wake up for a feed once (around 3.30am) and then back to sleep until 8am. The last few weeks has been 12, 3, 6, then up at 8, so this is heaven!
Ollie's hair is always sticking up, I love it too. I'd love to see pictures of Elijah, are you on facebook? People are always trying to flatten his hair down, he doesn't look right though, I love his mohawk.
We have started solids, still on mushy fruit and vegies at the moment. He's eating really well, doesn't like potato but everything else so far he's loved. Even though he was pulling hilarious faces and spitting the potato out, he still kept opening his mouth up for more. I'd love to try him on more finger foods, he loves to feed himself but I'm not really sure what to give him. I just bought one of those mesh bag thingies, he's been eating grapes and melon in that. Frozen grapes were really helpful to sooth his gums while his teeth were coming through.
That's so great that Elijah sit's with you for dinner time, how cute!
-
hi again all.
well house may be sold so off to port lincoln we go. no country Christmas this year - but should be moving around 22/1/10. Cannot wait. it's a dream come true.
lachlan is still sleeping a bit average. i'm going with it despite MIL saying 'let him cry it out... he doesn't need night bottle'. well that's great but i can't cope with his crying and he only has 3 in 24hours - hes hungry at night! so i've been saying i'm doin it but i'm not LOL. he'll drop it when he's ready!
received our years supply of babylove nappies .....16 BOXES OF THEM!! 4 packs in each box and each pack has 36 nappies in them. i calculated around 2000 nappies. awesome.
lach is at my mums today while i catch up on things here and have 'me' time. gonna be soooo excellent actualy having lunch at lunchtime! woah!
lachlan is eating HEAPS. he did start around 4months and i know some people say that's wrong, but he was looking for it and loved it the minute he started. he is 9kg!!! he eats, mashed roast and vegs, potato, pumpkin, broccoli, beans, carrot, muesli, custard, yoghurt, toast and vegemite, weetbix, fruit purees. i put grated cheese in his veg and also a teens of vegemite and he LOVES it.
anywho better go do some house work
-
Oooh I hope Ollie keeps sleeping like that :) lol I know what you mean about the hair. Elijah's just goes all sticky uppy... it's so adorably cute and yep looks so funny and wrong if it gets patted down, like sometimes if you pull a shirt over his head it flattens it if it's a bit damp... but I rough it up then ahahaha cos it's not right! Yep, on FB... Cassandra Hoffmann. Has pic of the boys as profile pic ;) Re: finger foods... I give Elijah chunks of things that he can't fit in his mouth completely... so like big bit of bread roll, big chunk chicken, cruskits, arrowroot biscuits (although he has choked a little on them cos he bit a piece off) ummmm raisin toast, normal toast, spaghetti, baked beans (kinda mushed a bit so they weren't a whole bean) etc. I have those mesh bags too, let me tell you this...lol do NOT do what I did with Oskar and put banana in it... OMG baaaahahahaha the mess!! Elijah has had apple and grapes in it. I cut the grapes in half so they mush easier and he gets the juice.
Hey Sach, sometimes it's just better to let the MIL or "well meaning" others just think you're doing what makesn them happy or what they believe is right! YAY on the house selling, will be awesome to be moving so soon and so very exciting too! "me" time... what is that strange thing you speak of?? lol... kidding, hope you loved and enjoyed it. I'm craving some majorly!! Like you wouldn't believe! Ah well, all good things come to those that wait right?
-
I agree Sach, sometimes it is easier to just smile and nod, keeps them happy and you can go on doing what works for you.
Cass, your boys are adorable! So so cute.
I was thinking about putting banana in the mesh bag too, so glad I waited, thanks! Ollie likes mango in it, I tried to give him a piece of mango but it slides straight out of his hand, so the bag works well.
The sleeping went back to being up every few hours again, and then last night he slept from 8pm - 5.40am, I almost did a little dance when I woke up and saw the sun coming up. Who knows what tonight will bring. I think he might be getting cold during the night and that wakes him up. I stopped putting him in his sleeping bag because it's really thick with long sleeves, and he seemed to be getting too hot, last night I tried it again and we had a great night so I'll try again. I need to get an in between one i think.
Quick question, do you feed your babies until they don't want anymore? That's what the mchn said but I think Ollie would eat the entire batch of food. He'll just keep eating...
-
Sarah, they do stop eating eventually. :D My boys , especially Byron, eat like you would believe. If they want more food I give them more food. I just gave Edward spag bol last night as that was what we were eating and he ate a massive amount, more than you would think would fit into a baby. :p Byron has eaten almost as much as me from the time he started eating adult food. You just might end up having lots of poos to deal with though. It is a better problem to have than a baby that doesn't eat.
Sacha, way to go on selling your house. It must be really exciting to know you are making such a big move. I am excited enough about the prospect of getting the carpets ripped up and floorboards polished. ;) But to be honest, I hate moving, so I am glad it is you. :D
Cass, I still have a bald baby. A lady at the shops yesterday commented on how cute my little bald baby was. Byron didn't get any hair to speak of until after he turned 1 so i am not holding my breath for sticky uppy hair just yet.
We haven't been getting any consistent sleep here either. Edward had conjunctivitis last week and has a cold this week so things have been better. He is happy enough during the day, he just is waking up for feeds as he can't breathe through his nose... poor little thing.
We put out xmas tree up on the weekend because we go up to Cairns in a couple of weeks. I wanted our house to be a bit christmassy, but not for only a few day before we leave. I can't belive how fast the year has gone!!
-
I don't seem to be getting emails all the time to say there's a new post which is why I keep going MIA!
I have loved reading about all the toddler exploits in here. I feel busy just with one, that I couldn't imagine having a toddler running around as well!! We are TTC though (only because it took so long the first time), so who knows what may happen!
Sleep here isn't great, but it's not terrible. We've been co-sleeping so I can just roll over to feed him when he wakes which is once, sometimes twice over night. There is the odd night where he will wake 4-5 times and is just really unsettled. We were on a roll with day sleeps. In the morning he would sleep for 2 hours, and now all of a sudden he's gone back to half hour cat naps. I wish we could have some kind of routine in the morning, but it just doesn't seem to for him. Does everyone here get up around the same time each morning? Maybe that's what I need to try. sometimes it's 7am, sometimes it's 9 or anywhere in between.
Food is going well ...we're doing BLS and he's eating quite a bit now. He loves spag bol, avocado, banana and toast. Tried scrambled egg this week which he thought was pretty good too! lol He's still having about 6 feeds a day from me as well. The MCHN told me that was too many, yet she told me I should be demand feeding him?! I am demand feeding him, and he's demanding it that many times in a day. It doesn't bother me, so I don't really see what the problem is! Dont know why I bother going - she frustrates me!
I can't believe Noah is going to be 8 months next week.
I was putting together a photo book for some christmas presents, and I got a bit teary looking at his newborn photos. He was so small. His 0000 suits were swimming on him and now he's in 0's, sitting, rolling everywhere, babbling and giggling all the time. Time goes way too quickly.
-
Megan, stop going to see the MCHN if she is giving you grief. I am not sure what her theory is with demand feeding? Maybe you only demand feed until it gets to 4 feeds, then he can wait till tomorrow? That is rubbish, especially when it has been hot. Babies get thirsty aswell as hungry. I don't really keep track of his milk feeds but Edward would be having about 6 feeds a day. I am pretty sure Byron would have been having 5 feeds a day until about 9 or 10 months when he started cutting back himself and drinking lots of water with his solid feeds.
Oh and regarding routines... if there is one thing I have learnt, it is routines never last very long with children. Teeth, illness, weather, visitors all stuff routines so try to be flexible.
Goodluck with TTC. I hope you find it easier the second time round. Sometimes I wish I had had mine closer together so Byron hadn't hit the terrible 2s before Edward arrived, but I think it is hard no matter when the second comes along. Very joyful and rewarding too, of course. :D We are trying to decide when we want to start TTCF number 3. Big gap or small gap? not quite sure yet.
-
I think I will stop going to see her. I don't listen to anything she says and do my own thing anyway. She just seemed to be contradicting herself withe demand feeding thing and it didn't make any sense to me. Didn't even bother going down the BLS discussion path with her. Noah's happy, growing, alert and all that good stuff so I won't bother going back. With the feeds, he seems to be having 4-5 during the day and then probably 2 overnight (sometimes more). He's drinking anywhere between 50-150mls of water each day as well. I offer it to him at each meal time in a sippy cup and he gulps it down.
I thought you might say that about routines!! lol A girl can dream! ;)
-
Hi everyone again.
I agree on midwifes contradicting themselves - or at least the CYH do. I phone them every so often when i need advice (mainly sleeping/ eating) and one said wrapping him in a cot sheet was fine and to stop doing it very soon as 1. it's getting hot and 2. he's VERY mobile (he gets out anyway and has done since birth and he rolls when in the wrap anyhow).... i rang at 5am this morn and the lady said NO to co-sleeping, MUST wrap in a single bed sheet, MUST keep him on his back to sleep 100% of the time .... well.... i'm not going in there to check 24/7 ... he rolls to sleep on his side anyway - am i going to wake him when i roll him to his back? NO F-ing way!
I'm serously deliriious ATM .... i've had 2 hours sleep in over 24 hours and i feel like I have the worst hangover ever and I didn't drink last night. EAUGH!.
Lach was more than a bit difficult last night .... 2 hours TOTAL!!! :(
Screaming his head off ... slept 1 hour on my shoulder and then criied and cried and cried (i cried too)... even woke DP and he snores like nothing else. I have no idea what it was about. Did everything ... change nappy, bonjella, unwrapped, wrapped, panadol... i was going out of my mind. he's happy as today and i'm stuffed. :(
no teeth yet but his top ones u can see in the gum??? my MIL said that anyway. but she also said it could be colic as he was VERY colicky as a newborn.... so starting on brauer colic again tonight. i can't survive like that again. anyone got any hints ... or had same thing? i know our babies are all diff but... they're at the same stage and I'm seriously NOT thinking straight... i can't ever remember his last feed time or how much or if he's pooed today!!!???
hope you're all good ... EEEK to xmas 3 weeks away. am v excited for his 1st xmas.
GL to the lady trying to conceive. :)
xx

So it has been quiet in here. For some reason all my notifications have disappeared so I am going through and finding the ones I actually want to know about again.
I hope you are all well.
Sacha, are you getting any more sleep yet? I haven't had colicky babies so I don't know what to do with them. Sorry.
We are off to Cairns again tomorrow for 2 weeks. I really am going to try to get some rest time in and not just run around trying to keep all the gransparents happy. I still have to pack for the boys and myself. DH can pack for himself later. ;)
The boys are well. Edward has now got his top 2 teeth through. Byron got the 2nd top ones before the middle ones and looked like a total goober for a little while, but Edward is doing things the right way. :D He has started letting go of whatever he is holding on to and standing up on his own for a few seconds at a time. He also reaches out and leans until he can grab a different piece of furniture so he can walk across between things. :o I am not ready for 2 walking children just yet!
Oh and he claps at everything. It is soooo cute... he just grins at you and claps his hands.
He is doing really well with his eating too. I have mostly just been giving him what we are eating or pieces of fruit or sandwiches etc. I don't think he has refused anything yet. He doesn't seem to want to BF for very long at a time during the day ATM. I think it is because it is too hot to really want to be that close for very long. Morning and Evening feeds are still good long feeds so I am not concerned, it just messes my poor boobs around a bit.
We have also been getting some decent sleep again since the teeth cut. He is sleeping from about 7.30 through to 4am. I generally just take him in with me and feed him back to sleep then. That gets us through till about 6.30.
Anyway, better get onto that packing.
Have a Merry Christmas (just in case I don't get back on before then).
-
I hope you're getting some more sleep now Sacha, we've had a few nights like that lately too with this cold that just won't leave us.
Megan, your routine sounds exactly like ours :D
Ollie is getting really brave, too brave, I try and be there to catch him but it doesn't always happen. Poor little guy needs a stack hat! I feel so bad, luckily we have carpet I guess. He's standing up at every opportunity, with whatever he can reach to pull himself up.
We've started swimming lessons now, can't remember if I said that before. He loves it! He's smiling the entire time.
I hope everyone's enjoying the lead up to Christmas!
-
Hi all, it HAS been quiet in here.
4 more sleeps! woah where did the time go?
Getting a little more sleep. spoke to a lovely midwife at CYH who came up with plan of attack, worked well for a few days (one night he slept through until 7.30am!!!) but ... he now has an infection of the nose... first doctor I went to was a bulk billed local dr who's indian (not racist but found they don't care as they see soooo many ppl a day) and he refused antibiotics. I couldn't cope with more crap sleep so i took to my 'regular' dr on other side of town who gave lach some antibiotics and he's a bit better. but the GOOD dr said that his teeth are days away so possibly bad sleep from that too. I've also got a viral infection so am on antibiotics too.
Have also changed lachlan to lactose free formula (i'm lactose intolerant) and he doesn't perk at all BARELY.... before he was doing it hours after feeds. so i think that's half of it.
we've sold the house and going to port lincoln mid january. can't wait!!! ah PARADISE.
Berrme - you lucky duck going to cairns. Enjoy your holiday! and I can't believe your little man has teeth AND holds self up. clever boy! lach sits great now, and gets on his knees and rocks - very cute. have caught him pulling cords out of sockets now a lot! freaks me out.
Sarebear - augh! sick babies are the pits. hope gets better soon.
If i don't talk before Xmas - hope you all have a GREAT one and new years!
xx
