Hello everyone, its kind of quiet in here at the moment.

Mel - Awesome that youve decided to go for a third bub, wish my DH would agree to that but no hope there. We have a subaru liberty. No chance of getting three seats in the back. Sorry.

Cass and Megan - wonderful to know that my DS is not the only one getting up at strange hours. I cant keep up with it. some nights he wakes 3 times, and others he wakes once. Poor boobs.

Cass - AWWW, sound like you're having a hard time with Oscar moving into the big bed. He still loves you just as much, but growing too and gaining independence. Good on him. Sounds like you get to enjoy lots of newborn cuddles in the not to distant future. :)

Megan - I havent read much about BLS and didnt do it with DD. What are you supposed to do?

Bee - I think tears arrive from about 6 weeks of age. You might like to ask your GP or the ECN

Budda is getting close to sitting up which I can't wait for. He is NOT interested in rolling at all and only plays with his feet if he is sitting up. I'm not in a hurry for the rolling yet though.

...... hmmmm there's been a few times in the past few days where Oskar has said he wants to sleep in his "old bed". Tonight I really had to steer him to his room. We've put Elijah out of the hammock and into the cot cos we weren't sure if he was trying to roll a bit or move more in his sleep and that was what was waking him. We moved Oskar at a similar age too. Anyway, I had to really try to explain to him that Elijah now needed his old bed as he was too big for his little bed and that Oskar had the nice big new bed (he has one from Ikea which can be short or lengthened as he grows, we've got it short - so it's more like a wide cot really) just the same as the car seats - Elijah got the old one and Oskar the new. Then I turned on the Tad frog (which is Elijah's and told him Elijah was sharing it with him if he wanted it).... he rolled over and went to sleep. I don't have a problem if he wanted to go in the cot, I'd put Elijah in my bed and DH in the spare lol. Any thoughts? Would it be a bad idea to do that? I kinda thought that he'd probably either want the new bed after 10 mins or so or the next night if he did go to sleep. Andy thinks it'd be setting up something bad if we did, that he might regress with it. He only said it after he saw Elijah in it the other day and he was only laying there, not asleep anyway. Sorry, that turned out a bit longer than expected.

Bee, I can't remember how long for tears now. I do know they don't have tears for a little while though. Also, they can be blocked as they should technically have tears now. I think you can gently massage the inner corner area of the eye to help this?? Your GP should be able to help you. I don't think they worry about it as a potential problem just yet though.

Nell, Elijah gets the bottom half rolled so he's basically on his tummy but the shoulder doesn't follow lol. Sitting, he can do in the bumbo but I think he's still a little way off doing that on his own. Funny though cos Oskar was almost sitting now. He may have had more practice though cos I kinda have to save Elijah a lot from Oskar's "loving" lol so I have to pick him up possibly more at times.

I'm so glad as this helps him out heaps as he suffers from reflux and needs to be upright a lot of the time. I'm still placing pillows around the back, as he throws himself sometimes if he looks up too quickly.

Cass - Personally I would stick with the bed situation you have now. Oskar made the move on his own but is obviously missing the closeness that he used to have to you. He'll get used to his bed soon and Elijah now needs his old bed (the cot). It doesn't mean you love him any less because he is in his own rom and own bed, he's just looking for that same feeling he's always had. I shouldnt talk though - I have always had beauty in her own bed and own room. I've found smells can help a big change as well. Didnt say that very well.....what I mean is you could give Oskar a worn tshirt of yours to take to bed so he feels safe in his new environment. Just a suggestion.

Nell, I went through it all with him last night and tonight he went into out room and went to the hammock and said, Elijah too big now, then touched the cot and said Elijah need old bed now and went to his new bed saying Oskar new big bed. So, that bit has helped but you could be right about the closeness. He has been a lot more cuddly with me lol. Thanks for your input, really appreciate it :)

This dust today omg HORRID! I went out to buy Oskar some summer pj's and when it's warmer weather we leave a couple of windows open and the upstairs door. OOOOOoooooh dear what a mess! I am really glad though that we didn't get it as bad as Broken Hill and Sydney, but still I spent hours cleaning it all up and I can still feel it a bit on the floor so will be on my hands and knees again tomorrow with wet paper towel I think. Poor Oskar wanted desperately to play out the back but I managed to get him to understand that he couldn't and my poor little Elijah, it was irritating him and he was coughing a bit and sounded like he was going to vomit a couple of times. Seems to be a lot better since I cleaned though. Nothing like a dust storm to force the spring clean into overdrive!! I've been doing things bit by bit but got really forced into more than I could handle on my own! Andy had a work thing and only just got home not long ago, so I had no choice and still had my normal "duties" to do too!! I'm stuffed lol.

Wow, Nell, sitting already! Have you spent a lot of time working on sitting because of his reflux? I always find it amazing how babies achieve all these 'milestones' at such different times and different orders.

Cass, I agree with Nell about leaving Oscar in his own bed. It sounds like you have already made that decision yourself anyway.

We have had an interesting week. Thursday night Byron woke up with a fever. He was really hot and miserable all day Friday and wouldn't eat anything (which is really not like him!). He was a bit better Sat, and then fine Sunday. The rest of us seem to have missed out thankfully.
My parents arrived from Cairns on Monday and on Tuesday the boys and I went down to Byron Bay with them. My brother lives down there. We were only going to stay 1 night but the dust storm hit on Wednesday and I decided not to drive back in such crappy conditions, so we just got back this afternoon. Edward was just delightful as always, but Byron is absolutely shattered... he doesn't sleep very well away from home... and is being a horrible little monster. Hopefully he will sleep for about 12 hours tonight so he is happier tomorrow!
Dad goes home tomorrow, but mum is here until Monday so the kids have a bit more grandparent time... and Clive and I might get some kid free time. :dance:

I think the dust must have been much worse down there as there isn't nearly as much dust on everything here at home as there is on my car. I agree Cass, it was horrible! I can only imaging how bad it would have been if you had breathing problems of any sort.

Anyway, need to get dinner on so I can get Byron to bed early, better go. Hope everyone is well.

Mel, I wish I could have a holidy *sighs*. Great to hear Byron is much better. That dust just sucked!

Just popping in quickly before heading to bed... weighed Elijah yesterday and with clothes he was 8kg on the dot. I can't believe he's that big already!! Oskar is now 15kg... little tyke started off at a mere 2.6kg..lol. He's been a terror today, the wind, it just sends kids nuts! I'm glad it was the weekend though cos Andy got to see what it's like when he's like that all day and helps them to understand what it can be like a day in my shoes..lol.

Byron has been a monster too. I am really hoping that he is a nice boy again once this windy/ dusty/ dry weather goes away!! I am going a bit batty. :rolleyes:

Hi All!

Just got back from the States last Wednesday, so am catching up on everyone's posts. Sounds like everyone is going onwards and upwards - I can't believe my little man is 5 months old already! The trip was pretty good - the flights were not too bad and Daniel coped with it all fairly well, which was great.

No teeth here yet, though we had some swollen gums yesterday (and a lot of crankiness). We've started solids, which is going ok. Bit messy and a bit hit and miss, but I guess it's all just practice?

Ok - still unpacking and cleaning up so will keep reading the posts and will post again soon!

Welcome back AnnaChas. Glad to hear the trip went well and Daniel coped well.

Mel. We had been practicing the sitting....but Beauty also sat at the same time - 21 weeks. Maybe I encouraged him to do it a bit more as I knew it would help with the reflux. He still throws himself backwards occasionally particularly if Beauty is playing nearby and moves suddenly - he tries to track her movements and throws himself off balance! Glad o hear Byron is feeling better.

Weighed Budda yesterday and he's 7.3kg, growing nicely. Nearly tripled his birth weight in 5 months!

Well things are lovely here. I'm coping so much better with 2 kids now and really can't remember life with only one any more....how quickly it changes. I'm loving hanging out with my children now and have relaxed a whole heap in the last couple of months. It has made everyones lives so much nicer. Ah

Heading off on holidays for a couple of weeks on the weekend - really looking forward to the break and a change of scenery.

Hi Ladies

Well just an update from the West. We finally had the appointment with our Physiotherapist who diagnosed Jacob with torticollis whiche has lead to him having a very flat head but we are doing what we can to improve his range of movement to the right. We then saw the Paedatrician yesterday he seems to think jacob either has a milk proetein intolerance or a structual abnormality of his digestive tract. so we are trying special formulas and if they dont help then a barium swallow (which could be interesting). He was very proud of how perisitant i had been in tring to help him and was amazed he had gained weight at all! He is now 7kg exactly. He also mentioned his skull was quite bad and he would consider surgically unfusing the scall and reshaping it but said the cranio-facio unit would not think it was severe enough. So have no idea what to do with that.

So back to see both in 2 weeks and until then just taking it one day at a time, though i have to admit its been tough working 30 hours a fortnight on broken sleep whilst having a husband that doesnt help as he works 6 days a week!

Sorry for the me post, i dont know how you mums of two do it. Im not planning on another one until this ones at school!! Cant believe little budda is Sitting already that is fantastic news, we have only just started rolling!

Well will try to do perssies next time oh and the doctor wasnt worried he had no tears said he may just be missing them genetically or they are large ducts and free draining.

Gee Bee, you are having a tough time! Hugs. Well done on getting Jacob to gain weight despite his digestion problems. I have another friend who's little boy has a milk intolerance, and he has gotten much better and put on lots more weight since he has been on solids. I hope that is all it is with Jacob!
I don't know how we mums of 2 do it either. :lol: Please don't assume that we all do it well. I don't know how working mums do it... Byron was nearly 1 when I went back 3 days and that was tough. My hat goes off to you, especially with all the extra stress you have at the moment. :clap:

Nell, Byron sat the bweek after his 6 month check. I remember feeling bad cause he couldn't do it, then he did a few days later. :p Edward is close, will probably be about the same time. I think he is going to crawl earlier though, he is already starting to move himself backwards and is spinning in circles on the floor. I wish he would just stay still!

Annachas, we are still waiting for some teeth to finally make their appearance here too. If they don't come soon Edward is going to gnaw his hand off. :lol: Glad you trip went well.

Well, Byron's behaviour has improved over the past couple of days, thank goodness! I ended up in tears on Tuesday afternoon cause he was just yelling at me constantly. I think it was a combination of lack of sleep, junk food that the grandparents kept giving him, and the crappy weather. Fingers crossed that the monster doesn't return for a while!! :pray:
I stood on a rusty peice of metal on Thursday and had to go and get a tetanus shot. I couldn't remember the last time I had one so I figured it was better safe than sorry. Now I know why the babies whinge after their shots! My arm hurts.;)

Bee - good luck with Jacob. Let us know how you go - well done on the persistence and weight gain too!

I have no idea how mums of more than one do it either. One is more than certainly enough - and this one sleeps well! Hats off to you ladies. Also - no idea how single mums do it.

No teeth yet here, but gums are swollen beyond belief and so we have a cranky baby most times. Oh well. Solids are going well. Daniel's a fan of the apple custard. Rolling is a bit hit and miss though. He still gets stuck on his arm and wriggles like a worm. It's amusing though. He is moving around a lot in his cot though, which is a pain as he gets himself un-blanketed and gets cold. Plus, I just went to check on him and he's rolled himself sort of onto his side, but his face was planted into the cot mattress. Had a mini heart attack as I thought that he wasn't breathing. We've even got those support cushion things against his sides so he doesn't roll over too much, but he somehow gets past those and ends up in a mess.

Back to work for me on Wednesday. It should be interesting. Daniel is in child care for 2 days, and DH and I work from home 1.5 days each. Work has actually been really good about it all, so that's made things easier!

Welcome back AnnaChas! We haven't started solids yet, I haven't really even thought about it lol. No teeth either and I'd say not any time soon. I think from memory Oskar was about 8 months with his first. Good luck with back to work :)

Bee, you are doing a WONDERFUL job with Jacob! With his head can he get one of those helmets to help reshape it?? I don't know the background on his head sorry :(

Mel, :hug: I ended up in tears the other day too. It just all got too much to deal with and Andy was away and J is being well... ummmm hmmmmm an ass! Then O was being the devils child :( E was waking every 1-2 hours again and I was sleep deprived too. This morning though Andy took the boys and I got to sleep until 10! It was wonderful.

Elijah is getting better with sitting but can't sit on his own and he rolls onto his tummy but his arm is still under him. Is that classed as rolling yet? Oskar never rolled lol. I also think that Elijah will crawl where Oskar was a bum shuffler. He does 360's on his back and loves playing with toys now. He's funny if you walk up to him his arms go straight up for you to get him.

When you say you don't how we do it with 2... I DON'T KNOW! lol. Last night though made it worth the pain. Oskar had Elijah in absolute fits of laughter. It was gorgeous and I was laughing so much. It was so nice :)

Oh and this is what I've now done to try to combat this behaviour we're all of a sudden having... Oskar now has 2 charts on the fridge.. one is "Good Behaviour" and the other is "Toilet". When he does something good (like good listening or being nice etc) he gets a sticker and for this time when he gets 5 he's allowed to get a surprise - like a matchbox car or something. The toilet one is trying to encourage him to do poos on the toilet lol. We started this today and have 1 sticker on good behaviour so far. It's a good thing to be able to say we need to stop now or we won't be getting a sticker! I don't like smacking but I got left with not much choice during the week just gone and it was not fun for either of us and it aggravated things at times too. I'm hoping that this will help things. I think he's entered terrible twos a bit late lol.

I am sorry I am so slack at posting, everyday there is a new post I'm in here reading but I never talk so I have decided to turn a new leaf and chat more.

All is going well here. Spence has been rolling since about 3.5months? Have to work out what date it was so I can write it in his baby book and he can sit for 30sec-1min has been able to since 4.5months
he also got his 2 bottom teeth the day before he turned 5months (can you believe I'm typing that??? our babies are that old already!!!!!) and he is just gorgeous!!! He sleeps about 9-10hrs at hight so is in bed at 6.30,7 and then feeds at about 4,4:30 he goes 3-4hrs during the day anad has now moved from his constant 1hr sleeps to up to 2.5hrs day sleeps monday he even had a 3hr nap!! but so might do 1 longer 1 1hr and then and 1.5hr nap, it is soooooooo lovely he also puts himself to sleep

He was usually always putting himself to sleep and then he had his 4month needles and then was teething and all of a sudden i realsied i was rocking him to sleep every sleep. I had triesd from when he was a baby to sleep him on his belly (Noah sleep like this and he slept sooooooo well like that) and he didnt want a bar of it but I tried it again and immediately he put himself to sleep he just looks around and puts his head down and he's asleep, within 5mims and if he cries at all i just put his dummy in and he's out to it!!! I looooooooooooooovvvve it and just is so helpful with Noah knowing that I don't have to leave him to his own devises and Spence is getting the sleep he needs

No solids here yet and no water just bm for Spence!

Jas, sounds like Spencer is the perfect child. :D I am glad everything is going so well.

Cass, I don't think Byron cares enough about stickers for a chart to work. :rolleyes: I will have to find something that he really wants... other than chocolate. :lol: I hope the chart works for Oskar.
We are getting all his wees in the toilet when we are at home now, but still no poos. He seems to hold on until he has a nappy on. I am getting closer to only 1 child in nappies again though. :dance:

Edward is sitting now too. He is a little wobbly but he can stay sitting up for a few minutes at a time... then he gets bored and tries to crawl. He is pushing right up on his knees now and is doing the backwards shuffle. He also spins in circles and wriggles to where he wants to go. He is waaay more mobile than I would like at this point! I was hoping he would stay in one place for longer so my job was easier. :p
We are having 1 big nap and 2 smaller naps during the day now, with about 3 hours between each one. Edward doesn't seem to want to get back to his 10 hour sleeps yet and is still waking me for a feed at about 3 or 4 am. I could probably just pat him back to sleep since he only feeds for about 5 minutes and he is asleep again. I might try it once we get past 6 months, hopefully he will start sleeping right through again.

Mel, Do you like Mel or do you like Melanie? He pretty much is the perfect child. He is such a wonderful sleeper now and so often when he goes down for naps I am so thankful to be able to try to get a few things done and am so glad he can self setlle etc and when he goes down to bed at night and I know I have my evening to enjoy being just me and not mummy its sooo nice and makes me so happy to have a good bedtime routine! Gorgeous ticker pic!

I feel silly calling myself Mel so introduce myself as Melanie, but pretty much everyone calls me Mel. Mel is good. :D I love knowing that once we get Byron to sleep (Edward is no trouble to get down) we have the rest of the night to ourselves. Adult time is so important!

Jas, WOW! That's awesome. Elijah goes between sometimes sleeping 5/6 hours at night to 2/3 hours...lol..... aaarrrghh.

Mel, I'm not sure if he cared too much to start with, but I think he's starting to get it a bit now. We had a setback and I took 2 back the other day lol.... so it's taken him 5 days now to get back to 3 stickers... 2 to go for pressie.

Tomorrow we're going to see New MacDonalds Farm show (Max and Milly), should be fun.

Mel, there's a Playtime playgroup at Bridgeman Downs apparently. Sneakysparkle goes to it... it's on 3 days a week but I'm thinking of going maybe Wed week if you want?? Closer than North Lakes for you too. What do you think?

I can't believe my little man is 6 months old now. :( Where has the time gone?
He started swimming on Saturday with DH. He looked like he loved it. Was a bit uncertain at first, but about half way through the session when DH was spinning him around in the water he saw me watching from the side, let out a squeal and lots of smiles after that. He's always loved his bath or the shower, so we were hoping he would love the pool just as much.

We have just started solids as well, about 1.5 weeks ago. As much as he looked like he wanted food, when it came to having his own he wasn't interested so I left it for a couple of days and when we started again he was all for it. We've had apples, sweet potato, pumpkin and pears and so far seems to like all of those. He was weighed during the week and is now 7.8kgs and 70cm. So he's dropped to 50th percentile for weight but up to 90th percentile in length and head circ.

No sitting or rolling here yet. When he's playing on his back on the floor he scoots around and can do a full 360 degree turn, but has no interest in rolling at all! Yesterday MIL told me he was 'slow' because he hasn't rolled yet. Needless to say we left soon after that because my tongue was about to drop off from biting it too hard!

Oskar never rolled. He didn't crawl either (even though my mother insisted that it would "hurt" him as he HAD to crawl for his brain to work correctly) until after he could walk which was after 15 months. He bum shuffled at around 8 months and rolling came much later... so I don't class that he rolled cos it was so "late" that I wasn't even looking for it anymore lol. He sat by about 5 1/2 months but Elijah isn't anywhere near that either. They're all different! I don't expect Elijah to start rolling around just yet either, it just happened that he worked out getting his arm out today and tried a bit later but got stuck and cried.

Geez parents/ in laws can be frustrating sometimes! Ignore them, Megan! A friend of mine had her MIL call her 5 week old son a blob because he was always asleep when she visited.:wall: That is what little babies do, duh.
And don't you worry either Cass, if Oskar can crawl now then his brain works just fine.

Megan, it is great that Noah likes the water! I have seen some kids at swim classes that just scream the whole time. The parents just look stressed. Both my boys like it as long as it is still water... they really aren't so keen on waves.:rolleyes: it makes trips to the beach a bit painful when neither child wants to go in any further than where the waves just splash your feet.

Cass, I was reading the northside playgroup thread yesterday. Wednesday is one of my days off so it sounds like a plan.

We had a shocker of a night last night. Edward woke me up every 1.5 hours until I finally gave him some panadol. He is still asleep now... it has been 5 hours. Why didn't I give him the drugs earlier????:doh: I really hope there is a tooth to show for it, or he is a couple of cm longer. lol. I wouldn't want to be woken up for nothing!:p
We are off to see Thomas and friends the stageshow at the entertainment centre this afternoon. I hope 90 minutes isn't too long for Byron! He can watch thomas videos for hours at home so we should be ok. ;)

Mel, sorry I did read your post the other day but forgot to come back....

Tomorrow, no we won't be going.... we've had an interesting week here! Wednesday night found head lice in Oskar's hair! Not really sure where he got them from but could only trace back to our normal playgroup the week before, yes a WHOLE week! He had all these little nits starting to grow :( UGH!! Bet now you're all scratching hahaha. Anyway, got them all I think.... we've found the odd tiny one and Andy found an egg last night but not sure if it was old or not cos we've just been combing through his hair each night in the bath. Then on Friday morn he was being feral and I felt his head and took his temp which was 38. Great... I think oh I'll see how he goes then thought oh hang on it's Friday I'll see if I can get into doc instead. Good thing too cos he had a REALLY bad throat infection. The thing is with him, you don't know until he gets the temp as he still eats. Anyway, by 3 that arvo he had a fever of 39.4 and he's been running a temp still of average 37ish.

Now onto Elijah... poor little fella has been getting a bit gunky in the eyes on and off since that damn dust storm.... so I thought, I'm over this let's take you to the doc and also he can check your throat whilst we're there seeing as you just can't successfully stop a 2 year old from being in the face of the baby lol. His temp 37.5...Verdict... conjunctivitis and yep, start of the throat infection!

I swear I own the local pharmacy now lol. Both boys on ab's. Oskar has been on nurofen and panadol since Friday and now cough med cos he's got a chesty cough to go with it all. Elijah has a little too so his must be breaking up which is good. I think I need to buy shares in Yakult too seeing as they're both having that also. Easier than Inner Health Plus and doc said does same thing...yay cos Oskar loves it.

Hmmmm did I mention the 16 yr old in there who is driving me insane?? NO respect except when he wants something. So I reckon that I NEED holiday lol. Any takers????

Long story short Mel... we won't be there lol... bugger though cos it's a really good one. Will definitely be going back though.

Im so sorry I've been superslack in posting, I always go to then Oliver cries or gets stuck on his belly or something or Sam wants something.. Never enough time to do anything lol. We've been good.. I cant believe Oliver is 6 Months old next week.. It only feels like he was born yesterday. He is rolling over all over the place.. Getting stuck here there and everywhere.. No sitting tho. He still is a bit wobbly in his head but he's getting there. When on his belly he has been getting up onto his knees for a few rocks then falling down again. Were also starting solids.. We've had banana, apple, avocado and pumpkin so far, just once a day. I found apple really played up with him he had really funny poos that were runny and mucousy and a little bit of blood.. I took him to the nurse and she said it was probably more gastro then apple. So i think we'll try it again in a couple of weeks.
I go back to work next week. Every Thursday and Friday. So not too bad. I work at a bank only 5 mins down the road so it was too convenient to say no as i dont think the position will be there when im ready to come back from mat leave.. I think they would have put me at morayfield or Caboolture which is about 25 mins from me. So i thought id go back for the peace of mind id be still at Bribie and it is only 2 days a week.. Still bit sad though. Oliver will be with his Grandma these 2 days so that makes me feel a bit better and Sam is already in Kindy those days aswell.. Its so busy with the two already i dont know how were going to be out the door by 7.45 every morning.. Im dreading it.

Well, Cass, sounds like you have had a busy time of it. I was actually relieved when you said you weren't going... I really needed a whole day at home to do stuff. I hope your boys are feeling better! I really hate conjunctivitis!

Sounds like things are going well for you, Amanda. That is great that your work will be so close and that you have a grandparent to look after Oliver! My parents keep talking about moving down here, I would really love it if they did! Sometimes you just need a relative nearby to load the kids on. :D I am sure you will enjoy the time with other adults, and it will just make you appreciate your time with Oliver more. Good luck.

We have had an interesting few days too. When I took Edward for his shots on Tuesday I mentioned a nappy rash thaty had appeared a couple of days earlier. The dr said it was fungal and so I got some special cream. He was a bit miserable and had a slight fever over the next couple of days which I just put down to teething and needles. Then the rash got worse and spread all over his body and I have finally realised that he has hand, foot and mouth disease. There are little blisters in his mouth and his bum is all spotty... but he is getting better. Unfortunately he will still be spotty and a bit grumpy for our flight tomorrow. :doh:
Anyway, off to Cairns tomorrow. I still haven't packed anything so I better get going. I just can't do it at the last minute now that there are kids travelling too. They need so much stuff!

Amanda, that's great! There are days (like today) where I'd have loved to have been at work rather than home. I love being home with the kiddies but sometimes it'd be a nice break.

Mel, Oskar had hand, foot and mouth last year. Only got one or two blisters luckily! It's HIGHLY contagious - the fluid in the blisters. I hope he doesn't share it with Byron! Have a great time in Cairns!!! I know what you mean about family being close by. We don't have that either but it sure would be nice sometimes just to have 5 mins.

Last night was a nightmare with Elijah *sighs*. He woke at midnight, fed him, back to sleep but then every time I put him down he'd wake 5/10 mins later until 2am! Then he woke at 4am and wouldn't stay asleep unless he was attached to my boob so that is how he slept until just before 6am when I really needed to move but I put him down and AWAKE so on the boob and asleep again aaarrrrggghhhhh. I don't know what is going on, if it's cos he's sick or what.... he's a nightmare sleeper compared to what Oskar was.

I'm feeling really hmmm deflated and like I'm not doing very well with the whole "mum" thing. I feel like all I do lately is yell - Oskar seems to have lost the art of hearing and he's really testing and pushing boundaries all the time with Elijah and I don't know why he just keeps doing it. He'll be so nice and thoughtful by giving toys to Elijah then 5 mins later he's hitting him or laying on him or something. I'm feeling out of control with how I'm dealing with it all. I don't want to yell but I feel it's all I do some days. I try all other avenues I can think of until I just snap *sighs*. I feel over it and don't want to do it anymore. Part of it is all probably to do with some degree of sleep deprivation cos Elijah really isn't a great sleeper, these days it's usually once or twice a night but only 2/3 hours apart, so I'm not getting good blocks of sleep. Then there's the whole being pg or BFing... I've been either pg, BFing or BOTH for 3 1/2 years so far. I really, really want to be alone sometimes. Andy was really good today and came home early. He said I just need a break but he can't take both the boys anywhere for too long because well Elijah kinda needs my boobs lol. So it's going to be at least 6 months before I get to have any block of time just for me. Whilst I love them and love being their mum (even though I feel I'm doing a bad job right now) I need to recharge ME!!!

Oh Cass, you pooooooooor thing! :hug: I know EXACTLY how you feel a few weeks ago Noah woke early and it wasn't even 6am and he had had 2time outs and I had said don't do that be gentle literally about 100times!

I was talking to a freind of mine who as a little boy 1day older than Noah who is also very active rough and tumble and she said the other week she was thinking if only she could just block her sons airways off just enough so he would pass out and she could dress him without complaint lol she was joking but it was so nice to know others go through the same thing, Noah often plays the drums on Spencer's head! He's scratched him and made his nose bleed once, by putting a little scratch at his nostril...playing the drums on his head with crayons!!

Will Elijah take a bottle if you expressed? or a cup? Maybe you could try just so you could go out even for a few hrs. Since Spence has been born I have really been remembering all the things i like outside of my kids...I like doing creative things so have been sewing clothes etc it really helps have time to be just me not mum or wife.

We started Spence on solids last thurs and he is going for it....crazy about food! He also has 3 teeth...not even 6months yet..not until wednesday. He has the 2bottom middle ones and hen on the top he has the second from the middle on the right hand side.

He can sit for ages now 15+mins and has been up pn his hands and knees for a while now too very cute

Jas, what is it about them playing drums on the head??? Oskar does that or he'll swipe his head as he runs past him. I keep telling him that Elijah will get big enough to do it back one day!

I haven't tried EBM. I have thought about it but I wasn't very successful expressing with Oskar, took forever to get just 20ml. I tried a little bit of avocado with Elijah he thought it was weird. I've given him raisin bread crusts to hold and he licked it like a lolly lol.

You know I don't even remember some things I like! haha I do like creative things and really want to do Oskar's scrapbooking album but I haven't got anywhere to set it up and leave it for now so that's why I haven't even looked at that yet. I need to be able to have an area but that area is not up to the task just yet. I am still moving stuff around and decluttering before I can even look at it.

Elijah was 6 months just over a wk ago now but no teeth and no sitting! He has rolled twice so 2 more times than Oskar ever did lol.

I did get my eyebrows waxed today AND my nails done :) Elijah was asleep so Andy took both boysfor a walk around the shops which was nice.

Aaahh girls, I think we are all in the same boat. Some days I am absolutely ready to throttle Byron because he just won't leave his brother alone! Drums on the head, poking in the eyes, pushing him over when he is sitting... he just doesn't seem to get how horrible he is being. I have to really make a conscious effort not to smack as it sometimes seems like the fastest way to get him off Edward, but I know it doesn't work, and that I feel bad afterward. :( Then he is beautiful and gentle again for long enough to stop me giving him away. lol.

Cass, Byron had hand foot and mouth last year when he was at Daycare. It was very mild, I can completely understand how people could have no idea that their children have it. He has had a blistery rash on his bum too, but it seems to be the only symtom he has gotten this time round. Clive has it though... he has been all miserable with blisters and a sore throat and headache. Men are terrible at being sick!! :lol:
You should try expressing, at worst you will find that it is pointless again, but you might find you have a much easier time this time around.

Edward is off his boob today. He woke up a few times last night but refused to eat, just went back to sleep. Then he only had a little bit this morning too. I was REALLY sore. I had to squeeze milk into a plastic container as I forgot to bring the pump and bottles up to Cairns with me. I got about 200ml out of one side... Clive was in hysterics watching me. It was like a shower. lol. He wasn't too keen on his solids either. I hope he gets over it soon!
On a brighter note he sat himself up from on his tummy this morning, and he is actually crawling. Only a couple of 'steps' at a time before flopping back onto his tummy, but crawling none the less. He will also get himself down into crawling position from sitting without falling on his face now. :D It makes me much less worried about leaving the room briefly.
We have been having a nice time. We have been to the beach and had a lunch without the kids. :dance: Went to Crystal Cascades earlier for a swim with the boys. It was really beautiful. It is really great going to the rainforest swimming holes with no other people around. It has been a long time since I have been here when it wasn't school holidays.


Anyway, better get going. Keep your chins up... apparently they grow out of it. ;)

I am so, so slack with posting ... something always seems to happen, and I'm knackered when I get back from work! It seems like everyone's little ones are all growing up and getting bigger! I can't believe Daniel is 6 months already. No visible signs of damage from having Dann and I as parents, which is always a bonus! :D Seriously though, it's gone by so quickly and Daniel's growth is unreal! He's rolling now and trying very hard to crawl, but he still hasn't got the hang of it. Sitting is going ok too, but he has a little leaning issues to sort out!

Jas - that's awesome about the great sleeping! We had a great routine and STTN (for about 8 weeks!), but there's nothing like traveling that ruins it! :doh: So now we're back to waking once/twice a night. We've had 2 nights where he STTN in the last 4 weeks ... urgh. I know I shouldn't complain, but we got so spoilt! Plus, he's lost his ability to self settle cos we had to hold him and rock him heaps in the hotel rooms we stayed in.

We've also been having a cranky baby - I think it's teething ... but the blasted teeth keep going up and down. I can't wait until those teeth finally make a freaking appearance!!! He's also off his food and crotchety so I'm hoping it's just a growth spurt and he finishes it quickly! He also had his shots the other day, and got a fever that night. Nothing as bad as after the 8 week shots, but still ...

Mel - lol. Hope you guys have a great time up there!

Megan - wow, swimming! It seems like one of those things that I think we'll get around to soon (not sure when though!) Glad he enjoyed it though! Daniel is also doing the scooting around on his back thing. I can't believe your MIL said that! How frustrating.

In me news though, for some reason the past few weeks have been so weird. I cry at a drop of a hat and snap at DS like you wouldn't believe. Poor bugger doesn't know what's going on. With this in mind, I went to see the doctor today and she's put me on Lovan to see if that helps. Has anyone taken it or heard of someone taking it before? I'm really hoping it works cos I am so sick of feeling like this. To make matters worse, DS is going overseas for work for 2 weeks and the thought of being by myself with the baby is doing my head in. It's so frustrating cos I really thought I had a handle on all of this. Anyway, watch this space for updates on whether the Lovan works of not. Here's hoping it does. I hate feeling like this.

Mel- Crystal cascades sounds beautiful, we went and did the Kondalilla falls walk with my 2 boys last weekend. I thought it was only going to be 200m to the little waterfall but it was like 2 kms or something and we had the nappy bag, small esky, the rocker and my handbag???lol.. dunno what we'd need with that.. eventually we made it to the falls and it was so nice, next time ill be taking my hugabub and just a sml backpack i think... soooo sore the next day. Going to the beach and lunch would have been so nice, i cant remember the last time i lazed around on the beach with Trev.

Cass- I would love to be able to scrapbook, I started one with Sam that never got finished, then poor Oliver, i havent even had time to put his photos into an album :(, Did try avocado with Oliver too and not sure if he was too fussed with it either.

Jass- How exciting, i cant wait until Oliver can sit up.. He gets stuck on his belly alot. Is there anything you did to help him along? I tried putting Oliver up against some pillows and stuff but he was just falling over laughing.. Thought sitting was just hilarious.

Anna- I went through a really bad stage a couple of months ago and was going to try lovan. I ended up just taking St Johns wort for a couple of months, I found it like took the edge off if you know what i mean. I felt alot more relaxed and able. I don't think you can breastfeed with it or take other medicines with it.. but worth a try if lovan doesnt work out.. Let us know how your going. I know how crap it is to feel like that.. :hug:

Teething sucks doesnt it.. I never noticed it with Sam. He didnt get his first tooth until he was 10 months old. But Oliver is drooling and cranky and getting a dose of panadol every other day at the moment. Poor thing.
Ive noticed Oliver has a huge sleep for his first day sleep, he wakes at like 6.30 and by 9.30-10 hes ready for a sleep and he goes for about 2-3 hours.. then has like a half hour nap at about 4.30 then he sleeps most of the night sometimes waking to have a change of nappy or a random bottle. Very lucky with night time. I was wondering if i should start waking him from his long sleep to even it out a bit? But then i dont want to break his night routine.

Any tips on how to get pumpkin stains out? and also how much are you giving your babies with solids.. Oliver has been having about 3 cubes.. but still seems hungry? I dont want to overfeed him though because he is quite spewy.

Had a bad morning today.. Put Oliver down for his morning sleep on my bed as usual with a pillow both sides and him in the middle of the bed.. About an hour later, i was in the loungeroom and i heard a full on scream and cry, Oliver had fallen off the bed :redface: I fully dont know how he got to the side to fall off, im never putting him on the bed again. I got really upset because Sam has never really bumped his head or fallen off anything. Oliver stopped crying after about 2 minutes and i rang the local doctor and asked what should i do and she just said to monitor him and see if he is acting different or vomiting or crying funny. He has been ok, eating and feeding normally and rolling over and seems generally happy now.. There is no sign of a bump or red marks on him though, i heard if there is no bump its bad?? I feel so terrible about it.. Poor darling would have gotton a big fright... Lucky he fell onto carpet and not tiles i suppose.

Oh, Amanda, stop beating yourself up!! And don't listen to anything about whether or not there should be a bump. I know how bad you must have felt... Byron fell off the bed when he was about this age, but he hit his head on the skirting board. I was a mess, but he was fine. As long as Oliver wasn't drowsy at the time, and he seems like himself then everything should be fine. Babies are very resilient! If I got upset everytime Byron hit his head I would be a complete basketcase... he is just sooooo rough. :lol:

Hi everyone. I've been SO mia. I'm happy to read all the goings on with your bubbys. My Lachlan just turned 6mths on the 30th. He's rolling over, sitting up and has one tooth. He's altogether too cute! I can't help but snuggle him and nibble on him. His brothers adore him too. He doesn't sleep that well. He was sleeping through the night but stopped that and now wakes up 2-3 times a night. I'm tired.lol

Well we finally have teeth. Both bottom teeth are coming through together, and since they cut Edward is sleeping again. The past 2 nights we have gotten through to 4am before he has woken me up. A big improvement on only 3 hour blocks!!
Edward is getting around the house at quite a speed now. I put up the gate to stop him getting into the kitchen and playing with the cat litter box and cat bowls but Byron pulls it down. :wall: I might have to get one of the ones that opens so Byron can get through but Edward can't.

I have got all the xmas stuff for the boys on layby. Byron is getting a trampoline! I am excited.:lol: Edward gets a swing and some other squeeky trucks etc. Now I just have to shop for grown ups... they are much harder. :rolleyes:

Anyway, hope everyone else is well, I need coffee so am off. :D

Amanda, that would've been scary. The good thing about them when they're little is they are usually fairly limp when they fall as they don't brace themselves so it's good in some ways... they don't tend to hurt themselves in ways they would/could if they braced. Really glad he was ok though and it's not your fault!!

Andrea, I know what you mean about sleeping. Elijah really is a shocking sleeper and especially compared to what Oskar was. He was sleeping really well for a bit between 2 and 4 months but then went REALLY bad. I'm lucky if he goes 5/6 hours... the usual is 3ish which means my sleep is about 2 - 2 1/2 blocks more often than not and only getting 5/6 hours completely. Last night he woke 10, 12:45, 2:15 then we had a good block until 5:30 and amazingly enough I got him back to sleep until 7:30.. but was up to Oskar at 7....so blah lol. I find it hard with a toddler too though as I can't have a nap during
the day when Elijah has sleeps.

Mel, I can't put anything up to keep them out of the kitchen because of the design so hopefully Elijah learns as well as Oskar did with it. I'm so afraid of him trying to pull himself up by using the oven door handle or something.

Well there's now only 9 days and my little man will be 7 months!!! How did that happen!!!????? He still has no teeth - but Oskar didn't get any until around 8 months - no solids, not interested, he's "licked" a couple of things but doesn't care. Will push up on his arms if on his tummy, but again really couldn't care lol. He rolls from side to side and does 360's on his back and gets his body over onto his tummy but usually has both hands stuffed in his mouth at the same time so doesn't roll all the way over haha but can do it as he's done it a couple of times. He's definitely bigger than Oskar was at the same age though and is even starting to get too big for some of his size 0 clothes... well not too big but they certainly fit a lot better than they did a month ago. He's way too cute though and gives beautiful little chubby arm cuddles around my neck. His face lights up and he gets so excited (his whole body shows it) when he sees you coming to get him and he reaches up and when I pick him up his arms wrap around...I LOVE IT! :D

I love bubby cuddles, and the joyous facial expressions too, Cass. Does Elijah suck on your face when you get cuddles? I end up completely covered in slobber, but I love it anyway.

Amanda, follow Oliver's cues... just feed until he doesn't want any more. Byron ate like a machine, but Edward is not as consistent. I have been giving him bits of our dinner to chew on while we eat and then he has some mashed food. He eats lots at dinner time, probably about 150g, but at breakfast and lunch he will eat anywhere between 50 to 100g.

I just wanted to share my joy. Byron just did his first poo on the toilet. :dance: He ran full pelt from his bedroom and just stuck his bum up over the edge of the toilet... lucky the seat was up! It looked rather funny, but I am hoping it was the breakthrough. We have also had 3 accident free nappiless outings in the last 3 days. I can see the light at the end of the nappy washing tunnel. :lol:
Edward is pulling himself up now. I have had to start keeping the side of his cot up as when I go in there after his sleeps he is either sitting in the middle or standing holding onto the railing. I am thinking that he might actually be taking a few steps by xmas. He seems to be doing everything at the same time of year as Byron did it... he is just 2 months younger. :rolleyes:
I have also been filling in daycare enrolment forms. The boys will start 3 days a week in mid January. A week before I go back to work. I still don't know which days which makes it difficult, but I will be aiming for either Monday or Friday off so I always have a long weekend.
Clive and I are going out tomorrow night while our neighbour babysits. It is a work thing for Clive, but the official stuff (that I get to dress up for :dance:) only goes from 6.30 to 8. Then we are all going for dinner at Char Char Char and the boss is paying.:clap:

Edward needs a sleep, better go.

Hi Everyone! I've been majorly MIA and I'm sorry! Things have been hectic - have house on market and working out our seachange move to Port Lincoln YAY.

I'll write some personals later - lachlan is having a bit of a tanty.

Wow that so many babies are crawling(??!!) and sitting up. Lachlan does neither. he's been rollling from back to front for AGES now and wants to move but 'swims' his legs rather than actually moving. he gets v frustrated and cracks it BIG TIME. driving me bonkers - think we'll be happier when he can move. No teeth yet, and can't sit up for very long.

I think he's teething though - he was sleeping BEAUTIFULLY for a month and now he has screaming matches during the night. doesn't want a bottle, just wants to be held and rocked. sometimes the second i lay him down (even in bed with me) he SCREAMS again. I've had stuff all sleep the last few weeks - lucky for 4 hours last night. What is going on???? is it teething. I've given him baby Nurofen and that seems to help (?? - unsure as doing EVERYTHING i can to get him to sleep).... any ideas. Help, help help :'( i'm soooo tired.

will be back on later today for personals when he has day nap (they're not too bad - max 1.5 hrs twice a day).

Ok... Mel, nah doesn't suck on my face, but does my neck and shoulders.... then shares very lovingly slobbery hands which get rubbed anywhere and everywhere... gross!! lol. He's just so cute though. YAY for the poo in the toilet!! I soooooooooo get that. Oskar still won't do it, says he needs to but then doesn't do one lol. Sits there and tells you that you can hear it when it goes into the water... I think Andy told him that. Wow Edward is powering along! I have lazy boys ;) Joshua was doing things like that at this age but not these 2, but that's quite ok with me. How was getting all prettied up and dinner?? Sounds great!

Sach, I'm jealous of your seachange!! Sounds wonderful. We're debating what to do re: the house at the moment. We don't know if we should sell it and buy bigger (land wise say like minimum 1 acre) or keep as investment and buy bigger or stay and do kitchen and replace above ground pool with inground and do a kiddy play area (there's already a proper wood cubby) with swings and cool stuff. With his sleeping, he's possibly all wired in his mind when he stirs... trying to learn new things and it plays on their minds apparently and can really disrupt them. Not fun but can only suggest that it's one of those things we just have to ride out.

Ok, well both the boys have colds... yet again! Man I'm over it! Peeved too cos only a week ago I finally had Elijah sleeping 5/6 hour block at night and last night we were back to every 2 hours!! AARRRGGGHHH!! Elijah can sit now yay :) Still falls over, but can sit for quite a while. So, that's about 2 months behind what Oskar did..but he sat early. Also, I think that Elijah has probably had less practice and time from me to help him get there as it has to be shared and divided between them. He still can only roll onto his tummy and then complains when he can't get back over lol. No signs of moving, crawling, or anything like that at all. He stands very well though and loves it when you have him stand on your legs holding his hands or standing on the floor between your legs holding his hands.. he chats and carries on, very funny. He's quite a mummy's boy but luckily will go and be happy with Andy if I'm out of sight and just want 5 mins.

Oh and last week when he had his needles he weighed in at 8 1/2 kilos. He has cankles ;) lol god love him.

oh oh ... nearly forgot... I am now an aunty... by blood for the first time and not marriage!! My bro had a little boy on Friday (13th) Nov. Scotte, 7 pound 10, 54cm long (long bub) and head 35cm...emerg c/s but all good :) He's very cute too.

The last week Ive been struggling to cope with my DD, wont talk about it much here as she's nearly 2.5 and this isnt the right forum.....thanks Cass for your post in the other forum. I really appreciate it.

DS is doing really well. He is such a happy little fellow and full of laughs and smiles. He's been sitting for awhile now, but is not interested in rolling at all. He is starting to push himself backwards (which is what DD did prior to crawling) so maybe he will crawl and miss out on rolling altogether. Loves solids and still b/f every 3 hours during the day, but starting to get some sleep between 10.30 and 4ish in the morning. Also in the process of unwrapping the little mite at sleeping time. Starting with day sleeps and will consider unwrapping for night sleeps later. It's just getting too hot!

Mel - it sounds like youve got your hands full already. Awesome news about number #2's on the loo too.

Congrats on becoming a 'real' aunty Cass. Very exciting
