Leyla - good to 'see' you back! Jack is crawling, wow! Baxter gets quite a bit of height on his arms when on his tum, but is nowhere near crawling. Hope you get a bit more sleep soon. :hug:

Janine - thanks about the info regarding the mattress and bacteria, I did know that we had to get a new mattress for number 2 baby.

BW - I appreciate your opinion, we have a BabySense monitor which eases my mind somewhat about not breathing. I guess my question was more about how to get a rolling baby to sleep...

Hello to Nettie, mgm, Lisy , Nessa and everyone else.

Us - Baxter had his first swimming lesson yesterday, he loved it! There were 6 other babies and mumma's in the class. He had immunisations and a weight check yesterday too, 7.010kg. Not much else going on, DH and I might go to Perth on Friday for the Home Show. We are currently building, rendering has been done on the outside and hopefully the gyprock will happen before Christmas.

Gee girls, I alwasy feel so ...inadiquite... because Hunter is so far behind all your bubs. He still is not rolling, but this morning, while DH was holding him in sitting position on his lap, he actually stood up by himself, holding daddys hands. (that's NOT being pulled up!!!!) His legs are abit week, but he got there! Couldn't believe our eyes! Maybe he will be one of those babies that doesn't crawl, but goes straight to walking.
Off to WA this arvo.... Wish me luck for the long flight. Hunter has been so cranky lately, I hope he doesn't whinge the whole way. We think the teeth are on there way. After reading your posts through the week, I tried him on rusks, and he loves them. Have had to stop all his solids except the rice, as he has broken out on exma all over his body. We have to figure out what he's reacted to...

Every baby is different, plus Hunter was a prem, don't be worried.

we have like a safe t sleep in our cot to actually stop Benjamin rolling around.
The one we use is ALOT cheaper than a safety sleep and is actually a goldbug safe changer, but with the straps extended it goes all the way around the mattress.
It clips up around his waist and he cant go anywhere, we actually got it though cause of his reflux wedge, he scoots down the bed otherwise!!!

LisyLee just quickly, did the eczema start before or after you started rusks? They have wheat in them it could be that.

We've been lucky, no reactions to anything...but we've taken it slowly....one new food every 3-4 days....check for a reaction in that time, and if nothing, then the next one...its worked well!

Just a quick one...how much water are your kids drinking?

Benjamin has always been offered boiled water during the day, first in a bottle when he was little, then at 3 months when we started solids, we started with a cup.

In the past couple of days he's really been skulling the water.
Tonight with his tea he drank over 20ml...almost 30!

He's still drinking his bottles and stuff, but I just wondered if I should be concerened at the amount or water he wants...its like he's dying of thirst sometimes!

BW - Liam's never really taken to the water. I must try harder so that he's ok with it for the heat of summer (we don't have or want aircon).

Liam had his 6 month imms today. Cried but seemed ok shortly after. He's been go-go-go all afternoon and is now utterly exhausted and very grizzly. I hope we're not in for a bad night!

He's also got some ecxma (sp?) behind his ears... poor thing. He now weighs 7.2 kgs.

We did our needle on tusday and omg i have freaky baby, she didnt even cry!! but has been grizzle bum ever since

we are now have 3 meals a day, toast for breaky, youghurt for lunch and fruit for dinner, we try veggies b4 fruit but have been very unsuccessful

Mj is almost crawling, little lazy bum, we are great at doing circles and heading backwards

So much going on at my house atm, we are painting and it goes on the market end of next week, cant wait for the new house to be built and fished arrghhh nice brand spanking new house!

I don't think you're meant to prevent them from rolling into a more comfortable sleeping pozzie, are you? Is it just concern that they might suffocate or something?

I agree about the rusks, they are a high reaction food. Wheat and dairy. I wouldn't put wheat or dairy near a baby under the age of 1 even if they were the healthiest bubs on earth. They aren't good for the system. So try removing the rusks and see if there is improvement. If not, let me know and I have some other ideas.

Ci is mobile, creeping they call it, often backwards. Not quite crawling but he is days away from figuring it out I reckon. He got his new mattress today. DD has natural latex and organic cotton mattress and so do we, now Ci has a whizz bang mattress that has a coconut shell core and eucalyptus something something cover... cool bananas. Now to figure out how to work it, any ideas?

This is the predicament. He naps in the cot beside our bed and also goes into it at night until about midnight, the feed around then he is brought into our bed. I can't co-sleep the rest of the night, although I have been. I'd like it to be like DD was, on the mattress beside us (we'd all go on the floor for the time being until he is ready for the toddler bed we have), so we'd be in like a massive bed, but it would actually be his own little mattress beside me. But we don't want to use the foam mattress again now we have the good one.

If I had the money, I'd have two good mattesses, one for the cot, and one beside me. But we only have one. So one of them has to be the current foam one, either that, or I ditch the cot altogether. Essentially, he'd have the two beds in our room, the cot to keep him contained when he sleeps alone (naps, etc) and the mattress beside us. I'm afraid to ditch the cot, although DH would like to, because I'm not sure if he will fall asleep well without it. Currently, I put him down wide awake and he goes to sleep. I'd hate to mess that up; he might not do that if he has a whole whack of new freedom to roam the room, esp as he is about to become mobile.

Ack. Not sure how to do it, but I want to cosleep, but not THAT close. And I want the cot too... but not a foam mattress. I guess I'll have to use the foam mattress for one of them... which one?

Sheesh, that was a big ramble... sorry.

Just to clarify, we use the "seatbelt" as we call it, to prevent him sliding down the mattress (he is halfway up the cot, because he has a reflux wedge), he never tries to roll over completely as he likes his tummy, but he can move enough to turn his head and body side to side to adjust if you get what I mean....hard to 'splain!

Benjamin his going well with his foods, he's on weetbix for brekky, toast and vegies for lunch, and vegies for tea.
We were gonna start with yogurt this week, but he has an ear infection and is on amoxyl and we aren't going to introduce anything new til we make sure theres no reaction to he medicine.

he still (the little slacker) hasn't got the commando crawling thing sorted...he gets on his tummy, puts his arms by his side, and kicks and flaps like crazy!! He actually inches forward a little, but it must me soooo exhausting...he gets frustrated then rolls over...he's rolling around well though, I have actually come into the loungeroom a couple of times and had to look for him cause he's moved so far from where I left him!
I'm sure he'll get there.
He's got 2 teeth now...and I have a feeling (given that he had an ear infection a week before his first tooth, and he now has ANOTHER ear infection) that there may be another one or two in the way soon.

Hey girls, we're back.
Well, It's not the rusks, we started them before the rash came up, and still using them, rash is gone. We have no history of wheat, dairy or any other intollerances in either family, so I'm hopefull there. Anyway, he LOVES the rusks. We buy "Bellamy's Toothypegs". All organic, etc.
We are noth sure if it was actually eczema. I think it may have been a heat rash. It got worse on the first day in WA, but it was also 30 deg and raining, Hunter had never experienced anything over 20. But as the weather cooled his rash disapeared. We even got to the beach, and the little man got to go skinny dipping. (fully suncreamed!!)
We tried him on sweet potatoe tonight. Never seen him spit out anything so fast. Not even his reflux med goes that quick, and he HATES that! So we will try it again in a week or two. Maybe pumkin.

Hunter is also a very happy back sleeper. But MUST have his sleeping bag to sleep properly.
Still no rolling. But his legs are getting so strong. I really think he will walk before he crawls.

BW - Hunter doesn't drink ANY water. Should he?? He is BF. I thought that was enough.

As for the flying... As the flight over was after bed time, he slept the whole way:angelic:. but on the way back he was grizzly, and screamed most of the way from Melb to Hobart.:redface: We also both have ended up with colds :cold: due to the changes in the weather, as well as hayfever from allergies, and lookes like Hunter has the same allergies as me. Poor little tike. Sneezed and snuffled the whole time we were there.

sounds like you're all doing well. i'm still in the land of severe sleep deprivation but otherwise all's fine. no teeth, but dd has discovered how to crawl backwards (not all that helpful, she's very frustrated by it!).

well this is just to say hi and i'm still around - will do a proper post over the next couple of days.

Lisy, you're right, breastfed babies don't need any extra water, esp if they are fed on demand. Offer more during the hot season. Our water is so full of ***** anyway, better to give them the perfect structured water found only in water from frozen mountains, food and breastmilk.

I wonder about the fluoride about to go in our water up here, and the formula fed babies!! Just craziness, I'm SOOOO mad about the fluoride thing, but that's another matter, but concerning the babies on ABM, holy cow, that's just not cool, not cool at all. Mass medication, woo woo, yay, like great, thanks gov, like I can't figure out how to get fluoride supps if my family needed it like any other bloody mineral. Calcium is much more important than fluoride, maybe we should petition the gov to put that into the water. Oh, and some asprin, we could all use that, esp old people who get strokes and stuff, yeah?

MGM, I am still occasionally in the land of sleep dep. Ci likes to wake for an hour or two some nights. Feeding him would get him back to sleep (sometimes!), but I won't do it anymore because that was the cause of all our troubles. I have to feed him on a schedule at night, unfortunately.

In other news, I put the foam pad on the floor, his good one stayed in the cot. He slept on the pad after midnight, put up many fusses, probably about being so far away from me (poor sod, a whole arm's length away :rolleyes:). But I need to sleep, I can't contort myself all night like some cosleepers, I guess I'm just no martyr. Turns out I don't get sleep anyway cos of the fussing and trying to comfort him in ways other than he'd like.

He's 7 months on sunday. Freaky weird wild crazy berko madness. Never thought I'd make it past the half year mark. He is an absolutely beautiful looking baby though. And he has a lovely nature, he's known as having a "warm smile". Still big, but his growth has slowed considerably. His thighs are catching up to the rest of him, good ol' thunder thigh man. I adore him. He drives me crazy, literally, as he is a high needs baby, and he sleeps for crap, but oh dear God I love him so much my chest aches sometimes.

Fire isn't it so terrifying how much you can love someone?!!
I am the same with BJ, drives me crazy occasionally, but good lord I love him to death.
He (well and DH of course but in a different way) is my entire world...he's just a joy....
I have had to make arrangements for him to go to my old work on monday (child care) while I go to the dentist for my wisdom teeth...even the thought of that is tearing me up sooo much at the moment!

Good solution for the co sleeping...have you seen those co-sleeping beds that you can get? they kind of have 3 sides on them....hard to explain really (which doesn't make it easy for you to know if you've seen them!)

They are called My Little Bed, we are borrowing Lee:-)'s ATM, just trialling it until we buy our own.

Not much happening here, Baxter loves his sweet potato and broccoli. Sleeping most nights from 8.00pm til 7.30am. DH has a week off next week so we are high-tailing it to Perth. I have DH's aunt wanting to babysit so we are going out for Melbourne Cup.

Not much to report here, Bj will have yogurt today, and is going to child care (my old work, so he's more likely to be playing in the office with my boss that anything), for a few hours on Monday as I have to go to the dentist, I think..actually I KNOW I need my wisdom tooth removed...I can barely talk at the moment, and can only chew on my left side, the right side is being all cut up right at the back of my jaw, by my wisy....
So my boss has Bj booked in and they'll have him til I'm done...could be half an hour (for an assessment then booking in at a later date...or, fingers crossed, she may pull it out on the spot!).
Better go...DH step dad is comging to visit (DH mum still hasn't met BJ, but his step dad has been a few times...AND they (mum and sd) are separated...go figure....the one who is no relation what so ever has seen BJ a few times...the blood relation (bj is the first grandchild too), hasn't met him...
