hi girls... um ...can i just say a big Sorry? I guess I've been a bit hormonal lately. You didn't deserve that outburst. Any of you. Nor was it directed at anyone in particular. I really do appologise if you thought I was having a go at you Fire. No excuses really, but I had a really bad week, and I was imagining everyone sticking daggers in my back.
I read your story Fire. You aren't the only one who has had a bad year. I haven't told you even a fraction of what we've been thru with Hunter. But I'm not going in to that as I didn't come on here for sympathy, but to say "Sorry". I'm A b*tch some times. I don't mean it, nor do I mean to be. Please accept my apology, as it is sincere.

Oh lisa, no worries :hug: I went a bit overboard cos I think the hormone thing is catching. Plus, I'm a rambler... heh, no sh** Sherlock. I shouldn't have reacted but it's typical of me to blame myself.

I've also only just managed to kick the PND at last. Part of the reason I changed my name. Wanted to start fresh. But had a bit of a relapse last week. I get a bit paranoid, and read things that arnt there in to things people say.

I guess I've always felt like a bit of an outsider here, because Hunter is technically only 6 months not 8. I've tried so hard not to get jealous. most of the time it's worked, but during afore mentioned episodes I do get a bit narky. Also, the feeding routine you described Fire, is similar to what I always planned. But never turned out like that. I wasn't going to go back to work for a while, but with the business, I was back at work after 8 weeks. Full time. With hunter by my side, as there is no child care in our town, and we have no family or friends on this side of the country to help out. So I never have the time to cook the food for him, even cooking for us is a challenge. I have 1 hour per day, between 8pm and 9pm when my hands are free. I usually spend that on the comp. I guess reading about you doing what I wished I could just set me off.

I can totally relate to the paranoia & being jealous. For instance : you're still breastfeeding... I wished for that. I couldn't know my boy would be born with a cleft palate which would change every idea I had about being a mother! Lucky for me, I have a wonderful support network (including an awesome DH) which helps me feel like I've done and am doing all I can to help my boy.

See - there I go on a rant! ;)

I had planned a natural, drug free birth. Afterall, my baby would be perfectly healthy. Insted I got an emergency Cesaerian at 31 weeks, a week or so in NICU and endless weeks in Special Care. Baby was healthy, It was me. I was stuck in hospital having blood transfussions, and trying to get my kidneys to work again.
Yep. life is frustrating. We just never seem to get what we plan. But so long as we have happy babies, thats the main thing. I think we should all have a rant. And be there for each other.

Hi all

Ive been MIA too...partly CBF, and partly cause my world has expolded of late!

Mum had an accident and broke her leg, so Benjamin and I were in Geelong looking after her. Then we came back, and the next day DH ran out of fuel on his motorbike on the freeway, so we had an emergency dash out to fix that (he's been monitoring how many k's per tank he gets, and its been 300 constantly for 8 weeks...then he ran out at 260...go figure...

Then Tuesday night my sister finally came home from the UK...and of course we went to surpise her at the airport, but for the first time ever, Benjamin didn't do what I had hoped (which was go down to bed as usual t 6pm, and we'd wake him at 8:30 to go to the airport....nope....teeth got the better of him and he wouldn't settle).

So we trot off to the airport to meet the plane (due in at 9:40), which was delayed til 10:20....then, as the plane landed...the airport lost power (someone had cut through a major cable..as you do).

So not only were we in darkness...they couldn't process passports or put people through customs.

FINALLY at 12:25 Auntie Namm appeared through the cutoms doors (minus the luggage, which arrived 10pm wednesday night by courier).

And all the while, my little man was hanging about in his baby bjorn enjoying the world in general...lots of cuddles and tears (well, from my sis and me anyway, Bj was happy as Larry) later, we sat with mum (in her wheelchair), Dad and DH for a chat.

Then it was home to bed (we got home at 1am and Benjamin was asleep at 1:30, til 8am, then it was in the car and off to Geelong for the day with Auntie Namm (Deanne).

Today was meant to be a smooth one, big sleep in the morning, out to harvey norman to make a photo book for Auntie Namm for Christmas, then home for big arvo sleep, off to my old work for the Christmas picnic then home to bed....but NOOOOOOO.

We get to harvey norman and mu NEW usb stick was corrupt....come home, burn the pics to cd, back to HN, load the pics...get halfway through the book...machine crashed...start again...same thing happens...change machines and 3 hours later we leave Hardly Normal with the promise that the book will be ready before Deanne goes back in 3 weeks....
THEN it was off to the picnic...make an appearance, hand BJ round to everyone who wanted to cuddle him, then home for tea and bed...and now, he's sound asleep!

What a week so far, and its not even Christmas!!!!

Holy carp, BW!! I'm exhausted just reading that.

MS Facebook is perfectly safe, my DH is very security conscious, and if he uses it...its all good!!!

BW - Wow! I hope your Mum is recovering well. My sister flew in yesterday from London, she hasn't seen Baxter since he was less than 2 weeks old, so yes, lots of fun!

As for us - Baxter has now fully weaned and drinks 4 x 180ml bottles a day. Other FF's, how much does your bubba drink? He has yoghurt for breakfast (full fat Jalna, I would be sooo fat if I ate this stuff!), veg for lunch and fruit (usually apple) for dinner. He's not so hot on meat and I'm not really pushing it either. Just getting ready for Christmas, going to my parents then a beach holiday for a week. Wish us luck, we are in a tent for 7 nights!!

Fantastic!! I have DH's parents sending it over to us. Haven't seen it yet, but it's the same photo we used on our xmas cards this year.

Ci is feeding (milk) more at night than through the day, and I think it is because of teeth. I have seen several times now people saying that happens because it hurts to feed but at night they don't notice as much due to tiredness. Dunno. I do know, however, that he is teething very badly, those top two front teeth, and has been for a month now. I may have mentioned (too tired to check) but he bled a bit while the teeth at sides of the top two came through, blood on our shoulders and all over his bed. I don't recall my daughter teething this badly. He bats at his ears, which are covered in sores from him kind of scratching them, and is just so uncomfortable.

Well, I think he feeds more at night. Most feeds during the day are less than five minutes. He has always been fast, but he's getting faster. His night feeds are the same though cos he is so sleepy he just stays there until I remove him, or sometimes he just rolls away and goes back to sleep. So he slept through the night and since teething he wants night comfort again and it built up to four feeds a night! Oddly, I'm ok with it. I think cos we're so close to a year now, and that's when I'm going to start night weaning. At this stage that's the plan anyway. I'll put it off as long as I can, but at least at that age I'll be where I can night wean, if I choose to. Which is something to look forward to next year. My friend offered a cup of water when her son was a year old, and he gently night weaned like that, which sounds good. Ci loves his cups of water, too. Dr Jay Gordon has a "night weaning and the family bed" article that is kinda gospel for cosleepers, I'll have to look into it more closely also.

Why were you in the paper, Lisa? Cool! (well, if it's a good reason that is lol)

Wrapping pressies here and thinking about putting up the tree for my six year old. She doesn't seem to care much as nana downstairs has her tree up that she helped decorate. But we need somewhere for Santa to put her stuff, eh. :lol: Nana bought Ci some stuff, but we didn't get him a brass razoo. He won't know the difference and this may be the only year we can skip it before he'll notice.

I'm not sure if I'll get back here before the day so merry christmas to all those who celebrate it, happy solstice to those of that bent and happy Thursday to the rest of you!

We only got Liam one tiny stuffed toy for him to open tomorrow (the rest of the family celebrate Xmas, so we must 'play the game' for the sake of consistency - but we had our special day on Sunday - Summer Solstice) - and that's it. He'll get so much other crap that if we joined in he'd get too much and be overwhelmed...

Fire: Good luck when the time comes for weaning...we've been so lucky, Bj has done that himself. Even now, he's cutting his bottles down, a full one before bed (about 6pm), half - full one at 7am, and usually a little bit before his arvo sleep (could probably not give it to him and he wouldn't notice, he's only having between 30 and 80ml anyway).
He loves his water with meals though, got the straw thing down pat (has had for a while...apparently people find this very unusual..not sure why!), and loves his food!

In our world, we finally popped out tooth number 3, have been hectic as all get out, but things are slowing down now.
My sister heads back to England on tuesday very sad....and she won't be back for Benjamin's first birthday, being in only 16 weeks (give or take), she won't be able to get time off, plus, her boss is having a baby in feb/mar and has 2 other kids already (Deanne is a nanny) so theres no way.

My mum's leg still has no plaster (which is kinda good cause she would have needed a full cast) cause of the swelling in her sprained ankle, but she's doing ok with it.
We are going down tomorrow for my Dad's birthday, and I'm taking mum and my sister shopping first...we are hiring mum one of those electric scooter type things that they have in shopping centres, we're gonna put Bj in the baby bjorn on her front and away we go...(Im secretly hoping I can have a turn of the scooter!).

Our trip went great - Liam flies really well. No trouble at all! He even slept through the landing on the way there, and on the take-off when we left!

He loves the pool - and it made him very tired (a plus for us!). In fact, he slept a lot in Qld.. must be the weather!

I've uploaded a few new photos - including two which show his new haircut!

Just popping in to say g'day.
Life foe us has returned to normal.
DH is back at work now, so no more holiday time for him for a while.

Benjamin is commandoing all over the place now, but still reverts to rolling now and then.
Tooth number 3 is here and 4 and 5 are soooo close.
Though, in saying that, number 3 was sooo close for about a week and a half before it arrived, so I'm not holding my breath!

Lisa, what is your facebook name? I spend my little online time there usually.

Ci is walking. He is very very wobbly, and is mostly just standing and bouncing, but he is taking the odd steps here and there, usually if we're on the grass where he knows he can count on a soft landing. I can't believe it. He started recently squatting and then just pushing up with his legs from that into standing without holding on to anything, and it kinda snowballed from there. He barely crawled! He was in a mad rush to walk though, it was all he focused on, it was driving him bananas that he couldn't just get up and walk.

One day when he was 8 months old, DD and I were playing on the floor and DS was playing nearby also and I turned to see where he was and gasped in shock. It actually gave me a real fright... he was standing just behind me, stock still with his legs apart like a cowboy, arms by his side, with this calm look on his face. I heard DD quietly say, "Oh my God..." I can't convey how spooky that moment was, and I don't even know why it was spooky; I think it was the calm look on his face to be honest, like for a moment it wasn't my son but this old soul looking through me. Plus the fact that an 8 month old was standing, that is spooky on its own. Something tells me he is on a mission, this young lad, and I'm in for some trouble. (like he hasn't already given me loads of that!) I'll either find three 6's on his scalp or he'll sprout a halo but I don't think he's neatly in the middle. :lol:

Today was really cute cos he figured out how to clap, so I'm sitting on the toilet, (heh, it's all in the details, eh?) and he's in the hall in front of me and stands and starts clapping himself. I cracked up and he kept looking at his hands like they were working on their own.

Nine months is a great age. I love it, it's so much fun. I HATED the first six months, boyoboy, so glad that's gone and I'm NEVER doing it again. Got the husband nutered anyway so it's rather impossible. :lol: Woot.

Has six teeth through, those top middle two were complete hell, but once they were through, he started sleeping again. They have been giving him grief for over two months! He has gotten restless again though, as those last two bottom ones are on their way. The second year of teething is much easier as I recall. It doesn't mess the sleep up as much.

He is really clingy at the moment, and makes me want to buy that book "the wonder weeks", to see if this stage is a wonder week with the three C's of crying, clingy and whatever the heck the last one is.

Is anyone else having screaming problems? Happy screams, but ear piercingingly horrific, and they go on and on. Can't wait until he moves past that little discovery.

Yay Janine... walking! I couldn't help but have a giggle at the 'old soul' moment. I could almost hear the 'high noon' music...

Liam's learning to stand also. He gets himself up holding onto something, then deliberately lets go to see how long he can stand without touching anything. It's funny to watch because it's obvious he's "trying" it... He hasn't learnt to clap yet - but I haven't been trying to teach him either.

As you can see from my latest ticker, his favourite sound is "GUG GUG GUG UG". Goes on and on all day. Very funny. Sounds like he's trying to carry a conversation. He's also pointing at everything. He's been pointing his finger for a while, but now he's using it to point to what he wants (the radio for music, the doorway that Dad just walked out of, his room to play in, etc) - usually accompanied by 'Gug gugug'.

He's had a growth spurt in the last few weeks (think it was while we're at Qld). Some of his size 0 clothes are getting hard to put over his big head! length is still ok (fits snugly, but ok) but his head's bigger! Noooooo - he's not ready for size 1 at 9 months!!!

Like you Janine - I'm loving this age. He's showing so much personality! Does anyone else's bubbas love being upside down??

Oh wow, reading Janine and Nettie's posts are like reading about my own boy!

Yes, 9 months is lots of fun, although I am lamenting the loss of my 'baby'. He is such a big boy now. Loves kisses still, but won't be cuddled unless he's upset or just woken from a nap. Too cool for school thanks very much Mum!!

Baxter is cruising the furniture and boy, does he love to climb, especially when one of us lays down on the floor with him or if he's in bed with us.

Nettie - Baxter's word is zizi, like gugug I guess!

Sorry for no more personals, Baxter as awake from 2.45am til 4.15am and we have no idea why, but I'm bloody tired!! Off to bed.

DH won't even consider a #2 until after Liam's surgery and all that settles down. He's always been keen on only having one, but I'd rather two.

Me I guess...we are kinda, maybe, not sure, etc.....thinking about it.

We have a trip planned to Melbourne so I'd really like to do that plus play a season of netball before having #2, watch this space!

No way no how. Done with kids, time for travel again. DH and I are big travellers, having itchy feet regularly. We don't like being tied down, it isn't comfortable to us. We finally got to where DD was very portable and now we have a new one! So we won't do it again, cos once he is portable, we're off. I have a lot of things I want to achieve also, I was never going to have kids and DH certainly wasn't interested. It all kind of happened. They are both extraordinary people, and I wouldn't send them back if given the chance :lol: but it sure slows a person down. I'm just not a very domestic person. I'd like to finish my degree and then go into medical school, but I also want to be there for my kids full term in that ol' fashioned way. So med school is way off the list for many years because it is a major time suck. I hope to travel with a doctorate as we don't just visit places we stay for long stretches and immerse ourselves in the culture. We also have several volunteer programs lined up which only take kids from the age of 8. You can get an excemption so we'll try that also.

So all up, nope, no more. I had the male nutered anyway, so it can't happen. :lol:

I've been a bit MIA too...been busy, and sorting out the years activities with Benjamin.

Well done on the walking Fire...I'm so glad Benjamin is only commandoing!! Partly because its easier to control but also cause its still a "baby" thing to do...walking is so grown up!!

As for another one, we are definitly having one.
We are planning on starting after Benjamin's 2nd birthday...(I feel like I've said this before cant remember who to!)

Lisa, we said that also because I had PND after my daughter and we only wanted one... etc. But things change, you never know! Enjoy your son as though he is the only one you'll have anyway.

BW, I don't like the crawling with DS. With DD it was ok because she is a very mellow person. DS and DD are not alike at ALL. Almost opposites. So where her crawling was tolerable, Ci is just a whinging mess. He is totally frustrated, he is the most determined person I think I've ever known and it drives me nuts. He was intent on walking for soooo long, but he knew he was just a little too wobbly for it all so he just cried and cried and often screamed in frustration each time he tried to step and didn't. So even though he is still practising walking, he likes the new level of control. I think once he is walking well, my life will get easier - or so I hope. This is the opposite of how it usually is, I know.

I am a great toddler mum, not a great baby mum. I thrive with toddlers, I can't stand the baby stage. I love tantrums and stuff, I really know how to lovingly handle them and feel proud as a parent when they're toddlers. Not so much that way with a baby. I just proof up my house (we live zen, nothing anywhere) so a toddler has free reign, I don't have to say "no" all day. So I find it really easy. Toddlers sleep, they eat without throwing, they don't cry much at all.... love it!

I've been cue-ing Ci for the toilet since birth, and I had some success. I can now put him on the potty in the morning and he poops! Haven't tried at any other time because the morning one is the only reliable one. One day, I got carried away with my morning emails and turned around and he had pooped beside the potty. I felt so bad.

Gotta go, take out dinner is walking through the door! Starved...

I've noticed that not many of us in here are platinum members.

BellyBelly have just done an announcement where they'll give someone membership when someone else renews theirs (or add on a year of membership if someone already has it). It's a Random Act of Kindness thing!

I will definitely be renewing my membership (due in March anyway) so I was wondering who here would like to be a member? I also figure that if all of us do this, all of us in our Baby Buddies group can reciprocate and we'll all get a bonus!

Like I said, I'd be renewing anyway so I just need to pick someone to give the bonus to. Please let me know if you're interested.

Liam's going great. He's learning to stand more and more on his own (look - no hands Mummy!) but no sign of walking yet.

Poor Dad is trying to get him to sleep at the moment and he's fighting because he's REALLY tired. Is everyone else's bubs down to 1 or 2 day naps now?

Nettie - that is so generous of you! I would love to say myself, but I'd love to suggest Fire. Although her parenting practices are different to mine (Janine, I mean this in the most sincere way), I love to read about her opinions and what she does with Ci.

PS - Baxter dropped a day sleep just before Chrissy, so now has 2 x naps of about 90 minutes each, I wish they were a little bit longer though.

Shoegal - Hope Baxter is going well. We are going to start trying for another one when Jack is 1. It took us nearly a year last time, and a miscarriage, so we don't want to mess about too much, as it does not get easier with age. When are you thinking of trying?

Nettie - Jack went to 2 sleeps when he was 6 months old and has been wavering between 1 and 2 sleeps for about 6 weeks now. This boy HATES sleep. He still wakes about 4 times a night now. I gave up on the dream of having more than 4 hours straight sleep months ago. I had to really, or else I would have gone insane. We bed share full time now, so that way I get the most sleep. It's actually much easier now that he is bigger as I feel much more comfortable cuddling into him. You have probably already said, but when is Liam due for surgery? Best of luck with it anyhow, I'm sure everything will go perfectly.

BW - I so agree with you on the crawling/commandoing thing. I don't want my baby to grow up either! It all goes by so fast.

MagicSeahorse - I can understand you not thinking you can handle another one. I have those moments, too, but don't discount another one just yet. You may feel differently in a few years when all the hard times are a distant memory. Then again, I might change my mind about another one after a few more hard sleepless nights!

Hi sweetie, long time no 'see'! How is sweet little Jack? Is he walking?

I remember us in the PAML thread together. I'm not really sure if anyone IRL has found me on these forums so I don't want to give away too much but yes, I think we may start TTC#2 in about May. I ask Baxter if he would like a baby brother or a baby sister! I think I am going mad. But I feel like at least another would add to the happiness in our little family. Baxter is awesome! We have so much fun together. I cry because I am so happy sometimes...!

It didn't take us long to fall pregnant but the MC did knock me around for sure. I still think about my May 2007 angel from time to time. I'll probably go back to my FS to have the pregnancy tracked as I was on progesterone to sustain Baxter's pregnancy. I feel I need the 'hand-holding', especially for the first 12 weeks.

Hi all.

I don't know how the platinum thing works. I know I barely visit here anymore, or anywhere at the moment because I'm doing my website and things keeping up with friends on facebook is about all I manage.

The nap thing just freaked me out. I had no idea some were still taking three naps a day! I'm pretty sure Ci would if I let him, but I find sleep has worked out better with only two naps a day. His night sleep has evened out nicely since the weeks of teething put a dent on it. I'm considering doing a "dream feed" at my bedtime, not sure yet. I tried that a month or so ago and he still woke at 3am so it only served to add another feed! Which meant he woke soaked through. He has woken for his night feed between 2 and 4am for long enough now that I'm considering trying for that dream feed again and seeing if I can kick that second feed to 5 or 6am. It would be nice to go to bed and then not wake until his morning feed. Ha! What a joke. But, I can dream. It eventually happened with my daughter, so it will happen, it will happen...

Great to hear from all of you. They're almost a year! Crazy! Leyla I hope he starts doing a long stint for you soon. It will come, I can promise you that.
