Hey Nettie, good to hear from you!

We are just cruising along here. Baxter has 5 teeth, 3 main meals and 1 snack and 3 bottles a day. FINALLY sleeping from 7 til 7, the night waking was because the poor bugger was cold! Standing and walks behind his activity walker.

We are gearing up getting ready to move into our new house! Hopefully in by April. DH has gone to Perth today to pick up the tiles, tiler starts on Monday, woot!

PS - have stopped thinking about TTC#2, feel like I have my life back again, selfish I know, but things are good right now and I don't feel like changing the status quo.

PPS - had a BT on Tues about my thyroid, all good! So I don't need to go on thyroxine after getting the postpartum thyroiditis, yay!

Heya Shoe! Baxter sounds like he's growing up so fast! Yes, we found Liam was cold - if we make sure he's cozy & warm, he sleeps SOOO much better! Did I mention he's now in a sleeping bag which has made a big difference?

Yes, Baxter's in a singlet, full legnth onesie and Grobag. It's his sleep cue which really helps him go to sleep I think.

About not having another right now. I am back playing netball this year and really want to do some entertaining in our new house. How can I entertain and have a couple of drinks if I'm UTD??

Exactly! If things have settled down to where life feels 'normal'... why not enjoy yourself while it lasts! I'm sure you'll get an 'itch' before too long...

Liam's got PJ's on under his sleeping bag. We have a whole routine with bath, bottle, music, etc.. the sleeping bag is just another indicator now.

life's been busy, hence my lack of posts, sorry! it sounds like you and your bubs are all doing well.

a brief update - dd is great, cruising around and taking a step here and there. loves to throw things and wait for someone to pick them up. only has 2 teeth - she managed to swipe a biscuit from her brother yesterday but it took her 20 minutes to eat it! sleep remains appalling, in fact so bad that i am too embarrassed to go into the details. am determined to work on it shortly.

nettie best wishes for the surgery, i'll be thinking of you and liam. i'm sure it'll go well and be a huge relief for you when it's over.

Surgery went well. The Drs are pleased with how it all went so that's always good.

Me? Well, I'm home - alone - and not coping too well. I feel like I'm going slowly insane because I've left my boy in hospital (and my Husband) and this is the first time since he was born that I've spent the night away from him.

He's been quite clingly and dependent and neither of us got heaps of sleep last night (about 5 hours each - broken up) - as Liam will only sleep in our arms. So we took turns and switched every 2-3 hours. I feel REALLY awful that I've left DH there to deal with him while I'm home (have to go back to work in the morning) and I'm missing Liam like nothing I've ever experienced before.... haven't stopped sobbing since I left the ward!

I'll go back each night after work (around 1hour drive each way) and if I'm this unstable at work tomorrow, I might even be able to call in 'sick' to go early... I'll see what happens after a night's sleep.

On the upside (yes, there IS one!) - we got permission from the head Plastic Surgeon to use the haberman bottle to give Liam a feed around 6pm tonight. We tried to spoon or syringe feed him this afternoon (they don't want anything in his mouth) but it just really upset him as he's not used to it and didn't swallow reflexibly - so he panicked. He ate some pureed apples on a spoon, but the milk (formula) is what he really wanted. Also - the sucking action really comforted him. So we can now settle him easier and he has been playing and smiling as well as grizzling and crying!

Hopefully in the morning the pain management team will assess him not needing the morphine any more (he's on the minimum dose now) and we can remove the drip and oxygen and have him tangle free!

The splints on his arms are ticking him off a bit - but that's a small thing to deal with for now. They should come off in a few days.

Here's hoping DH has gotten him to sleep in the cot and is having some well earned sleep right now... Can I hear a 'Hell yeah!'??

You were very brave leaving him Toni, when Bj ended up in hospital at 10 weeks, I refused to leave him, slept on a chair in his room for 3 nights (DH had work), only time I left his side was one day when DH came for a visit after work, I went to the vending mechine down the hall!

You guys have done very well, and I'm stoked to read he's doing so well!!

Well done on the walking Baxter...Benjamin still commandos everywhere, despite getting up on his knees and rocking, and sitting himself up whenever he wants, he still always drops right down to move!
He'll commando over to us though and pull up to standing (then bounce like a kangaroo!) meh..he'll get there when he's ready!

Benjamin had a hearing test yesterday, went well, except it looked like he was getting yet another ear infection,and yup, at the Dr today it was confirmed yet again Benjamin has an ear infection in both ears, and a throat infection....grrrr.....no wonder he was velcro boy....we kinda knew it was coming though, still a bummer.

He has coped with it so well, apart from a few nights where he protested going to sleep...and a couple of days where I felt like I'd developed a boy sized tumor on my hip cause I only had to look like I might think about putting him down and he would cling on for dear life!

BW, take a look at my ear infection stuff, just to make sure your doc is on the ball:

He should not be given antibiotics, and if he has ever been given them for an ear infection, chances are good that is what is making this recurrent. I have seen success with hydrogen peroxide and oregano oil for the ear, with nystatin internally (I use adult capsules opened and mixed in smaller doses mixed with puree rather than the liquid cos that has saccharine in it).

The important treatment is pain relief. Doctors can overlook this.

Yeast live in the eustacian tubes, and they help bad bacteria grow, causing issues in the sinuses, ears and throat and the back of the nose. The best way to treat this area is to get a nasal spray, preferably one that hasn't had drugs in it, like a homeopathic one. Then empty the stuff in it, and refill with a 2% hydrogen peroxide and water solution, squirt up the nose. 15 minutes later, after any sneezing has stopped, use cotton bud with a 50/50 mix of coconut oil/oregano oil and wipe inside the nose. An hour later, use another squirt bottle with nystatin powder mixed with water, half a 500000IU pill mixed with 50 ml water and squirt that up there. Give half of the remaining half pill orally with spoonful of puree. Do all this twice a day.

Oregano oil (pure wild oregano from turkey, about 10 bucks from ebay), wiped around the outside of the ear hole (not dropped into the ear). If you get the ok from the doc that the ear drum is intact, you can use drops of hydrogen peroxide, 2%, inside the ear. Get olive leaf tincture and give dose (depending on size and type, get advice from the shop). I also mix the oregano oil, one drop, in a tsp of extra virgin coconut oil in a tsp and give it to DS. It doesn't burn this way, and is a powerful antibiotic/antifungal. This is evidence based, clinical trials have shown most of these claims to be true. Disclaimer - always get medical advice before doing any treatment and yahda yahda yahda.

I see this often, and still get success even though I'm only treating online these days, as long as the cause is treated. The doc will ignore the cause, because they don't know that yeast is a factor, and will give more abx only making the whole thing worse, and sets him up for another, possibly worse, infection in the future. You have to treat that deep seated yeast. And the gut yeast must be put back in check, which is the ultimate source. He also needs to be less acidic, which means more magnesium and calcium and potassium, plus some zinc. Bananas, sprouted seeds and beans, things like sunflower seeds, alfalfa seeds, mung beans etc (must be sprouted or the nutrients aren't accessed, they don't have to be sprouts as such, just left overnight, preferably longer, wet so that they grow a little tail); oats, but again, nutrients aren't available unless soaked overnight. If not soaked, they actually leach nutrients out of the body instead of give nutrients to the body.

What I do with oats and wheat is put them in a bowl, add warm water, big squeeze of lemon juice (needs acidic medium) and add a pinch of wheat (such as wheat bix) to the oats as they contain a chemical needed to help the oats break down, but it isn't necessary if this already sounds too overwhelming. Then I put the bowl in a slightly warmed oven overnight. They are quicker to cook in the morning, may be slightly bubbling, this is a good thing.

Is this his only symptom of yeast? Does he have any skin itches, white patches in the mouth, dandruff, gas or bowel pain, itchy eyes or ears, nappy rash, or anything else you can think of? If not, that's ok, he still has a yeast issue, I recall this from months ago as I think he was on abx at some point, maybe birth, or for the first ear infection. On my page you will see the recommendations doctors are meant to follow for ear infections as they are so rarely bacterial in origin. They are usually a combination of many pathogens. Anyway, just had to pop in with that because I can't walk past a baby struggling with ear infections long term when I know why they are getting them.

Janine - Liam's doing great! He's cutting about 4 teeth at once (the top 4!) and my MIL insists he's getting is '12 month molars' too... but I haven't seen them (not that he lets me look in his mouth much!)... The cleft is all repaired and healed and he's just a normal baby now! He's eating a bit (slower than most because of the late start) but we're doing BLS which makes it hard to measure too. He loves playing with food - just not sure how much gets eaten!

I think he's been doing some growth spurts or wonder weeks because his normal routine's up to **** - waking up in the night really crying & all sorts. I know some of it's the teeth pain, but he's also started toddling a bit (few steps at a time) so there's a lot going on in that little head at the moment!

What's everyone doing about Easter? We've told everyone that Liam is NOT having any chocolate. He doesn't eat enough veggies or fruit yet to say he's mature enough for such a processed food. Quite ironic really seeing as we won the first prize in the local school's Easter raffle! :rofl: Nice basket of eggs... although DH has hidden the two bunnies and gone out. <insert expletive here> He knows I love eating the bunny ears! He won't be home until around midnight and I've hunted for them and can't find them!!

It feels like ages since we've had an update from you Janine (other than this post) - how's Ci doing? I think I remember seeing you say he's walking? Got any words yet? Liam says 'cat' (we've got two) - which means that everything is a cat... very cute!

Thanks Nettie. Baxter had a great day. Lots of phone calls, texts and gifts from gorgeous friends. He did attempt to eat a birthday cupcake but wasn't really interested. It was his first taste of junk so I'm pleased he didn't scoff the whole thing. Nope, no chocolate for DS either. He has plenty of time in his life to eat that sort of stuff.

We do a mix of BLS and spoon feed. I guess I do the spoon feed thing to save on mess and time!

Only words are 'Dad', 'Mum' and 'Bub'. That's what he calls himself. Although sometimes he mixes up Mum and Bub....and I get called Bum. Hmm........!

Got a bit teary tonight. I just remember having a newborn on this day last year. I almost wished DH had taped some of the birth. Such a significant life event and I only have patches of memory.

Hi Everyone!

I hope all your babies enjoyed their 1st birthdays! Its hard to believe a year has gone by so fast.

We've had a few immunisation issues in our house this time, although, I've also done a little research and found that Boyo was immunised in a "wonder week" so not only has there been crabbiness from the immunisations, and also had some crabbiness is with that! We went from months of sleeping through, to a couple of weeks (so far) of night waking and screaming and velcroness.

Still, I celebrated my 30th birthday yesterday, and my husband did a wonderful job with my birthday surprise!

Benjamin and I went to Hey Dee Ho music in the morning, then had a nice quiet evening, then Matt came home with a little Swaravski crystal bear holding a birthday pressie for me from Benjamin, and then we hopped in the car for my surprise, which turned out to be then evening at Drallion, the new Cirque Du Soliel production, it was FANTASTIC!

Benjamin was a superstar for my boss while we were gone!

It was all around a wonderful day!

My little man is teething constantly (has 6 teeth - 4 top, 2 bottom) so can get a bit whingy from that, otherwise he's a happy little guy who's just doing his thang...

Oh Nettie, we've just had the worst fortnight with DS. He has almost a full mouth of teeth, heaps of molars. Finally started to sleep through again about 4 nights ago.

We're getting ready to move into our new house! It's a beautiful 4 x 2 that DH and I designed, oh gosh, I can't wait!

the best thing i have found for teething is baltic amber. I got one when dd first started getting her molars and haven't had any issues with teething since and she has sprouted three molars since.
The poor thing is sick at the moment with the cold. First sickness for her, and i would say she is handling it pretty well.
She isn't walking yet :( she did start but had a bit of a fall and wont do it again by herself.
Looking forward to getting to know you all, and some of you again :)

OMG, I have not checked in here in ages! I can't believe its been over two months since they turned 1. Thanks Sequoia for checking on me! I'm still here. Jack as been doing really well, such a happy little guy. He talks like a little parrot! So cute. He has about 20 words now and even uses them together occasionally (like, hello mummy, or kitty hug... so cute!!). And OMG, he has the cheekiest little sense of humor! His latest trick is pretending to hurt himself and coming over to me whilst 'crying' then jumping up and down and laughing when I offer him sympathy! I think I'll have to read him the boy who cried wolf!

Unfortunately we are yet to have a sleep-through of any form. He really has been the most shocking sleeper. Most nights he wakes at least 4 times, which is a massive improvement on the 10-12 times he woke each night consistently from 0-10 months!! How do I cope I hear you ask? ... especially since I've been back at work for the last 5 months?? Well, to be honest I really don't know. I guess I have just adjusted after 14 months of broken sleep. I now find that as long as I have at least 4 hours over night I am ok. Even better if he gives me at least one 3 hour stretch (which does not always happen). So we are still co-sleeping full time as that is the only way I can survive this!

Call me crazy, but we also plan to start trying for another one next month. I must be completely mad...:wall:

OMG Leyla! 20 words, what a little chatterbox! Every word here is "Dad". I am Dad, the fridge is Dad, milk is Dad. Upside is when he wakes up in the morning, he calls for "Dad"! He is getting clever though, we ask him to clap hands, and he does. We ask him to brush his hair, and he does. And he can touch his nose now when I ask, so cute!

LOL Sequoia! Liam calls everything 'cat'. Anything with a face is 'cat'. We have 2 cats which he adores, so sometimes he gets it right ;)

Hehe at Liam clapping for himself! Gosh, I love this age. I don't want to wish away his babyhood but I can't wait until he can talk. I think DS would have some funny things to say. He is just like his daddy!

Isabell only says 6 words or so. Flower (said rowra), Duck (said du), num num (when she is hungry or sees food), and then mumma, dadda, bubba, nanna and she also says belly button (said be bu or just bu) and she points to it and shows any one who will look with pride. She is very proud of her belly button. She also says hair (said haair)
She is also using her imagination. She opened a kitchen cupboard yesterday and 'took' something off the plate and 'ate' it with a mmm following. She also pretends to drink out of anything that remotely resembles a cup with a big ahh after each sip.
They grow up way too fast :(

Of course as u know Zak's 2yrs and 1 month old, he goes to daycare 2 days a week and talks ALOT lol never shuts up....Im guessing he is just a normal 2yr old

Yes i have just found out i am pregnant with number 2 very excited :) i am about 4-5weeks going off my LMP but having an ultrasound whenever i can get booked in to find out how far i am exactly!

Hunter was born on 3rd April. 9 weeks early, so he's not really compared to the others on here. His development is proving to be quite different. He isn't talking yet and sees a speech therapist. We are also teaching him sign language, as his therapist says it's the best thing to boost his development. It's all going in, but nothing is coming out. Yesterday he suprised us all by saying "ddog-gy". You could see the concentration on his face! I nearly jumped for joy!

This group, as you can see has fallen silent for sometime, so you may be while getting replies. Which state are you in? Are you a member of a state group?

Normal 2 year old action here too, we are awaiting the arrival of baby #2 in about 10 weeks but not much else to report I'm afraid.

DS is a little behind on his speech and we see a speechie too.

Sequoia- Wow thats sooo exciting congrats on baby number 2!! Do u know what ur having?

My son doesn't say everything but he is saying a fair few things and talks ALOT in his own Jibberish language :)
