Abigail Mackenzie (Abbie) made her entrance into the world at 4.31pm 20-08-2008!!
6lb 5oz, no length as yet - and a beautiful head of dark hair (she is the spitting image of my youngest daughter :D)
Abbie's in SCU still, but going well, she had a great feed while I was up there, Amy and Michael are both tired but very happy.
thanks for the updates congrats Amy, Dh & Declan on the arrival of baby Abigail!!
i hope she is back in your arms and out of scn soon
Nixon did his first ever trickle in the potty yesterday, think it was a bit of a fluke but hey there was a tiny little wee in there!
Tyron is crawling around everywhere, pulling himself up and cruising along furniture, gosh at this age Nixon had just mastered sitting!
Hey guys thanks for the well wishes & thanks to Sharleen for updating you guys.
Here's a run down of my birth story & some pics for you all.
Ok so where to start.
I was at home Monday night (18.08.2008) watching TV & checking emails. At around 8.15pm I stood up to go to the toilet as I needed to go pee. As I stood up I felt a small trickle & thought to myself ?I didn?t think I was that busting for a loo stop?. I went to the toilet & as I stood up from there it felt like someone had turned a tap on a medium flow so I sat back down & called out to hubby to call the hospital to see what they wanted us to do as I was only 36 weeks that day. They told us to head straight up since I wasn?t quite term. So I finished packing the everyday toiletries, slippers etc into my bag while I had a towel between my legs lol. Let me tell you I?m so glad that I don?t have Incontinence as the waters trickling constantly just feels like you are constantly peeing yourself.
We got up to the hospital around 8.45pm & I was taken to be observed on the CTG to check bub out her heart rate was quite high was sitting up around the 180s & sometimes higher. They did my obs my BP was up (can?t remember exactly what it was) my pulse rate was high 108 & my temp was high also, to the point they classed it as a fever. They ran a urine analysis & it came back clear & since I wasn?t showing any other symptoms they were baffled as to where the infection was. So they decided to put me on IV fluids and a broad-spectrum antibiotic through the IV. As I was hooked up to the CTG they decided to do an internal to check to see if the fluid was pooling which they said it wasn?t all they could see was watery mucous. They went to get an amnio test & couldn?t find any so they decided to wait & see what happened over night.
On Tuesday (19.08.2008) I hadn?t been leaking since arriving at the hospital & still showing signs of infection they decided to keep up with the IV & antibiotic & send me for an ultra sound to check on fluid levels so at 11.45am I went over to radiology to have the ultra sound done (with a full bladder grrr) so not fun having a full bladder haha. They came in at 2pm to give me the results from my ultrasound as I was asleep earlier (since I didn?t get to sleep until 2.15am Tues morning & was up at 6am for another CTG). They said my water levels were still within the normal range so they suspected a possible hind water leak so since they can mend themselves they were going to get my temp under control for 24 hrs then send me home on rest.
At 2.30pm Tuesday afternoon I got up to get my book when I felt the tap get turned on again. So we buzzed the middie who came in & confirmed yes that was definitely amnio fluid. So the Ob was called again. He came in & said because they weren?t sure where the infection was & because I had premature rupture of membranes (PROM) that it was a possibility that the infection was to do with uterus. So that if I didn?t go into labour over night they would induce Wednesday morning. Nothing happened Tuesday night.
Wednesday (20.08.2008) morning the Ob came & assessed my cervix & since my cervix was already soft & dilated to 3cms & still leaking they would just start me straight up on the syntocin drip as the gel wouldn?t of stayed in there.
So at 10.30am Wednesday morning they started the syntocin drip & I had my first contraction around 11am. They were turning the syntocin up every 30mins to help the contractions get progressive. I was managing fine with my concentration of breathing through the contractions. At 2.45pm they decided they would do an internal to see how far I had progressed. At this point I had only gotten to 4cms dilated but they did find I still had forewaters still intact so they broke those for me & that?s when the contractions became very intense as the syntocin had been turned right up to get them going when they weren?t. So at 3.15pm I decided my breathing through the contractions wasn?t enough as I couldn?t keep my body relaxed when the contractions were happening so I asked for the gas. They gave that to me on the low setting to start off with but by 3.45 it wasn?t helping on that setting so I got them to turn it up to the next one for me. I found that that setting was working so I was happy to concentrate on breathing through them again. At 4.15pm hubby noticed bubs heart rate had disappeared from the monitor so the middie checked me & her head was there ready to crown so with 5 pushes she was out at 4.31pm. They placed her on my chest quickly while Mike (hubby) cut the cord then they took her straight over to the table to get some oxygen on to her as she wasn?t breathing properly. They got her going & brought her back to me for a quick cuddle & pic op with Mike then they took her to special care nursery so they could check her over etc. She was in the incubator for around 3hrs for warmth & oxygen for the first 1.5hrs.
So at 7.45pm I got to give my princess a breastfeed & have a proper cuddle with her.
Her birth stats were:
She was born at 4.31pm Wednesday 20.08.2008
Weighing in at 2870g (6lb 50z)
Length - 50cms
Head circumference - 33cms.
She is being a very good baby feeding roughly 4hrly & sleeping in between with a period of awake in the afternoon.
If you got this far thanks for reading my novel & pics are below.

Thanks for looking
wow thanks for sharing your birth story.
I could definatley relate to you with the leaking tap i had PROM with Nixon and went with it for 5 days of leaking before i had him.
Tyron it happened again but at 38weeks so was much safer.
those pics are great, i love the one with Declan hehe
and thats great for her at 36wks to be able to go home with you and not spend much time in the incubator and scn!!
well done
Hi guys
Thanks for the comments Nic.
Abbie has settled into home really well & Declan just adores her which is making my life easier.
Haven't been doing a great deal as I have been pretty run down. My loss had gone to nothing Tues last week & then came back with a gush Thursday last week so was advised by GP office to head to the ED, after waiting an hr to just see the triage nurse it then took another 3.5hrs before I saw a dr was so not happy esp since I almost passed out on them. It turned out to be an infection in the uterus so was given anti bs & sent home. Same thing happened again Tuesday just gone, so back to the ED we had to go. They ended up doing an internal u/s which showed I had retained tissue so I ended up having a D&C that night so now I'm actually starting to feel better & more human.
Amy- similar thing happened to my sister, she felt so horrible for weeks after the birth of her second DD then she started passing very large clots, finally about 6wks later had a D & C got it all out and she started feeling good.
Nixon has to have his tonsils and adenoids out next month. he has always snored and gotten really bad, he has been diag with sleep apnea and so not really any other road to go down other than have them removed. he has a hearing test this thurs to determine if he needs grommets also.
Ty is well although also battling an ear infection atm, can't beleive he will be 1 in just a few weeks!
hope everyone is well
WOW... its been really quiet in here!!!!
We have sucess in TT for #1s...but #2s... still work in progress...
Hope you are all well...
I have startedmy polytech course in early childhood.... still waiting on little ones to look after at home, but loving being at home wit h Alexa...
Doing some casual work at the local tavern & pub, a bit tiring with the late nights... but worth it in the long run!!!
Not long till Xmas now... anyone organised yet?
Hi all - Yep it has been ages since anyone has posted in here!!
Sarah is fully daytime TTed, she wears a nappy for sleeps and that is about it.
We are flying home for Christmas and I have no Idea what we are getting for the girls.
I am having our last bub in June, I am 7w5d pg now.
Hey guys
Just wanted to say congrats to Ali on your pregnancy.
Hope you all have a great christmas with all the kids.
Hi guys OMG it has been like over a year since I have posted here and so much has happened in that time. we sold our house lived with the in laws for 9 mths OMG only just survived are now living in our beautiful new house only metres from the beach and it is just awesome. Declan just doen't stop growing and learning he is such a beautiful affectionate little man.
He hates it when he sees ppl upset or hurt one of his most common phrases is "u ok"
He is totally obssessed with Toy Story and Buzz in particular and like most todlers thinks the wiggles are awesome.
I can't believe these little ppl are all about to turn 3 it just seems so surreal
And I see that so many of you have had 2nd bubs as well congrats to you all, unfortunatly my dh is still not keen and the cost of day care is not helping my case but well that is life I guess.
I have been promoted twice since I started my new job back December last year which I guess is why I have not been around the site much.
But now with my new computer and wireless net I find myself surfing at night.
Declan is still a shocking sleeper but I think I am just used to it now and I think we have finally figured out why turns out Declans tonsills are abnormally large which is why he snores and the doc thinks may wake him up as he may not be getting enough oxygen he has to have xrays to confirm but they will be most likely removed sometime this year. Have 6 bouts of infection in 8 mths in the later part of last year I am sure you can imagine this will be such a relief.
Well I shall pop in from time to time would be great to see what everyone is up too.
Hope you had a wonderful christmas and are enjoying the new year
hello strangers! i was just thinking i should find the old April thread and becky u bu,ped it u[ a bit!
Ali congrats on your pregnancy, u guys finding out the sex soon?
Bec i can totally relate to the sleeping issues. Nixon had enlarged tonsils and adenoids and had them both removed October just gone.... he has always snored the house down and now u cannot even hear him and he can sleep with his mouth shut it is amazing!
if u have any Q about surgery etc just ask me, it all went pretty smoothly and something that had to be done. did u know it can also cause behavioural problems? because they are not getting the quality of sleep they should be.
Nixon went to a special pathogist in Nov and she noted him as being of "mild delay" and almost a yr behind in his speech, however was happy not to do therapy but we go back this month for another assesment.
tyron is a monster, he's such a funny felow, so full on now though i dont remember Nixon ever beeing as full on as him.... he is always hurting himself always, he already has a few war wounds
i hope everyone is well and hope to hear from u soon
Hey Nickers great to hear from you,
Declan is going for his xray to check out the atenoids as well so will most likely be bother removed I hope
How long did Nixon take to recover. and how long did he have to be in hospital?
Declan's speech isn't too bad his main problem there is he wont give up his dummy but hopefully we will get rid of that soon too
I would love to know some more about the surgery as well if you don't mind.
Thanks
My main trigger of nixon having a problem was his snoring.... he just kept getting louder and louder and got to the point you could see the struggle it was to take a breath.
so got a referal to the ENT specialist thinking we would do a sleep study but one look at him gave us the answer. he needed them out.
he was in hospital overnight and i stayed with him. we had to be at the hossy 6am the morning of the surgery. his op happened about 10am and took just under an hour to take out his tonsils, adenoids and drain both ears. We left the hospital approx midday the following day.
Nixon was shocking when he woke from the anasthetic, apparently 1 in 5 wake up that way. he was incolsolable even with me there and he had to be sedated again to calm him down.
But after the next wake up he was a bit better and then started eating! he loved eating jelly, icecream, custard, yogurt the works.
we were having serious sleeping issues before the surgery (getting him to sleep that was) that didnt start to get better till about 2months after surgery (so only recenlty)
recovery wise he did better than i thought though. he wasnt allowed to be social for 2 weeks post op and 2 weeks pre op to so couldnt go to playgroup etc. he continued to snore for a few weeks after it then one day just went to sleep with his mouth shut and no snoring!!
You are joking 4 weeks he wasn't allowed to have contact that is so NOT going to be possible with me and DH both working full time I could do 2 weeks maybe but certainly not 4
is he at daycare Becky? the main reason for the iscolation was getting sick.
the specialist told me if he was sick 2 weeks prior to the op he needed to know and it would possibly be rescheduled, would u beleive 3weeks before it he gets tonsilitis......so i was franticlly trying to get him better (in actual fact when the 2wk mark hit he still wasnt 100% better but i took my chances)
The 2 weeks after was more because he was still recovering but being a throat operation until they are recovered they are more suseptable to infection.
i dont know an easy way around it i guess the 2 weeks AFTER the op would be more important to not have him around other children and if in the 2 weeks prior he did get sick worse case scenario the op gets post phoned.
in the paperwork i got to read it suggested any chilren at school who have T&A out should be home from school for 2 weeks.
Yea he is in full time day care so it is going to be difficult. HE had is xrya yesterday and he sees the ENT at the end of the month
tomorrow is declanbs visit to the ent fingers crossed
oh good luck.
im over hearing tests atm, Nixon has had 4 tests in 4 months and all have been inconclusive, personally i think if they cant get the proper infor they need to change the tests to be suitable for 2 yr olds!! he just gets too distracted so no one can decifer if he is not hearing things or just tuning out, i think he is just tuning out.... have to ring our ENT on monday to discuss our last attempt as it was at a diff pl and she was sending him the results.
let us know how he goes

Katey Hi & welcome back!
Hey guys..
Long time no see..
How did Declan go Becky?
Been crazy hectic here...
career change for me, now doing home based daycare & loving it... get so much more time with Alexa now :), still miss my old pay sometimes though LOL...
Hope all the little ones, or not so little anymore are behaving themselves..
Will write more soon :)
Well considering we are about to enter April
Happy 3rd Birthday To all the lovely little people who have changed our lives so much!!
Sarah is almost ready to drop her daytime sleep, I dont know if she will have one today, but she seems to be behaving well so she might be ok today, but some days she really needs it. She is very good with helping to do housework which is a huge help while I am pg. She talks non stop and has felt baby kick, which she loved.
Hope everyone had a fantastic time with their little ones for the 3rd bdays.
What has everyone been up to?
Ali - are you on the countdown now?
Yep on the final count down. I have a MW appointment on Wednesday, hopefully she can convince my OB that a VB is not possible this time, if not the the physio will email him. The OB is an old fuddy duddy who thinks that his opinion and research are the only things that matter
Good luck Ali. Look forward to hearing your BA.
Hey guys
Just checking in to see what all you lovely ladies have been up to.
Belated congrats to ALI on the safe arrival of your little girl.
Well my lil monkey had his toncils and adanoids removed on Tuesday so we have had some fun the last few days with a sooky and sore lil boy hopeful this will be the end of the toncilitis he was getting it every 3 weeks to the point he could hardle breath.
Still not sleeping but hopeful with the above done could have some luck on that front too.
Still just the 1 DH and I are thinking about trying for #2 at the end of the year but we have put our house on the market now and are planning to build again so I guess it will depend what stage of this we are at in 6 months time.
Congrats to those who have given birth since I have been in or have successfully conceived is anyone else planning another baby ?
Wow Beck how did you cope with him having tonsilitis so often. Huge hugs hun.
We're about to celebrate miss Abbie's 1st bday in 3weeks (wow time flies) & have a surprise in the oven. Plus on top of that we'll be moving in 2 weeks to a bigger house also.
Oh Bec, poor lil man, hope he's feeling better real soon.
Ali, congrats on your latest bundle.
Amy, congrats on #3 on the way.
Hope everyone is well & happy.
Lanah is turning 2 in 2wks... where has the time gone.
Holly is a chatterbox now, gees toddlers come out with the funniest things sometimes, makes me laugh.
Hi everyone,
Well it has been a very long time! I hope you are all well!
Tyron is an absolute menace and is way to smart for his own good I think, he constantly corrects things if he doesnt think you have said them right and is a real nosey parker!!
I am now 14 weeks pregnant with our second baby and have found this pregnancy much easier on my nerves than Tyron's!
Well better get back to work, but I hope you are all great!
Lis
Hi all,
Thought I'd check in and see how everyone's doing. Sounds like everything is going along nicely. Hope Declan's recovered well Becky.
Things a going along nicely here, apart from having to deal with a few tantrums. Janae has never thrown a tantrum in her life, but Josiah has them almost daily, it's quite a challenge :)
Another challenge on the way, just found out tonight that I'm pregnant with number 3! BIG surprise, and still in major shock. Need to go and have an ultrasound, because I can't pinpoint my last cycle because they've been a bit all over the place lately, but I'm guessing about 5 weeks or so. We'll see.
Anyway, I have a feeling I'll be around a bit more, so see you soon
Bel
Hi everyone,
Bel - Good to hear from you, it has been a while since we have heard from anyone ,I wonder how everyone is nowadays!!!
Congratulations on number 3, you are brave I am just getting my head around number 2!! Tantrums are lovely, I so want to be that lady that lies on the floor i nthe shop and has a tantrum in front of her kids but never quite been brave enough!!
I hope everyone else is going along nicely!
I am finding this listeria thing a nightmare second time around, all iwant to eat is salad and i cant buy it from the shops and am too lazy to get up at 5.30 to make if before work!!
Hi guys just letting you all know.
Found out Thursday that our little smidge had passed away after a few weeks of waiting & worrying with what was wrong ie Trisomy 21,13 & 18.
Friday night at 7.35pm we welcomed our darling son JACOB CONNOR into the world born sleeping & too precious for this world.
The next step is we now have to organise his service. Which I never expected to have to do for 1 of my babies. But I tell you what. Leaving that hospital with no baby is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
Hi guys
Long time no hear...
Congrats on all the new arrivals... :)
Amy so sorry to hear of you wee darlings passing..... hope things are getting a little easier for you by now...
Well Alexa is 4 next month & has the attitude of a teenager... grr, just drives me insane some times...
I have just got a new job, 20 hrs a week at the prison... will be an interesting job, so really looking forward to it...
Hope ou are all well..
Hugs
Michelle
wow this i thought this thread was long gone!
Amy - i dont know how you would cope through a situation like your's i hope Jacob's service was peacful and time will ease the pain.
well today was a big day for Nixon. He had a diagnostic assesment which we were waiting for 6months to get.
we got fantastic news that he does NOT have autism. He had Pervasie Developmental Disorder (PDD) which is basically when a child has several autistic traits but does not have Autism.
he has already been going to speech therapy and OT so will continue this but now we will have access to funding to help for it all.
he did so well we are so proud of our big boy and they also beleive he is above average for intelectual intelligence and is a smart cookie!!
i hope everyone is well
Hellooooooooooooooooooo ladies
I'm back !!!!!!
After nearly 3 years, I have just read where some of you are up to. I recently found JacciPG on Facebook, so I'm reasonably up with her goings on
Well whats happening with us.
As with all of us, the magic 4 is rapidly approaching. How has this happened. Seemed just like the other day we had brought them home from the hospital after being born
Jordy is doing brilliantly. He is currently going to daycare 4 days a week - its about 100m from home. He can talk under wet concrete and has an amazing sense of humour. A week or so ago he cracked the 1m mark in height, no idea where in the scale of things that puts him, but its still a milestone
Last year was a bit of trouble - some may remember me saying he was born with something not quite right at the back of his throat. Well basically from what we eventually learnt after finding a decent paedatrician (and going through half a dozen others who said "its just childhood asthma, here's another ventolin script - thats $1billion fee for my 5 minutes)... his enlarged sort of tonsils/adenoids cause him to cough, which irritates his throat, which causes mucous, which eventually gets infected, occasionally then going down into his lungs and sometimes turning into pneumonia
We had 3 admissions to hospital last year... this aint asthma you idiots.
Anyway, last guy we say said if he gets sick again, just ring, I'll see him right away, no matter of time or day of week. We saw him on a Monday lunchtime a few weeks later, he gave us a powerful drug to use, and jordy was all clear by the Thursday when we were due to take him back. Wow, what a recovery that stuff did.
He had a sleep study early January which did show enlarged T's and A's - I see someone else had them removed recently ??. But his are borderline as to leaving them in... so we'll see. On 2 drugs which we give him at night... a nasal spray and a puffer (done like ventolin, but its different)... this seems to be helping.
He loves his swimming, and loves the Pixar Cars movie, plus various others. Oh and Ben10 has been a massive hit lately.
Oh and books. Does he ever tire of them... nup. Another one please mummy or daddy
Me: I kept working at home until 2.5 months ago, when I was no longer working on the Australian Customs account with work. And since I could not find another client to work on, I've just been made redundant. 3.5 weeks to go til March 26 unless I find something else to do here
I've been sitting alongside a contractor working in a completely different field, but learning off him. Hoping I might do some contracting in that subject once I've finished.
Jen is still working like crazy hence Jordy in daycare... otherwise she would be much happier being a his mum full time... but knows he loves his daycare, even when he says he doesnt want to go - I have a sore tummy daddy. Hmm, not likely mate. He has his teachers rapped around his little finger. Gives them all a cuddle or at least a wave at the end of the day
Hope some of you are still around. Congrats to all who have gone on to additional family members, and Amy, sorry to hear of your loss.
Cheers
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Great to hear from you, I was actually just thinking of you and Jackie the other day and wondering how everyones 4 year olds were going !!!
Sounds like Jordy is doing well, I cant believe how big they are now. Tyron can talk for australia too and asks so many questions it is unbelievable!!
I had a little girl 3 weeks ago, called Lara, it has bought back all those wonderful newborn memories but unfortunately all the sleepless nights full of colic!!
Please add me to your facebook, my details are lisa morton-szczesny as I am on there much more of than here!
Hope your job hunting goes well too.
Lis
Welcome Back Abs!!!!
4 is coming way to fast isn't it!!
Sarah has the attitude of a teenager, and is constantly doing things that I ask her not to, and is such a little mummy!! She continually picks Leah up which kind of scares me, Leah is half her weight, I dont want her hurting her back!!
She is on waiting lists for kindy, but we dont know if she will get a place. I haven't put her on waiting lists for school because we are due for a new posting at the end of the year so I have no idea where we will be. We should find out mid year if they get somewhat organised.
Must cut this short, I am needed
congratulations Lisa on the birth of your baby girl Lara thats wonderful news!
Hi Abs! thanks for your update its great to hear how you have been going.
Nixon had his T & A out when he was 2 1/2yrs old. they were enlarged, he used to get tonsilitis a lot plus they then caused sleep aponea and he used to snore the house down.
the difference after they were removed was amazing. recovery was pretty good too.
i am still doing tupperware but slowing it down a notch. i did it as a Manager for 2yrs then 6m stepped back to demonstrator, then a few weeks ago i got a P/T job as a receptionist at a chiro/podiatry. the shifts are really good 3 x 6hr shifts a week so farso good!
Nixon goes to preschool 2 days a week, both boys go to daycare 1 day a week, they both do swimming, then Nix goes to speech & OT therapies once a week.
whats everyones plans for the 4th birthday's?
we are having a party at home for Nix and doing a Mickey mouse clubhouse theme, we have been doing some outside reno's and trying to finish most of it in time for the 17th April!!
