Charlie Routine - He feeds every four hours during the day. Normally we are up at about 8.30. then feed at 12.30-1 then again at 5 and at 9pm - he goes to bed after this feed and normally up at about 4-4.30am then our day starts all over again at 8.30am - he is pretty much set to this. He hardly sleeps during the day. I walk everymorning for 2 hours after his morning feed and he normally sleeps in the pram for that time but other than that he will have a 10minute catnap every now and then. It doesn't bother me though coz he will just sit in his rocker for a couple of hours or play under his jungle gym thingy. I find if he does have a day of sleeping then i am up all night with him.
Sushee - I don't have a swing but then charlie is pretty content to sit in his rocker for hours and belt up the stars and moons that hang from the toy bar ( he is doing it now.
Anna - that is a great routine but it would annoy me to have to feed every 2 hours during the day. But the night time sleep you are getting is unreal.
Nickers - that was great of nixon to sleep - it is amazing how good you feel after a good night sleep. Today i have walked 12km and painted the kitchen and planted the box hedge out the front. now i have to tidy the house.
Forgot to say Congrats on the smiles you got the other day.
MultiVitamins - I have started taking womens energy vitamins that are advertised on TV at the moment - I have been on them for 2 weeks and I seem to have heaps more energy now. Just thought i'd let you know - for those of you feeling run down - might be a good idea to try some vitamins.
Getting Charlie to sleep after 4am feed. - Does anyone have any idea on how i can get charlie back to sleep after his 4 am feed - sometimes i am still trying at 5am. Last night i fed him with the lights out and it only took 20 minutes to get him back to sleep - i have been changing him before i feed him - he screams the house down - but oh well!!! - when i change him before it means we don't have to get him out of his sleepyness after the feed. What does everyone else do?
Photo CLub - Here in Portland they have a photoclub at the chemist once a month. It only cost $5 and you get 8 or 9 different photo's. I just got his first ones back - they look sooo cute. ( have loaded it on WWW.) Does anyone elses chemist do this?
-
Jacci- When i feed Nixon during the night/early morning, yes change nappy before the feed, i keep the lights off or low/ don't talk to him/ cuddle him on my chest while burping him which quiet often puts him back to sleep, a couple of times ive put him down b4 he has brought everything up & he hasnt settled
-
Theresa,
you must be exhausted, not to mention poor Georgie. I hope the trip to the Dr sees her getting her meds right for her, poor little'un.
Jacci, I feed every 2-3 hours during the day too. Plus Charlie sleeps very little in the daytime. Plus he won't sit on his own for more than 5-10mins at a time. Plus he only sleeps about 4-5 hour stretches during the night too! I'm sooo envious of you! Lol
-
Sushee - you poor darl - plus you have to run around after a family!!!! - I am not envious of you!!!! LOL...
Nicers - i will have to try and not talk to him - but he's just so cute at 4am!!!!!!
Theresa - really hope it gets better soon and they can work out the meds for you
-
And I'm already thinking about trying for another, Jacci! That's coz despite the lack of sleep and lack of 'me' time, I take one look at my baby's gorgeous face and I get over it....well, most days anyway! Lol!
-
Sushee - DH and i were talking just before about wether we were going to try for another and i think we will just stick with one till he atleast reaches 3 or 4 then we can decide. I will only be 29 by then so i still have years to decide..
Will you have to go through IVF again?
-
With Holly's early morning feed (anywhere between 4 & 7am), I do what Nickers said. Lights low, don't play, quiet, boob, burp, change (wakes her up for the 2nd one), boob, burp, bed & she's off. But if DH is up getting ready for work, we see DH for a while before continuing feed. She then sleeps for another 3-5hrs.
-
shell- my DH likes to get charlie out of his room and bring him into our bed at 6.30 before he goes to work so he can have a cuddle. its soo cute.
chrlie has a wake up point of 6am and there is no getting him back to bed after that - he will lie in his cot for another hour talking to himself then after that he'll have a hissy fit if no one goes ang plays with him.
nicers - did what you said last night (all dark and no talking) - worked a treat - i fed him at 3.30am and had him fed and back asleep by 4am. thanks.
-
Glad that worked for you Jacci!
Nixon got his 2month immunisation needles thismorning. DH took him so i didnt have to watch the needles (seen enough going in and out of him when he was born!) DH said he was a very good boy and hardly even whimpered when he had the needles! He must be tough from all the ones he had in the begining.
I was a bit concerned last night his voice (well u know what i mean) sounded different, like more crocky as if he was loosing it or had a cold. But with no other symptoms temps fine, temprament normal etc etc, lady at clinic told DH that they cries do change and you'll determine the different cries to what he needs. I understand this but had anyone else noticed a change in voice if you can call it that?
-
Jacci,
I'm 36 already so don't have the luxury of time anymore. And yes unfortunately it'll likely be IVF again, which is why DH is very reluctant. My ob told me that it's possible my tubes may have unblocked during my pg, but with my luck, nothing that easy would have happened!
Nic, I can't say I've noticed a change in Charlie's voice, just that he went for quiet little 'newborn' cry to full on loud 'baby' cry in the last couple of weeks. I suppose if Nixon seems okay otherwise, it may just be one of those things.
-
Sushee - I hope your tubes did unblock whilst pregnant.
Nic - I haven't noticed any changes in crying - charlie has been running a bit of a temp and has been doing green poos - i rang the CHN and she said he had a tummy bug but as kong as he had wet nappies - which he has heaps off - then it was ok. hope little nixon isn't coming down with anything.
-
Hey ladies (and gent! :) ) For anyone that is worried about the immunisations, I found with Maddy feeding her whilst having the injections (if possible; if not, immediately after) calmed her very effectively. Even the MCHN commented that she settled from screaming very quickly because of some booby. HTH! :)
-
Hello April Flowers ...
Theresa - so sorry to hear that Georgie is still having problems. I hope your latest technique helps a bit in finding a solution.
Beck - WM is due for his first vac on Wednesday. Will try to time it so that he can have his bottle straight afterwards. I was looking at the Children's Panadol magnet I got in my Bounty bag and wondering if we will need any of it this week. =)
Sush - that would be an absolute bonus if the pg had unblocked your tubes. Did the doctor explain how that works? I'm curious. =)
Jacci - hope Nixon is doing okay this morning. Also re the cries, WM's voice sounds a little husky from time to time so not sure if that is the same as Nixon. The theory I read (in "Babylove") is that their vocal cords are only tiny and hoarseness can be a common problem for a while. WM also has different cries for what he needs. He makes little meowing noises "ow ow ... ow ow ow" when he's just a bit whingey as opposed to the full on "Waaaaaah" he was doing when first born. It's seemed to come at the same time as him responding to me when he sees me so I'm thinking it's just the next step in communication if you know what I mean.
Shell that's a good early morning plan. That cuddle in the morning is just the sweetest isn't it? Also, I checked out your site again and have to say I really love the black and white photos of you, DH and Holly. Just beautiful.
Anna - good luck with organising the christening! Hope it all goes well. Re the weight, I have gained weight since the birth as well. My appetite is ENORMOUS and I'm not breastfeeding so I'm not sure what my excuse is. Strengthening my willpower muscles as we speak! =)
Re the Bonds suit discussion ... I have noticed that they are smaller than other brands. The other clothing in the Bonds range seems to be a bit better in that regard, possibly because they don't have the feet restriction.
Went to the Myers sale the other day. It was our first town outing. I haven't been into the city since March which was strange for me after having worked there for so many years. Took WM in the Hugabub and moved him to the stroller after lunch. Worked like a charm. There were some nice baby clothes for sale so picked up a few things in size 1 for next year. I was thinking as I bought them that the in between time will pass so quickly and he will be wearing them before I know it.
He's sitting out on the floor in the living room, smiling at the light fixtures as we speak. Nothing like a full tummy and a clean nappy is there?
Hope you are all having a great weekend. It's a bit cold here in Melbourne. I'm looking forward to my visit to Queensland next week. Three weeks of sunshine I hope!
Mel
-
Mel- think you me meant re: Nixon & not Jacci!
i have the baby love book but keep forgetting to use it when i want to find out something, so i'll have a read thanks. i dont think he is coming down with anything as there are no other symptoms and he seems happy in himself
hey just uploaded a few more pics of nixon. one in his swing which he likes!
Theresa- let us know how Georgie goes on Tuesday if she is not more settled before then, i can imagine feeding & expressing plus Em must be leaving u with NO time for yourself
-
Hi Ladies
Well, here's hoping for night #3 of sleep. After all the fuss on Friday (where we couldn't even leave the house to go to the parents group), Jordy has been sleeping like an angel... both nights have only had 1 wake, ie bed around 6 or 7, up around 12ish, then at 6ish - woohoo !!!
Jen & I have noticed a change in his voice too
Had mum up for the day - and think I might have scored a parking ticket whilst waiting for her at the airport... bloody hell, was in a side street normally reserved for Hire Cars - heck there wasn't one in sight... Need to check whether the "Traffic Management" belonging to the carparking company can issue em... I saw him noting my number plate (I think).
Anyway, mum reckons he's grown heaps, and coped a heap of smiles. She sooo loves seeing him (pity she lives in Melbourne - well all my family do)
Will upload some more pic's to Jordy's site (eg swing) when I get some free time... Jen wanted me to come to bed now, but she'll be watching Big Brother, so I said I'll go after that
Hope everyone is having a good weekend, and to whoever was going to Qld, hope you have a great holiday
-
Nickers sorry ... I think it's the hormones (that's my excuse anyway =)
-
I think charlie has the flu. He is all snuffly and has been up since 1am this morning - he is grumpy and has a blocked little nose. i think i will have to go get that fess for little noses.
Panadol -v- Nurofen - we gave charlie panadol last week and we think he was aleric to it.
So i will have to go to the chemist and get some nurofen has any one else had the trouble of there child being allergic to one or the other?
-
Hi guys
Jacci, I hope it's just the snuffles and not the flu! Poor bub!
just back from Chartlie's imm shots, and I swear I think it was worse for me than him! He cried that high pitched 'I'm in pain' cry and I almost went to pieces :crying: God I'm soft! Don't remember being like that with my first three...
Right now he's just dozing on the bb, and seems okay, but I got him some Panadol JIC he does get unsettled later.
Mel, re the 'unblocking', Dr explained that pg causes a lot of expansion in your reproductive organs, and has been known to stretch the scarring that blocks the tubes, clearing the path, so to speak. He even showed me pics of two sets of twins born 15 months apart to a woman who had tubal disease, 1st set conceived by IVF, second set by accident! Her tubes were also completely blocked.
The only way I could find out for sure is with another HSG, but I'm in no rush to find out, to be honest. If it happens, it happens! If not, I've still got one snowbub left in the freezer! :crossfingers:
-
Jacci, hope bub's better soon.
Theresa, hope u get answers re: allergies.
Sush, that wld be great if ur tubes have unblocked.
Thnx Mel.
-
morning all.
charlie gets his first set of needles today......... i am a bit scared for him. e also gets weighed and stuff so i'll let u know the stats this arvo.
we had a good night sleep last night. - fed him at 8pm and he woke up at 1.30am - i gave him his dummy and he slept till 4am then fed him put him back in his bed and he put himself to sleep (don't know how long he was awake for herd him gooooing and gaaaaing for a while - then i fell asleep.) and i am just feeding him now - so he has just woken. i can live with this amount of sleep!!!!!!
hope every one is well
-
Jacci wow Charlie had a big sleep last night! How good is it to get a big sleep yourself though! we went alright bottle fed 9.30pm top up BF 10.30pm and slept till 4.30am. it was weird i woke up thinking gee havent heard him, looked at the clock was about 25past, put my head back down and within a min i heard him starting to wake up...
-
I just figured out why Charlie wakes up on cue at 11.30pm every night! It's when DH turns off the TV and the lights and goes to sleep. The sudden quietness must wake the boy up! Lol!
I never noticed coz I usually hit the sack the minute Charlie does at about 8.30pm. But last night I stayed up to watch the Socceroos and then was too pumped to sleep. The minute the TV and the lights went off, Charlie started to stir, and DH said 'Oh there he goes again'. Apparently it happens every night! So now I'm thinking maybe it's time for Charlie to move into his own room.
Jacci, snap! I also found out a few days ago that if I fed Charlie, changed his nappy, burped him and then just put him back into his bed awake that he would coo himself to sleep. Saves me pacing the room trying to settle him! Now if I can only get him to do that during the daytime! Lol!
-
nickers i think i jinx myself at night time. like u , i wake up in the middle of the night and think - gee he's still asleep and then 5 mins later he wakes up.
sushee- coz my charlie is in his own room now i don't mind if he talks to himself for a while.when he was in our room he used to talk to hiself all the time and it would keep me wake. i think i am very lucky in the fact that charlie puts himself to sleep during the day too, i put him in his rocker and then i might go doi something and come back and he is asleep. the only downfall is when he is hungry he is uncontroble to stop his crying - he will scream until u put the bottle in his mouth. and i mean scream!!!!!
groucho charlie - i sent a photo of charlie with a groucho mask on to a few friends. within a week i got an email saying "check out this baby" it had been sent to everyone and i had got it back - was very funny to open it up and see my own baby. i will put the photo on my web page - it will b a great 21st photo!!!!!!
-
Jacci, we had to give Janae nurofen as well coz she would just vomit up the panadol. I think you can give it from pretty early on.
oops, gotta go little man needs me, do more personals later.
Bel
-
HI everyone!!
Hope you are all doing well and all the bubs are doing well too.
We are doing great here. Abbey seems to be growing up so fast.
Sorry for no personals but i just have a quick question for Abs.
How easy is it to set up a random number selector on the computer. I remember that you did something like this while trying to pick a baby name? We want to have a members draw for chris' work but don't know how to go about it. We need to be able to add member numbers and eliminate some as well. If you could help it would be great but if yhou can't i understand.
Thanks so much.
I will pop in to say hi tomorrow and catch up on all the bubby news
-
morning everyone.
Charlie had his 8 week check up yesterday.
Born - 3210g (7pound 1ounce) height 51cm head 34.5
8 weeks - 5820g (12 pound 13 ounce) height 60cm head 39cm
He is growing great and she said he has unreal neck control - it never drops anymore -he can hold it up all the time. He had his injections yesterday - he didn't cry when they happened - but at about 1.30 am last night he decided he wanted to have a sook he didn't go back to sleep till 6am - oh well - he is back to his normal self today.
Charlie is getting Circumsised on saturday - my DH is taking him - i don't want to be there - it was bad enough watching him get his needles.
I had to go to the hospital last night to get 2 ingrown hairs cut out of my bikini line - i tell you what!!!! i have 16 stitches all up and the pain is worse than having your stomach cut in half!!!!
Theresa - i will check out the nurofen and find out when i can use it. - his stomach goes really hard and his poo is the colour of army green and he sooks all the time ( not like charlie at all) i went to the chemist and they said to try a different brand other than panadol - like the chemist brand - coz it could just be the mixture of ingredients and the other brand might have the tiniest amount less of something and he would be fine. The pharmacist wants me to try the panadol one more time just incase it was coz it was his first time. I feel bad giving it to him half knowing it could annoy him, or upset his tummy.
Seperation - Saturday night we went out for tea and i thought i would leave Charlie with mum.... I lasted a whole 2 hours and then i had to go home and see my little man!! - Gav said i was even getting pale - i had stomach pains - then the minute i seen charlie i was fine. Its not that i didn't trust mum its just that i had never left him before other than to play netball and DH would look after him - that doesn't count.
All you ladies with other children - Does the seperation get easier???? - it felt like someone had cut my arm off!!!!
Anywho - i better go tidy the house - charlie has just put himself to sleep in his rocker.
Have a lovely day to all.
-
Hi All,
Nixon & I just got back from a mums & bubs aerobics class and it was lots of fun!
He was by far the smallest & youngest all the other mums were saying oh cant believe how fast they grow! they all asked how old he was, i had to tell them he was 6 weeks early after saying 8 weeks old cause i could see they thought s##t he is smal!!
Anyway there was about 17 bubs we put them on the floor in the middle & did work out around them. we did push ups over them, sit ups holding them they all just thought it was play time! it wasnt too intese work out but great to socialize & see other bubs. most were 4-7months
hmmm the old circumsision debate, ive just been chatting to my june buddies bout this, im still undecided, going to talk to Paed on Friday about it, DH wants Nixon to get done. what do they do? do they give them a needle to numb the area or something?
Funnily enough i havent suffered with the seperation anxiety? not counting leaving Nixon with DH ive been out twice and both times enjoyed having a few hours off.
Theresa- sorry you have to give up b/f when you did not want to, but as you said you cannot keep trying to eliminate things from your own diet & Georgie is happier then thats the best way to go. I hope your asthma is under control & feeling ok
Jacci- were the ingrown hairs that bad? i guess so if you needed them taken out @ hosp. ouch! 16 stitches was that just from cutting them out? was it due to the c/s?
-
Hi ladies
sorry been MIA for a couple of days... been busy with work and stuff
Jordy had his shots yesterday, and was fine... the staff at the imm. centre were fantastic. one was keeping Jen busy, one kept me busy, and 2 did the shots (one in each leg). He sooked for a few minutes and then was fine
The nurses couldn't believe how adorable he was :D
Amanda, I can write something pretty easily if you like... it can even keep track of the names/numbers... someone will need to enter the detais initially though - do you have them written down somewhere. I can do the initial load if you like... the program can then maintain the list. How many members are you looking at ???
As for the big C... Jen was dead against it, I was probably more for it than against (guess most guys of my age would have been done), but apparently these days it's fairly rare, other than for medical reasons. And I have heard of males of all sorts of ages, even into their twenties and beyond, needing to be done. A thing that kinda made the decision was that with it being fairly rare, is that if Jordy was done, he'd be the "odd one out" when it came time to being around other guys - change rooms etc
Jacci, re separation - Jen had to go to Brissy for the day a few weeks back. She wasn't too good either. She was only at the airport (been away from home for under an hour) and wanted to come home again !! But she went, and she survived. Her mum was here looking after Jordy during the day til she got home... well holding and feeding him. I'd do any required nappy changes though. No way would Jen (or I) leave him with her without one of us being here. My mum on the other hand is not a problem at all (though she's a bit far away to do that without major organisation :p)
-
nicers - the aerobics sounds like fun - we start our mothers group tomorrow - that will be good - get to meet new people. the ingrowns were there before i got pregnasnt - i had been having IPL instead of waxing and it had made my hairs that soft they couldn't push thru.
my best friend is called Nicers but i call her nackers - do u ever get that name???
my nephew had to get circ at 18 months old - i remember the pain he went thru. it was an easy choice by gav and i - plus my mum works with old people and she said they are always getting infections later on in life but it really is personal choice
-
Theresa, that's great news on Georgie's improvements. Hope u can get ur asthma under control though.
Oh no Jacci, I guess u'll be needing a nap today to catch up. Ouch on the ingrown hairs.
Sounds like u had fun Nickers, that's great.
Well the last 2 nights, Holly has done really well, gettin used to this cluster feeding. Tue night: fed about 9/9:15pm, put to bed 9:45pm, up 8:45am. Wed night: fed about 7:30pm, put to bed about 8:15pm, up about 8am. Still putting on weight nicely, was 4.8kg dressed Tue (10wks1d, usually deduct 150/200gms for bare). Went to 1st mothers group at CHC Tue & 4th mother's group thru private hosp Wed, great to get out. Everyone keeps sayin how small she is compared to their bubs, but I don't notice it, not until I come home & hold her & look in mirror, but she wasn't premmie & is still healthy & in acceptable range (25% ile).
-
shell - charlies head is in the small range so is his weight - but his length is long - i asked the MCHN and she said it just meant that charlie was going to be a small framed boy. I get people telling me all the time that he is soo small. - my ingrowns would feel a whole lot better if charlie didn't keep trying to push up on my chest and keeps pshing un my stistches!!!!
-
Shell, we too are getting better nights sleeps. Jordy is still crashing out around 6pm through til 11-12pm (Jen did that) - last night there was another feed at 3.30am (my turn) and he was up again at 7am (Jen's turn) - ie when it's my turn, it's bottle only, no booby milk
Jac, I had heard the term ingrown hair before, but had no idea what it meant... now I know, Jen doesn't touch her hair growth down there
-
hehe it's really our pleasure to help remind you Theresa... you are going through such a rough trot with things. But then you and others having gone through things helps us out too - so it works both ways
Meant to ask this early... tis something I touched on a little while ago. Jen is sooo adamant about having Jordy in our room for the whole 6 months thing - she's now been told this from about 3 different unrelated sources
Who has and hasn't moved bubs out yet (for those that have, when was it - for those that haven't, when do you plan to ??)
-
Abs,
Charlie is still rooming in with us. I would like to move him into his own room, but Karl won't have a bar of it. I don't push the point too much coz it's nice to not have to walk down the hall to his room whenever he wakes. And the last couple of nights, he's gone 8pm to 2.30am, then 3.00am to 5.30am, so he's sleeping through the 11.30pm 'wake up' he used to have. So as long as he can sleep through the World Cup matches Karl watches, I'm happy for him to keep sleeping in our room.
We've agreed to move him into his own room once he moves from his cradle to his cot, which should be in the next 2-3 months.
-
Abs - charlie was in his room at 6 weeks - it makes my life so much easier - i am the type of person who hears every noise so its good now to get some proper sleep. Also i wanted to get charlie intothe habit of putting himself to sleep - i didn't want to be still rocking him to sleep at 18 months ( one of my friends is having that problem now!!!!) I feed him at 4.30 am and then cuddle him for a few minutes - put him back in his cot and close the door - I have the baby monitor - he talks to himself for about half an hour then drifts of to sleep. we just had our mothers group today and one of the mums has a 3 month old and she still sleeps with them in the middle of the bed.
Theresa - is it something in you or your husbands family thqat causes your girls to have stomach - eating problems - just wondered how people get it and stuff. Hope they get little em's poblem under control. Hope the asthma gets better - gav has it and it scares the hell out of me when he has an attack. I heard it is hereditary(sp?) does Em have it? Sorry sdo many qst
-
Jacci, Zaki co-slept with us exclusively until he was 18 months! Lol! (And this was long before co-sleeping was accepted) And Charlie co-sleeps with us from 5.30am to around 7.30am every morning too. Now I'm older, I find I don't sleep as well with a baby in bed with us, but I do love my morning snuggle!
-
Hi,
i know about bub getting called small everywhere i go!!
Nixon lasted 1 whole night in our room! i never really wanted to get him in the habit & did not get sleep hearing all his noises. (but he was already almost one month old)
he sleeps in his bassinett in his room, but we do sometimes bring him in for a cuddle in the mornings if i don't have to get up or be anywhere.
Ive just had a nap with him now actually!
-
Abs.. thanks for that.. we have over 800 members. We are going to see if the companys IT person can do it and if not i'll let you know. Thanks again for the offer.
As for having bubs in the room with you Abbey is still in our room but only till she outgrows her bassinette. Hoping it lasts almost through winter. She puts herself to sleep even in the room with us so not worried about that. I like having her so close and don't know how i'll go putting her in her room. She doesn't keep us awake either. She has been sleeping through from 2am ish till 11am ish which has been great.
Theresa.. hope you em and georgie are feeling heaps better soon...
Shell...cluster feeding at night is easy to get used to when it means they sleep for heaps longer after isn't it. I wouldn't worry about people saying she is small. I have people saying how small Abbey is and she's over 5kg already.
well i better go feed this baby talk to you soon :hello:
-
Abs, hehe, everyone's diff. We were adamant that Holly was to remain in her own room in a cot, as heard stories from others about issues from trying to move a bub into their own room later. For us it's working well. :)
Good to hear Jordy's sleepin better, makes a big diff.
Theresa, hope everything sorts itself out, u r still havin a rough trott.
Bout weight, funny thing was a work colleague & his wife & 6.5mth daughter dropped in the other day, she was 5.5pnd born full term. I mentioned that Holly is in 000 now (only fits 2x0000 outfits which are big makes) she said wow holly is huge, her bub was in 0000 until 4mths, hehe. She also said she hasn't been to any mothers groups so doesn't get to see other bubs. I love getting out & talking to other mum's & Holly loves checkin the other bub's out. :)
Hope everyone is well!
-
sushee - we have charlie in our bed for an hour or so in the morning before gavin goes to work - about 6am - i love a cuddle - him and i went back to bed this morning for a few hours - its me and charlie time!!!
Abs - the hardest thing i had to do was move charlie into his own room - i miss looking over at him and seeing him there.
Amanda - that is amazing that she will sleep till 11am - charlie decides it is playtime at about 6am!!! little bugger!!!
Theresa - gav has asthma and i wonder if it will be passed onto charlie .
