Yeah Squidipa, no donations until your babies are at least 9 months regardless, and after that if you are breastfeeding you have to wait until your baby gets most of their nourishment through solids i.e only doing one or two feeds a day.

Well today is chilly. And windy. And a major fire threat is for Healesville. Healesville is just to the east of us, and mostly bushland between here and there. There is a native animal zoo there - Healesville Sanctuary, and it would be devastating if the fire goes through there. Thankfully all the animals were evacuated on the weekend, so they are safe, but if they had nowhere to go back to it would just be a real shame.

Oh they've just said that they've downgraded the threat. Small sigh of relief. It is just so sobering all this.

Im sure you all know how to donate already but just incase the official donations appeal line is 1800 811 700. or at any ANZ, NAB or Commonwealth bank.

the affects of this are going to be felt for years to come! All these displaced families! i dreamed about it all last night!

On another topic, Grace had her immunisations yesterday and has had a temp of 38 since, has never had a reaction to them before but she is ok, just abit grumpy. Hasnt put on an ounce of wieght since the 23rd Jan, but im not too worried, with the heat and extra activity.

Wow, just saw that they have raised over $14 million!!! Isnt that increddible!!!!

MT... Wow, how scary for you and your loved ones. It is normal to feel what they call "suriver guilt" when you come so close to having it effect you- but you are ok. Be grateful, and glad that you are safe, and continue to be there to support your friends who were not so lucky. Huge :grouphug:
We are also close, but not too close the fires, the closest one is about 50ks away and is under control. We are keeping vigilant though, as stories like these warn us that circumstances can change in an instant.

you are right becka it will last for years and year plus i am sure that in years to come many cases of PTSD will be coming out of those area where ppl where. Look i cant even begin to truly understand or even imagine what they all must be going through so i wont even try but i do know what it feels like to have no home and be homeless sleeping in parks or random places i have been there when i was growing up I also suffer from PTSD. I pray that the ppl whom deliberately lit these fires get caught!!!!!!! I am SOOOO proud of everyone with all their donations and pulling together the way we all have to support these ppl.

Tonight as I drove down the road in to Diamond Creek I could see the hills very clearly. And could very clearly see the devastation up there. The hills normally have that blue/grey haze that comes with gum trees. Now it just looks like a black bald hill with burnt matchsticks sticking out. Over to the east the hills in the distance all have thick smoke pouring from there. More than last night. The roads are all still blocked off so no one can get in or out. Except the looters so it seems.....

Bec - I hope Grace's temp has come down now. Poor little mite!

Squidipa - I reckon you might be right about the PTSD. There are just soooo many people that were there. Right around the state. There is one poor town that seems to be getting told every few hours to prepare themselves to leave.... that must be ridiculously stressful.

SB - I'm glad the fires aren't too near you, and praying they don't come your way.

MT - don't worry about dumping, that's what we're all here for babe! :grouphug:

IMO, those people looting should be locked up - it's not like everyone abandoned their stuff, they did it to save their lives FFS!! I think it's sad that the homeowners and residents are having a hard time getting back to their properties, but these selfish imbeciles can just waltz in there and take whatever they like! :angry: DP commented today that the ones looting prolly didn't even lose anything!

Beck hope G is feeling better... a bit scared to get the 6 months shots, Beth was so unsettled after the 4 month ones.
Squiddy/ Beck it's awesome to see how much people have donated. I was listening to the radio and they raised $1mil just today. They had people phoning in from the affected areas and I was having a little cry hearing people's stories. Making sure I hold my baby extra close the last few days, thinking of all the people who have lost their loved ones.

Well had a shocker of a night here last night. Kye woke up like 4 times :( Dont know whether it is just because he gets hot? Gave him a drink of water and he skulled it back, guessin' he was thirsty :lol: He settles again really quickly but omg this morning I have a major headache and am so tired.

He's been waking up at like 4am the past few mornings too which is starting to take its toll on me. I gave him 150ml at 4:45am and thought I'll bring him back to my bed and the bugger is still asleep..geez! Must try and get to the bottom of why he is waking up as its starting to do my head in again! :wall:

Sorry to hear your having a few bad nights Sash i was talking to another mother i met the other day and she asked is G was a good sleeper, i said ''yes, she is pretty good, she wakes up two or three times a night'' turns out this ISNT so good...her jaw hit the floor! she couldnt belive she still woke up that much at night...and that i thought it was good! Oh well, i dont mind so much. She told me i should use controled crying to make her sleep through the night....i just smiled and nodded. Think il try giving her water at night when she wakes, maybe she will get bored of waking up for water and not bother! till then its still 10(11)pm and 2(3)am.

Ok...shower, breakfast, cleaning etc before the little munchkin wakes up! her temp is down now and she isnt so clingy thismorning. legs look painfull though.

I just want to say...even though im not really an Aussie, im so proud to live here and be an 'almost aussie' the way the whole country has pulled together and the feeling you get where ever you go, like you just know every one is thinking of the people affected by this, the money raised, the blood donated, homes opened to strangers and just the messages sent to the people in these areas.

Bec - Miss M wakes up (if she isn't still awake) for a bottle around 9/10pm and she wakes usually around 4. We stick the dummy in at 4 and that gets her through until around 6.30.

So I'd say your DD is perfectly normal - and I think Miss M is a great sleeper too. DS was a pretty bad sleeper - so I've had a bad one - believe me - THIS is good.

Been busy as per usual, have a lot of work going on and a lots to do with the house. Our pool was poured (concrete) yesterday and I have to go down twice a day to water it hehe, they are also doing all the gyprock on the house and it is locked up, so another step closer :)

N is doing great, she is consistently rolling from tummy ot back again which is great, but has stopped trying to roll the other way *sigh* one day....

We still give N a late feed at about 10:30pm, but unfortunately it has been me waking up during the night *SIGH* N has been waking between 6-6:40am with he first feed between 7-8am after the late feed. So I think we have a pretty good baby. I do the dummy in the early morning too. Once she has been on solids for another month we are going to bring that late feed forward, just 15min at a time for a few days, but is she starts waking at 5am we will go back to the previous time when she was sleeping longer. So I think it will be a while for us before she is "sleeping solidly" for 10 hours or so. A few mums in mothers group have had bubs sleeping through from very early.. lucky them :lol:

Huge Hugs MT, it must be so difficult where you are at the moment, I was looking at the images on tv last night and the ferocity of the fires is just hordendous, the matchstick trees, especially when the fire headed down a gully, the were all bent over as well, the power generated by that firestorms is just uncomprehendable.

I started donating blood about 6-7 years ago when I was working for the government and we were paid to do it, well just our time was covered. But I continued when I left, then after a while I switched to donating plasma. wish I could go back and donate my plasma, I used to go in fortnightly, if you don't know plasma is where they take the blood out, separate the plasma, through a machine and pump it back into your body, it take longer then donating blood and they take out more blood at a time, and the plasma can be used for a heap of different things. Where a blood donations can be done every 3 months I could do the plasma fortnightly :) But you need good veins for it a they need to stay open for a lot longer. Once I have finished bf'ing or cut back to 1/2 feeds a day I will be right back in there :)

Beckoes: Glad to hear that Grace's temp has gone down, N had pretty big lumps on her legs after the last lot of Imms.

Bec - I would consider G to be a good sleeper ... my first literally woke every two hours and I was surviving on 2-3 hours sleep a night for a very long time! #2 and #3 woke a few times during the night, so I think I have earned a sleep-through baby!! :rofl: Although he's been a bit off the last couple of nights - I think a combination of teething and his big brother throwing a toy truck at his head :rolleyes:

Heard on the radio this morning that about 13 mill had been donated so far ... I wish I could donate blood, but unfortunately (besides having a baby and b/fing) I have anaemia and with all the low platelets etc during pregnancy, they won't let me anyway :(

Hmm MM, I wonder if my low platelets would cause me probs with donating.. they are back to 148 now, not quite in the normal range but close enough ;)

Vic, prolly not, I think it's just cause all my probs compounded increase the risk to me! :doh:

well my head is all everywhere i found out to day i need some one to write me a character reference for the adoption agency and i need to have know them for 2 years and i left all my friends back in perth cut ties except one and i need a few references and i cant uses family. Soo um yeah all a bit stressed :rolleyes:about that plus my horn in my car while driving today went randomly off!:doh:

OMG Mountain Mummy - I weighed Beth today and she is 8.04kg :redface: She is bigger than Veygas! I wonder what they would look like next to each other now.... I'm sure she was much smaller than him when we saw you!

i dont know about any of u but ive strangely started to have nightmares of these vic fires anyone else having this??

Squidipa- I wouldn't say I've been having nightmares, but definitely been keeping me awake at night. If you are dreaming about it it means your subconcious is processing it for you cos it is too hard for your concious to do it.

Hey, gotta go out in a minute, but just wanted to jump on here to let you know that the call has gone out for mobile phones and chargers. Especially chargers as people got out of the fires with their phones, but no longer have a charger. I think the phone companies should come to the party on this one, but just thought I would let you all know. If you have any old chargers and phones that you don't need, and you want to donate them PM me and I will give you my address. I will drop them off at the drop off centre up the road.

Awesome Pixie. Yeah it seems the chargers are more in demand than the phones themselves.

I know they got the phone network back up and running very quickly in Kinglake, not sure about the other places though.

The other thing they are in desperate need of is feed for the animals, the livestock, horses, sheep, cattle, and wild bird seed. Bit hard to send that down huh? Probably also towels and bedding materials for the animals.

My friend, the vet up in Kinglake, has been messaging every day. Her message this morning said that all the people that have returned are amazing. They even have a laugh here and there. That is a bit heart-warming to hear. Much nicer than all the death and destruction.

I will have alook see if we have anyold chargers knocking around!! good to hear people are able to find somesort of normality in all this and have a smile. We went for a drive today from our house to eumundi and through alot of thick gum trees and what i imagine the area would have been like in victoria and normally when we drive through these areas i sit back and think how beautiful it is,but today all i could think of was what it must have looked like with the fires ripping through, putting the pics on the news with being in that kinda forestation made it all so really and to be honest scary! My mind kept drifting and id picture the fire balls jumping from the tops of the trees like you see on the news! This whole thing has really got into my head! Anyway, im trying to be alittle happier today, we are going to a fund raiser held by the local surf club near us on sunday so that shoul be good!

On another note, Grace is still super clingy, i thought it was from the jabs but that was three days ago now! She gets wingy when im not holding her , even if DH is holding her! She has never been like this bofre, normally really independant!

Kye had a much better sleep last night, still woke up twice - 930pm and 1030pm but he managed to sleep until 5am this morning - past few morning's its been 4am :o so I am feeling a bit less tired. I put a different blanket on his bed last night so I'm thinking the 4:00am wakeup's could of been because he was a bit cold :dunno:

Well its pouring down raining here, gee I wish Victoria could have some of this, they so desperately need it!

well, by the lack of acivity on here yesterday im guessing everyone had a nice valentines day.we didnt do anything, not really in to it. plus cant really afford extra gifts etc at the mo.
Grace is now saying mama...although doesnt realise why i get so excited. she is also up on her hands and knees rocking. and NOT SLEEPING in the day...its killing me i try everything and she just wont sleep, im frustrated and my patients is shortening by the day, she is still up three times most nights and is wingy and 'tired' all the time and impossible to make happy. she has started throwing tanties at most situations...going in the pram, sitting in her bumbo, laying on the bed, tummy time, not being held, being held, sleeping, not sleeping. i hope its something like teeth and i hope it hurries up. I havent done house work in three days and i cant leave her for a second and by the time i FINALY get her to sleep in the evenings its 7.30...i have dinner and go to bed otherwise i wouldnt get more that a few hours sleep. DH is working 8am till 7pm most days and all he can say about the situation is ''well thats just kids for you'' or ''well ive been at work for 11 hours today'' great help. i guess hes right.

Well, im sorry to have such a boring winge...especially when there is so much going on in the world that make my day seem like heaven but sometimes i just have to get it out. Grace is trying to type now so its getting difficult.

Hi everyone :)

Beck - I think its the age mate. They are just discovering so much of the world - who wants sleep!!! I just let Miss M dictate it - but its easy for me, cos she is happy all the time and only really cracks it when I try to get her to sleep. So usually if I can't get her to self settle, I'll get her up, try again in 15 minutes, and if it doesn't work and she's happy to stay up - I'll keep her up until her next bottle and then she'll go to sleep whilst on that. Not the most perfect solution, but if she's happy - I'm happy!!!

Guess your right Mel, DH always says she is like me, i hate when i think im missing out on something.
finally got her to sleep...but she has been up since 5am so youd think shed be exhuasted! i tried at 8am but was having none of it so got her up and we had a swim. i wish she would self settle in the day..im fact she has stopped doing it in the evening too, but i have no idea how to stop feeding her to sleep, where do you start, or do i even bother trying...is it really that big a problem....well, it clearly is if i cant put her down in the cot once she is asleep. is it possible that im trying to put her down too soon in the mornings, normally two-two 1/2 hours would be how long she would have between waking from the night and going back down, but i know they change all the time. i think il have to stop trying to double guess myself and take a step back...just relax and go with the flow, not think that i know whats going on!!

Jeez i just read that back and i sound like a crazy person!! lol .

Ok, im going to sort my life out before she wakes up again so im not stressing about things that need to be done!!

Beck :hug: babe.... its impossible isn't it. Sometimes DD can hardly stay awake for 2.5 hours and other times she can be awake for 5 or 6.
Friday night I was woken every hour either by Beth grizzling or by the Bear snoring. We both have a pretty horrible cold and after no sleep on Friday night we were total zombies yesterday. Didn't help that Beth is doing the 'sleep is for the weak' routine too. The only way we got her down yesterday was to take her for a 45 minute drive in the car because we just knew she wouldn't sleep otherwise. Then she was only down for an hour. Although Friday being such a dreadful night sleepwise really made me appreciate only being woken up once last night! The Bear kept saying "it's the best Valentines' Day ever" which ended up being pretty comical because he is feeling so ill, and we were both so knackered we could hardly see and Beth was refusing to sleep so we couldn't take a nap either. I pretty much have to feed her to sleep too or put her to sleep in the car seat or pram these days. She very rarely self-settles any more and cracks it when I put her in the hammock if she's awake. She did get a tooth through the other day so maybe that is something to do with it :dunno: But hey at least you know we weren't all out being wined and dined and bathing in rose petals while you were desperately trying to get G to sleep - I think we're all a bit in the same boat!

Awww big hugs Bec. I agree with Mel, she's just discovering the world, and sounds like she's quite independant and wants to do it in her own time on her own terms.

Jett is the same, there is no routine (except for poo on Mondays and Thursdays :lol:) but I have noticed how much he is changed, how much he wants to constantly see and do new things and it is exhausting. I can't stay home now, he's seen all that and is bored, so we go for walks or to the shops and check out new things there. He also reaches out now so I know what he has his focus on and let him touch and play with it before we move on. Impossible to get much done, but as your DH says - that's kids for you. I'm sure it won't last forever, but you'll just have to forgive yourself for not getting things done, but Grace is your top priority atm.

ETA: Oh and we didn't do anything for Valentines Day either. Never have, but kind of even slipped our minds that it was even on with all the fire stuff.
