Morning ladies,
We were up all night with Sienna, she woke for a feed at 8:30pm and was awake, feeding, crying and generally unsettled until 5:30ish am. We are exhausted & so is she. She is asleep now. I can't work her out. She feeds 3hrly during the day, with sleeps between feeds but night comes & she is a little monster. My poor bubba. We are off to the gp at 3:30, hopefully get a referral for a paed. We are also waiting on a call back from a sleep school.
Kirsten: I've cut everything out of my diet they say can cause colic, although I am eating wheat still. Maybe I need to try this. Great to hear your mastitis has cleared & so has the pain :) I got pain in my stitches when they started to heal youchies!
-
Babyluv, I tried to eat a scone yesterday to see if what would happen and Ivy was pretty unsettled till about 2am, so no more wheat for me for another few months I think. Worth giving it a try. Apparently wheat can really aggravate some babies tummies.
-
Hmm I'm going to give it a try, what sort of things are you eating? I feel like my diet is so limited, finding it hard to plan meals.
-
Just a quick one cause I'm feeding n we're in grafton for dinner... Almost at Coffs!!!!
I think my milk is coming in cause my boobs are huge!!! And they are getting quite hard!
-
Bexie sounds like your milk alright, hope you've packed breast pads, How's the trip.
Babyluv, I am eating mostly rice dishes and meat and veg dishes. muesli for brekky and salads with ham or cheese or something similar for lunch. I love wheat and miss bread and pasta but just not worth the unsettled baby :) What things have you cut out? I cut out tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and heaps of other vegies first time around with DS until I was eating hardly anything, then finally discovered it was wheat after about 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck!!
-
MrsBexie: Hun that's your milk coming in, just a warningvthey could get quite painful, I woke up in tears on my 3rd night with my boobs. If they do use heat packs before feeding and ice after, it really helps. Also if you find Charlotte has trouble latching because they're so hard massage the aereola for a bit before feeding, even express a little bit to soften them up a bit.
Kirsten: I've cut out dairy, tomatoes and all tomato based sauces etc, cabbage, onion, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower, beans, capsicum, anything that I think might have alot of artificial flavours, chocolate. I feel like there's alot I can't eat!
Afm: we took Sienna to the doctor today, he gave us infacol so we'll try that, gosh I'm dreading tonight, I don't want to be awake until 5am again I'm exhausted.
-
Yup babyluv definitely my milk!!! I had rock boobies this morning!!!! They are HUGE!!!
It sucks you have to cut out so much to find what's wrong but id def try wheat! Anything to see if you guys can get her settled!!!
You are doing an amazing job though sweets! As much as you probably dont feel like you are! I really hope you can get some sleep soon!
Kirsten: so no wheat for you either? Damn!! Lol but as you said it's not worth having an upset baby!!
Well I am soooooo grateful for last night. I was waiting and worried that we weren't going to get any sleep then have to go to the funeral sleep deprived! But cause my milk came in a little last night, charlotte had a big feed, bum change then a big feed on the other side and was asleep by 11:45am, she didn't wake until like 6:45 and only cause we were all up!!!!! 7 hrs sleep for baby! And amazingly in this crappy 2.5 star motel room, we have a king bed!!!!! I woke up quite a few times still because she has to sleep in our bed at this motel and I was worried cause she wasn't screaming! But she was fine snuggled in against dh's chest all night! I am so thankful, I would not have handled today well at all without sleep! I'm not going to handle it well anyways. I'm dreading it in fact! We went round to my nana's last night and just walking in the house made me cry. It's so wrong being here without grandad around!!
Well have to go hve a shower and give Charlotte her first one! And she just did a massive crap! Lol.
I might be on later to try to distract myself. :(
Love you all and hope everyone got some sleep!!!
-
Oh Bex,
It's a terrible time for you, I can't say anything to make it better but we are all here for you! Thinking of you, praying for you & hoping today goes as best it can xox

Babyluv: You poor girl not having sleep at night at all! I feel your pain some days. Claire fusses around more at night than during the day too but I've found that it's because she's hungrier at night for some reason. She gets up for a feed then fusses around to go to sleep and soon before I know it it's 2 hrs since the last feed (she takes an hour to feed usually) and it's time for another feed again. I've started building up my EBM supply in the fridge during the day so that DH can feed her if she's still hungry after a feed so I can get some rest. Hope the infacol drops work for you.
Kirsten: Do you just get brewer's yeast from the supermkt beer making section? Do you just add a little to a cookie recipe? I get that sharp shooting pain when claire latches on too and have to try hard not to swear. But yes it does subside after a few seconds. I found that it really hurts too when I bath or when anything rubs against them. Yay to Ivy putting on good weight. Hope u beaties are easing off slowly. I was lucky not to get them during and after pregnancy.
MRs Bexie: Lots of big HUG for you during this difficult time. I'm glad Charlotte slept well for you last night. I found the cold compresses after feeding really helped with the sore boobies. I actually loved that feeling coz I know that my boobs are producing good milk for bubs :)
We're into day 2 of expressing after every feed and boy it's exhausting! So we feed for an hour then settle for another 30 mins then express for 30 mins, then clean the bottles then it leaves me about 30-45 mins before the next feed. But glad to say my supply has increased indeed and I found the best thing for my supply is sleep. After a nap, my breast always feel much fuller. She's starting to be more settled during the day after a feed just on feeding from the breast so I hope that's a sign I'm starting to produce enough.
The MCN came yesterday and she's put on a whooping 240grams since last Thursday so she must be getting enough. I'm looking back at the photos we took just after birth and she already looks a little different. :)

Caixin: you can get brewers yeast from health food stores here's the recipe
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons flax seed meal
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups oats
1 cup chocolate chips
2-4 tablespoons brewer's yeast
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350°.
Mix the flaxseed meal and water and let sit for 3-5 minutes.
Beat butter, sugar, and brown sugar well.
Add eggs and mix well.
Add flaxseed mix and vanilla, beat well.
Sift together flour, brewers yeast, baking soda, and salt.
Add dry ingredients to butter mix.
Stir in oats and chips.
Scoop onto baking sheet.
Bake for 12 minutes.
That pain is unbearable when they latch. mine lasts about a minute. Last night a piece of my nipple actually came off, it hurt so much I cried, then again everything is making me cry these days :D Yay for Claire putting on such a good amount of weight, you're certainly not starving her. Glad you've got your supply happening too!
Bexie: yay for such a big sleep, makes you feel almost human again doesn't it. Although probably not for you with such a sad day ahead for you. And yep no wheat for me, but that's ok, I'll survive, I will just substitute it, I have the technology and the knowledge to make up a substitute flour that works well in breads and cakes etc. Doubt it will make very nice pasta but will do for everything else.
Babyluv: how did you go last night with Sienna?
AFM: got spoilt today, DP took me out for lunch to a fancy place on the pier with a table in the shade with a beautiful view, and I had sushi and more sushi and some raw tuna as well :D and a glass of champagne. Ivy slept the whole time and DS was very well behaved. It was just lovely! And "DS and Ivy" gave me a gorgeous hemp dress!! So spoilt!
-
Kirsten: sounds like you've had a lovely birthday :)
Hope your poor nipple is not hurting anymore today, that sounds excruciating!
Sienna slept really well last night, only had an hr of crying & she woke 4 hrly for feeds :)
She's really unsettled today so who knows what kind of night we're going to have, I'm scared!
She is on infacol & I think that's what helped last night, she is cluster feeding right now and crying alot :(
-
Caixin: yay to her being more settled!! Sounds like a pretty full on feed routine but as long as it works!!! You have to post more photos of Claire on fb! Are you still being looked after like a queen?
Kirsten: yay to a great birthday!! Ooh your kids can pick good presents *wink* lol... Mmmmm sushi! I haven't had any yet xause there is no where around! Maybe we'll stop in brissy on the way back! Boo to sore nipples!!! Sound sooo painful! :( fx it goes away soon! At least the mastitis has gone!! Now you just need your nipples to grow tough!!
Babyluv: how did sienna sleep? How is BF going??
Afm: yesterday sucked! It was pouring all day! They had a viewing at the start n we almost missed it (stupid servo attendant!!!) but Charlotte got introduced to grandad which is what I wanted. She was so Good all day feeding n sleeping with all the noise around! And barely anyone asked for a hug which is awesome so I didnt have to offend anyone! she was pretty unsettled last night n wasn't feeding well before bed but I got her on both sides and expressed afterwards to try to relieve the pressure in my MASSIVE boobs! They are so sore and rock hard! Been massaging them heaps n got a heat pack last night so I can hopefully stop mastitis! But my god they are huge boobs...
And charlotte slept from 12:45am to 5:15 is when I work her up deliberately for a feed... Hopeful she will go back to sleep for another 4-5hrs!!!
Oh and anyone with stitches, did they sting really badly on day 4-5?? Mine started stinging again yesterday (it's not my pee doing it) and feels like I am tearing again or something!! My mw checked them wed abs Sao they were fine n healing nicely so I don't think they are re-tearing but would it be that they are dissolving so pulling a little? Just trying to keep them dry, washing in rock salt in warm water, panadine n the arnica pills...
-
Oh n just posted my birth story too if anyone wants to read!
-
MrsBexie: glad to hear Charlotte got to meet her great grandad and you were there to say goodbye at his funeral.
try massaging and hand expressing a little in the shower. Apparently the massage is key to avoiding mastitis. My stitches got sore like yours, a sharp stinging pain. You're right they're pulling as they heal. Cpl days and that will go just keep doing what you're doing. When do you head home? You must be so exhausted!
Afm: Sienna woke up 2hrly for feeds, better than having her scream all night but still can be improved on! Feeding now & hoping she goes back to sleep cause I'm exhausted.
How's everyone else?
-
Babyluv hope you get some more sleep!
MrsB you sound like you are doing so well! Wish there was something i could do to help! All this to deal with and your first baby! Hugs and like i said give yourself a pat on the back, you are holding up beautifully!
-
Thanks teagam!!
How are you doing?
-
Haha this is way TMI but I'm excited!
I was soo scared of my first "bowel movement" and I just did it!! Yay! 5 days later.... Hurts but glad it's over!
Lol....
-
:leap: YAY MrsB always a great milestone to get over and done with!
We are doing well, really dont have time to be anything else with the other three kids. Loads of outings and visits the last few days and a friend is coming to stay tonight... then i think i have earned a quiet weekend!
I hope you are planning a few PJ days when you get home??
