Hi Carole,

Sounds like Jake is doing really well - it's great! His behaviour sounds really normal for 9 months old - starting to talk in his own language, going through clingy patches, becoming mobile - you're doing such a great job! :)

Emily has a different routine than Jake - up until today it was quite similar to ness's babys' routine. It was:

Wake can be any time after 6am, but she plays in her cot usually, and often dozes until I get her up
7.30am BF in bed
play with dad in bed
8.30am breakfast - porridge and fruit, vegemite toast and finger food fruit
play
9.30am/10am nap (30-40mins)
play
11/11.30am BF
12.30/1pm lunch (protein and vegies, finger food fruit, biscuit)
play
1.30/2pm sleep (for up to 2 hours)
3.30/4pm BF
play
5ish small snack and water
6ish dinner (carbs and vegies, fruit/yoghurt for dessert)
6.30ish BF
7pm bath
7.30pm bed
10.30pm BF dreamfeed (will be cutting this out shortly)

We've just moved house two days ago, but in the lead up to moving, day sleep was getting very tricky for Emily - taking up to 30 minutes to get to sleep during the day, and only sleeping for 20-30 mins in the morning, and sleep after lunch was dropping back from 2 hours to only an hour or so. The day after we moved in it took her over an hour to get to sleep after lunch, and she only had 30 mins sleep, after a 20 min sleep in the morning, so less than an hour sleep during the day in total. Not a happy baby, as well as bad teething and a bad cold! I know the move has her unsettled too, but her sleep was already changing in the weeks leading up to our house move, so today I thought I'd try and see how she'd go without her morning nap, and have a slightly earlier lunch and straight to bed after lunch - this worked really well - she was quite tired late in the morning, but got over it before lunch, and she had well over 2 hours sleep after lunch, and went to bed fine at her usual time tonight, much easier and much more rested. So it looks like Emily is down to one nap a day now, if she continues like today! Any other babies down to one nap a day?

We're crawling here - and our new house in much MUCH better for exploring (we lived in a lovely quaint cottage, but totally unsuitable for a mobile baby) so she's really getting into moving around quickly! Also furniture cruising, and I don't think it will be long before she's standing on her own, as she can let go of things for a moment or two as she's cruising. Very fussy a lot of the time - I know the move hasn't helped, but she's been teething for the best part of two months - waiting for what looks like 6 upper teeth to come through, as they're all bulging front-ways through her gums. Poor bubba :( She babbles away much of the time when she's feeling okay - lots of fantastic sounds that are often really funny, like explosive raspberries, lispy sounds and many dadadas and bababas and nenenenes etc. lol. Ocassionally mamama too.

Hope everyone is well - we don't often come in to the thread I guess, but it's nice to come back every now and again and hear how things are for people!

I'm constantly amazed with how fast this year has gone, especially since when Jake was a newborn time was nearly standing still with all the feeding feeding feeding (up to 14 times a day) and no sleep n the unrelenting heat of Melbourne (40+ for many days in January).

But no we have a very talkative (read loud) crawling standing inquisitive baby and time just flies.

Jake is now onto 2 sleeps a day, about 3- 4 hour in total which is nice, and daylight savings is a boon for me...he sleeps later in the morning and goes to bed in the 7 - 8pm timeslot. Unfortunately he still wants a breastfeed around 11pm and 4-5pm most nights.

I'm back at work 2 days a week, which is also seeing me cram a lot more into our 3 days at home (weekends entirely different with Daddy at home all day).

We've been to the pool a handful of times, and now we're going to try lessons, which I'm sure he will love, he loves Gymbaroo and playing with other kids at daycare.

Food is getting better, he is a little fusspot and I have to try a number of tricks to get him to eat ut he's getting nough booby time so he's still gaining weight at a good pace.

Hope to see you all in here agin, some other groups are very active, and it's great to have some other people to complain and congratulate on our bubbies achievements and mishaps.

Think Jake has finally gone off to sleep, no more dadadada from his room, best have that shower before it's too late

I was just thinking how we never post in our own thread lol

Sounds like Jacob is doing so well. Very similar to Byron. We are noisy also, crawling around and into EVERYTHING! Still breastfeeding and having a night feed also (usually around 4am) but occassionaly gets up for a midnight one too :rolleyes:

Daylight savings has been a good change for us too and Byron was starting to wake earlier and earlier so is now back on the 7:30pm bed and 7am wake up. We are having 2 lovely long day sleeps of 90-120 mins which makes for very happy baby and very happy mummy!

Byron has 4 chompers (2 x top and 2 x bottom) and he likes to use them lots. He is a biter which is a bit of a problem as i'm still getting used to disciplining him. We dont smack here - although i did smack his hand lightly when he tried to stick his finger in the power socket - so its very repetative saying no and trying to get him to understand that biting in not on. It hurts and i'm covered in teeth marks, i hope he grows out of it soon.

I'm still not back at work but planning to return 2 days next year, still waiting on what days he is in at care. I secretly dont want to go back as i am enjoying him so much but if we want to have more children then we need the money now to save, next baby i will resign as i will probably stay at home for a few years.

MrsB26, we're going through very similar sleep patterns here- not sleeping through, usually wants a feed at midnight and somewhere around 4, and also having 2 long sleeps each day, which is fantastic- although not at daycare as it's too exciting, he often only has 1 sleep there, a short one at that. So if I can, I pop him into bed for a sleep when we get home, around 5.00 , 5.30, which just keeps the crankiness down :-)

Hey, what are you all buying your little ones for Christmas?
My MIL bought him a walker which converts to a ride on, I've bought an activity table at the target sale (which I might give him now as he needs some safe standing up fun).
What are other good presents for 1 years olds?
We're doing a birthday Kris Kringle for playgroup, so we are keeping the costs doen- plus as these babies are all firsts, they'll all be spoilt rotten by family anyway

Before I had Jake I was on a mad crafty craze, and made a few things, and started on a cot quilt- just last night finishing the quilting, and now about to do the border- I thought if i don't get onto it he'll be in his big boys bed before I finish it! I hadn't tried doing any sewing when he was asleep as I thought it would wake him up, but nup, sleeps through the noise!

Jake's top front teeth are emerging, which is great as his side teeth had come through first, and thought we were going to have a little vampire, but they haven't descended too quickly :-) Luckily, he's not biting me, but he is getting into all kinds of mischeif, like pulling on electrical cables and playing with the dogs water etc. I am saying NO alll the time, (moving these things out of his way where possile. He does stop and look - and then does it again! A friend told me she flicks he little boy on the fingers, it's more of a shock than pain - maybe that would work with Byron? I'm not going to be a smacker, but they need to be safe.

We've joined up a swimming class, but missed our first lesson due to bronchitis, and may be away this weekend, which will be 2 lessons paid for and not used. :sigh:

Can't believe he will be 10 months in 2 days, might try to sneak over to the MHC and get him weighed etc.

Hope you and your babies are all doing well. Just wanted to say how quickly it feels this first year has gone by. Our little ones are nearly 1 and will be turning into toddlers before we know it!

I have loved every moment so far and am loking forward to what the next year brings.

So how are all the 'toddlers' doing now?!

I don't really like calling my DS a 'toddler yet. He's still my little 'baby'!

Well, he's not walking yet but crawls around very fast. He can stand up against furniture and is holding on less and less. His little legs are getting strong! He is very curious and opens everything he can (doors, drawers etc) and emptying the contents which is driving me absolutely nuts.

As for speech, he says "da" or "dada" for dad and cries "mumumumumum" for mum. He's trying to say open at the moment but it comes out "op a" (so cute as he concentrates alot to say it).

He eats as much as me and i'm a big eater. I have cut his bottles back to only 3 a day, about 250mls each one. I am planning on cutting out the midday one soon though.

He has been having 2 naps but is currently waking up 5 or 6am in the morning so i think i might try putting him down later for his morning nap and aim for just the one nap. He goes to bed at 7am sharp and i don't really want to make that any later for the sake of my sanity!

He is very affectionate, loves kissing and hugs. He doesn't want to play with his own toys at all at the moment. He is always after what i have, a pen, magazine, notepad, coffee, catalogues etc. Although he does like reading and looking at his books.

So what are your little ones up to these days?

P.S. Bit scared i may be pregnant again! Was hoping for another year or more before doing it all over again...

Really good to hear how things are for you and DS :hug:

We're pretty much where you are in many areas! DD's into everything - most especially things that aren't toys :rolleyes: and her speech is much the same as your DS - she can say "Dadadada" and "Muuuuuumumumum" and "Mummy" but only when she is whinging lol. She's currently trying to be Miss Independent so won't try to copy words even though she was trying to up until recently - just has her own amazing babbling language that cracks us up a lot. She understands a lot though and enjoys pointing out body parts, and finding/picking up things we direct her to like shapes and different toys, and pointing to things in her books (loves books too!)

She has been walking since Boxing Day, although being quite a cautious, sensitive soul already, she only prefers to walk when someone is on ground level with her so she can come and bump into them like a dodgem car lol. Feels less confident when no-one's nearby to back her up, but is getting better and exploring on her feet on her own now.

We've been having one nap a day since October, although it has been a tricky transition from 2 to 1 nap that took until December to fall into place. Now she has 1-2 hours nap during the day, but I wake her after 2hours otherwise she's very difficult to settle to bed until much later. She generally stays awake for about 6 hours after her nap before she's ready for bedtime.

Finally dropped her dreamfeed (decided to drop it when we were recently having some bad nights) and she now seems to have decided that she generally doesn't need to feed at night anymore unless she is unwell/teething. So we're down to 4 BF's a day now, generally. 3 solid meals and a big morning snack before nap. She is very fussy with solids now after a bad run of ill health (she had tonsillitis followed by a bunch of viruses, then bronchiolitis with a nasty secondary bacterial infection verging on hospital admission/pneumonia) and awful teething that just went on and on for months (and is just starting again), but I keep working at what she's prepared to eat and we're doing okay, I guess.

She's a gorgeous girl who's the light in our lives - and her little personality is shining through every day - cheeky, bright, but very sensitive and shy at times. She's very attached to mummy and daddy, won't generally go to anyone else, but we love her even more for her attachment to us!

We are currently TTC#2, but we are doubtful of anything happening in reality until we go through more IVF treatment with our embryos in storage in Australia. We will keep trying until then though - every chance is still a chance.

I hope things work out with TTC your next bubba, JB, whether you are pregnant or not this time. If you aren't, there is always the time when it feels right - as you say in a year or so - but if you are then it's a lovely surprise and a wonderful way (even though daunting, I'm sure!) to have a new addition to your family. Acacia, it sounds like your daughter and Sam are at pretty much the same regarding speech. We have a lot of mummum and daddad, and that's about it. He's following simple instructions already, which I think is brilliant!

When it comes to sleep he gets up for the day around 7. Has his first sleep around 10am and often sleeps until 12 or 1. Up then until his afternoon nap which is normally 4-6 and then down for the night at 9pm. I know it's a late bedtime, but DH wasn't getting home from work until 6 so it worked for us. I've just gone back to work in the last few days, DH is now a SAHD for 4 days a week with Sam in daycare for Fridays. I'm so looking forward to being able to leave work and collect him this afternoon!

He started walking just after Christmas as well. He was mainly just standing up and letting go before that. After having dinner with friends who have a little boy 4 months older Sam decided that this walking thing was a really good idea. We started to get shuffly steps, and he'd push his walker around the house. Within a week of Christmas he had ditched the push along walker and was walking across the room without assistance. He now spends his days toddling around the house - he's happiest if he can find a random object (it was a plastic box yesterday and the lid to a large metal can the other day) and carry it around the house with him.

Three bottles per day and three decent solid meals. Each bottle comes before a sleep, and he sometimes grabs snacks during the day. He's a regular little seagull - every time we eat he insists on having some as well. He'll always try it, won't always eat it. We had trouble getting him to eat fruit for ages, but it's suddenly clicked in the last few days and he's happy to eat bananas and nectarines now. Eating more and more of our food and less and less "baby mush" which is great.

We still have some issues - it appears that one of his testicles has only partially descended and while the paed is happy to watch and wait, I'm not so sure. I think it's the result of having had to go through IVF to get him - I'm absolutely paranoid about anything that could impact on his future fertility.

No plans for number two here - It probably won't be on the agenda for at least another year. My health issues mean that having two children in nappies could be really hard. Having one child more independent before the next comes along will be much better. I have to be off one of my arthritis medications for at least 6 months before we start anything, and I'm just not ready for that yet! However, there is part of me now that Sam is so grown up that would really really love to have another baby ASAP!

Hello everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Jacob is not walking without support yet, and is somewhat reluctant to walk even holding our hands, although he is improving with his gait, bending his knees now- last week he looked like Frankenstein's monster lurching along. Although, I am starting to suspect this is a blessing in disguise, with all the mischief toddlers can get up to.

Poor Jake has been sick with coughs and colds on and off since March, and is in the middle of a throat infection that is making my lovely happy sweet golden boy a whingey wuss, and I have not been able to work my whole 3 days a week since starting back at work on 11th Jan.

Jake too is on 3 bottles a day, and eats breakfast lunch and dinner, he only has snacks at childcare cos the other kids do. He's at a good weight and eats lots of fruit but need to get his vegies up to keep his iron levels up.

He is still sleeping well most days or nights, and usually can go to sleep without a fuss on his own, although it has been interrupted by his sore throat and needing to medicate in the middle of the night.

Very interested in books and loves playing with other kids, so always happy to go to childcare when I am at work. Will be doing swimming and gymbaroo again this term, with a special 'sign say and play class', which is like Aus-sign for babies. Hopefully he shows some interest.

He really has been a joy in our lives, and love all the excitement associated with a baby/toddler in the house, even though I must be looking 10 years old and am still 12kg heavier!

I will be a very proud Mumma when he walks, might be sometime this month. I know, be careful what you wish for!

Carole, I'm really sorry to hear Jake has been sick. I hope he gets better very soon. I'm a bit worried about sickness and stuff with Sam in daycare now - but so far so good, despite the little girl with the nose running thick green snot last time he was there! It will be interesting to see which of us gets sick first - I'm back working again but I have a compromised immune system and have been out of the school environment for so long... but the teenagers I teach generally know not to cough or sneeze on someone!

:hello: everyone. Oh my how the time gets away. Our little ones are getting bigger everyday. Its so good to hear about how they are and what everyone has been up to. I often think of you all and our dec bubs.

BW - Sam is walking! Thats wonderful! Sounds like you and your dh have a great arrangement with work and care. Hope you first week back at work was ok for you all. I started back 3 weeks ago and i know how hard it is. As you said though, its wonderful coming home to see them and even better that we now get those excited squeals and smiles that they usually reserved for when daddy got home from work!

Carole, thats no good that Jacob has been so ill :hug:. A busy boy, with swimming and gymbaroo and Aus-sign! Its great to see them get so much enjoyment out of all the fun activities.

Jellybean Our sons sound very similar. I cant do anything without the 'help' of ds. Its cute but does drive me nuts sometimes.

Well Byron is kind of walking lol. He will walk between dh and i just fine but tends to 'fall' in our arms when he gets near us. He stands by himself and uses everything and anything as a walker - including our garbage bin! Yuck!
As for food. Well, he eats whatever we eat and is curious about food. If i am eating something he wants some too. We have 3 meals plus 2 snacks per day. He is down to 3 breastfeeds per day. Sometimes 4 if he is teething or unwell.
I have been back at work for 4 weeks now and he goes to daycare those 2 days. He seems to really like it there and has settled in well but i have noticed that he is a fair bit clingy in the few days following which is fair enough.
I am currently expecting #2 which came as a wonderful suprise. Af only just returned on xmas day and we decided to start ttc straight away jic it took a long time like DS did. We felt extremely blessed when it didnt :)

Pleased to see you and your babies are doing so well, I look at Jacob now and remember how little he was this time last year, in a size 0000/000. He's much better, he went to childcare Thursday and Friday of last week, and Monday. We're on our mid week weekend, I work Mon, Thurs & Fri, which seems weird but it's 3 business days in a row, and Jake still gets to go to Gymbaroo and playgroup on Wednesdays.

We missed the sign and play first week as I had to go Sydney for the day - I've just donated some eggs for a friend, and we're waiting to see how many are good enough to implant/ freeze. I'm very excited that we got some, I thought I'd stuffed up the final hormone trigger!

He's watching me, whilst eating his vegemite toast - don't know how he keeps growing, when there's so much of his food in his bib/ chair/ on the floor when he's finished.

Congratulations MrsB, very exciting news for you. Jake is also utilising various household items for walking, especially the laundry basket on castors.

BW, I hope you are enjoying being back at school, term 1 is a short one!

Hi lovely mummies...

I haven't been in here for so long and i don't really get on BB that often TBH!

It was great to read that everyone is doing so well and we all have well adjusted lil bubba's...toddlers!
Jaxon has been walking for quite sometime probably close to 4.5 - 5 months now, both my boys were early walkers and it's not necessarily always good. He is more of a runner now and is trying ever so hard to keep up with his big brother, he likes to pick up objects an throw them which we are desperately trying to get out of him atm and he is a chewer too! He babbles alot and was starting to wonder if he should be saying more but pretty much what everyone elses babies are doing so i think it is fine. I think we have finally got him sleeping through the night, he slept through 9 nights in a row and then woke up two nights and the last three nights have been all nighters again....we are definately breaking the habit now anyway. I let him do it on his own and i was starting to wonder but he has come through for me:dance: The only problem we are having atm is him climbing onto everything from dining room chairs to coffee tables, his activity table basically anything he can flick his leg onto really.. I think we may have a champion swimmer on our hands, i have never seen a child swim so good so young ppl are just gobsmacked when they see him swim, he even swimmed out to daddy in the ocean the other week all on his own with his vest on, he swims the length of our pool we don't really need to help him at all in the pool we just sit there and supervise him really!

Have just joined BB and was wondering if anyone out there had little ones born during this time and was directed to this group.

How are all the little ones going now that they are 2 and well and truly toddlers not babies anymore.

Would be interested to see how other little ones are sleeping and if anyone else has experienced any trouble with night terrors and difficulties getting them to sleep when they have preivously been no problem.

My boy has been a pretty good sleeper for a while now, and the only real issue is that he went through a period where he was waking every night and needing to come in with us. He was waking absolutely covered in sweat, so it was pretty obvious that he was just getting too hot. We fixed that by putting a fan in his room. We have the odd time where he has trouble going to sleep, but he always has one of us with him - it doesn't worry us, so we just do it.

Our issues are more related to food. He's barely eating - I really don't like seeing his ribs stick out, but he seems healthy and still sleeps ok when he refuses to eat dinner, but it's still stressful!

It is very hard when they dont eat. We have the same problem as well. We find that he is not interested in breakfast when he wakes up and so we wait a while and then try and offer him food. Sometimes he will eat an hour or so after hes woken up and other times he eats nothing. Lunch is pretty much the same. Not much interest. Have found that he is liking lasagne at the moment so quite often will offer him that for lunch. 1/2 the time he will eat it and half the time he picks at it and doesnt really eat much. Dinner is the same again. He will sit and look at it. Sometimes he will have a few mouthfuls and then is over it and refuses to eat. I was worried and spoke to the dr and she said that as long as he isnt losing lots of weight and is still growing some kids are just like that so to just keep a close eye on his weight. He has just grown taller so looks skinny particularly in his legs as they have lost all the baby chubbiness now. He also looks very healthy and has lots of energy so we just keep persisting and offering food and hope that one day he will eat it.

We are the same he doesnt really sleep badly whether he eats or not. It has just been these since these terrors started we are having trouble getting him to sleep. We have been told that they dont remember what happens to them during the night but think it is strange that he now doesnt want to go to sleep when previously he has been really easy to get to sleep. I am wondering if he is remembering partly and is afraid to go to sleep now because he knows what might happen. He sleeps usually 12 hours in total overnight so there is no problem with him when he is asleep except when he has a terror.

Oh well just another one of those challenges we face as parents. As long as they are healthy we all get through them.
