Hi all,
Yup, Kaz, we want Millie to be a big sister. Hopefully a couple more? We'll see what happens :) Four of DH's 5 siblings have 4 kids each! One planned on 3 but got twins on the last pregnancy :) There's no medical issues in the way for us, and at 32 and 33 it's not inconceivable (haha) that we could have 2 or 3 more by the time we're 40. Hooray for your uninterrupted dinner! Isn't it awesome when that happens? I was starting to eat like a pig for awhile there - stuffing my food down pronto before Millie woke up. Things have settled down quite a bit. Oh yes - and happy birthday!
Jules, don't feel embarrassed by the crying. I think people can see how little they are and most people are understanding. Mind you, a young couple got up quick smart yesterday when DH and I sat down with a squalling Millie... but they were replaced by a lovely old couple who were so sweet :) (She had a bottle in her mouth by then and was her usual sweet self.) The lady was a retired primary school teacher who said all the Amelias she ever taught were very bright :) *proud parental glow*
Hey MadB, sorry you have thrush too :( I used the gel in Millie's mouth, Mothersafe recommended daktarin cream on nipples but I used MooGoo antifungal cream. It worked pretty well.
Myboys how is the zantac panning out? I'm starting to wonder about reflux with Millie too - it's not a constant thing but she occasionally does very biley-smelling clear spews... could explain her snuffly nose and occasional coughing as well. I will see the clinic nurse on Tuesday and pick her brains then.
I hope you can spend Aiden's b'day as a family. It astounds me how selfish the most wonderful DH can be at times. I desparately needed a big block of sleep last night so asked DH to take the night feed (he was planning on getting up to watch his German team play football at stupid o'clock anyway). He agreed, but when Millie woke up, I of course got up too - automatic, I thinkI was out of bed before I even really woke up. He held her while I got her bottle ready, but when I came upstairs thinking I was going to go straight back to bed, he handed her to me and said, "I have a headache, can you do this feed?" Then told me not to look at him like that!! WHAT? I have done every night feed since birth, headache, boob ache, fatigue be damned, and I ask for ONE NIGHT off now that she's on formula, and you wonder why I shot you a filthy??? Saturday night is the one night I feel okay about asking - Sunday through Thursday nights he has to work the next day, Friday night I figure he needs to wind down. No wind down time for me, apparently.
Gosh, sorry. Had to get that one off my chest.
Anyone else having trouble sleeping (when you actually get to put your head down, I mean!) Millie is sleeping well at night. Not great during the day, but generally very good at night. I'm not sleeping so well though. I find myself dreaming of her - the other night I woke in a cold sweat, I dreamed that people were chasing DH and I, and they took her out of the back of the car because they knew I'd get out of the car if they had her. I lie awake for ages after she's fed and settled making sure she doesn't stir. I have real trouble sleeping during the day, and often when I do get down for a nap, Millie wakes up ahead of time so I don't get to it. So I am feeling very fatigued - last night's little spat didn't help matters at all. I talked to him a bit about the fatigue today... not sure if it got through.

Picketty – Great to hear from you again – sounds like you’re figuring things out over there, we all have bad days but sounds like you’re managing just fine. Connor is such a good boy only getting up twice during the night!! And going straight back to sleep? That’s great!!
PP – When you use fess on Millie, do you use the little sucker part or do you just use the spray? I’m too scared to use it on Jacob, I feel like all I do is put things down this poor little boys throat for the thrush that I can’t bear any extra treatment to him at the moment. Feeling isolated over here too, I am so far away from family and friends back home and although I have a few friends that I’ve made here it just isn’t the same as being with people I really know. I feel sad cause I’d love to be sharing Jacob with family and friends, instead of being stuck in these four walls just him and I. Hope you enjoyed your beer and yay on your mum coming to visit! Hope you have a great time. :) I’m hearing you on the fatigue…I don’t get a break over here either – even if I have an expressed bottle, DH has long gone to bed and doesn’t like being disturbed so I just don’t bother any more, I have just resigned myself to the fact that I’m going to be there for every feed. Men just don’t get it sometimes do they…they often have good intentions but I don’t think they really think things through.
Kaz – Excellent news on the 25 mls! Keep up the great work!! Happy Birthday too!! Hope you’ve had a wonderful day!! :)
Myboys – I know you weren’t meaning to whinge and neither am I, but that sounds pretty typical of a male…I have been thinking the same thing about my DH – he’s able to just go to the gym, out and about where ever he likes whenever he likes and doesn’t have to worry about a thing! I love Jacob and all the time I spend with him but it’d be nice if he’d make some sacrifices too! I hope you can come to a compromise for the weekend. Wow!!! Three hour sleep!! GO HARPER!! What a good girl she was for her mummy :) here’s hoping it’s a sign of things to come :D
MadB – sorry to hear you have thrush too! It’s the pits. PP and Millie had it too but they were lucky enough to beat it without too much trouble I think! I was giving Jacob Nilstat, Daktarin Oral gel for my nipples and Daktozin for his butt and this has been going on since just before Christmas!! But it’s now been changed that I only give him Nilstat twice a day (to help with the bottom side of things) and oral gel four times a day that I have to rub in his mouth. I called 13HEALTH the other day to ask how long it should take to get rid of it and she said 7-10 days!! Yeah right… it’s been going for sooo long. I am apparently doing all the right things. I even use bicarb on my nipples every day and put vinegar through my wash cycle (all recommended by the health nurse). I hope you start having results quicker than me.
Best be off, Jacob is still fighting sleep so I think it’s time I just take him to bed with me so we both get some rest!

Jules - with the fess, we use both parts. I had some horrid trouble getting Will to stay attached, he was a bit snuffly so I used the fess, and it didn't feel like we got anything out, IYKWIM, but he was no longer snuffly and attaching and staying attached. So may be worth a try for you???
You know something that's weird? With Pip, I didn't co-sleep. I used to have horrid nightmares though that I had suffocated him in my sleep - and that was from when I was just playing with him on the bed! With Will I co-sleep, and no nightmares - go figure?

Thanks for that Kaz! Gave it a shot as Jacob has sounded snuffly also and he has been breaking off while feeding quite a bit... Wow, what a difference!! He sounds loads better. I don't mind co-sleeping occasionally, it's sweet having him so close by! Didn't need to last night though, he was fast asleep by the time I put the computer down and stood up!! He is such a faker sometimes!! :lol:

Hi all,
Jules, I use the drops if you're worried about the spray being too invasive. The saline is probably the gentlest thing you could give him though - it's non-medicated so I feel okay using it. She doesn't like either the drops or the sucker much, but she forgives me once the boogers are out. I'm trying to be a bit preemptive about it now - if I at least give her drops before a feed she tends not to wake up yelling after it.
I did think of you today while I was out walking, knowing how far away you are from town. I was able to walk to the shops for Gloria Jeans and a new can of formula, so told myself to smarten up and stop feeling so sorry for myself. I guess when I moved out of the Eastern suburbs (I gradually moved further and further west, I'm now about a 40 minute drive away) my life started taking a different track to my old friends - they are still out at trendy bars and restaurants every other night, working stupid hours to afford it, and I'm hanging out with my baby girl baking banana cake and sewing a quilt. I wouldn't swap for the world!
Kaz that is interesting about the dreams. Mum always said she was way more relaxed with me than with my sister, perhaps you just feel more relaxed second time around?
Amelia refused to settle downstairs in the cool. I took her upstairs, where it is quite warm, and she settled right away. Go figure... she's in a singlet, nappy and light wrap with the fan on, and I keep checking on her... out for the count. Crazy baby.

Will slept for 5 hours this morning - plus he upchucked some BM!!! - during that 5 hours he was put into the car capsule, out of the car capsule and into the cocoon, out of the cocoon and back into the car capsule, out of the car capsule and back into the cocoon!!!! Then he finally did a poo .... arck.

DD's pooed a few times today - thikn her tummy might be a bit upset. looking a bit extra runny & mucousy. lovely. she's asleep again - wish she'd sleep at night time though.

I just had to put Millie in a 000 suit! I picked up a 0000 romper that fitted perfectly last week and it looked just soooo tiny. She's looking pretty in pink roses :) getting her weighed and measured tomorrow which is exciting. Our nurse is lovely but I know she'll be disappointed for me (for me, not in me) that bf hasn't worked out. Last time I saw her before Christmas it was all going so well.
Kaz you asked a little while ago about ways to boost milk supply - someone on another thread suggested Aktavite. I wish I had known about that, I was drinking litres of milo but I love Aktavite so could have had that instead :) even if it desn't work, it's yummy :) Awesome that Will slept through all that activity!
Myboys did the drive work?
MadB what do you think could cause her upset tummy? I hope she gets better soon.

PP - Thanks for the info on fess, I was brave and gave it a shot, worked out well! I'm more scared of the sucker part!! I definately envy those of you that can just walk down the shops - we do have a foodworks here that's more like a corner shop (sooo expensive and basically no stock) so we haven't been down there in almost two years! Emergency supplies we just buy from the local service station. We are leaving today to go up north for our appointments and mum and I are going for a walk up the street for something different for me to do, I can't wait!! (small things huh?!) Your comment on your friends made me smile, I feel much the same about mine...I always read on FB about how they're going here there and everywhere and they're drunk, hungover etc...and I am just so glad that's not me! (never really was a wild child anyway). We have the best deal going, being blessed with our little ones I believe! :) 000 already...I am getting to know the feeling, Jacob has so many 0000's he hasn't even worn yet and they are so stretched length wise...Good luck seeing the nurse, I'm sure Millie will get a wonderful report - can't wait to hear how her weight gain is doing! I love little girls outfits, I am going shopping for some girlie things on Thursday as one of my best girlfriends had a little girl yesterday! They called her Bailey and she is only 170 grams heavier than what Jacob was!! (2.9kg!) Can't wait to meet her.
Myboys - Sorry to hear you were having a rough day yesterday, did the drive work for Harper? Hopefully you're having a good night to make up for it...
Kaz - 5 hours!!!! Gosh, I can't even get that at night!! Go Will! :dance:
MadB - Hope Miri's tummy is doing better! What sort of sleep do you get out of her at night? I can get up to two hours straight but rarely beyond that...he feeds between 3-4 hourly during the night but it can take an hour by the time he feeds, has a nappy change and settles...
All good here - no updates - still no major progress with the thrush of course, leaving to go up north today, cannot wait to get there...my family is going to see such a massive difference in Jacob! Best be off, have to finish packing before Jacob wakes up so we can get on the road...thankfully I can sleep in the car zzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm finding even the 000 suits are a bit small now, but that's partly due to the big nappies too.
I'd guess it's probably the daktarin stuff that's upsetting her tummy. The good news is that the white fur is receding! Hope you can get rid of your thrush soon Jules.
Last night was pretty good - she slept 3, 3 and 2 hours, now dozing off again. usually she's up a few hours struggling with her wrap and grunting (really loud!), if not crying, but last night she didn't do too much grunting so I actually got some sleep too.

An interesting perspective on Fess ladies (after my enthusiastic endorsement yesterday!! well the paed and LC thought it was super), the clinic nurse said this morning to only use it for 48 hours max IF the child has a cold and it's all green goo etc - she feels that it overstimulates the mucous membranes, making them produce more... suggested giving Millie a few days without it and seeing how we go. She didn't weigh or measure her this morning as she was sleeping like an angel and is clearly gaining weight - she wanted to talk to me. She was really supportive about bf-ff transition and did the Edinburgh (sp?) test again... I'm borderline. She thinks it is mostly just "grieving" over the bf weaning and normal adjustment, but is most concerned about the insomnia. While she doesn't think I need immediate referral she asked me to consider getting my GP to refer me on, apparently you can get 8 psychologist sessions covered by medicare under the post-natal scheme, which is good to know.
Jules I bet Jacob will look really big next to Bailey already :) I hope you got to sleep in the car, have a great time with your family!
Off to a friend's for afternoon tea today :) then ZUMBAAAAAAAA tonight. My sister wants to come too :)

Pixie - There's 8 with the PND, then that can be expanded twice more if your medical teams wish - which pretty much means the psych recommends it. I do hope you are OK, we do have a depression & anxiety support forum here on BB which is really handy to talk stuff through on, cause you find out you're "normal". Insomnia's not fun at all, I can't get to sleep with mine, too much stuff running through my head.
Interesting to know about the Fess. Shame you're not up here in the hills, they are having a Zumba record attempt to raise money for flood victims, they're trying for > 1000 people!!! I don't know how you're doing it, I have just started up with my Wii and yoga on that - and today I hurt!!!
Geeze Jules, you must be setting a record for longest thrush I reckon, I do hope it clears up for you soon. I hear you on the walk to the shops thing, I can see the shops from my house, but for the past 6 months haven't been able to walk to them, and even getting to the local shops is a hassle, then it's hilly so too painful to walk around. Enjoy your walk today, have a lovely afternoon tea or summat!!!!

Still in PJ's here too Kaz :lol: I get up, get the kids dressed, start trying to clean up and just never get around to dressing myself before Harper wakes again then it's way into the afternoon and i'm still not dressed. Someones coming to clean the house at 9am tomorrow :o Better be organised.
I'm a bit frustrated today, i'm feeling like a bit of a failure for Harper, nothing is working and she just seems unhappy. I want my little girl to be smiling and gooing. Trying to get onto an osteopath and no one is answering or don't treat babies, no luck their so far either.
Anyway off to make a #4 bday cake for Aidan James's party tomorrow. I've also put in a request to change my username, just waiting to have the lovely ladies do it for me.

Quick update!! So excited, Jacobs tongue is basically clear and no rash on his bottom!! Think we might be having success!! I think we should have been using gel from the beginning! Nilstat is hopeless!! Oh and picked up the pram and capsule and Jacob has been out of it since we put him in!! Think it's a winner!! Have a lovely day everyone! Xoxo
