PP - yay for the interview you will get the job, when do you leave form your holiday? Yes please put some photo's up of your quilt i wish I could even sew a button. My Hubby does all the sewing and ironing as he was in the navy for 12 years.

Jules - Just go with the flow that's what I do with Charlie Boy, the rest of the tribe have a routine in the morning and in the afternoon if not it's MAD,MAD.MAD.

Crumpet - if you want to prepare (just in case) what you need when you call an ambulance is your name, address, phone number and nearest cross street. Also any identifiers if you live in a difficult area. Call from your home phone when possible, cause if you can't remember those details, they can get the number from the official database. Same as when you're visiting someone, always call from the landline.

6 month formula? Curious, our MCHN told us to stay on the same formula as there's no need to upgrade, it's just a marketing ploy. Unless the medical professionals have suggested changing formula, you can stay until they wean. And our MCHN told us not to use the toddler milks either, more marketing ploy. More than happy to discuss my thoughts on toddler milk if you say the word!!!!

anyhows, it's now midnight. Went to my SiL's 50th tonight, Pip was adorable as always, and Will was (literally) passed around the table. It's OK though, cause it kept him amused!!!!

I do hope he crawls, Pip never crawled - it'd be fun to see!!!!

Kaz i have always been told/heard the exact same thing about formulas. The 6month + is just a marketing ploy (so freaking frustrating, it's our babies health they are using to make more $$$$) And when Aidan was no longer breastfeeding i asked the dr about the toddler milk because my attitude was that if he'll benefit from it i want to provide it. But the Dr said no it's more so for little ones with growth issues who need the help or who aren't getting a sufficient (sp) diet.

BBL girls, long night with a snuffly nose DD. Lots of feeds and therefore restlessness from me. Sooooo tired :)

But, that being said, I just ordered 5 tins off Chemist Warehouse, lol.
I'll probably start introducing cows milk after she's one.

I don't see the MCHN (only for injections), as she has never dealt with premmies or Gastroschisis. She had massive issues with Hannah's growth rate and feeding portion, and telling us to take Hannah off Zantac/Ranitadine. While she was 'concerned' about everything, the Childrens (her physio, OT, and more importantly - her surgeon) were excited over Hannah's progress. One of the side effects of Gastroschisis is that bubs have a very slow growth rate. Which is why at 6 months old, she's only about 5.5kgs. Off to weigh her in the next couple of days. I know that by being on the Gastroschisis Support page that Hannah is progressing well and if her surgeon is happy, then we're happy.

Hannah is being lovely. Although, she's in bed now, I can hear through the baby monitor that she's trying to poop, its hilarious. So I guess she's not having a big sleep. She's had an hour, so I guess that'll do, lol. We're going out again tonight (schnitzel night at the pub last night, and tonight Nana is cooking a roast.) so I was hoping that Hannah would sleep as much as possible today. But hopefully it'll all work out so she's happy when we go to Nana's.

Anyone had their injections yet? Not looking forward to it. Hannah gets so grumpy, but at least (for once) DP will be home for that whole day so he can experience post injection meltdowns.

Crumpet - I'm thinking that maybe it wasn't the yogurt that cause Hannah's disgusting nappies, as she did another one this morning. I'm thinking its just her body adjusting to the 6mo formula. We ran out of newborn, so had to move her up to 6mo, but only a week early.

Crumpet calling the ambulance was just a split second decision that i decided was the right thing to do. I've done it a few times at work when there were car accidents out the front so i knew what to expect. I'm a pretty calm person but was panicing at the same time. It all happened in a matter of minutes really from Harper waking, seeing her coughing and gasping for breath, knowing i couldn't get her to the hospital on my own but it being necessary for her to go so i called an ambulance. It was instinct i suppose, if the time ever comes for you (hopefuly it doesn't) but if it does just stay calm and just trust yourself to do the right thing.

please go to town on the whole changing formula thing becasue i have no idea, Summah is 6 months next week and i dont think we see her MCHN for a few weeks, although we have needles so will see her paed next week so i can ask him, but any extra info is much appreciated!

Routine: we have a flexible routine.

generally we get up at the same time every day, bottles food and bath happen at the same time every day, but sleeps meh if we are home she will be put to bed, but it im out i just let her do whatever.....
but it have a routine for me not her, coz im anal and like to know whats happening and when! :lol:

AFU: we had a very exciting night in our house last night!

Summah can sit up by herself unassisted for around 30-60 second mark!!! :clap:
was so weird seeing her sitting there!

plus we had our first attempt at finger foods last night!
i had wanted to do BLS with her but was just not confident enough, so last night after i didnt mash her potato enough and she managed to chew the lumps no issues at all, i thought id give it a go.....
chopped her a chunk of banana and pear and we failed.... it was to slippery for her! :rolleyes: just when i was good to go!

will try again im going to get some sweet potato and steam some chunks and see if she can hold that!

Re formula, I understood there's a difference in the proteins (whey vs casein) and some extra iron. No idea what difference the proteins make, but the iron is better sourced from actual food anyway. The iron they put in formula and fortified foods (like rice cereal stuff) is very difficult to absorb, which is why it tends to cause constipation. Does it cost more than the other stuff? If so, it's almost certainly a marketing ploy.
As for toddler milk.... Milkshake in a can is how I've heard it described :) It's not really formula (which is designed as a complete food to approximate breastmilk), it's somewhat fortified powdered milk with heaps of sugar added in. There is nothing in there that children can't get from eating food. Personally, if your toddler is not eating well at the 12-month mark and you're concerned about what they're getting, I'd say continue with infant formula rather than the toddler stuff.

Well done Summah! Crumpet, carrot and broccoli sticks are great to start with, just steam them till they're soft enough for her to gum.

Cathie, that's awesome that your hubby does that. My DH was in the reserves years ago and does the ironing and used to do any sewing that needed doing, but I've since picked up that job.

As per your requests, here is my quilt! I got the fabric and pattern in April 2005 when I was starting out with patchwork, and the sheer size of it (queen bed quilt) was daunting. So it has been sitting there in my pile of projects since then and I signed up for the challenge late March :)

So... I got the job! It took me emailing the deputy around 11 this morning, I can't believe he didn't call or email before then! Anyway, I am now head teacher of ESL, part time til the end of the year with the possibility of going into next year (not too fussed if it doesn't continue as I plan on growing another human next year!). I'm a bit nervous, but generally excited.

Ack, don't start me on formula companies. When I had to start ff full time I was trying to find out more info on the different brands on the net, and each brand's website came up with a "breastfeeding is best... seek medical advice first... click here to absolve us of responsibility..." page. I ended up in tears so many times, I know they need to encourage bf but it was pretty upsetting at the time, especially when they then go on to try and gouge as much cash as possible out of you, and as EJ says, play on the desire of parents to give their babies the best of everything they "need". The AR formula is the same from birth to 12 months so no changes here.

We leave on Saturday night! I'm a bit worried about the e-coli outbreak. How do you avoid salad in summer!!??

Oh MadB, school already :( exciting but a reminder of how quickly time is going! Good to know we can give Millie toast. She always looks so interested in DH's toast, but he slathers it with peanut butter sooo... and we use multigrain bread. Guess we should switch to white?

Charlotte, Millie was actually really good with her 6 month shots. She screamed when they were given (of course) but had no reaction and was absolutely fine.

Kaz, I had to smile: "dream a little dream" is probably Millie's favourite lullaby :) That, or "moonshadow".

I had better go, trying to get piles of laundry done and dried before Saturday!

Bah. I think the marketing tactics of most formula and baby food companies are pretty despicable to be honest. Parents want to do the best for their kids and they get fed a whole pile of rubbish and hype. :shakehead: But let's face it, it's not really any different to the tactics they use to sell adult food or pretty much anything else for that matter.

She could have multigrain. It'll probably just come through her poo though. I *think* the advice now is not to avoid possible allergens like peanuts. Depends what you're comfortable with of course. And some peanut butters have dodgy additives in them too.

No honey, no. I wouldnt' put anything on it for now. Plain foods are better - you don't want to overload them with salty or sugary things. They don't need the extra flavour in any case.

I started Pip off with just the crusts of the toast, he'd gum on them for ages and really enjoy it. Actually, even now Pip doesn't like salty things and isn't a huge fan of sugary stuff.

With formula, they aren't allowed to actually market formula for babies, it's part of some code somewhere. So they create 6-mth formula which *doesn't* have the marketing restriction on it and market that (what's that ad? "Breastmilk is wonderful for your baby, but after ... ") so you get the name association if you're actually looking for infant formula. And the toddler milk is able to be shown during kids' programming on teev so again, more marketing and product association. All this is because they can't advertise infant formula. Another interesting thing is that in the latest ABA mag it has that they did some studies and found that BF bubs would drink (on average) as much per feed as older bubs, just that the milk does change to their requirements as they grow. With formula, it's about giving the baby more formula to get the same benefit as they grow. But these are just my thoughts - please remember that I do FF Will, I did FF Pip, and am also a fairly cynical person at times :D Either that, or I've watched too much "Gruen Transfer"

PP - I don't know what I'm more jealous of. Your quilt, or your lawn! I *wish* we had lawn!!!! they are growing so fast!!! YAY on the job!! Hope you enjoy it!!!!!

I've made an osteo apt for her this afternoon. Hoping for a 'magic' man/woman to help her sleep. Worth a shot I guess. I swear she didn't go longer than 30 minutes without waking last night. No teeth there that I can tell and thougght the cold was almost over... probably something else on the horizon :wall:

DS loves salt! He'll eat it straight in a restaurant when he grabs it off the table. Don't know where he gets that from. And chocolate is now his favourite food (apparently) and tv is his favourite thing to do. mummy fail :lol:

I concur with Kaz's formula opinions. I also watch a lot of Gruen. I wouldn't kick Todd Sampson out of my bed on a cold night!

6 months old today! Woweee! DD has celebrated by having a big midday sleep (hour and five, but that's her longest ever stretch unassisted) and making the transition to solid poos. Hard work for her, but great for me, so much easier to get the poo off the nappies!

She's on solids, started BLS a couple of weeks back, and now eating all kinds of stuff. Still gluten-free though, there is a history of coeliac in DH's family, so we're trying to stay off it as long as we can. But that's just us - I wouldn't say any other babies should be off bread from 6 months. Tonight I'm going to make some breastmilk & polenta sticks, and we'll see how those go.

PP - your quilt is stunning! I'm useless at quilting - other sewing is fine, and I love dressmaking, but quilting and I just don't mesh.

Crumpet - Yay for sitting up!! Clever girl Summah!! :) Good luck with the finger foods, sounds like fun...I worry about trying them cause I live an hour away from the hospital and there is only one ambulance in town so if it's on a call out we have to wait for one to come from the next small town which is about 20 mins away (and if that ones out it's an hour away....).

We're doing good here, left home at 4am this morning and arrived at my parents place at 11am, went to lunch for my SIL's birthday at 11.30 then shopping at Target...Jacob was really well behaved, got back to mum and dads, put him in his cot to sleep and he's still there an hour and a half later...what a champion!! We're so lucky he travels so well, he makes us look like pro's. Other than that everything is all good, nothing major to report.

If it makes you feel any better Jules, there's less risk of choking when they feed themselves compared to spoon feeding (I'm guessing that's what you're concerned about?)

Miri seemed to enjoy the osteo :D she's asleep in the car - I daren't move her! Osteo reckoned their sleep is often better right after a treatment. I remarked that it couldn't get much worse. I sure hope those aren't famous last words.
