JMG - my little man's not the best sleeper either so i haven't got a lot of suggestions but a lot of people have luck with Infant's Friend as well. you can give brown sugar (1/2 teaspoon) mixed with 30ml of cooled boiled water, prior to or after feeds, 3 or 4 times per day, for a few days until a soft poo is passed. another thing you can do is a clockwise tummy massage. start at baby's lower right side of tummy (your left) and gently massage using circular motions, working your way up to just below the ribs, across the top of the tummy then back down the baby's left side of tummy (this follows the natural direction of the lower bowel). also you can help baby to bring his knees up to the tummy in a slow pumping action which may help facilitate a bowel motion. hope your little man gets some relief and sleep soon hon - take care xx

JMG- i have been using thr brauers and infacol wind drops, i think the wind drops work better than the brauers imo
littlelalla- mastitis, you poor thinh I don't think i have felt as ill as i did with mastitis. Do you have an oversupply with milk? I think that was my problem, i got it at 6 weeks too and even now if aimee goes over 5hrs between feeds i get rock hard lumpy boobs and have to massage and express a bit. I get nervous if they get lumpy. Hope you feel better soon i found hot and cold compresses and panadol helped

finally have a spare second to get on here and post, usually i get as far as reading.
having said that miss elise is very unsettled this evening, has some wind i think, taken me walking around the house patting her bum to fall asleep.
i have alot i want to type but not sure if she will let me
still havent made it to the mchn hopefully next week, she is porking up nicely though so i am not worried, more curious, god knows she feeds enough, it;s been mid 30's her all weeks and so she has been feeding about every 2 hours, even overnight, real killer for me.
Cooler today so she is getting back to normal, hopefully I can get more than an hour or two at a time tonight.
was so hot yesterday she went red like a beetroot all over, so we decided to go for a drive with the aircon in the car so she could have some relief.
DH decided that it would be a good idea to leave the upstairs windows open and the security doors locked but doors open. Well I said we should probably close them so we don't get robbed or if it stormed the house wont get wet, she'll be right he says.
Well it stormed all right, worst one we've had so far, hail, wind everything, I crapped myself driving home in it, couple of tree branches only just missed the car. We made it home safely to find that two rooms upstairs copped it and the carpets and curtains were soaking wet, and one room downstairs as well as the front entrance. They were soaked not just a little damp. Luckily we have a wet vacuum, DH vacuumed all the excess water out of the carpets and he had to wipe the walls down, covered in dirt from the fly screens. They are pretty much dry now but I had fun telling him" I told you so"
Elise was much happier for her time in the aircon too, poor little thing doesn't like the heat at all.
JMG - i hear ya on the no sleep, this past week I have been lucky to get about 4 hours a night if I am lucky, it really makes you emotional. My DD was born on the same day, I'm not sure what to suggest to help you though I've never forumla fed, hopefully LittleL's advice will help, I hope he sleeps for you soon.
Jenna - Congrats on your little man, try not to beat yourself up about the c/s, your both healthy and that really is the main thing, how they get here is all relative in the end.
Sararose - I know what you mean about one stopping and the other one starting, I am not sure whats worse elise trying to bring up her wind and crying or Abby whinging about anything and everything, enough to drive a person bonkers.
Shannon - LOL on the double trouble already, very cute though. Sounds like they are doing really well though, 7 weeks already, goes so quickly.
Who asked about having another one? I can't remember now.
DH mentioned to me the other day that he wants 4 now. I almost had a heart attack, I've always said I'm a three bag limit but he seems to think an even number is the way to go all of a sudden. I said well maybe we should stick with two. I would be happy with two, really will take me a while to feel like I could go through pregnancy and birth all over again, I really don't enjoy being pregnant, really takes it out of me.
He wants to have another one sooner rather than later too, I said well unless your going to pop out one yourself that won't happen. I need at least 2-3 yrs to forget about what being pg is like and how you don't get any sleep when they are newborns.
As for DTD who has the energy, plus I am not sure what the go is with my stitches yet, it's hard enough to psyche myself up to poo let alone DTD lol (charming thought huh heh)

Jenna- sounds like we had identical births! Mias head got stuck also, so had an emergency c sec..but I wasnt offered an xray I was just told Id need a c sec next time. Im pretty dissapointed, maybe I should push for further investigation??
Your little man is devine, I got teary looking at the pic just after the csec, brought back so many memories.
I also cant breast feed because of the nipples! We are very similar. I was expressing, and still am once a day, but to be honest it really is too much doing that, along with preparing all the bottles. (for me anyway)
JMG - You poor thing, I find infants friend works wonders. Mia was up last night with bad wind, but it really helped her poo and get rid of the wind.
ll80- that was me asking about the next one haha. DH said maybe in 10 years! And we only have the one....I dont think he realised how difficult it is. I think in 4 years though, Id like a big gap.

littlelalla- he said am I overdue for a pap and I said yes. I have had abnormal pap results in the past so I knew id better get one asap. I dont want to leave it too long unless it is abnormal pre cancerous cells again! Sorry about the mastitis, thats awful, hopeit clears soon!
Sara- Im hearing you. There is time to BD again, but only when she is asleep, and by then, Im craving sleep myself! So nothing going on here...yet. lol.
Well, Im off to settle Mia, today she self settled really well but tonight she is needing to be rocked. Im trying not to beat myself up about it and just go with the flow.

jenna,congrats on your lil man, he is just devine!
just a quickie - baby has benn very unsettled lately, not sure if its wind or silent reflux. when she feeds she pften makes the lil click noise so i have to ring the aba about that today - have also eliminted dairy, citrus, chocolate :(, carbonated drinks and tomatoes from my diet which has seemed to help a bit.
she is still a dream overnight though, but these lil cries, she is in pain and i just dont know what it is!

kitt3n - let me know what the aba say. ochre makes the click noise too and the cahs nurse who did his 2 week check said i might hear him make that noise as the roof of his mouth is high and his tongue is trying to get all of the nipple into his mouth when feeding. she said it wasn't anything to worry about though.
skye - thanks hon :) yeah i know what you mean. i'd be the same too. someone told me the other day they will soon be able to just draw blood to check for all that instead of using the normal pap smear method. but i think it's not completely accurate yet. aren't babies random!?! ochre can self settle during the day but then needs more attention to fall asleep at night. i think you are doing an amazing job hon :D
ll80- omg that storm sounded crazy! we hardly ever get weather like that down here. i think i'd definitely crap myself if we did!
sara - thanks hon yeah mastitis sucks! it could be an oversupply issue but i'm not sure as he's been feeding every 2 to 3 hours and i haven't had a long break cos he doesn't do big sleeps. my breasts are just prone to mastitis. i got it a lot with my other 2. my doc said it's usually caused by a crack or a graze on the nipple and then bacteria gets in. it's also the side i prefer to carry him on, wind him on etc so maybe the extra pressure caused it. mastitis is such a mystery to me. i seem to do all the right things but just end up getting it anyway! i can't mess around with it tho as i got it so bad once i had to have my breast operated on because an absess had formed. don't ever want to go thru that again!

aww Kitten I hope your little girl is ok.
Had a crap night last night, actually, the last 3 nights have been crapola. She wakes at 3.30am and WILL NOT go back to sleep! We put her in our bed and she still wont. Falls asleep at 6, then is up again at 7 for a bottle! DH wont get up to her in the morning coz hes in a dead sleep. Arrrghhh all I can say is thank GOD i dont have any more kids to look after!! I admire all you ladies with more than one, how do you manage it? lol

Hi all. Had a good nights sleep last night, about 8 hours in total. Went to bed at 12:30 after feeding Jaycen, he woke up at 2:30 for a feed and then slept right through until 7:30 when DF woke up to give him a bottle. The only reason I woke up was because I was overdue to express. Hard and sore boobs are not fun :(
The only thing I can really complain about is my cracked and blistered nipple, but Lansinoh cream seems to be fixing that up quite nicely.
JMG - We use Heinz Nurture as a top up when Jaycen need an extra feed, and on the days when he has some really painful gas and wind it works well to get it all out. The key with it is to add an extra 10-20mls of water to it as the formula can sometimes be a bit too thick and cause constipation.
Skyeblue - I had the paediatrician come in a tell me that I would need to get an x-ray and find a specialist if I planned on having another baby as I would have to have another c/s if my pelvis was the shape he thought it was. I'd ask to get it checked out just in case they're wrong.
Anyway, must go because Jaycen is demanding another feed... he only had one an hour ago lol

Jenna- thats some great sleep you are having there. Mia used to do that but now she is waking herself up when its feeding time and not going back to sleep! Think I may leave her to grizzle and cry tonight.

I did leave her grizzle and cry, only it turned into a scream! Was up from 3-5am. GRRR! Has been a new habit for her, Im hoping tonight is different...but I dont know.

Skye - her unsettled-ness could be just the wonder week? have you heard of them? they have their first one at 6 weeks. i know ochre has been pretty unsettled this week but we have just discovered he has chicken pox!! i noticed a few spots on his head the other day and one on his leg but i thought it was a mozzie bite. today they have got little blisters on them. he's only got about 5 so far so i'm hoping he only has a mild dose of it like his brother had a few weeks ago.

Littlelalla- whats a wonder week? Poor little man, how horrible for him. But I guess its good hes getting them now, not later.
Last night was MUCH better! I gave her a bath, in bed at 7pm, woke for a feed at 11pm, then 2.40am, took 1 hour to get back to sleep at 3.40am, up again at 6.15am. I thought it was pretty good, well better than past nights. I got my first REAL smile this morning! It was so gorgeous!
Im looking forward to having a sleep when I put her down for her morning snooze though! lol.

hello ladies,
well, we finally found out what was up with matisse - she has thrush on her tongue! we thought it was just a milky stained tongue but we were wrong!
apparently it is very painful, hence why she cries on the boob and wasnt sucking hard enough. so now we have drops for her tongue, will take about a week to clear, but already she is much better, smiles to boot!
little l- oh no @ the chicken pox, hopefully it doesnt hit himtoo hard. at least he will have an early immunity
ll80 & skye - you know, for me, night time or early morning is nice, its my time alone with the baby (dd1 is constantly in her face).... just trying to put a positive spin on the 4am wake up calls i guess
jenna - i hope your xray goes ok, i would be devastated if i couldnt have ore! matisse and our beautiful birth just make me want to keep going and going
ps - brauers stomach calm is awesome. has anyone tried the nappy rash cream? i love my miessence one, but think ill try the brauers next....

How are you all? Not too sleep deprived I hope!
Well Belle has settled down somewhat - she's feeding well and only has the occassional screaming fits now. Athough last night was a shocker - she screamed from 7pm until 10pm, but amazngly slept until 2am which is huge for her. She then only woke at 5am which again is much longer than the usual 1 -1.5 hourly feeds. She seems to have a cranky bout around 6-7pm each night. We've started giving her a bath around that time which usually helps. Anyone else experience this?
I actually don't think she has reflux or colic anymore - I think it was just an unsettled period of her adjusting to her new surroundings. Apparently that can happen around 3 weeks. I've got her booked into my osteo tomorrow just to make sure there's nothing else wrong with her - but I think I could do with the session more than she could!
Littlelalla - oh your poor little man - how horrible having the chickenpox already! Hope it's only a mild case for your and his sake.
Skyeblue - don't the smiles just melt your heart?! Belle has been smiling since 10 days old - at first I thought it must have just been wind but all the nurses say they are actual smiles! One little smile can make me forget all the screaming lol.
Kitt3n - you must be glad to have worked out what's wrong with Matisse - and atleast it's treatable too. Poor little miss, glad to hear she's feeling better already.

Just quickly, little miss is about to wake up.
I got my butt into gear this morning and woke up to get Dh to work so I could have the car, so I'll go and get Elise weighed today, I'm curious to see how much she has put on, her cheeks are so chubby now and she has a third chin :)
Kitten - oh poor Matisse with the thrush, DD1 had it quite bad and I ended getting it on my nipples, might be worth rubbing some of the stuff you are putting in her mouth on your nipples as well to make sure you don't get it, otherwise it can become a vicious cycle, as it did with me and DD1.
I haven't tried to Braurs nappy cream, I've been rubbing paw paw ointment (the black one) into Elise's butt at every nappy change and that works wonders. I forgot a spare cover when I was out on Saturday and ended up having to use a sampler huggies I had in the nappy bag cause she had a poo plosion and it went everywhere, but was all nice and contained to the prefold and cover. the poor thing came up in a huge welt across her pubic area from the nappy, but the paw paw fixed it up quickly.
Your right about the alone time, my DD1 is in Elise's face all the time too, I don't mind it too much truth be told, I'm functioning well on 4-5 hours a night really, and once DD starts school I'll be able to have a day nap, that will be AWESOME!!
Skye - glad you got a better night, mine wasn't too bad at all either, last feed at midnight, then she was up at 230 for an hour then up again at 6am. That's about the best I can hope for right now.
Claire oh those screaming fits are awful, luckily Elise doesn't scream forhours like DD1 did. After 4pm -7pm is geneally what I like to call the "witching hour" seems to go longer than an hour though, just a horrible time of day, sounds great though if the bath will calm her down.

Skye - the 'wonder weeks' are developmental periods in babies - also called Infantile regressive periods. studies have shown that babies all around the world can experience this at the following weeks - 5,8,12,17,26,36,44,53,61,62,72,73. and interestingly, babies born 2 weeks early for eg. will have their wonder week 2 weeks later eg. at 7 weeks etc. it's to do with increased brain activity associated with big changes in development. Some babies will show signs of crying more, going off food/milk. some babies who have been sleeping well may be harder to get to sleep, or may wake more frequently, some need more cuddles, and older babies may become more clingy. yaay on the first smile!! beautiful aren't they!! ;)
kitt3n - oh poor matisse! hopefully she will be all better soon! i've never had it but from friends who have i hear it is very painful. i have the brauers nappy cream. he hasn't had much nappy rash as when i changed over from huggies wipes to curash his bottom has been awesome so i can't tell how good the cream is. actually have only used it twice. it is very runny though which i found a little different - most bum creams are quite thick. i have the stomach calm also - did you know it was for infants 6 months and over? i use it on my 2 year old sometimes and it works wonders for him.
claire - the bath at night will work wonders for belle. maybe a massage too will help to settle her? ochre also gets unsettled around tea time - lovely timing! i think for him it's a build up of wind through out the day because he draws his legs up a lot. the brauers colic relief helps him out though.
ll80 - what paw paw ointment do use? i have seen the red tubes but not black. lol at the third chin!!!! :lol:
Well, im a little sleep deprived here but i think that's because ochre has the pox - he wants boobie every 2 hours - so very broken sleep lately. so far this morning i can see no more new spots so i think he has gotten away with a very mild dose - probably 6 spots all up. his snotty nose is bothering him more than them i think.
Does anyone put their babies to sleep on their bellies? my other ds were never belly sleepers but ochre just loves being on his belly on anyones chest so one night out of sheer desperation and no sleep i put him in bed with me on his belly and he went to sleep straight away. so i've been doing this ever since. they say not to but my mum said i always slept on my belly. he moves himself from side to side in the night to change his head position and he is so incredibly strong. he actually lifts himself off the bed with his arms (like he's doing pushups!) and holds his head up to look around. :rolleyes:

We are almost at 8 weeks and Aimee slept through last night yay (probably a once off lol) She went from a feed at 10, bed at 11 then woke at 5:45 for a feed. TOny and I are going to have lunch and go to the movies today. First time we have left Aimee at home with my mum will be interesting to see
Kitt3n- we are still battling with thrush it is terrible ll80 is right you have to treat your nipples as well otherwise it just goes back and forth between you. Hope she gets better soon
