A child health nurse said the gas in the soft drinks can give them wind but I still haven't figured that one out and it made no difference to Olivia if i drank it or not..

Hi all! I've finally found a moment to pop in!! Trish I don't know how you have time to do anything with a bub a 2 yr old and three other kids - you are a wonder woman.
Well things are going ok here, although Gabe has bad tummy pains (colic I think) and wants to be held all the time and Kyla is just proving that the terrible 2s aren't a myth!!
I've been giving Gabe Donnalix for the colic - I think it ma help but can't be sure. He cried most of the morning today and nearly sent me mad!!! I finally got mum to come over and he was as good as gold and slept the whole time she was here (typical!).
Well re: the coke thing, I've been drinking caffine free diet coke.....hmm I wonder if that could be causing any problems - but it's the one thing I really love...
I have to take Gabe to the Dr too as he has a granuloma (?) in his belly button (apparently like a cyst)- don't exactly know what it is but the MCHN said I will probably have to get some silver nitrate to put on to dry it up.
Anyway, I'll try to get in as much as I can!!
hi Carrie :)
Not having a good night here,, Olivia is not happy unless on her tummy.. ALL day and ALL night.. I dont know whats up :( she is passing alot of wind and I wonder if it is the salad causing it? I know around Xmas time I was eating alot of salad and she was like this so I stopped eating it and I had some yesterday and today and she is back to being windy. I gave her some IF and she has settled but on her tummy pn the floor not in bed,,,
Hi Nic!
Sorry you're having a bad night :( a friend of mine sees a chinese hearbalist who says that you should avoid lettuce and tomato (among heaps of other things re: colic), so perhaps the salad is making her windy. I'm not sure what Gabe gets it from...
The only thing I can think of for you is to go to bed and sleep her on your front on her tummy, if that makes sense?
yeh I figured it was the salad.. It just sucks cus thats what I am enjoying eating at the moment..
She sleeps on her tummy at the moment in her bed and has so for about a week now b ut she was happy during the day to lay on her back or even sit propped up but at the moment she just wants to be on her tummy all the time..
Quiet night...
Olivia slept quite well even though poor thing was a gassy gassison :) and yay this morning she is happy to sit in her swing and look around. I dont have to hold her and pat her bum and tummy..
Last night at 3am I was just giving her cuddles as she went back to sleep and she gave me the most beautiful smile. I melted I tells ya
Morning ladies :)
Oh my lord yesterday was the worst day ever. Ripley just wouldnt stop feeding and when he gave me a break he'd fuss unless I was holding him. My 15mth old also decided yesterday was the day to start preparing me for the Terrible Two's, I seriously could have gladly given him away. I eventually had to just put him in his room for timeouts every 1/2hr because I thought I was going to shake him senseless (obviously I never EVER would). He's never been so naughty before, I almost cried a few times. I know its probably a reaction to having a sibling and my time having to be divided between them, but I feel like its all my fault, I really need to try and spend even more time with him :( I am thinking I should have given it a few more months before we had another baby but its too late now. I know in a year's time they'll be the best of friends and all this will be a distant memory.
God, Mummy Guilt sucks!
On the bright side the baby bonus came through so now we are debt free, we actually have money in our savings account AND I can go buy some breastfeeding friendly tops, oh and a Dyson vacuum  Our vac is old, doesnt suck properly and uses bags so it drives me insane and vacuuming involves alot of cussing and kicking on my part  I also need to book somewhere for family pics and get Jett his new carseat (a Maxi Rider).
Might attempt all this today while they both seem in good spirits, so Id better go shower.
BBL.
Nic - I'm glad your night turned out good in the end. There is nothing worse than starting the night off bad because I know all I can think about is the long night a head. Don't say that about salad, basically I'm going to have nothing left to eat.
Carrie - What's Donnalix? I've been using Brauer's Colic Relief, it seems ok...but I like to know my options.
Re the Colic, the Dr told me yesterday to stop eating wheat for a week (damn just started again) and to limit my dairy. Then I'm to introduce a little into my diet to see how it goes. He also told me to put a warm heat pack across Kai's belly when he's particularly unsettled (not really sure about this because I'm worried about him over heating), but I've done it this morning and it has helped, normally he's really unsettled in the mornings and wont let me put him down, well his been having 45 min cat naps all morning so I've been able to do some cleaning, washing and have a shower.
Well we had a good night last night. Started off a bit rocky because we were at the IL's and Kai was asleep and we had to wake him to bring him home (he screamed the whole drive home too). He took about an hour to settle again. Thankfully DP got that job so I could sleep. But he only woke at 1 and 4. So I was really happy with that. His feeds are taking a bit longer because I'm burping him more, but I don't mind if he sleeps longer.
He did the nastiest poo this morning. My first nasty poo in MCN. I could hear him doing it at 4.30 and I asked DP if i should change him then and he said no, so unfortunately Kai woke again at 6.30 wanting his nappy changed...it was horrible.
If you know their doing a poo, do you change them then or wait for them to be uncomfy? Normally I'd have changed him...
Anna: mummy guilt is the worst, I don't think the age gap makes a difference. My son Jacob was terrible up until this past fortnight and has now settled down.. My other son Isaac (4) is horrendous **sigh** beats me what has got into him but I hear ya on the shaking ;) ( wouldn't do it either but some days) Hpe you get all your jobs done today. I am yet to even get out of my Pj's. Olivia now unsettled but is finaly asleep over the arm of the couch so I can't go anywhere  and I don't dare move her
Bron: Don't you hate when they wake when you are about to go in the car? I hate crying in the car it is just so painful.. and on the nappy changing. If Olivia is awake I change her when I hear her pooping well I wait a few minutes to mnake sure she is doneand she lets me know when she is done.. otherwise I leave her.. but she doesn't poo in her sleep only pops off constantly
Salad might not effect Kai. It never effected my other kids but each time I eat it the next day she is one unhappy bub but then she goes 3 days between proper poops so I wonder if thats the problem even though BF babies can go up to 10 days.. ah its all so hard some days isn't it...
Nic - yeh was my bday yesterday :) it was pretty quiet as everyone was either on holidays or back at work. but mum took me out so that was nice,
And at last Ash got to meet his daddy!! it was sooooo good i almost cried! he was so all over him and asked for cuddles and it was just perfect! i was soooo afraid it would go bad and he wouldnt want to be there! so that was the best birthday presant i could ask for!! :D
Well today is first day on my own, mums back to work so hoping all goes well, ive managed to get him down this morning for a sleep after a horrid night with wind as i forgot to give the drops to him :( so thats good i can do some bits this morning.
Does anyone have a shower whilst there bubs is sleeping??? im so worried if i do and he wakes up ill jump out the shower wet and be stuck naked for the rest of the day trying to get him back to sleep LOL i hate putting him down to cry whilst i do things, hes a real screamer and makes his face red as a tomato!! i hate it, he has even started to have tears now :( other wise ill have to wait for tonight wen mum gets home....:(
morning ladies!
typing one handed so bare with me!.... we've been bringing up a bit of milk this feed!...poor thing.. and poor mum.... have to wash the sheets and an outfit....and me!
buzzie - well one glass didn't seem to increase her wind at all!... HAPPY BIRTHDAY for yesterday!!!
i have a shower while Chrissie is sleeping.... about to go have one right now!!
nic - well the other day i had quite a few lemon lime and bitters and that didn't make any difference either!... i eat salad too!... haven't noticed any difference, maybe it depends on how sensitive bubs is?
Yeah, doesn't your heart melt when they smile like that!?!?! it's awesome!
Carrie - it's good to hear from you!! :D sorry to hear Gabe has colic! poor little man! Hope it gets better soon and miss Kyla gets better too!!
Anna - i don't think it makes a difference how old they are when they get jealous of the other... he will get used to it and it will get better.. i saw it with my brothers kids...they getting better now!
Bron - if Chrissie is awake i change her.. if i've noticed a smell and she's asleep i leave her... she doesn't seem to mind... she has yet to have cracked it about a wet or soiled nappy! That may change though!! :cryinglaugh:

Happy Birthday for yesterday Lauren :)
as for showers I shower when she is awake and settled or when she is asleep. I have the advantage of having a 8 yr old who can settle her for me if she wakes but sometimes he is to engrossed in something and doesn't hear he  but somtimes I have to leave her to cry even just for a few minutes as I have 3 other kids to deal with and she is aright little screamer too and boy does she get going..I swear her eyes go almost black sometimes..
haroula: typing one handed becomes easier with time doesn't it :) and I am getting the most delicious smiles right now aww.. so sweet...
Sorry bout the milk spews, Olivia has days like that too..
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN!!! And I am so glad Asher's meeting with his dad went well, but how could it not when Ash has such a cute little face to melt everyone with!
Good night her thank goodness. Olivia went to sleep around 11:30 and woke at 5:30. The 5.5 - 6 hour nights are getting to be more the norm so that is fab! After a feed at 5:30 she went back to sleep til 9am but then woke up absolutely screaming as her nappy had come undone and wee was everywhere! I immediately put her in the bath and my mum changed the bassinette. Then as I took her out of the bath she wee'ed all over me!
ah the good ole wee on mum trick :)
Anyone have any tips for me.. Olivia just won't stop screaming :( It is mean but I just have her in her swing right now.. I had to make the boys lunch so I had to put her down.. She wasn't settling for me anyway :( god I hate days like this and I don't know what to do.. I have given her IF and I know she has a gassy tummy cus when I hold my hand against her tummy I can feel it rumbling...
oh shh.. I think maybe she is going to stop.. silence.. I don't dare move lol. she is just staring with a totally foul look on her face.. I feel mean
alicia - LOL i've had a few of those wee epoisodes too!! hehehe all over me, OR the change mat!! have had to wash the cover about two/three times a week so far.... gonna have to get smarter!!
nic - yeah, i let her cry a little too if i have my hands full, not much you can do! especially if you have other kids to tend to also!! You sound like you are doing an awesome job being so busy AND finding time to log on!!!
I think Chrissie is going through a growth spurt cause she's been feeding more often the last couple of days!! I hope i can produce enough milk for her!
I finally have her asleep.. as for logging on all she wanted was me too hold her all morning so I did lol.. I didn't let her cry for to long cus I just felt to mean but all os good now and she is sleeping soundly.. The boys are watching a movie and I just enjoying the quiet for a few minutes. I have managed to vaccuum and sweep today and remop my kitchen a gazillion time.. Jacob kindly tipped half a bottle of cordial onit yesterday and I am still trying to get it clean :)
I feel better now Olivia isn't crying.. housework is mainly done. Kids entertained.. lunch has been done.. oh just realized I haven't eaten today.. woops.. I better go do that.. no wonder I have been a feeling a little flat...
oh and I don't have to do any washing cus it is raining again :) tomorrow it will need doing tho so today is my day off (sort of)
Wow, it is so good to know that other people are going through the same thing.
Anna - I felt like the worst mummy yesterday as I constantly had my finger to my lips telling my DS to be quite. It is like he makes so much more noise now that the baby is home (although I am sure it is just me being way more sensitive). A couple of times I was so mean to him & afterwwards I felt so bad. Bronte is windy/ refluxy so when you are trying to settle them after a crying fit it can push you over the edge.
She also did a HUGE spew on me first thing yesterday morning so I had to strip us both off in the middle of the loungeroom & head straight for the shower - some way to start the day!!
Buzzie -so glad Asher's meeting with his Dad went well. Also, have a shower while bubs is sleeping - chances are they won't wake but if you are quick & they do wake it won't matter anyway (plus the environment will love you!). There are times where you just have to let them have a bit of a cry so they get used to resettling themsleves rather than expecting to be picked up every time they make a noise. Controlled crying has it place I reckon but I would never let them cry themselves silly.....
Aussienic - as I do more reading I will pass on any tips that are new that might settle a screaming baby. Sounds like a few of us could do with some. Has anyone else tried anything other than Infants Friend?
Haroula - girlfriend you should have gotten a plastic change table so you can just wipe it clean. That said I know what a domestic goddess you are & know how much you like your washing & ironing ;) Glad Chrissie is being a little champ for you!
Hi to everyone else - off to express some milk before the babe wakes.
Hi ladies,
So glad to log on and see i'm not the only one with an unsettled/colicy bub... :(
I just don't know how i get through some afternoons. Tash is moslty good in the days and nights but the evenings are sheer hell....Today she gas been unsettled with wind and is finally asleep in my arms as i type. Question for you... how often are you giving your bub's the IF (for those using it)?
