Babies Born December 2007 #4

Well I am very norty and didnt get to have a sleep today, but I did get out of the house and have some me time. I treated myself to lunch and a milkshake at a cafe and read a magazine and Liam slept the whole time.....it was BLISS. ANd Tori had a good time with my mum, and she didnt get upset like I was worried about because we have been going through some seperation anxiety, however she only asked for me a couple of times and Mum just told her she would see me later.

I picked up the baby hammock this arvo and Liam is having his first sleep in it, he looks so snug and went to sleep really easily, so we will see how it goes.

Haroula- I had a day like that with Liam yesterday, but it lasted from 8:30- 3:30, I would get him to sleep and put him down and he would wake p all over again, Hence the reason for trying the Hammock as I just cant spend all day rocking him when I have Tori to think about as well. I also agree with you with the BF I dont love it, but it is easy, good for babies and inexpensive which is why I will perserver until I go back to work.

xtml: I thought it was 6 weeks for a natural delivery and 8 for a c/s till you could do tummy exercises...

Ali: I am glad ou had a relaxing time out.. Its so nice to have some down time isn't it.. hope the hammock gives you more sleep at night..

I rang child health and was told Olivia is having an "expected" reaction to thr rotavirus vaccine.. her tummy may be upset for several days or she could wake up and be perfectly fine.. So far she has been asleep since 3:30 and sleeping deeply .. It is 5:30 here now.. Jacob is also asleep :) He fell asleep on the other couch at 3 :lol: and we are still trying to wake him... loooong night ahead for us..

We are off to a place called Agnes Waters for the day tomorrow :) looking forward to a day away

Bugger I have missed heaps in 2 days, I can't keep up what with the group double the size now!

We had a nice day here. I actually went out without a 'minder'!!! DH dropped me and Olivia at Lygon street where I had lunch with some friends, then he picked me up to go home. Sounds pathetic that I needed dropping off and picking up but I don't care it was just so nice to feel normal again for a couple of hours and show off Olivia! She was so good while we were out. The restaurant was really loud and bustling but she just slept through most of it.

I saw my surgeon yesterday and discussed how the pain in my wound has been getting worse lately. He says it is a good sign, it is all the nerves growing back. Who knew growing nerves was so fricking painful! But now I have some of the 'good stuff' to take if in too much pain. The funny thing is I took one just before our last MCHN and the nurse was talking to me and all I could think the whole time was 'must concentrate, must concentrate' as the medication totally takes the edge off the world.

DH is being a bit of a ****er tonight. The internet is playing up and so is the desktop computer (I'm on the laptop) so it is like it is the end of the world for him.

Nic - I hope Olivia is ok. It must be a shock to their little systems getting all those needles.

Sorry for my selfishness today. Will try harder to keep up tomorrow.

Nic I don't like the sound of the side effects of the roatavirus vac - I didn't give it to Flynn (didn't know it was available) and by the sounds of that I might not give it to Ollie - ouch!!

Alicia are u on petahdine? I LOVE that stuff! I am always super keen to have a general anaesthetic for ops cause I love the feeling afterwards. Hope your DH lets u use the PC more :(

Rory - It's Endone, a morphine type drug. Makes the whole world a nice, warm and fuzzy place :-)

Just worked out how to make an album in my gallery (I'm a little slow I know). So I have started putting in some pics of Olivia. I just added the one of her reading a book and the pic of her 'serious face', which is the look she has on most of the time!

Alicia: I bet it was nice to get out and feel normal :) Olivia is doing ok.. Seems much more settled tonight thankfully..

Rory: I don't know how new the vacc is but it is pretty new.. I wasn't sure if I was going to get it or not but I looked up a few things on the net yesterday and asked the Dr today and she said they had had no complaints and rotavirus itself was worse to get compared to the possible discomfort from the vacc. Ethan had RV when he was 10 months and it was just mild but it can be serious requiring hospitalization or sadly even death.. so I figure a few days of discomfort is better then me feeling guilty if anything was to happen kwim??

Nic I know what you mean about pain of vac vs. pain of illness :( We had Flynnie fully vaccinated without thinking twice but he never had any adverse reactions, so I have never had to deal with probs from vacs before IYKWIM? But I guess Ollie could react to any of them and I shouldn't just assume they will both be the same. I think I will do a bit of research and probably will have it done :(

I have always just had the kids vacced then they brought in all these news ones.. meningitis, chicken pox and now rotavirus. We just follow th immunization schedule and had a talk about the CP one when it came to Jacob getting it and decided that seeing as we had a child in school he had more exposure to it so went ahead and thats the reason we decided to go ahead with the RV one..

She had a good night slept 8:20 till 1 but then I made the mistake of just taking her to bed with me so I didn't sleep well.. Olivia is still sleeping soundly yet the rest of us are up because we are meeting people at 8.. This little girl (me) is going back to sleep as soon as we drive outt he drive :lol:

alicia- my friend had a c/s in Jakarta and the wound is still numb 3 months later! they pulled her skin out so far they gave her new stretch marks! so if you're feeling pain, it sounds better for healing than still numb. next step in the healing i reckon will be itchy (if tattoos and brandings are anything to go by). wow those meds sound hardcore... would u prefer to stay sharp... maybe half doses would work?

haha rory on loving the peth, thats funny youre keen to have operations! i like blood tests.

reading about lunch in lygon st made me want to do something adult and normal too. i have this fantasy that when i come to melb for a wk in march i'll be able to get out to brunswick st and do lunch w my gfs. or meet some of the bb gals and do a babymovie. but with a 2y.o and 4 wk old, it might be impossible.

mylo has got olly's cold, por bub is snotty and sniffling. and olly is fevery and unhappy.

I was in two minds about the chicken pox one, figuring it's something that everyone gets, and if you're gonna get it, better to have it as a kid. But I ended up getting DS vax'd for it, and I'm glad coz my neice & nephew recently had chickenpox (they're not vax'd) and my nephew had it really bad.. had it under his eyelids, they ended up taking him to hospital and the drs were worried it would go onto his lungs. So it can be a really horrible thing to have, it's not just an itchy rash! And I've heard of horrible places that little girls can get it too.. eeek! I had it when I was 15, and thankfully the rash only came out on my body, arms and in my hair, not in any of my crevices! So if the vac can reduce the severity of the virus if they still do get it.. I'm all for it! hehe.

ETA: gosh - I just read Sarah_H's thread about her nephew being born at 33+3wks and being 1.9kg. Kayla was offically 33+5wks and was 3.5kg! I'm actually starting to feel scared about having another bub :( Sorry, decided to say it to you girls, as it wouldn't be appropriate in that thread LOL.

Why oh why has Tori decided 4am is get up time? Especially as Liam is sleeping so well. After a really unsettled afternoon/ evening (he really cried for the first time in 4 weeks) he slept from just after 9-3:30 and then again from just after 4-7. I feel human again today after some decent sleep, Poor DH has been up with Tori since just after 4 though.

Alicia- Sounds like the littlest thing to a 'normal person' but getting out for Lunch with a little baby is such a treat isnt it. I enjoyed my alone time yesterday, I had lunch out on my own and read a magazine (more than 5 words uninteruppted :P )

Quiet weekend for us, lots of sleep to catch up on here, and we are going to try and get Tori back into her normal sleeping routine. I hope everyone has a nice relaxing weekend.

does anyone know if it's ok to start doing exercises on tummy muscles already, or are we supposed to wait? i had some separation of the muscles down the middle of my belly (the big ridge sticking up whenever i engaged them) and i'm dying to try out some moves on my gym ball. but not if it makes it worse. all the physio said was swimmng and biking were ok, no running for a year. pilates and yoga are fine, but what about sit ups? dayl maybe you know....

Hey Lara, my physio at hospital said to give it 6 weeks after a Bub for sit ups, that's a natural birth anyway...I am looking forward to doing them again soon!

Hi to everyone else! Madeleine had a yukky night, woke at 2am for a feed and then couldn't get her down until 4am...she was really crying, she may have had wind???? I am using Infacol Wind Drops, perhaps I should switch to Infants Friend, what do you all think?

Hi Xtml - I've been doing my sit ups every night since a week after the birth. I didnt have any problems with muscle separation during pregnancy though so I'm not sure if that is a factor in your case. I started slowly for the first few nights and there was no unusual pain or anything or I increased the reps to what I was doing pre-pregnancy. I dont know if it is recommended to wait a certain amount of time though but I needed to get back into my exercise for my own sanity and I feel a lot better for it. I say if you feel good, do it.

Bindy - Hey, Fraser was up last night from 2-4am too !!! Maybe it is the Brisbane weather????

Dayl, you and I have so many of the same things going on! Are we twins?! Hey, will have to visit you soon. Yes, I am not sure why she was a screaming Bub this morning? She has been so good so far and you feel so helpless when they are crying like that, poor little Madeleine...:(

Bindy - Luckily the 2am shift belonged to Tony this morning so I didnt even know until he came back to bed at 4am. I got the 6am shift though and he was up for another hour. I think it might be the heat because he is sleeping soundly now as I have put the a/c on in his room. Let us know next time you visit your sister as I'd love to meet my Mummy twin!!!

We have our first real family outing tonight (an Aunty's 50th) so we get to show him off to all the family who havent already seen him. Looking forward to it. He is always so good when we go out so they will all fall in love with him too, I'm sure.

Oops, I almost wrote 'good morning' but oohparently it's afternoon already... & here I am still in my pjs... oh well!!

Bindy/Dayl - I had the opposite problem to you guys last night, Scally went down like a dream about 2.30 & then it was ME who couldn't get back to sleep! :P

Lara(xtml) - I think it was a post I read yesterday from you asking how Mummies with more than 2 babies could cope.... I have been thinking I don't know how anybody copes with more than 1!! So you are doing great & anybody with more kids is an absoloute legend in my book lol. I must be a sook though as Scally has been perfect... what would I do if she wouldn't settle or cried for no obvious reason...?! Collapse in a heap probably. ;)

DP's Mum is coming over tomorrow, so is a friend of mine, then another on monday afternoon & I just got a call from my stepdad, the whole clan (parents, 2 brothers & sister) are coming down for the long weekend.... why can't we live in switzerland or somewhere equally remote...? I don't want to have to get dressed & be nice to anyone but DP & my little pumpkin!!

Hi ladies!

We had a great night here!! slept from 11:30 until 4am and then woke again around 8am!!

However since 11am we have only really slept 1 hr!!... Chrissie is asleep again now so we will see how long it lasts!! Feeding wise we had the same thing happening today as did yesterday... food every 1.5-2 hrs from 11am!! WT?!?!

Glad to hear the rest of you are doing well!! and no need to apologise for selfish posts! We all do it!.. sometimes we just don't have the time to reply to everyones posts.. doesn't mean that we don't read them! :D

have to go do the ironing while the little miss is sleeping! Will try and get back later..

Well, Kayla has been fussing on and off the boob for the last couple of days. And she had wind again last night (i'm in denial that it's chocolate doing this to her LOL). But I think the fussing is because AF might be rearing her ugly head. I got AF 3 months after having Tallon, and I've been suspicious of CM I've had lately.. and this morning I got a bit of blood streaking in it (sorry TMI) so we'll see if it becomes anything.

Haroula - all that feeding through the day is probably so she can sleep longer at night. I wouldn't complain if I were you hehehe.

The infants friend everyone is talking about does that help with wind? Sometimes i just can't seem to get Jye's wind up for some reason.
After a bit of a rough day yesterday when Jye just would not sleep no matter what i tried i was worried he'd be overtired and not sleep at night but he slept for 6 1/2 hours straight! After a feed he then went back down for another 4hours typical for him to do this when DH volunteered to get up to him and give me the night off!

Great day Olivia was fantastic.. She seems to have left the yuckiness of yesterday behind... We left here about 7:30 and got home at 5 and the only time she cried or really should say grizzle was when she wanted a feed or nappy change and we got the biggest smiles.. She has decided she hates her sling tho but thats ok... I had to run with her when I went down to the beach cus my god I burnt my feet on the sand lol.. ouch... Little miss in bed sound asleep.. oh I lay her on her tummy in the bath tonight and held her head up and she lifted her legs up under her and pushed herself up on her arms.. I was amazed...

Hi everyone, sorry I have not been online at all lately... Our internet company disconnected our phone line and internet and it has taken months for them to fix it properly, luckily all done now! To all those who dont know me hi! To all those who do I will read your posts and catch up in the next few days.

Caitlin is doing really well, settling into a routine and thanks to the dreamfeed sleeping through 8 hours at night alteast. Woo Hoo that = happy mummy and daddy!

DF has finally been accepted into the fire brigade so we are just chuffed. All in all its been a great few weeks. Gotta run Caitlin is stirring. Will check in tomorrow. Hope all you new families are doing great!

terrible night here. Olivia went to bed at 6pm woke 10:30 was back in bed at 11:30 but grunted and farted her way till 3:30 when I got the poops and got her up cus I wasn't sleeping anyway.. she finally fell asleep again at 5:40 but woke at 6 and is now layiny on me grunting away..... sigh and of course dh is working today...

HI Girls, I have been lurking, reading but too overwhelmed by all the post's to respond. LOL, sad hey. This group is seriously huge. I'd love to have a big count up and see just how many we have in here.

Abbey has been a grumpy bum the past couple of days. Not like her at all really.

So yesterday when I was bathing her I noticed some yuck on the outside of her right ear. looked like her ear had been running. When I was drying her I dried her ears and she started to scream. I looked in the right ear and it waas gunky and smelt !! Called the Dr and she saw us straight away.

Poor Abbey has infection in her ear canal. Apparently it's caused by water, chuck you name it getting trapped in their ears and causes it to inflame. So she is now on ear drops to help with the infection and I grabbed her some panadol for the pain too.

Moral to the story girls, don't let your baby get too much water in their ears when bathing them. Too damn hard I tell ya.

Shell, fantastic news about DH getting into the FB.

Nic, funny that it was so hot there yesterday. It was p!ssing down here all day, has been for the last 4 days. I am seriously over it now.

Liz, AF came back for me a week or so ago, but only spotting, enough for a liner. Give me the craps, I never got it back until Tehya was 10 months old. I guess this is the downside to a baby that sleeps good overnight. I am organising another meetup too, come into the member's meet ups and check it out. Would be great to see you.

Trish - baby that sleeps well overnight? what's that?? LOL. AF hasn't quite shown up.. i've got all the cramping, but nothing has eventuated just yet. Perhaps this is O, and AF will return in a couple of weeks.. smack bang on 3 months again. But I'm feeding 2 at the moment.. so the theory of less frequent feeds doesn't apply to me LOL. I'll go look for that thread later :)

Oh Nic - have a pj's day today :) Have you got a hugabub or something? You could wear her in it and sleep in a recliner of some sort. Then you might both get some sleep. Altho, you've got other kiddies to watch - aah well. Lock em in a safe room ;)

Liz, I think after Noah and then Tehya, who STILL doesn't sleep all night I deserve to have Abbey be a good sleeper. Still, it's only early days. All that could change.

dayl/bindy- wasn't it cold last night in bris? i got up and put extra layers on everyone, but you guys think it was hot????? my body is all messed up, i keep waking in a pool of sweat, drenching the bedding, and really feeling the cold too. but if i'm getting it wrong i culd be overheating everyone.

the boys colds have worsened. a lot of snot for a nose so small - and the colour - bright yellow!

Oh and the terrible 2's start at around 18 - 20 months and go until..... ummm I'll tell you when my 16 year old grows out of them !!

Trish: We saw the sun for the first time in days yesterday and we all got sunburnt cus we went out for the day. I was only in the sun for a maximum of 30 mins and yet I still got burnt, I guess you forget how easy it is to burn.. (olivia didn't get burnt btw)

Liz: I have a sling it is like a HAB its um... comfy carrier?? or something like that... anyways Olivia screams her head off now when I put her in it.. I wish she still liked it as it is pretty comfy and would have made walking along the beach easier yesterday lol.. She is sound asleep now

We had pancakes for breaky and was so nice to cook and then eat then clean up afterwards without worrying about Missy... Poor Little bugger has a tummy ache again. I don't want to give any IF just yet after her reaction to the rotavisur vac I want her tummy to have noting but BM for a few days...

Queen, I know what you mean about relatives! My MIL was calling before she came around but yesterday she turned up when my DP was out food shopping and I was annoyed because I was so tired. I really must keep the door shut and put a darn sign on the door that we're sleeping!

Haroula, I agree with Liz, all that feeding through the day is unreal so Bub sleeps through at night! I love the pics of Chrissie BTW.

Boo, poor Jye with his wind :( Madeleine gets a little scream up now and again because of the wind and I feel so helpless. I have her on Infacol...but my DP bought Infants Friend yesterday. Ok, what's with that stuff? The chemist gave him a lecture about it as if it were poison! Can anyone clarify this issue?

Aussienic, glad Olivia has been good, with the sling...my Madeleine dislikes being in hers too sometimes, I think it's because it's so warm at the moment, maybe when it cools down she'll enjoy being in it more, hopefully!

Shellbelle, my DP is a station officer in the fire brigade! He's been in there for 12 years and really enjoys it. Congrats to your DF, it's awesome being with a firey, their shifts are great (not all FB wives agree). He works 2 days on, 2 nights on and has 4 days off...it's great to have him around so much!

Trish, poor Abbey having an ear infection - I hope she gets better soon.

Xtml, yes it was cool in Bris last night, it's strange weather we're having, it's warm today!

I am going good except for a slightly painful right breast near my aerola, I hope it's not mastitis! It's painful to touch anyway. Will keep an eye on it.

Bub is doing well, awoke at 2am this morning and was hard to get her back to sleep so I'm really tired today but I will try and have a sleep this afternoon when she goes down at some stage!

Bindy.. the sling I have is a mesh one so it is really suited for summer. I think she is used to being in it asleep and she wasn't ready for sleep the last few times I was going to use it.. I hav a double pram but it was going to make my walk to and from school easier if she decided she wanted to be held.. Oh well.. 9 days to get her used to it again :lol:

Loved your pics by the way.. gorgeous :) and keep a good eye on your booby.. Mastitis is not fun... if it hasn't eased by this afternoon try and see someone..

As for sling, it's good that you have a summer one. Mine is not summer friendly so I might just have to wait until the humid weather goes away :(

Have you used Infants Friend? I need some advice on it as the chemist was asking a lot of questions when she sold it to my DP yesterday. She said to him "who recommended this?" and was a bit short with him so it made us feel like it's bad for Bubs!

Infants friend is off the shelf, so I wouldn't think they'd ask too many questions. I guess coz she's only 2 weeks old, perhaps check that it's ok for under 1 month. Different wind drops have different age restrictions.

Hi Liz, hmmm...yeah unsure why she asked so many questions! It's safe to use though isn't it? It hasn't got any nasties in it?

I dunno - I ended up getting infacol LOL. I would think they're all pretty similar. Perhaps they're just making sure you're not going to pour it down her throat as a cure-all. Coz their little tummies can be sensitive I spose - only designed to drink milk at this stage! :)
