Bek, short answer is yes. The food you eat does affect your milk. If you eat something that causes wind on you it will more than likely do the same thing to your baby. Also it could be something totally random that affects them too.
Abbey has been windy lately too. I know when it's wind though, she just grunts and wriggles around. She will either fart or burp then she's right again. Abbey has been abit unsettled the last few days. Not sure if on Friday it was because it was hot or not. It was her first real hot day, I ended up stripping her down to a singlet and a nappy. First time it's been warm enough for that in ages.
Abbey had a photo shoot on Friday afternoon, started around 5ish and I didn't leave until 8.30. Let's just say she was more than a little unsettled. Eventually after getting 2 feeds into her she fell asleep and we got some gorgeous shots. I can't wait to see them. I took one on my phone but I can't upload it to the gallery atm for some reason.
Nic, I hope you had a fun time shopping. What did you buy ? I have never used anything for my babies and their wind. I guess that they have never really been that bad. Is Infants Friend all natural ? I'm guessing it's supposed to make them fart or burp, but how does it do this ?
I have sooooo much wrapping to still do. I sat up until midnight lastnight doing it. Will get started again on it soon. Tehya has only just gone to sleep. I was hoping to get some more done tomorrow but now DP has to work so I will have the kids here. Buggar. Seriously, there is alot more to be wrapped and only me to do it.
-
Trish: if you google them you will find thier website. they are also Australian made which is another reason I like them. I don't think I am allowed to link to it.. ( or am I) I just googled it now and it is the first website :)
I bought so many things :) I got Olivia this cute little leap pad counting caterpilla thing :) It plays classical music as well and it counts ect and it can be wound onto the cot or pram.. My mum bought her this gorgeous shirt that says Grandmum's Perfect Princess. It is soooo cute. and I finally found her some jammies.. I also got the boys a few last minute pressies and Dh as well. I just bought him his usual wallet . I will print out our family pic to go in it shortly then wrap it.
oh and yay I finally worked out how to use my sling. A friend leant it to me and she came around today and showed me how to use it and it is excellent. It is called the Comfy Carried. I assume is a little like a HAB. or at least I think so but it has mesh sides..
Well we are in the Xmas spirit here now. We are all set up in the backyard for Xmas day.. The big tarp is up the pool is set up, chairs everywhere. Only the inlaws and my mum here at the moment but already feels festive.. 19 adults and 7 kids will be here Xmas day and at this stage sleeping here that night
woooot its almost Xmas

How quiet is it in here. I hope all had a great chrissy day with your new babies. And of course the rest of your families too.
We have been so busy and I am glad that the silly day is over now. All that money and stress gone for another year.
I have the flu something shocking. My asthma is playing up so bad that on Christmas eve I considered going into the emergancy room at the local hospital. It's still really bad and I can't talk for having a coughing fit. I wheeze like Darth Vadar. Hoping I can get into the GP on Thursday.
Poor Abbey is catching my cold too. She has a boogie nose and it's making it so hard for her to feed. Not that she's doing alot of that. After our rough start I worry when she doesn't feed enough.
Abbey slept most of Xmas day away. And when I went to the IL's I put her in my Peanut shell (sling) and wore her so she wasn't handled around too much. Of course the 10 minutes that I gave her to DP while I bathed the other kids she was passed here and there !!
Not that you can see it too clearly but the new pic of Abbey in my ticker is from the photo shoot :D

Glad you had a good Christmas!! We actually woke the boys yesterday morning.. I was running up and down the hallway making noise and in the end Dh went in and woke them lol.. it was 6:30 and we wanted pressies
Olivia did not have a good morning. she screamed on and off till nearly 12. I was almost in tears with her cus I have never seen a baby so upset. she finally fell asleep and slept 4 hours. and then last night sheesh. she was great but she woke at midnight and it was just after 3 this morning she settled down. I was close to tears from being so tired and I woke dh up and said please take over for half hour I thought I was going to throw up I was so tired. I lay down for 10 mins with my eyes closed and felt better so I got up fed her and we both slept till 8 this morning so yay a 5 hour sleep lol...
she is much happier today..
but exciting exciting.. 3am Xmas morning I get my first proper smile :) I was so excited.
well she is calling better go...
Hope everyone else had a great day

Hi all,
Just a quick check in to let you all know that I am ok (well on the way to ok at least). Olivia's birth went nothing like expected. Being induced was horrendous and then I needed an emergency c/s anyway as she got 'stuck' and would not budge! She came into the world a little grumpy (I think she was too comfy in there) but perfectly healthy and beautiful. We got to spend 4 great days together as a family in the family hospital room before I started to get really sick. It is a long and confusing story but the short version is that I developed a very rare infection (took them 5 days to diagnose exactly what kind) that started to eat away at the fat and tissue layer in my abdomen (sorry if this is TMI). I was rushed to ICU and then surgery (twice) to clean out the infection. I still have a long way to go but after 3 weeks in hospital I am finally home. I will be having regular visits from a home nurse to check up on me and change my dressing, there are huge restrictions on what I am allowed to do (not supposed to lift Olivia but I am not letting that stop me), have to take it very easy for about 3 months and there is the possibility of needing more surgery in the future to fix up the wound. So basically giving birth was NOTHING like I had anticipated!
Anyway onto better things..... Olivia is gorgeous. She makes us laugh all the time with the strange noises she makes when eating and when asleep. She is amazingly alert and loves to chat all the time. She was the absolute darling of the hospital the last few weeks and all the nurses asked about her more than me! Rob and I can't get over how beautiful and perfect she is, she totally has Rob wrapped around her little finger already. Olivia is a bit of a fussy eater though and likes to snack rather than eat big meals :-( Although last night she went for 5 hours between feeds so cant complain too much.
Sorry but I haven't had time to catch up on all the news of the last 3 weeks but I do know I missed a lot of babies arrivals - CONGRATS TO ALL!
-
Alicia Congrats on the birth of Olivia.. I am so glad you are home! Sorry you got an infection.. I hope you continue to recover well...
-
Alicia and Trish - I hope you are both feeling better soon.
Nic - a Christmas smile - what better present (other than lots of sleep) could you want.
We are still at my parent's house, going to Tamworth tomorrow to the Inlaws until New Year's Day and then back to Sydney. Sofia has been a bit unsettled, I think she is a bit stuffy in her nose and is having a bit of an issue getting her wind up. I have tried the Fess, but I have some other wind stuff that I haven't tried yet. Hope fully she will get better today, nothing make me feel like a bad mummy than taking a sick child to my MIL's place, last time she asked me what I did to make Maria sick all the time (I have an asthmatic child).
-
Just thought I would pop in and say hello. I have had a quick read through to catch up and I posted in our old buddies thread.
I have a windy bubs as well so we are still figuring out what works. Monique was really unsettled and she fed on and off from 10pm last night to 2.30 this morning. After not having any sleep since 10am yesterday, I was in tears and over it. Thankfully DH settled her for 2 hours while I had a sleep and she fed again at 4.30 but only took an hour. I am hoping we get in a routine soon.
Missy stirring so will pop in later.
-
Hmmm can't seem to upload photos of Olivia up to my gallery at the moment but have put a picture on my ticker. I know I am biased but I think she is gorgeous!
-
-
Louise your MIL sounds like a b!tch asking you how you make your girl sick!! You poor hun - reminds me of my grandmother (mum's mum). When I developed meningitits as a 3 yo she said to my mother "you only have one child and you can't even keep her from getting sick". Nice huh?
Tinsel sending you sleepy baby vibes :(
Alicia - Olivia is absolutely beautiful!!
Well, I fell in love with Oliver tonight. Was watching ER and there was a character with multiple personalities who had been abused as a kid who came out with this scared little boy personality and I got to thinking how awful it would be if anyone hurt my boys. And tears just started streaming down my face as I looked at Oliver's perfect little face :)
-
Alicia : Olivia is gorgeous !!
be back tomorrow . my Olivia calling and I need a shower while daddy settles her down.. Apparently she is very much a mummy's girl
-
-
Thanks for the comments on my beautiful girl. She just had her first visit from the maternal health nurse (late because of my hospital stay) and passed with flying colours. She is strong and healthy and already about 57cm long!!! Rob is hoping she will be a basketball star and keep us in a lifestyle to which we are happy to become accustomed :-)
Rory - I cry at things like that too. It is amazing how these little people can make you feel.
-
hello ladies.. thought i better come in and say hello.. my ds was born on 7th December even though he was due on 24th November :)
he was born via emergency c/s due to fetal distress.. but all is good now.. my beautiful little boys name is Zac!
we have had a few bad days.. but the good days make up for it and my heart just melts when he looks into my eyes :D
i haven't had a chance to read all your posts but i will soon.
ciao for now
-
Hi lovely ladies - sorry to butt in, but thought i'd just let you know that Trish is spending some time in hospital again - she's possibly mentioned her asthma playing up, but last night it got pretty bad so she went to the hospital - has been there today, and will possibly be in for a couple more days...
she said her oxygen sats were pretty low, so she's being pumped up on drugs, but is taking it easy, and relaxing while she can! she's still in good humour and has been sending me messages this arvo that are very much Trish in good spirits!
congrats to you all on your December bub's!
-
oh hugs for Trish!! I bet she is sick of hospitals by now. Send her some get well vibes from us..
hi Sirenz.. congrats on the birth of your son Zac :)
Alicia: wow 57cm long.. way to grow Olivia. My Olivia is only just 51cm now lol.. she is a tiny one..
Well ds2 calling for a shower,, *sigh* he simply cant wait till after dinner apparently
-
oh boy oh boy am I over tonight..
On a good note I meant to mention that Olivia slept 5 hours for me last night and was only awake for half hour then slept another 3 :) so 11 till 4 and 4:30 to 7:30. Was just lovely.. I was so exhausted
She is in bed now so I am hoping we have another good night. I may follow cus I seriously need to be alone. no kids no husband no mother. I love them all dearly but I am used to ME time when dh is working and I think I just need some downtime!!
-
YAY im finally in this room! :D
just a quickie hello as i hate typing one handed .. ash is clung tightly to my boob lol
hope things go well trish!!
Alicia -olivia's such a cutie!
hi to everyone else :D
-
Hey guys, I haven't been on for AGES coz our internet has been down but I am back now... caitlin is 2 and a half weeks old and doing great... I have a baby who doesn't let herself go to sleep though! she was up for 8 hours straight yesterday and wouldn't sleep ahhh! does anyone else have problems with their baby only falling to sleep on the boob???
will be back later, I have reading to catch up on! Yay on finally being home Lauren
-
just another quick message re Trish
she's still in hospital and looks to be there for another day or two. her oxgen stats are getting better but she is still having oxygen tube so she's not sure how much that is affecting the results. her peak flow output is "really poor - only about half what it should be".
she's getting some rest, but poor abbey is waking up every time someone comes in to the room - seems they haven't worked out how to gently/quietly close doors yet! obviously that wakes trish up too... abbey is apparently feeding very well at the moment, which has to be a bonus!
-
Hope things improve Trish.
Lauren - Congrats again. Can't wait to see some more photos.
Shell - I can't breastfeed because of the medications I am on (and will be on for another month) plus the fact that I was comatose for a couple to days there. But Olivia does fall asleep during feeding all the time. She drinks half her bottle then dozes off and it is hard to get her to drink the rest. Then she wants to held until she is asleep, which is usually ok but last night took until 1am.
I ventured out of the house today. This is a big deal as I am not allowed to drive and can't walk far. DH and I drove to Baby Bunting to get Olivia a bouncer (you know, the ones they sit in). She is such an active kicker we thought she would love being able to entertain herself in the bouncer. So far it looks like a winner, she has bounced away in it and is now fast asleep in it! The funny little thing constantly curls up to her right hand side, we keep finding her over the right side of the bassinette no matter where we start her off or how tightly she is wrapped.
Hope everyone else is well.
-
Shell, i dont want to qinx myself here but cant say i have the same prob. Ash is a fantastic sleeper, slept thru wednesday night and pretty much sleeps through all other nights, woke couple times for a feed but fell alseep as soon as he was done, which is how he works during the day. Always eats and sleeps lol
Hes so alert and always eating, the health nurse said today he already looks 2 weeks old as he was over his due date, it really shows, and he eats so much he never lost any weight in hospital LOL the midwives were calling him piggy baby LOL but im very happy with that anyways. Hes gonna get weighed again tomorrow so will be interesting to see how much heavier he is then!
Alicia, can u not move around cos all the issues u have or the c/sect in general. No one told me how im supposed to look after myself, rest of course, but im dying to get out and about.
-
Shell: good to see you back :) Olivia went to sleep today for the first time today not on the booby. 8 hours is such a long time isn't it.. Was it during the day? Olivia was awake for 3 hours today and thats a long time. I am expecting her to have her wake time sometime soon.. I kinda hope not but I think thats what is going to happen
Briggsy girl: Thanks for the update.. I am glad Abbey is able to stay with her. At least she is getting plenty of rest :) (meaning no housework or other kids)
Alicia: are the meds antibiotics? I can imagine you would be very sore.
Lauren: Great pic in your sig :) You can get out and about as long as you feel up to it. I was going stir crazy being at home and we took short strolls along the beach or just went for a drive. I know I wouldn't have been capable of driving ( only have learners as well) I found just very short walks helped keep me sane. I have been driving with my mum though since she has been here. if you feel up to drivbing check with your insurance though as you might not be allowed to..
Hope everyone is having a good night. I am hoping I can hear Olivia waking up. she is stirring but the little bugger has pretty much been asleep since midday. she woke briefy at 5 to be fed and then I stirred her at 6 with a bath as my boobs were going to explode and she was awake for maybe half hour and we put her in her bed at 8:30...
I am assuming it is going to be like Xmas night and I will be awake from 12 till 3 again.. so why don't I just go to bed.. i don't know  I guess I keep hoping she will wake really soon to stop my boobs exploding again.. they are so full they hurt to touch
-
Lauren/Nic - It is because of everything else that happened that I can't get around too much. To be honest (and sorry if this is TMI for some people, if you are squeamish maybe skip this bit) I almost died while in hospital as I actually had a kind of flesh eating bacteria which as well as eating away some of my tissue caused a lot of other problems. The way they are treating it is to leave to wound open and pack it with special dressings every second day. So basically I am walking around with a large hole in my stomach (about 20cmx5cm and 3cm deep) which is just covered by a light dressing. To be honest it is awful - feeding Olivia, holding her, changing her all hurt and I can't do anything else around the house. My MIL was here the last few days helping out and my mum is coming on Monday. It is going to take months to heal properly and I feel like I am missing heaps of little things that I wanted to do with Olivia. Crap now I am crying again.
-
oh alicia thats so sad to hear, im so sorry its such a bad time for u, but your very lucky olivia is a happy healthy little girl and u have the rest of your life to enjoy every moment. i know u dont get this time back, but ur still together so theres that to be lucky for :) cheer up and this time will fly and youll be back doing everything u used to soon.
sending u lots of getting better soon vibes. Take care of yourself.
-
oh alicia I am so very sorry you have to deal with this.. :hugs: It certainly cannot be a nice experience..
do they know what caused it?
-
Alicia you poor love! Are you up to having visitors (especially ones who will tidy your house while there and bring you a meal ;)) Once this hot weather is over I could pop over one day...
-
Thanks guys.
Nic - They think it was a bug (streptococcus A) that was quite happily and safely living in my body that was disturbed by the c/s and moved to an area where it couldn't live happily/safely and reacted badly. However no-one seems really sure how it happened. All the docs (I had about 5 specialists on my case) tell me I was just extremely unlucky to get it but extremely lucky to survive it.
Rory - I would love a visitor, although I will turn you down on the housework I can't stand the thought of relying on other people. I am having a hard enough time letting mum and MIL do stuff for me.
Little Miss O has decided in the last day or so that she does not like to sleep in a room on her own. She grizzles and cries when put in the bassinet if DH and I are not in there too. So at the moment she is sleeping soundly in the bouncer at my feet in the lounge room, and has been for about 3 hours. I think she got used to there constantly being people and noise around during the hospital stay.
-
Alicia - Sofia is happiest asleep with noise/people about as well and we have been home for over a month.
-
with Mirani, noise isnt a problem, we vacuum around her and she doesnt even flinch. its the same when the girls are fighting or playing near her.
the problem at the moment is wind. as a baby i had a dairy allergy and couldnt handle normal formula and had to have soy & goats, i'm going to try Mirani on a soy to see if it helps.
-
Alicia: I hope you recover well from this. It sure was unlucky really but thankful you both came through this ok. I don;t know if you can lok at it that way yet though...
Olivia sleeps in the loungerom during the day and in her room(our room) at night and that has always worked for us...
Missy or aka bubby girl :) as we are calling her now is starting to make real proper smiles. so adorable!
Last night I stayed up way to late. Beats me what I was thinking  certainly paid for it today but yet again here it is after 11 and I am just heading to bed now :)
night night all.. sleep vibes for everyone..
funny how only a few short weeks/days ago we were sending out labour vibes
-
Morning all.
You are right Nic, looking on the bright side is a little difficult at the moment although I am extremely happy that Olivia is healthy and and happy (most of the time) I am around to look after her.
I am the same about the sleep. I think it is that I need a little bit of winding down time after Olivia is sleeping so by the time I go to bed it is getting late.
I just uploaded a photo of Miss O and her big blue eyes to my gallery. Also uploaded one of her and her daddy but doesn't seem to have worked :-(
-

Oh for 4 straight hours at night, Sofia has become a bit of a day sleeper, and being on holidays away (at inlaws atm) it is hard to sleep when she does.
-
Hi all just a quickie to say I put a pic of caitlin in my gallery! BBL, hope you are all well. By the way sorry to hear about your bad experience Alicia hope your recovering well!
-
Hi girls, just a quicky from me. I was discharged finally this afternoon from hospital. And yes I am totally over them. After having ahomebirth as I didn't want to go to hosp (among other reasons) I end up in there twice after Abbeys birth, once for her and now for me. I have had this cold since Abbey was born, pretty much. It got worse when she was in special care and over the weeks I just could not shake it. Normally my asthma is only very mild. I have never been hospitalised with it before. On Boxing Day evening I had an attack and even after taking the nebuliser could not breathe. Mum rushed me to the hosp where only my oxygen sats were done and I was rushed through as a catergory 2. I waited for nothing. Spent the night in that hosp and was transferred on Thursday to a bigger hosp for more treatment. I seriously thought I'd be in for 4 hours observation and that would be it. Apparently I was sicker than I thought. The chest infection really played havoc with my asthma. Each day I was asking to go home and each day was told just one more day. I am still coughing like a 60 year old smoker but hoping that it breaks up the crap on my chest.
I haven't really caught up on the goings on in the last 4 days that I have missed on here, but hope that everyone is going well and all bubbies are growing nicely.
Abbey was somewhat unsettled in hosp, I went from a baby that I could feed and just put to bed in her bassinette to one that has to be cuddled to sleep again !! Even though I had a private room I was right near the staff doors where the kitchen staff and nurses would bang in and out of at all hours. It would literally shake my room. Abbey is sporting that lovely hormone rash on her cheeks that we really aren't sure if its from me or all the damn meds I am on. I'm also on steroids, told DP that Abbey was going to come home with boobs. She has been feeding like nothing else so I wonder if it has anything to do with them, or if it will cause a growth spurt as such ??
Thank you BG for leting the girls know. It's much appreciated.
Good to see you girls can still talk without me being in here ;)
-
Welcome back Trish.. Glad you are home. hope you start feeling heaps better soon.
shell: Caitlin is gorgeous. such a cute dress. her expression looks like she is saying.. mum not another photo LOL
Well tonight has been fairly cra**y. Olivia has screamed or fed non stop since 6. she has fed almost 2 hourly all day. She is now in bed and actually sleeping soundly. I have a feeling she was over tired today as she didn't have any decent sleep. I hope she sleeps at least 4 hours now and has a good night. M poor nipples are feeling very beaten. I was tempted to resort to a dummy tonight but the only one I have in the house was from when we tried with Jacob and I don't even think it is a newborn one. Might buy one to store in the fridge...
