roquen, alex is pretty much four hourly. if he wakes early (normally the 3:30 night feed, :()its normally for some other reason so i try keep him happy and push the feed out because then i know he's hungry and he has a good feed & sleep after, iykwim. mine are -

Roquen, I demand feed Oliver. He tends to cluster feed in the evenings, but his overnight feeds have followed the same loose pattern since day 2:

Only once did he drop the 2.30-3.30 feed and I woke up anyway!
Its roughly 3 hours between feeds during the day.

so sorry it's been a while since i've been in here. cree and zoey have been keeping me pretty busy. today i took cree to playgroup and i did my first official public BF. it went pretty well, i had to do it twice because zoey likes to feed for about 15min then get her diaper changed and just check out her surroundings then back on the boob again for anywhere between 5 to 15 mins depending on when she falls asleep. i do however have a question for you girls but it's about cree she's been sleep walking do you guys know anything about this??? i'm so affraid that she will go outside, not so much out the front door because we chain it and she can't reach it but the patio door she knows how to unlock it and open it. my backyard is fenced in due to the dog and i'm sure that if she went out there he would be right by her side but it's still frightening because it's so cold. any suggestions i would appreciate it so much.
Mummyof2tobe, my DD1 sleep walks and talks but she has never tried to go outside she usually walks into the kitchen, bathroom or my bedroom sais something then goes back to bed. I used to sleep walk also when i was little and Mum had to put locks on the doors as she found me on the balcony once. Can you put a latch on the door? or a bell or something so that it will wake you up? At least She can't go too far.
Summer was such a good little princess last night, she went to bed at 9.30 then didn't wake for a feed until 3.30 and i had the best sleep!!! She usually feeds every 3-4 hours during the night, she has her little cluster feeds during the afternoon.

Lakshman is sleeping all day now and grizzles in the evenings and seems to be awake at night. His sleeping and feeding pattern is all over the place. Last night after his 7.30 feed he was fast asleep. I had quick sleep from 10 to 10.30 and tried to wake him up for his 10.30pm feed but he was dead to the world. So I left him and he woke up at 2.30am for a feed. Geez, if I had known that, I could have slept from 10 to 2.30! what a wasted opportunity!!
I'm feeling a bit low with feeding. I'm still trying to get my milk up, with motilium, and still have to top up with formula. It just seems to me, that it's not going to increase. I feel sad when I read about mum's whose milk just do wonders. No offence to anyone of you. I'm really happy that bf is going well.
That's why I havent posted in a while. I'll try not to cry, I just feel I trying but it's not happening..
I'll try to be better at personals. I feel bad for not doing them.
Lakshman is being grizzle bum at the mo, I'll go see what's up with him.. Poor bub, he's congested and it's making it hard for him.
Marie - Sorry i can't offer any suggestions to help with Cree's sleepwalking, but i hope you can figure something out soon. Hopefully if it does happen, she will be startled enough by the cold so that it doesn't continue, iykwim? Sorry i don't know much about sleep-walking... Trina made a god suggestion about a bell on the door... that way you (if your hands are free!) or DH can hop up and guide her back to bed before she gets outside??
Prama - oh i hope he has another sleep like that for you - try and steal as many hours as you can if he drops off like that! So sorry you missed out last night... :hug: As for the BFing, can you maybe ask to try Maxolon instead? I'm not sure how different they are but you might find that it does more... Hang in there gorgeous, you are doing so very very well to have stuck it out so far already. It's very inspiring!
Well, i had my first horrid day/night with Alexander yesterday/last night. I think i've eaten something to upset his stomach (satay more than likely) because he'd been waking about an hour and then the next hour after i put him down and absolutely screaming, which is unusual for him.
Sometimes it's very short and he self settles, other times i have to give his belly a rub before he goes back to sleep. And then last night he woke every hour from 4:30 onwards. I even tried feeding him, thinking maybe he was just cluster feeding (who knows, he did stop that on about day five) but it didn't help. It ended in Mummy-tears and me telling him to shut up :( :cry:
Hopefully he settles down a bit today, he's still very grizzly but i don't have to go to him every time he wakes now.

Hi all,
Ash - Jasper has his unsettled periods too; he squirms, kicks his legs and just screams of the top of his lungs, sometimes so hard that he vomits up some of his food. Most of the time it is due to gas; I can actually feel the bubbles moving. Usually a tummy massage, leg pedalling or a warm hand on his tummy will give him some relief. Some people suggest a warm bath, but I haven't tried that yet. It is so hard to see them in pain and feel so helpless if nothing works. I have started to put earplugs in my ears when I massage him and he doesn't stop crying; it takes the edge of the crying and doesn't grate as much on your emotions:cry:. Hopefully it is just a period and they will grow out of it sooner rather than later...
On the other hand though feeding times are starting to increase!!! Over the last three nights he had missed two feeds (6 hour gaps!!!) and had about four four hour gaps instead of the regular 3 hour gaps. During the day he is not as predictable anymore though. Used to be good; 3 hours between feeds; enough time to go into town. But now sometimes 2 hourly, so might have to prepare myself to breastfeed in public. How did you girls find that?
Prama - My supply is all over the place too; sometimes I know I have enough and than all of a sudden he doesn't seem to get enough. I don't know what causes it. I am lucky that motilium works for me, so I can take a tablet when I think I don't have enough, but I am not sure whether I can keep up breastfeeding without Motilium... Will see the doc Monday the 17th for the 6 week checkup, so might quiz her about it. In the meantime don't give up hope! You've been working so hard on it, it has to work out!

Thanks for the tip on leg pedalling - i remember reading about it somewhere but had totally forgotten.
The bath does wonders (IMO) - especially if you give them a bit of a massage as well (my mum showed me how and oh my goodness alex loves it!!). Just be careful when you take him out, last time alex had a bad tummy in the bath he pood in the towel and all over his feet... ::doh: :cryinglaugh:
As for Bfing in public... i'm not game... my pump and freezer has become my friend for the eventual JIC.
Ash - Thanks! Yes he is terribly cute and so is Alexander! I just read your birth story; I admire you for doing it without pain relief. I caved in and had a spinal; which I have to say was what I needed because of the lack of a supportive midwife, so hopefully next time better!
There are some good baby massage/settling techniques on the reflux/colic forum, I don't know how to insert links, will try if you can't find it. Another thing that works for Jasper is undo his nappy and part is butt cheeks a little; make sure you are standing to the side or are covered by a towel; can be explosive!! :D

only time for a quick post. Had a bad day/night and haven't had much sleep. Just had a nap for about 40mins as my DH is home but am finding it hard to switch off.
My MIL had the boys yesterday so I thought I would have a catch up sleep day -- Sophie just wanted to have long feeds and then had trouble going to bed so by last night we were in a bit of a mess. She has fed 3 and a half hourly today so hopefully we are on track for a better night.

hi there, sorry for the quick post - will catch up properly later but wanted to share our update. I had been a bit concerned with DD as she is feeding for only 5 to 10 mins then won't take any more and will more than likely fall asleep, then burp then fall asleep somemore. So i was concerned she wasn't getting enough milk in the 5 mins.
my Maternal nurse has just been and it seems she has put on over 700 grams since she was born 10 days ago. So clearly, she's a greedy guts and manages to get all the milk she needs in 5 mins. I was pretty blown away by the weight gain and wondered what the average gain was in the first couple of weeks?
I'm back! Zoe was born on the 29th Feb....a gorgeous little Leap Year Bub.
I haven't found the time to pop in here yet to say hi....the computer is upstairs and it's quite a chore to get up here. I had a big 3rd degree tear (on top of an episiotomy) so I am still in recovery mode.
Haven't read all your posts yet either....but I hope all is going well with everyone!

Sorry I have been missing in action over the last couple of days - just can't seem to "get it together". And using old and very slow computer until our usual one is fixed. I have missed way too much to do personals but have quickly skimmed though and sounds like everyone is coping OK.
Danda - congratulations on the arrival of Zoe - a leap year bub ! Less birthday parties to organise!
Roquen - I am demand feeding DS and not in too much of a pattern as yet. Roughly feeding 7.30-8.30pm, 12.30-1.30am and 4.30-5.30am - I am exhausted !
Last night he didn't settle very well after both is feeds. Lots of grunting and groaning so I assume he had a bit of tummy wind. He grunts and groans a lot in his sleep anyway so wasn't too worried but in hindsight I think I should have got him up and helped him out a bit more.
Esme - I will try the tummy rubs and cycling his legs.
Visited MHCN today - obviously no supply issues here with b/f. My little budda has managed to put on exactly 1 kilo since birth. From 4.34kgs to 5.34kgs !! And he is only just over 4 weeks - he's a big one !!!
I am trying so hard to get some sleep during the day but find my mind is racing 100 miles an hour and don't get any - anyone having this ??
Jacki i find i can't sleep if i'm actively trying to... Have you tried reading a book in bed, or writing a diary that sort of thing?
It's the only thing that gets me off to sleep in the day... at night i'm eventually exhausted enough to conk out.

if I remember correctly, they are meant to put on anything from 150gms a week.
I know everything is so confusing. For me even.
Had the midwife come see me again today cause Bry had only put on 60gms in a week (before his feed, after his feed was 160). Anyway, we re-weighed him and in 3 days, he'd put on 120gms so he's doing well.
I'm sorry to hear about the unsettled nights. I've had the same problems. Last night it was every 2 hrs he fed. I'm buggered and Dh goes away tmw to UK for a week so I'm a single mum for a week. Not sure how I will cope, but I am sure I will.

The LC told us they are supposed to put on 20g a day.
Lakshman sometimes feeds every 3 hrs, and sometimes falls so fast asleep during his feed, he wont wake up for me. Then wakes up in an hr hungry again....
Sometimes he's good and other times it's all over the place, and then my anticipated 30min stolen sleep time vanishes into thin air..
Prama, summer does that too at the mo, she fed so often yesterday and then today she has been asleep most of the day and bb's are so full. Every time i have fed her today she falls into such a deep sleep and nothing wakes her up. I'm probably due for a night time full of snacking now!!! With DH away i had her in bed with me this morning.
DD1 got christened tonight, Summer had a nice chuck all over her, was quite funny.
Congratulations Danda, i have a leap baby too, apparently at my hossy the labour rooms were full during the day (9 rooms!) so luckily Summer came late that night or i would have had her in the hallway hehe.
My goodness Jacki very good weight gain, he must love his bb.

I hear all of you guys on the sleep thing. Last night was particularly shocking as bubs is still all over the place regards feeds and sleep. It got to a point where I fed him from 2:30-3:30am and put him down and he didn't want to sleep. I had had 2 hours and was exhausted. DH suggested we let him scream a bit to wear himself out and hopefully settle to sleep. After 10 minutes I couldn't stand the crying anymore and screamed at DH that I couldn't listen anymore and that he must be a heartless b@stard to be able to lie there and snooze with that going on (still a bit hormonal I think!). I got up and fed him for a further 30 minutes and he slept until 8:30 when DH gave him a bottle of EBM. He downed 80ml and slept until 12:30! Any one have any idea of how to reset their clock (without letting them scream?)
Prama - try not to get too stressed out with the whole BF thing. You need to do what is best for bubs AND you! No point having a BF baby and having a mum that is tearing her hair out and stressing. You have to enjoy this time with them while they are so small, cause they don't stay that way for long. I admire you for trying so hard, and even a little bit of BM is better than nothing.
Anyway, might try and get to bed early tonight. With the little man not keeping to a strict timetable yet, it is hard to say when he will wake up!

Trina - bub seems to only fall asleep when we lie him on the bed next to us. He cries for ages in his bassinet otherwise. It's like a switch when we take him to bed, then we put him back in the bassinet.
Some ppl say you should make them sleep in their bassinet only and not take them to bed, not just beccause of SIDs but because it becomes a habit. I dont know, at this stage we just want him and us to be asleep.
Wonderful weight gains girls! wow, they grow so fast. I wish I could give Lakshman some of my preggy weight!
Kirsten - thanks, hun xoxox. DH manages to sleep thru his cries sometimes and I wake up at the slightest whimper.. that's mothers, eh? It's so hard to hear them crying and crying..Bub does that now, put him down and he cries and cries, and as soon as we pick him up, butter wouldnt melt in his mouth.
Here's hoping bubs' sleep at least for 4hrs tonight.

Bit too good IMO, LOL, Alexander had a spew everywhere after i put him in it tonight. And then three huge burps. Maybe the spew was just because he's a guts (is 120ml normal for his age??? and he feeds in like ten mins too) & might do the trick for his burping, who knows ;)
Ash - amount per feed, there's a formula: xkg X 150/no of feeds per day.
I hope he's ok! he was shaken not stirred!
Thanks Prama - i worked it out last tuesday and he should be having roughly 90ml per feed off that weight, guess i will see this week again with the weight check at the MCH centre. Ill just be more careful with the amount of EBM i put in a bottle, otherwise he gutses the whole lot and i suspect that's why he spewed so much...

It can become a habit Prama but they are only little for so long and they grow out of it. Tahnie still comes into our bed sometimes and she is 4.5 but if i am too tired or want lots of room i just take her back into her bed. I love it you get lots of cuddles. This morning i had Codie, Tahnie and Summer all in bed with me all sound asleep, i couldn't stop looking at them all hehehe.
Summer was a little angel last night, went to bed at 9.30 woke at 2.30 then 7am and is still asleep. It makes such a difference when you get a good sleep, i doubt it will last so am making the most of it.

Thanks for the suggestion girls, I went out today with a friend and I found these alarm things that you put on your door or window and when the magnet seperates either an alarm or a chime will go off. I picked up 2 one for the front door and one for the patio door. Now all I'll have to do is remember to turn them off during the day and then turn them back on at night. I might just get one for the kitchen window for security purposes too. I looked on line and it said that sleepwalking usualy occures in children 5 to 12 so Cree's a year ahead of her time. But as far as causes are concern it says it usualy comes down to fatigue, loss of sleep or aniexty. All 3 make sence since Zoey's now in the picture. Hopefully this was a one time deal. Other than that Zoey we're doing okay just lossing our minds on school days lol. hope everyone is doing well!!!!
We're taking Lakshman to his doctor now, he's having a lot of phelgm and sounds so bad at night.
He was very good last night, had his feed at 10pm and didnt cry when he went to sleep. I woke up at 2.30 to see if he wanted a feed but he was still fast asleep. He woke at 4!! What a bonus. we had like 5 hrs sleep, tho i kept waking up to see if he was ok. but still!! then woke up at 8.

Had a good girl sleeping last night went down at 9pm slept till 1am and then woke at 5.30!!
Pity that i had food poisoning and was up with vomiting and diarrhoea all night after the 1am feed. Had to get DH to give her a formula feed at 5.30 and Now DH is vomiting.
If only I could get some sleep

Had the best night sleep last night! Jasper had his upset period from appr. 7 til 9, then, after a feed, off to bed and he slept until 2.20! From 2.20 he slept til 6 and then 9.30; so we got a very good sleep! Makes all the difference... Hopefully he'll keep this up. So far so good, the last three nights have been similar. The only negative is that he has a definate upset period in between 7 and 9; crying of the top of his lungs and nothing seems to settle him. But if he sleeps so well overnight I am prepared to put up with that!

prama - I hope DS is ok. DD used to fall asleep a lot during feeds, I found changing her half way through helps sometimes, but other times nothing works!
Jacki - I was wondering how you were doing. I also have trouble sleeping a lot of the time - too many things to think about! And what a big bubby - that is a massive weight gain! I think DD has put on nearly that much since she was born too, but she was only 3.4kg at birth, so probably around 4.4-4.5kg now. It is amazing how fast they grow!

I think DD must have had a cold or something, as after being absolutely horrible for three days, she is herself again and I am getting some sleep! She is now managing a 4 to 5 hour stretch at night and is usually pretty easy to get down after her other two night feeds, so I think she is starting to understand day and night. I also discovered saline drops for blocked noses after a particularly difficult night - saved my life! It is amazing how much better you feel after a good sleep - like a whole new person. We have also had a couple of smiles lately which is just beautiful!
Thanks Girls - DS is ok, looks like congestion only in his nose, not chest etc so that's good. We're going to continue giving him saline drops and try to suck out some phelgm. Poor bubba.
Bun - glad she's ok and sleeping well!

Bun- Hooray on the good sleep. Getting so much in one hit is great hey! I will have to get the saline drops. Amber is a bit congested in the nose too. What are they called? How are things with you and DH going?
Prama- Good news about Lakshman. So are you officially going to spell him Lakshman or Laxman? Do you have a nickname for him? From your posts you sound a lot better to early on. I am glad you sound happier.
Esme- Your boy is sleeping so beautifully. My DD is doing well at night too. Last night she went 10-2 then 245-630 then 7-9. Apart from the rude awakenings it is amazing what sleep can do. How is the wind going? Amber is seemingly burping now at least once every feed.
Sue- I hope you feel better soon. What was it you ate? Lucky your DD slept well for you.
DD is crying again.... She wont sleep very well during the day. We put her down and then 10 minutes later she will wake again. We get perhaps an hour stretch with her at the moment. She then dies at about 730ish and we have to wake her for a feed and bath before we go to bed then she is good at night.

Sue - Hope you and DH are feeling a little better. As for your midwife comments on 150gm weight gain per week ........ think I am going to have to starve me little one (he has averaged 250 per week!!).
Bun - Great news on the 4-5 hour stretch at night. Also don't you just love it when they wake feed and back to sleep quickly and you can get back into bed with DH !!

Luke is now pretty alert during the day after feeds and taking a lot longer to settle back down to sleep. Sometimes he is awake from what seems like ages. When you bubs are awake after a feed during the day how long are they up for ??? I keep thinking he must be getting over tired by all the awake time he is getting. What do you think ?

Do you bath in the morning or in the evening? And what is the routine. Do you wait for bubs to wake, then bath, feed and back to bed ???

We had takeaway Chinese and I think it was the special fried rice that did it!!
Jacki -- DS is having some lovely awake time too -- about one and a half hours to two hours. She is fairly easy to settle -- wrap cuddle dummy for a few mins and then into bed.
We are currently bathing at night -- so she will have a bath before next feed about 6.30pm and then have feed and into bed. I find the johnsons bedtime bath works a treat. She may not sleep until 8pm but we will see how we go.

JEnjams- thanks heaps! I think I'm feeling more positive now and taking things one day at a time. Things are becoming more routine.
We're going to go with Lakshman, it's closer to how it's pronounced. Laxman is pronounced the same but just the spelling is different. We thought it will save him having his name mis-pronounced all the time and being teased at school, like lacks man, laxative man (DH thought of that!). My friend just told me, he might get called Lucky.. yukk.
Lakshman does the same somtimes when we want him to sleep.
Jacki - ditto, we jsut fed him and he's wide awake.. Want him to sleep so we can too.
We bathe him in the evenings, after DH gets home from works so we can do it together. My mother gets worried, lol, cause she believes he will get sick etc.
Esme - hope you're feeling better. Better not have that takeaway again. Poor you and DH..
ps. i went to the health food shop today, and asked about what I could take to increase my milk. the lady told me she's had several woment take Fenugreek tablets and they worked. So im trying them. will let you know if it works
aaarrrrghh had a shocker night!
Jordan must be a bit colicy - last night he just wouldn't settle. He had slept after his bath from about 630pm till 955pm (I normally try to feed him around 8pm but he wouldn't wake up lol) so I gave him a good feed then - he went 15 mins each side (normally only does 10), then it was him awake - crying/looking hungry all the way till 2am. I tried top up feeding at about 1120pm and again at nearly 1am but the feeding didn't seem to help. He kept acting hungry right after, I was starting to cry by 1am, worrying I had no milk left or that he was in pain with gas and convincing myself I am a terrible mother who doesn't know what her bub needs! We had a great night the night before so I guess I was due for a shocker!
He finally slept from about 2 till 5am then I fed both sides again and he didn't stir till 740am.
DH and I tried for a while to settle without resorting to feeding, but when he acts very hungry it was breaking my heart not to feed him, but I'm also wary of letting him use me as a dummy.

ash, 120 is fine for ur man I think. Bry has more than that. I think the chuck is more because wind gets caught under the feed. I find if I burp every now and then thru the feed, the chuck is much less. U get to the point where u can feel bubbles of wind as the develop and know when to burp. But even so, it's impossible to get rid of every bubble. But I find burping earlier in the feed is the way to go.
Jacki, I find if I bath bry, it's easier to feed first cause then he's more relaxed and not screaming cause he's hungry. And I don't think day or night matters so much. I think it's a matter of what fits best for u. Just keep the room warm and u'll be right hon *hugs*.
Well, I'm a single mum now. Dh is gone. He's in san fran atm. Missed his connection to Heathrow because his flight was late. So he's stressing and on standby for the next flight. Let's hope he gets it! Means he can't sight see tho. Poor bugger. Bry had a good sleep. He slept from 10pm till 3:30am, then back to sleep at 4:30 thru to 7:30 so I am feeling a LOT better.
I hope all the bubbas are starting to settle in and go longer between feeds. Love and hugs to all!
Roquen - so sorry about bub not sleeping well. It's so hard when they cry, it's heart breaking and sometimes we dont know what to do.
I hardly slept last night too.
Lakshman's phelgm is giving a hard time. He could hardly breathe and kept opening his mouth to breathe. Woke DH up at 1.45 and we got his nasal saline drops and managed to get some phelgm out. He slept well for a bit then it started again. I felt so sorry for him, to hear him try to breathe in his sleep. I stayed up just watching him to make sure he was ok. He woke up at 4 and had a feed, and I finally went to bed at 5.30. And just quickly had an hrs nap.
My poor baby, I wish he could blow his nose..
