Morning everyone!
Lots of interesting discussions at the moment, will try for some personals today if missy stays sleeping!
Sazz, for the hospital stay, it sounds like it was a nightmare for you but glad some good came out of it. Hope you continue to improve and work out what is right for the two of you and your sanity! I havent cried today either!!
Bindy, Adeline likes her bouncer when she is awake and bounces happily for awhile, but then will start screaming- I think she feels abandoned in it- she is happy when I stay there and chat to her but if I move away (ie back to watch tv) she cries! We do a little cosleeping, my DH is better than I am, during the night after a feed Addy can stay restless and want cuddles- Dh puts her against him and they sleep for hours. When I do it she often nuzzles for a feed, or I cant sleep cause I wake scared that I have rolled on her!
Karen, hon you dont need our permission to stay with this thread, its a public forum remember. I think your confidence is down from last week!! Just stay, chat and know you are welcome.
Dayl, we arent in a regular pattern yet for day sleeps. I think we are sleeping and feeding better in the day and awake and unsettled more at night. I am not too worried though. I have been reading a pinky mackay book about babies and have decided that I agree with her that bubs dont actually know routine and she will sort herself out in good time! As long as I get some sleep, I am doing ok!
Nik, hugs on the weight gain and feeding issues. You sound like mentally you are doing really well with it all. Dont forget you can offload on us anytime!

Hi everyone!
Just thought I would let you know that I have written Celeste's birth story up. Sorry it is a bit long!!!
-
Hindonly - Thanks for the info re daytime sleeping. I must admit that although he does wake every 2.5 - 3 hours during the night, he is very easy to put back in his cot so I shouldnt really complain and when I get up in the morning I'm not too tired as our night time feeds only last about 15 minutes. I guess there are others out there a lot worse off.
NikW - Good luck with the weight gain and your weigh in again on Sunday. Like Bindy, I started out determined to only breastfeed and when it didnt go to plan, I felt a little guilty about going to formula but now, I wouldnt change anything. I love formula feeding and Fraser is thriving on it. I was expressing for the first four weeks but slowly my supply dwindled to almost nothing so it just isnt worth my time expressing now just to give him one feed a day of breastmilk.
Bindy - Fraser usually eats between 40-60ml at a time during the day and sleeps in 3 hour blocks and 90-120ml at night and also sleeps in 2.5 - 3 hour blocks so I dont know what the deal is. I guess he knows how much he wants to eat and how much he wants to sleep and he is healthy and happy so I"m going to let him work his own routine out. I was also reading something on the internet about co-sleeping and it is being more and more recommended by health professionals so if it is working for you, I say stick with it.
Sazzafrass - Celeste sounds about the same as Fraser as far as eating/sleeping patterns go. Like I said above, I"m going to let Fraser work his own little routine out because it isnt like I"m up with him for hours at night. He is very good at night.
Hawksey - I feel for you! We have our unsettled period around 5-6pm (just in time for when Daddy comes home to take over!!!) and I would hate it if it was during the night like you. I guess I should count myself lucky. At least you're getting sleep though so that is one good thing.
Well, I'm not going to try to keep Fraser awake again. He got really cranky and then he wouldn't feed so I ended up with a screaming squawking tired and hungry baby who wouldnt settle until about 30 minutes ago and although he seems to be asleep, I think it is a really light sleep as he keeps crying out in his sleep which means we are probably in for a rough afternoon too! He only drank 30ml before heading off to sleep so I dont think he'll be down for long. It seems I've created a vicious cycle now for the rest of the day (and probably night too). You live and learn.

Hi Ladies,
Still here and no movement at the station...
Sazz I just read your birth story. OMG what a time Celeste put you through! Wow is all I can say.
-
Hi Ladies, hope everyone is having a good day.
God I wish there was some decent food in this house...!! DP keeps bringing things home for (& making, bless him) dinner but seems to forget that I also need to eat when he's not here!
Bindy - I am impressed by your positive attitude on going out/shopping with bub - I have been contemplating taking Scally into work to see everyone for a week, decided I'd go today but realised this morning before I got out of bed that one of the main people I want to see her doesn't work today... aw damn... lol ;) Now I'll have to talk myself into going sometime next week... it's just that I keep thinking of negative scenarios, like what if she starts screaming & will not stop?!
Dayl - IKWYM about keeping baby awake, I've done that accidentally a couple of times, thinking 'She'll sleep if she's tired' but oooooohhhh no. I don't think there is much worse than an overtired baby... I have certainly learnt my lesson!!
Hawksey - I haven't said this yet, thought it but forgot to say, Adeline is a lovely name... :)
Has anybody heard anything of Maz...?? I hope things are going great for them.
Scarlett has been waking up every 15-20mins for the last hour, has about 3 sucks on bb the goes back to sleep!! As long as she's not screaming I don't mind atm.
Our co-sleeping has been going extremely well, she's sleeping longer at night now & settling quite quickly after her feeds, although her feeds are still quite long at night. Often I feed her while I'm still lying down & she is swaddled & we both end up asleep in the end.
Ooh, there is a bit of a grizzle, might go get myself a drink before I'm on Mummy duty again....

Hi Everyone,
My body is being treated like a holiday resort as of today - I really am interested in what triggers labour and how the baby or body knows it is time - because consciously I am over it.
Bindy and Jo - my 1st and 3rd son's had blocked tear ducts.
My third son was worse in terms of controlling infection and the length of time he had it - his eye continually watered and would get infected (despite massage, breast milk did help though - esp. with the reddening around his eye), people always asked about it because his eye was always watery and red. We used antibiotics on and off to control it, antibiotics you're not meant to use for more than a few days.
His eye finally cleared up completely around 6 months ago (it was all of a sudden). It was getting to the point where our GP said he would have to go off to a specialist to have treatment - but I am glad we gave it some more time - apparently the op doesn't always work and it can flare back up again. I think you are not able to take bubby for the surgery until after 6 months, however I got told it generally clears up by around the 12 month mark on its own.

Hi girls I made it back woohooo! except I forgot everything I just read arg! i'll try and remember some things...
On the breast feeding subject I also have a left side feeder LOL although it's better now I ended up with grazing and the start of mastitus so I had to get him over to the dark side before It got too bad, thankfully he's worked it out now.............oh speaking of boobies, I'll be back later need to feed Luca

Hey girls,
I've just been hanging out in the Jan buddies thread with Jen and Jess. I can't wait 'til we're all in here together...
Hope everyone's going great.

Hello Lovely Mummies and Bubbies,
Maz.. Thinking of you!
Been ages since my last "check in". Thought on posting my birth story and my breastfeeding story as well. Sorry for the lack of personals. Im not sure when ill be able to catch up on that!
JOSHUA's Day of Arrival.
Ok.. On Wednesday 23rd I was booked in for another Midwife appt as I was 41+4 weeks. She did an Internal Examination and found me about 1cm dilated. Was booked in then for a induction for the following evening using the gel. On Thursday, DH and I went out shopping.. bowling.. hanging out with my family. Was experiencing some BH in the morning.. but by the afternoon they got a little more intense. Once at the hospital the midwife did another internal and found that I had dilated to 2cm. She "stirred" things up a little more and said that we where free to go home and let "nature" do the rest. Once I was home.. I was in labour.. !!! Did not sleep a wink. Paced the living room. Watched a little telly. TIRED to sleep. The contractions where getting to about 3-4 min apart .. but as the sun came up... they slowed right down!! HOW FRUSTRATING!!! I was due to return to Hospi at 7am so no need to rush now! At the hospi they did another internal... YAY... more dilated. So my waters where broken and the show was on the road. I had the gas, but found it made me loose focus and feel kinda sick. So the bath and shower where my friend. I think I screamed the whole ward to attention.. !! Funny when I think back.
Then at around 5pm that night the midwife was noting the baby's heartbeat and during my contractions .. the heart rate was dropping very low.. then steadily get back to normal between the contractions. Seeing I had been awake for 36 hours and in labour for a good part of that.. they called the doc's in. Baby was far enough down to deliver vaginally.. PHEW!! The doctors pulled him out via suction cap. OUCH!!! Joshua Damien was born at 6.10pm. Thankfully .. after the tests where done on his ambilical cord... he was pulled out in time! Any longer.. as I was later told.. and his oxygen supply would have been cut off!!! SCARY!! I ended up with a third degree tear but the little angel was well worth it!
I have had some breast feeding problems.. due to his tongue being stuck to his mouth more forward than the norm. Seems to be in the family I was later told by my mum. So he can not stick is tongue out as far as the rest of us. And that .. apparently... is hindering my latching on! We are doing ok now. After him loosing more weight once home.. and being told he need to eat!! DUH!! My boobies where SO SORE.. I cried and cried thinking it was never going to get better! I persisted.. and although my nipples are still sore.. the little man is feeding well.. and the pain of initial latching on is only brief.
Ok .. that was enough rambling on from me. The little man is due for another boobie.. so id better get going. Hopefully I can settle in a "routine" of some description and catch up with all you lovely ladies some more very soon. Fabulous to read everyone's stories!
Take Care:D

Hi ladies,
Am here pumping away as usual. Very tiring but hopefully it will pay off. My boobies are fuller but nothing like they were when my milk first came in. The most I've been able to express is 40ml. For some reason I get more late at night. Must be because I'm too tired to stress out......she's been a boobie monster today. hopefully that's a positive sign, although she sucks really well for max 10 minutes and then kinda just gives up and bludges....oh well. weigh in tomorrow will tell us how she's going....
Tascha - thanks for the birth story. so glad everything turned out well. breast feeding can be so difficult!
thanks for the well wishes everyone else. It's so nice to be part of this group. i can't believe some people would have bad opinions of women who use formula. I mean if you have no other choice because your body or your baby just aren't working in sync, what do they expect you to do, let your little one starve?! Anyway, i better go before she wakes up again. today has been interesting to say the least. there we go, she's now stirring. thanks again for the kind words ladies. sorry for the lack of personals xxx nik and amy
-
Hi girls, Tascha thanks for your birth story I'm so glad Joshua came safely  Nik I hope Amy picks up her feeding soon so you don't have to express for too long.
-
Nik, can't wait to hear how much Amy weighs, good luck tomorrow! As for people forming opinions on formula fed babies, it's really unfair as Madeleine is now formula fed and is so happy. I am happy too and we really enjoy each other every day. I don't care what anyone thinks, it's about Madeleine and I and what makes us happy. Every baby is different, every Mum is different. My little girl is healthy and that's all that matters to me.
Thanks Tascha for sharing your birth story.
Karen, I was over it too! I took EPO, RLT and DTD a bit to bring Madeleine on but still chose to be induced (even though I was 2cm dilated anyway!) at 40w+3d! I was sooooooooooooo over it at the end and was glad when I met my little one!!
Queen, you'll go out soon and love it! Scarlett will be fine. As for co-sleeping, that's fantastic it's going well. Madeleine also co-sleeps with us and it's awesome! She won't go down in her cot no matter how much we try anyway. But she fed at 6.30pm last night and didn't wake until 4.30am this morning for a feed. So that's a 7, 8 and 10 hour break this week...hopefully she's cut out that early morning feed because we're getting more sleep, she's happy and everything is going well. Let's cross our fingers though!
Dayl, yeah will stick with the co-sleeping for now, nothing else is working anyway! Hope Fraser is well!
Hawksey, isn't it funny how they love their bouncers! Madeleine adores hers to sleep in all day.
Thanks Sazz, will carry on with the co-sleeping!
Today was a good day, Madeleine smiled tonnes, we went to visit Nanny and Pop, it was fun. I get sad though because my Dad passed away from a long illness in August last year (while I was pregnant) and I wish he was here to see Madeleine :( but I know he's at peace now and watching over her. She'll only have my DP's Dad and I will make sure she knows all about her Pa who died last year. I really miss you Dad :(
Well off to have some dinner, my DP has cooked us pasta!
Have a good night everyone.
Love Bindy xo

I went through the same feelings with my first baby, he was born with a high palette and I had flat nipples so it made bf'ing a bit tricky, I started using nipple shields in the hospital and then I couldn't get off them, when they weighed him he wasn't gaining weight and by 6 weeks the pediatrition said I need to suppliment his feeds with formula, well ofcourse he wouldn't go back to the breast after having it so easy with the bottle so I ended up in tears and fully bottle feeding, I tried expressing but only got a little out at a time and I was exhausted. I was devistated I felt like a falure and was pretty sensative to what people would say but I look back now and I think I was more worried about what others thought than what was actually the best thing for my boy kwim? It's an emotional roller coaster we all want to do the best and we're all told breast is best but it's not always possible. Bindy good on you for trying and your right it IS what's best for baby and you than is most important
...... Wow listen to me! I think I must have issues still
Here's a question for you all is anyone using a dummy? and have you had anyone put their oppinion to you about them?
-
Sorry i havent been in here lately Ladies had friends & family visiting and been busy being a mum SO WEIRD!!.
I've been checking in and reading the posts but cant remember what has been said my baby brain has been in overdrive haha.
Tiff- i've given Sophie a dummy a few times and MIL wasnt too impressed but didnt stop me from giving it to her. I only use the dummy to settle her otherwise i dont use it.

Hi everyone! Congratz to everyone I've missed and thank you to all the gilrs how wrote on our birth anouncement. We've been home for 1 week today and Flynn is doing really well. I been mostly checking in on Jen & jess on the Jan thread but can't wait until they have their bubs so we can all be here. there seems to a lot of you I haven't meet so hi! Have just tried to catch up on the jan thread will try to catch up on this one next time. hope everyone is going well with the feeding & sleeping, Flynn still doesn't have a pattern and my boobs are going crazy and sore he either sleeps so much I have to wake him or is awake feeding like a mad man. have the child health nurse coming on monday so will be good to see if he has put on weight. its been really hot here and is anyone having a hard time knowing what to dress them in when they go to sleep? I get worried he'll get too cold but its so hot dh wants to just have in a singlet. anyhow will try and keep up. hope everyone has a good night sleep tonight xx Mel
Ps - Maz lots of love & hugs your way mate hope all is better with little mateuz.
-
Mel so great to see you again

Tiff: Was just reading your last post about b/f your first child. It sounds exactly like what happened to me recently with Bodie. I felt like a failure too, but am getting used to formula feeding now, the more people you speak to the more mothers have forumla fed. My SIL bottle fed too so I didn't feel too bad. It's just what feels right for the mum and bub.
I didn't use a dummy with Bodie for the first 3 weeks but like Jo said I just use one to settle him to sleep. I think the Tommie Tippee ones are the best, tried the Avent ones but the ball on the end wasn't big enough.
Mel: Good to see you in here! Glad to hear Flynn is going well. I know what you mean by the weather and what to dress them. Tonight it's raining here but very humid so I think I'll put Bodie in just a singlet and nappy then put some socks. Then I'll wrap him in a light wrap. He always seems to pull his arms out anyway.
Well Bodie has been sleeping better (every 4 hours) which is great for us as a few days ago he was awake from midnight right through to 6am! So it has been good getting sleep in between feeds.
He's alot more alert now and seems to focus on alot more things. It makes me wonder what he can see now, if he can see normally?
We're getting Foxtel on Tuesday!!! YAY! I'm so sick of those Infomercials (stupid proactive) during the night. LOL
Anyways better go, hi to everyone else!
April & Bodie xo
-
April- Sophie is like Bodie isnt keen on having her arms wrapped either, but i've perserved to wrap her arms and if she is a houndi & gets them out so be it but atleast i tried haha, Sophie did a full houndi the other day in the bouncer got her arms out and then kicked the blanket off  Woohoo on getting foxtel, but i'm sorry to be the one to break it to you but you'll still get thr infomercials on foxtel but atleast you'll be able to change the channel.
