Hi everyone!
Bel - Sorry if TMI but we're trying very hard this month lol!! Lets hope all the hard work pays off.:) I bought some OPK stick things for the first time ever and started on day 8 after AF started as it suggested on the box. And there were 2 strong lines...so we started early. Maybe I O earlier than normal?? But I kept testing anyway and the lines were there for 4 days before I gave up with the sticks WTF!!hehe they are probably made by a man! So who knows, we've got a TWW, but will probably keep trying until AF comes, as we just don't know about my cycle anymore.
glad the injection went well for Coby. Those teethie pegs give them hell don't they? Makes you wonder sometimes why nature is so mean. Al has 2 on the bottom and 3 on the top - one of the top front ones is still not down yet though (hope it comes!!lol)
He woke with a rash on his back today so we're keeping an eye on it. Maybe a sweat thing, i hope.
LOL at the little Jedi you have there!!
Kate - enjoy your restful weekend honey. Will be good to get a break, you're a lucky one to have some support there. You're not an old lady, so don't beat yourself up. Get those feet up and zone out.
We are going to have the vaccinations - I think they are essential. I've read the horror stories too, and pray that it wouldn't ever happen to us. But to not be vaccinated is also a huge risk, considering the amount of travelling we intend to do.
Al is on a huge learning curve right now. He has quickly picked up 'Ta' and gives me whatever is in his hand. He is saying 'mumma' (yay) although not to me specifically (pmsl). And he is eating off a plate AND not throwing it on the floor afterwards!
He's cruising and is standing on his own unintentionally more and more often. At this rate he'll be doing algebra and long division before his first birthday lol.
I have my final exams starting tomorrow and 2 next week, then its over with my Danish study. yeehaa! Unless I decide to go back and get a further qualification, but I may put that off until next year.
-
WTG Deb, hope you ace those exams honey!! Good luck with the TWW and TTC, we've been "busy" too this month, so hopefully it will pay off. I have those stick things too, maybe I should try them....
Wow at Al learning Ta and eating off a plate etc he's going great guns and yes you're right, he'll be a regular Albert Einstein before we know it!
Thanks for the back up on the vaccinations, I feel better knowing that others have done it too for the same or similar reasons we did. We just feel that they are at a huge risk if they don't do it and they could end up with brain damage if they get measles, so I just think that its a big risk to take, too risky for my little guy!! I just pray that he'll be ok....
When are you planning on coming back to Oz?
-
Thanks Bel for the luck, it'll be fine. I am taking the laidback approach and not worrying too much about the results. Unlike a lot of my class mates, I'm doing this course for fun.
Hehe yes young Einstein here. Forgot to mention he has a second bruise on his forehead now. He did a classic manouvre whilst drumming yesterday. He was cleverly standing and beating on his djembe (drum) and then lost balance pushed it forward, the drum rocked backwards then forwards - then Al fell forward and gave it a good headbutt before they both fell on the floor. The first bruise is still there - nearly 2 weeks, so it was a really bad one.
We plan to come back to Oz for another visit in January but it will depend on how pregnant (if at all) I am. We will probably come and settle back there in 4-5 years, but its not set in stone.
Some things I like about here are - education (very laidback and lots of room for creativity and play for the small ones) - public health system is very good - environment is quite clean, not too much traffic, which is dreadful in sydney, where I come from - lots of public facilities which are free to use and well maintained (eg playgrounds are fully equipped, clean, bursting with activity and they are abundant).
But Oz has the beautiful climate, the big homes and gardens, wonderful nature...I imagine setting up in northern NSW when we get back, so we need to be financially set up to manage that.
..phew...gee Al is having a lovely long sleep...sorry for the long posts...You can tell I am supposed to be studying teehee

Kate - check out this very interesting and reassuring information I have found on MMR vaccine - seems that there IS a lot of scaremongering going on ----- here'tis
-
not at all Kate, like I said, I had exactly the same concerns as you, I feel like its better to be informed about everything than bury your head in the sand. Did you click on that link? I found that info very reassuring...
PS thanks for the info about neat links!!

Hi girls, I agree it is a lot of scaremongering, with none of it evidence based, this is just the age where autism is picked up, as kids start walking, socialising etc that the autism is now picked up. The autism no's increasing is more better diagnosis than anything else.
Wow Deb, have you got the uni fee's ready? sounds like Al's developing at great guns!!
The only things Dion does is stuff he's not allowed to,a nd not stuff to brag about LOL, ( like he can pull all the toilet paper off the roll in under 30 seconds, and if the sliding door doesnt have the security door closed, he opens the other door and crawls out the front towards the road before you can sneeze. he can pull alll 50 videos out of the cabinet in less time than I can go to the loo.
I havent started organising Dions bday and its killing me, LOL sooo much to do, but I am on leave for 2 weeks now ( mind you so are the big girls as of this arvo) so holiday activities begin, I dont enjoy these holidays as much, as its too cold and wet to do the "free" go for bike rides, go to the park etc

OMG you girls can talk! I turn my back for a minute and there's post after post after post. Interesting discussion on MMR, although yes I think it's a little scaremongering too. Blake will be getting his as soon as I get my act together.... picks up phone to call DR. BRB... tried calling Docs but they line's engaged.
Not much energy for personals. Blake had me awake for nearly 4 hours last night, yes 4!!! I'm so tired. I don't really know what he was disturbed about. I think his teeth, maybe a constipation tummy ache? as he didn't poo much yesterday and he normally poos all the time. Anyway, after hand holdign in his cot, patting him, getting into the single bed with him, a bottle, Panadol, Brauers Teething Relief, Bonjela, Nurofen, nappy change, watching the golf together @ 4am, standing and rocking, swinging him - you get the idea - he finally got to sleep. The hardest thing was that if our trip hadn't been delayed I'd have been on the plane last night instead of settling my boy. *sigh* Oh well, I guess we'll both get some sleep today.
Not much other news... to tired to think anyway. It's school holdays starting tonight so we'll have a busy fortnight I guess.
Got through to the docs and Blake's booked in for 3rd July. Yeah I know it's a while away but if I don't book it they are too busy for when I want to get in. IYKWIM. It also gives us 11 days before we fly to Paris for any ill-effects to show up, which I hope they don't.
That's all for today - too tired for personals. have a great weekend everyone, particularly Kate at your Mum & Dads. Get some rest!

Hi girls,
I have been constructing my post in Word for 2 days and will post today or tomorrow.
Vanita, I hope you are on BB as I need some advice. Amy is sick and we need to make an appointment with a doctor. Can you recommend any good doctors in Pakenham??
:help:
Thanks in advance.
Have lots to post, speak to you all soon.
-
Here is the start of my big post....
Ok I am back and it has taken me a day to catch up. I have a new strategy on how to keep up – I print out the posts in Word and write my comments on a piece of paper on my 1 hr train trips to and from work. It is hard to fit in BB while at work but I will give it a good go to keep up. So apologies if this sounds really old as I have gone back to the end of May.
Kate – I agree with the other girls about you being a mod, you would do a great job! Amy has also started screwing up her face and sniffing and looks so funny with all her teeth. Poor little Kelse with her eczema, at least the doctors seem to know what they are doing and the cream has helped. Amy also plays with her ears and DH did some research and found out that it is an acupressure point that relieves pain when teething. What a clever girl clapping her hands! I hope your BP goes up again, just take it easy (if you can). It is tough on you ATM but you can do it.
Hayseed – Yay for pup crawling and you are right about life never being the same again. Isn’t it cute when they wave bye.
Bel – We did the free portrait thing with Pixie Photos. We were happy with the freebie and bought one other for $50 but we were not impressed with the rest and were not paying $400 for them. We won’t go back as it is a bit like a process line of kids and the photos are all the same.
-
Gemma I highly recommend station street clinic, all Dr's good, but we see Mc Cowan, hard to get into, mention its a baby and I recommended you. We should get together and chat about the neighbourhood, and meet each others kids. I think you have my email.
-
Hey Vanita - pmsl @ Dion tearing up the place. I reckon these boys are very thorough with their work! So busy!!
I haven't done any organising for Al's birthday either :help: have no idea what we should do. The weather is so unpredictable so can't really plan anything outdoor, and our place is very small. Besides that, my family will not be here for it anyway...so it is just all a big question mark how to do it.
Al's still got the rash on his back and its a little worse than yesterday, ie its spread more. Any ideas what it could be? Looks like tiny little pimples...
Hi Gemma!! Can't wait to read the rest of your post - should be a good summary of the last few weeks!!
-
Hi all, I was MIA yesterday as I was a bit unwell. I get migraines (as you probably know) and I had the onset of one on Wed, but got on top of it. But didn't sleep a wink on Wed night and Thursday I had to go to Ballarat with mum to get stuff for Pup's party. I was feeling VERY queasy and mum had to drive there and back as I was so yuk and had taken strong migraine drugs (which I don't like to drive on). I actually had to get her to pull over so I could spew. poor Pup could hear me spewing and was crying. Didn't stop until I stood up and let him know I was there (how do they know something is wrong??? Amazing!). Anyway, still feeling $hitty today and nauseous. Don't think it was something I ate, but you duno't know. Might be the tablets too..... Hope I feel better soon.
On the MMR debate, I reckon - and my opnion only - is that there are a lot of behavioural issues that are attributed to autism by drs that don't knw what else to label some kids. But also, as some of you have stated and I agree, the psychological field has improved dramatically in the past 10 - 20yrs and now things like autism are being given their own diagnosis. There was quite a debate raging in the New Scientist magazine a year or so ago about MMR and the links to autism and the research findings suggested that the so called linkages were not linkages at all. From memory, they also discussed the cases prior to the 1970's (when MMR started being given to all kids) of diagnosed autism, that never recived the MMR vaccine. I should try and find the article somewhere.....???
I think it is healthy, rational and sane that we question things like this and I'm very glad we live in a society and period that allows us to do it. I myself, do believe in immunisations. I guess everything has a risk associated to it and as a parent, we have to weigh up the risk of doing something something like vaccinations against the possibility of getting the disease.
I don't think I added ANYTHING to that discussion... LOLOL
-
Hope you feel on top again soon hayseed.
You're right about us being lucky that we live in a society (or societies lol) where we even have an option to debate such issues. In many countries immunisation is an absolute necessity. It is thanks to the fact that we have had such a good programme in place for so long that we can now stand around and say, should we or shouldn't we?
-
hi guys.
Hay, hope you are feeling a lot better soon. I get migraines too and they are shockers! Hope DH gives you a bit of a break for a day or so, so you can get on top of it properly!
Deb, dunno what Al's rash could be, has he eaten anything different? Or has it been hot? Maybe a new washing powder or new clothes or something?
On the MMR debate, I am so uneasy about the fact that I have given the immunisation to Coby already, but I also have to be guided by my GP who says that there's no links. The WHO agrees that there are no concrete links to MMR and autism. But its forever in my mind, I just hope my little vegemite is ok...
Hay, if you find that article, Id be pleased to know what it says....
Coby is pretty good, we're going to another birthday party today, for his friend Maya, she's 1. Weather is looking a bit dodgey, and its an outdoors party, so should be interesting!
Anyway, must fly, I've got 1000 things to do before the party...
-
I had a little suspicion in the back of my mind that the nausea might have been morning sickness.....but no. AF arrived this morning. So I must have just been sick. Bugger.
-
yeah Kate,I'd be very interested to read it....
I'll pm you my details once you have the info....
Poo to the sore throats and colds, hope you are feeling much better soon xxx
Hay, bummer about the sickness just being sickness...fingers crossed for next time
Brooke, thanks for the update on your nanna - Im always wondering how she's going. Poor thing, I hope she gets better soon. Good luck with moving too
-
Hey Bel - how was the party? Did the weather stay clear?
BTW the rash has gone down now, thanks for your thoughts. Still a mystery.
Brooke - sounds pretty rough for your nanna. I'm thinking of her, poor love. Where is the absess forming? In her new hip or is it unrelated to that? Good luck with the packing, things must be absolutely upside down there! Bet you can't wait to move. is Maya helping putting things in (and out) of boxes?
Hi Kate - get well soon
Hayseed - damn damn damn. I was hoping for you.
-
:confetti: HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY MAYA!!:happybirthday:
Hope you have a lovely day. Wish we were there to help celebrate!
-
Happy Birthday Maya, !!!!!!! :happybirthday:
-
Kate – I hope you are feeling okay and your BP doesn’t give you too much trouble. It must have been scary for you to be dizzy especially when you were out with Kelsey. We have been cleaning Amy’s teeth from the first one. We got a bit slack in between the others but now she has 8, we clean them twice a day. We started with a rubber toothbrush and now use one with bristles, both are baby toothbrushes. She knows what to do and opens her mouth and she even brushed her own teeth the other night. We just use water.
Rachel – What a clever boy Blake is! You are doing well if you can pull off the birthday party, there are so many at once! We have settled in to the new house and Amy loves it. She actually has room to crawl around. I guess we won’t be bumping into each other anymore at the local shops but we should keep in touch. Your playgroup sounds like a good group. How’s the packing going for Paris? How’s Viv’s skating going?
Hayseed – Bummer about the nausea and AF arriving. I am so happy for you that your cycle is back to normal. LOL at pup drinking the dregs! I’m glad your arm is okay and that you didn’t need stitches, it sounded nasty though. I can just imagine pup in his ‘work clothes’, how cute! Your story about the poo made me laugh!! It has happened twice to me, first thought is get the baby out as she likes to play with it. Yuk!!!
Brooke – The nurse that examined Maya does sound weird! You must be so excited moving to Melb, congratulations on your house settling. Good luck with finishing the packing. I must have missed where in Melb you are moving to?? Maya is sleeping well and three hours in the afternoon is really good. I am the same as you about milk. DH has slowly been introducing Amy. I was thinking of organic food too. DH made a comment that cows eat grass so they can’t really be harmed by the milk. Amy is eating chopped vegies and meat and now feeds herself from her highchair table. Well done on no wrap! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAYA!!!!
Hey Hayseed, when you hard feed the cows, do you put much stuff in their grain?
Bel – How cute with Coby pointing at the moon! Good luck TTC and I hope it comes naturally for you and your DH. Coby’s cake is fantastic!!!!!!!!!! You are very clever.
Vanita – Thanks so much for the info on the doctor. It was great talking to you on the phone too, we will definitely catch up and maybe we could go to Monkey G’s sometime too. DH took Amy to see Dr McCowan and he said she was fine. She is much better now too. How funny with Dion trying to grab his shadow! It’s interesting what you said about socialising. We definitely need to socialise Amy more and even considered family daycare, although we have now changed our minds on that idea. After seeing her cousins walk she started walking on her own so I have no doubt that she would have started walking earlier if she had been socialised more. We are joining a playgroup in Pakenham that our friend goes to. What Maternal Heath Centre do you go to? I have to transfer Amy for her 12 month check up. Speaking of Coke and babies, my friend’s nieces baby has been given Coke from very early and now has holes in every one of his teeth!!!!!!! They are rotten from drinking Coke constantly. I hope Dion is feeling better.
Deb – I would be sticking to my guns about Al and childcare, try not to let them pressure you. He is your baby and you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, and you know what’s best for him. You could always return to Oz! Congrats on Danish school, you have done very well.

Hey girls just locking this thread.
The new one can be found HERE
