amm - lentils are great aren't they? I have been giving them to Oliver for a few weeks now. I was told to make sure they are rinsed and soaked really well (preferably overnight) and then rinsed well again as they can cause lots of wind if not prepared properly!!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
Raels.
Hi girls,
have been MIA because I'm staying at Mum & Dad's while we get our bathroom done, and have to wait for Dad to get home with his laptop for me to use a computer, and even then I'm too lazy/too knackered to logon. So too much to catch up on in this go, cos I've got to get dinner organised, and bathtime organised, then feeding organised - you all know how it goes.
A little bit of me me me news - finally, after some remedial work with his grandmother, Liam has taken to eating solids. Mum & I do a tandem job - 1 of us holds his hands, the other operates the spoon. It was challenging at first, but now the gagging, raspberry blowing and general dissatisfaction have been replaced by opening mouth and frustration when the spoon doesn't appear quickly enough. I mean seriously, how mental are kids. Anyway, it's very exciting for me, although my workload has now increased cos I'll have to start doing meals for Liam too, but I think I can cope with that :)
Anyway, big hello to all of you, hope everyone is well & has had a good weekend, and that the boys who went on buck's nights behaved themselves.
AHH well i just survived my last bedtime routine on my own.....woo hoo! Weekend went fine really, i just get so bored on my own of a night (nothing sinister meant by that!) and its great to have a break from a pooey nappy from time to time! But Lucas has been an angel, my little cherub i am so proud of him for being so good! I spent the day at mum and dad's yesterday cos the stupid real estate agent organised an open house and didnt even tell us till the day before and it had been in the paper the week before! I was furious cos it meant i had to clean etc etc on my own. Anyway i went to mum and dads so i wouldn't smash the guy when i saw him!! MIL was here for the afternoon today so it was good to have a break from "playing"!!
Jan - I am so glad Liam has become an eating machine...good work!!
AMM - I have been meaning to try lentils but have not got around to it yet...too lazy. What is the name of the Annabel Carmel book? I think Em has it too, is it worth getting? Are you getting married soon?
Well must go eat something other than chocolate, DH bought me two big blocks before he went away and i have had a fair crack at them!!
Mmmm... chocolate....
I usually have some in the fridge and I ran out  Could really use some right now.:(
Em, that's great you have an insider at childcare. I used to hate when that happened and I had to stop putting kids in the cupboard...taking them out to the toy shed instead was such an effort. ;) Are you feeling better?
Megan, how did DH hold up? I was just remembering Dan's buck's night - he came home at 12 and went to bed and I stayed up with his best mate and his gf and we all got drunk together LOL It's funny because I'm not a drinker and he is! (well he used to be - much more settled now) I know what you mean about nightime boredom - that's why I'm on here so much and spend too much on ebay LOL
Raels, we went to the zoo on the way to our honeymoon. I definitely recommend hanging out at the otter enclosure - I could've watched those guys for hours. We're going on a three night trip to Iluka (about 3 hours from us) just after easter. I'm excited to get away, but it's our first time away with Autie and I'm dreading both the car trip and the sleeping situation. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as i'm imagining. Clever little Olli saying 'dad'! Autie's not even close -still on the monkey noises.
Jess, how are you and Ethan going? sorry to hear you had a hard time. Hope it hasn't happened again but if it does, try re-doing your whole bedtime routine (bath, story, whatever) even if it's two in the morning. Worked for me the one time Autie played up like that.
 on the eating success Jan! Hope he realises the joy of food now LOL
August, I LOVE when Dan cooks me lentils in stock - so much more flavour. I'm worried about the wind thing though, so I haven't given them to Autie. She's got enough to sail a ship as it is! (wind that is)
Well, we're having big eczema problems atm. She scratches herself raw and bloody - so sad for her. The naturapath who got us pregnant (at Sharkey's healing centre) saw her last friday and we have gone back to fruit, veg and meat only. Nothing packaged or tinned, no cereals or dairy. Everything organic ($6 for a cauliflower :o )She has *another* cream to put on (I have a cupboard full) plus good bacteria to take. I am watching what I have too and taking supplements to go through my milk. Plus a host of different things in the bath (oils) :wall: It's driving us both nuts I tell you. The cortisone cream I finally resorted to before going to the naturapath, worked fabulously until i stopped using it. Now it's come out worse than before - never using that stuff again! That's my grumble for today.:boohoo:
On the plus side, she is waving goodbye, following certain instructions and having good day sleeps (touch wood) Yey!
That's all I got.
:hello: everyone!!!
Hope you are all well! We have been busy busy as usual... just a quick post from me tonight.
Has anyone had any problems with their bubs not eating anymore?? Oscar used to love his food and now everytime I try to give him some he spits it back at me. I mean everywhere! He will have 1 teaspoon then blurt the next few out. I have tried giving him finger foods and letting him feed himself but nothing is working?! Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do?! I have tried all different foods, textures etc! I just :dunno:
They can lose appetite when teething or too busy thinking about new skills. Maybe he just has too much on his mind :) Autie has 3 teeth coming through and is eating less lately. Unless he is losing weight or sick, I wouldn't worry as they don't starve themselves. I would just keep offering like nothing is wrong and not make a big deal of it to him. That's just my opinion. Good luck :)
Hey there July Mummies!!
Do you all remember me?? hehe I hope so!! I hope all are keeping well and your bubbies are going up big and strong!
Avaleigh and I are going good, well kinda!! We are in need of some HELP.... I cant get Avaleigh to sleep through the night anymore and its driving me insane! I miss having a full night sleep. She will go down to bed around 8pm, wake up around midnight screaming and standing up in bed, if I put her down, she will scream some more so the easiest thing to do is give her a feed. She will then wake up between 4am and 6am and I can sometimes give her her dummy and she settles or I need to feed her. I have tried a few things to get her to sleep, like - a bottle as well as both breasts for the last feed. I am mixing breastmilk with formula and she will have between 60 - 100 mls as well as boobs, but its not working! I've only tried this for the last week.. my mum suggests to put a teaspoon or less of rice cereal in to make it thicker..... has anyone got any suggests??!!
HI Everyone,
Trust it to be busy when I am really tired LOL! I willl come back and do personals tomorow.
Have had a crap day.
Firstly, this morning I was at my mums old house doing some gardening when about ahundred little black insects flew at my face. I got stung by one on my nose, I ran inside and called DH right away in a panic cause I didn't know what it was that had bitten me. It turns out it was a wasp! I am lucky it was only one bite. DH came racing over- he was looking after KAetlyn, so jumped in the car and zoomed over. He rang the hospital to see what to do- they dont give advice over the phone, but said ring poisons info line, so he rang them, and they said all is good, just ice it, take some antihistamines, and if there is any signs of an allergic reaction go to hosp. DH also said that I was BF is it okay to continue, the nice man on the other end said yes as the venom will not go into the mammery glands. Phew. Then about 2 minutes later, he called back (obviously they keep the phone number on record) and said that I could only take claratyne while breastfeeding. And was 'sorry that he forgot to mention it the first time' Which we thought was very nice of him.
All is good though, it just feels like someone has whacked me in the nose all day, and the tip is red. It was swollen before but seems to have gone down.
I was in such a frantic before Dh arrived, bacause my father was allergic to wasp stings. If anyone else has had one before, they bloody kill!!!
Then I was cooking dinner for all DH's family tonight, and spilt some oil on the floor (we have timber floor boards) and it went every where. So in the middle of cooking dinner for 9 people I had to clean up the oil, which let me tell you, is not easy- makes the floor very slippery!
Then not long ago, DH was in bed trying to sleep and there was this loudest bang. I raced into the room, and he was freaking out. He thought someone had done a 'drive by' as a car went past at the same time as the bang.
It turns out a battery exploded in his 'sports ears' (its like a little walkman that you get ref comments on at footy games). Before that, we were trying to figure what had happened, there was some little black bits on the floor, so I started picking them up. We realised what had happened, the battery had exlopeded, putting battery shards and bits of plastic from the packaging everywhere and then I felt my hand burning. Turns out I had battery acid on it:doh: so I started pannicing, and there was battery acid all oer our bed room, so I have just finished cleaning that up, and my hand is still stinging, so going to search the net to see what else I can do to stop the burning.
Its been a bad day so will come back tomorrow for personals!
Wow what an eventful day!
Hi ladies:) (i thought some colour would be nice!)
Well im up due to DH snoring!! OMG it sounds like there is a bear in hibernation in my room:( I had to get up as it was starting to look like the only way to shut him up was with a pillow over his face!! Lol not really, but tempted!
Veronica- HI! Its great to hear from you. Im sure we have all missed your posts. Sorry to hear that your having sleeping issues with avaleigh, im having the same with Ethan too! How are you all?
Sara- Oh hun what a horrible day! Hows your nose? and Your hand? Hope you slept well and have a better day today.
Dani- Yep Ethan is the same with his food at the moment to, like sacha said i just keep trying and make sure he has enough water/milk. Im sure they will soon realise what they are missing out on and eat up again.
Sacha- mmm Chocolate! I had a yummy magnum ego tonight and thought yeah that will kill the craving but nope i want MORE lol! Thanks for the advice re redoing the routine over and trying to put him in bed again, i didnt think of that:doh: Poor Autie with the eczema:( Hope its sorted again soon, must be so frustrating for her.
Megan- Yay for your DH being back! Now you get a nappy break lol I went to the shop yesterday and when i got back DH handed ethan to me and said he missed me...yeah right he had done a pooh!!
Jan- So happy for you that liam is finally liking his solids, good little man. I bet thats taken some stress of your shoulders.
AMM- Glad the baby shower went well. I have not done lentils yet, i forgot about them might have to try them, ethans being a bit fussy at the moment so if he enjoys it it will be great.
Jas- It is scary how quickly they are growing up isn't it! How are you and Noah?
Thats it for personals now, hi to everyone else.
Well im dreading today as i have to have a papsmear:doh: Its never really worried me before but i have kept putting it off since having ethan! Other than that i dont think i have any thing else planned oh except washing! DH needs all his stuff washed as he goes back to work tomorrow.
Okay bye for now ladies im going to see if this bear is quiet yet:D
hey Jess, yes the colour is fab! You sound alot happier which is great. Sorry I dont have any tips for the snoring. DF snores only sometimes and I put my hand over his face which shuts him up. lol. :cryinglaugh:
Oh Sara you poor thing thats alot of things to happen to you in just one day! Hope you are feeling ok today.
Jas, nice to hear from you and Noah, my DS will be 8 months this weekend too.
Veronica, nice to hear from you and Avaleigh too, but sorry to hear she has been waking up. I'm sure you have tried a dream feed? Or maybe she has wind pain as you said she wakes up screaming? I hope things settling down again for you soon.
Dani, I copied and posted something a little while back about why bubs can go off their food. But I think Sacha has pretty much covered it in her post.
Raels, Yes you definatley have to rince the lentils but I didnt know its to help elimanate wind? I made red lentils which you need not soak over night. I used half a cup of lentils bought to the boil in two cups of the stock I made, then simmered them for about 30 mintues and they were perfect. It made one tray worth for freezing and enough for 2x dinners in the fridge. I'm going to make up another lot today while I have the chance since they went down well.
Sacha, a trip to Iluka sounds great. We had our first holiday away after xmas and it was great. Lucas slept in his portacot and was fine, I set it up and let him play/snooze in there for the week before so it was not new to him when we were away. LOL at Autie having enough wind to sail a ship
Jan, good luck with the solids I hope it continues to go well for you!
Megan, Yes the book is the same one and its called the Baby & Toddler Meal Planner. I found it at a second hand bookshop when I was pg and I think it would be worth buying. She focasses alot on flavour and variety. As for the wedding it will be next year (have not set a date) we have already changed plans alot so I'm actually over it already!! I just want to say 'I do' without any fuss which is hard when everyone has an opinion. :wall: We have only been engaged for less than 6 months so I've decided to just enjoy the moment for awhile and concentrate on saving for the time being.
My DF is away tomorrow night, or so he reminded me this morning. It's a pain because he has to travel 6 hours and be away overnight just for a meeting. Why they dont do it via satalite and save everyone the trouble I do not know. I know I should not complain too much though as I know other mums here go without their DH for much longer.
The surf must be big today, I can here it from here might be worth going to a walk to check it out later.
Have a great day everyone!
amm - oh I hear you on the whole wedding thing. I just want to elope but I can just imagine how some people will react!
Jess - thanks, you reminded me I need to go for a pap smear soon! Horrid things that they are...but it's got to be done!
Sara - !!!!!! What a day you had!!! Hope you're ok this morning!
Veronica - sorry to hear that Avaleigh isn't sleeping too well but it is quite normal for her to be waking like this. She is still quite young and it could be for a number of reasons. Could she be getting cold during the night? I don't know how you feel about co-sleeping but maybe you could bring her into your bed, maybe not after the midnight waking, but the 4am one? Regarding the rice cereal, in my opinion putting it into a bottle is not necessary and I doubt it will help her sleep. It could have the total opposite effect and worse still give her a nasty pain in the stomach or make her constipated. Does she have any teeth yet? Could be this. Hope it all settles down soon for you!
Sacha - poor Autumn and her eczema. Hope it all settles soon with the new diet. How frustrating for you though! I love Iluka, have been a few times with my DF. It is a beautiful little town.
Ooops gotta go, screaming baby. BBL
Raels. xo
Lucas just slept for 2 and a half hours! AMAZING! :D He hasn't done that for about 6 months! I think he was apologising for the hour he had me up between 9.30 and 10.30pm before DH got home!! Cheeky monkey!
BBL...now he needs food!!
Hi
Lach has only slept through the night ONCE in his whole life... I don't really think babies are meant to sleep through the night... they are meant to give their parents greif!!
not alot happening here... except for the heat. It's driving me and Lach mad! The poor bloke.
Sacha - so sorry to hear u are having problems with eczema. Lach was having problems, and the alpha kerri lotion has cleared it up, as well as keeping him really cool, as the heat is what causes his. I hope you can find an answer. Poor little girl.
anyways, i'm off to chill out, lie on the couch with the air con on flat out and watch some scrubs DVDs.
Have a cool day everyone:)
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I havent tried a dream feed but was think of maybe putting one in before I go to sleep cause I am in bed by 10pm and then I am getting waken aorund midnight. Last night was good, only one wake at midnight and then she slept through to 7.30am. Maybe she does have wind pains cause last night she burped (and in the process spewed on my bed!!) and only woke up once. I am find it hard to burp her these days tho... I will try and make an extra effort. I am not too fussed about the midnight feeds cause then atleast I know that I am still keeping my milk supply up!
Apart from the waking, Avaleigh is going really well. I love her soo much!! She is crawling around everywhere, real fast too! Pulls herself up on everything (can be annoying at times), getting into everything (she especially loves the blue light on the computer!). We have all got bets on to when she will be walking. Jason and I first said 8 months but I have now changed it to 10 months and my mum is saying 11 1/2 months. LOL It would be real funny if she doesnt start to walk until after 1 year!! No teeth here yet, which I am thankful for cause I am scared of biting while breastfeeding.
I am going really good too!! We had a major computer crash 4 weeks ago but luckily all my data and photos were saved and computer fixed. Now I am backing everything up, somethng I should have done in the first place.... Been busy decorating my house, well only really painted some walls, waiting for money to start buying stuff... Ummm what else... OH I am now 9kgs below my pre-pg weight, which I am absolutely stoked about! Now I just got to buy some new clothes.. haha but have no money!! ahhh darn interest rates. So yeh, thats how I am!!
So what is everyone feeding their lil bubba's these days and are you mashing or have puree food? I need some suggestions because I think Avaleigh is getting a little sick and tired of what I have for her!! I have a freezer full of carrot, pumpkin, potato, sweet potato... I think thats all... and how is everyone doing meat? I have just bought some stuff from the shops that has meat in it but would like to make my own stuff..
anyway, better go. Lunch time here for both of us!
Wow! Lots to catch up on. We had a slow patch for a while there! I have read all the replies but sorry if I miss anyone because i am on hold with the phone company and it is distracting!
First of all - Sara - you poor thing! Hope you are ok. I have been stung by a wasp and it is really painfully. Never been burned by battery acid though.. Have you broken any mirrors lately, walked under ladders or run over black cats?? Hopefully your run of bad luck will be broken!
I really can't think to do personals - "your call is important to us blah blah blah' - so i'll just do a random update! We are having a bit of trouble with eating and drinking at the moment too. MCHN thinks its his teeth - one thru and more on the way - so not to be too concerned, but it is hard when you are worried they will dehydrate! On Saturday T drank 60mls for the whole entire day and wouldn't eat any of his food. I managed to get him to drink water out of my water bottle and someone at the cricket gave him a ham, cheese and lettuce sandwich which he thought was fab! Things were normal on Sunday, now today he is refusing it all again. Soooo frustrating!
DH had his cricket grand final over the weekend - they won and he is now MIA.. likely location the pub. You would of thought they won Olympic gold from the way they were carrying on. He got home at 5am this morning - got into bed turned on the telly and ate a whole block of cheese. What is it about men when they win sports that they need to drink? Is it to block out the memories? They are so silly sometimes.
It is super super hot here today - Nicky I am feeling your pain. Bring on the cool change tomorrow! Have any of you Victorian girls (and not sure which other states have it) thought about Daylight savings finishing yet? I did post a question in the baby section but all the replies i got were just from people telling me when daylight savings actually finished, so that was no help .
Easter.. we are having a weekend at my sisters with all my other sisters, so really looking forward to it. Can't believe this time last year i was pregnant and eating like 5 Darrell Lea easter eggs a day. The Thurday night DH has his cricket presentation - sorry I can't go, have to look after Tom ;) - so Good Friday will be spent in peace watching the Children's hospital appeal.
Just scrolling down thru posts.. call still important to them..
Sacha - I'm not feeling that much better so went today to get blood tests etc done. Dr thinks it is a virus that is just hanging around. The lady at the pathology asked how many weeks pregnant I thought i was, so they must be testing for that. I was like "I'm not!!". Have done home pg tests and at the dr's as well.
Hi Veronica - good to hear from you. Love your ticker pic. In regards to meat - i haven't really tried it because I always think Tom will be having a no-food day when I offer it to him! The MCHN suggested giving him a little piece of steak or chicken to suck on to get the taste for it.
Oh - better go. Call answered finally!!!
Hi Veronica, nice to hear you are all well. Can't really help with the sleeping, but if it makes you feel better, I have not had a full night since 21/2 months old and atm am waking 2 hourly on a regular basis. Good luck :) Food wise, Autie has mash unless it has to be pureed, but usually eats most things in chunks on her own. I do poach chicken, beef and lamb for her and keep some cut up fine to mix with veg, and some in chunks for chewing on. She has heaps of different veg (all those you mentioned plus: peas, broccoli, cauliflower, avocado, zucchini, spinach, squash, onion) She also has fruit but it has to be mixed in veg as she's not so keen on it. HTH
Sara you really had a shocker! Did you manage to find a cure for your acid burn? Aloe vera helps most burns I think.
LOL Jess your DH sounds like mine in the snoring department! When he's home, Autie and I never sleep well. Sometimes I'm secretly glad when he falls asleep on the couch and doesn't come in until early morning  Was your papsmear as bad as you thought it would be? I got mine done at my 6wk checkup so none for two years - yey!
Oh August I'm jealous of you hearing the surf from your house! I love that sound - a close second to hard rain on the roof. It's a good idea to get her used to her portacot - I have bought it into our room and she will start with daytime naps tomorrow.
Megan, nice on the nap time - maybe you'll get more...
Nicky, Scrubs cracks me up everytime. I haven't tried alpha kerri - do you know the ingredients? I'm trying to stay away from petroleum bases and preservatives.
Em, don't you just love being put on hold and forced to listen to their advertising or bad music? Excellent way to spend your time. I always find myself swearing and talking at the recorded message each time ti comes on, and then wondering if anybody is actually listening and laughing at me LOL Maybe all the tests are wrong, btw...;) LOL feel better soon.
Oh, I just thought re: the meat. If you make up a soup with really small cubes of beef and let it slow cook, then freeze it in cubes you can add it to mashed veg and it makes the meat really soft and adds extra flavour to the veg.
Has anyone got any good ideas for snack foods that don't make a sloppy mess when you can only have fruit, veg or meat? Like for in the stroller or car? I'm really missing those vegemite sandwiches I can tell you.
Wishing a restful night for all of us
Sacha, cruskits make a great snack. I normally cut them into thirds, but they tend to be rather messy, especially with a scraping of vegemite, but they seem to love them.
Another good one, is bread sticks. Again I cut them into thirds and cut the crusts off. I then roll them, so I have 3 stick her slice. We eat Soy and Linseed bread and it works wonders, and not really all the messy. Both my kids loved them. I also give a arrowroot from time to time, but again messy.
