Hi everyone
Hope you are all doing well. Diana is currently sleeping, so I am using this time to get on and post. I can read the threads while holding her, but typing with one hand is just no fun, so taking advantage of having two free hands now...
Diana is doing really well. She is seven weeks old yesterday and at her 6 week weigh-in she weighed 3950g. She is about 54cm long (hard to measure as she is so squirmy lol). She is still in 0000 clothes, but I am thinking it will be time for the 000s soon. I am looking forward to that as there seems to be a better range of bigger baby clothes. Although I am really enjoying her now that she is still tiny. She is so cute. I posted some new pictures up recently. :)
In terms of feeding, I usually give her one breast, change her nappy and put her on the potty, then offer her the other breast. At the next feed I start with that breast, although recently I have bee kind of lazy and often start her on the left breast for consecutive feeds as she seems to prefer that one . Probably not good, eh?
Diana is getting really good at weeing into the potty, but not so much luck on the poo yet. Only once did she actually go into the potty. Usually her nappy is already full of poo by he time I take it off. (LOL - what a topic of conversation. :p)
Hugs to all you ladies whose babies have wind problems. Diana thankfully hasn't had much wind, but yesterday I think she got it because she was constantly crying and squirming. She seemed to want to feed but would just bring everything back up :(. It was so hard seeing her so uncomfortable and not being able to help. I feel for all of you who get this on a regular basis. Hugs.
Flossie - good on you for continuing to extract breast milk. Are you using a manual or electric pump? I bought a manual pump off ebay for $31 and it is working really well for me. I extract every day as I work part time and I let DF do most of the night feeds. If you extract often maybe consider buying a pump. Mine was a really good purchase :).
Jan - yes I did kind of miss being pregnant when Diana was first born (I am over it now). It's ironic as I didn't really enjoy being pregnant at all and was hoping that Diana would come early, but when she did, I felt kind of cheated that I didn't get those last few weeks of pregnancy :(. Ironically, I really liked shopping for clothes when I was pregnant. I felt so feminine, and if something didn't fit properly it didn't annoy me the way it usually does. Now that I am breastfeeding finding clothes that are comfortable, practical and stylish is a completely new challenge...
Rebecca - hope your bp goes down. Glad you are enjoying Xavier.
Kristy - I have already had the projectile poo experience with Diana twice. The first time she sprayed on a blanket, which fortunately was already yellow, so the stain doesn't show up too much. The second time she got my pyjamas, which I had to ut on to soak straight away. Today she managed to wee on my hand as I was holding her over the potty. Not sure how she managed that..
Star - hope your DH gets better soon. Hugs. Good to hear that Amelie is doing so well.
Tracey - sorry to hear that Zyon having wind issues. Hugs. Hope he gets better soon and that you have a better night tonight.
Fran - good luck. Hope your little girl comes out soon!
Anyone that has more than one child is a legend in my books!!! I am finding one newborn hard enough work, and thats with DH at home all the time at the moment. I am dreading him going back to work, esp as Kaetlyn is so erratic with her sleep and feeding.
Last night she had a feed at 1.30am then she slept through till 9 when I had to wake her for a feed. I spoke to the community nurse today about her sleeping so long, and she said that I should be waking her every 4-5 hours of she hasnt woken for a feed. Does anyone do this, or do they let them sleep throughout the night?
She has put on a nother 200gm in the last week which is good.
Also the poor little darling has developed conjuctivitis. I feel so sorry for her- she has a rash on her face, which is apparently normal, and now a red puffy eye :( We will go to the doctors tomorrow if it is not better.
Anyhows, just popped in to see if fran was around. Fingers crossed for her!!!!
I was told the best thing for mucky eyes is breast milk, works well for us on everything. Jack was born with a rash called toxyp......... somethong or rather. I was told just to put breast milk on it everytime I feed, snd the places I had cleared up in a couple of days. I just drip iy into their eyes after a feed if need be, let it sit for a few seconds then wipe. This is of course if your still B/F.
Jack is still good. He is now into 000 clothes, I can't believe how big he is getting.
Dopes anyone know how long after drinking you have to wait to B/F? We have a ****tail party to go to at the end of the month and I want to be able to have a few drinks, not planning to get smashed or anything.
I hop no news is good news Fran:pray: Have you heard from her yet Veronica?
Hi ladies,
Wow this is my first post in here!! I can only be quick though as Ethan is really unsettled and wants feeding again, but he is sucking very hard on his dummy atm, lol.
Just wanted to let you know im still around. Hopefully i will get some more time tonight to post better. Things have been pretty hectic!
Fran is probably already holding her baby girl by now but i just wanted to say, Goodluck fran, hope it all goes well and cant wait to hear your news!!
okay then must go BBL:)
I just checked out the chat room and Fran wasnt there, so hopefully.....
Mel, I read somewhere that the next 24 hours you shouldnt give bub your milk after drinkning. Just express it and throw it out, but you will need to obviously still feed him lol.
Thanks foer the tip on the eye, i will do it now, am about to feed her.
:pray::pray::pray::pray:'ing for you FRAN:D
hey girls, no news from fran yet - hopefully she is at hospital and in full on labour!
Just dropping back in to see if there is any news on Fran - but alas there isnt which is a good sign I think. Cant wait to hear the news!!
Still no news Veronica? Oooo I can't wait either to hear her news.
Good news ladies, I don't think I had told you but we bought a new house, finally about 12 months after we started to look. Funny enough its about 100m up the road. A big 5 bedroom qld'er. Can't wait to move in (which unfortunately won't be until end of october:cry:) so the kids will have a back yard to play in as well as room to move inside too. Will be a huge difference from our little 2 bed we are in now.
Now we just have the joys of open houses for our place, which is going to test me I think. Our first one is on Saturday, so I have mum taking Charlize on friday for the night so I can try get the house in fine form, in between feeding. Hopefully it will sell this weekend how nice would that be
Blueflower, I forgot to mention if your bubba only has the conjuctivitis in one eye, be careful not to touch the other when doing the Breat milk thing, you probably knew this, I just wanted to tell you just in case. Also about her feeding. If it were me, I would let her sleep as long as she wants over night and just wake her every 2-3 hours during the day for a feed. As long as she gets around 8 B/Feeds in a day, she will be right. Letting her sleep without waking her overnight I would think would be creating good sleeping habits for night time, you don't want her to get used to waking at night:redface:. But this just me, I don't want to tell you something that contradicts what a health nurse says.
Jack slept for 7 hours straight last night. I had 6 hours straight:dance: But unfortunately he didn't settle for 2 hours after that, but by this time Charlize was well and truely awake, so wasn't too bad.
Thinking of you Fran, can't wait to hear news.
Great News Everyone!!
:happyforyou:

:happyforyou:
Congratulations Fran and David on the arrival of your daughter Alessia!! Enjoy your little family :)
Hi all,
Yeah Fran, Congrats on the birth of Alessia, I can't wait to hear more
It is a little sad that the july belly buddies has been closed. It's kind of right up there with realising that there is nothing in your belly anymore lol. I keep having to remind my self I have a real little person in the next room asleep.
Nicki, yeah I think she had a hyphenated name. Maybe that's why we both got such great cuddle time if we both had her. She said she had 2 boys herself, lol though she told me to hold her hand at one point I hope I didn't hurt her.
Mel, I heard the same thing about alcohol. Apparently you need to express enough in advance to feed after you have drunk, and continue to express afterwards and chuck it. That was from our baby classes, 'cause the midwife had accidentally feed one of her children after drinking once, and her bubs ended up drunk. She was horrified with herself, but tells all the classes about her experience because it is so important.
Tracey, I'm glad you have said that you know there is an end in sight to this crazy time, You are giving me hope. I've been lucky enough to have DH here for 2 weeks, and then my mum is taking 2 weeks off too, so I will get 4 weeks of help with the crazy's. Hopefully he will start to settle down by then.
I agree with Sara, any of you with one child already let alone 2, 3 or 4, all legends, I bow down towards you!! You are amazing!!
It's great to hear how everyone is going.
Xavier isn't too bad, although he is snotting milk all over me and him everytime he feeds. He is also having trouble keeping it down now, but I don't think it's wind. He keeps having really mucousy/milky sneezes. So the Dom nurse told me to keep an eye in the colour of the sneezes and his temp etc incase he is getting a cold. It also means he is a little more restless. At least he still sleeps, even if it is on my knee on the couch while my head flopps back and I sleep sitting up.
Well on the bonus side the milk is going through his sinuses and cleaning them out :D
YAY Fran!!! It is the end of an era, isn't it!! Our last July baby.... great news on the birth of Alessia!
We had a fantastic night last night! Amelie slept from 11 until 5 this morning - absolute heaven! Very proud of my little girl. Looking forward to seeing if we can have a repeat performance tonight.
Will catch up with you all again soon!
LOL at Fran- they closed the july thread, and alas, your princess made her grand entrance that night (they should have closed the thread earlier for you fran)!!!!
Congratulations on the birth of Alessia, Fran!!!!
I am of to catch a few ZZZ. missed out on some last night and got up early for feeds this morning and Kaetlyn wouldnt settle afterwoods. She is finally asleep now though.
Hugs to all.
Hey everyone
Hope all is doing well.
We are OK! Avaleigh is still really grizzly and grunty with her colic. The magic juice isnt working like I hoped it would. We are getting more burps out of her but she stil has more in her that she cant get out!! So we have the occassional screaming cry but other than that, Avaleigh is a really happy baby and is letting me sleep through the night. We go to about 5-6 hrs between the first night feed but in the early hours of the morning we get to about 3 hrs. At the moment she is happily sucking away at her dummy under her little play gym. I've decided to start have play time with her.
Does any one worry that they sleep through their baby's hunger cries at night??? I DO!!! Avaleigh sleeps in the same room as us but I am constantly worried that she is awake and screaming for food but I am sleeping through it. But when I do wake, she is still kinda asleep so maybe I am not. Mum said that if she was hungry and I wasnt waking up then she would definitely let me know!
Well I better go, I think bub has a dirty nappy!
Veronica, I have been worrying about that, 'cause my bubs is in another room, and if Nathan here's him first he is being a good husband and getting up and giving him cuddles and a dumy to keep him happy so I can get a bit extra sleep. I keep telling nathan to wake me up, 'cause xavier is a bit congested I don't think he is getting as much food as he needs in one sitting.
Can I ask for anyone that expresses. If I express for comfort reasons, can anyone see a reason why I can't leave that, so if he's unsettled in the middle of the night, and Nathan doesn't want to wake me he can give him some milk? If that made sense. I found that normal feeding was solving any heavy engorgeing style feeling I was having, but he has been feeding a little irradically in the last 24hrs, and now I think my boobs are getting confused, 'cause he was feeding so well.
rebecca at such an early age, I'd try not to express for feeds as such, but more for comfort, or standing under a hot shower & massaging the engorged areas will help, at such an early stage your boobies will still be all over the place, mine are just settling now, I have expressed a bottle & it's in the freezer but mostly coz both sides were super full & it was squirting while I was feeding, so I fed off 1 & expressed the other!
But it's in the freezer & in a few wks time I can get DH to offer Zyon that while I get some extra sleep!
Babies will feed erratically for the first 6ish wks til they start to get into a bit more a routine...
To whomevers bubs is sleeping alnight, I'd second what Mummy Mel wrote, I'd not be waking bubs but offering more feeds during the day, if nappies are wet & bubs is gaining weight then it's getting what it needs, I'd be loving my sleep!
Well Zyon had his 2wk check up today & gained another 185g & is doing really well...
He seems much happier today too, after sleeping 3.5hourly last night between feeds too.
Been trying to get Passport photo's for him as we fly out in 4-5wks, but everytime I take him he is asleep or the pic's I have are no good, so just took 8 more & hopefully tomorrow I can get back there with him & 1 of these will be OK! hard to get a baby of 2wks to look directly at camera, eyes opened & mouth shut!
They tend to get a milk rash/hormone rash around now til 8wks, also i have heard breastmilk heals almost anything so squirt it on the conjuctivitus eye & the red rash, sorry I forgot whom asked!!!
Hope your all well ..
OOOH Congrat's Fran on your beautiful princess's arrival!!!!
ETA: Veronica,
i dont think Mummy's instincts let us sleep through oyr babies cries, I have had both girls in their own rooms from day 1, Zy is in our room, as indah wont get outta the cot & I have always heard the girls!!!
I'm sure your not sleeping while she cries!!!
Thanks Tracey for the info.
I dribbled some breast milk on Kaetlyns eye (its not that easy LOL) last night and it is much better today, still a bit gunky, but better than last night.
It was weird. She was alseep and when she woke up her eye was all pussy.
Will do abit again tonight and see tomorrow.
Am feeding Kaetlyn more regularly throughout the day so that if she does sleep through, it will be okay and she is getting her min 6 feeds a day. She has been having mamoth feedings at the moment and is sucking for 1 hour, and that is with me taking her of the BBies!
Rebecca, if you left milk for Nathan to feed, you would still have the same problem of full breasts, cause Xavier would not be getting the milk from you, and youd need to express anyway. IFYKWIM.
At the hosi, I was told to express about 20mls before a feed cause my BB were so full poor little Kaetlyn couldnt latch on. The Midwife then said dont express until 6 weeks when bub have set theor own feeding routine.
V-I think that mothers intuition would kick in. I woke in the middle of the night the other day when Kaetlyn had been sick in her cot, and I was in a really deep sleep. I also seem to just wake up as she is stirring for a feed, so am pretty sure that you would hear her if she was hungry!!!
Aaron is in the lounge room having playtime with Kaetlyn. She rolled over just before when we gave her tummy time, and we both saw it. Not sure if she ment to roll over, but we were both there to see it, so will class it as her rolling over for the first time just for arguments sake!!!
Best be off and start dinner seen as Aaron is entertaining Kaetlyn.
