Babies Born June 16th - 30th 2008

This weekend can not end soon enough as far as I am concerned! Coop reacted really badly to his immunisation and ended up with a temp of 39.1 late Friday night. He had a mild temp all afternoon, wasn't drinking and basically just wasn't himself so we did a spot of co-sleeping just so I could be close by and try soothe him as he was super restless. By half past nine he was burning up, so we jumped in the car and headed to the hopsital. They couldn't do much as I had only recently given him a dose of panadol but I think it was more of case of DP not being home and with no one to turn to for support the hopsital seemed like the best option. It was horrible nursing him, feeling his lil head burning against my chest and looking into his eyes, they were so vaccant. He had mild temps on and off until this afternoon. Needless to say I am already dreading his 6 month shots, ugh! So off to wash n sterilise bottles - there is something to be said for boobs and hopefully get some sleep! TTFN

Poor little Cooper. It's awful, getting the immunisations done. Josie is getting her next lot on Wednesday, I'm really dreading it..

Emma I think I was hit for six as I wasn't expecting a reaction. Having said that I have spoken to several mums over the weekend and they have all said that with age their bubs reacted worse with each lot of shots. Not something I really wanted to hear but worth knowing I suppose. He seems to be fine now, slept through and took a bottle this morning. Good luck with Josie on Wednesday! Oh and :birthday2: hope you had a fab time at dinner!

Livyloosmum (sorry forgotten your name) good to hear that your mastitis has cleared up. It's down right horrible and oh so painful, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

Danielle, how did you go with increasing your supply? Any luck with the job interviews?

Ainsley sounds like some friend you got there! She is obviously unable to maintain friendships with her exs and it does sound as though she is atad jealous.

Satya - rofl about the cream, doddle, giggle incident! Coop has had a couple of good plays with his! hehehe Boys with their inbuilt toys hey, who needs fisherprice LOL Coop gets the giggles on quiet often, espeically when our dog decides to show off in front of him, Jet is partial to chasing his tail and that cracks Cooper up. As for toys someone gave him a piano that either plays for 10min by itself or he can (at this point in time) kick his feet to activate it (tied to the end of his cot) each time he kicks it plays a random bit of music and this bird looking thing says "helllooo baby" or "peekaboo baby". At first I thought he would never be into it and that they should have saved their money but he loves it, goes hell for leather and gets this crazy miniture Beethoven look in his eyes.

I have decided not to offer Coop any solids just yet, he still doesn't drink all that much and yet is still putting on an average of 300g per week and getting sooo long. How he is getting to be so big I quite don't understand cause like I said, he doesn't drink much. Somedays he is lucky to 600ml and half of that ends up dribbling out of his mouth! We have tried so many different brands of bottles (quiet expensive) and that hasn't seemed to make a difference. The CHN has referred us to a speech path just to make sure there is nothing wrong with his tounge or his sucking action, she seemed to think it was fine but just to make sure.

Well this is a record amount of typing in one session for me.. YAHOO! Hope everyone else is fine and dandy. Have a great week mummies! :)

Well it doesn't just rain it f***ing pours... is that the saying?? After my post this morning I ducked into town to fuel my car and grab a few things from the supermarket and on my way home ended up in a three car accident - my fault :wall: We were stopped at a set of traffic lights (there are only two in town), the light turned green and I excelerated faster than the other two cars in front of me causing a domino effect... hit the car in front of me and it nudged the car in front of it. I honestly don't know why I did it, I obviously wasn't concentrating and having the weekend I have had I was atad deprived of sleep. No one was seriously hurt thankgod but we were all carted to the hospital by ambulance. Three cases of wipelash for the three drivers and one scared, tired, hungry, wet nappied baby! I only expected to be in town for 20 minutes at the most so didn't take Coop's nappy bag - lesson learnt. There was little damage done to my car and the car in front but the vehicle I hit is in a pretty bad way. I'm seriously considering moving to the hopsital permanently.. Oh and to make matters worse when I finally got a hold of DP to tell him what had happened, he laughed and said only I could cause a three car accident from a stationary postition! GRRR A**HOLE!!!!!!! Oh please oh please let tomorrow be a better day!

Tan: I hope things start looking better soon. As long as everyone is ok thats the main thing!!! Sounds like you had one terrible day. I know how you feel last Tuesday was such a BAD day.

Poor Coops, hopefully by now he is back to his old self and good luck for Josies shots!! By the way I know what you mean about bbs looking great greow... flaunt em while you have em. Dont feel bad about going onto formula, you have done so well to get this far. I dont think I will be far behind you on giving TED-i (Taylor Elise Duckworth initials) formula.

Sheree: How is your Mastitis?? Is Riley feeding better now??

I think myself very lucky for not having it (touch wood) although I did leave hospital with VERY sore bruised blistered and bleeding nipples, that was bad enough.
Livy: Glad to hear yours has cleared up so quickly, must be a relief. Thanks for the little words of encouragement. I think sometimes all mums neeed to hear it, especially when they dont think they have done something right they need to be reminded that they have done and are doing their best.

Well Im taking Taylor for her shots on Monday and like all of you Im dreading it. I considered taking her on Tuesday so that come Wednesday she will be in Childcare, but I couldnt do that, I just want to lay with her and be close while she isnt feeling so good. Ill also be changing my pill fingers crossed Ill actually find one that works with me.

We are seeing the MCHN tomorrow for our 4 month check and weigh in. YAY

I had such a terrible day last Tuesday. I broke my phone and had to pay $300 for a new one, DP was angry at me and I copped it all morning, the house was a pig sty, I forgot a job interview, and to top everything off some guy decided to take his road rage out on us (I have no idea why we did nothing to provoke it) followed us home (we kept circling the streets though) then kept trying to cut us off with a baby in the car then when dave stopped he ran over to our car with a bottle in hand broke it then started banging on the windows with me crying on the phone to the police. While he was out of the car Dave took off down our street and up our driveway because it goes behind our house so he couldnt see it as he went past. Ive had some scarey things happen but I dont think I've ever been this scared before and the cops finally called at midnight...... grrrrrr.

I have been thinking about the future lately and about buying a house but it was pointed out to me by my lovely partner that Im never going to amount to anything thats going to earn much. Its quite upsetting to think about. He is right, I should never have dropped out of uni. The best I can try and do is be a property manager because thats what I have worked in for the last 5 years (although mostly the accounts admin side but enough that I could run my own business in it) but with him doing it as well we would both end up working late and with a baby we cant and I guess he comes first. I wanted to be a Police Officer but he agrees again that its not really a great field to move into with a child around.............. Im so confused as to what to do right now. I really want to work as a property manager, I want to earn better money then I am but Im not sure how we are goin to work it out that one of us is always home at night to take care of taylor. I would stay hoime with her for the next 5 years if we both didnt want so much (house car another child etc etc).

livyloosmum - lucky you not having AF yet. Well done nipping the mastitis in the bud.

Tan - Poor Coop with the temp. Brock will be due for his from Friday onwards so I'm sure that's going to be fun....not. My doc makes us wait in the reception area for 15 minutes in case there's a bad reaction. I hate sitting there watching him, waiting for something awful to happen. That accident sounds awful. Once you have something odd happen without the nappy bag you never leave the house again. I learnt very early about that when we got locked out of the house.

Smudgiesmum - That road rage incident sounded very scary. Don't stress too much about buying a house. I actually wish we didn't own our house cos if we were renting I would be able to afford to stay home, with a mortgage we just can't manage for me not to work. Just because you don't have a degree does not mean you will not amount to anything. Over the years I found that most of the people that I've known who earnt a lot of money never went to uni. They just worked towards what they wanted and ended up with great careers.


Brock is moving around a lot. He can scoot himself up the change table so that his head starts to droop over the edge in just a couple of seconds. I'm mostly changing him on the floor now because of this. I can put him down on his back and a minute later he's on his side or tummy in the opposite direction. He's continuing to be less chucky and his rash under his chin is finally improving. His eczema type rash is improving as well.

I don't think I will try any food until his rash/eczema is under control as it would be hard to tell if he has had a reaction to something. He's not ready yet anyway as he keeps poking his tongue out when I touch his mouth. Only slightly but I read that they are not ready for food if they are doing this. I really want to take him to the baby play at the swimming pool but again I don't want to while his skin is bad. The chlorine might make it worse. My MIL also said it's probably best to avoid it until we've had his hearing checked again at 8 months, but I'm sure he'll end up at the beach over summer.

Congrats to everybody! My little girl was born 16th June 2008 weighing 3.49kgs. I can't believe she is now 4 months old and growing up fast.

We had our 4 month MCHN visit yesterday. It was with a different nurse as mine is on holiday for a month & she told me that Brock is overweight but that they don't worry about it at this age.

I'm so shocked. He has chucked so much milk it's hard to imagine he gets enough in his tummy, let alone be considered overweight. He's 6.45 kgs. At least he's not underweight I guess.

We are trying out thickened formula now as both the supermarket and the chemist didn't have his usual formula & I couldn't be bothered driving to another shopping centre & I was out.

We are off to get his needles in about 1/2 an hour.

My gosh Satya.. if Brock is overweight at 6.45kg than Coop must be obese LOL He is 7.8kgs and is super long 72cm. Im not short (182cm) and DP is considerable taller than me (bout a foot, maybe footnhalf) so he is going to be tall. And despite weighing so much he isn't fat or chubby just solid! How long is Brock? Like Brook I don't think Coop gets all that much in his tummy (did I mention that a few posts ago) and as you said better than being underweight! Hope Brock's needles were as fuss free as needles can be!

Wanted to type more but i have a grizzly bear - needles, teething, car accident doesn't make for a happy chappy.. BBL :)

Hi everyone, man I haven't posted in a while have I!!

Tan sorry to hear about your scary accident, I'm glad to hear that everyone was ok though.

I have been quite busy with work and also at home with some happenings on in my family at the moment, my SIL just broke up with her partner of three years so they are having dramas and I've been trying to help her out with that.

Can't remember whether I mentioned but I put Josie on formula a couple of weeks ago and I am really happy with my decision. She's doing great on the formula and hasn't had as nearly as many tummy aches as she got with breast milk. A lot happier all-round too. I'm glad to have my body back and can't wait to go to the shops and get myself a nice bra again! Sick of these horrid maternity bras. Yes they are comfortable but you just can't wear anything nice with them on!!

Josie's needles went well, she didn't have any reactions to them at all. She grizzled for a while and then was completely over it. She didn't even get drowsy like she did last time! It was back to her normal routine!!

Hope your little ones are doing well. For those who have started their bubbas on food, how long did it take before they started actually eating? Because Josie is still spitting her Farex out. Granted, I haven't been giving it to her regularly...

I havent been on here as my laptop has died so atm im using DF Scotts.

Satya: some nurses are a pain in the bum saying a baby is overweight yet they dont do anything at this age..... well why say anything??? 6.45kg thats not extreme for a boy baby!

I havent had Alistair weighed or have i taken him back to HCN since he was 8 weeks old!! I cant see the point as he is thriving, wet/dirty nappies, sleeping, have wake periods, gurgling & smiling, good head control etc etc and his head doesnt look abnormal etc .

I go to the Gp for his shots which are due again soon which im not looking forward to but oh well they need to be done in my eyes!

I was wrapt the other day an old ex (friend of 20 yrs) came around after 12 mths (left me and scott alone so we could get establisged with out him the old flame hanging around he quoted that to me ) and he met Alli and it was just super. Scott is getting used to us remaining friends but he will have to get used to it !!

Well all did not go to plan (as usual).

Brock had a temp so doc wouldn't do his shots. He had a temp last time too and we have to put them off for a few days. I had so many delays with things during the pregnancy & now it seems the same happens whenever Brock has appointments. It looks like that's just how his life is going to be I think.

Gave him panadol and he's all OK. Have to go back next Wed. We've had two doc trips between Brock and I this week and we will have two again next week (maybe even three if he's not right on Wed). Thank goodness it's a bulk billing clinic.

Ainsley - I haven't been game not to go back to the health nurse. It's like I feel I'll get into trouble if I don't or something. I'll be back at work by the time his next one is due so I don't know if I'll go for it. The woman also told me to get his neck checked by a chiro as he was leaning to one side and she saw in the notes he was doing this last time. Trouble was last time it was to the left, this time it was to the right. So I don't think we will bother.

Tan - Brock is a shorty. Really short. 59.2cms therefore a bit chubby - he doesn't have big rolls or anything, but he's well rounded with a chubby face. His cousin has the big rolls so I guess she must be considered obese (I must ask her mum). Maybe it's in the genes.


Emma - I'm glad formula is working so well for you. It was the best thing I did when I switched from BF & doing top ups to doing FF. The trouble is you don't see a lot of support for it, particularly on BB. I was lucky the lactation consultant I saw at around 5 weeks said that Brock had already had all the goodness he really needed from my milk and that everything else could be provided by formula from then on. It made the decision a lot easier for me.

Hi all

Well I went to see an ABA lady yesterday. I didn't realise until I got there and we started talking that not only is she a volunteer for the ABA, but she is a CHN and Midwife too! When she said that I felt such immense relief. Finally I have help!!!

He was so unsettled yesterday, for my trip to Emerald (an hour away), I just couldn't console him.... I was so glad I left Lachlan with his father at the shop. I just couldn't have done both.

Anyway at my nail appt he put a big performance for his feed that when I got to see the ABA lady - sure enuf he was fine. Well kinda.... He lached on fine and was sucking for a good few minutes and then pulled off and wouldn't go back on. Now this the best he has done in a while (always the way), but..... she could then see how he protested to go back on and applauded me for not forcing him and showed me some different positions too. Now when I sat him up, omg was he upset. She could see if was in a terrible amount of pain and said it has to be reflux.

I think because of how severe Lachlan was, I continually doubt myself that we are there again. Having her confirm that I am not going crazy took a huge amount of pressure off my shoulders. The support she gave me was amazing and right when I was needing it too. She told me I am doing a wonderful job and the way I am handling his feeding is comendable. I have developed the attitude lately that I will not force him to the boob, and she said that is def the way to be atm, as I don't want to scare him off it.

Now she said we should definitely ditch the zantac and go onto Losec.

So I rang my paed today (she is very aquainted with us because of Lachlan's history), and she faxed thru a script to Bundaberg so we can have the suspension sent to us in two parts. Impossible to get it here cold where we live. We use to live in Bundy/Gin gin area, so knew the chemist as he regularly filled our Losec scripts for Lachlan and when we moved here had him do the same (ie: send it in two parts, so that we could mix and then put in the fridge).

The ABA lady suggested that I go off dairy, but the paed said just to give the Losec two weeks and then we will decide if that is the next step or not. Otherwise we won't know what is working or not!

So feeling so much more at ease today, knowing full well I have support around me if I need it.

Just never thought we would be going down this road again, but hopefully it is shortlived. Lachlan wasn't off Reflux meds until 18mths, I am hoping Riley comes good alot sooner then that. Here's hoping.

He had a 1 and 2min feed yesterday that was it and he fought his last feed of the night, but wade nursed him to sleep and put him on and he had an ok feed. Just crazy cause he slept from 9pm till 5am. I just don't get it!!!

Sorry about the me posts lately, just been so overwhelmed with this feeding and it has been getting me down. Hopefully we are now on the right track and I can start chatting to you girls again real soon.

Dean went to work with the keys today and so I was stuck at home all day - which I am so not used to and had already had a fairly at-home week and was supposed to be catching up with my bf for cuppa and stuff. SOOOO disappointed not to get out of the house and really over it by 10pm tonight.

Charli's been fairly demanding today after her needles on Wednesday. She was fine on Wed and a little grizzly yesterday but I always find her bowl issues get worse when she's had them - the rotavirus thingy I think does it. She still has the whole doesn't pooh for a week thing and I was hoping the immunisations would fix her up again like last time but it doesn't seem to have done. Sorry about my grammar - too tired and too late to think straight! lol

Satya - I had a good chuckle and was going to say the same things as Tan about if Brock is overweight then so is Charli. LOL ignore that crap about overweight etc. If the kid is healthy that's the important thing. Charli was 6.5kg at her 4mth check. Nothing was said and I would doubt it would be at this age - they go up and down and all over the place until they are much older. It's only cos he's shorter that she's probably said anything - again that doesn't mean a lot at this age. :) Good luck with that formula! Hope it works well. I took Charli to my chiro (she specialises in paediatric chiropractic care) and it helped with her favouring a side and strengthening her neck that bit more. But it's up the the individual! It will sort itself out anyway I reckon. WHat city do you live in?

Tan - wow you guys are TALL! Models? ;) Cooper sounds like a big boy - must look older than he is? A friend of mine is the same sort of height as me (172cm) and her husband is a giant - gotta be AT LEAST 6'7" and their 5 month old looked 1 !!!!! She is so darned huge it's unbelievable - not out of proportion though!!!!! Born over 10lb. Can't half tell why thought when you see Nathan - he's not only tall he's solid. How are you going after the accident? Have you still got a sore neck or anything?

Serendipity (Emma?) (sorry I am getting everyone's names mixed up and so playing it safe!) - Isn't it just the best feeling getting your boobs back to yourself!? I remember loving being back into my old/new bras when I weened Liv off. And am hanging (literally) out for the next weening.. but Charli is feeding so well I have no idea when that will end! What I do know though is that my boobs will never be the same.. they seem to be just about hitting the ground after this girl. ANyway I digress... that's great that Josie didn't react badly to the jabs - yay! I wonder if Josie is ready for the food if she's not interested in swallowing it? I am totally confused about when to start Charli on it.. she's JUST started to watch us eat now.

Ainsley - what a pain about the laptop! Ours did that earlier in the year and I was so frustrated not being able to keep up with the forum and email etc. Drove me nuts! At least you go to the GP for the shots and the GP will always say if he/she thinks there is any issues. That's nice that your old mate came over. You have mentioned the tension bw Scott and him. I hope things improve so that you all feel comfortable with you keeping in touch. Speaking of wine... do any of you drink while breast feeding and what do you find with that? I haven't done it more than once or twice and to be honest haven't actually read up on it or anything and wondering about it eg. how much and so on.

Sheree - that's really good that you have been confirmed and affirmed! I understand that feeling of just knowing what is going on and now you can just go ahead and deal with that. Hope the Losec works SUPER well and he comes good much earlier than Lachlan did!

We are getting evaporative cooling put in next week - so excited about it (I probably already mentioned it that's how excited lol). We had a very hot time here in the house last summer and I just couldn't go through it again with a baby as well. But this means I need to clean out the 'junk' room which is suposed to be Charli's room and we have been mega slack about getting it done for her - am I a bad parent to have her in our room still??? SHe's in a basinette and really we had Liv out of our room by 10 weeks because she kept us awake with all her noises. This time I am just being slack and because I can feed her in bed it's all much easier. ANyways we are being forced to get the room in order so now is a good a time as any. I think she'll be fine with transferring to the cot. I am actually looking forward to it in some ways and not in others. I never thought I would feel like this about moving her into her own room. With Liv I couldn't get her out quick enough lol.

I dont BF but my sister does and she drinks wine on a regualar occurance she i think expresses and puts it in fridge abd then has her wine or 3 then that night and the following morning she uses the express milk and chucks the first express down the shower drain lol and then she is right. Depending how much she drinks i suppose but i doubt wether she would get drunk as a scunk all the time.

Good ol pump and dump hey Ainsley. I miss BFing (still wish my bbs worked) but it's nice to have the occasional glass of red or 2 with dinner without having to worry about tainting supply. I have my 10yr school reunion in just over a months time and it will be my first big night out, actually come to think of it it will be my first night out without Cooper in tow... my gosh I'm excited and apprehensive at the same time! We hosted a ****tail party at home bout 3 weekends ago - promoting a promotions company for the new banana ad - nananananana make those bodies sing (it soooo gets stuck in your head) - and the banana daquiries were flowing and because I had a demanding bub stuck to my hip I didn't even manage to finish a glass!

Im so lucky i have a beaut babysitter that i have known for about 4 yrs and know ahe is minding Alistair for us from 12md til 6 3 days a weeks when i work for a set rate and the scott gets home at 6 and takes over ... i get home at 10pm. Also if we need a 'dirty weekend' or a no kid weekend we can hand him over to darling babysitter ( who is nid 50s) for 24 hrs for $70 ! Its cheaper to have a dirty/fun weekend that work haha...
