Babies Born June 16th - 30th 2008

Oh if only.. DP works away - 28 days on 9 off! So I am basically a single parent most of the time! DP is really good when he is home, lets me go do my thing (nails, hair, wax, shop) it's just not often enough and social occasions never seem to fall within the dates he has off! Take for instance Melbourne Cup day... do you think I can find someone to babysit so I can have a champers or 20 - everyone I know is already going to a luncheon or are working GRR! Still abit funny bout leaving him with a random babysitter just yet and everyone I trusted to look after him the night of the ****tail party was here! I figure good things come to those who wait.. I have been waiting a bloody long time for a night out so it's going to be a cracker!!!!!

My little princess now weighs 6.4kgs but she had problems putting on weight when she was younger. She also just had her 4 month immun. last week and had a temp :-(

Welcome June Princess. Riley also had temps from the 2nd lot of shots. Weird how it didn't happen for the first lot.

6.4kgs is good I reackon, my first born wasn't that weight until he was over 6mths of age. Girls are generally more of a slighter build too.

Hi everyone,

Might be a bit of a me post today, I see everyone is doing well - immunisations and all.

I really didnt want to go to the doctor for her shots today but she was so funny. She had a bit of a snotty nose and cough so the doc checked her out first and as soon as he put the stethascope (SP??) on her chest she took in a big breath and let out a sigh......hahaha like she knew.

Anyways she had the first shot and didnt even cry until the needle was being pulled out of her leg then smiled at the doctor. Such a brave little munchkin. Taylor had a temp at her last shots and is already getting one now. She is sleeping at the moment but I dont think she will be as sleepy this time as she was last time either.

We had her MCHN visit last week.... speaking of big babies, I was looking at the charts and we have a baby who is off the charts in length (and I noticed she isnt even the longest on here) in the 95th percentile for weight and in the 25th percentile for her head circumference. LOL odd shaped baby!! Anyways she now has 40.9cm head, 69cm in length and 7.32kgs. Its funny coz she isnt a fatty either, she has thunder thighs like her mum but the rest is just skinny Minnie. I was told off for not giving her enough tummy time because she isnt doing 'push ups' yet with her arms out straight but both Dave and I think its a crock.

Taylor has taken to rolling over very nicely.... she has been rolling from belly to back since 8 weeks and in the last 2 or 3 weeks has been rolling from back to belly with a great deal of effort though and just in the last few days she has started doing it with such ease that every time I walk into check her in her cot she is on her belly. I roll her back over but sometimes she just rolls back again. Give it another couple of weeks and Im betting money on her army crawling!!!

To answer the solids question Taylor took right to Farex, never once spat a bit out she gave a chewing sort of motion and swollows. The only time she has the extrustion reflex (sticking tongue out of mouth) is when she has had enough of her bottle or food or whatever is in her mouth at the time. In saying that Ive given Farex a break at the moment. Taylor has a cold and ever since she started with this cough she has been very chucky. A lot fo reflux that she has never had before and its much worse after the farex - isnt it supposed to be better?? Anyways Ill just wait until she is finished swollowing all her mucous (which is causing the reflux apparently) from her snotty nose and then Ill start it again.

Gosh she is long. I would say that is where her weight is, in her length.

Sheree - It's great that you are getting on top of the feeding issues at last. It's such a relief when that happens. Thank goodness for the ABA lady. I feel very lucky that I have just a happy chucker rather than a reflux bub as it must make life very hard.

livyloos mum - Yay on getting cooling. We are looking into aircon at the moment. I'm in Melb in the outer south east. Where abouts are you?

DF & I had our first night out alone together on Sat night. Left Brock with my parents while we went to the soccer. The Victory women's team won which was great but the Victory boys lost, but we still managed to have a good time. It was such a warm night. We were away from him for about 7 hours and he was fine. Didn't give them any trouble at all but he decided he needed a feed at about midnight just before I went to bed which he NEVER does.

Brock has now taken to sleeping either on his side or his tummy, he's hardly ever on his back when he wakes up now even though I always place him that way. The best new development is that if he is on his back or his side it is his right side he is favouring so it looks like we might have finally got past him leaning to the left. Yay - finally we can stop worrying about his lopsided head.

Brock had a temp again today at the docs so didn't get his needles. He hasn't had a temp since Friday and suddenly he has one when he goes to the docs. It was really warm in there, don't know if that could've done it to him while we waited 1/2 an hour for the doc who was stuck in traffic. Back again on Friday for third time lucky.

Had a rough night last night. Brock kept waking and going mental. I finally got him settled at 12.30 after he'd had two feeds (had a sleep inbetween them). I guess he wasn't feeling well.

Just got a call from DF. He resigned from his job today and they've asked him to finish up today instead of 2 weeks time. That means he'll have around 3weeks off before he starts his new position. Yay!!!!! We can now have a holiday and spend some quality time together before he starts working shifts.

Poor Brock and poor mummy.

yay for your hubby, that is gr8 he gets sum time off. I miss working for someone else to get those types of privlidges some days.

Satya: Did you end up getting Brocks immunisations??

Taylor slept for 24 hours straight (aside from me waking her at her normal feed times) after her immunisations. She had a 38.5 fever the nigh we had them done but it lasted alll of half an hour before coming back down to under 38 and within the day she was back to normal. Much better then last time!!! We even got to sleep in till 10am YAY.

Bought a Jolly Jumper for Taylor and she absolutely loves it!!

Ive been waking up at night worried about Taylor, its been every night for the last week and its starting to get really annoying. Last night was the worse. By the time Dave woke me I had thrown the blankets off both of us and was sitting up looking for Taylor because I could hear her breathiing but couldnt feel her. When I woke up I thought she got caught up in the blankets and I had thrown her when I threw off the blankets then I realised it was the baby monitor that I could hear her breathing. Most nights though Iwake up asking Dave if she has been fed or telling him that I havent fed her when actually I have or I wake up thinking she is in the bed and I have rolled onto her. Its really driving me insane and I dont know why it started now.

Anyways its really quiet in here!!! Hope everyone is well and over those immunisations for another 2 months : )

smudgies mum - your nights sound very stressful. You must be starting to be getting tired from all that waking up. I wonder what has triggered this suddenly?

Brock had his imunisations on Friday. He cried for about 10 seconds for the first one but not at all for the second one. He threw up in the waiting room afterwards so now I'm worried the liquid one wont have taken. I think I vaguely remember the doc saying the time before that it starts working as soon as it hits their mouth, not sure though. He had a bit of a temp but slept heaps - probably from the panadol. He had one loose poo & a couple of cries that night but was fairly normal.

He's still waking at night crying because his dummy has fallen out. I get up, put it back in and go back to bed, wake up an hour or so later to him crying, put it in again off he goes to sleep again & so on and so forth. Sat night he didn't wake at all. I have no idea why he is suddenly so upset without his dummy as he's always been able to sleep without it and for about a week (maybe 2) he has been waking if he's dropped it.

I've kept him on the Karicare AR & can't believe the difference it made after about a week on it. He only throws up just a little now. It's amazing. He is more regular now too. Does at least one poo a day - sometimes 3 - he used to sometimes go 3 or 4 days before. I wish I'd tried it earlier. His skin is clearing up really well too.

satya - just from experience, this is about when the whole getting up to put the dummy back in starts! I actually suggest you ween bub off the dummy now while it's easier to do it or you will be up to put a dummy in for some months. Just a suggestion - we actually put up with it and Liv had a dummy til she was 3 - shocker. But a friend weened her son off by 6 months and they were really glad they did.

I started Charli in the jolly jumper this week too - she LOVES it!!! I am so glad I got one and Liv loves playing with her in it. YAY. Charli also has been playing in a tube thingy - will have to post a few photos some time. She has been chatting non-stop the last 2 days it's adorable... and noisy!

I have nipple thrush. I haven't been to the GP but I remember this from last time. I hate it! It's painful and really hard to get rid of - you just pass it between yourself and the baby. Anyone else had it?

Liv had her 4 year old jabs today. SOOOO glad it's over with and sent DH off to do it lol.

Since it's cup day tomorrow DH took today off as well and he gave me a day off. I got to go to the shops on my own for a couple of hours (of course most of that was buying things for hte kids lol) and when I got home he took them out for a few hours so I watched a movie and got on the puter and such things. Ahhh. I feel slightly human again.

Satya- I agree with Liv I would try weening the dummy, hard I know and it will take a while of listening to crying. Taylor didnt take a dummy until she was around 8 weeks and we only gave that to her because she literally cried all day after her immunisations, there was only so many hours I could have her attached to my breast.

While I was in hospital we had a girl whose little boy had bad refux and she put him on Karicare AR while in there and she said it made a great difference. Not long until solids either which she swears inproves it even more.

Glad to hear Brock finally got his needles and was a tough little man for you.


Livy: I love those human days. I think I am due for one soon, Im feeling a bit out of sorts lately.

In saying that I feel out of sorts I am actually a little worried I may be pregnant again. The bad dreams/episodes the feeling tired during the day and well my pill which has played havoc on me for the last 3 months with spotting every few days has all of a sudden stopped. And I took a pill a few hours late about a week and a half ago then again a few days later, Im getting really forgetful with it and Ive never been like that before. It would be my luck 2 years ago i had an operation for PCO and now..... well who knows maybe Im just overreacting. I ook a pg test the other day and no sign of being pg but Im still worried, Ill take another one maybe tomorrow and see if there is any change honestly I dunno what we would do if I was pg again. I dont think we could have it and yet I know just how hard it would be for me to go the other option. Better not jump ahead of myself ill just get upset.

I wouldn't be game to try to get rid of the dummy yet. It has to get put in after every meal or he cries. I know he's not hungry it's that he gets bad wind & once the dummy is in we can then burp him. We do intend to get him off it by 12 months so are hoping that the wind & chucking will be completely resolved once solids start.

We've cleared a large space in the middle of our loungeroom. Brock is rolling all over the place so we thought it was time we gave him the room he needed so he doesn't keep rolling into couches. He looks like he's enjoying it immensely. He looks like a turtle when he's on his tummy craning his neck & head up. It's hilarious.

livyloosmum - nipple thrush - that sounds pretty awful. Glad I'm not BFing anymore!!! It's great you are feeling human again - it's so nice to have a little break. It looks like we will be on our mini break next week. A few days away somewhere midweek. It will be nice to have DF about all the time without any distractions of family and friends.

smudgiesmum - if you've been on the minipill for a few months now the spotting might have disappeared because your body is now used to it. Have you had some late nights or have you had to get up more during the night lately? That could explain the tiredness. I so understand your concerns re pregnancy. I am quite paranoid that it's going to happen to me again. It's ridiculous because it took me so long to have a baby and at my age my chances are getting so much lower all the time but still I imagine it's going to happen. I'm completely hopeless with pill taking & each month I have a very nervous wait towards the end of my cycle. I have done HPT's on a couple of cycles as I thought I might be, but I wasn't. I'm now charting in an effort to stop testing like that, and to try and stop stressing about it. At least I would see a temp rise if I was pregnant. I think in my case it might be caused by me wanting another baby but I'm not willing to give it another try for a number of reasons. Fingers crossed that your HPT's keep coming up negative.

Satya - I have a similar problem with Josie, although she doesn't sook for it every night, just sometimes? I guess it has something to do with her teething, I think she likes to bite her dummies a bit now for a bit of relief. So I have been making a habit of putting some bonjela on her gums before popping her dummy in and it seems to be helping.
For example last night she spat her dummy out a couple of times and I still had to go and put it in her mouth, but yet when I woke up at 7am this morning it was out of her mouth altogether and she was dead to the world.. lol

Thanks Emma. I may give that a try. I think he's getting ready for teething as the already very dribbly bubby is even more dibbly (didn't think that was possible) and he's shoving the whole dummy in his mouth practically. We gave him a frozen teething toy today & he loved it. He slept well last night but it was a long road to getting him to sleep... a very frustrating evening for us.


We are off to Lakes Entrance for a few nights. Looking forward to a nice relaxing time & lots of eating out.

Josie has been eating a little bit of food today, I have been giving it to her when she wakes up and doesn't want a bottle. Most of it ends up on her face anyway so I'm not concerned that I'm getting her into any bad habits or anything...

Gee it's quiet in here.

Emma - that sounds like fun. We think we will give Brock some baby rice soon. He woke us twice on our holiday in the middle of the night for food so I reckon it could be time for solids. He's also been feeding more often but that could just have been the hot weather.

Brock can now put his dummy back in his mouth so we aren't having as much disruption when he takes it out. Sometimes at night he can't get it back in but during the day he pretty much always can. He's also very good at holding his bottle suddenly. He's growing up so quickly.

We had a great little holiday. The weather was beautiful. We had a waterfront unit & got to feed swans right outside our door. One evening we had 17 black swans to ourselves. It was so peaceful & restful. Just what we needed.
