Yeah they can be firey at times, especially if provoked. But I must say he is also very sensitive by this I mean will cry at the drop of a hat and will get upset if something does go how he wants it to. But I've been told by other redheads that it's not until they hit their teens and all hormonal that you see how firey they can be.

Got ANOTHER cold and feel like cr*p again!
Well today Matt and I checked out the Electrical light stores and bought some fittings for our rumpus room. I can't live with those 3 80's style Neon sconces for another year ARGGHH! Anyway we bought some snake lights with the luminous globes which were on sale from Ideal for only $65 each! Will update those horrid 80s fittings soon.
We also had lunch at Lonestar today and Aleise slept through all of it - then like a little angel she woke up when we finshed and Matt gave her a bottle. Gee why can't she do that when she's home alone with me???
Comments re baby size: Yeah babies are supposed to be chubby (to some extent) but if you met my oldest SIL you'd realise she meant a niggling comment in a "subtle way." Matt's sisters boast about their breast feeding efforts and on occassions have made me feel less of a mother by bottlefeeding. They understand why I had to but still some people just don't know when to dig out their manners from the depths of their nappy bags (lol!). Anyway I guess they're jealous that Aleise sleeps most nights and is a very good baby 'cause their kids are quite the opposite. Oh and oldest SIL is a total snob so let's just say I tolerate her.
Jaspen: When did you move to Tsv? I grew up there. I guess you have a lovely house near the Army base from what you were saying. Is your DH in the Army? Mine used to be. I miss Tsv this time of year - not too warm and just right!
Nickers: I have to watch Aleise doesn't head but me either - she can't quite hold her head up yet but when we nurse her over our shoulder she tends to sway from side to side and sometimes clonk us one.
June Mummy:KR: Yeah its nice to catch up with neice and nephews but if MIL had her way we'd be up there every weekend! Oh and of course Christmas belongs to her so no way we'd be doing our own thing this year now we have a bub. Long story.
Well its dinner time and Matt has made a lovely sweet potato soup. I just wish I could smell it - darn cold!

that took a long time to get your payement. i got my baby bonus not long after but still waiting for my centre link payment, i first put it in in June, been some dramas ofcourse and still ahvent got it......

Hows everyone doing?? Ive missed a few days and wont be able to catch up on personals... One thing i did notice was the rerdheads... As you might be able to see by my ticker pic, Xander is a redhead (although it looks more brown in that pic...) and boy, does he have the temper to go with it. Most of the time he's just a cheeky lil buggar, but when he's p!ssed, the pitcher temper comes out in him... i should know, naturally im a redhead too, and i have the same temper :)
Well, hoping Anneliese will sleep well tonight, she had her needles yesterday (as she was so prem, i wanted to wait a lil while to get them done) and she has been so unsettled since she had them. I NEED a goods night sleep so i can watch the 'Scray slaughter to Eagles tomorrow night... Dh got me tickets, said i should take advantage of the fact i happened to be holidaying in perth and they're playing a final here!! Only prob is i wont be able to watch the Grand Final, the plane tickets back to melb even 2 weeks before are soo expensive... Buggar!! Me and Xander are going to go, get our faces painted, wear our guerseys, hats, scarves, take flags... We're gonna be soooo decked out in merchandise!! :D

I can't remember what you said in previous posts. I'm going to have to start thinking about Christmas shopping so will do a bit of that when I'm in there too (mainly Myer). Don't laugh first timers it takes 10 times longer to get organised for Christmas when you have kids constantly in tow! It's absolutely crazy I know.

Bath, were u meaning the 22nd Sept? i will be away, but the rest of u r free u should catch up. i was thinking of planning a date now for say 2nd or 3rd week in october? i usually meet up with a friend Fridays but if it comes down to the only day everyone is free i could post pone.
Thank god i am going to a baby shower today DH is on my nerves already. He has this big thing about its saturday so dont disturb me.... well that just give me the irates, i dont get this luxury anymore and when i was up trying to do things i left Nixon with him. He was winging (not crying just moany wingy) he just ignored him for 30mins! didnt try to find out what he wanted just because ITS SATURDAY and he doesnt want to get out of bed......
i end up (prob going overboard) ripping the doona off the bed and throwing it in the hall b4 getting Nixon! why does he not understand our life is different to what it used to be 5yrs ago when we had no commitments/responsibilities like we do now, if he wanted to sleep all day he could, but he has a house/family now things just arnt what they used to be...... oh i oculd keep going but it only fuels me even more!! does anyone else dh have a thing about sleep?? he just HATES getting disturbed from his slumber, here i was thinking i was good for not waking him to change Nixons massive dirty nappy (4 days between poos!) thismorning @ 6am but godforbid i wake him at 8am to help me!!
Oooh Nic! He'll change! Tell him my DH was up at 6am this morning to take Verity to Little Athletics and he sooo didn't want to! And when he gets home from that he'll have to take over looking after the boys AS WELL because I need a break from them. Maybe don't attack him, just calmly point out that no father gets to sleep in on a Saturday (well, maybe on Father's Day if they are lucky!) LOL Sounds like he just needs to speak to more dads to gain a bit of persepctive ;)
ETA: I don't really mean to imply he's being a bad Dad though... as I said, maybe he needs to go online and read about how much sleep other dads are missing out on! What would he do if you went back to work? Actually.... you ARE working! I really feel for you... I know how tired BFing makes you... they just don't get it hey? Actually they do get it when you leave them alone with the kids for a day or 2... but I know it's hard when they are so young.... I was like that with verity when she was a baby... until my DH was more experienced I worried that he wouldn't take care of her well enough to leave them alone together... but the only way your Dh is going to realise is to make sure he does as much as possible... just make sure you let him make mistakes (as long as they aren't life threatening) I know it can be hard to let go but make sure you don't create a rod for your own back. Sorry I'm lecturing now... it's taken my DH a decade to understand the full nature of selflessless that comes with being a dad... my DH seems to need a hell of a lot of sleep on the week ends too... it IS a bloke thing. Still, I know it's good for everyone that I get out by myself for at least half a day on the weekends... if when I return the house is a mess and Niall is dressed totally inappropriately it doesn't really matter... gotta see the big picture and choose your battles i guess.... a few weeks ago I spent all Saturday afternoon at Savers LOL and at about 4.30pm Verity rang me on my mobile and said "dad and Wade are asleep... Niall has woken up... should I wake dad or give him a bottle myself?" I told her how to make a bottle (she kinda already knew from watching DH) ... anyhow I was mildly freaked out but you gotta let go... and all was well when I got home...
Oh and sorry... I forgot about you going away Nic... we might have to make it for when you get back then... it'd be good if we all can make it :)

Nickers, I am sure your DH will get over his current state - once Nixon is toddling around and interacting more and he realises that "Daddy!!!" is around, I'm sure DH will come to the party. It is amazing to see men melt once they have an adoring little boy or girl looking up to them.
Update on the dummy wars - I left Flynn with DH for a few hours the other day while I ran errands. In that short space of time DH learnt the joys of the dummy - he couldn't get anything done without it! We now have no debate in our household about the merits of the gobstopper.
better go - off to a mates' place for dinner - made triple choc brownies for dessert - mmmmm
ha Rory! i know what u mean. DH shoves the dummy in Nixon's mouth at the drop of a hat! i am always saying dont give it to him unless u think he actually needs it because its going to be hell trying to wean him off it when the time comes!
Before i left he did appologise for his reaction to being woken thismorning, but then followed with a "u appologise for waking me up"!!! ha well i took it as a joke because i said i am not appologising for waking u up, other Nixon's has many appologies for me then doesn't he!
Thanks Bath- i didnt take your advise as a lecture, its good to get other perspectives aswell, i know i jumped at things that had to be done the minute he woke which isnt really what u wanna hear! we've had this convo many times, he is not a good morning person, it takes him a good 30min to actually start acting human after waking of a morning! I've watched him get ready for work sometimes and he is just a zombie! ive said things to him and then later in the day he doesnt remember having the conversation!
anyway baby shower was good, for my friend having identical twin girls, she got heaps of nice girly things as well as everyday stuff. to my surprise i was the only bf mother out of 6 mums with babies from 5-14weeks old, i kinda felt like the odd one out! i was planning to feed nixon there but cause he stayed awake charming everyone for so long he was zonked so brought him home he slept the 30min trip back so just feeding him now. having some troubles again so thanking i made it back home to feed.

Hi girls, what a lovley saturday! DH and I have done not alot today, I actualley made it for a nap (like the 3rd afternoon nap I have had since Tori was born), I also got out and did some water aerobics this morning so feeling pretty good.
DH has spent most the day looking after Tori, is has been a nice break to have a bit of me time, he did just say to me though that he feels really worn out from spending all day looking after her, and I said 'welcome to my world'. At least i know he is starting to get an appreciation for what my days are really like.
I have just added our Pixi Photo shots into Tori's album on her website, I am really happy with the way the family shot has turned out.
Tomorrow we are going out for lunch with a bunch of old school friends and husbands/partners. There are 5 of us girls that are still friends (2 of the girls I still see all the time) and we manage to all get together about once a year for a catch up. It will be the first time we have all caught up since my wedding last Sept, so there should be heaps to gossip about, it is also the first time 2 of the girls have met Tori.
Anyway I am off to do a bit more relaxing on the couch!

The video is pretty funny hey! I made it for you as I was always talking about how cool the hammock is! It is a Natures Sway, borrowed from a friend, but all the other gals on BB use another brand "Amby" (buy from the internet) they are $230. Since making that video, I've learnt how to do it with my toes!
Nic - my first hubby loved his bed, this one is normally fine (he actaully takes her each morning at 6am while he walks the dog and gets ready for work, so I can have a sleep)..this morning however he was very hung over (Demons' lost), but I still made him "take over" at 7am..there was a small amount of grumbling.
Neeny - sorry u have a cold - pls try my ginger tea - it is AMAZING.. grate one teaspoon of fresh ginger root and put in a mug of boiling water with one teaspoon of honey (or to taste).. drink 3 cups.. the ginger makes you sweat your cold out I think? It always works for me...Sorry SIL gives you greif, my sister makes sly comments to me all the time, I find it really hard, as I so want us to get along... but every time we speak I feel like she always finds some way to work a sly comment into the converstaion.. DH thinks she is jealous that the family is focused on me at the moment/ maybe your SIL is jealous of your little "cubby" angle who sleeps well and is so beautiful!!!!

US: DH took us on a ferry to this beach (Bunnenda) in Sutherland National Park - the ferry driver let our dog on the ferry as well. But said, the rule is - "if anything comes out either end we have to clean it up!" LOL We had a great day, so nice to be at the beach with my DH, my dog and my baby...
Baths - gee your house looks clean!!!! My computer room / baby room was such a mess, I was even in my PJ's during that video.. I'm not that young (36)....
Ali - yeah, don't you love the w/e... DH is in charge at our house on the w/e.. I still need to feed, but he really does everything else.. which sometimes works, but other times it does not, last night he did not do her nappy tight enough around the middle and it leaked (the nappy was actually dry, but the single, jumpsuit were all wet).. so I had to do the 'full change', which of course woke her up and then she was awake from 2-3am!!!! Ahhh.. tonight she has a fluffy over her nappy! She has never been awake at night before, I definatly do not want to start something....

sorry havent been on for a while but have been thinking of you all!
Lachlan is still very unsettled but is slowly getting better, i took him to the gp the other day who suggested that he may have a lactose intolorance (thanks tresillian and the three paediatricians that i have seen for not suggesting this) he has really itchy eyes, mucasy (sp?) vomit and poo and has broken out in eczema! they told me that by four months it should be ok so im going to persist with BF until then (three weeks) and if no better i will wean him (unfortunately) he is not staying on the boob long enough to get the hind milk, i have tried expressing but it just doesnt work, im having a bad time feeding him at the moment but at the same time dont want to stop!
He is still only cat napping through the day and waking 4 - 5 times per night so still no rest for me, im looking forward to a good four hour sleep or something like that, it will be heaven!!
Cee Cee - Where abouts in sydney do you live? my mum and dad are right near bundeena, i would love to catch up with you next time im up if your near the sutherland shire area!!

Oh one thing i did try which i think might be having some effect is Calm! its from the chemist, totaly natural, just a few drops every four hours and it helps to relax baby. its made from Chamimile etc!!
Sorry haven't been in for a while, feel like crap. 2 weeks ago got mastitis, now have sinusitis. Now the breast that was affected is peeling like I was sunburnt and I keep getting these sharp shooting pains in breast and nipple and nipple is grazed, attachment hurts, I am so fed up with it all. Back to dr on Monday i guess.
Saturday night and the kids are in bed and here I am online....amazing how your social life disappears with kids! In Perth, when we had 1 kid and a large social group we were out most weekends and Gaby just adjusted to it all. But here it is completely different and we dont know as many people. Oh well such is life. Off to perth again on Tuesday anyway for Alex's christening next weekend.
Meant to say that last Friday 8th Sept was a great day, both my sil and one of best friends gave birth on same day. 1 was overdue and the other early, fancy the chances of that! So we had Connor Aidan born to sil and Sashana Grace to friend. Cannot wait to meet them all next week!
Dee am crossing my fingers for you that this Calm stuff continues to work and that Lachy is lactose intolerant, at least that would explain a few things. Good on you for getting this far with the b/f and I really hope that Lachy settles soon so that you can get some sleep!
Karen am cringing as I reread your post. You must be in agony you poor thing, hope the dr can prescribe something to help.
Ceecee sounds like you had a lovely time at the beach with your little family. Isnt it amazing how much fun simple things like that are especially when you have a family unit?
Ali lucky you for having that break, your DH sounds wonderful. Hope you enjoy your lunch, always nice when people get to meet your bubs for the first time.
About the whole "comments on babies weight/looks" issue. We constantly get comments on Alex, latest one being that he looks like a 9 month old or that he is a little monster (hehe have to agree with that one). I mean we cant deny it, he IS a HUGE boy - 7 kilos and 68 cms, but I just take them all with a pinch of salt and smile and agree with them. And usually respond by saying something like "yes we think hes gorgeous".
And as for "partners sleeping and helping out habits", I guess I am lucky. DH by nature is an early riser and the weekend is no exception - mind you he works Saturdays anyway. When he is home he tends to get up with the kids and he does help out, although alot of the time I do have to remind/ask him. Cant complain too much especially with the hours he works. Afterall him working and bringing in the money he does allows me to stay at home quite comfortably, can't complain about that.
Well this has turned out to be a long post, amazing what you can do when you have some "quiet time" to yourself!!
Gabysmum, two new bubas on the same day - how lovely! Goof friends of ours had their twin boys a week or so ago and I am hanging out to visit them - makes me kinda wish Flynn was a little bubba again....

Dee I do hope Lochie settles down. Not sure if you can use it on small bubs but "Rescue Remedy" spray apparently works well for some kids also.
Ceecee, forgot to say - Flynn slept til 1am the other night (instead of 11pm) but the bonus was he woke in the morning at 7am instead of 5am. He sort of phase shifted forward by 2 hours...

Bath, we had our first BBQ of the season the other day too. On the spur of the moment we rang up mates with a 10 month old girl and had a BBQ at the valley park at the bottom of our street. Only bummer was the nice warm afternoon got very cold as soon as dusk hit, so we had to hightail outa there real quick. The Emmaljunga pram came in so handy - I used Flynn's toy basket (kinda like a cane washing basket with two handles) to carry all the BBQ stuff and it fit perfectly on the shopping rack under the pram.
My day is turning out pretty well so far. After a broken sleep (Flynn was up every couple of hours *****in' about something or the other) DH took Flynn downstairs and amused him until 10am when he brought him in for a feed. So I feel really rested now, and Flynn has now been asleep for 1 and a half hours so it looks like it will be a good qaulity nap. DH is busy building the FINAL cabinet in my kitchen (yay!) and I am going to try and get some gardening done this arvo (green waste collection is tomorrow morning). Unfortunately, though, I have to do about 2 hours works also, but you gotta have some sour in life to enjoy the sweet!

bbqs- DH bought a new one yesterday (last time we went to use ours the plate had all rusted) and he was putting it togther last night we were all ready to have our first barby on it, but he put the legs on wrong so we ditched that idea! he is out fixing it now and we will try for a bbq again tonight!!
Rory- glad u got some well deserved rest good on your DH for taking Flynn for a few hours!

BBQ - I bought one last year for DH's birthday it was from BBQ's Galore, and I bought it from the seconds store, for half price, and it was already assembled, I put it in the back yard and invited all his friends for a surprise party /BBQ... It was a great night...he was so surprised, by the party and then by the BBQ, he loves it, cooks on it at least twice a week...
Me: we were suppose to show Ally off to some of DH's friends in the Eastern Suburbs, but the city was closed due to a marathon, so we drove around for 2 hours, (should have taken 20 mins) we just got stuck in traffic, and kept getting diverted in the wrong direction... after an hour, Ally was of course screaming... so had to pull over and feed, we had to ring them and cancel. Waste of a morning....but one of the couples came to our house in the afternoon, they have 3 kids, 5,3,1 and they gave me a huge bag of clothes, yeah, there is no need to buy anything for another six months now... truthfully, I have not bought Ally a single item of clothing yet!
Well it's been raining here all weekend so not alot could be done, the kids were going insane been stuck inside. My mum came over today and had a big breakfast and spent the day together which was nice.
Cody rolled over to his tummy this morning my clever little man and when he's in his pram I have it slightly elevated and he is trying to sit up, boy is he growing fast now.
Karen sorry to hear that your having a bad run, hope it gets better soon.

Back tonight. Too tired to reply to the two pages of posts I've missed, and probably won't get round to, either!
Bittersweet weekend - the house was LOVELY, the weather was perfect, the treatments fabulous, my swim with Oscar really nice, the company awesome...Oscar has his first cold and screamed half the way up there (with me in tears cos there was nothing I could do after I'd fed him, given him Brauer's Colic Relief (bought on the Friday so that I could ditch the Infacol) and held him. Poor little bugger broke my heart, but the HAB was a real life saver and Oscar spent most of the weekend in it. Saturday I timed everything really well - I fed him half an hour before my treatments were due to start, put him in the HAB, got him to close his eyes, lay on the hammock in the waiting area (on the deck under the sail shades at Hepburn Springs), let him fall asleep then transferred him ever so gently into the portable carrier and he slept for the whole time I was in (about 2 hours) and only properly waking when I came out to meet the girls and he heard my voice (they'd been minding him). Ahhhh! At least he slept for most of the journey back and is asleep now. I'll try to see a doctor tomorrow, even though he seems to be recovering now.
I'm so tired from a combination of being so relaxed yesterday afternoon and from being fully awake at 3am both mornings when Oscar was feeling particularly unwell and needed extra comforting (neither of us are used to being fully awake for night feeds, so I suspect we're both feeling wrecked!).
Dee - I rarely get a 4 hour stretch of sleep, but with the co-sleeping it doesn't seem to matter, normally, cos even if Oscar feeds every 2 hours I feel quite rested from not having to fully wake.
OK, eyes are dropping, gonna head off again!
IK that sounds like a lovely weekend - where in Hepburn Springs/Daylesford did you stay? I used to visit there with my mum when I was a kid - we stayed at a cottage up the hill from the Springs. So nice, and such great weather for it. Poor little Oscar - Flynn has a cold too at the moment - I am using FESS little noses saline drops up is nose, and it seems to relieve congestion.
C'mon Amanda, isn't a rainy day when a "good mummy" is supposed to get out her goodies box and entertain her "leave it to beaver" children with paper crafts? Yeah right, while she bakes her own bread, boils up soap, darns socks and massages her husband's feet - NOT! I tell you, I am not looking forward to the "I'm bored, mum" that I know is coming. At least Flynn is easily entranced by a boob - LOL!
Ceecee, I reckon if it wasn't for all the horrible stories about women having children 9 months apart and how hard it is I reckon we'd be trying now!! Since the moment Flynn was born (well, maybe not exactly THE moment!) I have wanted his brother or sister. I look at him and feel the love for him and just can't wait for it to be DOUBLED or TRIPLED with the next one or two.:)
Nickers, must have been something about BBQs last night - we were at a mate's place in Hurstbridge, settling down to a pork loin done on the BBQ rotisserie, when the power cut out and we realised our mates BBQ was on fire - the burnt rotisserie motor had tripped the safety switch on the house.
Had a great afternoon - got a few hours work done, played with Flynn, and had a nice rack of lamb dinner. Now I just have to get organised - ahhh, the holy grail of the housewife.....
Before I go, I thought I'd reinstate the "question for the day" - at what age are you going to introduce solids? Official guidelines now say 6 months, but many "oldschool" MCHNs will say its ok to start at 4 months. Are you worried about allergies if you introduce food before 6 months? Are you going to make your own, or try out some of the supermarket varieties?
Personally, I was hanging out to introduce solids at 4 months, but now that is only a few weeks away I don't know. I don't reckon I can give up the (to me) odourless nappies just yet!! Also, I had my first hayfever reaction at about 4 months, and I am hoping Flynn doesn't and so hope that exclusive breastmilk might stave off a reaction in him (vain hope?) I have Grand Plans of only ever giving Flynn homemade stuff (I think it will be easily to achieve when all he eats is mashed fruit and veg) but completely accept the fact that I may succumb to the siren song of "Heartly Veg and Couscous Casserole" from the babyfood aisle.

Also we are starting to try again in Feb/March next year as Ronan will be 1 by that time, so it will be interesting to see who is pregnant first! :D

Yep Happy 6 months Mr Ronan!!! hope he had a good day. Nixon is fast asleep, he was so zonked he didnt even wake up when i put him to bed! How fast has it gone... well its been a long journey for Ronan already and at the time seemed to go every so slowly but now look he is half a year old already wow!!
I've been thinking that i'd like to TTC Feb/March next yr to so wouldnt it be funny if half of us end up going through out No:2 journey together again!
Question for the day- well i have just started trying Nixon with some rice cerial as of yesterday.(still have feeding issues and he doesnt seem to be satisfied after some feeds. He is 5months (but only really 3 1/2) so not really pushing the issue, he didnt know what to do with it and sat it in his mouth and cried! I think i'll wait another week or few days or so b4 trying again.

Back from my weekend away to my future FIL and DD'a uncles who had never met her. I can't believe my little princess will be 3 mnths on thursday. Well Tee behaved herself real well when we were away, probably because there was so much new things/people to take in. She slept in her porta cot for the first time, she looked so tiny but she settled okay because we put the snuggle bed in it and put her in that. The trip home was a bit slow as Tee decided that she can't handle heat and was vomiting everywhere, so i stripped all her clothes off her till she was in her nappy and singlet and tried to get her to drink some cool boiled water to keep her hydrated....doesn't like water to much but managed to get some into her.
I hae been so clucky lately its not funny!!! I feel bad for feeling like this already as Tee isn't 3 mnths yet. As of Jan next year we will be using no protection and just let nature take its course so will be interesting to see who will be pregnant again first!!! Prob not me as it took 7 mnths to concieve Tarleha so will probably take that long if not longer next time round. I am starting Tee onsolids next week so will see how she goes, she already likes sweet potato, KFC potato and gravy and ice cream OOPS

Next baby???? - I want to B/F for at least a year, so I guess we won't start till July next year, I don't think I would like to be B/F and pg. I'm not even sure it is possible? With this pg I had a horrible heat rash, so I may wait till even later so I'm not heavly pg in the heat of summer (the rash was that horrible).
Feeding update: as some of you may remember I was concerned that Ally was not getting enough milk as she had only put on 300 grams is 3 weeks and my boobs were empty each night, so I started to wake her for an additional feed at 10pm... well, the 10pm feed is probably the best feed she gets as I'm "full" (4 hours since last feed) and she is tired and not distracted by what is going on..she also seems fatter? However.... I'm exaushted, as it means I don't get to bed till 10.30pm, then she wakes at 1.30 or 2am for her next feed, then this morning she woke again at 4am... Yawn... I'm soooo tired and, she seems to feed less in the day now... Am I being an idiot for changing a good system?
Starting solids: ummmm.. I'm not sure, maybe six months? As this is my first it will be organic home made vegies first off... I'm sure by number 2 or 3 it will be ready made, shelf bought, and given asap - he hee

IK - hope Oscar is feeling better soon although it sounds like you had a relatively good weekend considering.
Solids - 1st one I started around 4 months and he used to eat tonnes - cereal initially with bananas and mashed peas and potato as first real foods then into some homecooked others tinned (cause we were travelling a lot) although even as he grew older I stuck with a lot of the then 4 month old tinned food as the veges for the younger ones had a higher proportion of real food like 90% then some of the meal formulas made for the older kids so tended to stick with the younger kids tins for fruit and veges when I didn't have my own and mix it in with homecooked meats and cereals when I didn't have any of my own veges - generally though tried to belnd up our veges or our meals(once past the single spoon of veges stage). Mine was a guts though and would eat almost anything at any consistency (except for the Heinz lamb and veges tinned food - would never eat that one for some reason). Anyway with Samuel I'll be trying to hold out until the six months - a)his skin etc is much more like mine and hypersensitive so I'm working on the theory this could also mean he's a bit more sensitive to foods so the longer I hold out the better b) also with our trip at the end of the year if he's not really advance on solids (my first would have been on three full meals a day with the euqivalent quantity of 2 tins per meal by 6 mths) thats one less thing I need to worry about him having to have. Now in saying all this for those of you feeling pressured by others (cause that's what they did) I found that although DS ate solids from 4mths quite happily - in fact loved eating them and would eat as much as I would give him and keep asking for more I don't know that too much of it was actually being digested as it did not make him gain weight very much at all (if any).
Go Cody - Samuel's not even interested in rolling over yet either - he's still fascinated with his fists and anything in them but who gives two hoots if its not within reach it can just stay there is his theory.
Anyway I hear a squak from upstairs so had better go check what the problem is.

Cee Cee - definitely possible to BF and be pg at the same time :) Some women do have a diminished supply, though, though some even go on to tandem feed, although this is not possible for many women because of lifestyle, or even milk production issues. But definitely possible. Also, not putting on 'enough' weight does not necessarily mean your baby isn't getting enough milk, it may just mean she doesn't need much milk and that she's thumbing her nose at the charts that say she should be putting on more! Oscar's cousin is a whole month older than he is and he is streets ahead of her in weight gain, but she is being exclusively BF, like her siblings, and her mum isn't concerned about how it measures up to any damn charts. She's still healthy, still feeding well, just not in the Oscar range of things, and that's ok, cos the maternal nurse tried to tell me on Friday that, according to the freaking charts, he is overweight for his height...my eyes glazed over as she showed me charts and where Oscar sits on them. I don't even really care what weight he is, to be frank, as long as he's not constantly hungry, sick and/or sad! SO, please don't fret about not having enough milk. I trust that Oscar is telling me the when he needs to feed, so I dont' wake him from sleep (I can deal with inflated boobs when he's asleep, like I did yesterday when I put him back in the car and he stayed sleeping - I had to lean out of the back of the car and leak onto the carpark grass!). His own body knows what it needs and it makes him ask for it when he's ready.
Speaking of baby sleep, Oscar has been doing a lot in the last few days, but I think it's been good for his recovery because his wheezing is dissipating and the nights are getting better for him. His cousin had a cold from 4 weeks and it lasted ages, so hopefully this cold doesn't hang around for too long.
Solids - haven't given this more than a fleeting thought, but I think I plan to exclusively BF until 6 months at least before I think about comp feeding. My dietitian cousin (who mainly does a lot of boasting, but sometimes has a nugget of useful information!) recommends mushed up apple to begin with, as it's easy to digest. I'm not sure how comfortable I feel about the idea of weaning, so I think I'm leaning towards child-led weaning. We have such an active lifestyle that I don't think this will be an issue in 4 years' time!
TTC again - thinking that in two years from now would be a good time, uni plans-wise. we'll see. As much as I, too, was thinking of siblings for Oscar shortly after the birth (as in, I was still at the birth centre!), I am also very caught up with him and his personality and I want to enjoy that for a bit before the next one comes.
My snuffly baby is asleep in the HAB, he wouldn't go to sleep after his last feed, so I took the opportunity to feed myself breakfast (left over choco pops from teh weekend! SOMEONE's got to finish them...), catch up on BB, have some flaxseed oil (dry scalp is driving me nuts!) and then go back to bed to await the arrival of these thunder storms - getting very blowy out my way and even though it's predicted to be warm, I'll leave my horse's rugs on. I would like to keep things quiet for Oscar today, to give him half a chance to recover, and a trip out to windy paddocks just doesn't make it that high on the priority list - sorry, pony! Dante will survive, Oscar is too little to realise that it's a cold that is making him miserable. He's such a trooper, though - he's been in quite a bit of discomfort, but has only cried when it's really, really getting too much. I don't want him to feel he has to subscribe to his father's 'stoicism', though, so if he's not a trooper, then that's fine too - that's what I'm here for! It was such a relief, though, when he fell asleep just out of Gisborne on the way home.
I'm so tired, still, so I'm going back to bed. His being sick has had me feeling the most tired I've been since he was born - waking up and not feeling rested at all. Not even during our tongue tie issues did I feel so unrested!

IK - thanks for your words, Ally is 'average' according to the charts, so I think I will just tell people that when they say "do you have enough milk?" and I start to doubt myslef...RE: Oscar's overweight... how can a B/F baby be overweight...I think it is very inspirational that you led Oscar decide his needs...PS..I loved your inflated boob story in the car park, LOL!!!!!!!
I also wanted to mention what I use for a dry scalp, it is an 'all natural' product, made in Australia called "moo goo". I used to use Head & Shoulders, since using Moo Goo I no longer need to use any anti-dandruit shampoo... according to their web site, one drop of a product like Head & Shoulders in a fish tank would kill all the fish, however a whole litre of Moo Goo in the tank would not even harm them, that is how environmentally friendly it is, and we have to love that... It is also what I use on Ally as she also has dry skin..you need to buy it on line, also try their goats milk soap - it is amazingly soft and my DH even uses it to shave with! Also smells divine!

I think the real reason I want to delay solids so I don't have to make extra meals - he hee - it is all about us / our lifestyle! But I think that is good, a happy family works together!
Ceecee - i know what you mean re the extra meals although to a point from day dot I tried to give DS a version of whatever we were having (once past the cereal stage) or do some extra veges when cooking for one meal and freeze them then so I wasn't having to do separate stuff cause the minute I've got to do to much mucking around I get frustrated and look to cut corners (eg tins etc). eg if something with an unsuitable sauce (took meat and veges out and mushed before adding sauce ingredients etc). If we were having meat and veges - he'd have potato or corn or peas or one of the veges. Of course I'm really talking after the initial introduction of cereal etc. Would you be able to email me the site for moogoo as I have really bad icthiosis so not really dandruff and it looks like Sam's got it too so am looking for something a bit softer for him than the supermarket antidandruff stuff - if he's like me I have to rotate my shampoos no matter what they are so always good to have a new option.
IK - I'm a bit with you IK I haven't really given much thought to solids up until this point yet with DS#1 I had - maybe it was because the starting time was four months then and now its six plus DS#1 fed a lot less than Samuel does.
Nic - I'd say by the sounds of it Nixons really not interested in solids yet (only my opinion so please ignore as appropriate) alhtough I can certainly understand you wanting to give it a go if he doesn't seem satisfied after a feed but personally I think its good you are relaxed about it and not in a hurry to push him - with respect to premmies is solids one of the things that fits into their actual age bracket or their corrected age bracket???
Well it's not getting any easier juggling the needs of Wade and Niall... sorry I still can't do personals although I ROFL at CeeCee's comment at my "Clean" house I've taken a photo looking the other direction... will post it when Wade goes down for a nap... he's been playing outside all morning and is filthy so I need to give him a bath before I put him in bed with the fresh linen I put on this morning.
Solids: easy, delaying as long as possible. Probably will introduce soon after 6 months like I did with the others but if he shows no interest I won't complain! The novelty of hand feeding a baby has worn off with me... unless they are a good eater it's one of the most frustrating tasks of baby-care. Also it was the opposite with me and convenience baby food: verity had more because I was so frustrated at her refusing foods I had made myself that I stayed with jar food.... until i realised how expensive it was getting! (because i only bought her good quality organic stuff). With Wade, luckily he was a better eater and ate my prepared meals so I made the effort more often to make my own... also because I was motivated to save money. If a child is on formula and bought baby jar food it can cost an extra $30 a week compared to if you BF and made your own from pure fresh foods.... add that to disposable nappies and you can understand how expensive babies can be. Anyhow... I agree, pureed apple is good to give as one of the first foods... and rice cereal as opposed to wheat based ones... much easier on their delicate digestive systems.
I thought Wade was peacefully having a bath but when I checked on him I found him pouring the bathwater out of the bath with a jug I used to wash his hair last night... it's run onto the carpet... once again i am grateful we are renting!

bath - what is about the need to empty the bath water out of the bath onto the floor - but if you go to pull the plug out and empty the water that way all hell breaks loose with "no don't take the water away - I'm not finished...." I'm fully hearing you about juggling their needs - I don't to know why Samuel has his more unsettled days when Ben's home - the days he's at daycare Samuel sleeps all day - I know why in the back of my mind but it gets a bit aghhh!!
ETA - weighed Sam at the chemist on the weekend and he's a fatso at 6.97kg (although I remember Benjamin packing it on until aobut 4 months when he got sick and plateaued for months on end. Actually Samuel's not really fat except for the tops of his legs where the rolls appear - can't measure his length though to find out whether he's tall but 00 clothes do fit him well although we can still squeeze into some 000.
Having the next - DH says there won't be another and although I think about having another I want to hold out for a while cause a) need to ski at Xmas LOL b) want to enjoy Samuel and devote some time to Benjamin before he's due to start school in a couple of years and c) knowing it will definitely be my last (if Samuel isn't) leave it as late as possible.

Thanks for the Moo Goo tip, Cee Cee. I stopped using anti-dandruffs ages ago cos I realised I don't have dandruff. One doctor said it was a version of sebhorrhea (unsure of sp), but whatever it is it doesn't respond to anti-dandruffs or even much to apple cider vinegar rinsing. I use shampoos with high organic content and little to no sulfates etc. I've always had a degree of it but it became quite acute towards the end of the pregnancy and especially afterwards. I had flaxseed oil tablets (well, the gelcap things) and now I've got an Omega oil blend (the Melrose stuff) that I put in my breakfast cereal (doesn't even make it taste funny!) and I started that late last week (didn't take it on the weekend) and I feel that it's improving. I'll look up the moo goo, though, cos I'm game to try anything that might work! I hate having to wash my hair everyday to get rid of the flaking skin - with my curly hair it can't just shake out, so I have to wet it down to get it out!
FYI Melbourne girls- on the 25th October there's a CD launch for 'The Gift', the compilation by artists who have donated their songs to raise funds for milk banks around Australia. I hope Kelly doesn't mind me posting this, but it's an ABA initiative and it is such a good cause! Also, one of the artists is my favourite local singer/songwriter, so I think I'll be there! I've just lost the email that contained the info (very strange, but I think there's a gremlin on my server, it's eaten all emails sent since Friday night!).
OK, back to business...might go see pony after all, I got my eBay won spring rug this morning by courier, so might get the thick rug off him, put the light waterproof one on and not worry about him if I can't get to him during the week cos he wont' be too hot or getting too wet!
Solids - I'm starting Nathan at 4 months, did so with my other 2 and no allergies, Paed also recommended 4 months. Read an article in medical journal that leaving it too long to introduce solids increases risk of allergies but I think this was more like 9 months.

Went back to dr today he suggested drixine nasal spray, he didn't want to give me any more antibiotics as I have had so many lately and for the 1st time in weeks I feel half human now.
Is there a prize for the 1st to conceive? Don't know if we are going again or not. I say no but dh says maybe.
aaaaah lovely... blissfully quiet... both boys asleep... Verity down the street somewhere playing with neighbours... can only hear birds :) One minute it was chaos... the next it's the "eye of the storm" ( <-- my term for midday when naps occur LOL).
No biccys in the house so making up a quick batch of shortbread... no castor sugar either (didn't do a shop on the weekend... doing it tonight)... using brown sugar instead... at least it's finer than the raw sugar we have... bit of an experiment... let's see what happens... I'm sure it will be edible!

Another wild and woolly day in perth, perfect weather for getting things done around the house (if I can be bothered).
Dh and I went and did the grocery shopping this morning, and decided to try shopping fortnightly as apposed to weekly, and OMG did we see a difference ( I guess the real test will be how many times we need to go to the shop because we have run out of things) however, we managed to get a fortnights worth of stuff for about $60 more than it would cost to just buy for a week. I am hoping that it works out, and we can stick to a fortnightly shop because I detest grocery shopping and would happily cut down the amount of times we have to go.
I amgoing to go shortly and rearrange the pantry because we have so much stuff in there that doesnt get used, and it is wasteful! Then if I am feeling energetic still I will do some baking before I get the lambshanks ready in the oven for dinner tonight!
Had a great catch up with my old school friends yesterday, it is so nice to catch up with different people that you dont see very often, because there is always something new and interesting to talk about.
Solids: We wont be starting till around 6 months. I would like to have Tori well onto solids by the time I go back to work, but that wont be untill early Feb, so I am going to give myself 6 odd weeks to get her going on solids before then.
TTC I cant wait to have another, but probably wont start trying again untill oct/nov next year so that I can spend some time back at work earning a bit more money. Hopefully we will be lucky and fall quickly like we did this time but who knows.
Anyway I am off to do my jobs before my enthusiasm disappears and nothing gets done again!

It was actually the other mummies who reminded me that sleep is healing - I was going to let him sleep anyway cos a sleepy Oscar was not a crying Oscar, so it was good to get confirmation of that. The car trips were the worst cos he'd be on his back and whatever mucus to air ratio that was happening was not conducive to being on his back (in fact, just had another screaming episode before when changing his nappy - wanna give that air in his belly what for!!), so yesterday when we left the house after check-out instead of putting him in the car to get to town I decided to meet the girls there and walk up. He was still awake when I left, but the 10 minute brisk walk in the HAB had him asleep and content. The others then drove to the market and I walked with another one of us to avoid the car again! Was great to walk and it was lovely weather. By the time I put him in the car to get to the Chocolate Mill (!!!) he was asleep, but then he woke and cried again, but at least it was for hunger and not out of pain.
Yep, I've heard of MiEssence and I have some products that were sent to me by my 'sister in the sky' (like a sister to us and she's a flight attendant, hence the moniker!), who is also a distributor, and sent me some stuff for me and some Gaia baby products for Oscar when I told her I was pregnant (loving the talc and the shampoo - it's been great for his mild cradle cap). I love my body wash, haven't tried the deodorant yet and she sent me a CD about InLiven - yet to try it. I'll check out the price of the shampoo and conditioner next time I'm in Belgrave (nearest stockist), but I'm also enjoying my Alba products. Unfortunately, as much as I like them, they are a US product (albeit Hawaii) and it would be nice to spend Australian. They are also not as expensive as MiEssence but them's the breaks.
Might not make it to the pony after all. I'm still in pj's - had a nap with the boy then he woke for a feed and change and now he's asleep again after his cry. I'm loathe to upset the apple cart by putting him in the car - where this time I'll be driving and can't keep my hand stroking his face and head! Maybe DP can help me out there when he gets home. If he can keep the boy asleep then I could be there and back before he gets hungry again...or DP could just come with me and I can sit in the back with the boy. Sometimes I just need an extra hand and have to admit defeat!
Four months seems too soon to be starting Oscar on solids - that's only four weeks away! I'm comfortable to wait until he can at least sit up by himself - I figure that if he can't sit up he shouldn't be eating what could just get stuck in his throat. I know I can't eat properly lying down!
ETA: not that I'd feed him lying down! I meant that I take his not sitting up as an evolutionary sign that he's not ready for solids. Geez, that could read all wrong without the edit!!
I hate that I've had to introduce something other than breastmilk into his system already, in the form of the Infacol and even the gentler Colic Relief. What can I say, I am just a huge fan of breastmilk, especially my own! Disclaimer - this applies to me and Oscar, I'm not saying I think this needs to apply to everyone. If someone is comfortable doing solids at 4 months it's because they know their own child and what suits their situation. I'm just not going to do it until later in the piece. And he doesn't look like he'll need supplementation for a good while yet.

Had an uneventful weekend and Matt finally mowed the lawn after a 6 month spell - one downside to having all this rain.
Still got my cold but its slowly getting better. Did 6 hours of baby sitting last night as a neighbour and her hubby went to see the "Count Down Spectacular" and she said it was great. WEll I would be jealous except we got Billy Joel tickets and I don't think he's likely to come to Australia again in a hurry after this tour.
Cee-cee: Thanks for your tip on the ginger tea - will have to try it but my next shopping day is Wednesday and I hope the cold will be gone by then.
Racs & NIckers: Congrats on your little men turning 5 and 6 months. They must be more fun than 3 month olds!
Aleise is only starting to hold onto any toys I give her - for about 10 seconds anyway. She's pulling on her babyswing toys (that makes it light up and triggers music). Kinda hoping she uses her left hand soon - she's definately right handed as that right hand toy surely is a favourite!
Jaspen: How's the spring weather in Tsv? Gee I really miss it this time of year! I used to live 2 streets away from the Strand and loved my daily walks. Also used to ride my bike to work (used to work for EPA at Pallarenda) when it wasn't too windy that is.
Bath: How do you keep your figure with all that wonderful stuff you cook darls? I made a gluten free cake on Friday and its half gone! Matt hasn't had much of it either!
