typing single finger, left handed while feeding...oh jaspen i know i know... you need to be an octopuss to deal with toddlers and babies and life at the same time.... it's just not right that a mother on her own has to deal with so many demands day in day out.... i'm hoping that technology will come to the rescue and more mums document their trials so the isolation and 'silence' of the whole situation is opened up and shared. every day is a risk when you are in this situation because you just can't have eyes everywhere...and what do those old men know? stuff all! if the only time you could use your phone safely was when your kids were asleep then you'd never be able to use it 'cos that's when you should be sleeping yourself! i know the minute the phone rings in this house Wade is up to mischief... even if we had a cordless i'd still have to juggle a conversation with dealing with him... atm i am tolerating him touching the stereo touching the tv touching the school notices leaving the door open spreading books all over the lounge floor that i just tidied up and now he's in the fridge so i've really got to go...

oh Jaspen, hugs to you honey. Your in a fragile place with your Dad illness right now (as any one would be), your poor kids can probably sense it and are mucking up as they don't know what else to do. they are probably not use to seeing you not 100% in control. You have done nothing wrong, no one can watch their kids 24/7. We all do our best each day.
Screw that old man, I bet he NEVER had to manage 3 kids every day.

re: toddler not listening, on 9am (TV show) this morning they said that if you whisper it, they may listen? They also said you could write in and in two weeks they will deal with the most common problems like not listening to instructions and how to get your kids to do stuff... so it sounds like you and Bath's are not alone.

My girlfriend has a 3 yo, she tells her to "turn her listening ears on" her daughter then has to stop what she is doing, pretend to switch her ears (a physical response) then her Mum will tell her what to do.. maybe you could try this? It works a treat for them.

Me: nothing like retail therapy , i just bought a Zoo Pillow for breast feeding and a bath stand..the Zoo Pillow also works as a seat for Ally, I will post a picture for you on my site so you can see it...

ABA morning coffee was just lovely this morning - lovely old house in Ferny Creek that has secret rooms and old stairs and just old stuff!
Bath - I hope you know I was joking when I said Wade was an angel and I didn't believe your stories about him! I know how kids and animals can make great liars out of us and that as cherubic as he looked on Friday, I know of too many 2-4 year olds who are Jekyll and Hyde-like to think that you are making up this behaviour!

There must be something in the air with these older kids, I swear, Kailen had his check up at the doctors at 11am so I thought that I would go to the shops first to pay some money on my layby then go to the docs. They weren't to bad at the shops but as soon as we got to the docs they were using loud voices and the magazines they were looking through had the ladies that had lost weight and were in bikini's and saying in their loudest voices that the ladies were SEXY, I don't mind them talking but this was a tad embarassing . So Bath and Jaspen I can totally relate to what you have both said and it does drive you insane. I've also been feeling quite low lately and just not quite right hopefully it will pass soon.

CeeCee that pillow looks so cute and Ally looks really comfy in it.

Nixon happy 6 mths for yesterday, what a big boy your getting now.

well, we just had our first fall - out of the new Zoo pillow and onto the hard wodden floors...i put Ally on the couch as we have a dog who is allowed inside - he knows not to touch the baby, but you know the saying "never leave a dog alone with a child". So she was sitting in her new pillow and must have managed to lean forward and "smack" rolled out of the pillow and onto the floor... She screamed and screamed, I put her on the boob and she was quiet within seconds (THANK GOODNESS FOR BOOBS!). But I just feel horrible. She is alseep now - poor little girl...the couch is pretty low to the ground, but I'm sure it still hurt a lot....

Amanda - sorry your feeling low too - must be something in the air, I feel so blah.... the house is a mess and I don't even care...

CeeCee you poor thing, it's funny how boobs can cure and pain in a bubby.

This is me, precisely... the only thing I hope to achieve today is to get Niall immunised without too much distress and to prevent Wade from destroying something irreplacable! Anything else is a bonus!

CeeCee: Hey don't worry... it probably won't psychologically damage her too much either... Verity had a few falls seems none the worse for it. Wade is a scare bear but that's just his personality. I think Niall is going to be somewhere in between.

IK: Hey I know :) One day I'm going to invite you all 'round here to see Wade in his natural habitat and then you might gain some insight LOL I also Loooove old houses and old stuff in general... I am so NOT minimalist and "modern", much to verity's dismay (she is planning to own a very modern home as a direct reaction to me I think LOL)

ETA: I've just had the foulest lunch: a packet soup (sample) that Verity found in a magazine somewhere! LOL I think I've scraped the bottom of the barrel for "budget" lunches... meanwhile DH is still probably full from last night's catered function and looking forward to his next gourmet business lunch on his corporate card... pfft... Also i found out this morning that the people I spoke to at the races earn a minimum of $750,000 p.a and one woman who I thought was particularly down-to-earth (she's from Dunnydoo sp?) ie a nice old fashioned country girl like me (LOL) well her husband earns 1.2 mil p.a!!! OMG... very inspiring actually... success doesn't always mean you have to be a bast*rd.

well i hope my story can lighten a few of your days.
I am feeling rather good at the moment, with all the rude, inconsiderate, self centred people that we seem to have to deal with, there are also some kind, considerate, helpful people out there too!
I was crossing the road today (to go to paed appoint) at the crossing. I had bag on my right shoulder, carry bags on my left & Nixon in baby bjorn. as we crossed the road my keys fell out of my pocket. as soon as this happened i turned to bend down and 3
seperate people all raced to help pick them up for me!!! I said "Thank you everyone" one lady said in a funny remark "It pays to have a baby" But i just finished crossing the rd with a smile on my face that so many strangers were willing to help.
THEN later on the way home i stopped at the supermarket & i went to bend down to grab a box on floor another lady shopping stopped me & picked them up for me!
4 strangers in one day were willing to help just because they can!
Bath/Jaspen/Amanda- i can imagine it must get tough with toddlers not listening, i kinda like the idea that CeeCee said about turning her listening ears on! i hope you all feel a bit better & your kiddies give u a bit of a break.

Nixon's appoint went well. we are going to wean Nixon off Zantac. he'll still spew regardless being on it or not so hopefully the pain assoc with it has gone so we can get off zantac. I mentioned to him that he doesnt seem "flexible" like most babies. To which he agreed. he wasnt too concerned & said prems quiet often are tighter (reason behing it NFI) but maybe to rotate his legs etc and push them till they are tight then gently go a tad further. Cause he cannot get his feet in his mouth, or sit with his legs like a froggy. We dont go back for another 3 months (previously had been seing him every 2)

oh CeeCee i bet you do feel horrible, i am sure Ally is ok. i even felt bad yesterday i gave Nixon a toy to play with and he smacked himself in the head with it & started screaming! (It was my fault i gave it to him!) but as aweful as it is (those with other kids would know all about it) Kids do stuff & hurt themselves! god imagine when they all start walking we're gonna be on here posting how many times today they had a fall and hurt themselves..... eeesshhh

Sorry to hear that many are having a down day- my SIL calls these low bio rhythem days.
I am not feeling much better really, my back is soooo sore I could happily just cry all day, but trying to make the best of it. DH has been an absolute legend, I really don't know what I would do without him sometimes- he has stepped up to the SAHM role really well today, and think that when I go back to work, he is going to be just fine at home with Tori- I have litterally spent the whole day sitting on the couch while he has done washing, done cleaning, played with the baby, made us both lunch.
Anyway I had better go, been sitting in the same spot to long and it is time for some more panadol. All I can say is lets hope tomorrow is a better day for everyone.

Oh before I go- I just wanted to say Nic that I am glad that you were touched by the kindness of strangers today- I think it is sad that we have become a society shocked by the kindness of strangers and expecting of the rudeness/ judgement from them!

Nic: I've been squinting at Nixon's top for the past 5 minutes trying to work out what it says; "I love...." please put me out of my misery... I've got to at least TRY to get on with things LOL

Speaking of listening ears - my godsons mum had a chat with his daycare carer the other day and she said "oh $%# doesn't bring his listening ears to kindy" to which my GF replied "do you know where I can find them cause he doesn't haven't them at home either" LOL

To all of us having a not so good day (or few days) - lets hope next week can be better (I'd say tomorrow but it usually takes a few days to work through the lows I find)

DS#1 is sleeping at the moment so hopefully when he wakes up our house will be a more peaceful place.

jaspen: yep.... nsw. Near Coonabarrabran I think.... they live here in Melbourne now... in a humble suburb (Clifton Hill)... they certinaly don't fit the usual profile of millionaires.

jaspen-dont worry about Benjamin doingt hat to samuel's stroller, Xander 's pulled the double pram over before, i cut my knee open on the gravel road trying to grab it. They're little sh*ts when they want to be. About the guy telling you off, i would have told him where to go-but thats just me.
Yesterday i smacked Xander in the city, as he just grabbed declans leg and bit it hard, for no reason. So i gave him a smack, not hard-he didnt cry, just looked at me. Some lady just looked at me with her mouth open, like "WTF are you doing," so i walked over, and said "Do you have a problem?" ANd she walked away. If people have a problem, thats fine, but i dont care. sorry *vent over* :)

Just been to Rugrats Retreat in Epping, good fun. it was only $5 for toddlers and u/12m free. They have a big kids and toddlers area, and we had a ball. (I think i had more fun than the kids!)
When i got home, DH called to say we're going to a 21st on the weekend (One of his schoolmates younger sisters) and its at... You guessed it, Rugrats!! You can even drink there!! It sounds like it will be a lot of fun, DH is going to drive (we are both p-platers, so cant drink at all and drive) so i can have a couple. Mine and Dh's first night out, together, since Anneliese was born :)

yeh dunedoo is between coonabarabran and mudgee (where we were prior to townsville) - being from up that way they certainly wouldn't fit the profile of most millionaires.

very quick one, Bath I grew up 36kms from Dunedoo in a little town called Coolah and went to school in Coonabarabran. I probably know the family you're talking about. As my dad was the local auto-electrician (based in coolah but worked all over including most small towns out that way) he had lot of customers in Dunedoo too. So our family got to be pretty well known / know lots of people. And just for a bit of trivia a girl I played netball with from Dunedoo now plays on the australian womens rugby union team!!

Cee cee - not sure if you read about Ryan's fall, we had one off the bed last week. The scary thing is I think I was more scared / hurt than he was. I've since had a MCHN tell me not to stress to much, they bounce ;)

And because I just skimmed I probably seem really insensitive and I'm sorry. I'm not deliberately ignoring ANYONE I've just got Mr High Maintenance this week. :)

I noticed a lot of girls are hurting themselves. For goodness sake girls, take care of yourselves. Make hubby / DP do the hard work while you sit on the couch and sip an alcoholic bevvy of your choice :) To those having down days / weeks. I can sympathise. I can't offer advice but I can offer a big fat *hug*.

Also just adding on the advise of our MCHN and GP Ryan has started solids and has taken to rice cereal like he was missing something! Not one spoonful has come back out yet. He doesn't waste one little bit! If he knew how to lick his lips, I'm sure he would! - Please do not judge me for this. I did it on medical recommendation.

Candy - glad to hear Ryan has taken to solids like a fish to water ( so to speak) sounds like my DS#1 - from the minute solids started going into his mouth at 4mths he couldn't get enough of them and not a drop was to be wasted (if only it was the same today - although in reality he is still a good eater for his age but mess no longer worries him!LOL). The only things he wouldn't eat out of home made and bought was Heinzs Lamb and Veges - don't know what it was but he never liked it. Hopefully the solids will help him along in the manner the medical practioners hope.

Hey candy, i started Xander on solids just before 4 months as he was wanting about 10 bottles of formula a day!! (if i would let him!) One we started on rice cereal (and i put some formula over softened milk arrowroot biscuits) he was a very different baby. Much more settled and happier. Some babies are ready, some arent. I know i wont be trying Anneliese until she's about 7-8 months, as although she's only 2 months (corrected age) i dont think she would have been ready until about 5-6 months anyway. Dont feel you have to defend yourself, we are all friends in her :) Glad to hear he's enjoying it sweetie :D
I have a great recipe (tried and tested) for home made baby food. Once its made you freeze it in icecubes and use it as you need it. Very handy, and very good for them. Much better than Heinz or any of those. Email me if you want it :)

Simone and Jaspen, That was the thing he was wanting to eat every 45 minutes but only eating 1/2 his bottle. Since having the solids he's completely different. Back to eating full bottles less often (and we're wasting less formula). I've been making homemade and freezing it :) He's trying his first ever carrot tonight :) any recipes you care to lob my way?

I just have to say he's so cute. he's like a baby bird with mouth hanging open as soon as he sees his spoon!!!

you're a legend Simone :) one thing I have learnt is that ryan HATES the sound of the stick blender. I used it to puree his carrot and he FREAKED!!!!

Candy my three older boys started solids at 4mths and none of them have any problems, I'm also starting to notice that Cody is starting to mouth when he sees me eating so will see how he goes over the next few weeks.

i was pretty boring - whatever we eat he gets part of ( whilst learning different tastes of course only one basic vege at a time and avoiding the nono food groups until the right age)- with backup veges frozen in ice trays or bags or bananas and plain natural yogurt as my trusty backup - we did a lot of car travelling when DS#1 first started solids though so there were also lots of tins in there as nothing else was practical

hopefully if samuel holds out long enough bananas will be back at a more reasonable price once he starts solids

which reminds me will have to track down the latest on what foods when if we don't start until 6mths - I'm purely holding off this time cause Samuels skin is highly sensitive (excema and icthiosis already) which benjamins wasn't so am concerned about him possibly having a higher risk of allergies (Samuel's a lot like his cousin skin and health wise and she has a nut allergy and other allergies) plus we are going overseas and if he's not wanting by then it would be much easier to not have to carry food and the associated trappings. Samuels also showing no interest yet unlike Benjamin who was doing the baby bird thing well before 4 months.

jaspen, I found these awesome things on ebay that are ice cube trays but each cube has it's own lid!!! so you can chuck them in the cooler bag to take with you. once the lady in the ACT selling them gets back to me, I'm getting some!!!

Candy-could you please pass on that recipe to Amanda? I wrote it out from memory, and it took me ages... Everyone's welcome to it, it tastes so good i used to eat it too!!! I buy the take and toss containers, cheapie shops have them (like here in victoria, at the Warehouse or Reject Shop) but i dont throw them away!! I just chuck a couple in there to go out with.

It certainly is Rory... and I don't want to resent it... I just want it ACKNOWLEDGED and appreciated... and I don't want to feel like I am "(betraying) my gender" (according to CJ Warren) by providing it... because it's not a huge sacrifice it's just what my family need... and my DH will happily take turns being the wife when i return to study (in part). What really annoys me are my peers who deny the role still exists... they pretend there isn't a need to be a non renumerated nuturer. There must be a hell of lot of confusion around as couples get together, have kids and look at each other saying "ok, who's going to nuture us now? Who do we pay? I don't wanna do it... society says i don't have to do it... you do it". Anyhow, as I said, i don't mind doing it but i want it's invisible need recognised and supported.

BTW Niall handled his immunisation needles very well... (put a price on that Economy: soothing one baby in pain... how much is that worth?)

I'm with you, Bath - if you choose it, why is that a betrayal to our sex? The choice is still barbed - choose to work or nurture, but if you choose to work then you need to work through the guilt and find the funds! Choose to nurture and you still need to justify yourself by what you contribute to society and still be totally undervalued - as a ROLE, not a person, but you know what I mean. I love how the Scandinavian countries give SAHM's heaps of credit, including by way of social welfare acknowledgment of what they do. Australia offers many opportunities that other countries can't, but having a family is not as rewarding as it is encouraged! Back to hanging up washing LOL

Well lets see whats happened today....oh yes how could i forget Tarleha decided that she wasn't going to bed (only just gone down) for 5 hours and at the end was sceaming and squeeling, anyone would of thought i was killing her.
Have to ring the doctor tonight and hopefully i will get the rest of my results back. I'm sick of waiting i want to know what is going on with my body.
Last night i had the biggest fright/shock in my life....the condom broke :eek: i just hope in a way my hormones are to ****ed up for me to fall pregnant.
Thanks for all the advice on the nappy rash creams i will definetly invest in some. I have Bepanthen here but it is just the ointment so will have to check the other one out.
So many choices from you girls i will have to decide which one to try first.
Simone don't wish for Anneliese to start teething to soon. It can become very frustrating and upsetting not just for them but for us mummies to as the turn into just such big sooks and there is only teething gel to try and make them feel better.
Nic i associate smoking mainly while on the phone :confused: I can't givve up talking on the phone so i will just have to try and figure something out...i don't know how sucking on chuppa chups would go while trying to speak.
Ali i totally understand the pain of putting your back out it is a regular occurence for me...hope it gets better quickly for you. I must admit my back has gotten worse since having Tarleha.
Neeny i am glad to hear that Aleise is getting better with her wheezing must be such a big relief for you. Yeah my friend enjoys hurting people i think...what if one found out about another??? I agree that she is being a sleep around and she comes running to me and is all upset when someone has called her a **** or something else along those lines...it doesn't matter what i tell her she is always right!!
I had the same thing happen the other night (except it was boobies) when i put Tee in the bath with me she looked at my private parts and then looked at her own and had this confused look on her face i actually found it quite amusing
Oh and tell you MIL that if she wants something like that for that price she can but it herself!
Jess i have just recently (couple of months ago) signed up for mystery shopping it will be interesting when and if and what i could get assigned. Great to hear that Patrick is smiling and laughing at every one. Tarleha is like that and it just puts a big smile on my face when she does it.

I started Tarleha on solids when she was 3.5mnths due to medical condition plus she was pulling food off my plate and eating it so she was definately ready.
Bathsheba glad to hear that Niall's immunisations went well i have that to look forward to on Friday...and i can't offer a boob to help settle her :crying:

Well, I've bought more coloured terry nappies (I was going to anyway, but Kmart only had coloured terries left so I couldn't also get the white ones, bugger it!), and I found snappis there, too. My mission now is to obtain a bucket load of nappy covers, but also I'm going to see about making some - I was on the Weewuns website and they have patterns for sale, might see about getting that, as well as some super dooper fleece they have for sale, too. I love Oscar's bum in coloured nappies!
I've gone blank and there were some personals I was going to do. I'm a bit tired, so I might not fight it and get myself to bed...right after I've had a bit of a look in eBay...

No personals this morning guys, Between Xander getting up to go for wees (first night in jocks) Declan falling out of bed (second night out of his cot) and Anneliese waking up (growth spurt, constantly feeding) i can barely see straight, let alone think up things to write. I will lurk and post as the day goes on :)

Hiya Simone, sounds like Xander did well not wetting the bed though? Wade can only manage day time naps with out a nappy although once I forgot to put one on him at night and he woke up dry! But I wouldn't risk it too often just yet... though it won't be long... maybe when summer really sets in and washing sheets every day is a bit more managable.

Well I'm feeling more positive today... had a great sleep... Niall slept from 7.30pm to 3.20am! I woke up for his feed feeling quite alert and rested.... so did DH who joked that he could almost go to work and finish early at 2pm LOL Niall had a temperature from his needles but he was sooo calm about it... he just fed, had a bit of a look around then drifted back off to sleep. I didn't even need to give him Panadol... I'd estimate his temp was about 38/39'C and I planned to give him Panadol if he became unsettled but he didn't so that's one less dose his little kidney's have to process. He is almost back to normal now.

I've been wandering around the house singing "one mess at a time, sweet jesus" don't know if many of you will recognise the tune to "one day at a time" LOL but it's kinda cheering me up... this place is a total pig stye! Looking forward to hanging the clothes out though...

better get on with it... Hope your DH wasn't too late home Nic...

actually he didnt get in until 4.20am thismorning. i woke when he came to bed but surprisingly i had a pretty good sleep b4 that.
Nixon slept the whole night without even having to go in and fix him up. (since being in the big cot he seems to wake up & need help but easily settled)
so DH is still sleeping now. i accidently woke him about an hr ago when i was cleaning the kitchen bench, moved something and this spider came running out! i screamed like a baby "ahhhh spider, spider Trent get the spider!"
i found a smaller one a few days ago and was telling him i wanna get the house sprayed.
hehe i laughed after i did it but with the smaller one i grabbed half a roll of dunny paper to catch it with and had the quickest hand movement from squishing to toilet to flushing!!
