Well it's very quite in here today everyone must be busy. Mel glad your DH is home what a nice surprise for Chelsea this morning waking up and finding daddy home. Well I'm going to go and fold my mountain of washing and hang out some more, it's quite hot here today after a few days of mild weather. Be back later.
hugs xoxo

Morning all.
Amanda - Chelsea was very excited when DH finally woke up!!! He is still tired and he is back on night shift tonight. I hate folding washing, I don't mind washing it and putting it out but folding and putting away drives me nuts!!! Happy folding LOL!!!
Not much planned for today - just a quiet one. Do some more washing (that's all I seem to do lately) and chill for the day. DH may take Chelsea out to movies - she won't leave him alone at the moment.
Enjoy the day everyone!

Hi all
Well I"ve spent ages trying to catch up... also put Aleise down in her cot and trying to get her to have her morning nap - she's been skipping those lately.
Bath: Mosquito plug ins are great and work wonders! We have flyscreens in our house though so we don't need them anymore.
Mel: Thanks for recipe - will subs flour for cornflour or g/f flour as I'm gluten intolerant.
Nic: Try using Johnson & Johnson or Curash baby wipes on Nixon's butt. Aleise gets a rash from everything else so I have to use them and take them to daycare for them to use on her too.
Fires: It just gets from bad to worse for Vic - but we've had an Arsonist at work again here in Brissie - 3 schools hit in 24 hours! Pretty bad! The little S**ts should be locked up!
Well I must dash - gotta pick mum up and do some errands. Catch you all again soon.
-
Good morning girls :) Just back from the village where I posted more Chrissy cards... IK: I Love mouth and foot artist's work and also had some of their cards a few years ago... I'm a huge fan of self taught artists and the naive style in general.... reminds me of my own artwork before I went to uni and they mucked around with my perceptions and techniques... not always for the best... this is why I'm keen to become an art teacher: so that I can help children preserve their own style and individual way of seeing things, not overlay the way I see things onto them which is what most art teachers tend to do sadly.
Amanda: How do you feel about his teachers? Do you have faith in them? Has Kailen had a good start to his schooling? Has he developed a good rapport with them? There are so many reasons why a child doesn't do well "on paper" at school. Does he socialise well with the other kids? I know from personal experience and through observation that if a child's mind is occupied with trying to sort out social problems either with teachers or other students then this can impact on his ability to relax in class and enjoy the learning process. I was teased at school for wearing glasses and having very short curly hair (not a good combination in the 70's) and even though I loved learning I was constantly preoccupied with why kids teased me and how to ask the teacher for help without attracting more attention to myself. If all's well in Kailen's world in that regard maybe there is something else he has been preoccupied with? All I can suggest is to make sure home is a "soft place to fall" (Dr. Phil LOL) and he will feel supported enough to reveal himself why he isn't achieving his potential. Unfortuantly though sometimes you at the mercy of how good a teacher is. Verity has a hearing issue that wasn't detected until grade 5... we didn't recognise it at home, and all her previous teachers simply labelled her as easily distracted... it wasn't until she had a highly experienced (older) teacher who observed her more closely and began to suspect a hearing problem that something was done. DH and I actually didn't beleive this teacher when she first mentioned it either! It wasn't until the teacher asked us if Verity did a certain range of things that we followed her advice and had her hearing professionally tested and were amazed how significant the problem was. Anyhow, these are just some aspects of how Verity's learning has been affected... I hope Kailen has a good teacher next year! Let us know how he goes :)
Just gotta help Wade start off a jigsaw... he likes me to help with the edge bits then he likes to fill it in by himself... back soon.
-
Amanda - what she said! Bath's points are well worth heeding, why didn't I think of this? I was distracted by ruthless teasing at school, too, and I never brought home magnificent marks for anything but spelling...and teachers steered clear of the teasing thing for parent-teacher things, just kept telling my parents that I had potential but wouldn't concentrate...well, that's hard when you're 10 and you're getting teased for things you can't help (my underarm hairs grew early, BIG thing when you're 10, and I also had wiry hair, was skinny and brown...perfect recipe for sticking out like a sore thumb!). Anyway, teachers are much more aware of kids' social interactions at school these days, so put yourself out there, get in contact with the teachers and they'll appreciate your extra interest (so many parents send kids to school and expect the school to 'fix' their kids by themselves).
Well, DP got a pager message for more crews...but as they didn't even mention a destination, DP is wary of committing himself to something for which no detail is immediately available! Plus, he will work tomorrow and get some money. If his work was regular he'd probably go, but he's doing cash jobs as they arise and work comes first.
Mel - DH's clothes must stink of smoke! At least he got some action up there!
CC - are those mozzie plugs those pest repellants? Aldi had some for $25, work on small bugs to mice. I know you can get some with stronger pulses for bigger animals like rats and possums, but they don't recommend those if you have cats and small dogs! You can use the ones with ultrasonic waves and then there's another type that I can't think of offhand, so they are safe for people, they just scare away unwanted visitors of the insect variety :) I know that I have been tempted to get a couple of these (they recommend more than one and depends on layout and size of house), as we get mozzies of varying sizes - tiny ones that get through the flyscreens in the bedrooms, and huge ones that are obviously coming in through the customised door that Odin created out of our screen door...
I've won some terry nappies so have to find an excuse to drive to North Warrandyte to collect them...have friends in Croydon, work friends in Ringwood, DP's cousins in Wattle Glen...could organise a visit and a detour for the nappies! They are extra absorbent and I'll take them to NZ and leave them for my sister after we've used them there. Need some more though, will get some coloured ones to leave with her.
Ok, off to do some things while the boy sleeps....like have a shower!
-
Bath and IK thanks for that, he does have a hearing problem and has since he was about 18mths old but the audiologists didn't listen to me until about November last year and thats when he went on the waiting list for the op to get grommets in and his adeniods out, but as you know that didn't happen until October this year. He has problems trying to distingish (sp) between w, v and b's, but his teacher has said that since the op she can tell that his hearing has improved, he's also been getting extra help, which will continue next year and up till he is at the level he should be. I'm just worried that if he gets kept down at the end of next year that he will be teased, it's bad enough as it is cause he has red hair and freckles and he's already told me that some of the kids tease him about his freckles and I know how bad that is cause I was the same. I was also teased at school as I was an early bloomer, I got my periods at 11 and had 14c boobs as well as I wasn't allowed to shave my legs until I was 12 and I had really black hairs on my legs not fun at all. I suppose I'll see how he goes in the first term then decide from there. Thanks for your input.
hugs xoxo

You're on top of it, Amanda :) You have been doing all you can - he's lucky to have you know what's happening for him at school! All's you can do is be his cheersquad, and as Bath said, make home the place he knows he is accepted no matter what. It's nice to be accepted at school, too, but failing that, you can get him involved in something extra-curricular that he's good at. To have people outside of school like and appreciate you is important. At least, with my other activities, I knew that people liked me and I wasn't 'untouchable', even if the mean kids at school didn't want to play with me. You certainly are not to blame for his grades - he needs to build up his confidence, and all you can do is show him how, but you can't do it for him. And if he does get kept down, jump up and down about it till they change their minds! New research is showing that keeping kids down in primary school does not benefit children, too, so you might want to follow this angle.
-
Thanks IK that's the thing he loves school and I don't want him to hate going there. Where abouts did you read about the new research that you mentioned I wouldn't mind looking at it. The thing that was mentioned on his report card was that he liked building stuff, I know he loves doing that, he's a very hands on which I've know. He loves when I read to him so this holidays I'm going to take him to the library and get his own card so that he can start borrowing books and I can help him with his reading.
hugs xoxo
-
I heard it on a report on the ABC, but for the life of me I can't remember what program it was, or if it was Radio National. I remember DP commenting on it, because he was kept down in primary school, too, because of some learning thing that was never convincingly diagnosed. What I will do is do a search on my uni library database that I still have access to ;)
-
Amanda: Does Kailen's school have the Bounce Back (anti-bullying) program? Or the C.a.t.c.h program? What is the school policy? This is really important. Until relatively recently many teachers and parents have had the attitude that kids should be left alone to sort it out themselves but that doesn't work. Teachers need to be vigilant to not just obvious bullying but subtle undercurrents and nip it in the bud before it negativley impacts on student's learning. it is their responsibility but unfortunatly too many teachers turn a blind eye and justify it by saying they are too busy and that there are too many students etc etc. Also too many parent tell their bullied children to "toughen up" instead of sitting down, sharing thought and feelings and empowering them. This doesn't mean show them how to retaliate... it's more subtle than that... confident kids that know they are loved and supported at home generally don't become targets. Now I'm not saying that you don't love Kailen... what you might simply need to do is take more opportunites to chat about why the bullies have problems. Verity is often bullied by this girl who says shocking things (swears) and I've mused with verity that perhaps this girl swears at Verity is because that's how she is spoken to at home... this was a revelation to verity who now almost feels sorry for this girl. Now I suspect verity has gone to school and simply looked at this girl in a new way and maybe something unspoken has occured between them... because she hasn't mentioned as many verbal attacks from this girls since I had that chat with her. Verity of course hasn't said anything about our talk... but these are the kinds of tools and insight we need to give our kids. Children's emotions and ability to reflect on behaviours are often more sophisticated than we give them credit for.
Ok...Verity home now.... better have a debrief :) Apparently there were lots of tears...
ETA: yes! IK is right... keeping children back isn't recommended... Verity's school rarely does it unless there is an age issue (if they are borderline) and even then do it VERY reluctantly.
-
Amanda - Bath has some great advice. Going to the library sounds like a great idea. I have been meaning to do it with Chelsea for ages. Reading is something most kids love so keep encouraging his love of it.
Bath - did you find out the source of the tears? Hope it was nothing major. What sort of jigsaws does Wade like? Would like to get Chelsea some but not sure which ones are best.
IK - everything smelt like smoke! I have been washing his stuff today, luckily he didn't take much. Did DP end up going anywhere? Did you go and get your nappies?
Had a fairly quiet day which was nice. DH took Chelsea to the park and they flew the kite - good day for kite flying. He has headed off to his work xmas party and then straight to work for nightshift so won't see him until tomorrow afternoon.
How was everyone elses day?
Off to get Chelsea ready for bed, back later!
-
Amanda- get ready cause THIRD WATCH starts up again at 8.30pm whoo hoo!!
had a good day, got up the shops first thing to get to the camera shop to look for Nixons santa pic, low and behold they were there!! then went into toy kingdom just tohave a look and whilst there noticed Nixon's sandle was gone, back tracked the shop but no shoe... i gave them my name and no JIC, then back tracked through the shopping centre..... anyway luckily they rang me later to say they found it!
so now i have to get up there AGAIN 1st thing to get the dam shoe!! for someone who wanted to avoid the shops in december i think this will be my 5th time in 2 weeks.
anyway gotta get Nix ready for bed.
-
Nic - Third Watch was great. I have only watched it on and off over the years, but tonights episode was great. So glad you found your photos, saves you having to do them again. Lucky you got Nixon shoe back. It happened to me a couple of years ago at Ikea in Richmond - Chelsea lost a shoe, but I never found it! I was so annoyed as they were relatively new! Make sure you get to the shops early, they are getting so busy! I have to go and buy a birthday present for my GF daughter, not looking forward to that!
-
Jeepers, again I miss a day and there are pages to catch up on!! Hi all!
Amanda, hope Kailen works things out at school:confused: and Jess - hope the cooler weather is making you smile!!!
Gotta be quick cause all of a sudden I have heaps of "work" work to do, hence the early hour of this post!!! Update here is not much - life is rumbling on ahead to chrissy. I look forward to lurking and hearing about everyone's progress:)
-
Honestly, I have had enough of the cool weather!!!!!!!! The smoke has covered us for 3 days and it's awful.
What do you guys think of this. All sporting events have been cancelled because of the smoke,BUT the school kids still have to go swimming.
Gotta go to a bloody PSG meeting with Jack's teacher so I'll talk later.
-
Good morning :)
Well today is the first day of school holidays. Verity wasn't in tears... the first thing she said when she walked in the door yesterday was "OMG all my friends were in tears today! AND some of the teachers!!!" hehe, sometimes her theatrics drive me crazy other times it's quite funny... she said she did cry a little bit when her favourite teacher from yr5 couldn't take the microphone at assembly because she was crying too much (she is leaving the school to be a specialist teacher at another school). Later she got on MSN chat and reported that some of her friends on there were still crying! I guess this is something that happens at a girls only school... mass emotion unhindered!
Mel: before I forget: Jigsaws: best brand: Ravensburger. Absolutely top quality and range from simple 20 piece puzzles up through to adult ones. The pieces are nice and thick and non-reflective... I find them more durable than other brands and we've got about 40 of them as DH loves doing jigsaws too and BIL always gives us one for Christmas which we do over the summer. Also, since you have Marley coming along you might want to invest in a good qulaity wooden one. When I worked at a ELC this particular style of puzzle was very popular in the 3 and 4yo rooms. I'm sure you have seen them around... one is a huge rainbow alligator that also has the alphabet printed on each piece to help children work out which order to do the puzzle (it would be quite challenging to do otherwize!). I'll see if I can find the product online and send you a link. The alligator costs about $60 but believe me its indestructible! lasted 5 years at an ELC so it doesn't get any heavier usagewise than that! I think jigsaws are an excellent learning tool as well... they teach so many concepts from memory to spatial awareness and fine motor skills as well as counting (when you first take it out you can "check" to see if all the pieces are there with a child)... as well as teaching the sublties of colour and shape. Anyhow Wade just loves doing them, does one or two almost daily.
Niall awake... back later...
ETA: whoops! Our posts were simultaneous again Jess! Sorry... I'll reply when I get back!
-
Jess: what's up with swimming? Too cold? is the pool heated? It must be outdoors... do any of your kids have asthma? Good luck at the teacher's meeting, maybe you can get something positive out of it? What's PSG again?
Wade needs me now...
-
Well my sore throat has now turned into laryngitis, can't talk very loud and the kids are taking full advantage of it, been naughty or out of my vocal range and they think it's hilarious (sp). Cody looks at me and is most probably thinking you look like mum and you smell like mum but you don't sound like mum, lol.
Nic how good was Third Watch, that poor boy. I'm glad you got your photos back, now you just have to get his shoe, lol. You'll have to make sure that nothing gets left behind this time ;).
Jess sorry to hear that the smoke has cancelled the sports events.
I've got to do a vege platter for Kailen's break up party tomrrow any sugeestions on what to put on it, so far I'm going to put carrot and celery on it but don't know what else, I need ideas.
Gonna go for now I'm pooped, cause Wyatt was up all night and this morning said that his mouth was sore so I'm guessing I've passed it on to him great.
hugs xoxo
-
Morning everyone! Smoke is absolutely terrible here, really thick and quite smelly!
Rory - hope you gets lots of work done today so you can relax a bit.
Bath - thanks for the name of the puzzle. Sounds great. If you do find the link, let me know. Is Verity starting high school next year?
Jess - the smoke here is bad so it must be doubley bad your way. Good luck at the meeting.
Amanda - bummer about your throat. Cheeky kids, they know how to play the system LOL!!!! I watched Third Watch last night and it was great. I don't often watch it but will be after last night. Can you also put on your veg platter, sundried tomatoes, olives, marinated artichokes etc (if the platter is for adults, maybe kids wouldn't eat this stuff but mine does!!!). Or you could put some dip and biscuits. Hope you feel energized soon.
IK - I can't see you this morning - the hills are covered in smoke and I can't even see the towers. How is it your way?
Simone - where are you? Haven't heard from you in a while.
Another quiet day. Chelsea at kinder and I've done my housework. I am going to chat with my GF on messenger soon so looking forward to chatting to her. It has been snowing for days where she is - hard to imagine after us having such stinking hot weather!
Everyone have a good day.:)
-
Hello,
went and picked up Nixon's show today lol! But just b4 we were getting reading to go Nixon did a "Blaster Poo" and pooed all on our bed and my pillow ewwwww.... i didnt realise at first and had a cloth nappy (spew rag) next to him, when i grabbed it to pack in his bag i saw poo on it, so went back to him and it was everywhere......
I was going to wash our sheets today anyway but i guess he thought it was his way of making sure i did! It was grose all down his leg, we havent had an exploding nappy like that since he was a little baby.
its very smokey here too, i didnt want to hang the sheets outside so threw them in the dryer.
Mel- where is your girlfriend? Canada/America? i ahd an email from one of my mates thismorning he & his gf have been travelling canada/america for 18months and he sends the most wikeed snow shots i get very jelous!
Amanda- is there anything you can take for laryngitis?? i hope it gets better soon
Jess- is the swimming pool indoor or outdoor? if its outdoor that seems rediculous all other sports are cancelled but indoor might not be so bad.
Bath- are alot of Verity's friends going to different schools? i can understand them being upset if they are, if they are going to the same school they only have to miss each other for school hols!
-
Back from the Ivanhoe Shops... covered Niall's pram with a thick cotton throw so he didn't breathe the fetid smokey air. Bought some EcoBots because they were on special and almost the same price as Aldi nappies... I can't get to Aldi and am running a bit short and if this smoke continues or gets worse I might have to stop washing nappies for a little while.
Mel & Nic: yep, Verity is going into high school next year but her school is from 3yo ELC - year 12. About half a dozen girls are going to other high schools... some have received scholarships into MLC for example. They were also crying because the whole Junior school is quite connected... girls happily play and mix with girls in other levels... the grade 6 girls have "buddies" in grade 1 too and chat to them in the play ground... so even though the senior school is right next door that part of their lives will change. They also had a church service where special songs and prayers were sang to the departing grade 6 girls so apparently that was a real tear jerker. Also, next year when they enter year 7 there will be over 50 new girls so the grade population will double.... meaning new friendships will be made and current ones might end... the tears were all about the unknown.
Ok... better get the kids another snack... we had nori hand rolls at the shops but they'll need a bit more. Amanda: I agree with Mel, my kids eat all that kinda stuff (antipasta)... Wade would polish off a bottle of olives if given half the chance! You could also add some bread sticks, they go nicely on a vegie platter.
ETA: And just to add to the hectic pace of the season Verity and I are currently organising her birthday party (a trip to Hoyts at Greensborough).. one good thing is that most of her friends go away for the holidays so it only leaves a few of them left meaning that her parties don't blow the budget. Looks like she wants to see Flushed Away (rated G) so that's reasonable.... her grade went to see Charlotte's Web recently and they all liked the look of Flushed Away during the shorts. Her birthday falls on a Saturday so DH will stay at home with the boys while we catch the train up.... I'm quite looking forward to it and because I'm not going to be "precious" about seeing this movie I won't mind the girls giggling all through it :)
-
Nic - LOL about the blaster poo!!! They are so disgusting and formula fed babies have the most foul smelling poo and its green!!!! At least you will have nice fresh sheet when you get into bed tonight. My GF is in Ohio, only recently moved their with her DH. They have just bought a beautiful house so she is very excited. She is pregnant with bub #2, due in May, so I told her to jump on BB! She has joined some forums in the US and has some "playdates" organised as her DS is 15 months old. She is a wondeful girl and I am sure will make friends easily. Hope you didn't lose anything else today LOL!!!
Bath - I can understand the tears! Leaving friends you have had for a long time must be hard, esp their little grade 1 buddies. I remember starting high school and it was quiet daunting and scary. At least she is at the same school, so should make the transition a bit easier. Hopefully she will get to make some lovely new friends next year. Chelsea took green olives to her creche xmas party and was quite offended when no one else wanted to eat them LOL!!!
Smoke is getting worse now. Not sure what to do with all my washing as some stuff can't go in the dryer!
-
Yeah it is getting worse isn't it!? I thought it was just me... when I went to the shops it looked worse in the lower suburbs and in the city... I think IK said smoke sinks? So if it's this bad up here in Eaglemont I'd hate to think how bad it's in lower areas... I'm just folding nappies and washing ATM... debating what to do with a load I washed this morning... too stingy to use the drier... might just put them on a rack. Oh and I meant to congratulate Nixon on at least doing his blaster on a sheet that needed washing :) good lad! Also, as Niall has reached 6 months I decided to offer him an organic rusk and see how he went. Well he had a good chew, he was upright in his highchair. Wade was having them at the same age according to his calendar. Might try a bit of rice cereal for the first time this evening, mixed with EBM. I'm sure he'll enjoy it... but if not doesn't matter, will try again tomorrow. As I said I'm not keen to push the matter as the novelty wore off with my other two but it's probably not good to delay matters either... I'll take some piccys of his first feed and post them tomorrow.
-
Happy 6 mths Niall, yeah we love sun dried tomatoes but I don't know about the other kids there so may just stick to the basics. It was funny cause the kids got to pick what they wanted to bring and I'm so proud that Kailen chose something healthy, what a good boy.
Lol Nic at blaster poo, I don't think that there is anything that I can take for laryngitis will just have to wait til it passes.
hugs xoxo
-
Oh sorry Bath, Happy 6 months Niall! let us know how he takes to the rice cerial, look forward to some pics!
Nixon sure is having a big nap, after fighting to get him to sleep for almost an hour (thinking he prob wasnt quiet ready when i started) he has been alseep for 2.5hrs so far!
-
HAPPY 6mths NIALL  ! Sorry Bath, totally forgot before! Hope he enjoys his rice cereal tonight. Tried Marley on some Monday and she pulled the worst face, will post it when I get a chance. Can't wait to see Niall's reaction. I am still debating what to do with my washing, it'll be dry in the basket before I make up my mind!!
Amanda - well done to Kailen, its nice to see kids choosing something healthy.
Nic - well done Nixon, enjoy the peace and quiet for a while and put your feet up.
My ebay items just finished selling and I made $125!!! Very happy. Comes in handy this time of year.
Now must tend to the washing!!!!!
-
Hey don't worry about the 6 month congrats... I forgot a heap recently myself... no biggie ;)
Just placed an order for some more In-Liven and a few sample sizes of their skin care and cosmetics range. I can't afford to keep buying Clinique products and I've got faith in this Aussie company. Their samples are only a dollar each too! I'm getting hooked on receiving stuff in the mail! I hope their foundation is good... that would be huge saving and less chemicals. So between MooGoo and Mi-Essence I hope to have all my health and beauty needs covered at a fraction of what I've been paying all my life and supporting Aussie industry!
Mel: I ended up hanging my load on the line... I'll see how it goes... if it smells bad i won't do it again.
ETA: I'm going to Extra Effort and cooking a fish curry using rockling, cauliflower, coconut milk, etc... DH loves it and deserves a reward for scoring a huge deal at work today... oh and Rory: I finally got around to finding and reading your Dh's reply to the BB members query in Men's chatter... two words: "keep him" ;)
-
Well, I've been lurking, just no time to post! Most Christmas cards are sent, the ones left just need addresses to be supplied and they'll be off...
I had the ABA group Christmas party for the kids today and that was nice. Sunday is the dinner for the mummies with a KK, can't wait!
My myotherapy appt was a loss today. I even got there early so that Oscar could go back to sleep (as he hadn't slept much at all today after waking at 9.30), but no go. He was screaming from tiredness but wouldn't drop off. So, I've made another appt for next week and I hope DP can have him then.
Anyway, the Christmas decoration bags are in and I'm dotting them around the house, in lieu of a tree.
I also had a MCHN appt this arvo and all is well. She was impressed with Oscar's mobility...more than I am, but we know that my enthusiasm about this is not high! He has cracked 8kg by a little bit - not quite 8 and a half - so I would have been right when I turned his seat around. Not only was he developmentally ready for more stimulation, he was also the recommended weight for it, too.
Mel - I'm up here somewhere! The smoke is thicker than it was on the weekend, I reckon. But then, more of the state has burnt since then, so that's gonna happen! DP is on strike team standby for tomorrow. Turns out no-one from our brigade paid much attention to the call for a crew yesterday...wonder why!
Bath - I would find it so confronting to have my child graduate from primary school, you are handling it very well! I hope Niall takes to food well, too. The smoke thing I figure from the fact that a slight haze sits higher up in the atmosphere. It's so thick lately that I can only deduce that it's sinking because the higher layers are full already! Plus, the thermal dynamics around hilly areas can push smoke down, as well as warm air. I dont' know exactly how this works, but I am familiar with the yummy thermals I walk through on cool nights when I go look for my horse in his paddock!
Tomorrow I'm hanging out locally, with a mothers group catch up in a cafe in the village. Must remember to contact the pet shop about our dog food supply while we are away!
Oh, yeah, and Oscar is making some great sounds! I'd rather he put his energies into saying 'mama' than all this mobility business!
OK, off again to get Oscar to sleep, hopefully, and to organise dinner and these decorations...
-
Bath - let me know what the products are like. Cosmetics and skin care is so expensive, so if they are good and Aussie made, I would give them a go. I hung mine out too, they were starting to dry quickly. I have a new washing machine which spins them almost dry, so need to get them out in a hurry. Your fish curry sounds beautiful. I love fish, but DH can't stand it, so I only cook it when he is not around. I love salmon and used to tell Chelsea it was "pink chicken" so she would eat it. Now she loves it and knows its fish. Must be the night for curry, I made a beautiful veg curry with roasted pumpkin, carrot, brocolli and chickpeas.
IK - wondered where you had gotten too. Glad you had fun at your xmas party and your Sunday dinner should be good. Where are you going? Well done Oscar for growing well, he will probably enjoy the view with his seat turned around. New things to look at. Still can't see the hills, wish the smoke would blow away!
-
Hiya IK... yeah I was wondering where you were too, racking my seive of a memory trying to work out if you had something on... yay for a thriving Oscar! So is he starting to make consonant sounds? Niall is making some new ones too... thought I heard a "dadada" this morning, it's usually made before "mamama" and every mum under the sun get's miffed even though the child is waaay too young to put meaning to the sound. "M" sounds are one of the last to be formed and when you make the "m" sound yourself you can work out that it take a bit of extra effort compared to "da" ... Niall is here beside me in the port-a-cot going "ahhhh yahhh errr squeal ah ya ah" etc. this time next year all our lil' darlings will have a language all of their own that only we will be able to decipher! I'll have to consult Wade's calendar to remind myself of some of his early words. Verity's first word (said with meaning) was "juice".... bit ashamed of that, I gave her way too much of the stuff, totally unnecessary... with Wade I stayed with water and defined juice as a treat food... I'm taking this even one step further with Niall and delaying anything sweet for much longer... they don't need it... the mantra "what they don't know about they won't miss" is a good one. Don't want to start a debate though... I'm not about to criticise mums who give juice... it's just what i'm choosing to do... and seeing as though Wade's teeth are perfect compared to Verity who had caries at the same age i reckon I feel ok about what I'm doing. But who can resist the sight of a child's eyes lighting up when they get a treat? LOL
Ok... bedtime for Wade... hope I see some more Junies checking in tonight... Simone? Dee? Karen? Ali? everyone else...miss you!

I'm here, just been really busy today.
1. The PSG (ParentSupportGroup) meeting went very quick, it was basically telling me that Jack's Social Skills level is really bad(as if I didn't know!) and giving the teachers some ideas on how to try and boost some of the worst areas, such as facial expression and eye contact.
2. The local pool is outdoors and absolutely freezing of a daytime. Even in the summer. We have been trying to get an indoor pool in this town for 15 years but the Council have always voted against it. All sports competitions in town(if outdoor) have been cancelled due to the smoke. They are worried bout their players getting smoke inhalation so they have cancelled them until the smoke clears.
3. The smoke here hasn't cleared all day and it is supposed to be worse tomorrow.Keeping the kids inside or minising their exposure to the smoke has been working so far.
Amanda- I know what having larangitis is like, awful isn't it! Try the eucalyptis and honey lozenges, they are really good.
Nic- Blaster Poos are great aren't they! Bella did one this morning and I didn't realise until we were shopping!
Bath- I have another 2 years before Jack graduates Yr6 and I am not looking forward to it. My kids have their graduation mass next Wed. night so they are busy planning for it.Happy 6 mths Niall.
I'm thinking about starting Body Shop up. My aunt and I love their products so just seeing if there would be any interest.

Quick one only - whoa Jess - just saw your thread in the medical conditions - shingles!!! You poor love!!
Got lots done today - yoga, mothers group, cleaned house (sort of!) and did 3 hours of work work.
BTW - spoke to Simone tonight - she is on dial up and can't post much but is going well.

Ok it's really, really quite in here today. Well as of last night Cody has learnt to sit up by himself, my little man isn't so little any more *sniff*. I'll go and look around and then lurk for a while. Hope everyone is having a good day.
hugs xoxo

Argh, Amanda! Sitting up! Our kids are getting away from us! I am more than happy for Oscar to take his time with sitting up...from there he will go straight to standing, as this is the only missing link that he hasn't figured out yet (that whole, I'm doing everything else, I just need to get these hands off the floor)...kids, take your time, for mummy's sake!
Also, did you get my email with the article? I felt like I was studying again, using my database search skills! As I only took an intermission, I still have access to the student-only database section of the uni library online, so it took me back...gotta get ready for next Feb, anyway!
We were naughty - just DTD and left Oscar to explore the corridor at the other end of the house... He can keep himself occupied for a while between his B1 and B2 and those window envelopes that crunch ever so nicely in his little hands!
I've made a haircut appointment for tomorrow, and I'll need to organise a XXX wax for before we go. Next week Aldi has their version of the epilady with underarm attachment for $40, girls, so mark that in your diary...I'm allowed to get one!!
Ok, off to make more bookings...one of them being Oscar's 6 month shots...

Sorry IK I kept forgeting to let you know that I got them, how rude of me *will not forget, will not forget*.
I got a call from the child care centre that I had put Lockies name down for and I have to go in tomrrow to do his whole admission, yay, he will be going Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays so I will be able to go to the shops with just two kids.
hugs xoxo

Bath- i like your saying on your ticker,,, its so true.
How did Niall go with the rice cerial last night?
I gave Nixon a finger of vegemite toast at lunch to try and he loved it! he didnt even screw his face up, enjoyed sucking on it and squishing it in his fingers... He's gonna be a little vegemite kid like his mummy i still love the stuff.
The last 2 nights Nixon has rolled in his cot and started crying for mummy to come turn him back around.....
Ive been busy cleaning the house today, we have interstate visitors tomorrow for the w/e and then i am leaving to go to Sydney on Sunday arvo with them (booked same flight so would be a bit easier travelling!) DH wont come up until 22nd.
IK- i hope oscare goes ok with his needles.
Amanda- thats great u got Lauchlan in day care & can have some time with Wyatt & Cody and get stuff done. Wow on Cody sitting! Nixon is getting closer to but doesnt last long before he slumps forward and falls sideways
-
Amanda - it is very quiet today! Where is everyone???? Great news about Lockie and daycare. I would go nuts if Chelsea wasn't in care a couple of days a week, I can get so much stuff done!!! Can't believe Cody is sitting up, thats fantastic. Marley is just like a little blob, she doesn't move anywhere LOL!!! Not that I am complaining at the moment. How's your throat today, any better?
IK - you naughty girl!!! Nah, good one you for finding the time, I have hardly seen my DH so no chance of any naughtiness in this house LOL!!! 6 month shots, I've got mine next Tues at the council run sessions. Hope Oscar is a brave boy.
Nic - vegimite is the best, couldn't have my toast in the morning without anything else. Glad Nixon likes it and no screwed up face, well done! How long are you in Sydney for?
Battled the shops this morning, but didn't use the pram, just the baby bjorn and it was heaps easier to get around. Myer has 25% of kids clothes until Sunday! They had Esprit tshirts in a catalogue in yesterdays paper for $9.95, then less 25%! They hardly had any left so bought a couple for presents and one for Chelsea and Marley. Great bargain. They had lots of other cute things, but I refrained and bought the birthday present for Sunday and some more xmas presents. Off to start posting my ebay stuff, 3 people have paid already and it only finished yesterday afternoon!
Hope everyone is having a good day. :)

Thank God Wade is napping! Until about an hour ago they were all just being feral. I'm a fairly patient kinda person... but my oh my oh my! I kept very calm when DH rang for our lunchtime chat... and was rewarded with a promise of an early return home this evening :) He's been making best use of a quiet time at work and making hay while the sun shines so to speak (ie getting all the time consuming adminy jobs out of the way before he goes on holidays soon... and before all his clients return from theirs with their usual bright ideas which they need money for!)
Niall's first feed: didn't happen yesterday because i never got the chance... waited for Dh to come home but the kids were harder to settle for the night and by the time that was done Niall had fallen asleep and didn't wake until 3am. So it happened today... I just bit the bullet and told myself that if i waited for a quiet moment to give him his first feed then the poor little guy would starve!!! So he had runny rice cereal with EBM and admist the chaos loved every minute of it! He actually grabbed the spoon as it was making it's first approach and shoved it into his mouth as if to say "c'mon c'mon what are you waiting for???" The stuff slopped everywhere and Verity was wanting to be involved and Wade was jumping up and down wanting some too and OMG! *phew* As I said I have a perfectionist streak that was serverely challenged but I made a conscious effort just to go with the flow... I'll give Niall another feed when DH gets home.
Nic: I asked Mod Sarah H if I could use this quote under my ticker... she had it for a while but culled it when the new signature guidelines came in... I had a spare line so added it... yeah, i think it's great. I always have to remind DH to give people the benefit of the doubt, mainly when he drives... he'll curse and mutter about other drivers but I'll take the time to observe that, for example, the woman in the red car ahead who has just cut him off has 2 baby seats in the back... who knows: she might have screaming twins to contend with! poor woman... so it applies to everyone I reckon... before people get p1ssed off with strangers they should stop and think what extenuating circumstances might be going on.
back later...
ETA: email just arrived saying that fires have arrived on the outskirts of my relatives township of Cowwarr... they have evacuated to Sale as they have 2 young children. My uncles have stayed to help the CFA where needed... they are fit healthy specimens who follow instructions well so they should be safe *praying*

I am still here Bath,I have been having a little time out from it all but still been lurking , taking in everyones progress.
I can't believe that is was just 6 months ago we were all giving birth and now all these babies are sitting, starting solids, cutting teeth and trying to crawl........where does the time go?
Tori is roaring along, she has 2 teeth the second one just came through today so she is a little grumpy and out of sorts. She is sitting now and trying so hard to crawl, she gets up on her hands and knees and rocks back and forwards she is not to sure what do once she is up there.
Tori is now on bottles, i am pretty proud of myself I lasted 5 months with breastfeeding, which is great considering I didnt want to do it at all to start with. We have offered solids but she is not really to interested will take a couple of spoonfuls and then doesnt want anymore- not fussed, she will take more when she is ready.
Bath- I was reading about Verity finishing junior school, it must be unreal to realise that your first baby is getting all grown up. I keep trying to imagine to what Tori will be like at that age.
Amanda- I was reading what you were saying about Kailen and his report, from experience boys often start to flourish at the end of year 2 beginning of year 3, all of a sudden it is like a light bulb switching on. I have been teaching that age group for the last 3 year so if you want some ideas of stuff you can do with him at home over the holidays drop me an email and I will send you some stuff.
I am a bit dejected on the whole job front, I need to go back to work a couple of days a week next year and there just seems to be no jobs around, the school I was at this year told me they would have a job for me and then they told me that they didnt. It is so frustrating I spent 4 years at uni to get my degree, and I think I am pretty good at what I do yet, it is near impossible to find a permenant job. Relief teacihng is fine but a little hard to drop everything and go to work when you have a baby to organise. I guess I will just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope something comes up in the new year.
Anyway I had better go, a big hello to everyone, it is so good to hear that everyone and there precious babies are doing well.
Only 11 sleeps to christmas............wooooohoooooo
