LOL Sim, I've thought of the first thing you should get rid of in your decluttering!!
Try again with telling your mum - you can't afford to be fatalistic about this. The only thing that isn't meant to happen is for you to put up with the 'quality' of life you have right now
Forgot to say - the Oscar bear is speed crawling and also climbing on things to stand up. He loves that he can get himself upright and tries taking away one hand at a time until he falls over. He has been getting into everything (you know that phone book monster muncher? He's one of those, he loves to climb the phone books, then suck on the pages...YOU try stopping him!) and banging himself...a LOT! It's a learning curve, I can't wrap him in cotton wool, so we get a wail now and again to let us know that he has found a hard surface. He's learning the stairs thing now. Everytime he gets the hang of a motor skill, he doesn't like to just use it for a while, it's 'next step' right away and he just has to start trying the progression. It's driving me nuts, but he is so doggone happy about it. I've come to terms with the mobility part, but the rate of progression is still causing me grief. What 6 month old is already pulling themselves up to standing and toying with balance/standing issues? I tells ya what, none in my circle of friends' babies. Their babies were saying words when this was happening, so it's weird to have a wordless baby doing these things! My little freaky baby bear...At least he is still content being carted around in the Ergo...
OK, gonna go again, for real...after I catch up on the Age headlines!
-
Simone - my girls both love sleeping in which can be handy sometimes (but not all the time!). Once I go back to work, things will change, they will be up early. I agree with Ik, try telling your mum again. Its important they know whats going on - particularly as they are so far away.
IK - so glad to hear from you. Sounds like you guys are having a wonderful adventure together. I can't believe Oscar's new found skills - he'll be running soon LOL!!! You are so right about letting him go, they find their limits soon enough and a few bumps and falls is not going to do him any harm - its how they learn. He sounds like he is enjoying his array of food. At least when you get back bananas are cheaper. I got them for $2.99kg and they were nice small ones, perfect for kids. Keep enjoying yourself and look forward to having you back in Oz on Saturday.
Been at IL's swimming again this afternoon. Can't get Chelsea out of the pool, she really carries on when its time to go home. Got GP appointment for Marley tomorrow at 10.30am - hopefully some relief for her itching!
-
Hiya Junies... this has got to be a quickie... Nickel: fantastic to see you back in here where you belong :) Mel: Wade occassionally gets through the night with a dry nappy... with Verity we just waited until she consistently got through the night with a dry nappy then changed to undies, she didn't have more than one or two accidents... I agree with the drinks avoidance thing but make sure they have extra drinks earlier in the day especially in this hot weather. Sore Nipples: mine's still very sore... stopped wearing a bra when i can so the wound doesn't stick to anything... smaller boob is continuing to compensate but it's taking longer than I thought to even them up. IK: I also chew food like bananas for Niall instead of using a food processor or fork... I put it on a little spoon though but if I didn't have a spoon i wouldn't hesitate to MTM. I'd say the enzymes in our spit would also help to digest it for them. Great to hear from you!
gotta go... all kids still awake... so hot... full moon has been giving us all insomnia too! Looking forward to life settling down... miss you all!
ETA: also Niall has had a case of Roseola Infantum... Verity had it when she was 6 months old too....very very common at this age... once they get the rash they feel better, the fever is the most dangerous part of it... he's on the mend now... not that he really suffered... it was good to finally know what was going on though.
-
thanks for all your warm welcomes and hellos! Much appreciated, a bit like dropping back in to a cafe or pub where everyone knows you!
Mel - chelsea sounds like she's ready to toilet train herself given that she doesn't want to wear nappies. Same as everyone else re. drinks before bed. We started toilet training at 2.5 years, it took a good four to six months of loads of wetting herself, and she was still wetting herself at four. She is now 4.5 and we rarely get accidents unless she is distracted or watching telly and procrastinating about going to loo!
IK - Oscar is amazing, I can't believe how active he sounds! He is very advanced in his gross motor skills, but you can't blame him, look at how strong and active his mummy is (have you been back to horse riding yet?)
Nic - can I join you in the biggest loser club? I've put on 2kg from Ruby that I really should lose (lost everything from Giorgia) but it doesn't help that I'm short PLUS - don't you hate the muffin top? or is that just me because it's my second baby??
-
Bath - so good to hear from you, things aren't the same in here without you. Thansk for the advice re TT, one of those things that takes a bit of time. Is the thing Niall had sometimes called "slap face" (sounds terrible)? I have heard of it but not sure exactly what it is. Glad to hear he is OK. Hope you all sleep well tonight - its going to be warm.
Nickel - I just realised that in my previous post I called your DD Lucy! Sorry, it should be Ruby? I hate making a mistake with kids names. Thanks also for the TT advice - it is just frustrating changing all the bed linen etc in the middle of the night, but I suppose it has to be done. LOL about the muffin top!!! I never had one until after Marley and I wonder if it will ever go away - I am sure we can all inspire each other to get fit and healthy this year.
I found a really good absorbent pad you can lay on the top sheet and if they wet the bed it draws it won't seep onto the sheets. It comes from Lorraine Lea Linen party plan - does anyone know if you can purchase direct as I don't want a party!
It is still so hot outside and Melb junies are in for a few hot days. Sleep well everyone!
-
quick one from me to say hello - MIL is here and I am catching up with Simone today for a coffee - gonna tell her what a good person she is!
Nickel - we should call this place "Cheers" - sing with me girls : sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name...... :)
-
Rory give Simone a big hug from me and tell her I'm thinking of her. Be back later boys are been feral.
hugs xoxo
-
Good morning :)
Disgusting heat... Verity and I are off to MC today to see a movie (A Night At The Museum) and shop for her sport shoes. DH doesn't mind the heat so much so is happy to stay at home with the boys.
Mel: awww that's sweet of you to miss me :) Good luck with the TT, let us know if you find about buying that sheet protector direct. I have a protector that my mother got from when she worked with the elderly... it draws moisture away from the person but doesn't protect the mattress much if it's a big accident (meant to be used in conjunction with a plastic covered mattress) but it's nice and thick and made of wool and easy to clean... helps with small accidents... nicer than lying on plastic.
Roseola: No, it's not Slap Cheek, thankgod... but its a virus that ends with a rash of tiny red spots on the torso. A lot of parent's freak and think it's measles but the rash is different and it's not as dangerous... and not really as contagious because the victim doesn't generally have a cough or other symptoms... maybe an earache apparently but Niall didn't seem in pain at all. He's over it completely now. I didn't even take him to the doctors because he only had a high temp at nights (by the time I decided it was time to see a doctor he had cooled down and was happy as Larry)... then the spots followed a few days after the temp and I knew what it was and that the worst was over. He'll be immune from the virus for life now. No further complications were indicated in my medical text so I'll just mention that he had it at his next MCHN checkup.
better go make his MCHN appointment now...
oh and I won't be on tomorrow: a tradesman is coming to fix a window/install laundry shelves/build a gate for our kitchen and we're off to the beach... probably Cape Patterson.
Also: I keep forgetting to congratulate Sim on her cigarette avoidance! I received your sms darl... but a few days after you sent it... fantastic work! Sooo proud of you!!!!
-
Hi all, just a flyin visit- pretty busy here atm.
I went back to work yesterday and I am also working today, just nice short 10:30-3 shifts. Tori spent yesterday and is spending today with my Mum, she was really good and didnt seem to bothered that I wasnt there.
Bath- I think that Tori might have had the same thing Niall's got, I freaked and thought that it was German Measles, but I have just been reading up on Roseola and the symptoms sound very similar to what she had.
Nickel- Great to see you back, I think coming into a place like this where everyone knows you is like sitting in a big comfy couch.
ANyway I had better go, I didnt realise quite how organised you had to be to get yourself and someone else ready for a day at work, plus we are staying at mum and dad's tonight for dinner coz its my birthday so I neede to remember bath stuff and pj's for Tori. I hope everyone has agreat day, catch you all soon.
-
Happy birthday Ali I hope that you have a great day and enjoy dinner at your parents tonight.
Bath and Ali Cody had Rosela a month or so ago, and I was one that thought it was measles as well but it wasn't and his rash disappered within 24 hrs so that was good news.
Well I had both Wyatt and Lockie up at 4:30am this morning throwing up and then Wyatt did it again at about 5 then 8, so he's only getting little sips of water for now. I hate when they have tummy bugs cause they don't understand that you can't give them anything to eat or they will be sick again.
IK glad to hear that your having such a great time.
Jess hope your going well today, I'm thinking of you.
hugs to all.
hugs xoxo
-
Rory - give Simone big hugs from me. Enjoy your coffee.
Bath - enjoy the movie, it looks great. My DH wants to see it too! At least you will be nice and cool in the theatre. Take care down the beach. Glad Niall is better and it wasn't slap cheek - at least I know what it is now.
Ali - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, have a lovely day and dinner with your family. Going back to work for the first time is tricky but you will have it down pat in no time. I was late to work a few times, but luckily my work is very family friendly and didn't mind! We had a strict routine in the morning so it worked well. Great hours too. Tori will really enjoy her time with your mum.
Amanda - poor you and the kids, hopefully the others don't get it and it doesn't last long.
Took Marley to GP and he thinks she has atopic eczema, which she would have been born with. He doesn't think it has anything to do with allergies (thank god!) and has prescribed some very low level cortisone cream. We apply very sparingly twice a day for 10 days and it should improve if not disappear. He thinks it may even clear up in a few days. We can then use the cream if and when it flares again. But to keep skin moist with sorbolene too. Good news all around. I hope it works.
Off to shops to buy 4 yo birthday present, then off to IL's for swim. Hope everyone is staying cool today!
-
Hey ladies
Had a good day with Rory, she gave me a couple of bottle of wine... She's not joking when she says she has too much LOL!! We were talking about having a wine party instead of a ****tail party, and just having nibblies and desserts?? I would love to have another meet up soon... Rory volunteered her place - newly renovated, balcony with great view... (I love your place Rory :)) Went pumpkin patch shopping :D
Anyway, off to try and cool off, and have to kill these flying buzzing around before they lay anything ewwwwww...
-
Simone - I am up for a catch up, anytime, anyplace so count me in! I went shopping too today, just Chelsea and I. I love Cotton On Kids, they have such good bargains and most stuff is 50% off or more. Got a gorgeous pair of cargo shorts and a singlet top (with lots of bling on it!) for $15! Also bought a top for Chelsea $7.50 and a top for my friends 1 yo only $5. Got Marley a rash vest from Kmart and some of the bonds singlet suits. I hate normal singlets - as soon as you pick them up, they ride up their back. DH has taken Chelsea swimming at IL place. We were supposed to go over earlier, and all 4 of us go, but MIL had visitors so we weren't allowed to go over, WTF!!!! So Marley and I miss out as she was really tired and needed to go to bed. Oh well, a little bit of quite time and surfing BB now instead. Hope you can cool off and kill your buzzing menaces! :D
-
just a quick one as just got back to folks place today but a HUGE HELLO TO NICKEL... I had thought of you often and remember your kind jester of leanding me maternity clothes once.. I always thought that was just the sweatest thing and that you must be such a wonderful person, so I'm so happy to see you back. I'm sorry that you feel a little ...blah... but I'm sure you know that we all feel like that at some stage which is why we are all here! Ruby is a beautiful name.
Mel - have not forgotten your requst to ask my friend what she used on her kids skin - I just am not back in Sydney for another two weeks, i will ask her when I get back.. hope marley skin gets better soon.
hi to everyone else, look forward to catching up soon
HI IK: my girlfriend from baby yoga has a 6 of June baby who crawls already and loves to stand - I have not seen her for 3 weeks so perhaps she is also as active as Oscar, but we all think it is pretty special and unusual.
Here: in the last week Ally has learn to roll from back to front (finally), blow rasberries, take her own weight and go "her, her, her" whenever she sees the horses... very cute - she has grown up so much in the last two weeks it has been amazing!!!!!!!!!!
-
Hello ladies, sorry to but in but its James, Jess has had a bad reaction to the general and probably wont be on for a couple of days....She is laying in bed pretty sore and cant move much.....she is thinking of everyone.
Jess will talk to everyone later
-
Jess, thinking of you hun... gett better quickly!!
-
Just a hot quiet day for me here, apparently MIL is coming to take anneliese out today, i would like to know how, as she doesnt have a baby car seat!! Just feeling lonely :( dont know why, i should be taking advantage of the peace and quiet, might have a glass of wine (thanks rory!!) Would that make me an alco??
-
Jess - thinking of you, hope you feel better soon. Take it easy.
Simone - its so hot outside! We all slept well but I have no motivation today! Will go for a swim later at IL's place. Enjoy the quiet time you have, chill and read a mag or head to the shops, its much more fun with no kids!!! Take you time, browse, have lunch. Make the most of it. Save the wine for tonight LOL!! Have we decided on a date to catch up?
-
-
What about a day next week. If Rory is happy to have us, DH is on holidays all of next week, so I could leave Chelsea with him. Any day except Wed is cool with me!
-
Ummm... sounds great with me!! We were talking about everyone bringing some munchies, and rory's got the drinks :)
-
I think we can all manage that. Hope everyone can come!
-
(for those that don't know, rory is in glenroy...)
-
Still just sitting around, just signed DH up to the bb marketplace... we've decided to start a new business... watch out for it!! you'll love it!!
-
Oh, rory, is the above re: your house all ok with you??
-
absolutely!!!! any night/day next week suits me except thursday night!!!!
-
Pity its short notice, tonight would be a nice night, when it cools down... out on the balcony sipping cool wine, cant wait until next week now!!
OK, wed and thurs out. Maybe fri or sat?? JIC of hangovers, majority of DH's will be off on the weekend...
So who's in?? I'll do a list...

BTW nic, i love that pic of nixon on his ticker. He's a littl spunk!!
-
bubs are most welcome :)
I am flyladying - my MIL (who is really messy) keeps warning me not to burn myself out - LOL!!! Anyone who has seen how flylady works knows this is EXACTLY what it is designed to avoid!
-
I'm still here ladies just trying to find a spot that isn't sore....still groggy and feel like I'm drunk!
I'll pass on the wine night though....too hard to get down and back.
BBL..KFC for dinner tonight
-
LOL Rory, she seemed like a pretty tidy person yesterday... At least you have a babysitter for flynn while you get stuck in, you only have to stop for bf's!!
jess, just make sure you take it easy, make james work his butt of for once!!
-
Friday during the day is good for me and I will bring only one child (that's enough!!!).
Jess - so glad to hear you are back on. Did the op go well? Take it easy and let the others look after you.
Nic - love the new pics, esp like the one with the saxophone. Nixon is just so cute and I just love those reindeer ears!!! Hopefully you make it to Rory's - would love to meet you in person before you head back to Sydney.
Rory - thanks for offering your house to us. You should start your own flylady business LOL!!! How is the menu planning going?
Just got back from IL's after swimming all afternoon. Marley went for her first swim in the pool (we have a little swim seat for her) and apart from her freaking out at the start (its not a heated pool), she really loved it. She was laying back with her head on the side cushion. I have some photos which I will upload soon. Having bbq chicken and salad for dinner, too hot for anything else!!
-
I wanted to buy a BBQ chicken for dinner, but i think everyone else will have the same idea and there'll be no chicken left by the time i get to the shops...
If everyone else is bringing babies, i may bring anneliese.... or i may just come and relax and play with everyone else's bubs!!
-
i remember Bath said she wouldnt be online today, cant remember how come.
Are we talking Friday day or Friday night? i just remembered my premmie Hugs programs goes back next friday but thats 10-12 so should be fine.
-
LoveMyGirls - re. your MIL - totally WTF?? Oh well sounded like Marley needed the rest, and it is nice to be able to surf the inet.
My girls are Ruby (TheStar) and Giorgia (lucylu). Don't worry about getting the names wrong, my blog is called "The Star met Lucy" after their nicknames!
BTW - I really like the name Marley, it's a bit different, but really cute! How do people react? Also, I really hope it's not more serious eczma (sp?) - my friends' little boy has it and he scratches himself red raw and only 9 months old.
RoryRory - you are such good value. BTW I wish I was in Melbourne! Views, wine...lucky simone!! and others! Is Melbourne really a long way from Sydney...wish I could fly over simone! I try to flylady too, but I seem to only get around to it every 5 weeks and keep ending up in the kitchen!
Simone - My next door neighbour says anytime after 11am is a good time for a glass or two. She is an AWESOME mother of 3 of the most beautiful girls, so go for it! I love to have a break from my girls, but miss the baby when she's not here. You kinda get used to them being around all the time.
Cee_Cee99 - Thankyou! all you girls are making me feel great! I thought you were having a girl? and did you end up with any probs after all? (sorry to ask if it's painful)
Nickers - Nixon is sooo cute! Such a cute happy chubba cheeks hey? So it seems all the premmie stuff got sorted for him! He looks awesome, and very healthy and happy. I loved the reindeer ears too!
Ok - feeling a lot better, I did lose my job today (one of them)- thought I might. I haven't really been on top of things since ruby's birth and they had lost confidence in me a bit. Anyway wasn't an acrimonious ending (I think that's what I mean?) I mean it ended fine, so a few weeks to hand over. I'm kind of sad, cause no one likes to lose confidence, but glad too cause it was a bit too stressful and the cause of lots of blah.
So now just got to not be stressed re. finance, except I just became a BB lifetime member!! Oh well!
Will be selling lots of things on ebay and in the market place here so have a look every now and then!
Guys - seriously, you've helped a lot over the past few days with all your enthusiastic hellos!:heartbeat: I feel a bit special, thankyou. so anyway, off to have a drink (!) I had to buy the bottle because it's called "jagos" which is my maiden name (and Ruby's middle name too!)
Anyone in Sydney for a meetup??!!??
-
Hey Nickel - MIL is a little strange sometimes. I get lots of comments about Marleys name, mostly nice comments. Some people ask me if I named her after Bob Marley WTF!! No, I didn't. I really loved the movie "Children of a Lesser God" which started Marley Maitlin. It stayed with me for ages. When we considered girls names with first pregnancy, Marley was on the list as was Georgia, Chelsea and Layla. We chose Chelsea. Second pregnancy I was convinced I was having a boy, so only really picked boys names. Got the shock of my life when out came a girl!!! Both DH and I thought of Marley straight away - so thank you for the lovley comment. I have always like Georgia and I really like your spelling of it. Marley's eczema has been so good today. The cream is working wonders, no redness at all today. She is still scratching at her head, she has cradle cap too! That is getting better, but its something that never really goes away. I feel so sorry for your friends little boy, it must be awful seeing him scratch himself so bad. Has she got him on any cream or medication? Re your job, could be a blessing in disguise. It might help you de-stress a bit. Jobs can be stressful and affect so many other aspects of your life. I sell lots of stuff on ebay to make extra cash, its fantastic. Glad to hear we have helped you feel better about yourself, thats what I love about the junies, such a wonderful supportive group of women! Go enjoy your wine and have a glass for me! :D
Nickers - Bath had tradesman coming today so her and the family were going to Cape Patterson. Hope she had lots of fun and kept cool!
-
Oh this heat is totally foul.... wish I was still at Eagle's Nest beach (near Cape Patterson)... it was a bit hot when we first arrived and the flies were shocking but the longer we were there the nicer it got, even the flies subsided. Wade saw a beach for the first time! Hehe... he was so funny... almost scared at first but running around in circles at the water's edge squealing with delight in the end... I had to keep him from charging in up to his waist! Still, the first time a wave crashed into his face he freaked out... I really ought to have gotten him used to water much earlier on... bad mummy... I dunk Niall's head under the shower every night (inspired by IK and Oscar's water familiaraity lessons)... so at least he wont be as timid. We all got sunburnt behind our knees and have had an oatmeal bath and I've applied aloe vera cream as well... we missed a few spots on Niall's arms too and they are bright red! Lucky he had his MCHN checkup this morning before we left, otherwise I would have received a lecture about applying sunscreen thickly... I tried to but it rubbed in clear and I just couldn't tell i'd missed a bit... plus he spent most of the time asleep under an overhanging bush that I thought was quite shady... shows that you've got to be so careful! Oh and we returned home to a new sturdy gate in the kitchen and fantastic shelves in the laundry... I did a little dance with excitement LOL funny how these things have given me such joy...geeze, anything to make my daily grind a little easier! Wade was most put out regarding the gate but he took a shine to the tradesman who's name is Bob and Wade calles "Bob the Builder" LOL so I said "Bob said be a good boy and don't try to climb the gate" which had added effect LOL
Melbourne Junie MeetUp: if it's during the day I might be able to catch a train up with Verity and the boys... Friday would be good... Thankyou soooo much Rory for providing a venue :) I'll bring some chocolate hazelnut brownies (with a dash of Frangelico) if that's appropriate? It would travel reasonably well I think.
Good grief ...sweat is trickling down between my bust :( I thought we were meant to have a storm this week?
Jess: Hope you are feeling better and that you found somewhere nice and cool to recouperate.
Gonna top up the ice in my drink... back a little later after a feed.... oh and my nipple wound has healed significantly over the past day... i can attach again without pain... but I'm reeeally towey about it!
ETA: just been to BOM site... min temp overnight expected to be 25'C... time to get day beds with old fashioned mozzie nets for the verander... or maybe we should just catch up with the 21st century and buy a portable air con system.
-
ARe we during the meet during the day or at night?? If it were during the day i would have not drink, as i would have the car and Anneliese and i hav to pick the boys and DH up.
Back to bed for me, personals later... didnt sleep much last night. Not coping very well with this heat... neither are the kids, especially Declan...
-
Morning girls - how did we all sleep? Simone, hope little Decca is feeling better today - I think it is expected to cool down soon.
Bath, I love the Cape Patterson area! And glad your shelves made you happy - I had a similar reaction when I bought plastic containers and organised my built-in robe. As you said, "anything to make my daily grind a little easier" LOL!!!
Mel, I love Marley too - but I reckon you should tell people she is named after Bob Marley just for a laugh. Tell them you are a Rastafarian (sp?) and see what their reaction is (PML!!)
Jess, hope you are feeling better soon - we are all thinking of you:grouphug:
Nickel, glad you are feeling loved  Where were you working? Gosh is has been so long since we first did our introductions I have forgotten what we all did in our "past lives" (pre baby!!) Maybe like Mel said it will be a blessing in disguise? On the finance thing - I have started to realise that I really need to pull our belts in - there has been more money going out than coming in for a few months and I am about to pick up another day of work this month, but I keep lamenting how much $$$ I have wasted over the past few years. Still, it is amazing how you live up to your income - when DH and I were both working I bought stuff without a thought, but now I find myself getting really frugal.
Still, I wonder whether being a cheapskate can actually be a fun challenge rather than a complete PITA? Have you guys heard of the San Franciso Compact? A group of mates in SanFran, USA decided to not buy anything for one year - they only were allowed to buy food and esentials (socks and jocks, toothpaste, etc), but everything else (clothes, car parts, mobile phones, books) has to be borrwed, made, repaired, bought second hand or traded. Sounds like an interesting challenge, hey? There is a blogspot site where they keep a journal. I think I am going to give it a try (only bummer is I just broke my stapler and being a cheapie it is not repairable) but I might make an exception for birthday presents (maybe one way to release my inner hunter-gatherer?). The people who started it didn't make any exceptions, though, and after a year of telling their friends about their "no-buy policy" were given Christmas pressies like donations in their name or "a day of culture" (one woman's sister gave her this - and spent the day going to galleries with her).
So maybe it is all a matter of persepctive? Kind of like weight loss - I have got real gung-ho on getting fit rather than losing weight, and it has made all the difference (but the scales will tell in time, no doubt!)
Better get going girls - gotta de-junk some more stuff (I am loving this decluttering - hope DH doesn't sit still at his desk too long or I might throw him out too!!!) and have brekky.
luv yas all.......
