Tanz - are you b/f or f/f your bub. Either way, the girls are right, 6months before solids. I think in the UK, its 4months, and we, depending on how Aiden is going, may start him on Farex at 4months. At 6 months, even if you are exclusively b/f, i think you still need to start introducing solids.
Well, i have had a tough few days. I got mastistis, and, once i had it diagonised, i realised that i have had it before as well. So, i have decided to wean. Not that i really had much of a choice in one way, as they are so sore, i cant express anyway. I had a little cry yesterday, (lots of big crys in pain) but, a little cry, as i said sorry to my little man for not being able to do it anymore. I am so scared that when it clears up, if i keep expressing, I will get it again, and i never want to go thru that pain again. It was and still is horrendous.
I think Aiden had a little growth spurt as well, but, with the reflux, it was abit hard to tell what exactly was upsetting him. The last few days thou, he has settled down nicely again, and once more, my good little boy.
While we are planning on more kids, and having them close together, i have gone on the mini pill, perhaps just till christmas.
Hope you guys are all doign well, mums & bubs, and that you enjoyed your fathers day!

Debbbie you poor thing. Sounds painful. Don't feel guilty about ff, you have given Aiden a great start to life. Which formula are you using? I was using Karicare but he was in pain most nights with wind and only went to the toilet every 2 days and took about half an hour to push the poo out. Anyway I switched to Nan 1 HA gold (didn't want to use nestle but had to) and he has been brilliant ever since. No moaning in pain and goes every day for a poo. So if Aiden has problems in that department I highly recommend the HA Gold!
I think his solid sleeping last week was part of a change in routine, as he is now back to catnapping every few hours in the day whereas a few weeks ago he wasn't sleeping at all! So that's good news for me!
He is 9 weeks today, how fast does the time go?!
-
Debbie - you poor thing.. mastitis is dreadful. Keep giving good bb massages i the shower to help prevent it again ... big hugs
and i think we can def say BFN's for me - i did anothe HPT and it was negative. I think my body must b just all over the place adjusting to post-partum life. We will prob try as soon as AF returns... whenever that might be!
We had a long night last night too - ashley woke every 2-3 hours after midnight hungry...
-
Sarah - his first lot of formula was karicare gold, then, he went to karicare gold plus - and thats when the reflux got diagonised, and i sometimes wonder if it was related. now he is on novalac for reflux, but, want to try him on something else, and something more easily available. But, its hard to change formulas, as, i hate the idea of buying something, only to discover its no good, and then its such a waste of money. but, what choice do we have?

princessmya  better luck next time.

hi everyone
I'm new here - my DS Jackson was born on the 27th June
we have got through the first 2 months OMG and he has just started sleeping from 11pm through til 6-7am how exciting - i'm not walking around like a zombie anymore
Jackson has just started getting cradle cap - anyone hav any ideas on how to make it look less unsightly???? the early childhood nurse recommended pure olive oil but its not seeming to do much
anyway hi everyone - I'm looking forward to reading and getting to know you all
cheers
Mel and Jackson
-
hi mel & Jackson!!
Do you putyour bub to bed at 11pm - ie keep day routine till then or does he go to bed earlier??
thanks debbie btw *hug*
-
hi again
jackson is having short (half hour-hour) cat naps from about midday onwards he also will only have short 5-15 minute feeds as well - he usually will show lots of tired signs around 10 so i give him a feed then a quick nappy change and he'll fall asleep having a cuddle with me or his daddy around 11ish and then its into his basinette as quietly as possible and he has to be wrapped really tightly as well
i'm not too worried about his wide awakeness during the day as i'd rather him sleep thru the night - it does mean sore boobs first thing in the morning tho - and i've had problems with oversupply of milk right from day 1
where in australia is everyone - i'm in sydney lidcombe

Hi,
Mel - Lewis has cradle cap too. I use sweet almond oil before he goes to sleep then when he wakes up I brush it out and re apply some oil again. Also after his bath I give it a good rub with the towel. It looks horrible doesn't it. He;s had it for just under a week now and it does seem to be going a bit. (I'm in Rosebery by the way).
Well after posting this morning to say he was back to catnapping, Lewis slept pretty much all day again! He had a 3 hour sleep this afternoon. So I'm hoping it doesn't impact on his sleep tonight. He slept from 8pm-5am last night for the first time!

Hi all
Been off line for a while and just had a quick browse of the posts - wow!
PrincessMya - I commend you as I certainly couldn't do it - try for another bub at this point. I know I couldn't cope, but that's fantastic that you're trying and best of luck with it all.
Debbie - sorry to hear about the mastitis. I know HEAPS of people who have swapped to formula due to mastitis. Cherish the fact that you started Aiden off really well with b/f. I too have started the mini pill, but still too nervous to DTD. Sounds really dumb and doc told me 3 weeks ago that we really should DTD due to scar tissue.....but.......will have to make an effort in the next day or too.
Mel - Welcome. Tell us about your bundle Jackson, stats at birth, now....
Been teaching Brianna to self settle over the past week with some success. If I catch her in the early stages showing tired signs I can get her wrapped, into bed and asleep without a cry. She gurgles herself to sleep. Otherwise I put her down, sing a lullaby and pat her chest / stroke her head and she doesn't usually cry - just slight protest. If she cries I pick her up, settle her until calm then do the whole process again. She has had some really good sleeps (3 hours during the day) but sometimes wakes after 1 sleep cycle and I repeat the process again and she usually goes down for another 45min sleep. Yay......so much more managable than catnaps......and Brianna is SOOOOOOOO much happier as she's getting the sleep she obviously needed!
Went to gym yesterday and felt fantastic. Left Brianna with gym creche for an hour and felt terrible about it. The whole hour I wanted to run down and see ow she was going.....She was fine......Just me being a worry wart.
Hope everyone had a great fathers day. Ours was fab....MIL and FIL came to stay (they are great....more like parents than in laws) and DH and I had a couple of 1/2 hour breaks to ourselves. Wonderful.
-
Debbie - you are such a great mum! Don't feel any guilt!! You're doing what's best for you and your little man. I think I am of the thought process that as long as mum and little one are happy, that's the ultimate goal - however you get there. I have a friend at the moment who is also in the process of weaning but because for some reason, her milk supply won't kick in so little one isn't gaining weight without being ff.......bit emotional for her as well but the best for them both. for you lovely!!
Princessmya - okeedokee then!! Hurling sticky baby vibes at you!! :p
Well DD has her days beautiful and her nights almost there!! Am still averaging between 5-6hours of sleep myself so not too bad - must admit though, am hanging for that uninterrupted 8hour sleep.................LOL!!!!! (tell 'er she's dream'en!!!! :cryinglaugh:)
DD has got the self settling thing down fabulously!! She knows when it's bedtime and can be so happy until I take her into her room and she starts to protest. Well!! Has she got a pair of lungs on her!! :D I wrap her, tell her in her ear that it's time for bed and I love her very much but she's not a big girl like her big sister so she can't stay up (), tuck her in, kiss her again and not 3 minutes after walking out, she's asleep!! Woohoo!! Even after her super poos at the most inconvenient time of 5am (!!) I'll tuck her back in and say that I'll see her at 6.30am and within minutes she's asleep again........
...definitely completely different to DD#1!!! But I am loving feeling like a normal, in the flow of life again, mum and wifey! Could do without the multiple outfit changes for DD as her explosive poos are ridiculous!! (5 times in one day!! Sheesh!!) Almost cut a singlet off the other day rather than trying to work out how to get it over her head without dragging the poo that had shot right up inside of it, up her back!! Noice!!
Hope you all had lovely father's days as well!! Hope you are all pampering yourselves amongst being the super mums that you are!!
Off for a feed and then a cup of tea and a read of the new IKEA catalogue......
MWA!!
P.S. Hope you're doing well Celsie!! Haven't heard from you in a while. Chat soon! xx

Wow Charlyfrog, you have the routine down to a tee. would you mind coming round and sorting Lewis out!
He's not too bad actually, he sleeps from 7pm-about 1 or 2 am and then for another few hours, but I would love a straight 6 hours sleep myself! Am hoping he drops the 1am feed soon enough.
I thought we had it bad with his poo's STINKING the unit out due to his formula, but at least it's only once a day!
He had his injections today and was such a good boy, he only cried for about 10 seconds bless him.
I'm at that stage where I just fall in love with him more and more each day:heartbeat::heartbeat: You know when you have to stop yourself from squeezing their cheeks !
Have added some new photos to his gallery if anyone wants a look.

Hi everyone
Mumoflewis - Yay on Lewis handling his injections well. Isn't it a relief to get them done. Your photos are gorgeous btw. :)
Charlyfrog - Woo hoo on getting DD to self settle. That is fantastic. I am trying something similar with Diana, i.e. whispering in her ear and telling her it is time to go to sleep and putting her in her bed. It is mostly working. She doesn't sleep through the night yet though. Your 5-6 hours sleep sounds like bliss. I feel lucky when I get 4!
Nell - good on you for going to the gym. I have been meaning to go back to doing yoga (I had to stop during pregnancy and haven't been back yet ), but have not managed to do so yet as I don't know how well I would be able to concentrate on the exercies rather than worrying about where Diana was and what she was doing, etc.
Mel - Are you from NZ? I live in Sydney in the Redfern/Surry Hills area, but am originally from Wellington.
Debbie - sorry to hear about your mastitis. Ouch. Hope you're feeling better now and that Aiden is doing well too.
Prinessmya - best of luck on trying for another bub. You're braver than me! DF is already talking about us having another one. I told him - sure, if you carry it and deliver it this time, lol.
Tanz - welcome to you and Ava. As Debbie said, I think 6 months is a good time to start introducing solids.
Teepee - hope you and Mikayla re doing well.
I feel like I haven't posted for ages... Diana is still doing well. She is 11 weeks old and this week she has been sleeping a lot during the day (probably not much than usual) but has been eating less than usual. Has anyone else experienced this? She seems content and hasn't got any symptoms of being unwell. Perhaps she is resting up in time for her three month growth spurt? Should I be worried?
-
Starfish - That is exactly what Lewis has been doing for the last week. He falls asleep whilst feeding and only drinks about half a bottle, then sleeps straightaway and when he wakes I end up feeding him again and he will drink a bit more, but then sleep again!
I rang Tresillian last week as it was really starting to worry me, but she didn't shed much light. She said maybe he has an infection, but like you said when he is awake he is fine and still smiling etc. And he still has wet nappies etc so I don't feel that he is ill. Trouble is the last 3 nigths he has been up 3 times in the night so I feel it is messing with his routine.
I would love to know what it is, if it was a growth spurt wouldn't he be drinking more not less? And it has been over a week now.

Hi ladies.
Wow alots been happening in here!
Sarah Lewis is just gorgeous. I cant believe how different he looks - maybe its the thinned out hair :D He looked so tiny in the first lot of photos and now he's getting so big!!
Charly I envy your persistence in getting DD to self settle. I havent even been able to get Mikayla into her cot yet let alone leaving her there to fall asleep on her own. I really must get onto that!!!!
Welcome to Tanz, Mel & their bubs - look forward to hearing all about your little ones.
Well we went to see the paed last Tuesday and Mikayla had only put on 60 grams in 2 weeks :( He asked me to waker her every 3 hours for a feed to try and help her gain some weight. I have to go back this coming Tuesday and if she still hasnt put on a substantial amount of weight he said we might have to start adding a calorie suppliment to her formula. She now weighs 4.76kg and is 58cm long. She seems content enough to me and she definitely isnt skin & bones but the paed said he'd ideally like her to gain at least 25% more weight.
As for her hips - we've got another ultrasound in 5 weeks before finding out whether any treatment is necessary.
She's screaming her little lungs out so I have to go but will try to BBL. Take care xx

hi everyone
well another week has already flown by and now Jackson is 10 weeks old
I had to take him to the GP on Wednesday cos he has been a great vomiter since birth and on Tuesday he just went crazy - wasn't keeping anything down (or thats what it felt like) and he was coughing and gagging on the breast at every feed - i gave him some baby panadol but he just coughed it straight back up - our lovely GP let me bawl my eyes out to her and told me she thinks he has a mild cold as his temp was raised a bit and he has a very congested nose - got him some saline nose drops and he is a new child - feeding well and happy YAY - still vomiting a lot which the GP said is prob reflux and won't give him anything for it until I see the paed in a couple of weeks time
Starfish - yeah we are from NZ been in Sydney nearly 2 years
Jackson was 2.84 kg born and 51cm long - I had a reasonable labour - 2 panadeine was my only pain relief!! ( i was going to have all the pain relief I could get! didn't work out like that tho) waters broke at 5am and Jackson was born at 3pm
he is now just over 5kg and about 57cm long so growing like a weed as his grandma says - just started sleeping from 11pm til 7am but now just catnapping all day - if I'm about and doing things he has to know what I'm doing
hope everyone has had a good week
better go as he is getting a bit antsy in his rocker
Luv Mel and Jackson
-
Teepee - FYI the midwife at the early childhood clinic told me they like them to put on about 30g per day at his age. I'm sure Mikayla will be happy that she doesn't put weight on easily in about 18 years time!!
Mel - Sounds like Jackson is thriving as he has nearly doubled his weight. Funny how they all even out whatever their birth weight isn't it. Lewis was born 4.085kg but is now 5.7kg. Good job he hasn't doubled in weight!!
Has everyone had their AF back yet? I haven't yet but do have pains now and again so sure it won't be long. How long does it generally take?
-
Sarah I got AF last week. I'm not one to usually get period pains but this was the heaviest I've ever had (apart from postnatal bleed). I was so sore and felt crappy but apparently thats normal for the first one.
