Hi everyone,
I'm Corelly and my DD was born on March 31 09. Up until now, I haven't felt able to join this group. DD was born with developmental dysplasia of the hip and was way behind on milestones, so I found it a little painful to read about what kids of her age were up to, when she couldn't do anything due to being in a brace. BUT -- she came out of her brace two weeks ago, so I'm hoping I can join in.
DD can sit up if we put her into the sitting position, she can roll, and she is just beginning to commando crawl. She has figured out how to get from sitting to on her belly and over the past week she has learned how to turn herself around while sitting. Probably milestones you guys passed ages ago, but for us they're new and exciting. She has the most gorgeous curly hair, is a really happy baby, but sleep, well that's just out the window!!! She can say mum, dad, baba, and tries to say her cousin's name, Charlotte, but unfortunately it sounds a lot like s**t!!!! Whoopsie! She has two bottom teeth, four top ones and is well into the cuddles and kisses giving which is just the BEST!!!! As for me, I'm 30, married and have two pet poochies which are just fantastic. I think that's it! Oh, my working background is children's books, so if anyone wants to know anything, I'll try to help.
Hope you don't mind me butting in and joining. I'm not part of any real life mother's groups and the only other baby we really know IRL is my niece who is 18 months old, so it'll be nice to talk to some mums (& dads??) with babies of the same age.
Thanks
Corelly

Ange just curious, i do remember a lot of people wanting to help you out because of what happened.
So i always wondered how many years you go out of it. I see you got another 2 yrs this year. Your doing well lol
You deserve it tho, Your always there with helpful advice & a your good for a laugh.
Welcome Corelly, your DD sounds like she is doing really well, yay for being out of a brace.
I'm Mo & i have 2 DD's Maddi my 2yr old monster & Kodi my little angel.
Nik sleep here is all over the place. Kodi rarely goes down before 9:30 & wakes up at least once during the night. Like Ange our day starts at the crack of dawn thanks to Maddi.

Hi corelly! I've just joined here too! You mst be so happy to have your little girl out of her brace! She sounds like she's going perfectly well! Actually she sounds exactly my dd1 but my dd didn't have a brace. So I don't think she's behind at all. It's so exciting when our kids learn new things! I'm 26, married and have two little girls, Amy who just turned two in Jan and Skye who was born April fools day! I don't go to a mothers group irl either. Never found a good one. I'm looking forward to getting to know all you ladies in here. Thanks for the info on sleep. It's nice to know there's a variation in what other kids are doing. I'd rather Skye stayed up a little later but she gets SO cranky. She only has one sleep at 10am for about 2 hrs and will sometimes sleep for fifteen min in the arvo. It's amazing how different kids are although both my girls are early risers and always have been. I never get used to it though!

Corelly- A warm welcome to BB. IT makes me feel sad that you felt you couldn't join in. :( My girlfriends little girl was in a brace for 10 months. She used to crab crawl, she was very resourceful to get around with it on. She is now 4 years old. runs, jumps and even surfs. ;) And i agree with Nik, she doesn't really sound behind at all.
I know it is hard to not compare your child to others around you, but honestly, motherhood isn't a competition, it doesn't matter when your baby learns to sit, walk, talk or speak, they all get there in the end. Sounds like your baby girl brings lots of light and life into your lives, don't feel like you can't join in because she may not be reaching milestones at the average rate. Oh, i'm up for ALL recommendations for books you have. We have 100's and i love buying them. My favorite at the moment is "The terrible plop" What's yours?
A little about me, 32, 2 girls, moving to PNG in 3 weeks. eeeek. Used to work in medical imaging.
Better put some babies to bed.

hi corelly,
i agree with junglemum, your bub sounds absolutely perfect! so are you an author or illustrator in childrens books?
chels is in a sorta routine. usually wakes about 5 or 6. next sleep is around 9:30 can last from 40 mins to 1 hour. then another sleep around 2ish, usually a smaller sleep. then bed between 5.30 and 6.30pm.... from there is will wake a few times and settle with DH picking her up for a few mins. she usually comes into ur bed to breastfeed ( and stays on pretty constantly) from about 12am then it all starts again. LOL not the best sleeper but WAYYYY better than my DD1.
-
T sleeps 2 hours twice a day but sometimes - especially when I am at work - she stays awake too long and gets over tired. Most days she is down by 7.30-8pm and wakes 1-2 times every night!! She wakes at around 1am then around 4.30am (what is with that hellish hour?) and then up at 6.30am. I need a decent sleep
Anyway at 6.30am I put her in the portacot in the bathroom ensuite and let her play/grizzle/sleep whatever whilst I try and rest a bit longer. I hate an early start to the day - feel ripped off!
When she wakes o/night she only cries til I feed her briefly and then straight back to sleep. I need to cut this out but her room is wall to wall with her brother who is doing year 12 and I dont want his sleep disturbed. Incidently DS2 was an EXCELLENT sleeper - 7.30pm to 7.30am religiously! So he shouldnt suffer for Ts poor night pattern.
Sorry for long post - I talk like this too!!
-
Oh and welcome Correlly! I missed your post over the page when I posted a min ago. Now caught up with the news.
The more bubs you have the less you worry about keeping up with other bubs as they are all so incredibly different.
I do not have a mums group either - BUT - I am gathering a few personal friends who have had bubs in 2009 and having cake at my place on Monday. I am really looking forward to it. It was an amazing year of us older mums having new bubs and all knowing each other but not planning anything of course!

Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcome! I know what you all mean about trying not to compare other babies to mine, and I really try not to do that. I had a really hard time having my munchkin in the brace, and plaster for a few weeks too, that I didn't want to add to my pile with a reminder of the things she probably should be doing.
Phoenix - Love it - 2 year old monster! You must have your hands full with two under two :)
NikW - Another brave woman with two under 2 :) Sleep would be good wouldn't it? My DD's habit at the moment is to fall asleep at around 8pm and then wake up to party at around 10! I've tried pushing her to not sleep earlier, but then she just gets all upset and cranky and doesn't sleep until later again! She's still in the brace to sleep in for another week, so I'm hoping once that comes off, she'll start to settle into a better routine. The brace is too small for her now and makes her uncomfortable.
Junglemum - I LOVE the terrible plop! So much fun. DD loves "Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley" by Aaron Blabey - actually all of his are great.
Hollo - I wish I had managed to write or illustrate!!! I've part written a novel and I had grand plans to finish it once I had all this free time on my hands while my baby slept......;) I worked in a children's specialist bookshop, focusing on children from birth to lower high school. I could kick myself about my novel because I made some really great contacts who were interested in what I was writing. I'll get around to it one day I suppose. Maybe when I'm 50.....
Super Pumpkin - I don't know that I'm brave enough to have any more bubs!! We always had planned for two, but the odds for us having another baby with hip dysplasia are so high, and it was such a hard long journey, that I think, well for now anyway, that we'll just settle with our one.
Thanks for introducing yourselves everyone! I feel really welcome.
Corelly x

Thanks for the tip on "Pearl Barley and Parsley Charlie"- i'll have to go and find it now. :D I'll take all the recommendations you've got. I've never heard of Aaron Blabey, will have to check him out.
My friend with the bub who had hip dysplasia had a little boy who is now one and he didn't have it, so although the odds are higher, you might get lucky. And perhaps now you know a little about the journey it may be a little easier if you were faced with it again? :dunno: Whatever you decided in the end will be just right for you guys, i'm sure. :)
Super P- Must have been something in the water! Must be nice to have friends you know with bubs. So what constitutes old exactly?? :p In my old mothers group i was was the second youngest at 32, then 5 girls all older than me, the eldest was 40 when she had her first and 41 when she had her second. :o While i'm rambling........ my mum's mum was 50 when she had her. Can you imagine the surprise?!!! Have a lovely day on Monday. Are you making the cake?
We've had a horror two nights with top teeth coming down. Fingers crossed tonight is a little better.
Anyone else got a velcro baby atm? DD2 does not want me to put her down at all. :wall:
-
Ange K is exactly the same, going to the loo results in a scream fest as do most other things when i can't hold her.
-
We're not too bad during the day, both the girls just follow me everywhere which is interesting when I'm in the toilet, lol, but at night we've got some separation anxiety happening here. 2am scream fests for no reason. Fun.
-
JM - my favorite books for T are "Where is the green sheep?" and Spot books. She also loves "Nursery Rhyme Rainbow" which is a larger board book with beautiful illustrations. She found her brother's old Grug books and brings them to us to read a lot too. Actually we have way too many books too - I never threw that stuff out years ago.
I may cook or I may get some lovely cakes from the local bakery.
I'm talking 40's mums. When I had the boys I was 21 and 23. Now I am 41! So I was both ends of the spectrum and have never got into the local mum's groups. On-line we can seem ageless :D
Mo - Prednisolone is a strange drug. When I had it years ago it made me hyper. I know it can increase weight too. No one likes that side effect! Have you discussed any alternative meds or is that the only suitable one?
-
Bron the Pred works best for getting the flares under control, i've been on it long term as the other meds weren't keeping it controlled & i don't tolerate Imuran & 6MP.
So right now we are trying salofalk granules which seem to be working really well & i'm starting to wean of the pred which is being very painful for me as i've been on for a very long time. So it's messing with my body in a big way.
Unfortunately i may have to try out Methotrexate if these new meds don't work & i really really don't want to go down that track.

Hi guys,
I'm back from visiting my sister and had a fantastic time. Did a bit of shopping and stocked up on nappies and wipes (I refuse to buy them out here and try to get them on special) got a new stroller for travelling and 6 new books  We are addicted to books, I have an online birthday present order coming in the post this week and we already have so many, but I figure you can never have too many and they are such a great investment. I got all my old books out from my parents shed and I have the anne of green gables set and a heap of hardcover enid blyton books - can't wait for DD to be old enough to read them.
Welcome Corelly - I also feel sad that you felt like you weren't able to join us sooner but I am happy that you have reached the point where you can join us.
JM- yep I'm in rural CQ. The town has a population of about 3,000 people. I'm actually staying with my parents as well until DP gets back.
Nik - We have a morning nap of about 1-2 hours and sometimes a 30 min afternoon nap. Go down for the night around 9pm and wake up at around 7-8. At the moment we are having 3-4 wake up over night which is starting to take it's toll. I'm hoping that it will settle down sooner rather than later.
SP - Your get together tomorrow sounds like fun. I went to a few meet up with Brisbane mums before I left and used to catch up with a work friend the same age as me with a DD born one month after Alexandra. I'm starting to really miss the interaction with other mums and bubs. I'm another young mum, I'm 24.
Hollo - Good to see you back in here. I am so used to going to bed late and getting up later that I cannot even fathom getting up at 5am. I think it would almost kill me
Mo - Fingers crossed that you can get your meds sorted for your mind and body's sake.
-
Opps haven't been in here in a while
Hello to everybody again and welcome Corelly
I have had a tough week last week went back to work it was so hard, she was fine with her nanna but it broke my heart. Heres hoping this week is better. I wanted to quit like a 1000 times!!!
Made it harder with my SIL giving me advice when she hasn't worked a day in her life and lives with her parents at 28 yo and is having a baby shell never have to leave to go to work
Ella is a good sleeper at night but day sleeps are hit and miss, saying that little monkey was up at 11 last night wanting to play she just wouldn't go back to sleep. I hope it was a one off!
We love our books here too anything with animals in it she seems to just devour
We love our mums group though there are a few with bubs already on the way again, which makes me want No 2
Anyone getting clucky for another baby?
Unfortunately I have 15kg to lose first :shakehead:
I better go and get some housework done while she actually napping
Oh yeah we have the screamfest too when i go out of the room i always have her tagging along with me even in the loo as well !!!!
-
Yep, got a velcro baby over here alright!!! LOL. Kinda nice during the day though.
I'm hoping that will change next week though - we're going to Noosa for 10 days and the plan is that DH will try and break some habits - DD will ONLY fall asleep in my arms. We're hoping that we can convince her that her daddy is wonderful at night too, not just in the evenings during play time!
Has anyone got any dinner or lunch suggestions that their LO loves? We're getting a bit bored with our selection over here ;)
Hope everyone is well.
-
Corelly enjoy your holiday & where abouts are you in Melb? I'm in the south east
Kellie i would love another baby but i'm pretty sure we are done. I do wonder how long it will take one of us to announce another pregnancy and i wonder who it will be.

Mo - I'm over in the northern suburbs, in Mernda.
