Kris - hope Ewan feels better soon. Good news on the diabetes test. I believe having gestational diabetes puts you in a higher risk category for diabetes later on, so maybe you'll be okay as you get older even with your family history. My cousin has insulin dependent diabetes (diagnosed when she was 21, so the juvenile strand, not type 2) as well, but she has managed to control it well enough to have a hassle-free pg until now. Only a few weeks to go for her. It will be strange to go back to having a newborn now our toddlers are getting so grown up!
Jen - Hope your DH's bday is a lot of fun on Sunday. Lucy is saying more words too, she'll often repeat things if I ask her (she's just gotten her version of 'please' but it doesn't always come out when I ask for it!). She repeats the sounds animals make when we're reading a book, moo for the cow is her favourite. 'Puppy' and 'baby' are the words she uses the most (apart from 'no' with a shake of the head - but to be honest I'm glad she can say no, since she tells me if I offer her something and she doesn't want it). LOL at Tayneesha's boyfriend. Lucy only has the one, she'll need to get some tips!
Kas - how's the unpacking and the settling in to your new house going? Bet it seems like you'd never get there! Do the boys like the new place?
Steph - how are you and the boys going? How's the signing coming along?
Liz - how are you? I can't believe how fast your ticker is coming along. At this rate, you will be able to shock your Mum with some tandem feeding!
As for us, we've had a bad week or so. Lucy's godfather Chris, a very dear friend of ours, passed away unexpectedly on Aug 3 from a heart attack. Completely unexpected, very healthy before that and none of the risk factors (non-smoker, etc). We are shocked and still very upset. I had some family up to stay for his funeral on Monday (he has known my aunt and uncle for over 30 years). It was great to see them again, but not under the best circumstances. I was also really sick last week (came down with a throat infection not long after we got the bad news, I don't think the shock and the crying helped), but am better now. We are trying really hard to be there for his wife and his eldest daughter is wanting to take on his role in Lucy's life, which is really lovely of her. Chris was the closest thing Lucy had to a grandfather (he was 61), since my Dad is out of the picture and DP's lives in England. I'm really touched that his daughter is reaching out to us when she's suffered such a loss.
While my cousin was staying with her 20 month old they took us to the Aquarium. Lucy and Hayley had a lovely time, perfect outing at their age. Tanks at their height, nothing they can't touch. Lucy liked the platypus the best and it very obligingly swam around and around, sommersaulting in front of her and everything. Lucy loved having a playmate for a few days and I think because Hayley is just a few months older started trying to copy her by talking a bit more.
Anyway, I must get back to work. Didn't get a lot done last week so have heaps to catch up on.
