WOW...lotsa talking!! I started to read last night, but Oskar decided that he didn't want me too so I haven't caught up on everything prior to the last few posts.
Karina, I reckon that bubs likes the skin on skin contact...also maybe cos the water is deeper and you are holding them differently to how you do in a baby bath that maybe they do feel more secure. I know that Oskar just LOVES having a bath with me. I hope that your nipple feels better soon :(
I find that Oskar isn't a good day sleeper and just naps mostly. If I go out though he will sleep longer once he falls asleep in the car...although that can even take a while. By late afternoon (around 5:30) he has started to chuck a wobbly cos he's tired. So I am sooooo happy that I bought a hug a bub the other day cos I pop him in it with his dummy (not a fan of them he only took it first time yesterday and I got grocery shopping done!! I wasn't getting anything done before) and he's asleep within 5 mins. Last night I was able to cook dinner and EAT it and he slept happily in the hug a bub...tonight so far, he's done the same thing. Just need to go and eat my dinner in a min (DH has done most of the cooking - BBQ). I was thinking that the hug a bub is really expensive...and it is..BUT it's already helped my sanity and Oskar's vocal chords...lol. We have a weigh in on Tuesday so that will be interesting to know just how much my little man has grown already...I better go and do the mash and eat my dinner. I hope you all are going well and your little bundles as well...I will try to get on and read more often.
-
Bec, yeah i think I might just try expressing a little. Nipple needs a break!
Sarah thanks. I think we might try a bit of co-sleeping, just on the nights when Claire just wont sleep... I've just spent the last hour and half trying to settle her.
Rachel, I hope you feel better very soon - you really dont need to be sick right now. Bummer that your present didnt arrive, how annoying. Happy anniversary too. We do the same thing with the face/fair washing - at first we did it before bath, now, do it in the bath. I think she used to get cold or something and didnt like it.
Savina, yay that Taylen is growing well. We're in 000 bonds wondersuits also, but other clothes she wears the 0000 or 00000. The different brands seem to be differnt sizes. Claire sometimes likes her belly, but she doesnt sleep on her belly unless she is on my or DH's chest.
Cass, I'd love to be able to cook dinner and EAT it lol. Tonight, I had cold dinner lol.
Weighed Claire the other day and she is almost 4kg, the chubba! She is very long now..maybe taking after her very tall daddy lol. I do hope she grows some hair on the top of her head. Its only on the back and sides lol.
-
Karina - Yea i guess thats what it is with the bath/shower... Just loves being with her mumy hehe! izzy has ruined my Right boob... But it's slowly healing, i really do love the paw paw ointment it has worked a treat.
Racheal - I hope u start to feel better hun. I been feeling under the weather lately too... Getting huge headaches and really sore tummy... Happy Wedding Anniversary!!! 3 cheers for you guys!
I might try that with Izzy not make the baby bath so deep... I had izzy on the floor today under her toy thingy, and she lovd it had her amuzed for 30mins! which was great!
Izzy is in size 00 now, and some 000 - but i've already had to put some 000 away coz they where to small :( my lil porker!!!
Savina - Izzy likes her Tummy too, and i have found dosnt like her back... and i put he to bed on her bk the other day went in to checxk on her n she was on her side!yea i better book my 6wk check up too... before we head to tazzie!
Cass - whats the hug a bub? I wasnt a fan of the dummy either, always said im not using them! untill Izzy came! and i have to say im secretly in love!
almost 4kg omg soo small karina! My chubber is 5kg already!
With the ladies that are co-sleeping... Is anyone else getting hmmm how to word it... snotty comments when friends/family/strangers here that your co-sleeping... My gawd i've had that many comments about it like "oh you have to get her out of that habit now" "your spoiling her" and some other really rude remarks about my parenting! How do i still sound polite but tell them to p**s off at the same time?!?!?
-
lol Cass blob, when people make mean comments about my parenting i tell them some thing to the effect of "you had/will have your chance.. let me do what i am happy/comfortable with" i dont think that its a rude comment, but to me its like basically saying shut up and get over, but it in a nicer way. Woohoo that the toy thingy amuses Izzy. We have one too and Claire likes to bash the dangly things with her fist.
-
hehe kewl! Its particuliary annoying when they dont have children! grr... But i might use your comment! mines alittle ruder lol! How is clair today? Izzy sleeping :) Wahoo thought for a while there she was going to stay up forever lol!
-
Cass haha what was your comment to those silly people? I havent had many comments really, but its always good to have a comeback for when people comment. I'm not very witty so I always think of a goood comment like 2 hours later which isnt much use! Claire is not impressed tonight. I've tried everything and she is just not settling! I did make an attempt to use the dummy but she doesnt seem to like it. I am hoping DH hurries up and comes home soon. I just know he'll be home really late though - of course, on the night i need his help lol!
-
lolz i'm the same! Come up with a witty comment the day later~ And you can't really go back and say it lolz! So i try save it for next time but that dosn't work! lolz. My comment a little like this "shut up! unless your the one that spent 27hours in labout with her! They get a bit snotty when i say that! lolz.
I hope Claire settled for you! Izzy ended up sleeping till 4am! (from 8) my goodlil pumkin! hehe its noice passing them off to others every once and a while, my mumz been great, n izzy usually settles forher when she wont settle for me...
-
oh yeah about the co sleeping ive had it 4 years, people commenting ive had all our kids in with us to , i just ignore them its always worked for me, im the one gotta get up to em in the nite so stuff em,,,, were happy dh sorta throws in smart remarks about it when ppl r around but he knows he loves it to , and well he really doesnt have a say and thats his own words until the day he gets up to kids he can try and stop it lol
karina- CLAIRE IS SO SML MY BUBS IS OVER 5 KGS ALREADY AND WAS BORN JUST OVER 4KGS. SO HIS HAD A HEAD START
-
OMG non stop screaming (well, he did stop sometimes to nap for about 2 mins at a time and catch his breath) for 45 minutes this morning starting at 5am, I have never heard him scream like that before, it was awful. I guess it was "just" wind, he was drawing his legs up and so tense, eventually he wore himself out and went back to sleep. It was at the end of a fairly sleepless night, I had indigestion from mushrooms and didn't get to sleep until about 3 am so I'm pretty exhausted today! We are getting takeaway tonight... :)
On the bright side I've had him the HAB and it calms him right down, and he's so much happier today than yesterday, so I guess his cold is getting better. Certainly wasn't helping his sore throat with all that screaming - he was just about hoarse! Hope you've all had a good weekend
-
Cass, after Claire finally settled, she slept for 7 hours! Fantastic! Longest sleep I have had in a while lol. Wow @ sleeping from 8 till 4!
Savina, thats good the cosleeping works for you. I get annoyed when people say dumb comments about things they dont know much about. Claire was 2.9kg at birth. Sounds like Taylen is growing very well!
Bec, i hope S settles better tonight. I can really sympathise with you, Claire has days like that too and sometimes theresnot a lot you can do :( Glad the HAB is good though.
We had my aunty & uncle over today. It was lovely to see them and ramble on about Claire to someone other than DH, lol. They also gave me some lovely gifts including a really pretty blanket with her name embroidered on it.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
-
Hi everyone. Just checking in. Nicholas is doing well, we have him sleeping in his own room now in his cot. He seems to like it much better than his bassinet and sleeps for about 1 1/2 hours at a time during the day. We are still trying to get him to go for longer stretches during the night, and I am going to try giving him a "dream feed" before I go to bed to see if it helps him to go for a bit longer. I really struggled to b/f him last night as my bb's were so sore, so we gave him a bottle. I am going to try again tonight, as I really want to avoid the bottle for now.
Oops, gotta go, Nicholas is awake for his next feed.
-
Rachel - hope you are feeling better. I love all my nappies, the bumgenius pockets are fab and both them and the beehinds are one size nappies so it fit's right up to toddler. The berry plush are gorgeous but I don't know if I'm using them right. I'm pleased I actually got to use my wondersuits before Ariya outgrew them, they are fairly snug but she is a bit of a shorty so not too bad, she is mainly still in ooo occasionally fits into some oo but it is so frustrating as it is still over 30 here most days and there is no summer clothes available grrrrr.
Savina - yeah Ariya is a tummy sleeper too. We put her down on her tummy for naps and finds she settles much easier although we keep an good eye on her. During the night I usually settle her in bed with us on her back or side but she rolls over by herself anyway.
ozziehoffy - Ariya isn't much into daytime sleeping either, mayber 1 hour is the max we get in one time.
Karina - I love co-sleeping it is so much easier and beautiful feeling waking up in the morning with your bubba beside you (or in my case bubba and DS nestled up to one another - me watching very closely as DS is a wiggler :-) Woohoo on Claire hitting 4kg! Not usre how much Ariya weighs we have our 6wk check on thurs or fri - better go check hey :-)
Cass - we coped all the comments you can imagine about co-sleeping, BF, not intro-9ing solids until 6mth, slinging, attachment parenting OMG it felt like we were being attcked or made fun at at every turn. we found the best way to handle it was to gather lots of info to strike back with, particularly about the nature of babies and how they are designed to sleep next to their parents and that seperate sleeping has only been introduced into western society in the last 100 yrs or so. Even the SIDS foundation acknowledge that co-sleeping is beneficial to setting infants sleeping patterns and encouraging regular breathing etc as long as it is done responsibly. great book called The No-Cry Sleep Solution that has lots of info too. Best bit is by the time our DS was 2 everyone was commenting on how well adjusted and out-going he is after us being told he would be spoilt and clingy - giving them comfort actually helps them in developing self confidence which you probably know anyway. and really when push comes to shove it's you not them having to get out of bed every few hours isn't it :-)
sasha - ari has had a few of those sessions today OMG won't even go into the arvo we had last night.
Jo hope your nipples recover quickly, I've got a tin of formula in the cupboard as my nipples were so bad I was ready to give up but luckily the nipple shields worked wonders. Hope you can hang in there.
-
Hi girls, just a quick hello before grace wakes, which will be any minute. Feeling much better which is good. We ended up at the emergency department on saturday with DH as the GP thought it was appendicitis. Weren't there for long luckily but it may be a grumbling appendix (as i suspected), but they wouldn't do anything yet so just watch it and if the pain gets worse come back. He had yesterday of work but has gone back today.
oh..Grace has woken. Be back later....
-
hello, just thought i would pop in, got my arms full with a grumbling miss ariya who is being very fussy, only feeding foir short times, going to sleep and waking up hungry and DS has come down with a cold - yeah and my assignment is due in 10 days! on an up note the craft fair is this week so hubby is on babysitting duty and I'm going nuts on quilting fabric and a new machine!!!!!
-
Hello Ladies
gosh Claire has been a booby hog alllll day and has been cranky and not settling. I just took her for a nice walk and she has finally gone to sleep so I can now eat dinner!
I'm so tired, so its just about bed time for me too.
Hope everyone is well.
-
Hi all...just thought i'd pop on quickly before I hopefully head off to bed. We're all feeling much better here now luckily, although have realised that spicy curries/indian food and Grace do not agree! Had a hot curry last night (not intentionally hot I stuffed up!) and Indian on Saturday night and both of these nights, Grace hasn't gone back to sleep between 4am feed and next feed! May just be coincidental but this has happened both nights. She hasn't been screaming or anything, just very awake. She has now been asleep since 8pm in her rocker, i am guessing that as soon as I try to move her into her cot she will wake, so i will feed her then too and hope for another 6 hour sleep. Not much else happening here really, she is getting cuter and cuter(if that is even possible). Anyway, I really should go, DH is at work tonight so it is just me and I am pooped! Hope everyone else is doing well and getting enough sleep. Take care.
-
well that was an interesting event. After I got off the computer I took Grace to her room and decided to change her nappy (she was still asleep) and thought that would wake her and she would want a feed. I managed to change her nappy without her really stirring. Then I ummed and aaahed and decided I would try to feed her before going to bed, she fed without waking! I burped her and put her to bed and she didn't wake - very bizarre. I thought I might be lucky to get until 3am as she had been asleep since 7.45pm. She woke at 5.30am!!! I couldn't believe it. Fed well then went back to sleep until 9am!! She is such a good girl. Mind you she had been awake nearly all day. She has a snotty nose too so maybe that is making her tired, i don't know but it made for a very good night for me.
She has more red spotty things on her face and neck today, i believe it is this hormone rash they get around 6 weeks or so, hormones really do have a lot to answer for!
I've noticed this morning that the disposable nappies that we are trying to use up before she grows out of them are leaving crystals on her, you know the stuffing from the inside, is this ok for her skin? It's not even when they are really wet. They are the babylove ones. Weird.
She is such a spoilt little girl, she is still getting presents! Some really cute stuff. I have decided though that when it comes to all in one suits they really need to make the feet larger. She has some really gorgeous all in one outfits but because she has long feet a lot of them won't fit for nearly as long as they should which is a bummer. Hope everyone else is well.
-
Hi...Just thought I'd quickly pop in to let you know I'm not really MIA...just had a majorly bad night Sat night and Sunday all he did was be a crankypants and didn't want anyone but me...so that made doing anything at all so difficult. I was soooo tired and I ended up crying Sunday night cos he still wasn't settling and I just wanted to sleep and when he did go to sleep I was afraid to put him down in case he woke up!! It took a couple of days to get over it cos I was so tired.
He's been a lot better since and may have been having a growth spurt. We went to the baby clinic yesterday and that's what she thinks anyway. He has put on 930 gms since birth...that's just over 300 gms a week!! Little porker...lol. He's grown 3.5 cm in length...my little man is growing up too fast already!!!!
Better run, he's whinging for the boob AGAIN!! I hope everyone and all bubs are doing well. Sorry I have not caught up on the posts since I last posted, but haven't actually been near the computer in days. Take care and keep smiling :D
-
Hey i got an interesting fact today... don't know too much truth in it... But they say that the mother's breast milk has a drug in it ' which does the same effect as a sleeper pill!
Just a quick note to say hello! Me and Izzy are fine - just resting up...
-
Soooooo tired. Just when Tate seems to be feeding every 4hrs at night (feels like a miracle after 2hr feeds for the past fortnight), DS#1 decides to get out of bed many times between 2am and 4am. I had a mini meltdown this afternoon. I had my heart set on napping when DS#1 was napping, but Tate had other ideas and cried for 1.5hrs. So I decided to feed him (AGAIN), and he has been asleep since 3pm, it is now 4:30pm, and DS#1 has been AWAKE since 3pm. ARGH! Hang in there me................!
-
Aaww Jessica, hang in there. It will get better as you know. I think though when you are used to your baby being so good and getting good sleep overnight, when they don't do that it really hits hard, well it does for me anyway.
Well I can't believe it. It's just after 7pm and I have had dinner! Grace is asleep in the rocker after her bath. She has been so good today. She slept between her feed at 11.20 to 2.20 which is unusual for her, I started to think something was wrong, lol. I am so used to her being awake all day that I forget she is actually supposed to be sleeping in the day. I hope it doesn't effect her overnight sleep though as DH is at work again. Fingers crossed. Have a good night ladies.
-
Rachel , interesting how Grace didnt wake when she fed. Claire also has a red spottiy rash on her neck - looks like its clearing now though. lol I have trouble with the all in one suits, especially Bonds Wondersuits - they need to make the cuffs around the wrists bigger.
Cass, thats great about Oskars growing. Cant believe how much bigger Claire seems already. Hope you have a better night and get some sleep.
Cass blob, hmm very intersting about breast milk having something in it which puts bubs to sleep.. must be the explanation to why I can knock her out with my boob.
Jessica, i hope you manage to get a bit of rest!
Weve had a pretty good day. Claire slept for 5 hours last night, and another 5 hours today. Had some trouble settling her last night but after taking her for a walk and giving her a nice long feed and bath she had a good sleep, then I ended up waking up soaking in milk because I had filled up and leaked all over myself and the bed - lovely! I am really loving this Baby Bjorn thing I have. When she is in it she just stares at me, so cute! I have taken soooo many photos of Claire. I am trying to get one when she smiles, but I am too slow.
How long are your bubs awake between sleeps? Claire is usually awake about 1-1.5 hours, sometimes even up to 3 or 4. Just interested to see what other babies are like?
-
Cass blob...the sleeping pill thingy with the boob needs to be stronger in my case...lol. He doesn't sleep long enough when I put him down!! He's ok at night usually, just in the day!!
Jessica, to you. That's so how I felt the other day when Oskar was waking every hour in the night and then wouldn't settle the next day and didn't want anyone but me. I just wanted to have a full on melt down! I hope you get some rest hon.
Rachel..I have to check Oskar if he sleeps like that in the day...just to make sure he's ok cos he doesn't sleep in the day!!
Karina have you got some pics to share?? She looks so cute in the ticker pic. I am hanging for Oskar to start with the smiles...I love how cute they are when they are little and start smiling.
-
Hi everyone. Sounds like everyone is tired, and babies are all doing well...feeding like little troopers!! I had forgotten how tired you get in this first few months.
Cass - Oskar sounds like he is doing really well with putting on so much weight and growing so much.
Well, we have had a pretty tiring week so far. I have finally been able to find out what the pain in my breasts has been after each feed, it is called vasospasm or Raynaud's of the nipple. I saw the lactation consultant on Monday who knew exactly what it was...I have been treating thrush for a week, but it wasn't that at all. Anyway, the LC spent 2 hours with me and Nicholas and came out with a few different things for all the trouble we have been having. He has a disorganised suck which means that he can't do the suck, swallow continual breathing he needs to do to feed. He goes suck suck swallow, big breath, he kind of holds his breath instead, then pulls away from the breast to breath. He also sucks his bottom lip in instead of flanging it out, and he has reflux. By Monday night, I was in tears as my breasts were so painful after feeding him and then he was screaming because of the reflux. As he hasn't been feeding well, he wasn't getting the hind milk and this can apparently make the reflux worse. I decided to start giving him a bottle at night to see if this made a difference, and it did, so I have decided to give up breast feeding altogether and give him formula. It is a really emotional decision, and I am still doubting myself, but I just couldn't stand the pain after feeds, which was lasting for up to 2 hours (throbbing pain). Nicholas has also not been putting on weight, so hopefully now with the formula, he will start thriving!
Anyway...we are now on formula and Nicholas is on medication for his reflux. Hopefully we will have a better night tonight. He has only been going 2 hours between feeds, maybe 3. He is such a different baby than Chloe and Jas, they were so easy!!!
Hope everyone is great, all the babies seem to be doing what they are supposed to. Take care everyone!
-
Cass, yes, i do have pics. Theyre on my website - the link is in my sig. I am obsessed with taking pics! The smiles are so beautiful! I hope Oskar gives you a beautiful smile soon.
JoMarie, sorry to hear youre having trouble with feeding. Glad you now know what the reason for it is though. Please dont beat yoursel up over not continuing with breastfeeding - You gave it your best shot, and little Nicholas needs you to be in good shape to care for him. I hope the medication helps his reflux too.
-
Just typed a lovely long reply and in my tiredness pressed the wrong button and lost everything.
Thank you for all your sympathy girls, I know you all understand!
I am def feeding Tate too often. He asked for more after 2hrs this morning and I cuddled/patted/rocked instead and he slept another hour. Same thing happened this afternoon and he lasted another 1.5hrs. So the cheeky monkey will have to stop expecting milk everytime he cries! He is absolutely stacking on the weight so I am happy with my decision to try other things before feeding him.
Jo, well done you for lasting this long. B/feeding is VERY hard, without the pain, difficulties.
-
well just when i thought i was doin fine i dont think i am , im so tired apart from last nite i put taylen down around 8 pm and he work at 2.45 am i couldn bleive it, thats the best ever ....
but he got in a bad habit o f wakin 12 am then 3 am but wanting to stay awake 4 about 2 hrs and then go back to sleep walking up around 6 am . this waking up in the middle of the nite and wanting to stsay awake is a killer any ideas on wat to do for this.
i go for my 6 wk check today , taylen as well. so i lok forward to find out how much weight he has puit on im sure its alot.
and i got my baby tomy carrier this week , ive used its great just takes a little while to get use to though
-
Jo, don't beat yourself up hun!! Just a question...could you express for him?? I don't know if you still get the pain then or if it's too late now or not.
Karina, you have some gorgeous pics of Claire! I love the one with her little knitted beanie on..it's soooo beautiful!!
Jessica, Oskar is a lot like that during the day so I just go with it cos he seems to sleep fairly well most nights. The past 2 though he's woken at 3 and fussed around for an hour or more before finally letting me put him back in his bed!!
He did go to sleep just after 5 yesterday and went through till just after 10...pity it wasn't from 10 or midnight that he did this...lol. Oh well, I did get to make and eat dinner without him crying and wanting to feed.
Savina, all the best with your checkup!!
Hope everyone else is doing well.
-
hey all!
I took Izzy to the health Nurse today - She is (you ready for it) 5.06 Kilo's!!! My big baby! Heh no1 can't say i'm not feeding her right :) My little guts!~ I now have to recline my chair right back when feeding her so she has to work harder for it - otherwise if i sitting up, it comes out to fast and she chokes and splutters everywhere...
jo - soz bout your troubles with breastfeeding... But he did get the best part (colostrum)... Don't bet your self up hun... YOu did well!
Savina - Maybe try keeping him up a little longer during the afternoons... I found if i fiddle with izzy a little more cuddles playing floor time with no nappy etc - when its time for her to sleep she has generally 7ish to 10ish then shes awake for big feed and burb then bed till 5ish (this dosnt work all the time) but generally has... Since leaving the hosp, i havn't had her up 'awake' at nights - just awake for fed and back to sleep!
Good luck with your check up - I go next thur for myne...
hope everyone else is well! take care :)
-
Hi all, keep trying to get on to say hi only I get interrupted by a certain someone. We're doing well. Grace generally sleeping 6 hours at least overnight which is great. I am finding though that she will go back to sleep for 3-4 hours but then will take a lot to settle after that, i'mk not keen on getting up around 5.30-6am just yet so we are working on this! She has started to fuss with her feeding especially on the right side. She will feed really well for 5-10 minutes but when she first comes off it is sometimes a struggle to get her back on, I actually think that the letdown second time around takes a long time on my right side and she gets frustrated because if I can keep her persisting until then she will feed well again. It's so frustrating though, for both of us, she gets so cranky and then it's even harder to get her on.
Cass- Izzy is just growing and growing! Well done.
Savina - can't help you i'm afraid, but I hope you start getting more sleep overnight soon. How did your checkup go?
Jo - well done for breastfeeding as long as you did, i hope things improve for you now.
Hope everyone else is well. Take care.
-
Cass blob, Wow at Izzy being 5 kg now! Claire is now 4.1kg. Taking after me, I suppose lol.
Savina, yay that your appointment went well. Claire sleeps for longer at night if I keep her up for a bit like what Cass mentioned. We play for a while and then she tires herself out, I give her a huge feed and she sleeps for about 4 - 5 hours. usually it works.lol also settles quite welll if I take her for a walk.
Cass thanks :) i think Claire is pretty gorgeous. The beanie was given to us in hospital. There was a lady going around handing out beanies! Yay at being able to make dinner without having to attend to Oskar! I have been having cold, late dinners lately. hehe. Just looked at your website too. Oskar is soo cute - the boxing picture is sweet. Youre into the Wondersuits too! I have heaps of wondersuits.
Jessica, yay Tate will settle with a cuddle. He must be having enough to eat if he is putting on lots of weight. Claire is such a booby monster lol.
I am at home by myself again tonight. DH is out. I am worried about him actually. He seems really down and depressed. I try to help, but he doesnt seem to want me to help.
Claire is just sooo obsessed with my boob. Does anyone else find their bub grabs at and squeezes their breast when feeding? Claire does and she digs her nails in too!
How long do you play with your bubs before they get bored or cranky?
-
Cass...that's great that Izzy is doing so well!! Way to go!! Where in Brissy are you?? I meant to ask you the other day.
Rachel, Oskar does that sometimes...and he grunts and shakes his head around a bit then kinda half sucks and spits it out again. Sometimes I've found it's when he's really tired and sometimes he has wind...other times I think he's just being a male...lol.
Karina, that's so cool that you got given the beanie. I think that Oskar will play for around 10 -15 mins before he's over it at the moment...but he is still only little so he's probably thinking ...leave me alone dammit...lol. Do you wanna talk about your DH at all?? Feel free to email me (email addy is in my profile), if I'm online I'm happy to talk on MSN as well.
OMG...yes, Oskar squeezes my boob too and rubs his hand across it, so cute except when he gets a nail dug in too much. How fast do their nails grow!!! I have found that Oskar is seeming to have one longer sleep at night and going 5 - 6 hrs between his feed..the unfortunate thing is he's doing it from somewhere between 5 and 7pm...doh!! I bath him with the lavender bath and he smells so lovely after it. Oh...tonight I waited till Andy got home so they could have a bath together...pmsl though cos Oskar pooped in the bath!!! I couldn't stop laughing cos Andy keeps joking about it saying to me it would be funny if he pooped in the bath with me (cos he's peed)...so Kharma got him good and proper!!!

Hi Everyone
WOw its been so long since i have posted.
Things have been so hectic. I cant believe our babies are growing so quickly, Kaiden was 6 weeks on monday.
He has been quite unsettled ons ome days but today is was an angel, im hoping it continues through the night, I still dont get a 5 hr straight sleep from him, i cant wait till that happens.
I dont have time to indivdual post but i hope everyone is doing well, sounds like we are all in the same situation with unsettled little ones.
I am still feeding Kaiden 2.5hrly during the day and 4hrly at night.
He has something in his eye which apprently is embedded, i wish they had of taken it out when i first said something to the nurse, so now waiting on the Paed to talk to the Eye Dr to let me know what to do.. AHhh.. The object in his eye isnt irrating K though which is good.
K is still throwing up every feed its a messy process and im hoping it will stop one day.
Anyway bed time now. Will try and have a good chat on computer soon.
Love Sonia

hi all. I am very envious of those of you who aregetting 5 hours of sleep or more at night! Nic is going 3 hourly, sometimes 4 at a stretch at night. We are trying to give him a 'dream feed' at about 11pm to get him to go through, but he usually only gets to about 3am. He is a bit miserable lately with his reflux. The medication seems to be helping with the pain, but he chucks constantly and last night I think he inhaled some of his milk he bought up and spent the next half an hour coughing up phlem, poor love. I am still waiting on a smile from the little bugger, but I love him to bits and when he stares into my eyes, I get all emotional.
Has anyone given their bubs a massage? I want to start massaging Nic, but he doesn't like to have his clothes off for too long yet. I may have to wait until he is bit older, but I thought it might help with his reflux.

Sonia, I hope that they fix up Kaiden's eye asap!
Jo, I haven't done the massage thing yet, but I am unsure of when you can do it. I vaguely remember reading something about not doing it when they're too young cos it overstimulates or something?? I don't know :( I wish I knew where I read it so I could go and read it again to get my facts straight...you know when you read something then can't remember properly what you read and get facts mixed together...*sighs*. Nicholas will sleep longer as he gets a bit bigger I'm sure. Oskar has only done it once or twice. He feeds a LOT during the day and average 4 hours at night.
Gotta go and wash my hair...I put a colour in it...have Andy trying to keep Oskar settled at the moment which is semi successful, but I can't stand the greys anymore!!!!!

Cass - LOL, i certainly can't blame the behaviour on grace being too male! I am always having to trim Graces nails, she scratches her face if I don't get onto them straight away. Oh, your poor DH, but funny. My DH got poo squirted at him again this morning! It hit the carpet and the tall boy which is over a metre away! Grace just lies there calmly afterwards as if she is quietly enjoying the mess she just made!
Sonia - good to hear from you. I hope they sort Kaidens eye out soon, poor little thing. At least it isn't bothering him at all. Grace still chucks a bit after a feed too, have learnt not to put good clothes on if going out until about to walk out the door!
Jo - I too get emotional when Grace stares into my eyes, it is so gorgeous, you can just feel that emotional charge and connection between the two of you. The smiles are gorgeous, I can't get enough of them. Grace now makes a lot of noises when we are having play time on the floor - baby talk i call it - and sometimes when she does a massive smile she also lets out a little scream like she is laughing, it is SO cute. We are trying to capture it on the video camera but we are always too slow. We give Grace a massage after her bath just with some J&J bedtime lotion. She loves it and just lies there quietly. We started doing it because we have to massage her R ankle to straighten out the mild talipes that she has and we just did more because it felt weird only massaging a foot! I was never told not to do it too young, i was told it was good but to only do it when they are awake, not asleep as they will wake up and I suppose that is where the overstimulation comes from. Mind you Grace loves to have her clothes off, especially her nappy, I think if it was up to her she wouldn't wear any!
Grace is still fussing during her feeds, especially on the right. At times I have to hold her on so that she keeps sucking to get the letdown, once she gets that she is happy again and feeds well (usually) but i feel horrible having to hold her on, she kicks her legs and flaps her arms around. I have tried expressing after the late feed for the last 2 nights and have really struggled to get any milk out of my right side, i can hand express some out so i know there is milk in there, ijust can't get to it with the pump. I'm finding it really upsetting at night as only a couple of weeks ago i was expressing and getting 70mls a time and now i'm struggling to get 30mls and most of that is from the left. Any suggestions? I tried a warm compress on my breast but it didn't help. I'm worried that if she keeps fussing on the right that it won't get stimulated enough and the milk supply will decrease and then we'll be in trouble. I was going to try expressing at a different time today to see if that helped but Grace didn't want to go down after her feed so I had to put her in the sling and there is no way possible that I could express with her in the sling and we are out tonight. I suppose I will just keep persisting. This will teach me for putting off expressing, but I hate it, my breasts are always tender afterwards, it's not like feeding at all. Oh well, take care.

wow what a week. Ariya and I ended up with DS coldwhich was pretty hideous. Luckily Ariya didn't get it as bad as DS but we had 2 nights where she was so distressed because she couldn't breathe. She is almost back to her normal self now though. Just spent two hours happily cooing on the floor and in her bouncer abd then just quietly dropped off to sleep - just beautiful.
We had her 6wk check yesterday. She is now 5.2kg so 1.3kg more than birth weight and 57cm long (5cm since birth) We are a little worried she might have a turned eye but we will see how it is going at 12wks. Anyone else getting the rotovirus vaccination? we are thinking about it as I am always bringing it home being a teacher adn Ariya is not going to get any immunity from my BM as I don't have any immunity.
Rachel- Ariya has a fav booby too and I barely express anything out of the one she dislikes, it has a much slower flow and I don't think she likes lying on that side of her body as she has been fussy at it since birth. I was actually wondering if I was making any milk at all from that side as it has a differnt feel altogether when she feeds. I did a bit of research and drank heaps of water between feeds and made sure I was really relaxed when I was feeding and expresing from that side and it now seems to be filling up again. She is still fussy and it is a pia to feed her from that side esp when out in public but I guess it can only get better. When expressing try expressing near grace and think about her to get your let down happening. have you got a hand pump or electric? If you have a hand pump try doing quick little pumps at first and then slower rythmic pumps to mimic feeding, you could also try expressing while feeding Grace in the football hold.
Sonia - goodness hope you can get Kaiden eye sorted outb soon
JoMarie - Ariya doesn't always give us that much sleep her usual is between 4-5 but is sometimes only 2-3. She feeds every 1.5-2.5during the day but it is still quite hot here and I figure I'm drinking all day so I can't really argue with her. I found it interesting at an ABA meeting I went to the other day they had some tums balls - they showed how big a babies stomach is and why it's importnat for them to feed so often. I try to keep it in mind when I feel like Ariya is feeding constantly - but it is hard not to get frustrated. Hope the bottle feeding works out better for you both and don't feel bad, Nicholas got a good couple of weeks of BM and it is so much more important that you two are comfortable.
Karina - Ariya sometimes wakes up happy and will play for an hour or more happily but there will be grumbling in between where we will more her from her bouncer to the floor or something. Other times she will only go 5mins and want to be picked up constantly. i have to do something about getting her into a good daytime routine as she catnaps during the day and is awake most of the time which makes for a grumpy baby and grumpt mum.
Cass-sounds like Izzy is doing really well Congrats.
Ozziehoffy - woohoo that makes 3 QLD-ers we should all try to catch up as we visit brissie quite often we are down again in June.PM me and maybe all the brissie march bubs can catch up??

Hi everyone,
have had a bit of a break from internet as we changed providers and now have cable internet for the same price as a much slower broadband (and a much higher download limit, yay!) We also took the plunge and decided to get Foxtel. It's a bit of a luxury but we don't spend a lot on entertainment and thought it would be a good thing for me to have at home; I turn it on when i'm feeding S and during the night it helps to keep me awake!! The number of times I've fallen asleep when feeding him, and woken up, and he's fallen asleep too - must look so funny (would rather not sleep then tho because I'm scared I'll drop him or something)
So with the fast internet I've been able to see everyone's photos at last! We have some gorgeous looking babies, don't we?!! Isn't it weird that newborns all look kind of the same for a few days?
Sarah glad to hear Ariya is feeling better. We have to watch Sebastian's eyes too - both of us wear glasses so we're just going to make sure the CHN and GP keep checking on them.
Rachel, S loves being naked too! Only, being a boy we have to watch out for wee :D Hope it gets easier to express from that breast for you soon. I've started to massage S a bit after his baths with some almond oil. There are some exercise classes at our local maternity hospital where they teach baby massage as part of the class - I'm hoping to go along soon.
Jo, S's dreamfeeds usually only get him through to about 2 am as well. Sometimes he won't even feed at around 10 or 11 so I just change him and put him down and then he'll wake up a bit earlier. I would love for him to sleep a bit longer but I guess I'm lucky that he usually only wakes once a night.
Sonia, that's no good about Kaiden's eye. The vomitting must be driving you mad as well. Hope that settles down for you soon. How was the wedding down south?
Ozzie, S pooed in the bath with me in it (DH hasn't had a bath with him yet). It was so yucky, had to have a shower afterwards! I was bathing him in the basin once, and I put him in, he pooed, so I let the water out, and then put him back in , and he pooed again (!) and then as I was filling the basin up for the third time, he did a wee!! But since then he's been kind of OK about not going in the water!
Karina I play with S for about 5 minutes at a time before I kind of leave him to look at stuff by himself. I usually hang around him though and he sort of lets me know when he's interested in doing something again, we were dancing (DH and I) to some music on the TV yesterday and S thought it was great, kept smiling at us both ... maybe he was just laughing at what bad dancers we are!
Cass I have to lean back for S's feeds too - when he chokes he gets so upset and cries, such a heartbreaking little cry! Wow, Izzy is growing well!
Anyway, guess I'd better go - there is an apple pie in the oven with my name on it!! Mum and Dad coming up tomorrow to see their grandson, they haven't seen him in person since he was born, so it will be great for them to see him smiling. Have a good weekend all!
