Hi girls.. Haven't been on here in ages..I lurk but rarely find the time to post!! Am addicted to facebook which doesn't help!
Bek sorry to hear about your Dad, glad he is doing better, a pacemaker is a a much less limiting device these days, it should'nt restrict him much long term at all.
Ava is pretty good, 6.42kgs at her 4month needles, all in her bum and legs!! I have started her on solids at the advice of paed due to reflux, she is also on losec medication for it too.
She rolled for the first time back to tummy tonight!! She has not liked her back (with the reflux) for long until recently so it's great to see her moving around and enjoying it!!
Hope everyone is well.
-
Shez - Way to Go AVA on rolling! :D I'm still waiting for Joshua to start rolling but I think he'll be awhile. He's only just started to lift his head up when on his tummy and he doesn't like it very much!
-
afternoon girlies,
don't have much to report today so am just lurking about.
WTG Shez on Ava rolling. Macey has doen it a few times from her back to belly but I think its been more a fluke with her arm beinng in the right place at the right time. qill be quite happy though if she plans on stayings till for a little longer as I remember with DS that once they start, they don;t stop and the toy pile just gets bigger & bigger!
I already seem to spend my day picking up after Harry so am scared to think what the house will be like when I have 2 of them on the move.:dunno:
Question for you all; have ur bubs seme to have got worse over that arsenic hour (tea time period)? Macey is great during the day and thru the night but is a nightmare from 5-9pm most nights and seems to be getting worse. She won't sleep and really fusses with her BF but then also won't be cuddled by anyone else. As nice as it is to be wanted, it drives me crazy over tea time- and makes it especially hard if DH is on arvo shift and not home to help get tea ready. I've been trying a few different things over this time and seem to be having the most luck with this;
5pm- feed
5:30pm - 2tsp farax
will then generally sleep after this but for only 35mins max (if I'm lucky)
6:15pm floor time while we eat tea
7pm- feed (if she'll have me, then I top up with 100mls Formula with no.1 teat to make it harder for her!)
7:30-9- am stuck cuddling her on the couch as she just screams if anyone else tries to hold her. Can sometimes get to light sleep in my arms but wakes as soon as I put her down.
9:30 final BF for the night- she always has a good feed here!
10:30pm - BEDTIME!!!!!! I'm exhausted by this stage.
welcome any suggestions :-)
-
I don't know why, but I don't have an "arsenic" hour as such - maybe its because until recently the entire day was such a nightmare?? Elena is usually awake but playing around 5pm. Izzy has her dinner (sometimes us too) at about 6pm. 6.30pm is bath time for both the girls. 7pm out and a last play for Izzy. Bottles for both the girls and then DH puts Izzy to bed and reads her a story. Elena has fallen asleep on me by 7.45 pm and stays asleep when I put her down. She then wakes up between 10pm and midnight for a bottle, and again around 4am. She then sleeps until about 8am the next day. Pretty luck, although I'd love to be able to get rid of that 4am wake.
-
yeah I figured that its just not possible to have it all so I'd think I;d still choose the arsenic 3hrs and keep our sleep thru's.
have had 3 nights in a row of both kids sleeping thru- has been heaven but I know it can't last forever :-)
-
We also dont have an arsenic hour Amelie is pretty good at this time and is in bed by 7pm but she does now cry a little when she goes in her cot but doesnt take to long to settle with some music. We then feed at 10:30pm and most nights she goes through till 7am but waking at 4am a bit but hoping the rice creal will eliminate this.
My Dh is away for then next two nights then home for thursday then flys to Melbourne for the footy so we will be on our own till Sunday. I am dreading it sooo much that I think it makes it worse I shouldnt think about it so much. I know we will be fine and we are busy during the day it is just the nights when I look forward to him coming home.
-
hello, hello anyone out there today ????
-
I'm here :) but having heaps of problems getting onto to BB. I'll bbl once I've read all the previous posts.
ETA:
Managed to read them all now.
We won't be starting Emily on solids till 6 months at the least as well. Like Lulu, it's just too much of a hassle. Much easier to just feed her from me ATM.
As for arsenic hour, we don't have that with Emily.
Beck, my suggestion would be to give her some farex a little earlier than 5.30. Don't let her sleep at that time, instead try and keep her awake and give her a bath between 5.30-6pm. Then have a little play or read a book before bed.
Our afternoon/night routine is:
5.30 - bath
6-6.30 - book, feed, then bed
Her last sleep for the day is usually between 2-5.
Hope that helps.
Gotta run, Emily is awake.
-
I'm here too but also having trouble loading pages.
We don't really have an arsenic hour either, sometimes DS takes a few good goes to settle but mostly there is not much long constant crying. Typing with one hand and feeding atm so will come back later with more on the sleep thing....
We are off for a check up at the paed this arvo.
-
With the sleep thing, we went to a program called Hush Baby run by local community health. It was pretty good in that I learnt some settling techniques and how to recognise tired signs such as yawning, clenched fists, jerky arms and legs, and grizzling. I try and catch DS at the very first sign like a yawn and he is much easier to settle. If I wait until he's all grizzly, then it takes a lot longer to settle him.
All went well at the paed. She is very happy with his progress, although she commented how his head size has jumped a couple of %ile curves. She isn't too concerned at the moment as she thinks it is just him catching up on everything. So, Josh is 5.85kg, 61cm long and HC 42.9. We go back in 6 weeks for another review as she wants to check his head again and also check his shoulder strength as he is still not pushing himself up or lifting his head much. If he's not better with that in 6 weeks then it's off to physio. Hopefully, he does improve as by then he'll be 6 months! (OMG where did the time go?!)
There was no mention of solids either so I was happy about that, not ready to give him solids yet. It's enough work breastfeeding, then a top up feed, washing, sterlising and expressing, let alone adding solids into the mix :)
Hope everyone is well.
-
Did the paed suggest any tips you could try between now and 6 weeks time to help strength his head/neck muscles.
5.85kg is great. He's a little shorty too.
I forgot to mention that I do give Emily a rusk with Vegemite on it. You should see her with it, she loves it. Whenever she sees me getting it ready, she goes nuts until she gets it. Very cute. I do have a pic of it which I'll load up when I get a chance. She has vegemite everywhere, lol.
oh, and Nina gets really excited to think that 'bubby' is eating, lol. Whenever I give Emily a rusk, Nina sits down next to her and eats a bikkie with her.
-
Jodi, the paed said just to keep doing lots of tummy time. We do it quite alot, during his play time after feeds. So, probably 10 minutes 4 times a day plus after a bath when I do massage. She also said it was good to do the swimming.
I hope he gets taller when he's bigger, well at least taller than me (5'2") and his dad (5'9")!
That's so cute with Nina and Emily :)
-
Hi ladies
Good to hear from you Shez and that Ava is doing well..yay on the rolling!
Lulu- i couldnt stand if my DF was home everyday, we would drive each other insane!! i like that he goes to work everyday lol
Beckstar- I have noticed Jack is harder to get to sleep in the arvo around the 5 o 'clock mark , he will really fight going to sleep and cry for a little bit, then he will eventually take his dummy and go to sleep its so strange! but if hes really getting worked up ill give him a bath, then let him have some naked time on the floor (he loves it!) then hell have a bottle and then bed. hope its just a phase.
with the solids im just going by Jack once i see signs ill try but for now he seems happy enough with bottles. DD started at 4 1/2months as she was ready then.
-
Just a quick one to say that Amelie rolled for the first time on Tuesday from tummy to back! She has never made any attempts before so very exciting and I was right there to see it.
Jodi we gave Amelie a plain rusk today for the first and she loved licking it and trying to chew it. But still not keen on the rice cereal so I think I'll wait a bit longer to try again with that as she just kept spitting most of it out.
-
Way to go Amelie on the rolling!! :cheer:
So jealous of all your bubbas rolling already! :)
-
hi guys,
Great progress for Josh Laranna
yaye Amelie on the rolling
I'm with u blanche me DH at home would drive me nuts...
How cute Emily with the rusk!! I had forgotten how early you can use them I will give Ava a go.
We went to paed today for follow up on reflux.. He was really happy, chumba wumba is 7.05kg up 320 g in 3 weeks. She has solids twice a day he said to increase to 3 times.
I hear you about solids being a pain!
I ahve a real arsenic hour from about 7 til 11pm with oth girls.. neither like to go to bed early, but they do sleep in. I am a real night owl always have been so I think they learnt it in utero!!!
Love and hugs to all
-
Shez, how early can you give rusks? I have a couple sitting in the pantry but I didn't think I could give them to DS yet...
-
laranna - the recommendation for rusks is from 6 months, but as long as you're watching them with it, it shouldn't be a problem. They don't bite on them, they're way too hard for that yet. They just grind at it, and suck on it.
WTG on Amelie for rolling tummy to back!!
Emily will do back to tummy quite easily, but hasn't mastered tummy to back yet.
-
Cool thanks Jodi, I think I will hold out until the 6 month mark. DS can keep chewing on his fingers and toys for now...hehe :)
I am hoping the rain clears up today so we can go do some shopping!
-
wow, haven't we been a chatty bunch over the last day or so :-)
Jodi: great idea on the teething rusks as macey also can't keep her hands out of her mouth and has also started sucking on her thumb a bit which I'd like to avoid her getting used to.
well done to Amelie for rolling! macey is good going from belly to back but hasn't done it the other way yet- although she has started pulling her legs up in the air when on her back which tips her to th side so she mightn't be far off! Life is so much easier when she stays int he same spot. won;t be long and I'll be losing her under the furniture I know!
7kgs Ava! Wow that is chumba wumba :-) am going to take macey back to MHC next week to weigh her again to make sue that shes still putting on enough weight. Health nurse that if we can keep upto 100g weight gain per week then thats ok.
Been a nice day outside today although a little windy so took the kids down to the park in the pram. Harry had a ball and macey snoozed in the pram for most of the time and both are in bed now so I enjoy my lunch in peace.
Not much else to report so will hover back later!
-
Are anyone else's bubs harder to settle now? Amelie was no worries before now I have to nearly rock her to sleep and I dont want to get in a bad habit. Day time sleeps are especially bad. But she is tired as she has all the signs and doesnt want to stay awake as I have tried that.
Just finding it hard atm. It breaks my heart to hear her cry.
-
laranna - did you get to do some shopping today?
11pm bedtime shezabelle, WOW! Luckily they sleep in for you. Emily sleeps in till around 8 each morning, but she goes to bed at 7'ish, so that's pretty good. Emily's a chubba bubba too, at 4 months she was 7.2kg. Not too bad considering she's exclusively b/f hey! :D It's so different having a chubby baby. Nina never had fat rolls. At 4 months, Nina was 6.2kg, so a whole kg difference between the girls at the same age. And Emily is tall as well, she's about 67cm.
kristale - what is causing her to be so unsettled do you think? I've noticed with Emily now that she can grab things, and is more of her surroundings, she's forever pulling her dummy out, throwing it across the room, then crying for it  Or when she starts rubbing her eyes, she seems to keep herself awake even more by rubbing her eyes consistently. If I hold her hands still for a few seconds and wait till she settles down, then she goes to sleep no worries.
-
Only got to do some grocery shopping - boring! But it was still good to get out of the house. DS was crying by the time we were done though so I didn't go back out, managed to get him to have a 2 hour sleep this afternoon.
Jodi, Kristale, I'm finding the same thing with Joshua. If I hold his hands still, he calms down.
He has been a bit unsettled the last couple of days. Tonight he woke up on cue for a 9pm feed and was screaming the house down. It was as if he was in pain and every time I tried to attach him, he'd just scream. Never heard him scream like that before, had me bit worried but he seems ok now and is back in bed asleep.
Kristale, the day sleeps are hard for us too. Joshua doesn't like them much and I spend what seems like ages settling him to sleep, sometimes he only gets 20 minutes before he has to feed again! Hearing him cry is just awful, I know what you mean.
But, I'm just being persistant, got some ideas from the Hush Baby. To avoid sleep associations, they recommend stop the settling action as soon as bubs is calm...ie...if you are rocking, stop rocking as soon as bubs has calmed down and is quiet, doesn't have to be asleep, just calm. Then keep repeating until he finally goes to sleep. It's hard and takes time. I found if I look at the time I start and check when he finally goes off, it is not really as long as it seems, if that makes sense!?!
-
Laranna to you have the contact details for Hush baby? Maybe we need to go to one of those classes.
-
Hi everyone, I know i have been MIA for an eternity, so i just wanted to pop in and say gday! We have had a dramas here mainly with DH losing his job! So i just haven't had the time to get on here. Molly is doing really well, she is a very contented bub still sleeping through the night and an absolute treasure to have. Mitchie is still really good with her and very accepting of sharing his mummy. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome...... I know prior to Molly being born i wondered how on earth i would cope with 7 kids an two bubs. Thankfully i have been blessed with yet another good bubby. Molly gets her 4mth needles on Tuesday, I have been so busy that i am acopke of weeks behind. I also need to get an appoint at the HN to chart her progress. She is a much more petite bub than the last three, so i am happy with that too.
Anyway i will try and get in here more often abnd try and keep up with what you are all doing.
Cheers
-
aawww, sorry to hear your dh lost his job kat. Has he been able to find another job? It's good to hear that Molly is a content baby. It makes life a lot easier when they're content, doesn't it.
We went and visited friends of ours today who had their 2nd baby (girl) on Tuesday. She had a 25 minute labour and went home after only 6 hours at the hospital!! Her bub was 8lb 6oz, but she looks sooo tiny still. Emily looked like a monster next to her, lol!
-
Jodi the sleep in is til 8am!! The 11 pm bed times are really kiling me as it means 0 downtime for me. (Or DH time) I think they are improving though. Both are settled in bed now and have been since about 9 ish, so hopefully!!
Sorry to hear about DH losing his job Kat...
I should probably take advanatge of the girls being asleep and get some myself..
hugs xoxo
-
Good to hear form you Kat and sorry to hear about your DH atleast Molly is making it a bit easier being so content.
Jodi I know what you mean I had coffee with some friends who have a 5wk and 8wk and Amelie looked so big and grown up. Where did my newborn go? I now know why peolpe want another baby. Beacause I miss that newborn stage already even though this stage is beautiful too.
-
shez - how'd your night go, did the girls stay asleep?
Took the girls to Maccas this morning for brekkie. Haven't done that in ages. DH really wanted to try some new burger with avocado or something on it. But the maccas we went to were having electrical problems, and we could only get limited food. Not even any hash browns  So dh didn't get his burger. But Nina had so much fun playing in the playground. It's so hot here today, think I might go jump in the pool.
-
Kristale - the Hush Baby is run at the Joondalup Community Health....I will find my brochure and BBL to post the phone number...
-
Well I didn't take advantage of my sleeping beatuies I stayed up til after midnight enjoying the quiet!!
Jodi Bella came stumbling into my bed at 3am and Ava slept til 620 so it was a good night yes!
Hope all are well.
I have a girlfriend who is 36weeks and showing signs of PE so they are admitting her tomorrow for steriods for bubs then probable indcution on tuesday. Praying everything goes well.
Hugs xox
-
I hope things go all smoothly with your friend and her bub shez. :goodluck:
-
Thanks Laranna but Joondalup is a bit far for me I'm in canning vale. Things seem to have improved to so I must be doing something right.
-
Shez - I hope your friend is ok!
Kristale - doh! that's a bummer...Joondalup was a bit of a hike for me and I'm NOR in Ballajura so you'd need a packed lunch and water bottle LOL...maybe there is one SOR, your child health nurse might know?
Well, DS has been a velcro baby all day and has refused to sleep. I thought I was doing really well with what I learnt at Hush Baby but I guess sometimes they just want to grizzle and cry for no reason. He's finally gone down in his cot but is lying there awake making noises.
Earlier I just stuck him in his pram and wheeled into the kitchen so he could see me while I prepared dinner. That's all he wanted - to have me in sight at all times. I think he just wants to show off his new sounds...the last couple of days he has really found his voice and has been making all sorts of new noises and then cracks up laughing! Too cute :)
-
Emily didn't want to sleep either today :wall: She had 2x30 minute sleeps all day. She was happy though, but I do enjoy my break from her, and Nina, when they're sleeping.
That sounds so cute of him laranna! Emily is a real chatterbox too, and very loud.
Went to the park with a friend and her kids today. Her youngest is 3 months old, and he is huge! He was 7.4kg at 2 months, so I reckon he'd be about 9kg now. He's about the same length as Emily, which is quite long, but just so chubby.
-
Jodi - Josh didn't want to sleep again today! But last night he went down at 9:30ish and didn't wake up until 9am this morning!!! That was his longest sleep ever. I had my breakfast, had a shower AND managed to vacuum and mop the floors before he woke up!
-
Emily is wide awake and giggling. She's been awake since 3am, and I'm so tired.
-
Jodi you poor thing being up at 3am. Did Emily eventually go back to sleep?
I have also just joined facebook Kristale Mateljan if anyone wants to add me.
-
Doh Jodi, I hope Emily is having a big snooze for you now.
-
She went back to bed at 5.30 and slept till 8. And is having another sleep now. Naughty little girl, I'm so tired, and my house looks like a bomb has hit it (thanks to Nina!).
