LOL at being dead to the world Deancey, you must have realy needed that sleep. The seven hours I'm away is including an hour travel there & back, and I think there will be 3 feeds she needs bottles for. It's all so confusing! Isn't the me time in the afternoon wonderful?! I've had an hour today so far, but Juliette is due for her feed so she'll be up any minute now.

Afternoon Mummas,
Deancey- YAY on being able to drive also- with Liams vomiting and being unsettled could this be reflux maybe??? Jordan was like that with the power vomits and was later diagnosed with GOR (gastro-osophegus (spl) reflux) Tiahna has silent reflux but is getting more and more spewy and also has colic. Also YAY on the expressing i got 180 mls my first express aswell but i have trouble picking the right time to express as i had same issue- no let down for next feed and Tiahna was screaming for a feed so i had to give her 1/2 the bottle that i expressed.
Just wondering how long can you refrigerate EBM and how long can you freeze it???
Sarah- YAY on the public breast feeds... there a bit daunting for me... Went out with a GF who never Breast fed her boy (doest like it) so i was quite nervous to feed Tiahna infront of her... I put it off and put it off and finally Tiahna was screaming for a feed so while walking around JB Hi Fi i fed her- couldnt even tell i was feeding... also never heard of those bottles. I'm using the tommy tippee ones ATM... Tiahna doesnt seem to like any of the skinny ones or the normal wide neck teats... Am going to buy some pigeon ones- there similar teats to the TT ones. MAM also sell bottle that are supposed to be good for combining breast and bottle like the other 2.
Mecil- Zali sound like Tiahna... She used to have an unsettled period from 6.30-7.30 but now its 9.30 and 11-12midnight. i give Tiahna "Infants friend (I.F)" it seems to help with the wind... i can try all different ways to burp her and sometimes she's just screaming in pain and cant get them up... within 1/2 huor to an hour of using the I.F she's either burped or passed heaps of wind and goes to sleep at bout 1.30am also trying to give her some at the earlier feed so its not all backed up... last night she was alsleep by 11.30 so we'll see if it works tonight.
Deancey- Your hubby sounds like a great help... My DH has been working crazy shifts the last week and a half so one day he's on night and the next day he could be on days so he's needing the sleep as much as me cos some shifts he's getting home at 2-3am and needing to start at 9-10 the next morning.
Sarah- i would probable express an extra just incase she's a bit more unsettle and hungry being away from you... best to have too much then not enough but thats just me i guess...
Any tips for expressing... when is the best time... i have a double pump so it only takes me 15-20 mins to do both sides at once but seems like when i do express Tiahna wakes up wanting a feed and i'm not getting a letdown and end up giving her the bottle i just expressed.
Any one heard from Sass????? i sent her a txt msg the other day but no reply and she hasnt been on here in a while... Hope Jayda is doing ok...

Hi everyone
Just a couple of questions i was wondering how often do you feed bubs during the day? Hamish is starting to be 3 hourly but sometimes still only lasts 2 later in the day.
Also do you wake them if they have slept a long time to feed them, i was told to wake hamish if he goes longer than 3 hours for a feed but to me that doesnt seem right, for a start sometimes its almost an hour and half after his feed before he goes to sleep therefore he would only get just over an hour sleep before i woke him. I dont see the logic in this as he is putting on enough weight and sleeps ok at night, what are your thoughts on this?
Last one where does your baby sleep? We have Hamish in bassinet in our room and i was thinking i might put him in his own room soon but wonder is it too early? We sometimes let him sleep in bed with us and he sleeps alot better but i dont really want to get in the habit of this as my sister did it with her children and had alot of trouble getting them to sleep in there cot.
Oh i totally enjoyed the 2 hours at the hairdressers yesterday it was heaven, mind you i nearly fell asleep when he was massaging my scalp (lucky he is a friend), i could feel myself drfiting off. My mum babysat hamish for me, she had a great time as he was awake for half of it, and he took the bottle from her, which is great to know if i have to leave him again.
Hope everyone had a good sleep last night.

Jess have a read of this it tells you some tips on expressing and info on storing breast milk.

Jess I've been expressing at around 4am! After six hours I'm quite engorged so Juliette only feeds from one side at that feed, then I go & express the other side. Usually I can manage about 60ml in 10 miutes but have had 100ml once!
Abb, Juliette is feeding every 1.5 - 2 hours, sometimes but rarely it will be 2.5 hours. I was told to wake her if she gets to four hours in the day but I haven't had to just yet. I think the idea is so they learn to have their big block of sleep overnight rather than during the day. Juliette is in her snuggle bed, in the cot in her own room & has been since the day she got home. Her room shares a wall with ours & I don't shut doors so we cnan hear her just fine. During the day she tends to be in the rocker in the loungeroom but I think there's too many distrations for her now as she wakes up often s she'll be in her cot during the day too from now on.

hi ladies
Great to hear that everyone is going well.
Deancy i am glad that you caught up on your restless sleep the other night its hard sometimes, but it feels great once you catch up on those few extra hours.
jess i was wndering about sassy as well hope that they are ok.
sorry i cant help you with expressing bm i am absolutly hopeless at it, itried with cody but it just hurt and got nearly nothing out of it so i have never bothered since. Lucky i work from home otherwise my babies would be on formula as soon as i had to go back to work.
Abbie has not had anymore power vomits so i think it was just a one time thing.
i can't believe last night i felt a bit low in the bm department so sometimes i give abbie a bottle of formula just to top her up. WEll last night i gave her one at 730 and she slept til 430 this morning i could not believe it but then she woke again at 630 obviously as she was starving fromt the long break between feeds. I wish she was like that everynight.
Take care
Nikki

Just a quick questions sarah can probably answer this for me but why have we got two seperate threads for may and previous years have got only one for the entire may. Hope this makes sense.

LMK you gotta love that sleep from Abbie. I bet you felt great but how were your boobs? Full I bet
Well I dont wake Liam for a feed ever. He is generally 3-4 hrs during the day with 5 hrs from his dinner feed (between 5-7) then back to 4 hrly. I dont hold him out to 4 hrs but I never wake him to feed. I figure he will wake when he is hungry and I dont want to force feed him.
I have just settled Liam down for sleep he woke for feed at 3, wasnt due till 3.30 (that would have been 4 hrs). He spent an hour and half roughly awake which is plenty I think
Gotta organise tea

Abb- i'm just feeding on demand ATM... No set time or schedule everyday is different. If Tiahna is sleeping i dont wake her unless its afternoon and she's been sleeping for ages... Its just so she's more awake so at night she'll have a longer sleep... I dont think there is any particular rule...
Tiahna was sleeping in a basinette in our room but only lasted for the first week... she's been quite unsettled at night and i am freaked out at the thought of having her inbetween us in our bed so have tried the pram (lasted a week) and now she's sleeping in the rocker... With the reflux and colic it seems to allow her to sleep for 3 hours without being woken up by wind or throwing up.
Nikki- YAY on Abbie having such an long sleep... Also with the expressing i cant manage to express by hand- hurts after few minutes but the machine i brought (double pump auto one) is great i get about 90ml per side (well both times i have used it) i havent used it for a couple of days as i dont seem to get the let down after... i was thinking of starting to express one side and feed from the other to try to increase the supply a little so when i do express later when i return to work there's plenty there...
I find in the morning Tiahna is the same and only needs the one side and falls back to sleep quite quickly- its between about 2am-4am depending on when i get her to sleep... maybe i should express then also... i find i lose quite al ot in the breast pad as the opposite side i feed from leaks while i'm feeding. I might try to express while she feeds from the other side. .
Abb- thanks for the link very helpful thanks...

Nikki, the threads were getting huge & also the Belly Buddies are done in fortnights so we decided to trial it starting in May. The rest will be the same too from now on.

just poppin in quickly to say i am still here. my net got stuffed up when i moved and then bb was playing up everytime i came on so i gave up for a bit.
I started back at work last week so i have been very busy. and jayda had colic so she is grumpy. she slept 7 hrs last night so very happy with that, it just takes ages tro get her to sleep but once she is asleep she stays alseep.
-
Hi sass- Great to hear from you... YAY at going back to work already... I'm dreading going back in December... :wall: Sorry to hear Jayda has colic but WOW on the 7 hours sleep wish Tiahna slep for 4- hours let alone 7... thats awesome
-
well I think i am going to have trouble tonight as I have just had to wake Liam for a feed ( which I really didnt want to do). He fed at 3pm and went to bed about 4pm. He was still asleep at 8pm so I got him up and fed him. He barely woke and went straught back to sleep. I think when he next wakes he wont want to go to bed.... lets hope he isnt awake too long in the middle of the night.
WOW Sass at being back at work. I go back in sept and am dreading it. Yeah on the 7 hrs sleep
-
Hello :hello:
Thanks Mecil - I can twist left and right and put my foot on the floor comfortably so I should be okay to drive.
Deancey - I am with you on not wanting any more children. After 2 boys, chances are we'd probably end up with 3. I really happy having 2 boys! I planned to have my 2 children before turning 35 and I have made that - JUST - with a little time to spare. Good on your DH for getting the referral for the snip. My DH won't. It will have to be me because I don't want to be on the pill forever!!!!
Sarah - YAY on the public breastfeeds. It took me months before I fed in front of anyone with DS#1. Second time around I am not so embarrassed. First public feed was 2 weeks ago on a park bench near a busy footpath beside the lake with everyone walking past - I can be discrete!!! Quantities for bottles - rough guide according to Robin Barker, author of Baby Love, is 150ml per kg of body weight per 24 hours for babies under 3 months - so divide that by the number of feeds per day - anything from 60ml to 240ml. Another rough guide is 120ml to 150ml for babies 4 to 8 weeks, 150ml to 240ml for babies 8 to 12 weeks.
LMK - congratulations on getting some sleep.
I haven't had to wake bubs for a feed but I wouldn't let him go more than 3 hours during the day - he is a regular 2 hourly feeder so no need. He sometimes feeds more often because he is so unsettled - but he sleeps okay at night. 2 x 4 hours last night
Jess and Sass - snap on the colic. I am trying some natural colic drops - seems to be working a bit as he is not quite as bad - plus I am trying to drink lots of chamomile tea too - it is meant to help!!!
I always found the best time for expressing is early in the morning when prolactin levels are higher and there is more milk. I have been really slack at expressing this time around as I prefer to sleep because I get no other rest during the day.
Sarah & Deancey - do you still find it painful to cough or sneeze? I do!! It feels really tight around the scar. Do you think things are tighter second time around?
Hoping to have a more settled day today.

jess: the only way i get her to sleep for so long is to put her to sleep in the bouncer and she stays in it for 2 or 3 hrs then i put her into the bassinet that is elivated at one end.
wat sizes r everyones bubs in now. jayda is nearly out of her 0000. there r only the big 0000 that fit her now. and has anyone noticed how small the bonds suits r. she wa sout of the 0000 bonds suits at 2 weeks but all the other 0000 brands were fitting.
it really sucks being back at work so soon i wish i had more time with just jayda
-
Yep Sassy, Bonds tend to be a small make & both of my kids have been a size bigger in them than their other clothes. Juliette is in 000 now & I don't think the ones with feet will last her very long, she has big feet so whilst they fit everywhere else, the feet are a bit squishy!
Ticklish, sneezing & coughing isnt o bad for me now at 6 weeks. I think still about a week ago it was a bit tender.
Hope last night was ok for you Deancey.
Madame Juliette slept really well last night 10.00pm - 5.15am which was lovely but not so lovely on the boobs LOL! She then did a power spew five minutes before having to take Zander to preschool so that was fun! All over the lounge & herself, noice.

Well the night started of AWEFUL... I fed Tiahna at 6.30pm she fussed and fussed and the feed took forever i ended up putting her down and organised dinner but she was a bit unsettled Still. I ended up feeding her again at 8.30 but she still wouldnt settle she was in pain and couldnt burp so i bathed her, massages her, everything i could think of gave her the colic drops but still she was screaming and screaming... By 11.30 i was boping up and down walking round the house feeling like i could RIP MY HAIR OUT!!!
DP walked through the door came in gave Tiahna kisses and she quietened down for few minutes. I fed her again gave her another lot of the colic drops and she did a few AWEFUL FOWL smelling farts, few big burps but she still wouldnt settle down... Midnight came and passed still crying and fussing, arching her back kicking her legs about finally she did a huge poo and another few farts a big vomit so i changed her nappy and clothes and let her cry herself to sleep... She fell asleep at 1.40am
I was exhausted, frustrated and well basically a mess... i then had to shower to get to bed... The good part was she ended up sleeping til 6am so at least i got some sleep...
Today she's been unsettled again but luckily che's sleeping now but DS is sooking and DP is sleeping... just wish DS would sleep so i too can get some sleep...
Tiahna is quite long- some clothes are 000 (mainly all in 1 suits) but things like shirts and pants -no legs are still 0000
Sass- Tiahna sleeps in the rocker as i have tried the basinette elevated and with the snuggle support also the pram elevated and she last all of 15mins -1 hour max (and thats her best time)
It took my DP a while before he was ready for #2 but after being told i couldnt have anymore we realized we wanted more... Were not planning a third just yet but we arent ruling it out... everyone keeps saying now we have a perfect pair we should stop but were still young and i LOVE kids...
Ticklish- Am drinking the camomile tea also giving Tiahna small amount (very weak) recomended by the AHN nothing much seems to help... anyone tried infacol or donnalix??? anything else i can try for getting the wind up???
-
well last night turned out ok. Liam woke at 11 just as I was getting into bed, typical. He wasnt due for feed till midnight so I got up and layed him under playmat whilst I watched tele for a while. Then I fed him and let him lay there a bit longer till he looked tired. I think we both got to bed about 12.30. He then woke at 3.30 for a feed and then just after 7.30 so was a pretty good night all up I think.
Liam has been good today, he has self settled for each sleep which is excellent, I dont think I had Jordan self settling at this age. He has just gone down now from his 3 feed so will have a few hours before the next feed is due. Jordan hasnt napped today so he will have an early night I think.
Jess sorry to hear you had an awful night. I hope you get some well deserved rest in somewhere.
Sarah can you please tell Juliette to send some of that good sleeping to Liam, thats excellent overnight sleeping.
Sassy Liam is in 000 although some of the suits are getting small, he cant straighten his legs in some all in ones. Bugger about being back at work. I am back on 1st sept. Being back at work just means you treasure the moments you are with your kids more. some people need to work and you are doing it for your kids so dont worry too much about it.
Ticklish I am not getting any pain on my scar now, dont realise its there really. I guess everyone heals diff though. WOW at feeding every 2 hrs during the day. How are you getting anything done?
Well better go and prepare dinner, DH has just left work so want to have it pretty much ready as he walks in the door.
