Well we have started Liam on solids, farex or apple cereal for breaky and sweet corn for tea and he is doing really well with it. I think he is def ready as he watches us eating like a hawk, he follows the spoon or fork to your mouth. He has a bit of thrush in his mouth at the moment so I am putting cream in his mouth and on mu nipples before BFing. His sleeping is up and down, last night he went from 11pm till 5am so not to bad at all. Wish it was more like 6 or 7am though.
mis_tree you poor thing, I hope your luck changes soon. I cant believe your car got damaged. I hope the expressing sorts itself out for you too. I know how stressful expressing is especially when you cant get enough.
Je$$_84 good luck with getting into shape, I am sure you will be able to do it. YOu can stow away in the suitcase if there is room I have a few people coming along for the ride LOL
Bec7 its great you are able to resettle Cameron without a feed in the night. In regards to pooping. BF babies can go days without pooing and is perfectly normal, or so I have been told. Liam has gone 3-4 days. they are good though when they eventually do one
*LovemyKids* welcome back, sorry to hear Abbie isnt sleeping well at night at the moment. I am sure she will again for you.
Sorry to those I have missed have a great night
XX
Thanks for the suggestions. Tried to give Cameron some boiled, but he wouldn't drink it (I have given him some boiled water before though, so I don't think it was the new sensation). He still hasn't really pooped yet though - but sorry about the TMI I'm about to type, but last night he did do a little poop it was a bit on the green side - does anyone know what that could mean if anything?
I was also thinking do babies digestive systems maybe go through a change about now, even if not doing solids? Cause it seems a common problem around the 4 month mark, that and the sleep thing. I have given Cameron a little bit of formula over the last 2 weeks, usually only as a top up when it's needed in the arvo (only offer 100mls of it, as usually by afternoon I've only got 100mls when I've expressed). He had been ok with it over the last couple of weeks (we've got Karicare Gold), and last formula given was Saturday, and he pooped fine on Sunday. Hadn't given any more since then anyway.
This afternoon decided to give him a little bit of the brown sugar in water, once again would drink from the bottle (he had only just had a big feed a 90mins before), so I decided to put him in the hi chair and spoon feed it. He happily took it by spoon, at first he kept putting his bib in his mouth (he likes to wipe his mouth, then suck on the bib), but after a few spoonfulls he knew what was coming and let go of the bib and was moving his mouth to the spoon - I think he maybe almost ready for solids, but will obviously wait to make sure the poop issues resolve first (maybe will try the farax need weekend). Will see how he goes tonight and tomorrow. It's just not like him, as he would always do a good poop every 24hrs, never longer then that.
Morning Girls
Nothing new to report here really, Hamish is still sleeping like a dream (feel a bad about saying that with some of your bubs not sleeping), but i am ready for this to change at anytime. He only has 5 feeds now and one feed of rice cereal so far, will start with some vegetables next week, thinking of giving sweet potato first. Taking him swimming this weekend, have been waiting for a time when dp could come to make it a bit easier.
Bec - I hope Cameron has some relief from the brown sugar and water, i have heard it works a gem. Hamish sometimes goes 3 days without having a bowel movement but it doesnt seem to bother him.
Deancey - Glad to hear Liam is sleeping better for you now and it seems he will like his food.
Mis tree - gee you have had a bad week, lets hope it is over and next week you can have the best week ever. Good luck for Monday, i hope the doc appointment goes well and have my fingers crossed for the court hearing for you.
Sass - how are things going with work, any news on the jobs you applied for?
Nikki - i think you are the only one who can make the decisions with feeding, you need to do what is right for you and Abbie. i have struggled to breatfeed all along and have decided to finish at 6 months. I go back to work full time in December(at this stage) and know i wont be able to express enough to cope.
Gee it seems to have taken me ages to type only a little bit. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Not much to report... DD has been a bit cranky and screaming, red cheeks and bottom, teething is a b!tch... poor bubba is chomping EVERYTHING... sleeping going ok, last night she wouldnt go to bed till 10.30 but slept till 6 fed and slept til 8 so not too bad considering shes having teeth issues...
Has a bit of a temp today but nothing too bad..... have booked a council clean up so we can get rid of the extra junk round here... driving me insane so what ever isnt uses is being tossed to the curb... so much to do....
mis- sorry bout your car...I hate using the steroid cream for the eczema also.... i use the cetaphil skin cleanser and moisturiser for DD and myself... (i have psoriasis and dermatitis) works well to keep the skin moisturised and the wash doesnt dry the skin out.
Deancey- Glad the solids are going well.. Were just doing the 1 feed a day ATM... Going well... The vege's seem to keeping her regular and no more constipation since we have stopped farex. Sorry to hear about the thrush...
Bec- My Dd can go 7 days without pooping... BF babies can go up to 14 days and still be NORMAL. The green coulour could be from the forula... (can take few days for it to change the poop)
Abb- glad Hamish is doing well, and YAY on the swimming
GTG- Preschool just rang and DS has a rash all over so have to pick him up
Abb34: havnt heard abotu the jobs yet. apps closed for one on mondya and the other yesterday so it is still early.
jayda is going really well with her sleep. she is goign to bed earlier now. ever since she was born she woudl go to sleep at 830 now it is down to 730 and waking up around 6.
we have just uped her bottles she was drinking abotu 180 but ended up having a extra bottle here and then so we have her up to 210 and she is sucking them dry.
i am steeming some carrot at the mo i am goign to give it to her in her chew bag thing tomorrow see how she goes.
about to take DH to the doc. his back is getting better slowly but even if it seems fine the 6 week ban of picking jayda up still says
omg i am on the last stage of my diet. i get to slow reintroduce food. i got to have bread milk and watermelon today i felt like crying it tastes so good hahahahahahaha.
i was gettin so sick of eating the same thing every meal each day.
Hey, I'm back! Brace yourself - full on babble coming up!
I'm feeling a bit more human after a couple of nights' decent sleep. DP is cranky, as I anticipated, but it's bearable. DS still isn't sleeping so well, and still has his times all messed up, but it could be worse. I'm trying hard to break his habit of wanting to play at 3 AM. He is having a few good naps during the day still, and maybe I need to try and drop one so he will sleep better at night.
I just really needed to catch up on a few nights so I could deal with it better. At least my friend, whose son would sleep 14 hours a night, is now waking every 4 hours. I have no sympathy for her and that's so bad, but hey... I would do drastic things for that kind of sleep just once! I'm convinced that it's just a normal thing at this age, though, and it will pass.
The teething thing certainly is a b!tch, and the toxic green poo and nappy rash that comes with it are just awful. I just wish a tooth would pop up and we could be over with it, for a little while anyway! If only DS would hold on for a day or so without pooping! At the moment it's about 4 a day!! And he's chomping and drooling and squealing so much. Cold carrot fingers and teething ring are helping, if only as a distraction.
I went to the Baby Expo today, and absolutely hated it. I did get a Jolly Jumper for DS quite cheap tho, and DS LOVES it!
Have booked in to see an immunologist at the Childrens Hospital as I need another opinion/more information on Yellow Fever vaccination for DS, because at this rate there may be problems if we go to Africa, then coming back into Australia if he hasn't been vaccinated but has potentially been exposed to Yellow Fever. But he's too young to have it, and altho I dont want to have to cancel this tripas it would cost us a fortune, if it's at the expense of DS's health then we'll have to forget about it.
AF came back this week. SOOOOO annoyed!!
umm... yeah.
LMK - nice to see you back here! Hopefully you can take heart that things are challenging for a lot of us at the moment, and you dont have to make that difficult decision to stop BF. It's hard when there's that feed-sleep association thing...
Mis_tree - geez, too bad about your car! What a pain. Good luck with the Dr and court stuff on Monday.
Jess - hope your DS is ok!
Sass - hope you hear back about one of the jobs soon. The nappies are good, but might last only another week or so before his chubba thighs dont fit! You probably would've gone nuts with them, as they're better suited to new-new babies (not that absorbent). I might donate them to the Russian orphanage charity organisation that's in the cloth nappy forum thread when I'm done.
OK, I have to go. DP NEEDS to go get icecream NOW... men!
BBL!!
Well HAd to pick DS up from preschool after they found a suspiscious looking rash.... i went thinking it was probably a heat rash or his exema but NOPE... I have never seen anything like it.... It looked like little pin *****s all over his face and neck... Like little pin *****s that make the blood come to the surface ofthe skin. Took him to the GP who said he's never seen it either and to take him straight to the Hospital.... WTF...i started freaking out at this stage... 3 hours at the hossy and we finally get seen by the dic. HE didnt know what it was and asked the senior doc who also didnt know what it was or the cause... So i just have to keep an eye on him... It seems to have calmed down a bit so fingers crossed it will be nothing.
DD is still having teething issues... She has started sucking on her tongue. If my mouth gets itchy or my ears are sore i do the same... she's been very quiet and not as talkative so will keep an eye on her also... few nights of 3+ wake ups again. last night i put her to bed at 8 she woke up at 11 so i wrapped her back up put the cot mobile on and went back to bed.... she went back to sleep... No dummy (cos she still wont take one) and no feed... So happy... She went till 7 this morning... Sorry to those not getting good nights sleep thou... dont mean to brag but such a nice change when you have several wake ups. We did some watermelon in the chewy sack thingy yesterday... Loved it at first but then didnt want it. DH gave her bananna in it in the arvo (was cross as i wanted to introduce 1 thing at a time) but she sucked on it for AGES. I made some watermelon balls nd popped them in the freezer for today.... even DS loves the frozen balls... (never thought of freezing watermelon before.)
Nana- I have to comprimise day sleeping for night sleeping... If DD sleeps well in the day i know we'll have a bad night.... BUT i;d rather have a cranky baby during the day then be waking up several times of a night. Hope you can get some sleep and you sort out the immunisations... Hopefully you wont have to cancel but FULLY understand if it comes down to DS's health...
Well GTG MIL is picking up DS for their day out... (basically just a shopping trip and DS gets milk shakes, donuts and lots more JUNK... glad its only once every few weeks... he'd be a fatty for sure... hehehe
Hope everyone else is well..
Oh Abb- sorry bout facebook, my DP was on mine when you sent the message... He didnt know who you were so didnt reply anything.... (men could have just said sorry its not Jess )
just poppin in quickly.
i tired jayda on food again yesterday and she was grumpy again. i guess leave her or should i keep going and let her get used to it?
Hi Everyone
No alot here to report again, just thought id come on and see how everyone else is going.
Sass - i am not sure if you should keep trying or not, i know some babies just prefer milk, my neice wouldnt eat solids until 7 months and i know my sis asked the mchn and they were not concerned as she was still having enough feeds and putting on weight. Might be best to just weight a few weeks and try again.
Jess - lol at your dh i thought it strange you didnt answer, but i understand now, men like to complicate things lol. I hope jordan's spots disappear soon, i am sure if he has no other symptoms he will be fine. My dd use to love frozen watermelon also, it is good on a hot day to quench thirst also.
NaNa- i was going to melbourne for the baby expo but had to cancel as dd had her entrance exam for secondary school saturday morning, i am glad now as i am sure i would have spent way too much money. Why did you not like it? It would be terribel to cancel your but health definelty comes first for sure. On the sleeping i find that if Hamish sleeps well during the day he also sleep well at night, i know some babies are the opposite, but if he is overtired he seems to wake alot, if that makes sense. I hope you get some well earned rest soon.
Mis tree - Good luck again for tomorrow, have my fingers crossed for you..
I am off to watch dp play cricket now , time to read a good book though lol..
sorry to those I missed yesterday...
we had a rough night again. I'm sick of it, but hey... boy-o wants to wake at 1 and 3 am, and wont resettle with me anymore. Every time I hold him he starts with the kicking/swinging punches/rocking business! DP had to take him from me last night coz I was in agony (my hip... dont know what's up with that), and now he is shattered and wishes he hadn't gone to football training yesterday. We're up again at 7 for a couple of hours, but DS is grumpy the whole time, then sleeps again for 2 hours. Aside from that, everything's fine!
Abb - the expo was ok, but I felt like there was a load of unnecessary, expensive stuff that a lot of pregnant women get sucked into buying. Don't get me wrong, I could have gone a bit silly with the credit card on some of the gorgeous MCN, but that would have been it. I was tempted but already got fluffy mail earlier in the week that I probably didn't need (need vs want nappies - how wrong is that??). But then, it was Saturday and hot and jam-packed with people and prams and it cost $8 for a cr@p sandwich and that may have clouded my judgement... and a security guy had a go at me for BF VERY DISCREETLY in a quiet corner of the foyer. There was a queue in the mothers room, and nobody else around out there, so WTF?! I hate that.
oh, sorry to vent... hope your DD went well in her exam! How exciting! High school - wow, that's a big deal.
I have to go again... time is not my own! Hope you're all having a great weekend!
NaNa- I would have blasted that security Guard... babies need to eat for god sakes... GRRRR.... The baby expos used to be good but arent so good anymore... I went few years back got TONNES of free samples and useful advice... now its all about money making.
Really sorry Aadi isnt sleeping well.... i have heard cammomile tea can help settle babies. there is a brauers stuff to help bubs settle to sleep. Not sure if its something you might consider. What about the bath stuff and lotions that are supposed to help soothe bubs or the baby bolsom is supposed to help.... (not just for colds) Last night i just went in as soon as DD made a noise wrapped her put the music on no light, no noise then walked out straight away... lucky for me she went back to sleep. i really hope you get ds to sleep soon... i know what its like my first was like that (waking every 2 hours for feeds.) Drop Aadi off here to you can have a snooze... big hugs....
Abb- Ohhh hope your DD went well on her exam... hope cricket was ok... did you get through your book..
Sass- DD has been unsettled a bit with the solids... i think here its the change in weather. maybe with the extra milk and solids she could be getting tummy aches... do you replace the milk with solids or is it on top of the milk??? I have been giving solids first then a small top up of milk (mainly to help with the constipation... figure the milk will make it less solid... (sorry TMI) i have been giving DD carrot sticks and apple slices to chew on... oh and rusks... seem to be keeping her ammused and i figured teaching herself hand eye co-ordination..
jess: well i tried her on a dif farex the banana and pear one. she loved it but it reacted with her. she doesnt have craddle cap but as soon as she has somethign that doesnt agree with her it flares up. its wat happened witht eh toehr milks as soon as we put her on HA it went away straight away.
So i will leave her awhile longer and when i do start her ill go fresh food not tin. i was giving her a bottle then a bit of food after. she would eat a whole jar if i kept feeding her and keep it all down.
i hope i hear back about one of the jobs this week. feels like its been too long lol. i guess most places let u know even if its a no.
We r going away sat night. mum is coming to look after jayda and we r goign out for tea and staying somewhere. the best thing is i can drink YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! heheh i am not a alco i swear lol. i drank once after having jayda then i went on a diet that had no alcohol.
we had a great weekend no ***** from anyone made a good difference lol
dunno wat is going on with jayda the other weekend we were at mums for bathurst and my bro had her nearlyt he whole time walkin around with her playing with her etc. then this weekend as soon as he would look at her she would scream.
thanks for the suggestions Jess, I'm trying everything. Last night was awful. It's not that DS has any trouble going to sleep as he goes to bed every night at 8ish with no hassles normally, but it's when he wakes up thru the night and wont resettle that's the problem. Normally it's not too hard to resettle him (before we moved, anyway) and I can usually manage it before he fully wakes up but last night was lots of sudden screaming, so I wouldn't be surprised if a tooth or two pop up in the very near future. I drink chamomile tea myself and have tried giving some to DS with fennel and anise to help with wind in the past but I guess I could try it again. We massage DS after his bath using almond oil with pure lavender oil, and have some in a burner in the room also. I refuse to use J&J products, but that's mainly because I can make much nicer things myself without all the petrochemicals! I give him (and myself) a homeopathic formula specifically for calming babies (and mum) while teething and irritable. Even panadol didn't have much effect last night, tho, and there wasn't much sleep happening between 12.30 and 6. I'm completely brain-dead, but I'm still hopeful that it will pass soon enough. It must be awful cutting your first teeth, and if this is how bad it is now then I'm not looking forward to the 2-year-old molars! The rest of the day DS is happy as can be, and you would never guess that he was a screeching demon at night. Gemini...
and yeah, I would have blasted the security guard too in normal circumstances, but I was in shock, and DS was just about asleep in my arms otherwise I woulda slapped him. Moron... I guess he feels he did his job that day, but seriously... he had to walk right up to me to see over the pram and even then I had a muslin wrap over DS and me. I was gobsmacked!
Sassy - I hope you hear back from one of the jobs at least. Have you called any of them? My DP is a recruitment consultant, and always recommends following up any application or interview just to get feedback, even if it's unsuccessful, so you can find out where you stand and what you could do differently. Hope you have a wonderful night away on the weekend!
NaNa- Gosh your having a rough time with bubs... I FULLY understand how bad it can be... Just glad my DD isnt like DS. (sorry not meaning to rub it in)... Have you thought about going to Tresillian??? They worked wonders on my friends bubs... 2 nights in a row now DD has woken up once and i go in cover her in blankets and put the music on and walk out again... Since she learnt to self settle things have been so much better. Are you feeding to sleep??? I now just pop DD down and let her go to sleep herself.... She cried for ages at the begining... (had to be tough) now she might cry a tiny bit but knows now that once she's on there its sleep time. I cant use johnsons on DD or DS. They have eczema so i need to use the cetahpil or similar products so i can avoid flair ups. What about a relaxation CD??? Pop a small CD player in and have the musoc going??? think i may have mentioned this... My DS needed to hear noises to stay asleep... (like the radio) or the projector music things (only they dont last long with a cranky bubs who doesnt want to settle. Really wish i could be more help... have any family or friends who could watch bubs so you can catch up on some sleep????
I HATE people who b!tch about BF when your doing it discretly. I can understand people having issues if your popping out your full breast then picking up bubs (like exposed for enough time for people to see... (still annoys me) but when your doing it discretly it *****s me... like who do they think they are... but i guess most people have never seen a BF women in REAL life...
Sass- if you think its having a bad affect (and only you'd know that) then maybe its best to hold off... I've started the chewy sack thing (not allowed to call it that here though) tomorrow i'll try carrots. a whole tinn seems like too much food to me (but every bubs is different) DD has max of 2 heaped teaspoons and only 1 feed a day for now. With the jobs i agree with NaNa- gove them a call- it shows your interested.
Have a drink for me also... And you could have met up with Mis_tree when you were in bathurst... i think she's also from there. Jayda could assosiate your brother with being away from you... but dont worry... DD wont go to ANYONE... My MIL has been having a fit that DD screams as soon as she takes her... Now i keep getting "she needs to come over more to get used to me"
NaNa - sorry to hear Aadi's having problems. Maybe check with your babyclinic to see if there is a sleep centre that you could go to. I know we've got one nearby for daysleep, a few people at mother's group have gone and they swear by it (even if baby sleeps 'ok' during the day they found it has helped overall). The main thing they have learnt and have shared is to have the same routine for sleeping, and give new routines at least 3 days to work, as draining as it might seem. They also encourage dummy's if it helps them sleep. And what an idiot that security guard at the baby expo. What amazes me is that it is a 'BABY expo, so of course there will be lots of babies there that will need feeding, if they didn't want people to feed there babies like that, they should have provided more feeding areas...must've been run by men!
Sassy - goodluck on those jobs. hope you have a nice night away. you will probably have a really good sleep after a drink or too, you'll hopefully feel totally recharged. On the solids, yeah maybe wait another week or so. At our parents class they recommended doing the food about 30mins after their milk, as the milk should still be the primary source of nutrients, the foods is just an extra and getting use to it and helps with their speech later on. I too intend on making fresh foods to try as I've seen alot of those jars/tins tend to have other things in it then what's on the label - eg - one of my friends bought a jar of pumpkin and couscous, but there we're big whole peas in it, so can't really trust the labels, this way if they do have a reaction you can work out what it is to.
Jess - I was thinking about getting some rusks for Cameron as thought it might help with the teething, would be better then gnawing on his little fingers. When they get a bit soggy, do they break off? I wasn't sure of this and wouldn't want him to choke, if i wasn't quick enough. hope Tiahna's just going through a faze not going to anyone, apparently I did that too about 5-6months old, as I wouldn't go to men. Made it very hard to get a picture of me with santa at my first xmas so mum says.
Abb - Cameron is much the same as Hamish, he sleeps better during the night if he sleeps good during the day. Do you mind watching the cricket? I find it a bit boring myself. DH played it when he was young, so I have told him that if Cameron wants to play cricket, he'll have to take him to the practises and games. I'll take him to everything else, don't mind soccer, or BMX (we have a track down the road), but I just don't do cricket.
MisTree - How did the Dr's and the hearing go today. How's Seth's pooping issues? I started to take metamucil again (i did when I first came home from hospital after having him) and it seems to be working, so far Cameron has been pooping everyday since I've taken it, it appears to go through him (the colour of the 'result' appears so IYKWIM).
Deancey - How are the solids going? Still doing the farex or apple for morning and sweet corn for dinner? Any poop issues with them? Has it helped Liam sleep any better?
Well as I mentioned Cameron's poop issues have seemed improved. It was making it a little difficult to feed, as he seemed to be in pain (like there was too much in the belly, he kept stretching and moaning after a feed), but since pooping everyday so far since Friday arvo he is much easier to feed. So all going well this week might try him on the farex this weekend. I just got the plain one, as was not sure about the banana as heard this can cause constipation, so will try that one in a few weeks. I also bought a bottle of the toddler pear juice just in case he gets a little binded up, but will keep drinking my metamucil as it seems to be helping. Looking forward to it. All going well will try potato in a couple of weeks, then will slowly introduce other vegies and fruits. I will try to leave the sweet things til last, but who knows I might give in early (as I love bananas and mangoes are coming into season, so intend to buy a box of them in the next week or two).
Nothing much else has happened here. Just keeping busy. Visiting friends, going shopping, housework etc. I'm going to start to look into child care, although won't need it til about May. Just figured if I want to have more choice on where he is to go, then I should start to look into it now. Also want to find out how much of a rebate we'd get, so I can work out how many days to do. I really don't want to go back to work, I'm enjoying being a mum. I will go back though, but would like to see if I could just do 2 or 3 days, with maybe just the 1 or 2 days in child care, my Mum will be able to look after him most days (except Thursdays which will probably be the childcare day).
Well I think I can hear Cameron stirring, almost time for his next feed - he's been asleep for 2 hours now (better then his previous 1 hrs sleeps, woohoo). Oh so far since Thursday night has started sleeping right through again (touching wood), til about 6-6.30, except I think the only reason he is waking at 6 instead of 7 is that he keeps flipping onto his belly - for the last 2 mornings I've found him like that. He's also trying to do raspberries, so far only managing bubbles and that airy noise. Oh, and he is starting to try to sit up. With a liitle help with us holding his hands he can pull himself up - then he seems so proud of himself afterwards - so cute.
Yep Cameron's awake now (can hear him talking away).
With the solid feed i just realised how it sounded... I dont replace the MILK feed... The soid feed and top up are an in between her regular feed. Just thought if jayda was eating a whole tin may be cos the milk was being replaced with solids. Hope it didnt sound like i was saying replace the milk feed with just solid...
The rusks are fairly hard. They do break away but they take a while... DD has started chimping so she makes a big dent in them but i just turn them round if she makes them that sogy they break a buit... I mainly use them to keep her quiet while i have her in the highchair while i eat dinner or cook. That way i can keep a close eye on her... I have been using the chew sack thing more now as i like the fact that they cant choke... although DD sucks so hard on the netting that it has gaged her a bit so no more laying down and sucking on it. Only sitting in the chair or propped up now... DD has NEVER gone to anyone (except the 1st week or 2) only just started going to DP... Everyone is getting cranky but deep down i couldnt give a hoot... I love that she's a mummies girl... hehe
Bec i hear you on the cricket.. My BIL plays.... **YAWN** I already told DP basketball, football, soccer, anything but golf and cricket... DP already wants DS to get a motorbike... With childcare alot of places have a waiting list so best check round early. I'm starting up a little at home business witha friend... hopefully it'll be enough to keep me at home...
Also i have noticed if DD is well rested through out the day she is sleeping better at night also... you may be on to something...
well best be off DD is ready for bed... Gets cranky from 7 and wantss her bed...
