Bella - what a lovely gesture - and yay to your dad for helping out! don't let anyone make you feel embarrassed for doing a good deed - and don't worry about people being judgemental about the surrogacy/paternity of your friends (and their surrogates) child - it doesn't make a rats difference as long as the children are looked after! it's annoys me when people judge - they're not living it! i guess i feel fairly passionately about this given i have lived the infertility trail for a reasonably long time - and you truly start to contemplate every option. i also have, at times, considered embryo donation to a friend in need if i could help them achieve their dream (not that i have the greatest quality embryos - but ykwim)

Naomi - love the commando crawling! sounds like something i would do lol as to weights - E was last weighed at 14 weeks (about 10 days ago) and was 5.426kg, gaining a little under 120g per week - so Bailey's weight and his gain sound pretty damn good to me!

not a lot else - just got back from my folks place where we had home cooked pizza for dinner. they bought a gas fired pizza oven a while back so we all rocked up there and had yummy pizza for dinner - was divine - best pizza i've had in a loooooong time!!! i even got brave and left DD there while i went to grab DH from the truck so he could eat there too. at least mum and SIL can't argue over who "babysat" first - they were both there lol she was asleep - wouldn't have left otherwise!

Im feeling a bit better, so thought I'd pop in and say a quick hello.

Cathy- I left Jake and Zacs dad when they were 6m, so I can relate to being a single parent. As long as you and the kids are happy, thats all that matters.

I have been looking for accommodation in Melbourne for November, and think I may have found a place. Its just up from the Vic market. Its a serviced apartment, so has a full kitchen. We are bringing an esky with us, so we may be able to bring some cold stuff.

Bella- You can come eat with us on the Sunday night if u like. I was also thinking that if ur going to stay the Sunday night, I could get a room with an extra bed, and u and Jemima can crash with us. Im taking a portacot for Logan, but they have told me that the extra bed is a double sofa bed. We are staying the Saturday night and the Sunday night. Mum is having Jake and Zac for me, so it will only be me, leigh and logan. If u like, I could try and find a spare car seat for Jemima, and that way we could transport u guys around.

AFU, I had a good chat with a friend of mine today, about one of the issues Im having at the moment. It felt better to get it out. Im also really struggling with the boys behaviour at the moment, and thats what sparked the meltdown. They arent listening to me, and they seem to want to wreck anything and everything. After them seeing me crying on Friday night, I think they worked out I was serious, and that they had upset me, which Mum seems to think they might take some notice now. They stayed with my Mum on the Friday night, and we picked them up on Saturday, and they said they missed us, so I guess they really do love me.

Arrrgghh. Sorry for having a whinge. Might be back in the next few days to do some persies.

Hey Bridg, babe. Good to hear that you're feeling a little better. Oh, I can so relate to having a kid that doesn't listen to you... but of course with two it just means double that frustration at times I am sure. I'm so glad you've got good support IRL to get you through. Of course your boys love you - you are the most important person in their lives. It's great that they told you they missed you. Sometimes we just need to hear it.
Your apartment sounds good. We stayed in places like that while on holiday in NZ when Natty was little. I reckon places with kitchens are absolutely the best. Sometimes you don't want to eat out - you just want a sandwich or a bowl of cereal.
Vic: LOL @ being a train/tram geek - I used to be one too :) (Well, we don't have trams here, but certainly I knew everything about traveling on the train!) I haven't been a public transport nerd for years though as the last two houses we've lived in have had hopeless or zero public transport options. I am desperate to take Natty on a train, though - given that she loves all things Thomas and Chuggington. Just don't think I can manage it with the two of them...
Okeys, I will note down that we'll meet up at DFO. As for exchanging numbers, maybe we can start up a big PM on FB? If I get on there tonight I'll start it up.
Kat: So glad Ivy is on the up-and-up. So stressful having an unsettled bub.
Naomi: I had a quick look at the CYH website the other day and it really is very good. I couldn't find the wonder week stuff though... although I didn't look very hard. The stuff I did read was good - read the toilet training pages and the article about yelling. (When I get frustrated with Natty I have only a small tether and I often spit the dummy :( )
I keep meaning to make an appt for Phoebe at the MCHN but keep forgetting! Will try to remember to make it later this morning.
Tops that we will be arriving in Melbs at a similar time. I am soooooo looking forward to this trip! Was telling DH tonight that we're starting to make more plans, and he's excited for me too :)
Nicky: All the best for the kick-starting the weight loss. I think the walks in the evening sounds divine... I'd love to be able to do that, but DH doesn't get home til Natty's bedtime. It's a bummer cause I'm so lazy in the mornings, so doubt I'll be motivated to get out. Lately I have taken the girls on a walk in the early afternoon, but on the weekend it was just too hot so I doubt we'll do that much once it starts being regularly that hot. I decided to weigh in every fortnight on the wii fit. The first fortnight I put on 200g, LOL! But the second fortnight I did well and lost 1.4kg. But this last fortnight I put on the 400g again. Am so crap at this.
Bella: Pfft, LMAO @ the super mum auditions! Sometimes it feels like that, but certainly there's NEVER a smile in place ;) If I've got two babies on one hip, am cooking and kicking the crap out of DH then I'm usually yelling about it too, LOL! Or crying.
I think you did a great thing re donating your BM. That's awesome. I hope that if I had a friend who needed milk that I'd be able to help them out. What a shame about her hip... Not only the sadness of not being able to BF but, wow @ having to look after a baby after surgery like that! I imagine there'd be loads of rehab taking place at the same time... Good on you for supporting her.
Jess: We have similar troubles at mealtimes here. I don't know what to do about it either. Sometimes I just think, it's a phase to get through... then I remember that my DH is an absolute shocker with food and I panic, LOL!
BG: Oh, I adore woodfire pizza! How awesome that your folks have their own pizza oven!!! That's tops. Can you cook anything else in there? I imagine it'd be good for bread too? Sounds like E is doing great with her consistent gains.

Well, I'm hoping my munchkin has gone off to sleep - fed her @ 3 and she was wide eyed and bushy tailed afterwards :doh: So after rocking her for a while to no avail, I just decided I'd put her in bed and see what happens. Haven't heard anything for a little while now so maybe I'm in luck and she's gone off to sleep.

Bridg - nice to hear from you (well, more than PM's on FB anyway!) - i can only imagine how difficult it is having little people rebelling against you - it's bad enough when it's one, but when it's two to stir each other along, it just sounds nasty. in a way, it probably is good that they have seen the impact on you, and, as much as it's a given that they love you, it's nice that they let you know

Amy - my folks got their pizza oven ages ago (before last Christmas) but hadn't really cooked more than one or two pizza for themselves, which didn't turn out real good. their "gotta have" people - have to have everything that they MIGHT use - but it usually just sits there after the novelty wears off. anyway, last night was the first night we'd all used it - and it works brilliantly - you just have to monitor it. last Christmas we cooked vegies and things in there for the roast lunch - worked ok, but again, they didn't watch it (i was too crook, and my bro had three kids to deal with) so stuff got over cooked a little. but only on one level - the others were fine (it has three shelves). they want to experiment with doing a roast in it (cos obviously the oven, the bbq with oven top and the other cooker for roasts aren't enough) - i'm sure it will work - i've just told them that they HAVE to put a lid on the roast otherwise it will end up mighty grotty and then no one will want to use it. we made garlic and cheese pizza to start, then the kids all made their own pizza (and ate it cos they knew what was on it) - and then we made our own pizzas - DH and I had cheese, bacon, chicken, capsicum, pineapple, cheese and egg - drooooool. loving the idea of leftovers for lunch!

well, not sure what happen with E last night. she woke during the night which is really unusual for her. i wish she could tell me what was wrong! i "think" she might have had a bad dream. she got a fright last night when i was putting her in the car - one of her toys touched her in the dark and she freaked out big time. she was unsettled until she went to sleep for the nigh - so i am guessing it's something like that...

Bridg - great to hear from you, glad to hear things are better for you, we missed you too. I hope your boys listen to you a little more - it must be a tough gig with three little ones. Feel free to whinge or vent to us anytime :) I hope we can be of some support for you

Amy - yeah, its handy that we will arrive at a similar time. I remember there was a Starbucks or Gloria Jeans in the DFO entry from the train station side (I think), maybe we could all meet there. I'll be the one with the red stroller (instead of a red rose like in the movies when strangers meet LMAO)

Well we had our paed appt today and I'm still processing the info our lovely paed discussed with me. He is a bit concerned that Bailey is so little, and the delayed gross motor skills - but more in the sense that by his measurements Bailey has dropped a percentile from a length perspective, he feels that he is growing 'ok' and feeding is not an issue but we talked about family history etc as Bailey may grow to be on the short/little side. He sent us off to the womans and childrens this afternoon for some xrays on femur, spine, skull and whatever the arm bones are called and has referred Bailey for some physio so just need to wait for the hosp to call us to schedule him in for that. (Interestingly Baileys femurs measured on the small side inutero at the 20 week scan but at the 32 week scan they seemed to think all was fine). He suggested I promote tummy time as much as possible - and said the time is right for Bailey to start solids to help accelerate his growth, but reasured me that the breastfeeding is perfect, but as we are 5 months next week to get started with solids. He was really positive and said that Bailey may catch up in a few months or may take longer but in the overall scheme of things its not a life impacting issue. His social skills and fine motor are normal. So pending the outcome of the xrays (as that will give some further indication of growth etc) we will go back to see him in 3 months at the latest, unless of course the xrays outcome generates a call back earlier. I was a bit teary when discussing it with DH as although there is nothing 'dramatic' wrong, I would like him to be growing and developing at the 'normal' rate, and we always worry about our little ones, and these issues have been worrying me for a few months, I feel really flat and worried, although the Paed was so lovely and supportive. I guess I was hoping the paed would send me home and tell me to stop being a paranoid mother but instead congratulated me for picking up on these things - DOH! He also talked about some techniques to try to get Bailey sleeping for longer through the night as he feels 10-12 hours of uninterrupted sleep is important for growth and development too, so hopefully with the introduction of solids and settling through instead of feeding I can gradually drop one feed at a time - I dont want to introduce too many changes at once as its unfair to Bailey so will just plug away.

So anyway, I tried the little guy on some rice cereal after his afternoon feed and he ate about half which was good, so will try again tomorrow and follow the CYH 'solids' guidelines and ramp up the solids as we go. It was funny as he screwed up his face as we were feeding - I must post a little video on facebook, have posted some pic's

DS was 9 pounds (just over 4kgs) at birth. At 6 months, he was below the 10th percentile for weight. I was slightly worried, but my MCHN said all was fine.
At 12 months, he weighed 8.6kgs. He was doing really well with most things, but just a bit scrawny. He was comp fed... I breastfed when possible and I gave him some formula when required. You would think that the formula may have added some extra on his bones. He never had bones poking out. He rolled after 4 months, sat just after 6 months and walked at 10.5 months (which is pretty early) and did everything he was meant to by 12 months of age.
He was always average length and he has always had a big head.
At 2 years of age, he had hit 13 kgs and was spot on 50th percentile. He was just one of those active kids who took a while to take off. He's a very happy healthy boy who is still quite slender, but looks healthy.
I dont know if any of that helps. My MCHN was never worried because although he was dropping percentiles, he was never losing weight. He always gained. He always had wet and poopy nappies. He ws doing things he was meant to do in his own time (which mostly was quite early I spose).
They all have their own growth patterns, their own time that they decide to do things. Every child is different and what one can do another won't be able to.

DS was FULL on. He never really slept very well which I acutally think did really hinder his growth, because once he hit 12months and started sleeping, he started growing.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know about my experience. That just because they drop a percentile, it doesn't mean that there's anything wrong:) (heck, DS dropped from above the 90th to below the 10th in a matter of months.)

No worries. I hope at least some of it was helpful. I remember him walking around at 13 months, and people asking me how old he was. When I replied with his age, they all looked at me like I was on drugs. Many people commented he looked like he was only just over 6 months old! So get used to people saying how 'skinny' or 'little' your man is, and just ignore it. I used to comment that 'he must have got the awesome metabolism that I missed out on', or 'lucky, because at least that way he'll never get as big as his mum! '

Oh and forgot to add, He's just as big if not bigger height wise than others his age. He doesn't look any different.

I just added my first videos to FB! haha. Chubba is still waffling on 30 minutes later. Blabber mouth.

Naomi: Wow @ your paed appt... Lots to process there. All I can do is offer my thoughts and virtual hugs as you try the new things and get the results of the imaging (the arm bone is the humerus :) ). I am glad the paed was supportive - I think that makes all the difference. (FWIW, Natty never stayed on the same centile either. She went up to the 50th, then down to the 25th... but no one minded I suppose because the 25th isn't that small.) Had to LOL @ the vid of Bailey eating solids. I have photos of Natty pulling the same face! "OMG, what is this crap in my mouth?". Natty's fave first food was pear. That's what got her convinced that solids were a-ok. Really, I hope you are doing ok after the appointment. :hug:
BG: We have done a roast in a camp oven in the fire before when camping. So yum.
I'm sorry about E's bad dream :( I remember talking to a friend when Natty was about this age and her little bub had been waking screaming. She thought bad dream but couldn't work out what would scare her enough to have nightmares at this age? It is so hard to know what gets into their minds. But my friend half-jokingly suggested a squirt of milk in the face! (She did it several times to her DD who cried her little heart out each time, poor poppet.)
Nicky: Love the videos! Allira is just gorgeous. Watched them @ 4am this morning while settling the girl so didn't comment, but I thought they were great. And wow @ the footage of her getting up on her knees :) The back arch she has going is just great!

Had a bit of a rough one last night. Phoebe went to sleep under the playgym at 6:30-ish. She was so tired after catnapping all day yesterday. I transferred her to bed without any problem, but I think I should've had a go at feeding her first. She slept til 3:30 which was great, but then woke every hour after that. Not so great, LOL! Tried to book in to the MCHN this Thus but couldn't get an appointment. So we are going on Monday. We haven't been for a month and a half, so I'm really keen to see how she is getting on. Will have to see a different nurse though, which is a shame. I really like the Thursday nurse.
Natty and DH are playing trains and singing the theme to Playschool. Ah, they crack me up sometimes. She is very like him. He also has a similar whinge going - "Oh, no! I don't have enough track pieces! This was going to be the best track ever, but now it's just ordinary..." *Sigh* Just as well all three of my children are cute. ;)
Oh yes, loved the pics from your meet-up yesterday, girls! Those babies are gorgeous! (And their mummies too:) )

Just a quick post before go to the cinema - The Young Victoria this morning - a few of us from Mothers Group are going as have been waiting for this one to come on mums and bubs. CJ is still asleep though for her morning nap, as usual sleeping for longer because I am waiting to go out, so now I either wait and put up with her crying while walking to the cinema, or wake her and feed her so she will be happy till get there. (Ha can't remember if mentioned it here but she now will day nap in her cot because I have made a string of AFL Tazo things that you get in crisps for her to look at - maybe by the age of three she will be able to sing all the AFL songs too!)

BG - I don't know if CJ is having bad dreams either, at both night and during the day she has started letting out this "I am really scared" cry - but she doesn't wake in - I have rushed in to see what is up and she is still asleep, or putting herself back to sleep. She has done quite a few times so doesn't worry me so much any more as is always ok. The only other time I have heard the same scream is when she hears the water go down the plughole - she seems terrified by it.

Hi girls, gosh I've missed you all. I've just been soooo busy (and sick, lol). Thankfully both Kyson and I are over the cold now. He didn't get it too bad anyway. Just a bit of sniffles, a little cough and a few sneezles here and there. I hated that he had a cough, but it was the cutest little cough I've ever heard, hehe.

Vic and Kat - It was so good to meet you and your little princesses yesterday! They are both super adorable. How cute were the three babies on the ground together?! I love the photo you got Vic of Kyson showing his disgust at the "girl cooties" hehehe.

BG - Sorry we didn't get to meet you and E yesterday. We're very much looking forward to the next meetup so you can come too!

Amy - Sorry to hear about your rough night last night. Gosh I'm looking forward to when Kyson sleeps through the night and I get more than 2-3 hours sleep at a time. I really should have appreciated that more when I had it, lol. You're "older son" sounds very cute ;)

Naomi - I know how you feel when you say you can't help but worrying about things, but I just wanted to tell you that you have what the rest of us keep complaining that we want; a baby that doesn't grow so quickly! ;) Enjoy his smallness now because I'm sure that he'll shoot up soon and you'll wish that he was little again :hug:

I'm super glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better. I can't even imagine what it would be like to raise two little munchkins on your own for a while. And I still can't imagine what it's like now that you have Logan plus two littlies running riot! My main problem is my eldest DSS (12 year old) with ADHD. He's in year 7 and causing us some grief. He just does stupid things that he knows is wrong, but still does them. Like the other day he decided that it would be a good idea to go Coles before school and buy some energy drinks (like V or Redbull) and take them back to school. During a class he went to his locker and brought them back into his class. Of course they got confiscated and then he was swearing about the teacher under his breath in her hearing range. Just stupid. Oh, and it was the day after we watched a segment on the a news program together about the dangers of kids drinking the energy drinks, and how it changes their heartrates etc... When asked why he did it? "I thought it would be cool" Grrrrrr!!!

Amy - Bailey has thrush, I remember Phoebs did a little while ago - I got some nilstat from the chemist, but the directions are quite vague - just 1ml x 4 times a day, but the lady in the chemist told me to give it after a feed (obviously I feed more than 4 times a day LOL) - do you remember how much and when you gave Phoebe the guff?

Naomi:Aw, sorry mate. TBH, I just gave it when I thought of it. Only reason for giving it after the feed is so it doesn't all get washed away. We did once after the first feed and once after the last feed (though sometimes this one got washed away if she needed a top-up to get to sleep) and then just somehow fit another two in the middle. LOL, sorry! Not a whole lot of help. I hope it clears up quickly. Tip - use a bib. That stuff is a WHACKED OUT colour and P had it on the neckline of all her clothes.
Krystie: Sorry, I shouldn't moan about getting woken at night when she does do a pretty good stretch most nights. I can't imagine how stressful it must be with teen-aged kids. I am dreading that age. Whenever I find Natty challenging I shall just try to remember that one day she'll be a teenager and this age will feel like a walk in the park by then.
Vic: I am dead keen to see that movie - how was it?

Ok. I'm going to try to convince Natty that its bedtime. She is feral tired. I have already had dinner in case Phoebe falls asleep early again, LOL! Don't want to miss any sleep time tonight... how sad am I?!?

Krystie - glad to hear you and Kyson are better!! You're right, I'd love to keep my baby a little baby for ever, but I still want him to develop at the normal rate etc, I think I started worrying the day I got pregnant, and I'll worry forever now that he is ok, its just a Mummy thing isn't it?

Bailey is going well with solids - I discovered he much prefers farex made with breast milk or formula rather than just plain boiled water. I gave him a teensy bit of mashed banana last night - he loved it LOL. I'm gonna try potato and pumpkin next week, and then maybe pear and apple the week after :)

Hi everyone!
Naomi sounds like solids are going really well! I'm excited to start solids, but then again, I don't want to either. LOL I remember the mess all too well. I can't believe our bubs are starting to get to that stage already! I'll probably hang out with Allira until at least 6 months, because she's doing so well on milk only at the moment.
Oh I remember DS starting solids like it was last week! Time goes too fast!

How is everyone? Not alot happening here. Allira's 4 month appt is next week... I've been a bit slack making the appt. She also has her needles coming up in a week or 2... we were late with those aswell poor second child. LOL
Osteo appt went really well. Allira's head shape is nearly perfect now. We don't go back for another month now because she's reacting so well to the treatment. Osteo is pretty much just working on her reflux now. She also commented that she wouldn't be surprised is Allira was sitting in a month:( Sad face because I don't want her to grow so quickly. It's weird feeling both really happy with how quickly she is growing, and also really sad. I will never experience this again and I just want it to go on for a bit longer. Before I know it, the kids will be at school!!

My 'diet' (aka lifestyle change) has been going well. I really haven't cheated much at all which I'm happy with. I've been drinking so muhc more water and I already notice how much less moddy I am. I jumped on the wii the other day and apparently I've lost 3.4kgs in 15 days which is fab, because apart from the monday night classes, I have only been 'trying' since Monday. I'm sure it's got alot to do with the classes.
Ok enough waffle from me. Better check on dinner, as it's in the slow cooker.... I can smell it and it smells fantastic!
Going to have a hit of tennis with DH tonight and the kids will come outside and have a play.

Nicky: Well done on the weight loss! That's awesome. IKWYM about the growing happening too quickly. I have been sorting clothes (just got rid of a whole lot of winter 000 stuff to make way for more summer 00 stuff. Saying goodbye to some of those gorgeous little outfits (that hardly got worn!) has been very sad.
That's brilliant that Allira has responded so well to the osteo treatment. I didn't realise she had reflux. Does she get upset by it?
Naomi: LOL, it is like bile, hey? I am glad it seems to be working. I couldn't even see the thrush properly in the first place, so I don't know how long it took to work on Phoebe.
Absolutely, the worrying is part of Mummyhood. Also your instincts are to be applauded. Good on you for seeking out the paed's opinion, even if it turns out Bailey is just destined to be a small person. You know your kid better than anyone else, so bravo for following up on something that was worrying you. I hope the solids do the trick and kick start a big growth spurt :)

Natty is going through a mega tanty phase atm. They are just spectacular. I thought we'd gotten through the worst but it seems she's stepped it up a notch. She is getting a cold though, so that could be affecting her mood...
We had a pest inspection today and the guy was really great - I remember him from a couple of years ago actually. He even sat down with me and had a chat, LOL. He has 6 kids, the youngest in year 10. He asked me about the births of my girls! LOL, it was hillarious to be chatting about childbirth with a relative stranger of a man. Anyhoo, his birth stories were pretty funny.
Phoebe has been just lovely today. She's been really happy and I've gotten loads of smiles. Still haven't heard that laugh again though... I'm just not funny enough.

Amy - Allira is a happy chucker just like her brother. I've never really referred to it as reflux but every other health professional does. It doesn't bother her at all, but it bothers me when I have to change her 4 or 5 times a day. I have around 150 spew cloths and I nearly run out all the time.

Ooooh Nicky - DOH that Allira is such a chucker, I didn't realise. Wow re the changing clothes - thats ALOT of washing!!! I am a bit naive to baby chuck, Bailey loves his food too much to give it back up (like his Mum and Dad LOL) and he's only chucked maybe twice - one projectile after I stupidly rocked him too soon after a feed....... :doh: He's not bad at the other end though - a legendary Poo-er!!!! hehehehe

Amy - sorry to hear Natty's having such a tough faze - hope she brightens up for you - be sure to take some photo's/footage of a tanty so you can embarrass her at her 18th or 21st LMAO!! Great to hear Phoebe is so content and happy! I must say that solids really agree with Bailey and he seems more happy and energetic, but also sleeping better too, I think they are just filling him up so he has that content fullness (almost like I feel after pigging out on xmas day when I need an afternoon nap hahaha). He is now sleeping from 6-630 through to about 1230-1am so has definately dropped that late evening feed. I am going to give him a few weeks and then settle him through the 3-4am wake without a feed too so I am only feeding once a night, then aim to drop that one down the track........... then my plan is to lose the dummy, but I want him sleeping through the night first as its one of my 'back to sleep tools' currently (my plan sounds great in theory, hope I can pull it off hehehehe)

This is gonna seem like the dumbest question, but regarding the babies sleeping through - do the nappies hold it all in for 10-12 hours? The most Bailey has gone between nappy changes is maybe 7 hours and its like a frigin brick its so heavy, so once he starts sleeping through the night I am worried he will wake up soaking wet - do you wake your baby to change their nappy or just hope for the best? (I'm talking wee here - I wouldn't leave a poo in there!!). I use Huggies, I guess they would hold a bit more .......??

I'm off to have an early night and watch Dirty Dancing in bed - I was sad to hear that Patrick Swayze had passed away - Dirty Dancing marked the beginning of my sexual awakening as a young teenager LMAO :ROFL: DH has gone to poker, so its just me, Johnnie and Baby - 'cos no-one puts baby in the corner :)

Not a long one for me cos I need to go chill on the couch.

Jemima has turned into an all night feeder for the last 4 nights. Last night was the worst! Ussually she goes to be at 8 but her earliest wake up prior to last night was 1230 and i was shocked.... Well last night it was 1030 just as we were going to bed and so I was up.. she wouldn't go back down till 1230, so I stayed up. then 3am, 5am and 6am at which point i put her in bed with me. She isn't feeding well during the day, just kinda having little drinks not real meals iykwim? She is too interested in the rest of the world to sit still for a drink..... then co she doesn't drink during the day i think my supply is slowing. Some people r suggesting a growth spurt and i would believe it if she wanted to drink as much during the day as she does at night but she doesn't! She just wants to play around.. I made her her bf necklace but that only seems to work when there is only a moderate amount of distraction around.not when there is heaps.

Vic and Bridg... thanks for your lovely invites! I will have a think and decide what works best for us as we get closer to the date.

Naomi- My heart goes out to you after your paeds appoint. one thing i have been told by alot of bf mothers is that as long as the head circumference is increasing as normal that the weight isn't a problem... i don't know much more than that tho.. *hugs* i guess my isnstinct is to tell you to listen to everyone but listen to your own instinct more and believe in yourself as a mum. you will know what is best for Bailey, you just need to trust yourself.

Ive been lurking for a few days, so thought I'd write a quick post.

Naomi- Forgot to say LMAO at the commando crawl!! Glad the solids are doing Bailey the world of good.

Bella- Sorry to hear Miss Jemima isnt sleeping and feeding well. Ive never BF so I cant be any help sorry. I can give u a hug though.

Amy- Sorry to hear Natty has been having tanties. Jake and Zac are masters at throwing tanties, so I can sympathise with u on that one.

Nicky- Jake and Zac had reflux but they were screamer chuckers. I know what u mean about changing clothes a dozen times a day!

Krystie- Im sure u would be allowed to say that on here. Bugger about the DSS giving u grief. Im not looking forward to the teens at all, coz I know what Leigh was like when he was that age! :rolleyes:

AFU, Well my aunty is over from NZ. I havent seen her since Jake and Zac were 2m old, so Im looking forward to seeing her tomorrow. Logan is going well. Growing veeerry fast. I got him weighed a few weeks ago (not sure if I told u guys), and he weigh 6410g!

We are using Baby Love nappies. We find that they hold a fair bit. I always change Logan before his last bottle for the night, and in the morning its fairly full. He has only ever had a few leakages overnight, but thats either coz his little friend wasnt pointing the right way, or daddy didnt put his nappy on properly.

Bailey slept 9 hours uniterrupted last night (from 7pm - 4am) - Thankyou SOLIDS!!

He was gasping for a feed at 4 - LOL, just about chewed my boobs off LMAO

Amy - Natty's tantrums sound less than enjoyable! E already has tantrums (which my family pick on - really annoys me - whats the point in laughing loudly at a crying baby - just makes them worse grrrrr).

Bridg - hope you have a great time catching up with your aunt today! i caught up with a cousin at my bro's last night - i haven't seen D in over 10 years. didn't know he'd married and had kids - stupid family estrangement crap! apparently he was visiting his dad (lives in bro's street) on Fathers Day and just decided to knock on the door! he and his family are spending the weekend with my bro's family, so we went in there for dinner. was really nice. E was thankfuly a pretty good girl, but SIL and one of her friends were pulling faces at the tired poppet and got her upset, then kept laughing and stirring her up til she was really distressed, so i got grouchy at them, took her and went to feed her. it's not often that i get aggro at SIL, but it just annoyed me so much! we were there pretty late watching the footy, and she'd been really well behaved - they didn't need to stir her
i am exhausted this morning now!

well, having a crabby couple of days at the moment. DH effectively lost his job on Thursday morning - no warning. just told to pack his stuff up, his boss was picking him up. no longer full time but being kept on as a casual (we think it's to get around a loop hole so they don't have to pay him out in lieue of notice). so it's been a lot of upheaval!. spent time yesterday trying to do up a resume (with 25 years work history and he's never had to apply for a job - always been a case of him falling into them!). we're a little stressed, but we'll cope i'm sure.

Naomi - Sounds like you need info on overnight nappying quicksmart - Go Bailey. CJ goes 12 hours in one nappy overnight, we mainly use cloth nappies (Green Kids with full size bamboo insert and a small microfibre) - but have successfully used babylove ones overnight on the odd occasion and they are very heavy by morning, and sometimes have swelled so much are difficult to get out from under brace. We will be using disposables when we go to the UK so wanted to try them out. As Bella said when they are in a deep sleep they wee less, and I also find that the first nappy I put on in the morning doesn't last as long - a bit like us grown ups I suppose big wee's when we get up. I can't remember the last time CJ did a poo overnight, but I always tell her is fine to wake me up if she does :-)

CJ had odd grouchy moments the past couple of days, is always after her dad is off work, he is working this weekend but had Thur, Fri off - she just gets too excited being with him (I left him with her the other day while had CPR for babies at mothers group and he was trying to teach her to play tennis - has some crackpot idea about her becoming a tennis star and earning a fortune to keep us in our old age :-) - we are both pretty uncoordinated although big triers when comes to sport so don't think she stands a chance - but he and Geoffrey (hippo toy named after Geoff Boycott) roll the ball between them and then to her!. She has also learnt that if she arches her back when in her bouncer can make it bounce loads - they say when they learn new stuff can make them cranky so maybe that is it.

Well off to supermarket but will be back later - DH is working till late tonight, so I get chance to catch up on net!

I am so sorry about your DH's job, BG. That sucks. I hope he finds something really soon that's even better than where he is now.
Naomi: I still change P first thing (usually between 3 and 5am) but it could last til the next feed probably. If you're not feeding him as often then he won't have as much to wee out :) However, if he keeps filling the nappy and it leaks out, you can use a booster (a cloth one or a hefty sanitary pad) to stop the nappy leaking.

Sorry it's a quick one from me... Am about to do the kids-to-bed followed by serve-up-n-eat-dinner routines. But don't reckon I'll be on again tonight. So tired lately. xx

Amy - Baileys thrush seems almost gone, I think the label said to keep using the nilstat for a few days after to ensure its gone. Bailey HATES the guff, and I wont let him have the dummy after I give it to him otherwise he'll just suck it all away, so have been distracting him while giving it to him - he makes the most screwed up face when he tastes it - its pretty funny!! Oh, the little bugger bit my nipple, actually broke the skin with his ONE tooth - I have a little scab LOL, the next few times I BF him I was fearful - who would have thought that BF was a contact sport hehehehehe. Oh - and whats with the 'Space Family Hudson'? You have me curious :)

Well solids are going well - so far the little guys is loving everything - Farex (with BM or formula, turns his nose up when made with just boiled water), mashed banana - LOVES, mashed pumpkin - LOVES, mashed potato - LOVES - we are going well. Will stick to these three things this week and try something different next weekend - maybe pear and brocolli. Today he did 4 poo's - and they are getting more solidish and smelly - eeeeeewwww!! I think it might actually be the thrush medicine that is making him poo quite a bit rather than the solids though!!

Right - I'm off to bed to watch some DVDs with DH - he has the man-flu so I have two babies currently :) We have the box set of 'King of Queens' which is frigin hilarious so will watch some of that....

mine has the same plans for E - apparently she's going to be the first female to break into professional AFL side (Geelong of course!), or play professional tennis/golf so that we can travel with her when she's older. if she can't do any of them, she has to shack up with a Geelong player - so that she can get Daddy into all the games!

not a whole heap going on here - went to NaeNae's baby shower today and finally got to meet her (if we meet half way, it's only about 25 mins driving each - but it hasn't happened yet) - was a really good day. few other BB'ers there. really nice day out. E was really good. she did get upset at one point - tired poppet and lots of people around, so the pipe wasnt enough to get her off to sleep - boobie and she was gone - was really nice! she slept most of the way there (thanks baby girl!) through some really shocking winding roads, and the same on the way back which was great. i was a bit worried that she would start crying on the road cos there is no where at all to pull up for nearly 15kms of road at about 50ks - but she was just really good. talked to her new bestest buddy Eddie the Elephant the whole way (well, the bits that she was awake!). she's piked now for a while which is really good for her.

had a panic moment this morning. E wakes up every morning between six and seven - it's almost a guarantee. this morning i woke at 8.30, couldn't hear her over DH's breathing - and I freaked out. couldn't go and check her myself - had to send DH to check her! oops! she was fine - feed, nappy change, feed, and back to sleep - and then i realised she was going to still be asleep when we had to leave so i had to organise all the stuff i had to take, and then wake her to leave. thankfully she was still in a good mood!

ooh, maybe i did have a bit to waffle about lol!

one last thing - i think E has decided she's older and more capable than she really is. there were three other bubba girls there today - between 7 and 9 months old - and she wanted to be down on the floor with them (so i put her down) but she was getting frustrated that she couldn't do the same as them. she was at her happiest when she was on my knee and Ruby (raven's DD) was up beside her !

Nicky: Am glad Allira isn't bothered by the chucking. Will watch the FB vid after I get off BB - looking forward to hearing her :) P gets very noisy and squealy at times... I think its a girl thing. Seriously, at playgroup the girls (Natty particularly) squeal when they get excited. Takes a bit to calm them down! I think it's instinctive, LOL. We like Aldi nappies here too. Both girls wear them overnight and if we've run out of cloth cause I've been too lazy to wash.
Bella: I hope you are doing ok and getting some rest. :hug: Sleepless nights are really the worst. IRT J's daytime feeding, have you considered a 'booby holiday'? Where you curl up in your jarmies all day with your bubba and offer the boob everytime she looks at you. Have DVDs at hand, and easy snacks all prepared so nothing interrupts your boob time. Preferably just the two of you and with minimal distractions around. Might be something to try to encourage her to feed more during the day?
Bridg: Hope you have been having a good time catching up with your Aunt. Bugger, I had hoped the tanties would stop by the time she got to 4! Sorry the boys still carry on. Today she went mental when we left SIL's house - didn't want to leave. She carried on for most of the 25min trip home then promptly fell asleep. BUT she had another spack attack after her bath. I still don't know what I did wrong, LOL! But she yelled and fussed for mmm... about 20 minutes? I just ignored her and went about my business... what can you do?
Vic: I love the tennis! I think that's brilliant. I understand the cranky after Daddy has been around. It is an issue moreso with Natty for us, but I get it. And LOL @ her learning to bounce herself in the bouncer! That's great! Less for you to do, LOL ;)
Jacinta: Glad you had a good time at your mum's party. Phew, I reckon I'd be pretty scarred if I was at a party with a stripper and my mum, LOL!
Naomi: Oh, OUCH! @ the biting on the boob! Phoebe does it - I am dreading her getting teeth. Actually I was thinking of videoing her on the boob tonight cause she was just too cute. She sucks a bit, then clamps down and swings her head around to look wide-eyed at me and then GRIN a cheeky grin. So evil! And so bloody cute. She did it about 3 times tonight and I wished I had the video going. Of course I don't want to encourage it, but it's so hard when they're so gorgeous about it, LOL!
I am SOOOOO pleased for you @ Bailey's sleeping! How lovely to be getting some blocks of sleep. And glad he's enjoying the solids.
Space Family Hudson: Right, have you heard of Charlie and Lola? On ABC about 8:15am. It is Natty's favourite thing atm. (Not favourite show, favourite thing... i.e. "Natty, would you like to do a painting?"

I actually quite enjoy it, which is a plus. There's an episode where Charlie and Lola have to do a few chores before they're allowed to watch Space Family Hudson. Interspersed throughout the show is the jingle for Space Family Hudson... After watching it several times the other day, that jingle was the only thing in my head. Hence...
BG: Ooooh, how lovely to meet some more BB girls :) And LOL @ E socialising. I think they are just instinctively drawn to other children. Today we went to SIL's house and I mentioned to Erin that I hadn't been able to make Phoebe laugh again since the first time I heard it last week. So a little while later, I'm getting video of Erin making Phoebe laugh! It was fab. Phoebe just loves kids. Glad E was so happy on the drive. Makes it a billion times easier, I'll bet.

I have been sorting baby clothes the last couple of days. Have everything sorted by size and season. So sad, there are some lovely winters in 00 which Natty wore... sad that Phoebe won't be able to wear them.
DH has been away birdwatching today. I'm pretty bloody impressed with myself, actually. Got through the day (helped that we were out for most of it, LOL!) and got the girls bathed, fed, put to bed with a minimum of fuss. (Unless you count Natty's 20min tanty... That was plenty of fuss.)
Am taking Phoebe to the nurse tomorrow so will post her stats once I know :)

Hi all! The Midget has decided that day-naps are like, sooo uncool so I’ll see how long I manage to stay on the pooter!

Vic – I thought it was interesting that you said that when they learn new stuff it can make them cranky. Ivy has been really funny lately. It seems that her brain has developed further than her body so she wants to do things but can’t coordinate the movements. She’s now able to grab stuff and bring it to her mouth, but can’t manipulate the object well enough and ends up shoving a flat surface or awkward corner against her lips and then CRACKS IT with frustration. Or she’ll be on he belly and be looking at something she wants to get to, but obviously can’t crawl… so starts yelling at it! It’s very cute, but has meant that I can’t leave her too play on her own for as long, as she gets grumpy pretty fast.

Jacinta – can’t imagine going to a party with strippers with my Mum!!! That’d freak me right out. Hope she had a ball though.

Nicky – loved the vid of your ‘banshee baby’. Cracked me up. Ivy squeals occasionally, but not long drawn out ones like that… only a matter of time before she figures it out though, and then I’m getting me some ear-muffs!

Naomi – I’m loving hearing about Bailey’s experience with solids. We’re a while off trying it yet – Ivy’s not showing any signs of readiness beyond mouthing lots of stuff - but I know it’s just around the corner and it’s really helpful to hear how others have approached it. Kinda dreading those solids poos though! Super happy for you that it seems to be helping out with longer sleeps too. You must feel like a different person after 6-8 whole hours in a row! Hope your man gets over his flu soon – they’re big sooks aren’t they?!

BG – I’m so sorry to hear about DH’s work. That sounds really stressful for you both. I don’t doubt he’ll find other work quickly though since he’s been doing it forever. Here’s hoping he gets a job that allows him to be home more often so he can give both his girls regular cuddles – very important! Made me laugh reading about E wanting to keep up with the other kids. I think Ivy would be the same… I wanna RUN!!! And glad you had fun at Nae’s… I’ve been following her story through some of her posts and am so excited for her. She seems like such a lovely woman and deserves so much happiness after all the heartache she’s been through.

Amy – I too am dreading teeth as Ivy does exactly the same thing! Bites down and then looks up at me and beams. SO cute but has made me cry out in pain quite a few times and wears very thin when feeding takes forever as they’re too busy looking around to just finish off the feed. Natty sounds like such a cutie. Determined and wilfull, yes, and she shouldn’t give her Mummy such a hard time sometimes, but very cute. I look forward to Ivy being able to chat to me. But at the same time IKWYM about having to put away the smaller baby clothes… they’re growing up so fast!

Sorry to those I’ve missed – thought I’d just stick to this page so at least persies felt do-able. Hiiii to all of you!

AFU – I’m still loving this Mummy gig. Ivy is so gorgeous when she wakes up and sees me in the morning and grins so much her whole body gets involved and it’s grin-wriggle-wriggle-gurgle-squeeeeel-grin!! She does the funniest little dance now when she’s happy where she almost looks like she’s go-go dancing, swinging her arms around and kicking her legs. Cracks me up. So mostly, it’s all good. She makes me smile every day and I just love her more and more, if that’s possible.

But, I have to confess, I’m having some rough spots too. I have suffered from anxiety and depression on and off since adolescence, and some of that is creeping back in. Have had a couple of panic attacks over the past few weeks which is not fun, and I’m finding that I get really scary mental images of something happening to Ivy (like I imagine that I go into her room and find her not breathing) and I freak myself right out. I also find that some days I feel a bit trapped. Like the enormity of this commitment is finally hitting me and I realise that I don’t get a break. Ever. Or at least not for about 18 years. Some days I wake up and it just feels a bit like ‘Groundhog day’ – the same thing over and over again. Ivy is still feeding about every 2 ? hours and refuses to take a bottle so I can’t leave her with anyone (and mostly, don’t want to), but the feeling of being so completely depended on gets a bit overwhelming at times.

Do you know what I mean? Don’t get me wrong… I have no regrets. I adore my little girl and love my new life. It’s just non-stop and draining and confronting and the emotions involved are so strong that sometimes the joy spill over into fear of losing it all or doing it wrong or grief for the loss of my old self.

Well Midget Girl is awake, so here endeth the rant. We’re off to the MCHN for our 4 month appt – late b/c Ivy’s still a bit delayed as she was prem. I’ll try and pop back in and let you know our stats.

Well my 50th percentile girl is 'average' for every measurement which is great.

Weight: 6.65 kgs
Length: 63.5 cms
Head circ: 41.5 cms

Gaining weight a little slower at 101g per week but I wasn't surprised at this since it's hard to get her to take a full feed with all the looking around and pulling off. MCHN was happy with all milestones and Ivy gave her a good sample of her 'speech' and chatted away for the whole appt!
