Amy: Yeah I know what you mean about Huge Heads hehe..my Laura has the biggest head (as big as my 12 year old!), and huge eyes. She is a "little girl in a big girl's body" as someone suggested to me once. And Cara is going to be similar by the looks of it.
Naomi: Oh yeah..what is going on with these babies waking every 2 hours at night to feed? arghh
Bridg: yeah I rang the mobile, left messages on message bank, and rang shopping centre...no luck.
BG: I just have no energy for shopping any more this week ..and I love a good Target sale..sigh.
Cara is really trying hard to say "Good girl"...it sounds just like it sometimes!! SO cute!
Yes, I saw that BG... I only just bought 2 00 wondersuits a week ago  Still, I think they were only $8 each or something, so s'ok.
Naomi: How freaky @ all the firstborn sons among you! Yes, your brother's offspring's gender is now set in stone, LOL! Is he looking at impending fatherhood as yet? If so, be sure not to cook him and his other half dinner until a week or so before bubs is due ;)
Yes, congrats to your friend. That's a great size... maybe the GD is a contributing factor..? Very distinguished name indeed!
Good on you for extending the olive branch to your MIL. I hope it is a good time for you all.
Bridg: Sounds like Logan's going great guns :)
Phoebe is only just transitioning to the 00s, so still plenty of room here. Actually, today she was wearing a 000 top and it was ok. But bonds 000 is def too small. DH dressed her in a 000 long-sleeved bodysuit yesterday (one that clips up @ the crotch) and it kept slipping off her shoulder, LOL! It looked hilarious because she wasn't wearing a singlet (due to weeing all over her jarmies, singlet and sleeping bag) so it looked like she was wearing an off-the-shoulder number.
Ah, I am so uncertain as to what to do next year. I have had to re-enroll Natty at her childcare (which is fine, cause she'd be going to pre-school anyway) and I think I am going to put Phoebe on a waiting list. I would love to not go back to work until she is 12mo, but I don't think we're going to manage it. Fact is, once the maternity allowance runs out we're going to be really struggling.
I have a couple of subjects to finish my massage course and even then I don't know what work I'll get cause I can't register with the major health funds until I get my diploma... Which I'm not intending to get tbh. It is very hard not to get stressed, particularly as DH is soooooo stressed about his business atm too.
I am so sad at the thought of leaving her.
Jacinta- Im with BG. $6 at Target, cant go wrong. If I had some spares, Id send u some.
BG- Yep! Me going to Target tomorrow. I have a g/f who is having a surprise baby shower on Saturday, so need to buy a pressie.
Cathy- Logan has a big head, but I think its more to do with the fact Leigh and his Dad have big heads. Fingers crossed ur phone turns up.
Amy- I can just picture the off the shoulder look! Hugs to u re not knowing what to do next year. Id love to babysit, but I myself will be putting in some serious work into my course, seeings as though I havent done much this year.
Naomi- GL with swimming with the MIL. Hopefully she behaves herself.
Hi Girls,
Jemima is in mostly 000's with some of the 0000's still fitting her, just probably cos they were huge 0000's or they don't have feet in or something. I am starting to put her in a few 00's but mostly cos i want to put some of her cute new clothes. Her Nan in the UK sends me stuff ever 2wks or so ( 1st grandchild) and so she has some really pretty stuff. I went to Trade Secret yest to get her a few all in ones with no sleeves cos it is getting really hot up here (31degrees couple of days ago) and bought alot of marquise stuff which is really nice and alot of them were 2 for 12 dollars too. I realised this morning that in my desire to see her in a one of her new little nighties ( all open at the bottom so you can get at nappy without opening buttons) that I may have just upgraded her a little too quickly. oh well.
Cathy & Naomi - I am with you with the night time active babies.... Jemima woke up on the trip from the car last night after the BAC group I went to (birth after caesar) so that was 12, then woke for a drink at 3 then 6...... soo sleepy. She is sleeping now and she has been naping during the day. I am seriously going to have to get commited to going to be earlier. I just really enjoy that short time where I get to be on my own that it is hard to go to bed early... ie b4 1030. but i am gonna have to cos it is really catching up on me at the moment.
Hope all you lovely ladies are well and bubbies are peaceful.
Bella
thanx guys but i live a bit far away from target and currently cant afford to go and the cars getting fixed next week but its ok hes got plenty of other clothes just no grow suits lol plus its starting to get warmer funny thing is im getting a lot of my clothes off another may baby a year older than j so all the clothes are fitting in with the seasons lol
im planning on getting j a tickle me elmo for chrissy he'll love it and hopefully by then he'll figure out how to use it i already got him a pressie but im gonna give it to him before chrissy lol i cant help myself
Hmmmmmm ..............Bailey seems so grumpy and unsettled lately - I seem to have lost my smiley happy boy, he doesn't even talk and yabber like he was a few weeks ago, certainly not as easily as he did before, even my crazy singing barely amuses him atm - its really coincided with the fussy feeding and its making me wonder if he just simply isn't getting enough to eat. ATM about an hour after he wakes from sleeps he is fine, but then goes downhill quickly and is usually awake for another stressful/grissly or flatout hysterical hour before finally going to sleep. I have tried feeding him more frequently in case he is hungry but he just fusses about and really takes anything extra anyway. I've given him a bottle a few times and it seems to work - last night he wouldn't take the boob AT all before bed but drank 180mls from the bottle. The first thing I am thinking as a BF mum is my supply - DOH!!
I am taking him to the CYH on monday for a weigh/measure and chat so hopefully they can help. Its like we are having a really bad wonder-fortnight instead of a wonder week........ By the time DH gets home at 330ish, its practically the arsenic hour until Bailey goes to sleep around 6ish, so DH then gets grumpy and I have 2 grumpy boys on my hands - DOH
Naomi- Im so sorry to hear Bailey is having feeding troubles. Normally the saying is "a way to a mans heart is through his stomach". Have u thought about expressing and giving the ebm from a bottle, that way u will know how much he is drinking, and also how much milk ur producing? Sorry I cant be of any more help.
jamie got his 4 month needles today he screamed again but stopped in about 2 mins hes fine now back to normal
Jacinta- Glad to hear Jamie was a tough cookie getting his needles. I have a 00 cotton all in one suit that doesnt fit Logan anymore. Its yellow with ducks on it, and is really cute. If u would like me to send it to u, Id be more than happy to.
thanx bridg but its all good he'll be fine
Naomi we're going through a bit of a rough patch too, and so are several of the bubs in my Mother's group who are the same age. Increased wind, fussy feeding, disrupted sleep... aarrggghh where did my 'easy' baby go? Ivy has been sleeping through for about 6 weeks and last night was awake and crying every 20 mins 'till 2am. Really distressed, poor little tyke. There was nothing I could do for her but cuddle her and rock her as she wailed (which wears VERY thin, esp. when Daddy is sleeping peacefully through the whole saga).
I'm not sure what it's all about but think that it's interesting that quite a few seem to be going a bit funny at the same age. Maybe it's changes in the gut in preparation for solids or little teeth moving around under the gums??? Who knows. I just hope it passes soon. I want my happy little girl back.
Hope that Bailey is much happier in the next few days and returns to his chatty self. xoxoxo
Girls, sorry about the fussy babies :( It is really hard having an unhappy baby.
Naomi, just to reassure you: your supply is fine. Probably Bailey takes the bottle cause it is much easier when he's tired, KWIM? All he needs to do is open up and give a half-hearted suck and he gets instant results. On the boob he's got to attach properly and use deeper jaw muscles to get the good stuff. Plus in the evenings the good stuff might take a little while to let down and he probably gets impatient. Don't doubt yourself, babe. (Course having said that, if you want to give him a FF before bed, I doubt your supply would suffer too much while he is still feeding overnight... but that's JMO and I'm not an ABA councellor ;) )
Kat: I know how frustrating it is to deal with baby meltdowns overnight while DH sleeps peacefully. Mine never wakes unless he's not sleeping for some other reason. It can be a lonely time in the middle of the night.
I hope your little ones are back to their happy selves soon.
Bella: Bummer that J had a wakeful night last night. Hope she gives you some good rest tonight.
Bridg: Thanks for the babysitting offer, LOL! Might be a tad out of the way to go to work via Victoria, PMSL! What course are you studying?
Jacinta: Have you seen those laughing Elmo arm chairs? I'm not an Elmo fan, but even I thought the chairs were cute(ish) ;) What present did you get for J that you're going to cave and give him? I am hopeless too - last year I tried to get pressies for Natty through the year cause her birthday's so close to Christmas, but I tended just to give them to her when I bought them
Looked after my nephew this morning for a couple of hours along with the girls. He was brilliant but Natty was PAINFUL! She was so jealous. She's rarely like that with Phoebe, thank heavens.
he he
google bright starts around we go
i won it off ebay coz i missed out when it was in big w in the sales and i only paid $56
...wow!
yep my boy is spoilt :)
Hey chickys.
Sorry for no persies. Just wanted to let u all know that I wont be online for a bit as Im having a bit of Time Out. Had a bit of a breakdown today, so think I need some time alone. I still love u guys though. If anyone needs to get a hold of me, u can email me.
Mwah.
Bridg.
Jacinta - I bought the Bright Starts 'Around we go' for Bailey (its in the spare room waiting for xmas) - but I paid $128 - DOH LOL Its fab though, I cant wait till he is a bit bigger and can play with it. Glad to hear the 4 month shots went well
Awwww Kat, thanks for letting me know Ivy is going through the same, while I really feel for you guys too, its also comforting to know its 'normal' and I'm not alone. Bailey seems to have regressed in some ways, so hoping within another week he might be back to his normal happy self. Sometimes I get some annoyed at my DH too (especially when I have trudged back to Baileys room for the 10th time), the other night I just put Bailey in bed with us cos I was at the point where I didn't give a stuff if Daddy woke and Bailey slept through ALOT better. I try to do the right thing by DH and make sure he gets plenty of sleep for work etc, but sometimes I think they take it for granted and forget we are 'on call' 24 hrs a day. DH made a flippant comment about me going out for coffee or shopping or even to the Mums and Bubs movie sessions etc quite a few times while he's at work - he quickly earnt my wrath when I explained to him that was pretty much my social life now and I am STILL looking after Bailey while doing this - whereas he goes to Band practise every Wed night alone and his poker nights monthly and whatever comes up (he's out at a End of Footy Season Do tonight) and I dont make him take Bailey along - he understood where I was coming from which was good, but it did make my blood boil! But like Amy's DH - he will sleep through peacefully - but I make him help me on weekend nights - as I deserve a weekend too :) I hope our beautiful babies are back to their happy selves for us soon
Bridg - The EBM feed is a great idea, unfortunately I get bugger all while expressing so unfortunately its not the best option for us. I'm OK with the occassional FF, as long as Bailey doesn't get TOOOO used to it and give up on the boob, but it seems that he interchanges pretty well and at this stage is only averaging maybe 5 FF a week, so is definately ok with the boob MOST of the time. I feel for our FF Mummies, Bailey screamed the house down waiting for us to prepare it - how stressful is that?
Amy - Looking after THREE kidlets - Wow you are game LOL, or should I say crazy!!! Thanks for the reassurance with the FF at bedtime, it actually made me feel a whole lot better, and I think you are right, as Bailey still feeds pretty frequently at night, my supply is probably at its best overnight as he feeds really well as is so sleepy and he's just on automatic pilot, so I am hoping he is getting lots at night as its his day feeds that are fussy and sometimes very short. I think this is probably another reason why I have a baby that likes to feed through the night, as he probably drinks more than throughout the day, esp at the moment
I went to visit my MOH today, her little boy is doing so well, he will hopefully only be in hosp for 2-3 weeks, his Mummy is doing OK, but is pretty bed bound atm due to the c/s, she told me that was well as the amniotic fluild and the gest diabeties, she also had a prolapsed cord as had a low lying placenta so she really had a tough time of it. I went and bought some Premmie clothes from Baby Bunting to take in for her which were soooo cute, which she loved and send the little beanie down to the NICU for him to wear straight away which was sweet. I feel so emotional for her at the moment, I came home and cried to DH about it, he was really understanding, it really reminded me of Bailey suprising us with his early arrival but that was nothing compared to what she was is going through. I am going to have a big cooking day on monday and stock her freezer. Poor love missed her own baby shower so we will reschedule it for a few months time when Bub is out of the woods
I am starting to get really excited about our Nov meet up - its not far away at all, I just cant wait to meet you all and your babies and for you to meet Bailey, it will be a really special day. We have to take lots of photo's - Maybe do something groovy with our babies and lay them all together and take some group shots - I cant wait to see them all together!!
Naomi

Bridg - just missed your post - so sorry to hear you are having a tough time, if you ever need anything or just someone to listen, drop me a line!! ANYTIME!!
Bridg: I'm sorry I couldn't chat more earlier. *Hugs* feel better soon hon. Like a child health nurse said to me a few weeks ago "Don't forget to give yourself a hug sometimes".
I am currently going through a split. (we split when Cara was 6 weeks old). So life is a bit hard for me at the moment. Me and my ex boyfriend/partner have been up and down the last almost 7 years, but never lived together properly..long story. He has problems that he says he'll fix, and then does them again and again. I think at 41 he is not going to change. I feel very confused at times, because he is such a lovely guy, and my kids do think the world of him. But really, I think I made the right decision. He was yelling at me today when he came over to see the girls. But in the end, after a good chat he said he felt better. I hate how things are, but I hate how things were also. Life is confusing at times. I honestly don't know what I want. I just know I am happier now.
Cara is starting to wriggle around!!! So cute!! When I have put her down for a sleep or she's on her back under her playgym, she's moved around half way or fully..so cute!!
Naomi: I know what you mean about having your partner in bed with you. It' s hard! It is just so much easier in bed with the baby next to you though hey? Though I don't have to worry about the partner in bed with me anymore..
Amy: I have raised all 4 babies with no help from partner at night. My ex husband at least helped out with nappy changes. Men forget how hard it is for us being on call 24/7!
Bella: Oh I hate it when they won't sleep properly after a big day out or whatever. I've noticed that in Cara too. She's really overly fussy and won't sleep well after a very active day!
My phone never turned up. I'm over mobile phones for now anyway.... I CAN honestly live without one. I am one of those people that CAN'T text with my eyes shut hehe
lol naomi i was going to pay the full price to get it but the laybuy line was horrendous and our car broke down on the way to get it again grrrr
were ok with the formula now it used to be like that here then i started preparing before and now hes sleeping through the night i feed him more during the day so when i'm preparing it hes not even expecting it
its such a nice day were gonna go for a picnic just waiting for DH to get home and now jamie doesnt like laying down so we have him sitting in the pram he loves to look around which is why i cant wait to get this toy im picking it up next sat so yeah im pretty excited coz next week were going to my mums naughty forty party
coz of me jamies favourite animal is monkeys lol im starting a pretty good collection except that i havent got any of it yet lol hes my cheeky monkey
hope everyone else is doing good xoxo
Oh, probably you wont see this, Bridg, but I'm so sorry you're doing it tough. Thinking of you. xx
Naomi: Far out, your friend really did have all the nasties of pregnancy. I hope she recovers quickly. Good on you for being so supportive, even though it must be really difficult for you to relive the early days in the NICU.
I too am way looking forward to November! I keep thinking about it - what's going to be best to carry Phoebe in, when I will get a chance to pack etc... And it's still a couple of months away, LOL!
Definitely need to bring the cameras... but I guess at that stage many of them will be mobile - we might have to be a bit creative with the group shots.
Cathy: I have been wondering how things are going for you. I recall when we were all pregnant you were talking about how complicated your relationship was. I'm sorry that things have been difficult with your DP, but glad that you are ok with things atm.
Jacinta: Wow, can't believe your mum is only 40, LOL! My DH will be 40 next year ;)
Had a day at home today and I reckon I'm even more tired than usual! Natty ran me ragged. Phoebe slept most of the day though - it was weird! She woke @ 6:30 and was awake for an hour before she started getting cranky, so I gave her a quick top-up and popped her in bed, expecting to hear her cry. She didn't, she fell asleep and slept until 11:30 :o After that she kind of did an awake for an hour, sleep for an hour pattern. She was even tired before so I put her to bed and I think she's out for the night already, LOL! Tough being a baby. Hope she isn't awake all bloody night now ;)
Hope you are all enjoying your weekends.
Talking about the November meet, I was in the Botanic Gardens today scoping it out for suitability. Located an area which would work well, not near water, near cafe and toilets etc - just need to work out best way for all to get there - will discuss with others at the mini-meet we are having on Tuesday. The cafe is big enough if the weather turned, but if the day is just bad altogether we are probably best off at cafe on southbank and I have one in mind. Can those of you that are flying in remind me of what times you are getting in? Assume you will get the skybus from airport into Southern Cross? Assume you will be bringing prams?
ill be catching the train from my mums with the pram
Vic, I am catching stupid Jetstar into stupid Avalon. So I'll be getting their shuttle somewhere or other to meet Naomi (and what about you, Bella?)... but I haven't investigated as yet where I can get off.
I won't have a pram I don't think - I think I'll just have P in a carrier. (As don't have a check-in luggage ticket.) I am arriving around 8:40am.
Amy - The shuttle from Avalon goes into Southern Cross station so same place as the shuttle from Tullamarine. I have used it before and is pretty good and actually as Avalon is so small an airport you get through it quick so doesn't take much longer than arriving at Tullarmarine. The bus meets every jetstar flight and you don't have to pre-book (google sita group avalon airport).
I would suggest if times work out (Amy you will get to Southern Cross about 9:50 I reckon) those flying in meet in the DFO (Designer Factory Outlet) above Southern Cross station, there is a food court with coffee shops etc there and is right above the station. I might come and meet you guys there and then can help navigate to the botanic gardens or wherever we meet up - I am "miss public transport" and know my way round the city really well and DH is in a fun run in the city early that morning anyway, and am teaching CJ to be a tram and train geek like me -( we are going on a steam train next Sunday! Will be Cerys' first time )
Jacinta - Which train line will you be coming in on, where does your mum live?
pakenham mum lives in hallam DS has his morning bottle at 8 so we'll be leaving after that
i'll have to make sure i check the times properly but being a sunday the parking at the station will be ok
Vic - I get in at 850am at Tullarmarine and am catching the Skybus to meet Amy - based on our flight times we should arrive at a similar time. I got free checked backage so have decided to bring a stroller (not risking my pram breaking again LOL, but we have a stroller we bought for our QLD trip). I think we were then thinking of maybe finding a Coles/Woolworths Express nearby in the CBD to buy a few things to contibute to the picnic, and then head to the botanic gardens. I guess we'll need to compile a list of who's bringing what. As we are flying in we'll buy our bits and pieces on arrival otherwise its just too hard LOL. I'm pretty Melb savvy as have been there loads of times (mostly for Crows games hehahaha) but it would be great if you are able to come meet us :) DFO sounds like a plan - I know where that is! Easy to find.
Quickie from me as usual...
just have to say LOVING hearing all this planning!! I am very excited about the Nov meet! Looking forward to catching up with a couple of you tomorrow too and we'll make some plans to make sure everyone is met, fed, watered and well taken care of.
Ivy seems to have moved past her little rough-patch... that said, it was only a 'good' day yesterday, but I'm hoping that's a sign of things changing for the better. Naomi, hoping you're seeing a happier boy too.
DH has an RDO today so we get to hang out in the sunshine. Off to enjoy having my man for an extra day. Have a good one girls.
Hi everyone!!!
We are still alive, just busy busy busy.
Bridg - Big hugs hun. I hope things are ok and please feel free to have a chat with me anytime if you need to clear your head. xxoo big hugs. Thinking of you!
Well, I've missed far too much and need to go back and catch up.
I'd say Hubby and I will drive down with the kids and park outside the gardens probably earlyish in the morning. We went on a Saturday last time and found it easy to find car parks. What time are we meeting?? If anyone's early, we'll probably be in the gardens already, having a walk around.
Should we exchange mobile numbers? I'm guessing the cafe that was spoken about is at the other end of the gardens that I don't know. I only know the one near the small lake ( gate A I think it was).
Will have to have another look at the map and work out which gate to come in.
All going well. Allira is 4 months old now. Still can't get over her being here, let alone being 4 montsh old. I will ahve to book her 4 month appt for this week sometimes later today. She's not rolled over all the way too much more, but always goes about 3/4 of the way from back to front and front to back all the time. She's making so many noises now. She's going to do everything so much earlier than DS which sucks, because he was reasonably early for most things. None of my sisters or SIL's are anywhere near having kids.... I am going to try and crack the whip because I know in only months time, I will be clucky again. That will not help the no more kids policiy we have here. LOL
Osteo again this Wednesday for Allira. Her head shape has changed dramatically since we've been going and it's really helped her reflux/spewyness.
AFM - Well I've decided that it's time to cut down my massively ample frame, so I started some of those replacement shakes this morning. They're not a long term plan, I just want to see if I can make it a week on those. If I can, then I think I am ready for a complete lifestyle overhaul. I'm so so scared of failing and I am desperate to lose this weight. We start tennis in late October I think and I can't wait for that. I'm also planning on going for a strutt with my iPod every night once DH gets home. Will get me out of the house and give me some kiddie free time which I really need.
Ok enough waffle. Will try and get back in here more often.
xxoo
Quickie from me too, will pop back quickly later, off to the CYH to get the little guy weighed / measured etc
Kat - we seem to be back to norm too - as of saturday morning I have noticed a HUGE change - lots of smiles, giggles, chatting and even raspberry blowing - thank god, what a tough 2 weeks. Also - two nights of going 4-5 hours between feeds, its like I have a new baby!! Hang in there - there definately is and end in sight - hope Ivy has another great day for you today mate
Naomi

There's a May 2010 thread!! It does not seem like a year ago. I still remember how I felt when I got my BFP.... memories. LOL
Hi girls,
well just a quick one for me here. I am getting in to melb on sat 21st in the evening at 7.30 an leaving on mon 23rd at like 5.30. so I will have a little extra time to look around the city. perhaps someone would have j and i for dinner on sunday nite, or recommend somewhere nice for us to catch a bite? Kat, Vic, anyone? I don't know where i am staying yet. have some rellies scattered, but i think they mostly live in geelong. May just organise a hotel in the city as my lil bro can organise cheap stuff i think.
quickly
Bridg- hope your ok.... whatever is happening, don't be scared to talk. women always understand women. We r here for you
Cathy- OMG you are a strong lady! I can only imagine how it must feel to be raising your 4 beautiful kids on your own. It must be so hard to weigh up your responsibilities to your kids and their dad, with your own needs as a woman. I can only say that I hope it gets easier with time and we are all here for the days when it is tough.
I think it is days when i feel someone in the group going thru a hard time that I wished we all lived in the same city.... I'd be offering to take the kids for a day, or bringing over dinner..... sorry guys but the thought is there.
Nialda- I here you with the weight loss. I havn't lost a thing. but I am ready to try anything. Have started to really cut down my intake at night. hoping that will help. I agree we need to swap phone no's:) where do we do that?..... start a personal message and pass it on with everyone adding their no and continuing till everyone has everyones? perhaps we could start with someone on here who already has quite a few peoples no's and can write them all down? Or are people happy just to post them on here?
Kat- enjoy your day in the sunshine with your man. Glad Ivy is having some quiet days for you. My DH just backed up a late shift (1130 finish) with an 8am start. Which is tough on him but means that we get to see him tonight, yay!!! Jemima also seems to be sleeping better thru the day, but it also means she is awake at night more often too. I still usually get a 6-8hr block from 8pm - 2-4am then again at 5-6am. It is all catching up on me though as I haven't been getting to bed early enough. So that is my new goal.... going to bed early.
Naomi- Im with you re getting some stuff to contribute to lunch at a coles express... or maybe a little deli for some naughty cheeses? I agree someone should take a note of what people are going to bring..... I offer my services to take note of what people offer and keep a list going, so people can have a look when they ask and then can decide what is missing.
Vic- When I work out where i am staying I will welcome your help in working out how to get around... used to know when i lived there as a teenager but wouldn't have a clue now. Also would like to meet at DFO. Do you have any suggestions about what is a good outing for my day on monday? Would like to see something while i'm there if i can't organise a family hook-up.
Amy- wow for phoebe sleeping! Sorry to hear Natty keeping you on the go all day! Sounds like they are preparing you for super mum auditions. "this little lady can balance 2 kids on one hip, cook with the other hand and prod DH with a foot, all whilst keeping her smile! Ladies and gentlemen, introducing AMY!!!!" LOL. I think I am gonna bring Jemima in a wrap.. so much easier to move around.. tho i am thinking of borrowing a stroller for if/when i get tired.
Jacinta- good going on your bargain!! Sounds like you have got your bargain cap on... I am so crap on ebay.. have no patience whatsoever!
So much for that being quick! Jemima has had a feed and gone to bed in the mean time so that made it easier... So very excited about this trip... a while away yet but so looking forward to meeting you all. My friends up here know about you all as well so that is cool... I think they are bemused by the idea of it all.
On another track I had the strangest yet greatest experience when we were on our way down to Canberra that i forgot to tell you all about. A girlfriend of mine had been srtuggling to have a baby. She was offered surrogacy by a young lesbian couple who wanted to have some sperm to have their own child. Last yr both of the lesbian girls got pregnant. One with my g'friends embryo, and one with her husbands sperm... (ok I know that some of you will be freaking out by now but bare with me) Anyway, the pregnancies were 6-8wks apart i think and about not quite 2weeks ago now the young lady having my friends baby gave birth. We had talked about how she could stimulate milk for her baby to b'feed. She also wanted advice from my sister about milk banks... I always had thought it was sad we lived so far away atm, cos I had colostrum in the freezer from nipple stimulation when trying to induce labour, and thought it would be great if she could have it. When our flights changed, we got changed to stopping over in bris instead of sydney and all of a sudden about 30mins before we left a thought occured to me that as we were meeting my dad, he could take it to her on the sunshine coast. So I called my g'friend and asked do you want some colostrum and bmilk? She said "hell yes!" So that's my story. I put all the colostrumi had, about 10mls plus 400mls of bmilk into a smll esky with lots of freezer blocks, too it to bris airport, drilled my dad about what to do with it when he got it home if it had started to defrost and yeah....... I know it does sound a little strange to some people (especially about the lesbian carrying my g'friend baby, gotten alot of looks about that part of the story when i have told some people) but it seemed like such an important thing to do for a baby who won't get any breast milk. My g'frind had emergency hip replacement surgury 2wks b4 her baby arrived and was told not to try to bfeed by her dr, so she was gonna miss out. I feel kinda like a super mum for being able to give a better start to life to another baby other than my own.... so yeah. Kind of embarrased to, cos i know some people will think that it's mad, but hey, it was for a good cause... thoughts anyone?
Must go
Love to you all
Bella

I spoke too soon, Bailey woke from his morning nap all grissly and moany - LOL - Oh well, Funny story - I put him to bed about an hour ago and went in to see if he was asleep and he appeared to be then his little eyes sprung open - so I dropped to the floor commando style in an effort for him not to see me and decide to stay awake, I kept creeping my head up to see if he'd closed his eyes again (they were that sleepy half open) so ended up crawling out of the room slithering like a snake so he didn't see me - I was trying not to PMSL the whole time hahahahahahaha  I am such a geek, the things we do to get our babies to sleep. After all that effort he decided he WAS awake so I had to get him up, and his just gone down for a nap now. Ahhh well I amused myself during this process!!
Well I took the little guy to be weighed etc and he is indeed a 'little guy'. He's still in the 3-10 percentile (as he was at birth), but he has been steadily gaining an average of 150gm per week - which the CYH nurse said was fine. I have my paed appt tomorrow to discuss his motor skills - eg lifting head from tummy time etc (as he is 'just' lifts his head). He is weighing in at 5900gms and 59cm long, I guess the good thing about my little boy is we are getting lots of wear out of his 000 clothes, his worn a few 00 now, I think we will start transitioning into those clothes into the coming weeks as a few of his clothes are now getting a bit on the tight side. Is Bailey the smallest baby - what are the rest of the babies weighing in at currently?
Bella - I think thats a great idea re the BM/colostrum, good on you! If I had a premmie and couldn't feed them I would want to use a milk bank so its great to hear that you have helped another baby!
Nicky - wow at the 2010 thread, it seriously doesn't seem 12 months ago does it? GL with the weight loss, I am on a health kick atm, but I am cheating a bit too - LOL, I am hopeless
DOH - the little guy is awake already - feed time, back later for some more persies
Naomi
Naomi- pmsl at your commando rolls! HAhahaha!
Krystie- Just went and had a look at your site! I like your spunkie butts!! The lime splice was my favorite. Good on you!
Bella
Naomi - There is a Coles right next to Southern Cross station, underneath DFO really which will be perfect for buying bits and pieces for picnic.
Bella - You are welcome to come to mine for dinner on Sunday evening, or will come out to dinner with you somewhere. Will have a think about what might be interesting for the Monday - depends on the weather - I enjoy the ferry trip to Williamstown along the river on a nice day. As you are here for a couple of days I would prob bring a stroller for when you are tired, carrying CJ already wears me out and makes me feel really hot I wonder what will be like in Nov. You are welcome to stay with us if you like but I only have a blow up mattress to offer you am afraid (Jemima would get a better deal as have a portacot :-)). I think it is great you gave your colostrum and breast milk, although I did taste my frozen milk the other day and it tastes off (apparently totally normal) I am amazed CJ drinks it!
Niadla - I was thinking of the cafe near gate A but setting up on the gardens behind it so are not near the water (Tennyson Lawn Area) - but let me know if you think is still too close too the water? The reason I liked that area is because for people on public transport is an easy walk from Richmond station with a pram, whereas the other end is a hike up the hill from a tram (which aren't all pram friendly) and also is good parking on Alexandra avenue for people in cars. There is loads of time for me to scope out another are if think that area isn't great for the toddlers. I also saw there was a May 2010 thread amazing! Actually I checked and was Sep 17th last year I made my first BB post.
Well have to go - CJ is fed up of being ignored!
Vic - thats handy that there is a Coles nearby, you are a wealth of Melb info - legend! I might have to nominate something reatively 'unperishable' for me to purchase on the morning - Perhaps Bella, Amy and I could get some nice Crusty bread and some nibbles - eg chips, nuts, lollies and some nice savoury bickies/dried fruit to go with Bella's cheeses etc. I make a killer potato salad but it just wont work long distance LOL :) Bella - you can add the above to the 'list' for me!! :) Bella I do have a fold up 'cold bag' I can pop in my nappy bag to bring for us to pop anything a bit 'perishable' in, let me know if you want me to bring it :) I also have this Green Bag that is actually a little backpack which folds up to nothing so will bring that so we can transport our stuff easily, also Baileys stroller has a pretty big basket underneath
Jess - glad to hear you and your boys are doing well. I have been thinking about solids - going to start them at 6 months but have been looking through the CYH website as they have excellent info of what foods to introduce and when. Although I am not looking forward to the mess, I am interested to see what Bailey will eat :)
Cathy - I agree with Bella - you are an amazing Mum bringing up your 4 beautiful kids, sorry to hear about the break up, I wish yoy love and happiness
Away I go again, someone pint sized wants my attention
Sorry to those I've missed - hope you are all well

Naomi, what's the CYH website?
Kat - CYH is Child and Youth Health - the same as the MCHN system in Victoria. I find it one of most valuable Mummy Online resourses, the SA Govt has really done a great job in supporting this website and SA Health
Anyhoo, their site is AWESOME, heaps of wonder week info, GREAT advice on introducing solids - if you google 'CYH SOLIDS' the first page that comes up is the one I was talking about. PM me if you need me to link you. It tells you what to introduce and when, and give you ideas of what to get bubs to try, and they recommend introducing a new food every few days (to see how the baby reacts, and also helps rule out any allergies, and it also helps them get used to different tastes rather than bombarding them with a whole lot of different tastes/textures at once.
There are 4 stages they recommend
- First Tastes
- Learning to Chew
- Self Feeding
- Family Diet (with some changes)
We talked about it in one of our CYH Nurse run Mothers Groups and I found it so informative. I plan to have a cooking day once a week and cook all of Baileys foods when the time comes, I'm not totally against using pre-packaged baby food for the occasional convenience when out etc, but I really plan to make as much freshly and preservative free as possible, especially while on maternity leave.
Hope it helps you guys
Naomi
