Babies born November 16th-30th 2010 #1

Hey guys!

Just popping in, it's been a bit quiet. We are going pretty good here. Still only rolling from tummy to back. I think he is too lazy to roll over to his tummy. I'm trying to coach him, he'll get there eventually. He sits up fairly well.

Still breastfeeding, haven't started solids yet but not far off it. Do bub's put on alot of weight when starting solids?? I'm scared that KP will, he already weighs 10kg's and it kills me! I have no idea where to start tho, do I start with Breakfast or dinner first?? How much?? How long after a feed?? Might have to do a bit of reading..

I think making time for yourself is a great idea also!! even if it's for an hour or so. I usually leave KP with poppy whilst I go do shopping, it's only once every week or 2 weeks but it makes a difference. DP works alot so he only see's KP for a little each morning before he leaves, and on sundays. even then he is 'too tired' to do much so I get a little exhausted.

It pings me off because I know that he doesn't have to work the hours that he does.. He needs to start thinking about us more. He gets cranky when I hassle him about it so I don't bother saying anything anymore.. He doesn't understand why it gets to me.. pfft.. men!!

We're 2 days off from this road trip, and a couple of our destinations ar under water! But we're going, regardless. Lots of stuff packed, just the food shop to do tomorrow, then load it all in the car tomorrow night and we head off on Thursday!

We've just emerged from Wonder Week 18, it was really hard going, and Nellie started to wake a bit more in the night, but we got through it and she's back to sleeping 7-6 with a 1am feed. The result of the wonder week is that she's all switched on, and has an eagle eye for reaching out and grasping things. She loves to nab a singlet out of the washing basket and start chewing on it, and the other night she rolled herself to the coffee table, reached out for her Dad's jumper that was hanging off it, and dragged it down on top of herself. Very clever!

We're still exclusively breastfeeding. DH's specialist was so insistent that our baby have nothing but BM for the first 6 months, and I'm really glad we can stick to it.

I just got in from my first night out since Nell was born. Went for late coffee with some girlfriends. Was great. I rode my bike too, for the first time since 34 weeks preg, so about 6 months. That was the best part. I might do that more often after Noodle goes to bed.

Hello Mummy's!!!

Any other bubs crawling yet? Miss Emily is up on all fours and takes about 2-3 crawls than slides forward and than back up and doing it again! the other day i put her in the lounge room and she made her way across the hall to me in the study!

eza - Miss Emily is on solids now (not full time) just 1-2 meals a day! and she hasn't stacked on the weight, but than she is up and about so maybe that is why???? not too sure! we started with breaky because i thought if it was going to upset her tummy than she would have all day to get over it instead of having a upset tummy during the night! and i always feed her bottle (formula or EBM) first than her meal.

Audax - how cute is Nellie grabing the singlet and sucking on it! i don't think we had a rough time going thru wonder week 18 - although Miss Em has been waking once during the night again - so maybe that is her going through it do you think? when is the next wonder week?
bet you loved getting out with the girls!!! so so wanna do that but just don't have the time! also your road trip has inspired us and we are going on our first family holiday in may!! i am so looking forward to it!

Anybody there?!!!

Surely you can't be a thread killer in a baby buddies group, ha, ha!

No one has written for almost a month!

Nothing much to write here though! All still going smoothly - waking once a night for quick feed and back to bed or not waking at all. He has actually rolled a couple of times both ways but is less than interested in repeating it, LOL! So nowhere near crawls, hj! I need to stop my comparing of my kids - DD was starting to commando crawl about nowish, but we have not much interest in movement from DS! We will start solids with him at the end of the month, too.

Only major annoyance is my parents are overseas for 6 weeks - no child help and no company from them - I'm missing them like crazy. Funny when you realise your mum is your best friend after all! DH's parents leave next week for their trip too, so we really will be all alone! The good news is we have booked a holiday to Sydney - took ages to find an apartment with two bedrooms for a reasonable price somewhere near the city, but we did get one! Looking forward to that, although we're only there three days!

How is everyone else??

We're good. Sitting up now, and getting ready to start on solids. Yahoooo! Waking twice in the night currently, but we're back to co-sleeping so I don't really notice.

Our holiday was great! Baby ate about a kilo of dirt, swam at the beach, bathed in caravan park laundry troughs, had a goanna try to eat her toys, and made lots of friends everywhere she went - she's super smiley.

We've had a few pink cheek moments, accompanied by jaw grinding and a boatload of dribble, so I think chompers are on their way. Boooooo. I can't get enough of the gummy smile!

star - LOL stop comparing!!!! you have a boy and a girl - and from what i have read they develope differently - apparently girls are quicker learners than boys??? i don't have a boy so i can't compare! hahaha but in saying all that i do at times compare my 2 girls! but they are both pretty simular! DD2 is doing things a little earlier than DD1 but than i put that down to she has DD1 to learn from!
Try and enjoy your time alone!!! and enjoy ur trip to sydney! when are u going?

Audax - woohooo on sitting up! if we sit DD2 up she stays sitting up but is still learning how to sit herself up!

Miss Em had her 1st trip to hospital! she has croup - has been really awful and distressing to see!

oh no HJ :( Hope she get's better soon.. My neice had croup when she was younger, was awful

well bub's is finally rolling both ways now and is sitting up unaided for about a minute LOL.. Finally starting to lose his michelin rolls! He is such an active bubba, just want's to go go go, but he can't :( it's pretty frustrating for him. He loves his walker and the jolly jumper.
Teething has been a *****, i'm sure one is gonna come through soon, I hope so anyway, poor bugger has been in a bit of pain. I've had an amber necklace on him for a couple months now and not so sure it's actually doing anything. I did get it off ebay so wondering if it's legit.. Am gonna buy one off amberbebe and see if it makes a difference. Really don't like giving panadol/nurofen too often.

I will be starting back at work next month, 3 days/wk, really looking forward to it!

I hate giving panadol because of what it does to the nappies!

We started solids last night. Was totally unplanned, but DD was on my lap, grabbed a bit of avocado and gummed away on it. Was very pleased with herself. It was good fun, but we still don't have a high chair! Better get on that.

Audax - bugga i just gave away my highchair! i find that those seats that attach to chairs, with trays that can come off better than highchairs, as they are easy to transport, and when they get older they can sit at them at the dining table (without the tray). Did DD love the avo?

eza - poor KP with teething! im not sure if Em is teething yet but i know she is drooling HEAPS!

AF has returned this morning :crying: not happy!!

Yes it does suck!! Kaden hasn't been wanting to feed much for the last couple days.. now I know why. I thought it was his teething :(
I have been thinking about when to have another.. As I only want 2 (for now), not sure how long to wait..

We got our high chair today. Now... to put it together!

eza - we have 25mths between our 2 bubba's! i was worried maybe too soon - but i love it!

oooo new high chair!! DS has been using his lately.. He loves it! Maybe because he is higher off the ground.. Hasn't been interested in anything other than BM. It's quite funny, he makes a funny face even before he tastes anything..

Lately he has been having one red hot cheek (not consistently, like every few days) Doesn't seem painful to him but it has me worried. When he went for needles yesterday I asked the doc and he rambled on about a virus. But he checked him over and was fine temp wise, but I still don't like it

All these little things that make us worry!!! :(

Hello! hj, how exciting! Miss P says da da da da da da.... which DH is claiming as 'dadda' but really is just noise-making! I look forward to her saying mumma.

We have been cruising along, have started some solids which Miss P is really enjoying. I am doing some purees and some finger foods. Is there anything we are not supposed to give them?? I wondered about wheat so early but Miss P is loving a bit of Vegemite toast! We are also doing lots of fruits and veges, tried yoghurt but she didn't like it (will try again later) and today had some of my mashed potato for lunch - was very popular. Haven't tried any meat yet, we will get to that.

Still BF and have found that we have been able to reduce the comp feeds with the introduction of solids. Probably 70% BF and 30% FF these days. My mum wants to know when I am going to wean! Huh?? I worked so hard to establich BF, have told my mother I intend to wean prior to Miss P starting secondary school!

Still co-sleeping, tucked up under mumma's chin. Love being able to snuggle her all night, she cuddles in to me and holds on. Miss P has a couple of naps during the day now, usually on the couch though. You may remember she didn't sleep at all during the day for several months so I am happy with any nap!

Our only real issue is that Miss P hates to be put down if she is awake, she wants to be picked up and carried around. She is too heavy for me to wear in a sling all day, so getting things done can be a bit tricky. Still, I figure she will be running around soon enough and she won't want to be held so i am just enjoying the snuggles.

I had some photos done of Miss P the other day and the photographer asked 'can she sit up'? Ummm... I didn't know the answer because she never sits on her own, someone is always snuggling her! Anyway, it turns out she can sit up!! I had to ring DH to tell him... I suspect she can also roll over, but again she never really gets the chance! Certainly no time to try to crawl...

nickle - i had to laugh when you didn't know the answer to the photographers question! LOL was very cute! yay for Miss P surprising Mum and sitting up! it's good that she is having some naps now too! would make life easier!
and i liked your comment about you planning on weaning her before secondary school - i can just imagine the look on your mums face!
I'm not 100% on what foods we should be staying away from, except i know things like honey, peanuts/peanutbutter and cows milk are not meant to be given until 12mths+
I give Miss Em toast all the time and no problems with anything with wheat in it!
I haven't tried her on anything to acidy yet tho - so have stayed away from tomoto's and pineapples etc...
But we have introduced meat and vegies and fruit! I might give yoghurt a go now too since you have :)

Hey guys, Kaden has been really well the last couple of days. Am at Hervey Bay at the moment staying with my mum whilst our house get painted. Can't wait to get back to a freshly painted house. Hopefully the fumes will be gone by the time I get home.
Start back at work on Monday so am a little excited about that :)

No words here, just da da's and ba ba's and ma ma's ( pretty sure it's just noises) I love watching him trying to talk back to people, very cute.

Kaden loves vegemite toast too.. also pumpkin and potato, just going with the flow now, sick of making up a heap of mashies/puree's when he don't wanna eat it.

Sitting up very well now and even starting to lunge forward. all very exciting!!

nickle I would love to be able to co-sleep with bubba, the only cuddle time in bed is in the morning after his first feed, i love it!! DP isn't keen on co-sleeping, I can see his point tho, that's about the only alone time we get now.

MIL has pretty much shifted in now. she will be babysitting for us which is a huge bonus. Hopefully it will all pan out well. Must go to bed. Will be going to the BB north bris meet on tuesday, looking forward to it :)

Hey ladies - sorry so long since I've been in here!

We got back from our Sydney trip yesterday. Quite eventful in that we had to take DD to hospital in an ambulance with suspected asthma attack. Turned out to be a severe croup episode (even though she's nearly 4!) needing steroids to fix her up. She's doing better now though, but it didn't make for a fun part of the trip! DS was a little trooper, though. Came with us to the hospital, stayed awake and cheery from 10:30pm to 2am, including a BF then back to bed when we got home.

We haven't yet introduced solids (slow, I know!!!). Wanted to wait until after the Sydney trip to save the hassle of taking things over for him / making stuff while we were there. You should have heard the little guilt trip I got from the Child health nurse about that. No wonder I haven't taken him to one since his first one week appointment!! If I was a first time mum I would have taken it to heart, but I really don't care what she thinks. Little guy was only 6 months last week, is on the 90th percentile and not needing any food just yet, even though he seems very keen to start. Will probably get onto the rice cereal tomorrow if I remember!

Still not much interest in moving around, but that's ok! He is trying to get stable to sit, but not really fussed about all that!

Had a little laugh about how you found out DD could sit up, nickle! Shows that you don't really need to practice these things, they just come when they come!

Hi All,

It's been ages since I managed to get on here. Its great to see how all of the bubs are coming along!

Campbell is going great guns. He has weaned himself off 1 bottle so now only has 4 per day. He is having 3 solids meals per day and devours rusks! No teeth here but Caitlin didn't get any until 11 months so we will see. He has been sitting for about 3 weeks and rolling since Easter. He is driving me crazy rolling over in his cot and then cracking it when he gets wedged up against the side. When he rolls over on the floor he does lots of 360's and goes backwards but hasn't worked out anything forward yet. he just assumes skydiving freefall position and screams with frustration! He says mumma but only when he is whinging so it is more like muuuuuuummmmma! He has had a massive growth spurt and now is wearing a combination of 00 & 0's! I love it when he wakes up and when you go in to get him you get the whole face grin.

He had his 1st flight just after Easter and was really well behaved (both ways) which was a relief! It was only from Melb to Qld and back but great to get one under our belts. He also slept really well in the portacot at the hotels. Hopefully he stays as well behaved for our USA trip in Oct!

We have been lucky, touch wood, that apart from the whooping cough scare we had in December, we haven't had any sickness. Hopefully it lasts but with Caitlin in kinder and the cold weather really kicking in now, I am sure there are going to be some bugs bought home! We have our 8 month check up in a couple of weeks and I am really looking forward to seeing how the little man has progressed, he is really heavy so we will see if he has jumped up a curve or two!

Anyway, thats about it here. Winter is flat out for us with DH & I both playing hockey and trying to fit in training for us both as well as games but I will try and get on here more often to see how everyone is going.

how are all the bubs going? any teeth yet?

Miss Em now says mum mum and dad dad, she waves and is pulling her self up on everything! no teeth yet thou but i dare say they are not long from coming through!

Miss P is traveling along nicely... no teeth but DD1 didn't get any teeth until 14 months and DS was about 9 months so I don't expect her to teethe early! She's happily chomping away on whatever I give her to eat. Sweet corn is a current favourite which makes for interesting nappies!

Miss P says mumumumum and dadadadada, but I'm not sure it's deliberate at this stage, I think it's just noise making really. She has just started waving but it's a bit hit and miss, not very reliable!

Still loving boobie and co-sleeping under my chin, tucked up against my chest. No sign of crawling, although she can sit unaided for quite a while now. Our only issue is still that Miss P loathes being left on her own... at all. So if I put her down she expects me to sit next to her or she screeches! She spends most of the day on my hip or in a sling. I keep reminding myself that she will find her independence soon enough and I should enjoy all this snuggle time. I can snuggle her to sleep then slip away so I get an hour or so to do all the housework bits that I can't do with one hand! It has been a bit difficult as we bought a new house last week (very excited!) and so ours is now on the market and I am having trouble keeping it spotless and holding Miss P all at the same time.

One of the things I am really enjoying is watching Miss P develop a relationship with her brother and sister. So much love! She get really excited when she sees them and starts squealing and jumping up and down, big grin on her face. I get some housework done in the afternoons when DS and DD are around to entertain Miss P!

Awwww, nickle, that's beautiful! Nellbell is a bit velcro as well. She possesses the ability to sit for ages, she just doesn't want to. Would rather be perched upon mummy's back, hip or chest, thanks! I cart her around the house, and find having her on my back the best for doing housework, but she's very interested in "things" and I'll often discover a sneaky hand undoing curtain ties or ripping all the magnets off the fridge. Ca't help but laugh at that. Showers are really hard at the moment - I don't trust her to sit on the floor on the tiles, but she won't sit in the pram and watch me anymore. I'd take her in, but she hates getting dressed so much, it wouldn't be worth it!

We're going great guns on t he solids here. Big fan of curry and chilli! We had chilli pasta the other night, gave her some plain pasta and that got chucked ont he floor, but gave her a mushroom in the chilli tomato sauce and she inhaled it! Also, plain broccoli is boring, but broccoli dipped in curry sauce is a winner. And lentils are a great love. She chews incredibly well for someone with no teeth!

We had a bit of a scare today - I got Nell up from her sleep only to find her ear FULL of blood. I flipped out, DH rang (returning my call about an offer on a house) and I was all panicked, so I just grabbed my purse and keys and popped her in the Ergo to go down to the medical centre. Turned out it was just a scratch that bled and bled, but I'd gone down there with no clean nappies, no food. Thank heavens for the boob! The nappy just about fell off by the time we got home.

We've been getting a few sleep throughs here and there, but it seems that 7pm-2am then 2-6 then on the boob and snoozing til 7 is how it goes. I'm pretty happy with that set-up, I have to say! When she's not night feeding, she seems to stop gaining weight, so I'm happy to keep it going. We have our 6 month check tomorrow, so will have to let you all know how that goes!

Audax - so funny (but than not funny) that you should mention the ear and blood! we had the EXACT same thing yesterday happen to Miss Emily! she woke up and all i saw was blood on her cot sheets everywhere and in her ear and down side of her face! i of course freaked out BIG time, but rational DH said lets clean her face and ear up and have a look, she might of just scratched it and yes that is what it was! tell tale signs on her fingers also! Phew!!!!!!!!!!!! very very scary though!
Wow Nell and curry and chilli hey! thats awesome! and what taste she has hahahaha i should try Miss Em on something like that!

Nickle - i so so remember those days with DD1 not being able to leave her side for a second! they were long exhausting days, but when you look back at it it makes me feel loved because she only ever did it with me and not DH! :)

We're the same here Nickle. Kaden has been saying mumumum and dadadad but I don't think he associates it with us, even tho we praise his achievement. It's all fun and noises to him.

He will also sit unaided for ages. Soooo close to the crawling stage. Up on all fours and rocks. Scooches forward to get to things (commando).

Still having a few issues with BF. Will only take bottle during the day at home. Haven't been able to get out to get him a sippycup. He is fine at night and if we are out somewhere, will take boob no worries. Was thinking it's a distraction thing but he won't even try at home. And won't sit still enough to cup feed and it ends up all over him.

We are half BLS. Loves toast and fruit and veges. But also loves his cereal and puree's.

No teeth here either, loads of drool and chomping so maybe not far off. Although I was saying that a while ago too.. lol

Well it's a beautiful day outside so I'm gonna take bub's for a walk :)

Hey guys, how are we all???

Things are great here, am loving how interactive DS has been lately!! He says mum and it's not just sound!! :dance:
Also tries to clap but doesn't open his hands so he hits his fists together, and when he waves bye, both arms go flapping. He has learnt so much in the past week or two it's amazing!! I love it!! Still just rocking on all fours, although he moves backwards (mooncrawling :lol:), it's so cute, he stares at his knees when he does it..

oooo and there is a noticeable bump on his bottom right gum!! Not getting my hopes up tho, it will then likely go down again :rolleyes:

Work is going so well.. has been great to catch up with everyone and also have that break. 3 days is definitely enough tho.

Tried typing a post the other day and lost it all, so got frustrated and logged off!!

In short!

We certainly had a wonder week the other week. One Friday I was saying how much I think DS just likes being a baby and wouldn't eat or roll or do much but lie on his back! The next Friday I feel like he's into everything. Rolling to get places like a champ, sitting up all of a sudden, lots of gabbling away, three teeth and eating solids - wow!

The solids thing came about due to trying BLS - I'm heading over to that section soon, Audax - so hope to get some advice from you there. DS was fending off spoon food as though he was the karate kid and choking it down as though it were the spiciest indian curry (yeah, right - just rice cereal or pureed apples!). Handed him a stick of avocado in frustration and he ate it!! He still refuses anything by spoon and wants to be independent and eat himself. I was concerned that he's not really getting any of it, but have been reading that this is all ok! And besides, his horrible nappies are proving me wrong. Only thing is that I'm worried we're doing lots of starchy bread and biscuit things, but fruit and veggies are hard, they just seem too soft and he mushes them everywhere. Look forward to reading some advice on this today.

eza - lovely that you're getting mum sounds - how cute! And backwards crawling too - that's great. Hope work is going well for you. My boss called the other day, so it was hard to get back into that head space! Don't go back until end Oct though!

Audax - how did your six month check go? We have one at 8 months instead. They have sent out a questionnaire with questions about whether baby can do this or that. Must admit I haven't even tried for him to do some of the things on there. Guess that's why they post it out early. Didn't have anything like this at all with DD, so will be interesting to see how it goes. Mind you, hopefully I have the nice nurse, last time I went I couldn't see the point when I got lectured (it did just go in one ear and out the other!!).

OK - off to look more at BLS!

we have no toothy pegs here but have just had to lower Miss Em's cot as she now is standing up!

Wow. No teeth, no movement here!

We were both really sick last week, got hit by a shocking cold. Little girl is still all blocked up in her nose, but I'm OK now. Luckily my mum managed to come up and stay, so I could get some rest. Eleanor is such a shocking day sleeper that I really wasn't getting the chance to catch up.

Not much other news really. A bit of constipation, which surprises me, as her favourite food is anything to do with lentils, and her favourite activity is sucking water through a face washer. You'd think that would all work together to keep her going, but it doesn't seem to. Poor little pet works really hard to get them out.

We went to visit my sister on Sunday, two hour drive each way, she had some good sleeps in the car, and in between just sat up on the table at the cafe, smiling at everyone and throwing her toys on the floor, laughing as her auntie and grandmother picked them up.

star - We steam vegies so they are just firm, and serve them along with whatever we're having. She loves vegies dipped in soup or pasta sauce. The other night we gave her a big long sliver of lasagne and she just slurped away at it. Was good fun :D

Xavier is awesome he has 2 little teeth and hedoes his own weird little crawl, very hard to explain but very similar to the conventional crawl so i assume it wont be long now! He can get from laying down on his tummy to sitting up and he can sit for hours! He is such a happy bub... while mumm is around! the minute i am out of site he tends to start whinging. He is still loving his booby and is right into eating anything... as long as it is not on a spoon, so no baby puree's for him lol
He wont sleep in his own bed to be honest i dont think he has slept in his own bed all night.. ever! He does however sleep great snuggled up next to his booby!
Oh he is startign to talk too.. says dadadada and nananana and he has said mummmmmm a couple of times but he has no idea what he is saying lol

No teeth here but DD1 didn't get her first tooth until 14 months so I'm not expecting an early teether!

Miss P can get herself into crawling position and rock back and forth and she drags herself around on her tummy a bit, but she would much rather someone carried her around, thanks very much!

She's loving her food and will eat just about anything. Doesn't like tomato, loves toast! I gave her a tiny taste of my ice cream the other day and she looked like she had just discovered the eighth wonder of the world! She was trying with all her might to get some more so maybe I shouldn't have let her taste it in the first place...

We have all had colds and Miss P is still pretty snotty and stuffed up. I got her some of the Brauer's runny nose mix today so maybe that'll work and we'll get some sleep tonight! Still happily co-sleeping, Miss P has spent a total of maybe 10 minutes in the shiny, expensive new cot I bought for her!

BF is going well, Miss P loves the boobie and dislikes the bottle so lots of BF, some solids and a couple of FF top-ups each day.

I'm going back to work in four weeks. I'm not a fan of child care (we used it for DD1) so i have decided to work weekends instead. Means I can do the school run all week and the kids will have daddy on the weekend while I'm at work. Also means we don't have to worry about care for the big ones during school holidays. Not ideal as it cuts into family time, but I'm much more comfortable knowing that the kids will always have either DH or I. We'll see how it goes and I can always change my shifts if it doesn't work.

Kaden has already started to pull himself up on things now. Loves to do it in the bath, had a slip and now has a bruise on his head :(

Have started to move everything within reach upwards! what a mission, there is always something he can get into lol. At the moment he is obsessed with the vacuum cleaner, follows it around and climbs up on it. Quite annoying when I'm trying to clean. Also he tipped the mop bucket over the other day, went all over the carpet and himself!! So he is not the only one learning around here :lol:

Does anyone else have issues with there little ones scratching and pinching your face whilst feeding? Kaden has started to do it and not sure how to go about stopping it. He just laughs at my hurt reaction. I keep pulling him arm away but that makes him want to do it even more...

Wow eza! Getting right into the baby proofing! Still nowhere near crawling here, just sits for hours, or if she's fussy I pop her up on my back in the carrier and she loves it. Nellbell is a bitof a pincher too, I can usually distract her out of it with something or other. She fell asleep on the boob the other day clutching a tube of nappy cream. So she took it to bed with her :lol:

Still no teeth. I keep dreaming that she gets them, but then check in the morning, and there's nothing. Last night she was pinching the boob a lot to redirect it into her mouth, and I think that fuelled my dreams!

Little bit constipated too, but we're working on that :D

Xave is a bit of a scratcher while feeding too but i do the same as Audax and just distract him with something else!
We are now crawling here and he is pulling himself up, he has had a few falls already...Once in the cot, once on the side of the lounge and once on the hospital bed when he was sick...c ame home looking worse than he did when we went lol

Xave is a little constipated too, i have started giving hima cup of water to drink ( read:play with :)) every time i give him food!
