Sorry to hear you guys have been sick melanie, hopefully you feel better and it goes away quick.
Charli was horror last night, didnt wanna go to sleep and was really unsettled until 10pm which wouldnt have been too bad if i had the energy to deal with it. My whole body was aching, i had a headache and my throat was sore. Luckily the sleep (which i got quite a bit of) helped me. Thankfully she made up for being so horrible by only waking twice between 11pm and 7.30am.
Hope everyone is well, i think i'll head back to bed for a lil while. hehe

Melanie, hope you and DH are feeling better soon.
Katie was 4 weeks yesterday, it feels like forever and no time at all, all at once. We've finally had some success getting her to sleep more at night and to self-settle at least half the time. Can't get her to sleep in the mornings though. The MACH nurse said that she should go down to sleep about 45 minutes after every feed, but no matter what we try, she won't sleep from when she gets up in the morning (any time from 6 to 9am) until at least 1 to 3pm. Still, she is going down at night by 9.30 to 11pm and can sleep through until 5am some mornings so we really shouldn't complain.
She's started making funny little noises which are so cute and according to the literature she should start taking an interest in toys and things very soon.
Anyway, enough of my bragging (and complaining). My sister and her partner are coming down from Sydney this arvo to check her out so I have to get organised. My sister is an osteo and she is going to give Katie the once over while she's here...might get her to have a look at my back while she's here too, my posture is not terrific...all that breastfeeding.

hi everyone
hope your all going good and it seems that your bubs are growing well, wish my lil man would start gaining some weighthe has lost another 10g so hes down to 2570 he was 2730 at birth i think the nurse will tell me to comp feed him but i really just wanted to fully b/f. he did have quite a large bump on his head from hitting on my pelvis when i was in labour and was thinking that the weight that he lost this week could be because the bump ia all gone now well i really hope thats why. he feeds every 2-3 hrs and is having lots of wet naps but not very many dirty ones. i startted to take some fenugreek tablets to build up my milk supply and he seems tro stay on longer alomst an hr now its been so hot for him and we both end up in a pool of sweat by the time he has finished.
oh well i better keep goin take care

Lira, it really bugs me how we all get so hung up on if our babies are within in the right averages and tolerances for sleep, wees, poos, weight gain, etc, etc...and I'm just as guilty of this as anyone. I think that gut instinct is powerful and if we feel that our baby is OK then we should really try not to fret about whether they've gained the 'right' amount of weight etc. So hang in there, and go with your gut!
PS. We're still waiting for summer down here in Canberra. It's been the low 20's, but the wind chill has made it much colder. No doubt in a week I'll be complaining about the heat!

Hi guys - I haven't posted in a while, but have been keeping up.
Fussy - summer certainly hasn't arrived in Melbourne yet either, but i don't mind as I really don't like the 30+ days.
We are going along ok, every night is different with Logan's sleeping patterns. He went to bed a bit early last night and so woke up at 12, 3 and 6, but his 3am feed was accompanied by lots of screaming consistently for about an hour as he had wind pretty bad. He ended up being exhausted and falling back to sleep in our bed. Poor little guy, he is still there now actually. We have our 4 week appt tomorrow and I know that he is going to weigh over 5kg - he is such a chubba (but he was born big though). I started christmas shopping on the weekend. We hope to do a bit each weekend so that we don't have to rush around like crazy at the last minute - i didn't realise how long it takes to get so little done by the time you stop to feed a couple of times and change nappies etc.
Melsa - hope you are over the gastro.
Everyone else a big hi and hope you are going ok.

Hello
Hi everyone,
Had the community nurse come yesterday and David has gained more weight. He's now 2.78 (he was 2.2 born) I'm still comping and having alot of trouble with b/feeding. Everytime I try to attach him he only sucks a few seconds then pulls his head off and screams or wont attach at all, or thrashes his head around, its very frustrating and upsetting. I end up trying for 15-20 mins and then giving up in despair and giving him a bottle. Of course when I told the nurse and then fed him while she here he didnt do it at all. Oh well she's coming back again next week so hopefully we can sort it out, fingers crossed.
Last night was so unsettled for hours no matter what we did then he finally settled at 12am and slept til 6, so I woke up in panic thinking omg is he ok?
Kylie- Logan sounds like he's doing really well. I think the problem with David is wind too but not sure. Does anything in particular help with Logan? You're right about shopping. I'm lucky I usually have my mum with me or I wouldnt get a thing done.
Lira- David also lost weight a week or two ago he lost 40grams but has since put that back on and then some since I've been comp feeding. Hopefully you wont have to comp feed it does take so much extra time. Good luck.
Kirra and Mel - hope you're feeling better!
Hello everyone else! Is everyone getting baby a xmas present? Not that they will know whats going on but its still nice for the photos isnt it.
Take it easy,

hi everyone
well im feeling a bit down after my app with the nurse she wants me to comp feed as jarvis is down to 2500grams makes me feel like im hopeless at b/f but she said that she just wanted him to have it till he puts on some weight then he should be ok i hope that is the case i really wanted him to be fully b/f just makes me feel like giving up and just giving him a bottle

Fingers crossed Lira and Ness that everything comes good soon. Makes me realise how lucky we've been with Katie who took to breastfeeding straight-away.
Kylie, I feel your pain with the screaming for no apparent reason. Our little angel often decides that she is JUST NOT HAPPY, which is so frustrating. Although my mum said today that this is the good bit...just wait until they can talk back and you'll be nostalgic for the days when they couldn't speak, LOL.

Lira just wanted to say I know exactly how you feel, I've been feeling the same way. Sending you hugs.

thanks heaps ness it's really hard to give him a bottle but i know he needs it the nurse said that once he has gained some weight he shouldn't need the comp feeds i really hope so i forgot how much that stuff smells. how often do you have to feed david?? the nurse said i have to comp feed at every 2nd feed during the day and just boob at night, how much does david have for his comp feed i have to give jarvis 30ml and only give him 15mins on each boob i think that is wrong and what do you do when they want to cluster feed??? hope david gets the hang of b/feedin so we both can go back to feedin them really soon. i just dont get why jarvis wasnt gettin bigger as he goes well to the breast and feeds well has lots of wet naps just dont get it.
take care lira

Just took Logan for his 4 week appt, and he has put on another 640g in 2 weeks which puts him at the grand total of 5.385kg. He is too long for 000 suits that have the feet in them now
Lira/Ness - hang in there and i hope things work out for you, i can only imagine how frustrated you must feel.
Lira - I haven't figured out what works yet for the screaming, he eventually just falls asleep. My friend told me i should try taking him for a drive next time this happens!!
Fussy - We had another screaming session last night after a perfect day of sleep, feed etc, he wouldn't go down to sleep for the night until 11:30 and we were trying to settle him from around 8:30 or so... hopefully tonight will be better fingers crossed.

Hi everyone,
I'm slowly starting to adjust to the little amount of sleep I'm getting these days. Samuel is still unsettled in the evenings which I find hard as it's when I get tired too and DH is now sleeping in the spare bed during the week as he has to be up early for work and has to use machinery during the day so needs to be alert. I'm finding this really hard. I feel a little lonely as I'm home by myself with Samuel all day and am now sleeping alone too. Last night I got into bed and cried myself to sleep. I know it will get easier - it already has - but I can definitely see how new mothers get depressed!
Lira and Ness - I hope things are getting better for you both. I'm really surprised at how difficult breastfeeding is. Before having a baby, in my naivety I always thought you just grabbed the baby and whacked them on the nipple and off you went!! Obviously, it's not like that at all! It's so physically and emotionally demanding. I'm thinking of you both.
Kylie - glad to hear Logan is growing well.
I'm wondering when everyone has taken their babies out into the world? Samuel is just over three weeks and we went to a wedding on the weekend. We've also taken him walking in the park. I'd like to take him with me Christmas shopping but some people have suggested that I should avoid large crowds until he's older because of germs and viruses etc. But how old? And is it really necessary? What has everyone else done?
Chat soon.

Hi all, havent posted in a while but i've been reading your posts.
Regarding the breastfeeding, i know how you guys feel, it is very demanding and very upsetting when they won't attach or seem constantly hungry. Charli is finally slipping into some sort of pattern, she seems to be feeding every 3 hours sometimes only 2 but most every 3. Before she was feeding every hour or so sometimes less and would scream then feed then sleep and repeat that process every half hour from 5 or 6pm until 10pm.
I have heard that sometimes the reason for them pulling off and screaming is that the milk flow s too fast at first because your boobs are so full, so if possible express a lil first (i use the electric medela breast pump and it works great). I expressed for the first time on saturday arvo and got 120ml out of just one side in less than 10minutes.
She is also sleeping alot better, i went to a sleep and settling class on saturday and they discussed all sorts of ways to settle baby to sleep. I've started using the angel wrap so her hands arent so restricted because she hates it and then putting her into bed to settle herself to sleep, so far its working great. They also told me that for a baby her age she should be sleeping 15.5hrs a day and should be awake for no longer than an hour at a time including her feeds, i've been followin that rule and so far so good, she is doing a lil controlled crying (only for a minute or so) but the last 24hrs she has gone to sleep using this method all by herself without me having to rock her or cuddle her to sleep.
If anyone would like more info on the sleep & settling stuff pm me and i'll email you the scanned flyers with all the different info.
GL with sleeping and settling those beautiful babies.

Melanie, we've taken Katie out to the shops at least twice a week since we brought her home, in fact shopping malls are about the only place she sleeps during the day at the moment...we think its all the white noise there...not to mention the car ride to get there. As for germs, I a bit baffled as to how they're a problem...unless you're planning on dragging Samuel along the floor or something. Katie pretty much just stays in her pram or in the sling, and only comes out for a nappy change (we take our own change mat) or a breast feed.
Kirra, I've pm'd you with my details, I'd love the sleep tips.
Hope all are well.

Melanie - I have been taking Logan out and about since he was less than a week old. I even took him to my work (which is a school) when he was 1 week and he was passed around alot and it didn't effect him in the slightest. I think it comes down to what you feel comfortable with. Don't forget that breast milk provides lots of antibodies to protect bubs.

I'll email you those tips later, just scanning the sheets.
Charli was soooo good during last nights feeds, i did the angel wrap and she only woke up twice during the night for feeds. once at 1am and the other at 4.30am. Went straight back to sleep, it was the best nights sleep i've had in a long time. lol. Hopefully she keeps it up although it was prob just a fluke. lol
Melanie- I took charli to the shops when she was only 4 days old and shes been up with me twice a week since, i saw the doc on monday cause i was worried about her belly button and i also asked him about letting me sister hold her etc as she was coming down with a cold, he said its fine she bf which helps and being exposed to germs helps them to build immunity to them so keeping them in and hiding them away can actually make it worse for them if you know what i mean.
For example and its not the best but my aunty never exposed my cousins to any kind of cig smoke at all until they were old enough to expose themselves to it and they all have really bad asthma. Like i said not a good example but i've been exposed to cig smoke since i was a baby and i am healthier than them. Not saying you should expose bubs to cig smoke btw just using it as an example.
