OMG Lee-Ann Milo has done the exact same thing the past 2 nights.
He's fine in the bath, having a great time, but when I get him out and start drying him, he screams louder than any crying he's ever done in the past. Last night I had to strip off for skin/skin before he'd clam down enough that we could dress him. He then fell asleep, and slept through (9:30pm - 7am)
I don't know what it can be - are they old enough for temper tantrums? Maybe he wants to stay in the bath for longer...
I think I might ask MCHN about it, I'm going to try to ake him there today, as he has dark circles around his eyes and I don't know what it can be. It looks like he's punched himself in the face.
Also he has what looks like cradlecap, but its on his ears, and inside them, so maybe its something else? He doesn't seem bothered by it though, there are no signs that its causing any discomfort.
-
Rachael - Regan has been doing it for the past 5 days. I wondered whether it was her being tired and cranky telling me she's unhappy about being taken out of the bath? I even tried to massage her when I got her out to try and prevent her being upset and it didn't work. But she's the same as Milo will finally calm down have a feed and go to bed for 4 - 6 hours.
I started doing the bath at night to help calm her down & relax her for a good night sleep, in a way it would be good to try another time of day (to see if she still does it) but am worried that she won't settle as easily at night iykwim. Rachael, you'll have to let me know what your MCHN says, I don't see mine until next week. I notice that Regan also gets dark circles around her eyes although I wasn't too sure why it was so?
-
My MCH centre is closed until tuesday, so I took Milo to a different one to ask about his eyes. She had a look at them, and then mine, and said its probably genetic as mine are dark a lot of the time. He's happy, smiling etc and doesn't seem in discomfort.
She looked in his eyes with the torch and just said to keep an eye (pardon the pun) on them, and that if they start to go red that it could be conjunctivitus.
I forgot to ask her about the after bath screaming though - will ask next Thursday when I go for new mums group, or if it keeps happening each night I might ring earlier in the week.
I've posted a topic about it in the general discussion area.

Hi,
Ashleigh has still got a cold. It is taking her a long time to get over it. I am considering whether I should take her to the doctor or not. She has not got a temperature and is feeding better so I am not sure what to do.
Rayray, sorry to hear that bubs is not enjoying her bath. I usually give Ashleigh a bath in the morning time because I have four other kids to get showered and bathed at night time.
I still haven't been to the clinic as yet but I will probably go in the next coming weeks because kids are going back to school next week. So I will have only two at home then and only Ashleigh on Wednesday and Friday as Jayden my three year old goes to preschool those days.

Well I'm shocked but Regan slept 7 1/2 hours last night. She'd only just started sleeing 4 - 6 hours a night, but last night she slept from 10pm til about 5.30am I think it was more like 6.45. Anyway I can't believe it to be honest, but boy were my bb's full I was kind of hoping she'd wake up lol. Anyway it was good to get some sleep. What is the longest your bubs have slept through the night so far? Do your babies consistently sleep that long?
-
Ryan consistently sleeps from midnight to 6am and recently has been going to bed as early as 10.30 to 11.30 and getting up as late as 7am.
It feels a bit uncomfortable but it's more than worth it to get all that lovely sleep!
-
For the last 3 nights, Milo has slept 9.5 hours.
Last night was 10:30pm - 8am
For the past few weeks its been between 6 - 8 hours, varying times to go to sleep & wake up.
After a few nights, you bbs get used to it, until bubs sleeps an extra hour.
I don't mind so much, since Milo feeds less than perfectly its a good opportunity for me to express to stock up for when he starts teething (my brother & I both cut teeth before 4 months)
Since he doesn't put his tongue over his bottom jaw like he's supposed to, I won't be feeding him after the first tooth makes its appearance. :(
-
Hi - Alex slept 8pm to 8am last night/this morning. The last couple of weeks it's been 8-5am or 8-6am.
I think he has a bit of a heat rash at the moment, he's a bit dotty across the bottom of his back and bum.
Booked in for needles tomorrow, finally.
Barb.

To change the subject totally... has anyone started reading to baby yet?
I've started with one of those board books that has different fabrics for baby to touch, and also the picture book the government gave us. Ryan seems to pay attention to both, although he is very uncoordinated when he tries to touch the pages.
He does listen quietly when I read library books to him and I can see his head turning to look at each new page so he seems to be paying attention.
Am I being too ambitious? Do your babies like books this early? I'm curious to hear your experiences...
PS Yay for the sleeping babies. We all seem to be getting a proper sleep now. Lovely!
-
I have tried reading to Milo a couple of times, but he doesn't seem interested.
He does like singing though, and tries to joing in! Its pretty funny.
In the past couple of days he has decided that he doesn't like going to sleep at night anymore (up til now he has settled himself to sleep pretty much every night). We're trying to settle him a few ways, but usually I need to feed him again.
So I'm not sure whether its my supply, and he's actually still hungry, or if he's just wanting the confort. He won't take a dummy, so I can't give him one, and don't want to in case its the hunger..
-
Hi - I don't read to Alex, but I guess he listens when I read to Cait ! It's a good time to read to her when I'm feeding him cos I can't do much else.
He was 'chatting' to a woman in the shops today - all this great gurgling and ahhing.
And here's something you can't talk about anywhere else - before this week he used to poo almost every change/feed. He went all day yesterday without one and today did a big floody one !
Barb.
-
Milo had a poo blowout today too
Its the first time he's gone a day in between, and he more than made up for it!
Better get back to him, i think its dinner time..

Hi,
Been busy off late. Kids have gone back to school this week, so everything will hopefully return to normal soon.
Ashleigh is recovering from her cold but we are still having trouble with her reflux. Have appointment with paedaetrician in March as well as having her first clinic appointment on the 10th March. I know she will be four months old but with christmas and the kids on holidays I just haven't had time to go to the clinic for the appointment.
I had Ashleigh weighed at the Chemist today and she weighs 6.3 kilos. She seems to be putting on weight despite having the reflux problems. She has to go back to the physio next week for a checkup on her legs and her neck, I am hoping everything is fine.
Regarding the reading I haven't started yet but the kids read their books around her so she is hearing someone read. Regarding her sleeping, the last few days Ashleigh is now sleeping from 9.30pm- 10pm to 5.30-6.00am in the mornings. I have to wake her during the week at 5.45am so I can have a shower at 6.30am so I can get the kids ready for school.

Hi - about reflux - my mum keeps telling me Alex has it - sometimes he brings up clear liquid, sometimes its like straight breast milk and sometimes it curdly looking. But it doesn't worry him, he doesn't seem to cry because of it. How do you know if they have it ?
Barb.
-
Not sure how you know whether its reflux or just chucking/possetting.
I think with reflux, they'd be pulling off during a feed and screaming - but you can also get silent reflux where I don't think this happens.
Milo is a happy chucker - he sometimes throws up just as you described - usually though its like straight breastmilk or white curdly looking (partially digested).
He normally does it after or toward he end of a feed and will not cry etc, but just get cleaned up & go to sleep.
A couple of times he's done it while still feeding, and milk goes everywhere!
-
Hi - thanks for that - happy chucker ! thats a nice way to describe it. Gotta remember not to sit down and get comfy without a bib or a cloth nappy. Or wearing anything dark !
Another thing - colic - which mum also says Alex has - do babies get this because they don't burb after a feed ? Is it like stubborn wind ? I thought babies with colic screamed all the time. Alex lets out the odd painful kind of squark, but it doesn't last more than a few seconds.
Barb.
-
Colic - not sure.
Milo gets a *lot* of wind, and if I can't get all the burps up, he gets a pain in his belly and cries, the crying gets softer and softer, he falls asleep for 1-5 minutes, then it starts again. Finally he'll let out a burp and fall asleep properly.
I thought this was colic, but my mum reckons it doesn't happen all the time, and not at the same time, and not every day, and she doesn't think the screaming is bad enough?!
Apparently I had colic, and by comparison Milo is the perfect baby.
-
Milo slept for 10 hours last nigh, a new record \:D/
How many sleeps do your bubs have each day, compared to how many feeds?
Milo has 6 feeds most days, but only 3 - 4 sleeps in 24 hours.
He'll have his big overnight sleep, feed & sometimes play, sleep then
feed->play->sleep,
feed->play-> sometimes sleep, sometimes stays awake until bedtime at night.
The last sleep he has is normally around 12 -2pm, usually for at least an hour.
After that he might have another sleep, but will usually be awake til 9-10pm.
So he averages about 14 hours sleep a day.
Is this enough, and should I be trying to get him to stay up a bit more in the morning to have a good sleep in the afternoon, or just continuing to follow his lead?
-
Hi,
Ashleigh is only on 5 feeds a day. This is the routine for the last couple of days. First feed is at 5.30am in the morning, back to sleep, she awakes between 7am and 8am and she cames out with me and sits in her rocker while I get the kids organized for school. At 8.50 when kids leave for school, we bath, get dressed and have another feed and then she has another sleep. Usually she has about 2 hours sleep and then she either sits in her rocker or plays on her playmat. At 1pm another feed and back for another sleep. Another 2 hour sleep and then more play time and then a cat nap and wake up for 5pm feed, sometimes we have bath or otherwise we change for bed and go and have another sleep until about 7.30- 8pm and then it is play again until 9pm - 9.30pm and then feed and put to bed for the night.
Ashleigh has a rash, and she is very red in the fold of the neck, Does anyone know what I could put on it to make it less red and angry. I think it is because she has reflux and is dribbling all the time. I have to change her a lot as well because of the dribbling. At the moment I am putting zinc and caster oil cream on it.

We use curash powder on Milo's neck when he gets redness in the neck folds. It seems to work OK.
-
Hi - I've never been big on the creams, it's usually damp and soggy where you need to put them anyway. I use the curash powder on Alex's bottom, especially after he's had a big wet or pooy nappy. I have also heard people using cornflower.
Ashleigh has a lot of ups and downs during the day. I guess its hard when you have to get them up for school runs - I'll find out about that next week when kinda has the 8.30 starts.
Alex has been waking around 6.30, goes back down around 8am. Up for lunch around 11 or 12, back to bed around 1 or 2. Up around 6 again - and this is when its hard to get him back down, so sometimes he's still with us at 9pm, so he has two feeds then. So four feeds and three naps and an overnight sleep. I don't know how long he is awake in the cot sometimes before he starts crying - sometimes I stick my head in and he is awake and just looking around.
He slept till nine this morning, I thought my boobs were going to explode !
Barb.
-
Hi,
Ashleigh's neck is much improved the last couple of days. It is less red. The zinc and caster oil cream must be working. Still having trouble with the reflux business, can not wait until I can give her solids as they say this helps with the reflux.
Ashleigh has to go back to physio tomorrow regarding her neck and her ankles, hoping for a positive report on it.

Hi,
Went to physio today with Ashleigh, Positive news on the neck, she seems to be doing better there but her ankle is still too tight and if the stretches don't work by next fortnight she will be back in plaster, so hoping the stretching will work.
Also spoke to Ashleigh's paedaetrician, said to up her zantac for her reflux. Instead of 1ml she is now on 1.3ml. He said because she has put on weight she needs to up her zantac.

Hi - will not mention what a great sleeper Alex is anymore - I have put the mozz on him - I swear he was awake ALL day today.
Good luck with your exercises.
Barb.
-
Ryan only power naps during the day except for 1 big sleep in the afternoon. I'm sure all the babies have exactly the right amount of sleep for their individual needs.
-
Hi,
Ashleigh slept from 9am this morning to 1pm this afternoon. She slept for four hours straight which is rare for her. She is usually only sleeping only 2 hours straight apart from night time where she is sleeping right through now. I don't know whether it is because it is so much cooler today on the central coast only 23 degrees or it because the kids are back at school.
Regarding her exercises, I am doing the stretches every time she has a nappy change hoping that this will help.

Hi - back to normal today ! phew. I was a wreck after only one day of sleeplessness.
The weather here has been nicer too.
When they're up - do youse (!) put them on the floor on a rug or in a bouncer or both ?
Yonks ago I bought a CD designed to help babies sleep, called Dreaming or something and I finally played it today - classical moosic. Alex was in the bouncer watching Caitlin in a tutu dancing around the lounge room, it was so cute.
Barb.
-
Milo has a combination of floor play on a bunny rug, and in a swing.
its an electronic one, but we don't have the swing part turned on yet as its too fast and he doesn't like it. He prefers to sit in it and watch the lights and listen to the music.
We don't have a bouncer, but I'm thinking about getting one.
This morning Milo decided he wasn't going to bed after his feed, even though he was really tired, barely finishing one yawn before the next, and he could hardly keep his eyes open.
So I picked him up, and he let out, simultaneously, the biggest fart and burp you've ever heard.
Then he looked up at me, smiled, and I put him back to bed. He's been asleep since then
I think with his sleeping I've just been expectig him to have more than he must need. And he's been having pretty much all of it overnight and in the morning. So yesterday we tried a morning sleep then up for longer, and ended up with 2 afternoon sleeps.
He probably had the same number of hours as normal, but were more spread out. The only downside was that it threw bedtime out by an hour or so. I think I'll just follow his lead today and see what happens.
-
Ryan spends most of his time in his bouncer (but with the stabilising arm so it doesn't move). He likes to play with the rattles and look out of the window.
He also has time on his sheepskin with his soft toys but gets grizzly pretty quick, especially if he is on his tummy.
-
Hi,
Ashleigh spends most time in her rocker because she is very happy there, if she could she would sleep in there at night. She also has some play time under her play gym with her nursey rhymes going. She loves being on that all the bright colours and the mirror and animals to play with.
Ashleigh is still having problems with the reflux business, I know I will have to bother the paedaetrician yet again to ask for his advice. Her foot is still turned inwards, I got another week to get it right or she is back in plaster again.
This year is going fast, soon I will have to make another appointment for Ashleigh to get her four month needles, it is going way to fast. Before you know it she will be sitting up, even though she wants to sit up now.

Milo slept for 11.5 hours the past 2 nights, and think he wants to drop a feed, but he's not sure - he's having 5 - 5.5 instead of 6 at the moment.
Last night he was all fussy about it though, and as a result he didn't get to sleep til 11:30pm. There's no way I am going to let him sleep til 11am, so I'm thinking about going in around 9am and waking him.
I've been trying to get him to sleep a bit earlier (normally its between 9-10), so last night was a real disaster.
He's moving his neck much better now. When he's on his back he'll move it all around, both sides/middle etc, but on his tumn its still only one direction, though he is holding his head well.
-
Hi,
Ashleigh is sleeping through from 9pm to 5am in the morning when I give her a feed. Ashleigh is only on 5 feeds at the moment and I am having trouble giving her morning feed, so I am not sure whether she wants to drop the 9am feed or not but lately the 9am feed she does not want a bottle so I am putting her feed back to 10am to see if she will drink it then. But she is still fussing over the bottle then and only drinking 80ml. I am not sure what this all means whether she is ready for solids or not.

Hi - quiet in here lately.
We're going good here - Alex is sleeping through the night, but is a bit unsettled during the day, especially when we go out. In the car, out of the car, in the pram, out of the pram ... I think I'd be a bit p*ssed off too.
He has 4 - 5 feeds a day, depending on how well he sleeps during the day, I'm not fussed about giving him 'arf (on the buses anyone ?) if he is a bit cranky.
When he smiles, his whole face lights up, I could look at him all day. He dribbles a lot and gets his hand in his mouth for munching a lot. I wish I had 10 cents for everyone who has asked if he has a dummy or tells me that he looks hungry when he has his hand in his mouth. Or asks if he's teething !
Barb.
-
yep, I get the teething think too, as Milo munches on his hands at every opportunity.
Do they have a growth spurt at 3 months?
Milo is all of a sudden wanting to feed 7 times a day, when he's recently cut back to 5, to the point where he's waking up 2-3 hours earlier to get an extra feed in the morning.
I hope thats what it is, and not low supply.
-
hey - I'm having one of those days today ! I can just hear him now, he's been up and down all day.
I don't know about the growth spurts, I think my health nurse said on the last visit that they slow down in weight and size at around 5-6 months.
I wonder if they just get a bit cluey about crying and getting a cuddle and feed ?
Barb.
-
Hi,
Ashleigh is doing the same thing, putting her hands into her mouth and drooling a lot as well. Usually when they are dribbling a lot and shoving their hands into their mouth that means that there gums are getting ready to start teething. There gums might be sore. Ashleigh has also got reflux and part of that is drooling a lot.
Ashleigh has plaster back on her leg and it will be on for two weeks, after that she might be alright, have to wait and see. She has to see the paedaetrician in 10 days for her reflux and her leg. She also due to go for her first visit to the clinic on the 10th March.
Ashleigh will be 4 months next week, and will be having her four month needles shortly. I am also going to start her on rice cereal at the end of next week and see if giving her solids will help her reflux.

How is everyone (& their bub) going?
Milo has screamed the house down the past 3 days between his last 2 feeds - like 'I'm in pain mummy' kind of screaming. DH wasn't home tonight and in the end I was in tears. I feel completely helpless when it happens. ](*,)
Eventually something worked, not sure what, and he calmed down enough to have his feed, and was asleep by the end.
We went to the paed. today, she was lovely said he's fine, healthy. I told her about the screaming, she didn't htink much of it as it had only happened twice recently, but I'll keep an eye on it & if its regular/ongoing I might give her a call.
40 minutes later we woke up & did a big burp and was asleep again in my arms, so he's back in bed now.
Not sure what it is, he used to do this a fair bit, but hasn't done for almost 2 months now.
-
Hi - a lot of things I've read about crying, say that crying up to three hours a day is normal !
On Christmas eve Alex woke up around midnight with the loud urgent scream - I went in and burped him and he went straight back to sleep - this happened at 1am and 2am also ! He didn't want to feed, just burped and back to sleep.
He's waking at around 4am now, instead of 6 or 7.
I've gone back to work on Friday nights, I've done the last two. The first week Nick got Alex off to bed OK, but last week he rang me at work almost hysterical saying that he wouldn't sleep. Nick took the phone down to Alex's room so I could hear him cry too (thanks!) and by the time he got there, Alex had gone to sleep !
What woudl the baby translater say - boob, boob, boob ... take my nappy off ... stop talking silly to me ...
-
Hi,
Ashleigh is having her screaming fits, during her feeds. Today she refused her first feed at 5am, I just had to give her dummy back and she went back off to sleep, than I tried to feed her again at 8am, she screamed, so in the end I ended up trying to give her some rice cereal with a bit of gel in it to get something into her as she had nothing since 8pm the night before. At 11am she finally took her bottle, 15 hours after her last bottle. Luckily she had some rice cereal with gel in it. I am thinking she is starting to want some food as she is now four months old, so I am going to start slowly by letting her have rice cereal and gel for the first couple of weeks and then try her on other foods.
Ashleigh is now got some sort of guard on her foot because she won't keep the plaster on. The guard I can keep putting it back on whereas I couldn't with the plaster. The physio is now saying that there might be something wrong with her left hip as well as her left foot. Have to see paedaetrician on Tuesday, hoping he can give me some answers.
Ashleigh had her four month needles yesterday, I can not believe four months have already gone since giving birth to her. It seems that after having your babies goes quicker than when you are pregnant.

Time does go fast doesn't it? I can't beleive Milo is almost 4 months old.
He has his 4 month check up next week, but he'll only be 15.5 weeks? MCHN said he can have one later depending how he goes.
He has been sleeping better the past 2 days & seems to have settled down (thanks Shannon) so only lasted for 3 days with the screming- maybe he was having a growth spurt - or just over tired. Hmm.
I got 3 sleeps out of him today which is really good, as normally he only has 2, and sometimes only 1 in the morning then nothing.
Boy its hot here today! I don't know how you guys north of Victoria do it - anytime its over 20 I tell DH I want to move to Tassie for the milder weather. :)
