LOL Vicky - well if its a survival mechanism it definately works. I love that look they give when you tell them how terrific they are!
Kim I was going to say before in relation to that nurse saying Chelsea's not growing much that a) she had a cold and babies dont put on a lot of weight when they're sick..just like adults dont; and b) you said chelsea's sleeping so well at night so if she's sleeping well and generally happy then dont worry about it. youre her mum (and a bloody good one!) and you would know when she's hungry and to feed her. for crying out loud if you havent worked that out after 6months then we'd be worried!!!
Evie is generally in bed and asleep by about 5:30, and has 3 naps during the day. But i was wondering if perhaps I should give her a late afternoon nap and then put her to bed a bit later cos 5:30 is quite early but thats just how it seems to work out.
Also so that I can stay home with evie i am looking after my 5mth old nephew..aye aye aye..all i can say is that i am going to sit down with a beer...i sure as hell deserve it!
-
WOw we are all quiet today, hopefully its because you have all had much more settled babies than mine!!! Jovie has just been whingy and not sleeping & wanting to be held all day. I got absolutely nothing done today :( I had so much on too because it was Matilda's kindy day. Ah well... now to clean the disaster zone I call a house & go to work in an hour.
-
Ive had a nice quite day... Chelsea slept alot.. from 430 to now....so 2 hrs... and 3 other 45 min sleeps... must have been the needles.. or the solids im giving now!
-
Hi all, have had an easy day in my neck of the woods. at least it stopped raining today. I know we need the rain desperately, but it was making my driveway a little hairy! I had to go out to do the shopping this morning, and DH didn't want me to go, he was convinced that I was going to get stuck, or slip on the way back up the hill. Thankfully it stopped raining here about just I was leaving at 7.30, so by the time I got home it had a chance to soak up a bit... Love where I am living, but wondering whether we might have to invest in a 4wheel drive vehicle for the wet season! lol.
-
AJP - I cried too... it really was a truely magnificent thing for BB to do. It felt like a collective hug, and reinforced why I love this place so much.
-
We have about 3 naps a day here ranging from 1-2 hrs. She's picked herself a pretty regular routine and if i catch her at the right time she goes down easily. Otherwise we rock and pat. (we do this a few times a week:))
Ella has moved onto chunky chicken and peas and potatos. Still loves her apple and her fruit custards. Will NOT touch anything that's ORANGE (so no carrot or sweet potato) Its so hard seeing them tackle chunky food - she just gags and gags. But she's *starting* to realize she can chew it.
Kim - How is Chelsea doing today after her shots?
Ann
-
We had a pretty quiet day today too. We came up with a new game I called 'Oinky nose' and had lots of hugs. Gave her a nap this afternoon and put her to bed at 7 and she went to sleep quite happily. Cross fingers for a quiet night. Tomorrow we try solids again!
-
We were out today, at my best friends..her little girl is 10 months so Emelia was playing with her! then had to do the grocery shopping (yay!) my mum looked after Emelia while i did that so that was great! now im going to feed little miss, bath her and off to bed she goes!!
-
Last night Ella woke up crying at 9pm and DH went into comfort her which made her cry even more. The instant i went in she stopped crying and after a few minutes of rocking she went off to sleep. I had tummy ache and standing there rocking her for a few minutes felt like hours... I realised that she can now tell the difference in to mummy & daddy even in the dark. It was a bit sad for me and especially DH that she couldnt be comforted by daddy.
He went in protest to race motorbikes on PS2. He said "i dont understand i was doing everything right..." I wonder if he wore a shirt of mine that would help.
Otherwise she slept fine. Woke for a 5.30 feed and went back to sleep till 8am.

i find the same thing happens with us Ann. But sometimes i'll be trying to get her to sleep and all it takes is for daddy to give her a cuddle and shes straight off to sleep, sometimes reversed. i think that they sense when you're stressed (well i'm pretty sure they do actually!) so sometimes a change in person is a bit refreshing and enough to calm them so they just drift off. my dh says the same thing when it happens to him and i feel terrible too but dont forget that if you are with them the majority of the time it's only natural that they will feel a bit more relaxed if they are upset...sad i know.
i put evie to bed at 7 last night instead of the usual 530 and she slept to 1230 then to 5 and then in bed with me til 8 so i'm happy that she just wakes up cos she's hungry and not for any other reason. i'm hoping that once we start solids that she sleeps longer
I actually also tried putting her to bed this morning with a cuddly toy in the hopes she would go back to putting herself to sleep. no dice. i went in when she cried and she grabbed my hand and pulled it straight to her chest (aww). after about 5 minutes of that i picked her up for a cuddle and she was sound asleep within 30 seconds. I know i always go on about self settling but when i was cuddling her to sleep i actually realised that i like doing that and would be a bit sad when she didnt want it anymore...i wish i would make up my mind!!! :)
-
As soon as i put the bib on evie she pulled a face and started gagging! nevermind even trying the potato! she must remember that terrible farex day. i tried taking the bib off and sitting her on my lap but she was shaking! i feel terrible. what am i going to do?
-
Poor Evie. Try a change of scenery Tara. It worked for us. We now have some of our meals in front of Kmart (on the sofas), in cafes, at the park, on the sofa. She likes the distraction then it doesnt feel like i'm looming over her with a spoon.
We went to chunky pumpkin today and she had one spoon and gagged. She didnt open up again! She now wont eat anything but fruit either. She loves apple and any fruit custards but its tricky game trying to get veges into her.

HI all,
Ann - Aston does the same - settles for me more easily then Daddy, but only if I'm not around. If I leave DH to it, Aston will settle...but as soon as he sees me - he wants me. Poor DH. I think Aston tummy doesnt like pumpkin. The three times he has had it, he has ended up with a tummy ache - so will just stick to the pears and avocado for the moment. Might try him on carrot and see if that gets a better result...
Tara - hugs for Evie. Poor baby girl, she really doesn't want a bar of it does she. Aston at least eats the food, it just doesn't tend to agree with him.
I went shopping today for me! which was very nice. Brought a pair of jeans, and two tops from Colorado. I love that shop.
well the boy is demanding my attention...ciao.
-
Tara - don't stress too much about feeding solids either, really atm its just a trial and you can stop for a week or two & start again. By 9mths they should be having 2-3 meals a day so you have plenty of time. Breastmilk or formula are the most important. If you think she's stressed over the thought of solids, put them away for a week and then start again later. Have you tried her with rusks? What does she do? I hope I'm not being too forceful with my suggestions, I don't want to come off as someone who knows everything LOL far from it!!! I just want to help *hugs*
Same with chunky foods... Matilda gagged until she was around 9 months on any little chunks in her food. I worried about it until I spoke with a dietician that said yes its important developmentally that they start to chew on things etc, but if they are chewing on rusks or on teething rings than to not worry too much about it.
Girls I have Jovie still starting foods that are in tune with an elimination diet which rules out food intolerances & you start with foods that are less likely to cause upsets in the tum.... do you want me to list the low foods to high? Maybe that might give ideas....
-
Quick question:
When you make homemade vegies.. do u add anything wth it?
Like i know when we have mashed potato or pumpkin i add milk and marg....
Chelsea is at FDC today... had a rough night.. woke screaming at 2am.... so slept the night in our bed. Tried Tropical organic fruits yesterday and she loved it...!
Only 6 days til we fly to QLD!!
ETA: That list would be great Christy. Chelsea eats Farex chunky and loves it like that....GP said if she is eating that chunky i shouldnt have to many problems going onto chucnky foods... heres to hoping... atm.. we have jarred runny foods cos im not game enuf to make my own vegies yet...lol
-
Kim I don't, I use water & then puree. When I'm making mashed potato or pumpkin soup for us & just put aside enough for her before adding anything. I think the rule is to start with small amounts of seasoning, marg & milk etc at around 9 months.... or is it 12??
-
-
I think its 12mths Christy. You can add formula Kim to the mash, or just water.
BTW Kim, how has the move gone? Have you settled into the house yet? and where in QLD are you going to? my neck of the woods, or the gold coast? You are such a busy person! mum to a 6mth old, pregnant, moved house, working! your a bloody legend girl!
-
ps...i don't know if you can see it in the photo, but DH had Aston tattooed on his arm, his name, and DOB and a lion, which is part of the Aston Villa badge....
-
LOL there's so much to remember about this solids business!!! I remember some things but not others. I just did a big reading frenzy on it the other day but I tend to look at just whats happening next rather than further down the track LOL... plus we look at the particular foods etc.... bleck
We have foods for Jovie that are low for intolerant babies, meaning that its rare to have reactions to them:
Pear
Red Delicious Apples (strange but they list the type of veges or fruit sometimes)
Mango
Butternut Pumpkin
Sweet Potato
Potato (but its known to cause constipation for some)
Green Beans
Swede
Low-Moderate Foods (next stage... one we are still in)
Paw Paw
Papaya
Custard Apple
Carrot
Beetroot
Parsnip
Peas
Moderate-High
Apples (other sorts)
Apricot
Guava
Rockmelon
Pumpkin (other sorts)
Corn
Zucchini
High
Avocado :(
Cauliflower
Eggplant
Broccoli
Spinach
Tomato
Kiwi
Strawberry
Watermelon
Grape
Tangelo
Sultanas
ETA: Vicky , bit hard to see the tat but would love too!! DH is trying to design one for the girls...
-
Thanks for that Christy
Emelia has a few in the high !! ah well she loves them :D
Had appt for Emelia's arm today they are happy enough that they are not seeing her for another 6 months !!! which means no surgery atm Whoo hooo!!!
We also had CHN appt Emelia is now 10.48kgs and 68.5cms long! wow
The HN said to me today "wow, u have this mum thing down pack dont u? ur doing so well with everything" that made my day:D
-
you're so great Christy, thanks for your suggestions and no, i dont think you're being too forceful at all. i love having something to chew on! (even if evie doesnt) ahhh ahhahhaa i am so funny
-
Vicky the move went very well! Theres some pics of the new house on Chelsea's site (page 3). We are are staying at Surfers. While im up there catching up with one of the girls from my belly group!! Id love to get a tat of Chels and our next bubbas that follow!
Wow Emelia is a big girl....def doing something right....!! Chelsea has to see her health nurse every 2 months....
-
Kim we will be at Dreamworld on the 16th :) Matilda's birthday. We decided no party this year but a fun family adventure ;)
We sort of decided that we would have a few parties but not every year, so this year we gave Matilda the choice of Wiggles world or Australia Zoo and she chose Wiggles world. We sort of thought that she would remember both parties & fun days but it would be good to mix the two since we don't have heaps of $$ we'd make special days very special.
-
where in qld r u christy?
-
We are in Wynnum, bayside of Brissy :)
One of my best friends lives in Mermaid so I head down there often... next time I'll let you know :) we can meet up!
-
sounds good! I was in Wynnum last weekend actually! and my aunty-in-law lives there.
I live just down the highway from dreamworld, sort of behind wet'n'wild
-
Well aston is still having tummy issues with food...can't seem to win, not sure whether to stop completely, or cut back on amount, or pull all my hair out! sigh.
Christy, we do that, alternate between party and family adventure...last year Nathan went to Movieworld with DH and a friend and his dad, Laura had a girl's day out shopping, movies, lunch... She has already decided that for her 13 family adventure she wants to go to seaworld to swim with the dolphins...
BTW thanks for the info on food...I wish Aston could talk and TELL me what is going on. Its difficult to go back to guess work once you have had the luxury of having kids being able to tell you what is wrong. and believe me, before now I had never considered that a luxury, but I do now! lol I guess I will just have to keep on at it, and eventually it will improve. I worry that he will start to lose weight... awww I dont know! sometimes its all too hard!! (Can you feel my frustration...lol?)
Kim have a good time away.
How's Evie going Tara?
Hi everyone else, hope you are having a good long weekend - or is it only a long weekend in QLD?
-
Tried mashed banana today and she LOVED it!! thank goodness, i was so worried she was going to be put off food altogether! what a weight off my mind!!!
Christy I couldnt see banana on ur list there...am i blind? or may u pls tell me where it fits in. :)
Thanks for asking Vicky. I'm sorry youre having food trouble with aston...and i havent got any advice. u can always put food straight on his highchair tray and let him play with it - maybe then he will decide what appeals to him and what doesnt :dunno:
-
Hey christy - thanks for the article reference...I agree totally with what it says, I hate seeing Aston cry. I have pulled over on the side of the road and fed him, rather then let him get upset, so if I have made a rod for my back, then its my back say I! I laugh out loud at people who use that saying. My ex MIL (Who was a massive problem with my two older kids!) used to say it allllll the time.
-
LOL funny you should say that Vicky - I was talking to my SIL the other day and she said the exact same thing re: rod for her back.
I do have to have a little vent though.
I have been reading and reading and really educating myself on sleep training and such, and after reading 'The Con of Controlled Crying' there is no way in good conscience that i could let evie cry at sleeptimes. I am soooooooooo sick of being made to feel weak and stupid for not going along with this irresponsible and reckless craze.
There :wall:
-
Yes, tara, until you have actually experienced it yourself- motherhood that is- you can't really know exactly how you feel. I know that no-one could have told me, and I had tried to explain it to DH (Aston is his first baby), and it wasn't til he was born that DH finally got it!
I guess though, different strokes for different folks, it makes for a far more interesting world. When I had Nathan, I had PND, and there was many a time that I had to go out into the back garden because he was crying... just because of where my own head space was at the time...
I guess what I'm saying is that every one has to do what works for them... have a great day all..
-
I'm really sorry Vicky I didnt mean to come off sounding like that. I can understand it must've been difficult with PND, I had depression for 4 years and found it hard enough to look after myself, I couldnt imagine having to try and look after a baby as well.
I guess sometimes I am just looking for something that tells me what I am doing is right. ALthough I went with my gut this morning and she put herself to sleep.
Again, I apologise Vicky and if I offended anyone else, I'm really sorry
-
Tara its all good :) I think Vicky was saying its different for different babies & emotions. I know you didn't offend me.
I think you are doing a fantastic job!!! Go with your gut. Pinky McKay has a book called Parenting by Heart and its all about intuition and going with your instincts. I reckon that is the best way to parent. Whatever sits right with you & your baby!!! Let no one else tell you that you are doing anything "wrong" there are no "wrongs"... well if you take your baby & shake them and hit them I think I would consider that wrong...
ANYWAY... I put the article up because its how I feel ;)
Banana is medium. I trialled it with Jovie & she reacted. Whenever Jovie reacts its with either a rash within an hour of eating it and tummy pains, or tummy pains for around 12 hours afterwards. She did both with banana.... urgh. She does both with soy as well but milk is just the tummy pain.
-
Tara you are doing a fantastic job. You do whats best for your baby...people will always tell you wats best... but its what worked for them as well. Like when i was having routine problems... your advice worked wonders for me and it appears i have a totally different child now... i greatly appreciated your help and it saved my sanity :)
For the life of me Chelsea will not eat anything other then fruit gels and pumpkin... but i guess its a start. Yesterday she had 1 feed and 3 bottles... and then slept for 13 hours overnight... DH was worried so he woke her at 9am..(she was stirring anyhow), gave her a bottle and now back to sleep again.... wonder if she is catching up with sleep or is still gettnig over her cold? Or should i be greatful she is sleeping so much!!!
Yesterday she started saying DADA.. and now its all she says unless she wants my attentio, so cute. Have been decorating her room all girly, pink curtains with white drapes that have butterflies all over them, new lamp with butterflies and snails and flowers, butterfly book holders.... man i could decorate for days!!!
All of Chelseas old cot stuff we are putting away for new bub (and before you say 'It must be a girl'.....all of the stuff was neutral cos we didnt know if Chels was a boy or girl when we got them) :p
We can nearly crawl!!! SO so so close... but just not there yet!
-
Tara ur a wonderful mum and we all are :D
Wtg Chelsea saying another word!! Emelia says Dada continusly now too no mum anymore its all dada and nan nan!! crawling arghh!!...wat ever happened to being able to put them down and know they couldnt go anywhere, soon they will be following us everywhere!!!
Emelia's 2nd tooth came through yesterday
-
I just caught the cutest photo... Matilda has been walking around in her PJ's with a tiara on and jumped on the lounge, DH asked her to cuddle Jovie for a second and I caught it.... sooo cute. Nearly strangling  but very cute.
-
Hahaha very cute Christy!!
-
Tara - sorry darlin, by no way did you offend me hun. :hug:It was like christy said. sorry if I gave you the wrong impression - my head is a bit all over the place a the moment, and unfortunately the written word doesn't always convey the same message as the spoken one. My main intention was that even with every child in the same family it can be so different - different circumstances, different type of child, different place in your own life, etc... I'm different with Aston to how I was with Laura and Nathan. Probably far more relaxed I think.
Christy I love the photo of your girls. Its gorgeous. Moments like that are precious aren't they?
Kim you sound like you having heaps of fun decorating Chelsea's room... will you post piccies on your web page when your finished? still think your having a girl.. lol
I bet Emelia looks very cute with two little teeth. WTG on the arm too...thank goodness no operation yet.
I gave Aston a rest from food yesterday, and he had a small amount of avocado today. I will re-introduce slowly, and will keep it to a minimum of 1 cube I think for the moment. He likes eating, it just doesnt seem to agree with him I hope that as he gets older he starts to handle it a bet better...
I have done something to my knee, which makes carrying a nearly 9 kg bub around interesting! It is so incredibly sore, and making me very cranky...
-
Supercute pic Christy.
Thanks guys for all your kind words, I am definately going with my gut now..it's never let me down yet!
Hooray for Chelsea! Evie's not saying any words (she did say dada a few weeks ago) but she gets up on all fours and is so close to going forward. She's also doing what i like to call bunny hops where she gets up on her toes from all fours and does a little jump forward. I think it may be time to invest in some safety gates!
