persistence, persistence, persistence. Think Super Nanny. It does take a while - they do think its a game. but it is only from you persistening that they realise that mum means business. When we first started doing it with aston, he would do the same thing - come out. and then I would put him back in again, and restart the time. and Christy is right, after about 5 days, of continualling doing the same thing it does work. First get down to their level and give a warning "If Chelsea/Evie doesnt stop doing XYZ she is going to have to sit in the naughtery corner/spot/step for 2 mins" if they don't stop, pick them up, put them in the naughty spot, and say "mummy's put you here in the naughty spot because you didnt stop xyz when I asked you to. You have to stay here for two mins" Walk away. of course they are going to follow you. DONT SAY ANYTHING. just pick them up, put them back. and continue this over and over until they stay there for two mins. When the time is up, go over to them, get down to their level and repeat "mummy put you here because you did xyz. Say sorry mummy, kisses and cuddles" and then move on. It will work - I promise you. to stop yourself going completely insane while doing it, find a mantra to say over and over in your head to keep yourself calm. stick earphones in. whatever works. The problem I have with putting them in their room, is that I want Aston's room to be a fun, safe, sleepy kind of place... if that makes sense.
Please don't think I'm telling any of you how to do suck eggs - This is just what I do. and it really does work. I have seen it with other kids too. my big kids have a chill out zone that they have to go to when the *****e hits the fan.
One more thing - pick a week to do it when there isn't a 1000 other things going on. I think that would be morely likely to lead to success. the other reason I pick a naughty spot is that is portable. I can do it at anyone's house. consistency and persistence are the keys
I am feeling profoundly and deeply sad at the moment. My sister's children are being so badly affected by her insane behaviour that is like watching a frieght train heading towards a stationary car on the tracks in slow motion. I hate it. so my "tone" in this post may seem a little terse. I apologise. I want to wave a magic wand and make it all better. I want to pick her children up and bring them here and make them my own. If only it was that easy.... life never is ... is it? :(

So...Chelsea being norty...
1. walk her to the corner
2. Chelsea you done XYZ wrong and you have to sit in the cornor til mummy says you can move
3. Walk away...if she follows says nothing and take her back
4. Repeat until she stays?
5. When time up praise her for staying and doing the right thing, but explain she cant be naughty
And just keep at it??
Gee i gotta master this within 8 weeks!

lol Kim it feels like heaps. We started it a few months before Jovie was born when Matilda was 2... doing it that way & it does pay off. BUT pick your battle or you will spend all day in there! We call it the "thinking spot" rather than the naughty chair but take your pick. The thing is to not talk too much, just say it and walk away and ignore the back chat etc... sometimes it may be them stomping or kicking the chair whatever, just ignore it. Atm Matilda screams "I don't like you anymore" and we ignore it. The more you talk, the more you get back.... deep breaths....
I'm pretty sure Triple P has some techniques on their website. If I find the link, I will PM you.

I used to love watching supernanny so have seen her do that many many times, i think thats the thing - staying sane while doing it. not only that but i feel so sad that so much of my time gets taken up doing this that poor chi-chi is left on his mat...busying himself. but i guess that once i get this 'thinking spot' down, it will take less time.
I agree with you Vicky, i want her room to be a sleepy and safe place too, i know exactly what you mean. especially since she's just started sleeping thru and going to sleep on her own!
lol evie calls weet-bix 'weet-pips' lol hours of fun making her say it over and over!

hey ho
naughty spot works for us as well - just keep persevering but there will be days it all goes to the dogs. That's when we go outside and burn off some energy.
Jake started at his new daycare last week and for the first time ever has been hysterical everytime I drop him off. I have been staying for about an hour to make sure he settles ok but as soon as I leave he loses it. I know it's a combination of us being away for a week and new environment but it upsets me so much and I walk out sobbing - damn pregnancy hormones....
Spent the weekend at Bundaberg - was invited to do a party up there with an old customer so we decided to make a family weekend of it to ensure the trip was worth my while. As it was the party was a bit crap but was great to catch up with her and we spent the weekend on the beach and playing.
Happy birthdays Jols and Sophie - and I know I will miss people so anyone I have missed so far.
Christy I think tmrw is the day you leave - good luck I hope all goes ok for you xxxxx

hehe kim shes a mixture cos she really looks like DH!!!!
been at teh outlaws lat night got back today! man i hate travelling with a two yr ol! thanks goodness for DVD players~!~!!
for decipline...mmmm i guessing im sort of lucky so far to have a pretty mellow kid (i know my time WILL come) we dont need to decipline too much, i find warning s work well to prevent tantrrums etc... i let sophie know what is happening next i.e at the park i tell her one for slide and were going etc... one more book with daddy then time tobrush teeth, works well so far!
i agree with vicky and christy that persistance is the key, if you give up after a day she'll know your a push over!! were struggling a little with the big bed but getting better, no as much crying and shiorter time getting to sleep.
i agree opick your battles, ours is the big bed, i have rails down on whole side so sophie cant get out, i figure getting her to sleep there is the first battle i'll deal with teh rails later!
-

LOL so true Vicky, I remember when i came home from hospital with chi-chi and i'd change evie's nappy and be like 'whoa!! you're massive..what the hell happened, your legs are like tree trunks and i need a bath towel as a nappy wipe!'
