Hmmm Dragonbub, maybe you can return the favour and drum it into me?! Having a rough time at the moment, just soooooooo over these sleeping issues. Don't get me wrong, we have made a lot of progress but days like today where he just won't settle it feels like we take 2 steps forward, 8 backwards!!
I know it gets easier with time, but right now it's hard to see it. I try not to stress so much about his sleeping because in every other way he is just a delight, he is so happy, feeds so well, is so content it's just this one thing that feels like it gets in the way! I guess nothing is perfect though, is it?
Maybe we're just not over the 3 month hump yet - bring on 4 months I say!!
Hoody - thinking of you and hoping the feeding issues are resolving.
**ETA: Twinsister - keep forgetting to say welcome!!

Hi Ladies,
Well we are back from Townsville. Luckily just before the highway got flooded (so glad we didn't get stuck). The last couple of weeks have been pretty interesting for us. A few days before we left Jacob had a couple of nights where he went from four-hourly to be up every 1.5 and I could work out why. Well that became pretty obvious while we were away because he got his first tooth. I couldn't believe it, 2 days before he turned 3 months old. He has actually been pretty good with it. A little upset during the day, lots of drool and fairly irregular sleeping during the night. I got a bit teary though, because I feel like my little baby has disappeared now. He has also grownup so much over the last few weeks too. Just getting stronger and more vocal. Unfortunately the heat and humidity made him cranky and our fairly loose routine has gone out the window. He is still feeding about every three hours during the day but the nights now are all over the place and we have had the evening screaming sessions, which are more of a tantrum than crying. Hopefully now we are home we can get ourselves settled back again. I am going to start working on putting him in his cot while he is still a bit awake too, as we are still rocking him to sleep. I actually really enjoy that (love my cuddles), but it will make it easier in the long run if he can put himself too sleep.
I have tried to read up on everything that has happened with you all over the last few weeks. I hope you don't mind if I don't do personals as so much has happened. I will be back on track from now though!
Welcome Twinsister.
Hoody - I am thinking of you. I hope Molly is being a little kinder to you now!!
Hi Dragonbub, Willow and Suse
-
Hey Willow - so often I have heard women in my MOthers group say "he would be just perfect if he didn't ...", it could be dribble, spew, sleep better, feed better, not cry, etc. I even think Caden would be "perfect" if he didn't cry so loudly ( he is VERY loud) I mean, he is about the same grizzlyness as other babies, he is just more vocal! But really, I guess we get what we get, and it sounds like your lil man is thriving in all other ways. Definitley roll on the 4 months! As time goes on, they need less and less sleep during the day, so it wont be as much of an issue. Like you said to me - it DOES get better. My sis had a daughter from hell (lactose intolerant and reflux) and she was bad for 6 months! Eventually she got better, and now my sis is about to have her third!!! Her second bub was the same with the lactose and reflux, but there you go - back for more punishment :D
Hey June78 - welcome back. Luckily we are a slow thread so there isn't alot going on. Wow, our first tooth for our November bubs! Cause for celebration... :D
Hoody - hope things are getting better for you hun. I will remember to PM you my details so if you ever want to catch up, you can just call.
Well, bubs is getting cranky - ready for dinner and bed, so better go.
Whew it is hot!
-
Hi lovely ladies- i dont have time for personals but just thought i'd let you know that since friday Miss Molly has gained 170g so i am a very happy mummy today. I am still on the Motilium but i am cutting down and hope by the end of the week i will be off them. I am still expressing 3x a day and feeding as often as i can. Well i will try and do personals soon and give you a better update. :)
-
Yay Hoody! That's fantastic news - well done you, and well done Miss Molly! Good on you for persevering and for being so determined!!
Welcome back June 78 - congratulations on Jacob's first tooth. I know what you mean about babies growing up - Euan is doing things that he just couldn't do a couple of weeks ago (no teeth yet though), and I wonder what happened to the tiny little baby.
Dragonbub, Willow & Twinsister - hi - hope you are doing good?
I'm off to bed - I think we've just got monster to sleep and because he was up at 5:00 this morning I am absolutely knackered. He was Mr Insomnia today but oh so cute. Didn't grizzle much - just kept smiling and laughing at his poor tired mummy. Little devil...
Sweet dreams to all mums and babies tonight!
-
Just a quickie to say hi - woohoo Hoody! Soon your lil gal will be a big boomper I am sure :D Hope you are coping ok in the heat.
Suse - hi, thanks again for your comments re my birth story.
Everyone else - hope you are having a great week and bubs are taking it easy on you all.
*hugs*
-
June78- Welcome back and congrats on the tooth. Well done on your mini man for coping so well whilst geting it. Its scary how fast they grow up isnt it.
Dragonbub- i'm hoping i'll have a bomber baby sooner than later rather than a little miss petite its so much more stressful when they are underweight rather than a bit chunkier. Do PM me and when it cools down a little we can meet for a cuppa :)
Suse- i know what insomnia baby is like i too have one some days very frustrating but as you say how can you be mad they are just to darn cute.
Willow- How you going hun? thanks for all your support this last week :)
Well i am def alot happier after yesterdays weigh in result. Molly is settling down more and more each day so poor little devil must have been starving these last few weeks for her to have been so unsettled. I am still feeling a little guilty over not having her weighed b4 i did but as willow will understand when its no 2 everything is so much harder and you just dont have as much time to run back and forth to the clinic etc. We had a fantastic night last night as molly slept from 9-6 so a big woo hoo there. I will not hold my breath for another good one tonight but at least i can hope. I had a nice day today and for the first time since she was born i went and did some food shopping alone leaving both girls with DH. I never thought food shopping could be so relaxing its normally a chore with 2 in tow but i had a lovely stroll around the shops today and didnt forget anything. DD1 has been good but had the runs today so i'm hoping tomo she will be over that and a little happier. I'm sure she is just cutting her back molars. 4 teeth to go for her and they are all through.
Well i hope you are all doing ok and a bit cooler than we are its been stinking hot here the last few days- yuk. Well take care yummy mummy's and chat soon :)

I'm here Hoody!!
Gotta go out, have an appt with the GP but will be back later today!
-
I'm here too - have been lurking a bit. Mr Insomnia had a couple of days where we battled to see who could stay awake longest. I won... (He even had nights where he went back to waking during the night - twice!!!). And I don't even want to talk about the days...
Last night though after a pretty much sleepless day, he actually fell asleep at 7:00, woke up for a feed at 8:30, went straight back to sleep, I dreamfed him at 11:30 and he slept through until 6:00. He went back to sleep at 8:00 after vomiting down my back (nice...), woke up an hour later, DP got up and hung out with him and he went back down to sleep an hour later and only just woke up (at 11:30). So he's pretty much slept for about 12 of the last 16 hours - sweet!
I feel pretty crap today though, dunno what it is, just a little head-achey and nauseous.
Sorry no personals today - head not on straight... hope all are doing well...
-
Suse i really hope you are feeling better soon its horrid been off when you still have to function enough to be a mummy.
Our days dont sound much better Molly is an insomniac too. She fights sleep sooooo much and by the time i get her down she is awake and hungry again. Yesterday she only had 3 half hour naps :( This morning she has been quite happy so i cant complain but still she has only had a quick cat nap nothing substantial. We fed at 11 and 5.30 so suse much the same as you. Well DD1 is running a muck so i will chat soon
-
Hoody - yay that's fantastic news!!! I bet she's gaining as she's no longer burning off all those calories crying.
Suse - sorry to hear you are feeling a bit under the weather, hope it passes quickly. It's so hard to feel blah and look after baby at the same time.
Dragon - Yhat's so funny you say it's really hot there cuz it's cold and snowy here. A week and a half ago it got down to -30 celcius! Brrrrrrrrr!
I don't think Cameron was feeling well yesterday as he slept on my lap all day (I felt bad for him but it was so nice to cuddle him, and I managed to read an entire book!). He's teething so he's been a bit cranky lately. Although I REALLY didn't want to I ended up givng him a soother. I felt so guilty at first as I was so determined not to ever use one, but he's too young to be able to hold onto a teether and he's so much happier with it, I guess that's what's most important. My boobs are happier too as he's not latched onto them 24-7 anymore. My co-workers threw me a belated baby shower the other night which was really sweet of them, and the soother made him a lot easier to bring as he sat contentedly in everyone's lap instead of squirming and fussing. He's getting his shots next week (had to delay them as he was sick) so I'm hoping it helps him through those as well.
-
Twin sister i cant even imagine how cold it is there. I would be terrified of going out and Molly freezing. Here like Dragonbub said in perth its been stinkin hot this last week. Today was 28 celsius so alot nicer than the mid to high 30's we've had. Thank goodness we have air con but only in the main living area and master bedroom so DD1 feels it the most. I am always paranoid about going out and the girls burning as they are so fair. I gave Molly a dummy very early i am not for big kids having them but when they are little i think whatever works iykwim. Mind you Molly very rarely will keep hers in she prefers her fist. I hope Cameron is a bit happier for you today. :)
Hi Everyone else i hope you are having good weekends.
-
Yay Hoody. Thats great news about Mollys weight gain.
Suse - hope you are feeling better.
Twinsister - Wow, I can't believe your weather. I moved away from what I thought was cold when I was growing up, but it was nothing like you have.
The start of this week was all sorts of fun here. Trying to settle Jacob back down after being away for a few weeks and him teething, meant we were up about every 1.5 overnight and lots of tears when we tried to get him to sleep during the day,him and me :(. Went and saw the CHN and she said that now he is 3 months old we can give him Nurofen so we did that and he slept really well . Well, four hourly (most of the time) overnight which is back to what he was doing before the teeth and the holiday. Plus a lot less tears for his naps too. It didn't help that we have also had visitors this week so he hasn't been able to get our full attention.
I have pretty much resigned myself to him just having 4 lots of 45 min naps during the day. He seems pretty happy with that and there isn't much point fighting with him to go to sleep. So I am hoping we are starting to find a bit of a rythmn again. He seems to be about 3 hourly during the day. Feeds at 6, dreamfeed at 10 and then if all goes well another feed at 2 (but its often a bit earlier than that). After the 2am feed its pretty variable as to when he is awake again, but I am sure that will sort itself out. Suse and Hoody I would love him to sleep through like your bubs seem to be doing, but he doesn't seem to want to give up the early morning feed yet.
Oh and we got him weighed and he is now 6.8 kgs, so still packing it on, although I think he his storing most of it in his cheeks.
-
June - wherabouts did you move away from??
Hoody - It's not so bad. I have one of those car seat covers so I just tuck him in with lots of blankets and the cover, and he doesn't seem to mind at all. Thankfully where we live it rarely gets as cold as it did a few weeks ago. Right now it's -3 celcius and sunny. Hubby is skiing today.
I'm a bit sad as I missed a first today. I was playing with him on his floor gym and asked Hubby to watch him for 10 mins before he left so I could have a shower. When I got out he said Cameron had rolled form his tummy to his back (he's been trying lately but this was his first successful attempt). I hope he does it again later for me. He's ion a pretty good mood today but man has he ever gotten attached to his soother already. I agree though that once he's big it has to go.
-
June78- It sounds like you are having a tough time at the moment. Yes most night Molly sleeps from 11ish til about 6 but as i said this is most nights we still have some shockers and our days can be shocking (i say can be but i mean most days) Molly doesnt like to sleep in the day but gets sooooooooooo over tired no matter what i try she will be lucky to sleep for 20 mins to half an hour. Today we fed at 6 then 2hrly til about 2pm and she has only had one sleep of about 1/2 hr so pretty rough. Poor little monkey just loves her cuddles and i can get her to sleep but once i put her down its all over iykwim. Sounds like you are doing really well in the gaining weight area i wish we were. Molly was 4.15kg on tue and TBH i think she is still gaining very slowly. Everyone tells me she looks just like a NB but more aware.
Twin sister- Sorry you missed a first :( I cant wait for Molly to start rolling she hasnt yet. My CHN said she is not as strong as she should be but once she is putting weight on she should pick up quickly. She still has a fairly wobbly head to and is terrible on her tummy.
Well we are doing ok still getting by. I have stopped expressing in between feeds and havent had to top Molly up in the last 2 days which is nice back to just the boob. I am still on the Motilium but have cut right down and i am still taking Fenugreek but i think i will keep on that for a while- a little peace of mind for myself. Well i best go we are off out for dinner i cant see it been enjoyable though as DD1 is tired. She will not go down for her day sleeps at the moment :( so by 5 pm she is a mess. Oh well when we go out at the moment DH looks after her and i see to Molly so hopefully Molly will be settled for me and i can sit back and watch DH struggle  Hope you are all enjoying whats left of the weekend.
-
Wow - so much to catch up on! I have been stalking lately because I haven't had much time to reply...
Hoody - great to hear bubs is back to boob only, but I know what you mean about her development. I have 2 mother's groups, and one of them is a bit more judgemental (or maybe it is just me). It is like "oh, doesn't he do THAT yet?" and I'm like "no, all in good time...". Don't stress too much, DS doesn't like his tummy either, and although he is strong, he just gives up. I figure when he gets stronger and can roll off it whenever he wants he will be a bit more happy with it.
Twinsis - I can't believe how cold it is there! It was supposed to be 39 degrees today, but luckily it only hit 29 degrees. Bummer about missing a first, but at least your DH got to see it, and you will see so many more "firsts" as time goes on. I know I would hate it too, and I don't think I would believe my DH until I had seen it with my own eyes :)
June78 - sounds like you are having a rough time. Apparently bubs have a 45 min sleep cycle, so it sounds like your bub is only sleeping for one cycle and then can't self settle. Is he ok when he wakes up, or is he still grizzly? Cos if he is ok, I guess you are stuck with a non-sleeper, but if he is still grizzly, he might be still tired and needs to stay down. It has taken ages to get Caden into a good routine where he goes back to sleep. He is good at home, but when he is out and about he will wake up after only one sleep cycle. Then he is ok for a while but will get grumpy alot sooner than he would've done if he had had a good 2 hours.
Suse - hope you are feeling ok?
As for the night sleeps, - a good tip I got from a book was to express in the morning (when your supply is at it's best and the milk is also the fattiest) and give this to them before bedtime at night. Caden pretty much started sleeping through the night as soon as I started this. I end up giving him about 220 ml, which is more than I can express at this time of night, so he takes a bigger feed and doesn't need one until morning. It is worth a try for those that are able, if it doesn't work after a few days, just go back to the normal routine! I get DH to do this feed, which gives me a break, and the milk I express instead of feeding him I just put in the freezer for spare.
Well, off to hospital tomorrow for a small procedure where I have to have a general anethsetic. DH is looking after bubs for the day which should be great experience for him! I have never had a general before, so should be interesting.
Have a great week ahead ladies!
-
Dragonbub i hope the procedure is nothing serious and thats you cope well with the GA they can be a little scary if you've not had one b4. I've only had one and felt like i'd had the best sleep ever. I hope you have a quick recovery  Cant wait to hear from you:lol:
