PP - Mia does about 60-80 mls each feed (but throws most of it back up) for her weight (5.72) shes meant to be having 143 mls (5 bottles) or 173ml (6 bottles).
Mia had her MCHN 3 month check today. She has only put on 20 grams in a week :( so the MCHN wants to see her again tomorrow. Mothers group tomorrow again yay! and bishop is coming here at 4pm to talk to me about Mia's baptism.

Hollye - woohoo for the bishop! we have decided to wait until winter to get ethan done, it is just oo hot atm
HOw is mias development hollye - is she meeting milestones? Its hard because ashley was the same with weight gain as you know. (not as little as 20gm but i weighed her monthly as it was doing my head in and watched her development instead).
Hopefully after a few doses of losec she will pick up in the feeding.

PP - X takes about 250ml EBM but only feeds 4 times a day (and is a smidge older).
pp -yeh we are doing the christing in a couple weeks coz we want to move so we want to make sure we do it here before we go. Now i have a new car, we are saving to move. Its great, we are putting away about 100-150 bucks a week. Which is good. Thanks for the article, its very interesting. Yep Mia is quite advanced in her mental development. The MCHN said she is already doing some stuff she expects to see in a 4-5 month old. So that easers my mind abit. More than likley shes just gonna be a little kid. She is getting longer, a good 1-2 cm a week and her head is growing (40cm atm). so shes doing good in every other aspect.
PP ~ Jack is drinking between 160-210mls at a time :D
200mls water and the 4 scoops of powder..which makes up the 210mls.
and is having 5 feeds a day
teru - That's great that you can take Dragon to the cinema. I don't think I'd be able to do it with Maya. She doesn't like being in the dark, unless she's asleep, and she is hard to settle to sleep. I'm thinking of trying one of the mums and bubs sessions, though I know what you mean about other bubs being there and crying. But it's the only way I'd be able to go see a movie.
PP - If Maya does a long sleep, I express a little from each bb before putting her on - otherwise it's too painful for me and she chokes on the let down. That seems to be working for me.
belfie - Wow.. a bit of patting and straight to sleep. That's great for you. I wish I could do that. I still have to rock her to sleep. Sometimes she does wake when I put her down and I can pat her and she'll fall asleep straight away. Which I'm happy with because earlier on I had to pick her back up and start rocking again!

lol well DD refuses bed ... so playschool it is.
I told work i was having 9 months off and will be back in july. I had 9 months off with DD too.
It will only be 1 day a week (maybe 2 if i feel up to it)..so it isnt too bad.
I think it is good that DH gets a full day with the kids lol
i am going back to the same roster i had before maternity leave...
7.30am-12.30pm and afew hrs every 2nd weekend :) and Jack will be heading off to his nannies whilst i am at work during the week and with daddy every 2nd weekend.
ive got a yr mat leave, but thinkin of goin back when we come back frm o/s. i wrk at the cas & its p/t roster wrk but they give special consideration for parents so prolly wrking 1day a week. i dont like the idea of leaving dragon but we gotta make $ somehow! i should grad soon (sittin my exams nxt mth) so wanna look into bookkeepin frm home. any1 hav any idea hw to go abt it??

I can have up to 18 months off UNPAID maternity leave BUT because i finished in August last year i took my holidays i had and ALL of my long service leave which paid me up until after i had Jack...I originally said i would go back in April and that is when i am going back even though i can extend my leave i am not going to..we have too much debt that needs to be paid off quickly...
no work for me... yay! im a fulltime SAHM and i will be staying that way until i buy my business sometime in the future.
Mia is squeeling at the TV atm lol.. shes about to have a bath.
Just made spag bol for tea so thats tea sorted.

Technically and financially i don't have to go back to work :) No need BUT if we are to get ahead financially then i shall do it...hopefully in the next year or two i will be a permanent SAHM :D and have another bubba :D
Me - I love work, and I haver returned 3 days when both kids were 10 months - a nice balance - i love the adult conversation, interaction and feeling of financially contributing - and I just love my work LOL - BUT we dont have family here and my child care centre said prob no chance of a mid year intake - so I might not end up going back until Christmas school holidays anyway, hav to wait and see.
PP - Zander would only take around 100ml from bottle when I was doing it - i havent given him one for 7 weeks though - been too lazy to express and had no need to ... also depends on the quality of your milk, the fore/hind contents etc - I think i said prev in the last 4 weeks his feeds have felt like crap but he still put on 800g so he is obviously getting something. The intake is based on formula, noone will ever know just how much babies get from boobs :)
Anyway, Z just about to wake from sleep #4 today - he has been such a good boy - 2hrs, 1.5hrs, 1hr, and been down another hour so far - gives me time with the other two which is great.
No plans to go back to work here. We are planning to start TTC again Jan 2010.
What a perfect baby I have today. He's been sleeping well & sticking to the routine I so much enjoy. I just wish he would feed for longer. He feeds for 5 mins quite easily then it's such an effort to get him to have more. I know his weight is good, for now, but I know he's not getting enough milk. I just hope it's just a phase he's going through, though it has been about 4 weeks since he's been feeding like this. This morning, after 12 hours between feeds, he only fed for 4 minutes... Any ideas?
Man it's hot today. I have just finished vacuuming & steam mopping my floors. It's such a chore. It always takes me 2 hours, even with my new H2O steam mop. I love it.

Wow, I'm due back (p/t - mebbe 2 days in, & 1/2 day at home) at work end August... if I don't get retrenched. I work for one of the big banks (and no, I'm not a financial bod!) so lotsa restructures atm... I survived the first cut but who knows what'll happen between now & Aug :o honestly I'm 50:50 if I want to go back. It's in the CBD and not exactly a short day, so might be interesting to juggle. Be good to keep my hand in career-wise... but I don't relish the idea of leaving my little man. DH and MIL will look after X... at this stage...
And we're TTC from Oct this year... probably. Maybe. Once I get my episiotomy fixed hahaha!
Georgi - woo hoo for TTC Jan 2010... mebbe we'll be in another buddies thread :D Re X feeding 4 times, yeah it was worrying me a bit at one stage, but honestly I reckon he's just a big guts who likes to fill his belly then snooze it off... like the rotund little bear he is! And the MHCN seemed to think it was ok too, amazingly enough. I think the whole EBM from a bottle makes for quite a different feeding pattern!

technically i dont need to go back to work, but would b good to get extra income. theres no point for me to start or even look for f/t wrk just yet as we plan ttc soonish so we hav an early 2010 bub. the pay at the casino is decent & the benefits r v pretty good so its worth me wrking there even when i do find another job, jst have to figure out the hrs thou.

Why are you concerned about 5 min feeds? DD and DS both had 5 min feeds.
Even when i give him a bottle - he downs 100ml in less than 10 minutes - so i would say he gets the same if not more from the boob.
Some babies are just more efficient in feeding - esp as they get older :)
if his weight is good then i wouldnt worry about it :)
Hot as here too. i took ashley for a dip in a friends pool... to cool her off (she is still fevering). but it is still hot now.
Anyhow.. ethan is sad so i better get him, DH is off to squash and DD is in bed (yes a long day for her - hoping she is in bed for the night).

Well Mia has had 5 bottles today already and downed about 125 mls.. so thats much better. She has been MUCH more settled today too, despite the crappy heat. So hopefull this is a sign that things are going to be looking up for us. Shes still spewing but drinking more so i dont mind. That reminds me, i have to go buy more spew cloths!!!!!!!!!!
Hoping Mia puts on 20 grams tonight. Will make me and the MCHN much happier. 20 grams a week is just not on i say!!!!
Georgi - Zander has the same # of feeds, I cant force more into him and I do try when it is hot here for days on end ... hope osteo straightens him out.:

We've been battling to put Maya to bed since 9.15pm. She was screaming her head off for the last hour and then did the biggest spew I've ever seen. Now I'm attempting to feed her again and hopefully she'll go to sleep after that!

Stoopid heat - it was still 26 deg at midnight in our house and sticky - so I shut up again and put the air-con back on :redface:
Zander woke at 12am - i thought just cos he was unwrapped etc - but nope, he wanted to feed!! What's with that - last feed was 7pm. Anyway, I calmed down and just fed him and whispered to him dont he dare try to have another one before morning ..... well, I heard him at 4am talking and cooing, which keeps me awake cos I am waiting for it to escalate so I gave him a dummy, which he promptly spat out and laughed at me - so I said back to sleep and walked out with baited breath - FF to 7am - Of course I would of fed him again at 4 if he really wanted it - just this heat ... I mean I know I drink 700mls o/n so cant expect him to not have anything either - ....
hes back in bed, off to shower :)
teru - that's great, Zander did side to tummy yesterday, I was encouraging him playing with him on his side and he went over - so I don't count that as a FULL roll IYKWIM ... but he is grabbing at everything now though
Well my perfect baby yesterday is still being perfect. I woke him at 8pm last night to feed him, put him back to bed at 9pm & he woke me at 5.40am by cooing & ga ga'ing. I would of left him till he cried but DH is working arvo shifts so he didn't get to bed till 1am & BJ would've woken him up. So I decided to get up & feed him. He only took a small feed again, then we played & he went back down at 7am. So I managed to get my bathroom clean! We have swimming lessons this morning. I love how it tires him out.
About the rolling... Remember when BJ was rolling at a ridiculously young age??? Well, he's gotten too fat & stopped rolling. I think it's cause he's real bottom heavy (like his mummy) & it's too hard for him to flip. Weird aye. I still do the rolling with him, everyday, though he's just not interested in doing it himself. I tell ya, he's gonna be a little character that's for sure.
SAMI What do you mean by FF to 7am? What does FF mean? BTW I don't buy Milo cause I KNOW I will have scoops of it on my ice cream. I LOVE milo on ice cream

Georgi - Yep finally got her to go sleep at 10.45pm! And then I went and had a well deserved ice-cream (and yep with ice magic too!). As for movies - I thought about going a couple of weeks ago and also saw they aren't on till the school hols finish. So I assume they start again in the next couple of weeks?! As for short feeds - Maya also has some short feeds. Does BJ feed longer in the afternoon or evenings? Maya has quicker feeds in the mornings (when my supply is greater) and longer feeds in the evenings (when my supply is lower). I'm not worried at all cos I think in the mornings she's prob getting the same amounts as in the evenings - just at a quicker rate. :)

TANYA BJ might have a longer feed at night when he's really tired but only occaisionally. He's definately not getting enough, I can tell. I'm not TOO concerned as he's still in the 75th percentile for his corrected age but I'm really hoping he gets over it soon
Is anyone else's bub getting a flat head? BJ sleeps with his head turned to the left & has a bit of a flat head there. I decided yesterday to start sleeping him on his side during the day. I have a wedge that keeps him in place. Maybe that's why he has been sleeping so well. I haven't had to re settle him at all.
He did great at swimming again today. The instructor can't believe how well he kicks his legs when he is passed under water. The other babies his age don't kick their legs at all. Hmmm, maybe I have the next Ian Thorpe on my hands.
I had some old bananas in my pantry so have put together some banana & cinnamon muffins. They smell sooooo good
PP - Did you try expressing before the morning feed? I didn't do it this morning cos I was tired and it's hot again today! And Maya did 3 big spews afterwards. She never spews so it was a bit of a shock. I think it would be from too much milk shooting down her throat!
As for work: I didn't know how much maternity leave to take (I can have up to 7 years off!). I decided to put down Jan 2010 for going back. I thought I'd love being a SAHM, but TBH I'm not really enjoying it and I feel like I'm the only mother who doesn't enjoy it. :( I love Maya so much!! But I still find it so hard. I still have no idea what to do with her when she's awake and TBH I'm bored with the sameness of every day! I am so used to every day being totally different and never knowing what might happen. I also really miss adult company. I am basically on my own with Maya every weekday from 8am-ish till 6-7pm-ish.
I feel like I'm being such a terrible mum for her at the moment cos I am just not enjoying it and all I want to do is be able to put her down to sleep or to play. But to put her down to sleep I still have to rock her to sleep. Plus I still don't know what her tired signs are! So I just go by how long she's been up for (1 1/2 to 2 hours).. which may or may not be enough awake time for her. So I'm prob either putting her down when she's still happy being awake or over tired! And as for putting her down to play - she doesn't last long on her own plus I feel guilty that I'm not entertaining her and talking to her.
No one comes to visit me and I can't visit anyone cos she hates being in the car! So I feel trapped at home. And at the moment I don't want to even go for our daily walk cos it's ridiculously hot outside - so I really am stuck at home. I don't have any routine at all and I don't know what kinds of activities I can do with her.
What do you do with your babies when they are awake? I feel like I should be talking to her more than I do. I swear she doesn't smile as much as she used to. I think maybe she's picking up on the fact that I'm not happy. :( But I have no idea what to do! I love her to bits and I want her. But I don't want to be with her on my own ALL THE TIME! I want to be able to get out and do things. But when I take her to the shops any time I stop to look at anything she starts crying. I feel like I can't go out for a coffee, shop, library, anything. Just long walks. And at home I try and do some exercise with her, read to her a bit, give her a rattle to play with, do a little tummy time, put her in her rocker sometimes when she's happy to be there, walk around with her, and yet there are still so many hours to fill and I'm out of ideas on what to fill them with.
It's funny though cos I do think about having more kids.. so obviously it's not all bad. But I think it'll be when Maya's a lot older!
I think I'm just not a 'natural' mum. :( Which is what I thought I'd be. And I feel guilty and sad that I'm not enjoying it like I thought I would and that I just feel at a loss nearly all the time as to whether she's tired, hungry, etc and what to do with her when awake?! And I am bored and tired of having to entertain her, feed her, everything for her all the time, when all I want is time to myself - which just makes me feel even less like a good mother and more guilty. :( I think I really need some time to myself though!
hmmm.. prob can tell.. I'm feeling extra down today. :( But have been feeling this way for a while now. It seems to be getting worse though. :(

well Jack seems to be pooing every 2nd day now..although i thought before he was constipated AGAIN..so used a suppositry and turned my back for afew seconds...and there was a mountain of poo everywhere!!!! on his legs feet, up his back...charming...and it was mr whippy consistancy (sorry girls TMI!!) sooo definatly NOT constipated :D
Tanya hun you are a good mum...just takes abit of getting used to...I have relaxed alot more which in turn has relaxed Jack alot :) I have only just figured out his little things.."when he is tired (signs etc) daddy has burping him down pat (when he is home) It takes time hun..you'll get there.
Itsme - i dont have alot of time his arvo :rolleyes: BUT I wanted to let you know what you feel is perfectly normal. I still feel some it even with my third. I really miss "me" time - i don't mean packing up and leaving home for the day - I mean 30 mins, just me and a book with no distractions - the mental drain of being "switched on" all the time is enormous - that's why I too love going to work - I get to think about me, me, me - can go to the toilet by myself, drink a coffee whilst it's hot and say the bad word for poo if I want :lol:
Zander is a bit easier to entertain as such cos I have the other two - just talk, even if you are cooking, doing dishes etc - and reserve some special floor playtime when she has your undivided attention and it is FUN. That way, she knows she gets time with you, but sometimes has to watch you as well.
I feel a bit opposite than you sometimes in that I feel guilty I don't do enough play or as much as i did with the other kids cos I have the others to feed, clothe, brush teeth, tell off (:)), get out of the house - drag around to and from school - I think how boring it must seem for him!
She is now at the age where she will enjoy sitting on your knee singing silly songs - Zander loves (now this will sound very silly :redface:) - I say tick tock goes the clock, and I have hold of his waist in a seated position on my legs and move him from side to side - he cracks up every time .... yes we are weird :ROFL: Twinkle twinkle - they will love the finger movement - Z is just starting to twinkle his own fingers, roly poly and movng their arms round & round - that type of thing.
I have to go, get some dinner organised - DH away still until tomorrow night - i am sure some of the other girls will give you some of their treasure bits too.
Tanya - i am with sami. As i have another.. i often let the 2 play together. E thinks A is just fab lol!!
Otherwise when we get 1 on 1 time, we will play tickles or peek a boo and he loves to be sung to and it doesnt matter what i sing! lol
More than anything he just loved eye contact.
But i hear you on feeling isolated. I am having issues now that with 2 it is even harder. Since we moved to brisbane in march last year, fitting into a mothers group is hard. all my friends are single and my family arent close to me here. I keep trying to meet new people though. :)
Well Expressing no... i didnt before this mornings feed. He did a huge poo at 2am, and then took a few hours to settle so i threw him on at 4am.. he did fine.
Did have a spew today though, but i fed him laying down.. so there you go.
I almost just went screw this and got the formula out, then my conscious got the better of me and i kept with the boob :(
